Biden signs historic $1.9 trillion Covid-19 relief law
"Trillion Covert relief bill that's been passed by the House will include $1400 stimulus checks for most Americans extended unemployment benefits and expansion of the child tax credit, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says of the legislation. That's why the most transformative that I have seen in my over 30 years in the Congress. But Republicans are critical of the legislation, saying much of it doesn't go to immediate needs related to the coronavirus. House Minority Whip Steve Scalise 95% of the money in this bill for schools can't even be spent this year, but stimulus checks are expected to go out to those who qualify in the coming weeks. "To convict Donald Trump faced immediate blowback within a Republican party that is still intensely loyal to the former president. And with Trump expected to make his first speech since leaving White, the White House next week, we asked 5 30 eights, Nate Silver, just how much retribution the senators who defied him will face For the time being. There is no doubt that the Republican Party is still the party of Donald Trump. A recent Quinnipiac poll found that 75% of GOP voters still not come to play a prominent role in the party as compared to 21% who don't And some of the Republicans voted to convict Trump on impeachment charges, such as Louisiana's Bill Cassidy and North Carolina's Richard Burr was censured by their state Republican Party's Now look, these seven, Sanders did do something fairly bold other than Mitt Romney's vote on Trump's first impeachment no center had ever voted to convict a president off his own party. At the same time. There's a reason why the Republicans who chose convict Trump elected to do so their personal electoral circumstances made it a little bit safer. North Carolina's Burr and Pennsylvania's Pat Toomey are retiring and so had very little to lose Susan Colleges from Maine estate Trump lost by nine points. That boat connected actually helped her reputation as a moderate. In Alaska. There's a new, nonpartisan blanket primary starting next year, where the top four finishers invest in general election regardless of party, So Lisa Murkowski doesn't need to worry about a Republican primary challenge. Well. Recent polling shows bombings popularity has plummeted among Republicans in Utah. It's improved among Democrats giving him any respectable 50% approval rating. Overall, that just leaves the weekend is Cassidy and the best has been sass, but they're not up for reelection until 2026 Maybe enough time for hooking voters to forgive or forget. So I buy that these centers votes to commit. Trump could make their lives a bit more complicated, but none of them have signed an electoral death warrant. The House Minority whip says school should be open Now the science says they could be in the classroom. Today. The question is, is the will there for some politicians in Washington who are bowing to the teachers unions? Right now, the first priority should be the kids on a bee sees this week, Louisiana Republican Steve Scully says. If more money for schools is included in the proposed relief package money, it should be tied to them reopening, he says there is Maura unused federal money from previous stimulus packages. It should be used before more funding is allocated. Scully says that Washington leaders need to stop bowing down to teachers unions, tired of the same old, same.
House prepares to impeach Trump for inciting the U.S. Capitol riot
"Democrats are moving forward with the plan to impeach President Trump for a second time. President has just nine days left in office, and Democrats say this week they plan to file an impeachment resolution. This follows Trump's incitement of his supporters last Wednesday, hundreds of whom descended on the U. S Capitol. The violent scene left five people dead, including a Capitol police officer and NPR congressional correspondent Kelsey Snell is here with us this morning with the latest take healthy. Good morning. How will this impeachment proceeding work? Well, it will start today when Democrats plan to bring up a resolution that would call on Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th amendment. Democrats will try to pass that unanimously, but Republicans could and probably will block it with just one objection. After that, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is basically giving Pence 24 hours. I kind of ultimatum to decide if he's going to invoke the 25th amendment. If he doesn't she plans to bring the process you know to Ah, hold of bring together the process to hold a vote on impeachment. Which could happen as early as Wednesday. Now on the question of impeachment, it's currently just one article referring to incitement to insurrection. It's based on Trump's address to the crowd before the riots began, and his attempts to overturn the election in 2020 more than 200. Democrats have signed on, and I'm told that they expect some Republicans will support it, too. You know, Democrats are pretty unified and saying what happened? The capital cannot be swept under the rug. Is that Trump can't be allowed to simply leave office without any consequences, And they want to make sure that the Senate has the opportunity to vote to convict so that it can bar trump from holding future federal office. Okay, Kelsey. This actually brings me to the question of Republicans. We heard a few of them say over the last few days, they want Trump out of office. How widespread? Is that feeling within the GOP, you know, some of that is kind of hard to gauge because most of them have been quiet. We know that Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski was the first to say that Trump should resign, but she's been joined by retiring Senator Pat Toomey. He was asked about this yesterday on CNN. I think at this point with just a few days left, it's the best half forward. Now there are a few others that agree. But some others, like Missouri Senator Roy Blunt, who's part