Casemiro sent off again, Man United held 0-0 by Southampton

"Manchester United scoreless streak has reached two games with a nil nil draw with last place Southampton. United avoided a loss despite Casa Miro's second red card in his last three league games. The midfielder was sent off in the 34th minute for a studs up challenge that was initially worthy of a yellow card. Casimir will sit out four straight games. Southampton hit two posts, but couldn't find the net, leaving it three points from clearing relegation. United his third with 50 points, two ahead of Tottenham. I'm Dave ferry.

"Easy, whether it's a professor who has some friends and industry or a company that can look to a specific department, say, hey guys, can you just put in what you think are the essential readings or viewings or whatever it may be and your notes? On the subject, and whether we do, we will be able to know if people work their way through it. Whether that's outwardly to clients, whether it's inwardly when people are onboarding into the company. So yes, totally. And then in a classroom environment, that gets super cool because you can start generating hybrid credentials between courses in school and practicing industry experts. So students become like pre vetted as they enter the workforce in a way that companies want. And that also is kind of like our Trojan horse is not a good word, but away we can get into work with academia despite the fact that at first blush you might think that they'd be scared of us. Why do we love Miro? Well, Miro's visual collaboration platform lets our team work together in real time anywhere. Absolutely. We can organize ideas, visualize plans, create flowcharts, run engaging workshops, you name it. Really, Miro's canvas has a template to get us started on any project. And video meetings are just way more productive when we can show our team ideas on a mirror board. Honestly, working remotely was nightmarish for us, because we felt disconnected, but Miro's online whiteboard gets everyone on the same page. Also, we can use our other favorite tools with Miro. "Yeah, the number of the number of icings last year was watching this date. It really felt like it was just stopping and starting every time and all of a sudden kind of incorporating this free air element for them is huge. It's one thing what kind of one final point on this before we go to break, it's one thing to carry the puck into the zone, what I'm noticing with them is as soon as they do enter though. It's so much like, it's so much about making that next play, right? And a lot of it is that kind of cross seam pass as soon as you enter where the other team is all of a sudden having a sag bag defensively, they're not able to get into a defensive structure and you're able to hit someone and we've seen, I feel like we've seen Miro high, he's going to jump in and be on the receiving end of that and being involved in the rush more times in these three games than any three game sample I can remember from his previous season. So it's really cool to see that and I hope it continues. Matthew, let's take a quick break here and then when we come back in a few minutes, we're going to keep talking about this new look stars team and the start of the season. "At least they have options now of guys who can get the puck into premium real estate and score from there, which is what seismic can they didn't really have that for much of last season. And so now that they have different weapons and different ways they can kind of allocate those resources, I'm not expecting them to suddenly jump up to top 5 or top ten, but I wouldn't expect them to be 27 or 28 in shooting percentage like they were this past season. And even a guy like McCann, I think he had a strong season last year, but he was never really much more of a third liner anywhere else he's been. Those were good teams. He was on Pittsburgh and Florida. No, I'm just talking purely in terms of like his shot. Yeah, he's like one of the few guys who can just consistently beat a goalie that they had. They have different options. Yeah. So now they're top 6 itself just looks like a much more, it looks more like a hockey team. Yeah. And I think that one of the reasons screw power struggled a lot to do with their defense. Yeah, he wasn't in Colorado anymore. Yeah, so that's going to have to be cleaned up quite a bit. I still don't like their golden and I don't like their defensive grip. But therefore, it should be fun to watch. Yeah, they made strides. Yeah. And that's all you can really ask whether you're too. Okay, my final player that I'm excited to watch the season matte Baldi. So we got a sample of him last year. When he got called up to the wild, it's pretty clear that he totally changed Minnesota's look, right? They had that combination of capris of zuccarello and Hartmann riding shotgun with them. And that was one of the best top lines in the league. Kevin fiala was really struggling for those first couple months. And then they called up Baldi in January, I believe. And those two clicked instantly and they had great chemistry and they really fed off each other and they played like there's stylistic strengths really complimented each other. Now, if y'all is not there anymore this season, so I think it's going to take an adjustment and it might be a bit more of an uphill battle for bully to replicate that success. But what I saw from him in terms of playing style had me so excited about this player because it's rare that you see a young player step into the league and immediately have as refined a game as he did in terms of his board battles in terms of how good he was in the four check in terms of how good he was at protecting the puck even though he's still pretty kind of lanky and young and clearly put on more weight and more muscle and more strength as the years go on.

