"Batman. So I thought, who is the potassium bad? Quite a little fast and loose with the words interestingly enough. Yeah. Yeah, not to mention the word famous. So I Googled this. You gotta Google it. And there's the Internet. It can confirm any wild theory. They got Kansas City flash. They got all those guys out there. Article in the New York Daily News. It's made the national news ware. The New York Daily News you must shut up. The Batman. Please. A guy named Mark Wayne Williams was arrested by police. He was trying to help them out while the rest, of course, as The Dark Knight. Well, he is Mark Wayne. This guy, at the time, 33 years of age, the police said he was just getting in their way. Troopers were securing a large area for the search of a subject leaving the scene of a personal injury crash when mister Williams took it upon himself to search the area in his Batman persona. There's a picture of this guy dressed, of course, has. Batman. Batman. Is the effect? Not particularly. Best movie Batman, all right? Here's your choices. Michael Keaton. Christian Bale or Ben Affleck. It's Christmas. I say Christian beta. Yeah. Maybe performance Keaton's better, but those Batman movies by Christopher Nolan are also so good. Rings around Michael Keaton. Josh. I think I go Keaton, but the bail movies are better. Because remember, Christian Bale gets real. He talks like this. I'm Batman. When patoski Batman said to Batman, what's the difference between me and you? Remember what Christian Bale said? I'm not wearing hockey pants. Oh yeah, that's right. Yeah, when the freak Batman and one of the movies, he jumped on the van. By the way, the first time the potaski Batman ran to follow the law, he was dangling from the side of a building. According to this. Can somebody help me up here? Sends to 6 months probation. He asked, and the judge forbid him to wear his Batman costumes. I'm like wearing it. You really want to wear that in prison, son? Speaking of I am Batman, the video. I don't know if you heard about this, Josh. I don't know where it is now, but it had over a million views just over the weekend of Greg Morton on our show on Friday doing his Jurassic Park tribute that has a reference to Batman in it. I want to boil it for you. Check that out. I believe they had a million hits on was it on TikTok. Anyway, we're coming right back. We've got snorkeling in the news and an exciting scary way. I'd like to go snorkeling. And the history of a penis sizes in famous paintings. Oh, finally, it's fascinating. Over several hundred years. The depiction of the male member. Benefactor’s Family Demands Refund From U. Richmond for Removing Name

"So back to the university of Richmond. So the family had a choice here because typically nobody does anything. As a matter of fact, they normally just hide in the shadows. And they accept whatever's coming at them. But the good news here is that the Williams family has decided to fight back. Big time. This story from the college fix. That a sentence of mister TC Williams an early benefactor of the school, and by the way, the Williams family has given just boatloads of money. They are now demanding the university, pay back every single penny. But it doesn't stop there. They're also demanding 6% compounded interest over a 132 years. When you do the math on that, we're talking more than $51 million, the family of mister Williams is demanding. And by the way, that doesn't include all of the other gifts the family made to the university over the years. Rob Smith is mister Williams great, great grandson. He says, quote, moreover, it is not a form of fraud to induce money from a benefactor and then discredit the benefactor after he has long dead. Surely, the Williams family would not have given a penny to the university, knowing the university would later dishonor the family. The ethical and virtuous decision is clear. Return the money. You know, it seems to me they have to write fruit of the poison tree. I mean, how could the university of Richmond and good in good conscience actually have a law school that was built using money from someone they believed to be a slaveholder, even though the guy never raped, never had slaves.