of Republican leadership, says he basically wants Trump to be quiet for 10 days and just leave. You know, House Republican leaders have also mostly been silent, except for Liz Cheney, who has often broken with the rest of House Republican leadership when it comes to Trump Okay. This process the house wants to do is is really quick. But there's still the Senate, right? And you know, that is really the wild card here because Republicans will control the Senate until the Georgia elections are certified. And then the Senate has to meet and do some required organizing work. So that means that Mitch McConnell would control the timing and the Senate is out of session. So what would need to happen is they would have to bring them back into session. They would start a trial basically around Inauguration Day. Once an impeachment trial is triggered in the Senate, it stops everything else from happening. It forces senators to come to the Senate floor stick down six days a week until the trial concludes, and that could take weeks. House Minority Whip Jim Clyburn floated a proposal that he says could solve it. Here He is yesterday on CNN President Look Bad 100 days he needs to get his agenda off and running. Maybe we'll send you the articles. Sometimes after that, Ah, 100 Days is a really long time And that could be well after Trump leaves office And you know, Democrats want to proceed for all the reasons I've mentioned before, but this creates a really complicating political moment for Biden as he tries to, you know, move forward and move the country ahead. And this is all happening. I 30 seconds with you as we prepare for Joe Biden's inauguration. What are the concerns about safety? Yeah, they're still concerns the capitals a little bit like a fortress right now, with fences and National Guard troops and there. There's a process of a review right now. But there are serious concerns about whether or not the capital but will be fully safe for the bite. Administration were told that there are really efforts right now trying to Trying to beef up security and take every precaution. Possible.

GOP congressman shares doctored video of disabled activist with Biden

Now the video edits together an interview between Joe Biden and a disabled activist who speaks through computer voice assistance, making it sound as though he'd convinced Joe Biden to defund police departments. Biden has said he does not support the funding police. The activist 80 Barkin, says school East doctor the video and knows the disability community an apology. White House and Congress Remain Far From Any Stimulus Deal
"In the White House and Congress are pushing for a new Corona stimulus deal. By Friday. Senate Minority Whip and Illinois Democrat Dick Durbin says he's hopeful to get the job done. I think it's unlikely that will be resolved today. I hope that by tomorrow something is broken and we haven't moving
First coronavirus diagnosis among member of Congress sends lawmakers into quarantine
"Hill Florida congressman Mario Diaz Balart and Utah congressman Ben McAdams have both confirmed they tested positive for the corona virus and several additional lawmakers have now gone into self quarantine including house minority whip Steve Scalise Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell meanwhile says work is proceeding on what could be a trillion dollar economic relief measure the Senate's going to stay in session until we finish phase three the next bill and send it over to the house house members remain in their districts and they are not expected to return to Washington until senators reach an agreement on the stimulus plan which could include two one thousand dollar checks going out to most
With the U.S. economy in trouble, Congress seeks to put coronavirus relief bill on a faster track

Clyburn calls for shutting Dem primary down, canceling debates after Biden surge
"Got to find out anything else you knows about chaos now is a procedure that chief isn't this top security what should we activate the code of silence they're trying to put the they're gonna put show pride in a cone of silence there's an article in the American thinker about putting Joe Biden in a cone to keep them from getting in trouble house minority whip a majority whip rather Jim Clyburn is suggesting the Democratic National Committee step in and cancel the remaining presidential primaries and debates if it appears Joe Biden is favored to win the nomination freight of what he might do to **** defeat from the jaws of victory to watch imposes notice this apparently divide vice president former vice president's speeches have been averaging between seven and twelve minutes to keep him from gasping on the campaign trail joining us now Republican strategist Matt McCauley act Matt the Democrats were first nervous about Bernie Sanders and now they're nervous about the mouth on Joe Biden yeah I mean it's this campaign's change quite a bit last two weeks I did look like Sanders was going to be the nominee going into South Carolina and and other firewall held for provide me one by such a large margin that carried him to the transmitters on super Tuesday and then on on on last Tuesday so yeah look bye bye needs a different candidate Sanders no question about that he does not create into heaven on the left I've been a long time is a really long record as we all know he makes mistakes you verbally he does on the campaign trail regularly and and now that he is you know really becoming the presumptive nominee the Democrats are really trying to tighten up around him we just installed a new campaign manager other cutting back his advance is going to be doing less interviews and yes his speeches are going to be far shorter instead of being a thirty minutes or an hour there could be maybe seven ten minutes at most hoping to to prevent him from creating the kind of moment that would change the campaign or give up something they could really use against him he's just a figure head is just the party that's running for office well