"And yeah, as you mentioned, he's not only a guy that can be a goalie from distance, but he can beat a goalie from distance through to defender. He doesn't have to get around that last man to create a good chance for himself. Okay, so give me your last your last player here that's one of cam's guys. We're going to leave the highway from Vancouver. You take highway 99. All right. Down to the interstate 5, okay? And we're going to talk about Matty veneers. I can see how cracking. So you have a few notes about the crack in here. Their goaltending was a big issue last year. Yeah. It was the biggest issue. But they weren't a great offensive team either. You have them at 20th and scoring. 20 8th in goal is 27 to chewing percentage out. So they've upgraded a little bit based on where they were at last trade deadline. They've added veneers who came up from college, they added all of your experience via trade that Andre Barack. Signing. And like we mentioned with Andre palat and the Devils inspired signing. I think that those are very inspired choices. I think that that makes the crack in a lot more diversified in their attack as well. What I love about veneers is his release is outstanding. He was, he scored 20 goals in the NCAA last year. He was third among junior age players. But just the type of goal that went in, he's not, he's not getting in close and whacking at it. He's beating goalies from clean from distance. His the puck jumps off his stick, so fast. And we saw it in the preseason as well. Over the couple, when he hammers the puck, it's an NHL level shot. Absolutely. Yeah. So yeah, he was doing at the end of the last season. He scored three goals and I think it was 7 or 8 games. And he worked, it worked really well. They were on a power. He was on a power play with Jared McCann. And they were just playing off each other McCann being able to take the shots on the left side and veneers on the right. And they haven't been doing that in the preseason. I think they will eventually go back to it. But veneers is playing with McCann at 5 on 5 in the preseason. They're also both berkowski. And I think bear kosky like palat is one of those guys that can dig for pucks.

"Skin and from the Dallas stars. And Dallas was a very difficult team to watch last season. They have made a coaching change. And I'm hoping I'm hoping beyond hope that they open it up a little bit more. We need to let mural cook. And unironically. Unlike when we say we need to let Ross cook, and then we've seen him cook. Cafeteria meals this season basically. We need to let Miro actually play to his strengths. Now, I think he's been in the league for four years. We've already seen him play at pretty much honora's caliber level. I really thought if I had a battle last year I would have had him maybe fourth or 5th on my list. He was that good. But it feels like for a player who clearly his skating is amongst the best in the league in terms of just how fluid is Friday is how much ground he can cover and how much skill he clearly has and we see flashes of it. He hasn't really been allowed to cook show that beyond like small flashes here or there because that's just not how the stars have played instead. He's almost kind of had to babysit defensively. It's bonkers to me that throughout his career so far he's pretty much exclusively played either with well below average defense partners or even having to play on his on his weak side because he's so good that he can do so and they don't have anyone else. So now it looks like they're actually kind of finally bumping them to the left. It seems like they're going to play them with calling Miller to start the season and actually play them on his natural strong side. And I think there's reason to hope I wouldn't necessarily call peterborough an offensive savant by any means, but compared to Rick bonus, like at least we've seen him in his previous stops. In San Jose and in Vegas, where he had Brent burns Eric Carlson, then Shea theater and Alex petr Angelo, he geared their offense and funneled it through them and allowed them to kind of dictate what they were going to do, be involved, activate whenever they wanted to. And so I am so hopeful that that's what's going to happen here with ice Canada. We've been burned for long enough now, but I think this is the year where we finally just see the full potential of what he's capable of. So this could be a larger thing about what we need to. What we need out of the Dallas stars just as, remember,

"And we helped you do both things. And yeah, those two mistakes in the playoffs were looking at the turnover against Washington that led to an afghani kuznetsov breakaway goal. There was no panther within 40 feet of him when he gave up the puck there. And then there was another turnover that led to a blown coverage that led to Ross Colton scoring with under a second ago in game two against Tampa Bay. And same sort of thing when he had the puck at the blue line. He's on the far right side. And he's looking at no one close to him. And all of a sudden, all of a sudden you move it. Yeah. Come back the other way. And now you have to thank your tire, you're at the end of the shift. I got to protect. It's harder to do. So having that support is key for a guy like you. They're going to be able to insulate them kind of cover up all of his weaknesses and really just focus on his strengths and I think he's going to be awesome and Calgary. Okay, I'll do one more here before we before we take a quick break. Jack Hughes. And this one's a cheating a bit because this is your second first overall pick. Wow, yeah. I mean, those guys tend to be pretty good. You could argue he already broke out last season. He already sort of realized some of that potential we are waiting to see from him early in his career and answered a lot of the questions people might have still had. But that's why we're not doing breakouts anymore because we're just doing most exciting players and I as excited as people might be about him already. I think collectively we haven't caught onto it enough, but I don't think we've been talking nearly enough about how good he was last year when he was fully healthy. And that's because he got hurt in the second game of the season or whatever. And then he missed a bunch of time. He came back, he clearly wasn't fully himself yet. Then there was a Christmas break, then he had 35 games, which are about as good as anyone on this planet played in that time. And then he got hurt again near the end of the regular season. And so this amazing stretch of games he played was kind of sandwiched by injuries. And he was playing on a devil's team that once again had a lost season and didn't live up to expectations and wound up getting a high pick. And so I think it's getting overshadowed a little bit. But what I'm going to say is in those 35 games that I watched, he was playing at such a high level. He had 21 goals, 27 assists, but that almost doesn't even do justice to how in command of the game he was and how we saw him answer all of those questions, right? Like when he came out, it was, okay, well, you know, his physique, he's not going to be strong enough to play against grown man.