"Com forward slash greatness village and you can find it there. We have our own. We have our own tab in the village, philosophical Friday, coming there and at all the questions you want. And remember there are no stupid questions. You can find me on Twitter and Peter Birmingham at Peter Birmingham where the far at the end of it. On Twitter, post questions at me there, tag me, tag me in a question if you will. And then we have token who can be found. Yeah, ask them after on Twitter. And also if you want to instead of listen, you want to watch this podcast, see us get animated and excited about stuff. Why Alex? We do. I use a lot of hand gestures and stuff like that. I definitely have more of a face for radio, but you know, I got animated physically, so there you go. We should, absolutely. So why Alex beats Bobby? We post the video there every Friday. And again, make sure you also vote for the best question because we're going to be declaring a winner every week. And this week, the winner is the spiel. I absolutely love that question from Marie konicov as book. And incidentally, I believe Eric Seidel because he follow up with that, he said that observing any kind of lucky anything will distort one's thinking. And she agrees. Yeah, I mean, I don't know if it's going to be distorted, but I would say that it matters. Like actions matter. Yeah. Absolutely. Absolutely. And so for the big reveal from our question from the start of the show in case anyone had forgotten, which online poker player and streamer said that when they're on a downswing, they shave all their facial hair because they believe it gives them a fresh start and a chance to get back to win in ways. So that is the great Jeremiah Williams, mister Williams being a very logical and sound player, never gets rattled at the tables. You watch him on stream. There are bad beats all over the place. Never but still believes on a downstream, he must shave his facial hair so well done, Jeremiah, thank you for thank you for providing providing that one to us and shout out good luck with your good look at your challenge. Absolutely and shout out to Jeremiah and I think with that, we believe everybody talked to them to next week, Peter. Thank you for another excellent podcast. Thank you very much, Duncan. "It may take a week or two, though. Don't worry, I'll try. This time of morning, it's a kind of rule. Not too much fun in laughter. Rather like church. So see I see what you mean. I mean, watching that watching that scene, I feel like I'm watching myself, you know, mister wakelin, you know, someone who's eager and ready to start the day, wanting to engage with this new colleagues, and then slams into a culture that he has to get used to this sort of sets up when we see your character, mister Williams, get on the train. And to talk more about sort of this repressed demeanor, this englishness that we get from mister Williams, I mean, is he an avatar of this gloomy post war Britain? Or am I reading too much into putting too much import on mister Williams character? No, I think if you spoke to mister ishiguro, he would probably agree with that. But from the point of view of my acting it, that doesn't really come into my plans, but I mean, if I were in retrospect, this didn't inform the way I acted it or anything, but one of the things I held onto was the fact that he was institutionalized in grief. So apart from the general cultural phenomenon of that kind of restraint social restraint, also he lost his wife at a very early age. And therefore, that grief, everything about him, his personality has formed around that loss. And he has, therefore, I mean, but this is all in retrospect. This is nothing to do with great thoughts I had at the time. But, you know, that he has, he does the absolute minimum in terms of engagement with the rest of the world or with the people in it. Because he is fueled by grief and I would imagine a great deal of anger at having lost the woman that he loved. You know, he's so institutionalized in grief and an anger that when he gets his own dire medical diagnosis, that he can't even bring himself to tell his own son. What's happening to him? He can't break free of that restraint. But he does restraint in terms of telling his son, but he does break free when, after getting that diagnosis, he gets out of London and goes to a seaside town where he meets up with a young bohemian who takes him out at night from music venues and bars and showing him around town. And to me, this is the beginning of a transformation for mister Williams. And so it got me to wondering, Bill, is this movie about legacy or living as the title of the movie is? Or both? Well, if I had to choose, I'd say the latter, I'd say it's about living rather than legacy. I think it's about trying to having been having worked in an institution that was dedicated solely to. Preventing things from happening. In other words, institutionalized procrastination. Given this diagnosis, he decides to actually make something happen. But that's not, I don't think, because he needs to leave a legacy of any kind. It's simply that he wants to, he wants to live, and he wants to have some meaning from the time he has left. The thing about not telling his son, it's just, you know, part of the requirement of that kind of englishness was that you didn't trouble anybody with your concerns. And in the extremity, you would even apologize for dying. Well, certainly for being ill. And it's like he'd heard about this thing called a good time. He'd never had a good time. And it's amuses me because I'm from England, that he goes to Brighton to find it. Because that's a very period thing. People used to go to Brighton for good time. I mean, people still go to Brighton for a good time. And then he sees this guy who looks like you might have had a good time now and again. And then offers him all this money to help him share a good time. I found it very touching and very moving. I want to add, let me push back on you on the idea of legacy. And I use that word in giving you the choice legacy or living because towards the end of the movie and we see mister Williams break out of procrastination, get something done. And then we spend the last part of the movie watching how each of his colleagues share with each other, things they saw, mister Williams do that impacted them in such a way that they're like, hey, from now on, we're going to endeavor to be better. And then they backslide. So I'm wondering he left a legacy, but this, the cramped nature of society, this institutionalized, well, he's got institutionalized grief, but it's the atmosphere of doing the bare minimum is so pervasive that it snuffs out whatever legacy mister Williams leaves behind. Or am I reading too much into that part of my analysis of the movie? No, I think you're absolutely correct, but I do think that the, you know, and the thing is that the messages I get from people who've seen the movie, they all, they are all pretty much the same feeling, which is they hit the street afterwards feeling inspired, feeling galvanized to do. Whether or not like in the movie, that feeling will persist. We don't know. It's like, it's like new year's resolutions. How far did you get January 10th? You know, it's that thing. But hopefully, you know, hopefully it will inspire people. And now I've forgotten the rest of your question. That's okay. You answered, you answered my question, because I am also one of those people after watching, I was inspired, and then you know, lethargy will just take over. So Bill, I'm just, is a role like mister Williams, quiet, intimate, restrain harder to play for you than the big performances you've given us in love actually or Pirates of the Caribbean. I don't think no, it's not harder. I think, you know, I think they're pretty much in terms of difficulty in terms of what you're suggesting. I think they're pretty much the same.