it's yeah I mean the you know the Democrats know that there's a lot stake here and while there I think you know they they were happy that they were able to stop very Sanders that doesn't mean that divide is perfect he's not perfect you know he's a vestige of of a different of another era he's a white male to time the Democrats want anything other than that in as a sub for me he has a long record of of you know saying things that are pretty ridiculous even in the last few weeks he's confused what office he's running for what state he's in just really basic things and so they're misused questions about his stamina and his capacity the last few months and now of course this race enters a different phases he continues to get close to locking up the nomination did you know the the the stakes are going to rise the pressure's going to rise I don't think they can hide him forever but while we're in this intermediate phase before he becomes the actual nominee we moved to channel action they may be able to cut back things a little bit ma'am can I ask Republican strategist with us is it's interesting though that you know there were a lot of things that trump said on the campaign trail that everybody thought that's it his campaigns over somehow he managed to not like turn them around so that they weren't gaps he sort of own them what's the difference between these two candidates on one hand it seems as though some of the things that by just saying indicates maybe there's a problem with mental acuity in this situation as opposed to president trump to sort of says what's on his shoulder what's the difference between the two candidates yeah it's a little bit of a difference because you know the question the question with Biden's really you know does is he up to this is he is he okay what is his health status monitor running serious questions and and rob were voted out on asking them I mean these questions I would ask for months and months and months on on a major media outlets even by Democrats even by democratic candidates running for president they've been asked so it's not a not a new subject yeah you're right with trump I mean he's very very you know nontraditional is very unusual as a national figure yeah and I think you know his bluntness is is our president right you you know you you can come to expect that now about trump it's not a question of whether he has the sort of mental capacity to do the job or continue doing the job he's doing the job now so there's not much question about that with Biden he's not done the job he's been vice president but it's not the same thing and so the question is can he can handle it with pine and that's question he's gonna have to answer every single day for the election all right it's the stuff of Republican Mistretta just ma'am a callback thanks for your time this morning we appreciate it

Nancy Pelosi prepares to send articles of impeachment to Senate
"What big news this week the word is Nancy Pelosi the speaker of the house will be headed to the articles of impeachment over to the Senate as we hear from box reporter grip Jinkins finally after more than three weeks to go below sea is rated as soon as articles to Mitch McConnell who says he has the votes to start this trial it is not ruled out calling witnesses but pelo C. "The Ben Shapiro show will breaking news from Reuters now reporting that three house committees are asking the White House and the State Department for any information on private conversations between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, including an interview with an interpreter who sat in on their one on one meeting in Helsinki last summer. The broader question, the house intelligence, foreign affairs and oversight reform committees asked for the substance of President Trump's and Putin's conversations in person and by phone and for information on whether those conversations had any impact on US foreign policy. Obviously, this is really overstepping the bounds of the legislative branch is really not the president does have plenary power when it comes to speaking with members of of foreign governments. They're asking whether President Trump trying to conceal any information. President Trump also says he will now cooperate with the House Judiciary committee's investigation into his White House reporter asked him on Monday. If you cooperate with the investigation led by committee, chairman Jerrold Nadler from said, I cooperate all the time with everybody. You know, the beautiful thing is no collusion. It's all a hoax. Joining us on the line Representative Andy Biggs, he represents Arizona's fifth congressional district. Also, sits on the House Judiciary committee Representative big thanks so much for joining the Ben Shapiro show. Good to do as always so representatives. Can you start by outlining what exactly the House Judiciary committee is asking for at least Democrats on the House Judiciary committee are? Basi basically seeking everything from time. Donald Trump was born until today. This is so broad, and I it's ridiculous. They want information from eighty one different individuals necessarily even organizations one on the list of the White House. They just send somebody to the White House wants to Trump campaign team with the one that really tickled me the most was to Julian Assange, and if they think Julian Assange is gonna come in and testify. I mean, it's it's what this is is it's an embarrassment to them because they really can't restrain themselves. That's what we that's where we're sitting here. Well, what exactly do you think is the end goal here representatives? Do you actually think that impeachment is on the table? Or is this all just an attempt to generate publicity to stir up some dirt to obscure the fact that maybe there is nothing here in the end will where where do you think they're going with us? What other things going in? I think you're right up of my trying to leave groundwork for impeachment diktat, they might get out of the Muller reports the way