"Okay, well I like that. That's a great first pick out of the gate. I'm going to stick with the kind of theme of young tools Y defensemen that we're really excited about here. And I'm going to go with a one power. And now I know that we only have kind of a brief 8 game cameo of his from last season to really kind of dive into or sync our teeth into from like a tape perspective, what he's capable of. And especially at the end of a season where you're not playing for the playoffs, you're kind of playing out the string of your season, even though the Sabres were competing really hard. It's tough to know how much of that we should really even care about, right? In the case of what I saw from Owen power, though, just the instincts that he has in the habits in terms of the way he plays, I think he is the future of what we want this game to look like. Now, he's a physical freak. He's 6 6. He can move very fluidly. Like I'm not expecting every player to look like that. Moving forward, but just in terms of the way he plays, I think so often I'm sure you've heard this term like the positionless hockey, right? Where it's like, oh, we just want to see 5 forwards out there. Everyone can play the same position. And I think that's certainly a bit extreme for right now. But I think that's fine. I think instead we should be more focused on positional interchangeability, which is you have 5 guys out there. You can still have three fours and two defencemen. But it doesn't necessarily mean that when you're in the offensive zone, the two defensemen have to be stuck on the point near the blue line, and then the forwards are down low. It's okay to mix and match. We see the abs do this all the time. We're kill McCarthy takes the puck and he's skating it behind the net. And that's easily allowed to do that because McKinnon cycles back up to the point and basically kind of plays near the blue line and he loves to shoot from there as well.

"The hockey PDO cast. My name is Dimitri filipovic and not only is this the first episode of the 2022 2023 season for the hockey PDO cast, it's also the first episode that'll be streaming live on the sportsnet radio network. And joining me today for this exciting premiere edition of the PDO cast is my good pal cam Sharon cam. What's going on man? We're having a great day today. For those listening live, ty France just hit a RBI double. Mariners up 6 two. This is a hockey show I know, but we said we're gonna limit the Mariners talk on this episode of the PDO cast. It's been a long time. I've been off for three months here, so I'm really itching to get back and talk about it and obviously the NHL regular season is officially starting tonight. We had a couple of games in Europe over the weekend. I'm gonna be honest with you, Dimitri, I did not watch a second of those games. And I think that's totally fine. I think you're well within your rights to do so. So let's tear this thing up for our listeners because we've got a lot of material to pack into today's episode. What we're going to do is we're going to list a number of players that we are excited to watch this season. It's not necessarily your traditional kind of breakouts. Piece that people typically do because I feel like then we get really beholden to the textbook definition of, oh, has this guy already broken out? Is he even qualified for this? Instead, it can be wide ranging. It can be veterans, it could be young players, it could be players who have already had good seasons in NHL. Just a list of names of guys that we're excited. We're going to talk about why we're excited about them. And we're just going to see where that takes us and how many names we can rattle through. So I'll give you the floor here as our first guest. Give me the first name on your list and the first player that you're really excited to watch this coming season. On the PDO cast is here, we're probably going to talk a lot about our ducks. Yes. And one of the reasons for this is I love their defense and particularly Jamie drysdale.

I know it's such an outdated idea but So people these days just go online and book things themselves but it looks like travel agents still exist especially to help people plan more trips and excursions as well as for luxury hotel bookings where agents still earn a commission and have access to the perks that a normal traveler doesn't get so. I'm wondering if you can let me know how i break into this market. Do i need to get certified and do you know what the earning potentials are looking forward to hear your thoughts on this by. I remember the same thing with my parents I grew up into families that were on opposite sides of the country Sometimes one family was out of the country. So i did a lot of flying back and forth for summers and holidays and such and at least a few times i remember going with my mom or my dad to the travel agency to book my tickets or even even to learn about options which i know a lot of our listeners are like oh my god i can't imagine a world like that and i can't imagine a world like that either. You know the internet is so much better But travel agents as susan said in susan. Thank you for the question. They do remain helpful for exactly what she mentioned. luxury trips. Specialized tours upscale hotel stays less over basic airfare since that's not usually commission -able anymore so traditional travel agents have largely gone out of business or at least they've had to evolve in some way because they don't get paid very well by the airlines airlines kind of figured out. We don't have to pay them so much. But there are other options as mentioned so susan asked about certification. It's not actually required as a travel agent. There are several different bodies fit offer certification. It's probably a good step in terms of your social proof to have something so if you look at the travel institute dot com also international travel institute dot com which appear to be two different business slash certification companies. I do think there companies more than organizations which tells you a bit But at least for one of them you can pay four hundred and fifty dollars. Then you become a certified travel associate