We've thrown all the responsive records on a dashboard, easily accessible to most anybody. Beyond transparency, the hope is that drawing together these records could also act as a deterrent for future police misconduct. It may, in some sense, create a deterrence for officers to be less likely to do unlock the rest or search to seizures. Now, I don't know if that will happen, but it is something I would hope to see. "The good folks at northwestern hospital, Lake Forrest. Hold on a second. Let me turn this piece of paper. I got some questions for you, doctor. Welcome back to the show. How are you? I'm good. Chen, did I hear that, right? You're the world record holder in cornhole? Yes. Is that what you just said? That is what I said. That is a distinction, sir. I'm impressed. You have to be careful to ask the question you can tell you're a doctor, not a lawyer. You said, did I hear you correctly? And did you say that? The answer to both of those questions, your honor, is yes. You did hear me. Mister Williams has never questioned. Do you know that? Well, you're sure is, what's the most important thing lately? We should be knowing about boosters. Everybody is talking about boosters again, Doc. Well, we're going to get an approval it looks like from FDA. And a new version of the vaccine, the one we've been talking about that will continue to have a component that is similar actually exactly the same, but what the original vaccine that we've all gotten is our primary series and then the boosters. And then they're adding another component against this B 5 of omicron that we're dealing with and also before. So those vaccines have been in production already by both Moderna and Pfizer, the FDA should be coming out with a statement within the next several weeks that hopefully we'll say that we believe that this is safe and of an effective vaccine. And then we'll find out what the schedule will be, who can get it in when because the production is going to continue through the fall and early winter. So whether they'll be a phased rollout or people can just make appointments and going to get it when they want, we don't know. But that's what we have to look forward to now, John. Should the teachers and students be wearing masks in the schools? I personally believe it's okay not to. I know there would be some teachers who probably are going to want to. I think that what we now know about children and COVID, even when they get that, given when they get at the vast vast majority of kids, the overwhelming number are going to do just fine. I think the educational and developmental issues that have risen because of the use of masks in schools, I think we're past that. And I think where we are right now, it's okay to go forward without masks. Kevin most, your colleague, told bob surratt this week that he wants the mass off in the hospital for staff, for some of the same reasons the teachers might benefit for having them off, better communication leads to better care or better instruction. Do you think we should not have to wear masks in hospitals? I think healthcare facilities we're going to continue to see masks for the foreseeable future. Let's not forget there's still a lot of virus around in the community and our healthcare facilities, particularly our hospitals, we take care of a lot of people who are immunosuppressed who have other disease states where we really don't want them to get COVID, we don't want our healthcare providers to get COVID. There's a lot of COVID still in the hospitals as they said. So I think for the foreseeable future, we're going to continue to see a requirement that everybody in healthcare facilities wear a mask. And I will talk to doctor most about this when I talk to him next. I didn't hear what he said, but I'd be very, very interested in getting his perspective in this subject. You know, it's funny what he said and what he meant. Can be different things. But I definitely heard his frustration. And bob surratt's going to talk to Doctor Fauci on Thursday. Before we even knew the Fauci was in fact going to retire from public service and bob asks Kevin, what would you like me to ask him? And he said, ask him when the master going to come off because our ability to help people as compromised by the mask, you could hear the frustration in Kevin's voice. Yeah, I think many of our colleagues, though, would choose to continue to wear masks. Well, sure, but I don't think, but so maybe like the teachers in the schools, if you feel better about it, wear it, but if you don't want to, you don't have to. Somebody else said this week. That's just another way to imagine one way to go forward, that America would have been better off if instead of taking kids out of school or wearing the masks in the school, we had closed the coffee shops and restaurants, and when we opened them up, made sure everybody wore the masks there. We were so hyper vigilant about the children that in many ways they lost a lot of learning opportunities. I'm talking a lot here, doctor. What are you hearing? Yeah, you know, I think the larger question here, Jim, when we look into the past, how we reacted to the virus at the various stages, the decisions that were made and why I so strongly hope that we see a proper accounting of the decisions, the method whereby our public officials made the decisions that they made, what worked, what didn't work, how perhaps we could have done this better. This is really, really important that we do this. I'm fearful that we might not. I'm fearful that we might not for political reasons due to this correctly. Let's all think back to after 9 11, the 9 11 commission, its findings in its report was incredibly important to America and the world, we've done very well since the horror of 9 11 being able to avoid another attack like that. And a lot of that is because of what came out of the 9 11 commission, it's analysis of what occurred, but we should have done better. It's report recommendations and how Congress then took those recommendations. I personally hold Jen that we see a similar effort occur about this pandemic. We need to learn from this and we need to be prepared should it occur again. Some of your questions for doctor Jeffrey copen include, I got the first booster. Should I get my second or wait for the new shot? And for that matter, can you get the new vaccine without getting the second booster? Skip that one because everybody's jazzed about number three. And finally, a new study suggests COVID increases the risk of brain disorders. Doctor, what do you know about those couple of questions that a couple of our listeners texted in a minute ago can I do I have