they're moving on and believing that they don't think they're going to get anything from the mother report to be able to teach him. So they have to try broadly defined impeach. If you can't get that. And this is just to obliterate the molar findings are. To find a conspiracy between Trump and his campaign and the Russians at the same time. They're trying to embarrass everybody. That's basically all of Donald Trump's family now for those who don't know representatives. Have broad exactly is the subpoena power here. What does President Trump have to comply with if anything? Well, in theory, it's pretty broad. But we we can't even enforce our own subpoenas going to court. We have the subpoena. The they didn't comply for instance, if it's because I'm not gonna come sit down there and talk to you guys under oath, which was the right answer to give the we we can't do that. We can't interfere with the executive branch and to see the same thing that's been going on the more get this. By the way, they kept saying you can't all these people. We were trying to interview them because there's going investigation about thirty. These people are still involved in ongoing investigations, and they don't care now. So it's fairly broad. But I think courts are going to routinely go through this and say, well, you know, we're going to wash your your subpoena. You're not gonna be able to to compel somebody to come in and testify now Representative bags, obviously, Jerry, Nadler, other Democrats are talking impeach. We're at this point how much support do you think there actually is in the house if there were to be an impeachment vote taken it seems to me that the impeachment would pretty clearly pass simply because Democrats have no choice, but to appease their base at this point. Do you think that Democrats will even bring such a vote to the floor of the house knowing that it would pass? Well, I think Nancy Pelosi. Doesn't wanna do it. Because she saw what happened to us. When we tried to impeach Clinton. You got the impeachment the conviction, and the thing is she by before most radical people in the American Congress today, you know, everybody from. He was. It gives them credence. What the deal is. She only won the speakership to you. Switching over and she wouldn't have won the speakership. So she's gonna kowtow to them somewhat. But she does not believe because she's not she does not want to bring this to the floor speaking with Representative Andy Biggs, he is the Representative for congressional district and a member of the House Judiciary committee. We'll switching topics briefly represented L head are obviously has been engaged in statements for legitimately her entire career. She she's gotten herself finance medic hot water three times in the last five weeks and she had to reset her anti-semitism clock back to zero about three days ago. What do you think it has Democrats? Apparently they're talking about bringing a resolution have you seen this resolutions? You know, if it's going to specifically condemn her. And why do you think House Democrats are not looking at all apparently removed from foreign affairs? Well, I think I I have not seen the resolution. I I know it's going to be broad a number leave it's gonna name her personally. It's gonna talk about how bad anti-semitism is. But but here's the deal with her. This is a pattern. She really is an anti Semite. She has no business sitting on the phone. Affairs committee and she needs to go in. And and been the thing that drives me really crazy is not only close he'd been slow to condemn or she justified, especially English. She's an experience it's your first amendment. Right. And then she appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone with the Illinois mar that so she's not only not put her down. She's elevating her. And that's what we have to keep the pressure up because Illinois Marsh, not be allowed to sit on how foreign affairs committee now what kind of pressure. Do you think can be exerted at this point? And are there any plans by Republicans in the house to exert any of that pressure? Yeah. Mccarthy a minority leader and minority whip Scalise is out there. We're out there. Freedom caucus guys. It's broad within Republican conference in what's fun about this in a sense sort of way is that even many of the Democrats wanted to go away because she is dragging the whole democratic conference down. And the reality is she's a virulent anti Semite along with. And we have got to keep the pressure up. There is pressure there. That's why you're seeing this resolution represented big thanks for joining the program early. Appreciate appreciate your updates on these investigations as they continue. We'll continue to check in with you. And get the latest sounds great. Thanks for what you're doing. Then you bet. Okay. Coming up. We're gonna talk in a second about Google has very very awkward study first. Here's the latest with regard to those House Democrats, and they're silly broad-based resolution condemning anti-semitism, which basically means nothing speaker of the has Nancy Pelosi and top Democrats, according to politico, we'll take floor action on Wednesday. In response to controversial remarks by Representative Bill Hemmer about Israel. I'm old enough to remember when Steve king said something that was racist. And the media said, well, maybe it's allegedly racist. And then people said, no, no, you can't say that it's racist racist. So they went back and changed all it. These are controversial remarks Representative Mark she's now said three times in six weeks that it is Jewish money that is behind American support for Israel that it is dual loyalty that is behind American support for Israel. There's nothing new here in any case. Listen to the reporting from politico Pelosi and other senior Democrats are drafting a resolution for dress the controversy which ballooned over the weekend following the public clash between Omar and senior Jewish lawmakers. The resolution which is still being