We'll hear how graffiti hip hop books and jobs like collecting dead rats have figured into their lives. Join us now on weeknights at eight on 89.3 kpcc. This is one A I'm Sarah McCammon in for Jenn White in Washington. When we talk about who the greatest living athlete is one name comes up time and time again. Serena Williams, The tennis star has won 23 Grand Slams and later on, we'll get into her life and career. But first, let's check in on a court of a different kind. The Supreme Court. This is the final week of the term, and this morning, the justices made a dent in their final 15 cases, including a slam dunk for student athletes. Joining us here in Washington to break down the term is Tiffany right? She's a professor at Howard University Law School and Co directs the school's human and civil rights clinic. She previously served as a clerk for Justice Sonia Sotomayor. Thanks so much for joining us, Professor, right? Thanks for having me So I want to start with the N C. Double a decision. I just alluded to What does it mean? And how did it break down? It is, as you said, a victory for a student athletes. Justice Gorsuch delivered the opinion for a unanimous court. And just to give a little bit of background the issues and enforces rules that restrict compensation for student athletes. In various ways. These rules depress compensation for at least some student athletes below what a competitive market would yield. And so current and former student athletes brought this challenge. Um, and an antitrust lawsuit that challenged the N C. Double A's restrictions on compensation. And specifically, they allege that the rules violate Section one of this Sherman Act. Which prohibits contracts, combinations or conspiracies that result in restraint of trade or commerce. The district court trial court in this case issued an opinion that did two things first. The District court refused to disturb the rules limiting undergraduate athletic scholarships and other compensation related to athletic performance. But at the same time, the court found Unlawful and so enjoying N C double a rules limiting education related benefits that schools might make available to student athletes. The ninth Circuit on appeal, affirmed both of these things in full. The students did not appeal the first part of the District Court's opinion and the ninth Circuit's affirm its related to their athletic related compensation. But the N C double a appealed to the Supreme Court on the education related benefits for student athletes on the court. The unanimous opinions cited with the athletes and affirmed the ninth Circuit. Leaving the injunction on N C double rules limiting education related benefits available to student athletes. The court found that those rules violate federal antitrust laws. Um and justice, Kavanaugh wrote separately, but not to disagree. He concurred in the outcome. But it seems to welcome a challenge to the remaining rules on compensation. Justice, Kavanaugh wrote that this case involves only a narrow subset of the police compensation rules. And he wrote underscore that the remaining comp rules also raise serious questions under federal antitrust law. So unanimous opinion and a victory for student athletes. Yeah, so with I think, unfortunately for athletes and what they were initially seeking in this lawsuit, this was a pretty narrow subset of the rules that they were challenging. So this is a victory, but I think the hope for athletes going forward Well, of course, they will now be able to get education related benefits such as free laptops, for example, post graduate internships but going forward, I think the signals that they have a pretty friendly Supreme Court where at least one justice wants to hear more of these challenges. About all of the compensation rules that the N C double a enforces with respect to compensation for student athletes, So I think this might be just the beginning. So lots of issues. Of course, the Supreme Court's looking at the wrapping up their opinion days this week. What else can we expect to hear from them as the session comes to a close Well, we have two more opinion days, and there are at least two pretty major opinions that have not yet been decided that we will probably get or will get on Wednesday or Friday of this week. There is a Challenge of voting rights challenge involving Section two of the voting rights Act. Um, you may recall that the Supreme Court struck down the preclearance formula of the Voting Rights Act in a case called Shelby County versus Holder in 2000. And this is about Section two, which Provides that a voting process requirement that results in the abridgement of the right to vote on account of race, colour or language minority is unlawful, so the court will decide that case, which is a major case. Within the next couple of days. And then there is also a First Amendment challenge that involves the speech and expression rights of students in schools when their speech occurs outside of the school environment and social media or off school grounds, for example. How much can the schools say about what they say outside of school and whether it can be punished? That's right on the voting rights case. Obviously, this is an issue that has been, you know, there's been a ton of discussion about voting rights since 2020 a lot of state legislatures looking at this issue in various ways. How significant could this one be? This is a major one in the absence of the preclearance formula and the ability for the Department of Justice or courts to sort of have a say on voting rights changes before they go into effect..