to get booster two in order to get number three or can I skip number two? Yeah, so the key thing is what CDC is calling the initial series, which is the first two of the mRNA vaccine Moderna or Pfizer. So if somebody's had those first two, then they have a choice. They can go ahead and get another booster now if they qualify or if they decide now it's already the middle of August. There's a good chance we'll see the Pfizer vaccine as early as the middle of September. Moderna by October, if somebody were to say, you know what, I'm going to wait until that. That's okay. There's no reason they'll not get the booster that's available now and then wait a little bit. October into November even December and then get the new one at that time. That would work too. So you have a nice choice, but the key thing, Jen and our listeners really need to understand this. It's having the first two the initial series, having the first booster that was available, which is number three. Many people qualify for number four. You can decide to get that or you could wait if you haven't gotten it yet and get the new one that's coming out. "Survive is by backing organizations that are dedicated to those purposes. Good call with. Thank you. John from a Burlington Vermont good evening. Mister Williams. You have made reference to the Second Amendment, obviously, as part of your topic here tonight. I was wondering if you are an originalist or do you believe in the living interpretation of the constitution? I'm an originalist. I'm a constitutionalist. It is not a living document. It can't be reworked like the notes I wrote for this program. No, it is there. And it says what it says. Okay. So in other words, if you are an originalist, the Second Amendment says that you have the right to bear arms and the interpretation of arms at the time that the constitution was written was a muzzle loaded rifle that could fire about two shots per minute from an expert. And I would totally support that Second Amendment. So the Second Amendment doesn't age, but the First Amendment does, the Fourth Amendment does, the First Amendment now covers blogs and the Internet and TV and radio, the Fourth Amendment guarantees its privacy of those, but the Second Amendment does not modernize like the other amendments. Is that what you're trying to say? No, I think that's what you're trying to say. I believe in a living constitution that it should be adopted as well, I don't think that the living constitution concept usually goes far beyond what we're talking about here. Arms, I think, adequately covers both the muzzleloader and an AR-15. Lee. Yeah, I totally agree. All right. More to come, we'll be back in

"Doc and Wilmington Delaware, hello. Couple of terms of definition, where I was something else in my life as a young man of 19 in 1973. I was 11, bravo. And I used to say what dark means is that he was an infantryman in the army. Okay, go ahead. Most people don't know what 11 bravo means, docs will go ahead. Yes, sir. That was a long time ago and I don't brag about it. It's just something I had to do. I felt like doing the time so I did it. I wasn't any major thing, but that's what I did. And I would like us to define these web as a semi automatic weapons that they're aromatic. They're similar like what I've done assault weapons. Now then, having said that, mister Williams, what do you think our chances as target shooters, hunters of feral halls, which I have done in Tennessee and South Carolina? And shooters are having an assault weapons ban overturned in the Senate. And if he gets it, passed in the sentiment mister Williams will the Supreme Court over alternative eventually what are your thoughts on that, sir? Thank you for the question, Doc. It's a good question. We get it a lot. I don't think this will pass the Senate. I don't think the numbers are there. I don't think it will pass the House. But we always we always plan as if it's going to, I think Bruin is also out there in Bruin since these weapons are in town and usage. There are millions of ARs. I'm not too exercised on that right now. I do not think we're going to lose what I like to call our MSRs, our modern sporting rifles through a ban. I mean, Joe, you know, Joe, I've known him for years. I was reporter and Wilmington Delaware when he was a senator. He likes to spout off at the mouth. I don't think he's even coming up with these ideas of what he's saying. I think whoever feeds the teleprompter is running running this crap buy in. But we're prepared, Danny, our Doc, I'm sorry. We're preparing in case in case God forbid it gets that far. All right, Doug, thank you, sir. Rich from the San Francisco Bay Area, hello. Hello, your guest, you know, he's full of beans this guy. He's probably a really could you be a little more specific rich actually character assassination night was last week, so what is your specific complaint with our guest other than he's quote full of beans? The extremist element in the gun culture are breeding softness on crime because they're so gun oriented that they can't see straight. Oh really? And how much crime is being committed by sportsmen in this country as opposed to the street thugs who are doing most of the shooting in places like say Chicago or San Francisco for that matter. They think rich. The guy's an idiot, he's anti. Well, if that's the best you can do, gosh, rich, you know, usually, usually the people who call in like you don't run out of complaints that quickly, you really need to work on your presentation. You're not too bright, rich. All right, go ahead, Lee. Well, I think rich is the behind enemy lines there in California. No, let's San Francisco no less so. Come to a free state like Florida and we'll show you what freedom is like. Yes. Well, I'm sure he wouldn't know what to do with it. All right, very good. We'll come back and we'll talk some more. Including the prospects for court action the courts, of course. Have quite a say so in what, in fact, does pass for the law of the land and this country, and some gun issues are likely to work their way up the chain to the U.S. Supreme Court. One 8 6 6 5 O Jimbo, whether you agree with our guest or don't, either way, we would prefer that you'd be at least halfway articulate, let's say up to the level of maybe a third grader. "Right? Because all he really wanted to do was get you real angry with them so that when you came to his class, it would be such a stark difference when you got to actually know him, right? It was all of a sudden. But that's how he was. It was all about like, how can I teach you? Because that's really how it goes, right? That's what happened with me and was