finalized comes after a backlash from top Democrats who accused of anti-semitism for a French who pro Israel advocates quote allegiance to a foreign country. Right. That's not just navigation events semitism. That's anti-semitism Hagan support Israel without having allegiance to Israel, many many Americans support Britain without having allegiance to Britain. Martial arts are just the latest in a series. As of comments, she's made that many of her democratic colleagues are blatantly anti semitic, and must be retracted democratic leaders are still debating whether to mention Omar by name and the resolution, according to multiple sources, they're not going to sapphires for Pelosi and top Democrats, including house majority leader tiny Hoyer democrat of Maryland began drafting the text of the resolution over the weekend as the confrontation between Omar and her colleagues unfolded on Twitter. Two of the house. Most senior Democrats foreign affairs, chairman Eliot Engel and appropriations chairwoman Nita Lowey called out Omar in public demanding. She apologize Lowy. Condemned Omar's, use of offensive painful stereotypes, and then Omar dug in and she said our democracy is built on debate congresswoman later, adding I've not mischaracterized our relationship with Israel. I've questioned it and that has been clear for my end. I look at that political reporting that's astonishing reporting by political. Can we bring up Mars actual tweet Nita Lowy? I believe we have that. Right. So listen to listen to how political quotes say. Our democracy is built on debate congresswoman Omar wrote later, adding I have not mischaracterized our relationship with Israel. They ignore the next sentence of her tweet, which is blatantly anti semitic shows. Our democracy is built on debate congresswoman, I should not be expected to have allegiance pledge support to a foreign country in order to serve my country in congress or serve on committee. She doubled down on the anti semitism in the tweet and political just alighted the entire sentence. They just cut the sentence said they didn't mention that. She doubled down on anti-semitism. That is some solid journalism right there, politico. Mike goodness. It's more of this in just one second. First. Let's talk about your hiring..

"Cents add up at the end of the day so as you think about an agenda for restoring the health of our of our of our democracy what what are two or three starting points that mrs secretary that you think we should think about as we head toward the midterms as we as we think about twenty twenty look the most the most critical thing in our democracy is the ability to govern i tell the students at the panetta institute that in a democracy we operate either by leadership or by crisis if leadership is there and willing to take the risks associated with leadership and make no mistake about it if you're gonna lead in this country you've gotta take risks gotta take risks if you're a businessman you gotta take risks that's what leadership's all about leadership is not there for whatever reason then we will govern by crisis and we have largely been a country in recent years that has governed by crisis you have to have a shutdown of the federal government in order for congress try to figure out what to do about the budget you have to have crisis in other areas in order to drive policy and the problem with that is you can operate that way as an elected official it's easy to wait for crisis and not have to do anything to anger your your constituents but ultimately there is a price to be paid in the prices you lose the trust of the american people in our system of governing and i think that's what the twenty two thousand sixteen election was all about was the lack of trust in washington and the failure of washington to deal with the issues that we're confronting the american people i haven't seen that improve in my history i've seen washington at its best in washington at its worst the good news is i have seen washington work when i came back worked as a legislative assistant to tom kiko who was a minority whip to everett dirksen in the senate there were a number of moderate republicans they work with democrats like humphrey and jackson dick russell they work together on issues yes they had their political differences but they work together when it came to issues confronting this country when i got elected to congress tip o'neill was the speaker he's a democrats democrat but he got along with bob michael who is the minority leader and did they have their political differences of course but when it came to major issues they work together they were willing to sit down to negotiate to respect each other to develop trust between each other and to govern the country that's broken down that process is broken down there is no trust they can't even agree on the facts regarding issues so there's an unwillingness to sit down and to negotiate and to find compromise and defying consensus and so you have to function and it's a dangerous dysfunction you can't deal with the budget you can't deal with the debt that's going to become almost over one hundred percent of gdp within these next few years they're not dealing with immigration they're not dealing with energy issues or not dealing with the whole issue of infrastructure and how to improve infrastructure in this country not dealing with the fundamental issues facing our country so concern i have is if that dysfunction continues then i think along with the president who is beginning to withdraw our leaders from our leadership role in the world i think that spells a week america and that could undermine our democracy for the future now i have great faith in our system i have great faith in in the fact that there are communities and states out there and institutions that want to make our our democracy strong but i will tell you this i do not think that our democracy is going to solve its problems from the top down it's only gonna solve its problems from the bottom up which means.