The roman reigns stuff with the cousins. I think is. I think it's being a little. What's the word. I'm looking for drawn out and i don't think people are into it as much by the way i want to say a little jam. Gmc see you guys And i think. I think there is some criticism that's valid. I think i at the same time. I think some people are being overly rough in regards to it because it's not as bad as a lot of people make it out to be. I think the problem is twofold when it comes to the roman reigns storyline. When everything around. You is bad and you have something. That remotely shines that glimmers in the like. Wow this is actually tenable with make sense. Good all you latch onto that you like. Don't don't take this away from me this is. Artist Bruce Sulzberg on painting Rafael Nadal

"Welcome to the tennis dot. Com Pot guest. I'm one of your host. Nina Pantic joined in this episode by my co host. Irena Falconi! Hey, guys! How's it going? And we have a very interesting episode of everyone today we are with the owner artists of cells media. Fine Arts Bruce Cells Bruce Welcome thank you, thank you so much for having me. Bruce? Do you have a very interesting story? I don't think a lot of people know it has to do with Ross doll. You don't usually have artists on our show, so that's why this is very unique and special you wanNA. Tell everyone story when it comes to tennis. Even if you're not a player or coach or tournament organizer, so let's start with you know where you are in the world during this quarantine and how your life is going these days, it's been very interesting. Interesting just like I would say probably ninety nine point. Nine percent of the world is trying to figure out what the hell you're. GonNa do during his time. you know the one fortunate part about it as being an artist, I've been locked in the studio painting new paintings and working with different ideas and working with RAF and his team Carlos Costa to figure out new and inventive ways to drive in bill business and do things that we are currently not used to doing. So it's been. It's been a wild interesting two months of figuring that out. What's your interest level tenants? Do you play? How did you get into this? US Fascinating I'm actually one of those weird concoctions of I'm an artist athletes so I was a big time athlete. As a kid played eight years of Baseball's all-star in baseball play basketball. I was all star in basketball. Basketball led me. Tennis I was a basketball player. Freshmen in highschool and kind of got into. An argument with my coach basically just decided to leave basketball. And I picked up a tennis racket and I had just. It was a natural thing for me to do. And before I knew I, had a professional coach, and my coach was played played on the tour and played John McEnroe. He saw me play and before I knew I was training with some of the best players in northern, California. And so I played high school career. played college and I still train. I still training a tribe while afford the pandemic I was out there every week. just started getting back out there about a week ago when they released the courts, but tennis is definitely in. My jeans had so much, so that my son plays college tennis. I'm actually had a scholarship to Chapman University as I used to play and made teams freshman, and he's also coach now, too, so and even though he still in college, but yes, definitely in my blood and strange enough. Raw Molly the owner of art encounter. That is my distributor. It turns out the way that we got this deal with him. Was He was tennis player in his whole family's sex players, and when he saw the original painting that I did have all sprouted in hadn't seen them in years we. She just freaked out. Saying Oh my God. This is unbelievable what I told him. I have five hundred signed by the dog himself. Personally and myself and we did a whole thing back in the day. When we have this painting, he's like. Nope, that's it. We're going to do something, so it's been a very unique tennis story all the way around. I can honestly say I think it's been a while that I've actually heard someone say that. They're both an athlete an artist. When was When was the moment where you're figured out like? Wow, I actually have a knack for this whole painting thing. That was easier. I I was asking rg by the time. I was five six seven years old. My parents had me in special school. Special Art schools and You know it was something that they noticed when I was one years old that I can draw and I'd actually kept first painting I drawing than I ever did when I was one and They just knew my dad was artist. He never followed that trade. Actually went into corporate business, but my dad is very artistic used to do paintings. So I kind of had that gene in me. And I just knew at a very early age. That was what I was going to do my life. We hear so much about young athletes figuring out their skill set at a young young age at like three, four five, and to see that art is very similar as interesting for those who don't know the story Bruce is the owner of Salzburg Media Fine Arts, a broad range of professional sports team three. Of National. International athletes he got three D work of Rafa. Nadal for those are not watching this on video. It's behind him, but it's also going to be a link in our episode information. He's also got artwork of Muhammad. Ali Michael Jordan Prince. Fielder Dirk Nowitzki. Irk Nowitzki I'm not a basketball person. I'm sorry. Most importantly. It's the tennis painting that we're really here to talk about, and it's Three D. art, so I want to start with what is three art. What's the process for making an artwork like this before we get into the Roth story? This was very unique idea. That I came up with lean back in nineteen, ninety five, I was doing my very first art show at the New York our next on back in those days that was the largest art show in the world. Everything was painter of any place anywhere was there exhibiting in was at the Jacob Javits in New York City, so as massive and I back then you the jury to get in so jury to get an shared a booth with another artist, and when I was there, all brought was abstract paintings on canvas, because that's what I was painting at the Time Big Love Klee Miro. Picasso, that was kind of backroom basically, and we've been in the show for five days and insult. Damn painting and I told. My My. Fiance at the time in my mom was there with me. I gotTa Take I. Just need to go walk the show and I said. You know if I'm going to do anything in my life I've got to figure out how to do something that no one has ever done and for some reason and it's time. My Dad owned art gallery. Very very successful one back in San Francisco. East Bay and I just something popped in my head. work on glass. Just a glass on the second I got home I started Phil around layers of plexiglas and low and behold. That's how it was born I. Just we just figured out how to frame it how to do the whole thing in. One, doing where usually as an artist you paying on one level is a canvas most most of the time. You're just doing everything on that level of what I wanted to do with cigarette how to take a look at an image of a painting in break it up and put different parts of each of painting on glass, and then use spicer's to separate them, so there's space in between each layer. You get that natural three d look with no gimmicks, no anything no lighting. It's all based on different layers and different perspectives, so that's how it was born and. The risk on history.