blond face. He was really teaching us, this is how life is. There are people who antagonize you. But when you get to know them a little better, oftentimes, they're actually okay. They're still lovable and sometimes they even love you. Parents do this, right? Like, yo, you manage your parents because they're doing things that you feel like are unfair. And then you get a little closer. You get a little older and you realize that like, yeah, some of that stuff felt unfair, but nobody loved you like them. Nobody taught you about the world, like they were going to teach you about the world. And on top of all of that, he just had a strange sense of humor. He just honestly was also just a troll, right? He just was the guy who was like, this is all fun and games for him. Because he knew that he was the best teacher in his school. He knew that. It was kind of like, this is all fun and games. And when you get here, you realize it's fine. It's fine. You know, he was a teacher that the first day of class, the first thing you learn, he writes on the board, ethnocentricity. That's his class number one, right? And we go through the definition of ethnocentricity. Imagine that all our school time we're learning about math and science. And then we get to his class, and we learned about what it is to be human. One of the stories that I found in my research was you talking about the fish story from that class. And I can not stop thinking about it. I can not stop thinking about that story. If you can share that, I'd really appreciate it. I think it will impact our listeners in the same way that it's impacted me. Of course. One day we came to class and mister Williams had he had a tropical fish in the bag. And he said, this is going to be the class pet. He had an aquarium set up. He said, this is going to be a class pet, but we're all seniors. And so obviously, as seniors, you're like, we're too old for this, right? But he's like, no, no, no. This is a class pet. Don't worry about it. It's going to be great. I want you all to feed it when you come to class every day. You feed it, I want you all to name it. And this is going to be our class mascot. And so okay, we'll go along with it. And he said, the only rule is nobody can put your hands in the tank. Nobody can touch the fish. No fingers can be on the fish. I know how you all are. No playing around, no jokes, no pranks, do not touch the fish. By any means, no matter what no means should you ever touch this fish. And if you do, this is a non negotiable. If you do, you will be suspended. Okay, mister Williams, that's fine. Nobody wants to touch the fish. A week or two later, some time passes and we come to class and mister Williams walks over to the fish tank and he takes the fish out of the tank, and he puts it on the floor. And everybody jumps up and we gather around and we're mortified. Everyone is mortified and confused, right? We're like, what is he? What is happening right now? And he just sort of watching and waiting. As the fish flops around and if it's gasping for breath, and finally two young ladies run over and they grab that fish, they pick it up and they sort of juggle it back into the tank and the fish survives and we're all like, that was weird and close and what are you doing, mister Williams? And mister Williams, very calmly. He says, young ladies, please get your bags and head on down to the principal's office. You are suspended. And of course they like losing their minds and they're like, are you kidding? What are you saying? What are you doing? And he's like, I know you're upset. I know you're upset, but please, please exit the room. I get it. You're mad, but please do as I ask and go down to the principal's office. And call your parents and you are suspended. And as they're leaving the room, he pokes his head out and he says. But hold your heads up. Because you did the right thing. But sometimes doing the right thing has consequences. There were two things I learned that day. One, I had to sit there for the rest of the day in my cowardice. I had to stew in my cowardice that I didn't have the chutzpah to get up and save that fish, though everything in me was telling me to. And two, I learned that it is always women. Really? It is always women who save the fish. And in our everyday lives, I mean, historically, right? We can run through every social movement. We can run through. We can run through what's happening right now in today's time, right? It's always women who make the sacrifice. Even if they don't get the credit for it, even if we have male figureheads who get gunned down, we know that, right? But there are women who are behind those people turning those wheels. There are women who are part of the planning committees. There are women who are laying their bodies down who are sacrificing time with their children. There are women. They are always women who save the fish. And I'll never, ever forget

"And miss bluff was mean. Right? Like, I didn't like miss blouse because miss bluff was the first teacher and at least in high school that was willing to hold us accountable. And when you're 13 years old, the one thing you don't want is to be held accountable and the one thing that you want more than anything is to be held accountable. This is sort of the tricky part about being an early teenager. Emma's bluff was that kind of person. She wanted to make sure she set the standard and the tone of what this class was going to be. And to do that, she just wasn't willing to deal with them in the nonsense. But all we wanted to do was exude nonsense. So the first day of class, I come home and I'm like, man, you got to get me out of there. You got to free me from miss blouse. I have got to get out of there because I already knew. She was going to be tough on all of us. My mother in her infinite wisdom was like, Jason, it's the first day of class. It is impossible for you to know what this is going to be. And of course, I'm a precocious kid and I'm like, you taught me to trust my gut. My gut is telling me miss bluff is ain't the one, you know? And it turned out that miss bluffers was one of the greatest gifts I would ever have as a teacher because she was the first person to acknowledge my ability. She was the one the first person outside of my mother to ever say to me, you can write. And I wasn't doing that well in her class. That's the thing about it. That's what I always and miss blouse is my friend. Miss bluff has lived down the street for me. We talk a periodically and it's always good to see here. But that's the one thing about her that I'll always respect is that miss blouse is, I wasn't doing that well in her class, but