"In the fancy world of high-tech everything, some of us tend to be a wee bit on the retro side and we got these super duper carbon fiber kydex slick holsters. And look, they work great. They're impervious to everything. They're fabulous, they're fast, they're thin, all the rest of it and for concealed carry a lot of people go with that. But yet, we're still have the old technology out there. It's called leather. And I love leather stuff. I love rifle slings and belts and holsters and scabbards and all the rest of it. Who better to talk to us about that than rob lathy from simply rugged. Rob, how are you, sir? I'm doing great, Tom. All right, so tell me about simply rugged how it came about. Well, I figured out early on I could conceal a four inch in frame with a good pancake holster. And when I went to order my second one, I found out that Roy baker had passed away. Four to make my own design and simplify it and take care of some things like covering the trigger guard and encompassing the cylinder and that's how I came up with what we call a sourdough and did you had you been making leather stuff before that? Oh yeah, I had mister Crawford and shop class on Fridays, let us do leather work and I was doing scabbards and cheese and stuff like that. Since I was a kid that's cool, which I would rob Leahy from simply rugged. It's simply rugged dot com, right? Yes, sir. So all right, you know there's a whole generation of people who've never had a leather holster. All I've ever had is Cayenne slick, all that good stuff. When you're talking about somebody like that or somebody who and I know they do this, they ask you why leather, why would I want a leather holster? What are you telling them? It's easy on your gun fish. It's quieter to carry. It's much more comfortable to carry pride of ownership, a lot of different things like that. But it has a beauty all of its own and it works so much better in so many ways. Mechanical retention is quiet, you don't get a click when you draw the holster, so there's main reason that with pride of ownership and it's easier on your gun. There's an artisan factor to a really nice leather holster. Even if it's just plain leather, I mean, it requires a certain level of expertise and experience. I remember somebody at milk sparks and you'll love this. I was actually having trouble finding people to work there. They said, oh, yeah. He said, because most of them don't want to hear the fact that for the first three to 6 months, we're going to throw away everything they make. I just laughed. Right? Am I right? Yeah. Yes. Yeah. Yeah, the new guys are always right off. Well, okay, yeah, okay. It's an apprenticeship as much as anything. Yes, it is. Old school style trade and it's really tough to find somebody that's dedicated to, first of all, you're going to do this arcane thing. And you're going to face a lot of rejection at first. But then when you start hitting your stride, I remember that first time I got feedback from a customer, this is the best old I've ever had. Wow, and he paid me money to fantastic. Well, and you made it with your own hands. Yes. Yeah, that is something that I still don't get over. These are handmade. And the other thing is you can do with them. And I love this, is you could do all sorts of leathers and all sorts of tooling and all sorts of decoration where it does really become a work of art. Oh, yeah. Oh, no doubt. Yeah. So what are you working with now? What kind of cool leathers and materials are you working with that you really enjoy? Well, I had a local friend come up to me with a piece of python skin and he had bought his wife with three inch pipes on from gun site pro shop. So I want to make the place on skin whole python revolver. Yeah. And we delivered it to him before Chris, in which we had a New Year's Eve party and our Friends house, Jan Andrew, how'd you like to python rig? We built a boat mammo pouches. She lifted up her jacket and she was wearing it, which is Arizona. That's what people. Said you did such a good job with swap for the python skin. And I started making python holes for friends and then Jason Claus and lip sees and Bobby Tyler and I were doing a podcast impromptu thing. And they're talking, what's new? What we're doing this custom three inch python. And I'm this grinning inside. I'm just waiting to lay it on me. I have no idea. I'm sitting in 40 feet. And massive. So what are you doing, rob? Boy, that kick started to hold another version of her business. That's right, we're making pythons getting holsters for pythons. You'll also make a python skin holster for any other gun. I assume. Of course. Yeah.