Bad habits and baby voices

"I will. I just got back last night from Kansas House in Kansas. For four days filming a I was hosting a show with zeiler Falkland because no beauty in the bolt checkout. She's great together. We hosted this inventor show called make forty eight and it's about ten groups of people that get together in their forty eight hours to invent something design it make a one minute fill and do a pitch to basically like three sharks and then the best person the winner wins ten thousand dollars and we have a lot of fun it was it was a great experience and I got to meet some really great people I got a? I got to meet a patent trademark lawyer who I'm going to continue to work with shoes. Amazing did little log segment on her. So I'm looking forward to putting up. She's amazing What else also jokingly. I was on a plane yesterday and you talked about. I was waiting to get on the plane in the Waiting Area. A Guy kept side. I I was like okay. I wonder if he knows me so I just ignored it. And he kept side iming and then at one point I got up and talked to my phone and I held my phone to him and the whole back of my phone says dressed on it right after I got off the phone. I was wondering if that was you and I just saw the back of your own. If you don't mind I just WANNA say hello. He's very nice guy. He's dude he was coming Albany to do some electromechanical worker. What he does reliving. So you're talking but I realized I'm trying to be discreet having my name plus on the back of my telephone. It's probably not no. He was asleep. Dude but traveling was Was everybody's worried about me traveling but everything was fine. It all X-ray only so three people with masks through four airports. I mean through four four times at the airport Taylor said to me straight away when she picked up. She's like a lot of people wear masks necessarily so three people. So and there's lots of hand sanitizer around so it didn't seem to be the man the big deal that at least it seems like right now. Who knows where it's going but traveling was great in any event was a lot of fun. And that's going to be on the air they're going to edit what we shot into ten episodes of TV the last two or three of which will be the winners developing their product outside of the show trying to develop their products sell blind so check that out that would be season four of make forty eight so their season one two and three already out there in in last last year this time I was a judge on season three so I was one of the judges this time I was actually host. So where's this going to be like? Where's this available? It's on It's it's got coverage of ninety eight percent of the PBS stations across the United States. A PBS so I think you can go to their website and see. The old episodes previously published seasons this three previous seasons. It's weird that I never heard about this thing. But at workbench on they made a big deal out of it and like You know you guys all the people that were going to be hosting stuff got up and talked about it and stuff and I'd never even heard of it or maybe I just never heard of the name. Yeah well I probably mentioned it last year but it is it. You know. It's it's a little tiny. It's definitely a little marketing effort. That could you know. It's not huge in a big way and it gets paid for underwriters Stanley. Black and decker underwriter. And they're not really when somebody underwrite something. It's really more just like the the greater good of the community. They're not really using it as a huge advertising opportunity but they do have logos and stuff throughout the show but it isn't explicitly in your face so make forty eight is the brandon. We're GONNA be doing an event in Vegas If everything stays scheduled right after make essential so Kristen from I'm sorry. I'm getting confused as so many show events organizing my kristen from workbench. Khan and the make for eighteen teamed up to do this event at the hardware show in Vegas and that's why we pitched we did a little sales pitch at the end of Workbench. Khan and just people if you wanted to come. And it's going to be ten teams of people making stuff and I'm going to be the host again with Zeila but other mentors will be like April and in Izzy and a few other people will be the mentors for those teams so they'll be guiding those voluntary teams to builds stuff at the show. So the alive bill. It's not. It's not the same type of invention show where somebody wins. It's going to be ten. Things get built by ten teams and it gets gets followed throughout the five days or four days and it's really just like a big build off. Live bill buff. People can come in watch every day and see how the teams do. And that's in the then. Those products will be given away as gifts to a good cause. I'll put a link to the make forty eight site which is just make for you. Eight dot com in the In the show notes and it looks like you can watch the episodes of the previous seasons and stuff on the website. So what's to check it out anyway? That was a great experience back now back in action so you. That's I mean. Have you made anything in the past week? Or if you've just been doing that no well this week. I gotTa start another doing another fundraiser. For the Jesse Comes Foundation Jessi. Combs is the the race car driver who died last summer trying to set the land speed record and we were all kind of friendly with. I just started to get to know her. She came and spent some time here at the House with me and Taylor and she wanted to learn about youtube so she she we had met at an event she's like. Hey can I come hang out with you? Learn about Youtube because she was going to transition from TV to youtube so we spent some time together we had a crash course in developing a friendship and then she died unfortunately about two months later in a car accident and so a group of us are getting together with Make for Jesse to raise money for her foundation as the girls donations. So that this week I'm GonNa make a picture frame in Mark Adams. The photographer has a lot of really beautiful. Pictures OF JESSE WILL MIRO EVENTS. So everybody got a picture of big picture printed on like aluminum. It's a really sturdy. Beautiful print very expensive print in each one of us are making a frame. And I'm GonNa do that this week. So and unless we video was arrested of Joe. Press which is amazing amazing old Joe. Press Lovie if you haven't seen not take a look at that Joe Press from eighteen ninety s Cincinnati. Joe Press from made Noel so Yup I. I'm I set aside some time to go. Read the comments on their his on like you were making fun of yourself of what the what the commenters we're going to do. And so many people are imitating your baby voice in the common. Yeah Yeah Yeah. Yeah the baby voice. I did on the JAAKKO documentaries hilarious. I'M GONNA actually get it to video of the baby voice doing it more because people love it. It's like me and Dave Welder. Invented that concept years ago. We only did it one time where we will. I was showing. I was showing people how to use the table. Saw and David was the troll voice from behind the camera. And I haven't done it again. Everybody thinks that something they've seen a few times. We've only did it that one time. And then in the Jaakko documentaries the second time. So now the troll voices the baby boys and people really love it so everyone notices. You know. They'll complain them in the bottle. They'll be like in baby voice so I know that. Just kidding or when somebody really is is some is taking a swipe at me. I Say Okay. Now say that again but stayed in the baby boys. That's all I say because so I gotta give you the link I would be to give you the link to the Jesse thing because it's something we wanNA promote. Okay Yeah but in the show notes You should get your your audience to like win. Somebody is attacking you for them to leave a response to that just says like baby voice and it just will add the tone someone else's comment no doing it doing it already. It's great that's all. It's so funny because I think it's going to become a very prolific thing. They're going to be doing another everyone. Because you know we get sooner. We get a real vicious comments. Or instead of just deleting it I'M GONNA leave it up and just have everybody's they say the baby voice say it say in the baby voice? Say