she was able to give me constructive criticism and to acknowledge my abilities, even if she couldn't give me an a, right? It was like, look, you won't follow directions or you didn't do the assignment, but I can acknowledge the fact that your technical ability, there's something happening, right? There's something there. And your creativity, there's something happening. As a matter of fact, she even started a creative writing class. And she took 8 students, hand picked, and that was when I started to learn form, and all the variations of poetry, I started to read things that had never read before, things that I didn't think interest me. She even told my mom, hey, if he goes to college, try to find a school with a good writing program. Like, he's got the thing. I will always be grateful for her. And if all of you listening, if you read the Spider-Man book, if you read miles Morales, she is in the book, she is the teacher in that book. And you use her name. I use her name. I use her name because I wanted to play homage to a woman that without her. I don't know if this would have happened. 'cause you just need one person to believe. One person outside of your family, right? To believe that there is a there there. Absolutely. Yeah, I had a teacher like that in college, changed my life. First person that ever made me feel like I was smart. It'll do it, right? You only need one. Well, the other teacher I want to talk with you about is mister Williams, who you described in the following way. He was skinny, stark white. He had a bowl haircut. He wore khakis, a pair of Jordans or high top Nikes. He had a shirt tucked in and he wore weird wool ties with a blunt bottom. You stated that everybody hated him. But he did that intentionally. Why did he do that intentionally? Mister Williams, one of the most peculiar geniuses I've ever known. He did that because he wanted to sort of set you up. He wanted to teach like, what happens when you sort of have preconceived notions and expectations about people and you meet them and realize that you never really know a person until you do, right? And so he would do things that if you were a freshman sophomore junior, every time he saw you, he would pick on you. He was sort of poke at you. He would give you the tensions, right? Mind you, this is a person who I look back now and I realized that he was always aware that none of this actually matters. Me giving you detentions is not going to affect your life, right? It's interesting, right? Because we always had this idea like, what about my permanent record? What permanent record? No one's ever shown me. Where are these records, right? That our whole lives, we've been terrified of, right? Like, oh no, it's gonna go on your permanent record. Mister Williams was fully aware that none of these detentions meant anything. And so he would do them out. You just throw them out. You go into the tension and you're late. He would make you late. He would do things like, if you had a book, if you were taking books out of your latke, he would run up to you, and he would push the book all the way to the other end of the hallway, so you had to be late. And then he would give you a detention. And we would all be upset. Why did he do that? So that when you finally got into his class, when you were a senior, and you had to take his class for the most part, all of us had to take his class. It was called global studies. You were walking that class angry and upset and annoyed. And then he could just slap you in the face with all this love. It was the biggest bait

"It was a, it was a replacement center where the marines came in to this center, and then they would send them out to the various marine divisions. At that time, we had four divisions who had first second third and fourth. And they would send them out to fill in the vacancy of people who had been wounded or killed, and that was the nations. And third marine division, at that point, was on bougainville. And set us a group of us from New Caledonia to Guadalcanal. And from Guadalcanal we were supposed to go from there to New Caledonia. I mean, to bougainville to fill in the slots of wounded and killed marines there. But before they can get us all organized and shipped out, the marines on Doug and Vale security island, or they declared it secured. And they came to Guadalcanal. They had come from New Zealand to bougainville. Now they come to Guadalcanal, and we join the division there. And that's where I was selected, volunteered, if you will. I was told a long time before that date in the Marine Corps. Don't volunteer for anything. There's bad idea. But I was volunteered for frame floor demolition, specialist group. Which was just forming because we had never seen a flamethrower before. We had hadn't had them. We had a manual with it that's told us how to tear it apart and how to put it back together, but no method of how to use it. What's the procedure? How do you strap the 70 pound thing on your back and do something? So we had no manual that told us that. So we had to work that out. Describe it a little bit to how big, how long, how heavy. Okay. The unit was formed. I was a, I was a browning automatic rifle, individual in a squad. When I was selected to be a flamethrower. Operator. And they selected 6 of us from the company from C company. And assigned a gunnery sergeant to be our immediate supervisor. It was his job to train us about the flamethrower. So there was a form or an information sheet with it that said we would use what we called for a Fox first gel. It was a powder that we mixed with gasoline that turned it into a sticky gel with phosphorus in it. So that if the phosphorus hits something burning, of course, because when we went out at the end of the gun or the flamethrower set it a fire because we had a cylinder out there that lit that let the fuel. And it would be burning and if you tried to brush it off, you just spread it and made it worse. But whatever it hit, it stuck to and burned. And that was the first fuel that they recommended that we used. It's paused right there. Mister Williams, and we'll be right back on veterans chronicles. We're back on veterans chronicles, honored to be joined today by Herschel, woody Williams, Medal of Honor recipient from the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II, of course. And sir, you were just explaining the details of the flamethrower, and you were just explaining to us in the break how it was difficult to manipulate in many ways. Yes. That's true. The first few were using as a, as I said, was called a phosphorus gel that we settle on fire when we expelled it from the God from the tanks..