Let's kick in with new features you want to see of course we start with an all day battery and glass that doesn't break rake rich. What tops your list. Wouldn't that be amazing to get a phone that you don't have to have a case on. I don't think that's going to happen with this one because it sounds like the phones going to be very identical identifical to what we currently have mine number. One feature is a better camera and i think that <hes> the iphone i would say from the iphone ten to ten s. The camera really improved in bright light like i think it really got like pixel followed but when you get angry light that is less than perfect it goes off a cliff and i think that that's my biggest want is a phone that performs in low light and a phone that looks good enroll light and takes pictures and also wide angle. I've gotten so used to testing these phones at the white angolan. I think it lends a lot of creativity to your phone with having that wide angle so the new phone is supposed to have three lenses as opposed to two and that third lands is an extreme wide angle that hopefully won't be as distorted as has the one is on the samsung galaxy and the note that the new the ten editions now one thing. I've seen that i really like is on the one touch. They have a pop-up selfie cam. That's what i would like a really good selfie camera because that's what people are doing. They're doing selfish and food shots on one yeah i mean i think it's at the pop up is really fun on there and i do think that the selfie camera on the one plus is actually better than what the no offers and i think that the the celtics camera on the no is a sore spot and the smell became on the iphone is even a more sore spot so i agree i think that they should do something with a selfie can because the iphone is synonymous with self greece and we need a wider angle selfie cam to fit more friends in there and we also need better better looking celtics again in the low light situations especially which is where lots of people are taking we can selfie at bars that have been set concert and it's been fine but it could be better how flash actually works and makes the picture better and says it makes it worse you know i read my flash off by default at all times. I never use a flash on my camera and it's funny. The only time it ever gets turned on is when i hand my camera to someone at a restaurant take a picture and the first thing to do is turn on the flash and i say no. Don't turn it on. I don't i don't want it. I don't know how to use a flash minds a glare picture that i don't like and so i just turn it off and <hes> i'm just so used to no five made it. That's why i'm gonna pictures at night feel bad. Here's the two other features. I want beyond beyond battery and glass. I'm ready for u._s._b. See <hes> <hes> charging because everything else is. I should be able to charge my iphone into my mac with the same cable. Okay i see i i i mean i like the idea of having u._s._c._c. across everything which i do but i i don't know i don't mind as much as other people with the <hes> the lightning and i feel like lightning stays in better than maybe i felt like that for that reason and then i hate face i d i. I'm ready to say goodbye to it and go back to touch i._d. I don't think they'll do that but i'd certainly like to see it. Eight five eighty is supposedly faster on the new my phone which i'm fine with but again i kind of agree with you. I like the i like the ability of controlling when i unlocked my phone with my finger and not necessarily surly just happened to glance at it and apparently the new phones going to even unlock factor with different angles so now it's like if it's just sitting there could be unlocked. I like the ability to unlock it when when i want to do it if the angles work i'm fine with. It never picks me up half the time. I'm just typing in passcodes all day long so that's why i want to get rid of it. <hes> september tenth new iphone apple cupertino will be back at you telling you all about it rich to miro from k._t._l._a. and the author the book. And this is business wars daily on this Tuesday, June eleventh, the humans are coming that humans are coming. You know, used to be it was news when real customer service reps were replaced by robots. These days, though, it can feel downright innovative when actual human beings have your back, which is just what Bank of America is about to do. It's launching a wealth management product that combines automated portfolios, which already offers with human advice. You know, real people called Miro guided investing the new service aims to attract younger newer clients. The idea of robo investing was to attract new customers by opening up investing to the average person you know, not the one who gets wined and dined by private wealth managers by employing. Artificial intelligence companies could shrink their labor and intern lower both the fees and the required. Minimum balances. Most of the growing group of robo apps offer limited investment choices. Typically low cost exchange traded funds in certain cases, investors can get started with very little money, ten or twenty thousand dollar minimum requ. Wired balances more typical, but there's a problem. Recent research has shown that surprise surprise newer investors aren't totally comfortable making big financial decisions with Roger the robot. They want wisdom from actual human financial planners, enter the growing market of hybrid. Robo human products vanguard, the investment company proved that a digital human mash up is good business. It's personal advisor services grew rapidly and already has one hundred seven billion dollars under management. So too did betterment, a startup robo investor that launched in twenty ten with decidedly hostile attitude, toward human financial planners, and early blog post by founder John Stein was titled financial advisers are bad for your wealth now premium clients can get human advice, and the blog post is gone Bank of America wants in and so do a slew of? Banks and investment firms, many of which recently launched hybrid models of their own one. Notable rival is missing from that mix. However J P Morgan Chase via vase biggest competitor last year. Trying to attract younger customers, the company launched you invest a service that offers free trades and online investing information to any J P Morgan customer that did the trick new clients flooded in and they're younger. Bloomberg reports that an average, you invest client is fifteen years younger than the typical haired, J, P Morgan customer, J, P Morgan plans to offer robo investing later this year. The U.S., China And The Semiconductor Industry