"The answer is yes. I mean, sometimes questions don't have definitive answers. And I mean, it's fascinating thing of how Benzema would fare at spurs and how Harry came with fair Real Madrid. I admire both of them for so many bloody reasons. I think you have stumped what was that show you used to do stunt the what they stumped the Schwab. You've stumped the swab. I think if Schwab or whatever it was, I am completely enough to leave Scott. That was a say, you deliver that question. So incredibly you Fritz doll breed with your poetic framing, which was quite brilliant mate. I loved it all. And then you delivered the coup de grace with a question that is utterly mind bending. TFO P is two years in right, because I do not have an answer. I can not make that case. I love the beating society. I was the president of the Liverpool college debating society. But I can't do this house believes Harry Kane's better than Benzema. I can't do this house believes venom is bent. And there are a lot of people who are like, well, prince of us. One thing's and that always in football, the winning things, as if it's an individual sport tilts it, but my God, they are both remarkable remarkable human beings there. They've done it with tenacity. Against making it hard for me a gate to the odds with everyone with everyone just grinding away from detractors as well as much as they're the opponents you face them. And that's what makes this such an incredible question. God bless you. Stump the schwaz. Last question, you beautiful human being. Come on up. If it is an old clay Stanley, clay, where are you? What's your question? It's actually Williams. No. Staley staley. There you come up with a throwback to me obliterating the poor Williams name. Still feel too. Clay staley. It's CS yes. Mister Williams. And play Stanley will both be deeply offended by me. Go on, what's your question? Where are you? Sorry for my joke delivery. By the way, Williams is in the chat and feels very validated by your anti roger name. And where are you place daily? Well, I'm from Durham, North Carolina, but Colin from a hotel room in Nashville right now. I've got so many just to work trip. So what is your question? Well, I'm a lead supporter, which is why I should preface preface the question by saying I am actually serious about this and I'm not just trying to make you feel bad. But Everton, God forbid does go down. Will we get more coverage of the championship? And I have been absolutely obsessed with the European knights. And I would love nothing more than a very similar breakdown of championship teams that I don't know that much about because I'm not from England. So I would love to know what mill walls deal is. What Preston they're economic story is or who owns them. Maybe I'm the only one who would be into that, but I'm a very niche market, but I think that would be really fascinating. Thank you for coming words. I'm really love the European podcast. It's been an amazing experience to do it. The response has been beautiful, Rory Smith is an absolute king. If you want the Rory Smith S treatment of Luton town Bristol City and peterborough, that I haven't thought about. But David, how do you, I mean, I've got to be candid. I'm already stressed, not just because it's Everton, which is much or much of an stressful. It's also, I already feel that the weekend and already watching possibly 14 games a weekend. Between the Premier League NWSL La Liga and the Americans at the Bundesliga and in Syria, the notion that I now have to add on an extra 90 minutes of non parenting and being Vanessa's partner is pretty bloody stressful to me, David, but do you believe you'll be doing our special championship moment? I think the better question would be, will we still be covering the Premier League next season if ever to go down to the championship? Because that seems to be more likely. I had a side question, which was if Everton does go down, could we attract you to be a lead supporter as a temporary placeholder? I want just, I love you, clay staley, and a pleasure. I can not start trying to that this whole question is a head mentally where I am the if everything is and will we do the championship if everything and then what team will I not support? I'll always be inevitable. Well, I can't even go there. I can't even get I have thought about what happened if everything actually get into leave one and I'll only follow them via the footage grand Twitter account to see what kind of contorted pies are being served at the matches. But I want to hold off. I do want to hold off Everton still live there. We are down. We are down. We are, I mean, we were in the UFC octagon. We are on our back. There is a very large opponent who is doing all kinds of contortions to our limbs, asking us to tap out. But Frank Lampard then tap out. Which I'll listen don't tap out. Tap out. Okay, I've got a lot to process that I've got a lot of think about. I do know, I can't even imagine what my life will be. If Everton, I can't even say the word are worded. I can't even I can't even imagine what will occur in. That woman will process it together. Geo ballot in the chat, a cruel bastard, very much looking forward to Everton's Derby with me at geo ballet. Proper proper bathroom and I love you, can be with us any time on the green room. But let's put, I do. I want to say again, I feel a tiny bit better than I did when I began, which I think is a matter. I spoke to my mates at Oxford pennant this morning. And they have a motto for their business, which is celebrate everything. And I want to say I'm reason a shot of jagermeister, the bolt of human emotion in the shot glass that I need to say very badly tonight. First of all, to miracles to Everton bloody miracles. We are in the miracle department people, but also to that ethos, which I really love, even in terms of darkness, all of us, GFPs, let's celebrate everything, celebrate everything we can. Brilliant rods. Okay, that's that for this Spotify green room. You are back on Friday with an episode of WTF in which your previewer wow, another massive Everton weekend. They're clash against man united. At 646-450-9472 until then, can you give us a final touch roger? I just did, but I will say you can use that same number 646-450-9472. "Jingle real quick? It's like I'm not giving them any love. Are they on your side? Yeah, no. Not on my side. That's why I brought that up. All right. I'm trying to bring that up, yeah. I have a prepared statement. Tell me if you've heard this one before. Okay, ready. To the people at nationwide, you might think you can take advantage of people harmed by your clients. You can try to manipulate the circumstances and hide behind obscurity. I don't work in the insurance industry, but what I do have is a very particular set of skills. Skills I've acquired over a very long career and skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. I smell what you're cooking, mister Williams. Yes. So last week, I called the body shop, and I'm like, can I see a copy of the part? I want to make sure we're using OEM parts. My wife was rear ended. My expectation is, this is a 100% your fault. We're going to put back on it exactly what was on it before you damaged it. Absolutely. No cutting corners. And the body shop initially said, no, there was a quite a few parts on there that were not. So I reached out to the claims adjuster at nationwide, his name is Lee. I'm not going to give you his last name. And Lee said, now we're not doing that. And I went, yeah, you are. And he went, now we're not. And I went, hey, we're a 100% no fault here. This is your client. And then I did something I probably shouldn't have done Jay. I did the other classic movie line. I said, Lee. We can do this the easy way, or we can do this the hard way. Classic. I love it. And you know what, Lee chose? He chose the hard way. Shows the hard way. Oh boy. So 5 minutes later, so I said, all right, man, I'm gonna call my insurance company, and I'm gonna basically ask what can be done here because this is not acceptable. So 5 minutes later, I get an email from this guy Lee and it says good afternoon since you've decided to use your own insurance on this claim. I've stopped payment on the check. We issued you on December 30th, 2021. Three months prior. Please read the check as it is no longer good. I have approved the rental car through tomorrow. You'll need to return it. Then you can start the process again with State Farm. Wow. Because I required OEM factory parts on that repair. Nationwide. Nationwide. You should be ashamed of yourself. So stealing from your stealing from people. So what can you do in these circumstances if you're not at fault and you're having a hard time getting results? Well, this is actually where your own insurance company comes in and this is why you have to have it. Because there is a process, it's called subrogation. I called our insurance guy who I love and I said, hey man, what can you tell me? And he goes, well, first of all, that guy's an asshole..

"Our shipment of tennis balls was delayed and untraceable. Untrackable. So I hopped in my car and drove to Milwaukee. To buy a bunch of regular duty U.S. open tennis balls. Tell me about your most memorable damn this is gonna be a bad situation, but we saved it. Well, I don't know if we saved it. It was one of those things. You know what? There's things you can control and things you can't control. And usually the things you can't control are players, right? If they're injured or winter law, win or lose, you can't control that. And the weather can't control that. So kind of put those in the box and you know you're as a tournament director for an outdoor event, you're going to deal with those things. Now, you know, there's this bridge that goes over top of our facility. You know, over to the left here, right? And it was year one or year two. Truck got stuck up there. And then the car hit a propane truck. And these propane things started to blow up up there. And now that's not on our site, has nothing to do with us. But it's relatively close. So they came in and shut us down because they didn't know what was going to happen with the propane truck on the bridge. And we had to evacuate the Clubhouse, evacuate courts one, two, three, actually, courts one through 12. And get everyone over to stadium and had to stop play. Mid match. Stop plus. Mid match. Had to stop play. And evacuate people. And what a TV do. Do they like? I didn't know what to do. No one knew what to do. And everyone was like, what's going on? We didn't know it. And then someone said, what's going on? And I'll never get mister Williams, Richard Williams. At that time, he was the photographer. He's up there taking photos and taking pictures of everything. And I'm like, this one, yeah, I got to go. So that was the year that you just didn't get like, wow. That's something you can't plan for. That's something you can't do anything about. It just happened. So that was the one that, yeah, that was, wow. You got to deal with, but boy, you didn't see that coming at all..