President Trump says he is not quite ready to approve a trade deal with China. Chinese negotiators have been in Washington this week and the president says their work with US negotiators is not done. We've never done a deal like this with China, and it's very unique set of circumstances. But it's a massive deal. It'd be one of the I guess it is if you think about it, but these deal ever made it can't be the electors no matter where you look there can't be a deal like this. This is this is the granddaddy of them all the United States says it wants a more open Chinese economy and more protections from forced technology transfer and technology theft, the US industries that. Want relief include semiconductor manufacturers, they make chips that power phones and computers all over the world. And they've been in Washington seeking help. One of them is Sanjay Miro Tra. And he came by our studios, he is CEO of Micron, which sells a lot to China, but also worries about Chinese competitors. The Idaho based company is involved in a lawsuit against a Chinese firm. What suggests that they might be a real threat to you. You know, barriers to entry within somebody Connector's up pretty high. But of course, that does not mean that you discount any potential competition. China is certainly investing a lot in technologies in related to semiconductors. It's not about worrying about competition. It's you know, making sure that competition please by fail rule. There's a level playing field. I think those are important things. So how is the United States government doing it supporting your industry? One of the important things is making sure that that is. Intellectual property protection trade secret protection. So these are the kind of things that US government, certainly, you know, as part of its negotiations with China. This is one of the topics that us government, certainly is focused on you are also supportive of more money for federal research. Is that correct? What do you need research on? You know, the semiconductor industry has advanced over the years, primarily based on breakthrough research that has occurred here at American universities supported by the government agencies and certainly in strong collaboration within the street as well. And if you look at over the course of last several years, they US investment in advanced, research and development has declined. So it's important that in a backdrop where other nations are investing more that US continues to invest in fundamental research that will maintain the leadership of you. US within the global semiconductor ecosystem. Somebody listening may wonder why it is that the government should be financing research that your company will use to turn a profit with, you know, first of all the companies in the semiconductor industry do fund research up to about twenty percent of their revenue as a whole, but you'd need to drive usage in the foundational technologies that actually fuel the pipeline of future technologies of that research comes from universities. So more work is needed. And this is again important as other nations are stepping up significantly their support of socially search in those countries Sanjay Monroe, trust CEO of Micron and chair of the Semiconductor Industry Association support for NPR and the following message.
