"As a Fuji X user, it's exciting to see that sigma like others have seen the growth of his system and are now supporting it. The company says that this is just the start too. As other lenses are in the works for Fuji X and thank you very much. I appreciate it. One of those lenses that slated to be available in Fuji X mount is the recently released 18 to 50 millimeter F 2.8 D.C. DN a lens that's essentially a 27 75 millimeter F 2.8 in 35 millimeter terms, and that is a very useful range to have. In one lens right there. That should be available sometime they say in December of 2022. So we've got a while to wait for that one. Now the 1630 and 56 that sigma just announced is what the company is billing as its trio of F 1.4 APSC lenses. They promote them together, in fact, with the goal of presumably getting people to think of them as a group of lenses that you need to own. Much like companies promote the Trinity of lenses that are the 12 to 24, the 24 to 70 and the 70 to 202 8. Those are zooms of course. These other ones from sigma are all primes. So the prime Trinity, they want you to think of them as being. Fast primes at F 1.4. Each of these lenses have a stepping motor for smooth, quiet performance with a 9 bladed aperture diaphragm. That's 16 one four has 16 elements in 13 groups, including three elements. Two SLD elements and two molded glass of spherical elements. It has a minimum focusing distance of 9.8 inches. That's 24.9 centimeters, and a maximum magnification ratio of one to 9.9. The 31 four has 9 elements in 7 groups, a minimum focusing distance of 11.8 inches. That's 30 centimeters and has a maximum magnification ratio of one to 7. Finally, the 56 one four is ten elements in 6 groups, a minimum focusing distance of 19.7 inches, also known as 50 centimeters, and has a maximum magnification ratio of one to 7.4. Each of these lenses feature the company's super multi layer coating to reduce ghosting and flare to the extent that it can and help to produce sharp, high contrast images, even when there's backlighting they say. These lenses also feature dust and splash resistance, resistance, being the operative word there. They're not dust and splash proof. That's a whole different level of ceiling. Sigma says that this trio of lenses will be available sometime in April of 2022 with a 16 F 1.4 D.C. DN contemporary going for 449 U.S.. The 30 coming in at 339. And that 56 selling for 479. Now, I don't know, how long it's going to last, but I checked the websites of a number of retailers and see that they currently have a $75 off instant rebate, so that's even better. Those are even cheaper than. Now, if we can get tamron to release more of their lenses in Fuji X mount, that would be great. Either way, sigma seeing that making lenses is worthwhile for we Fuji users is pretty darn sweet and very much appreciated. Sigma makes great glass. Tehran does as well. Tokina, I don't know. Next. Since you all listen to this show, you know my thoughts on sensor size. It is largely irrelevant. No one can tell the difference. Fight me. And why I chose not to get into the tiny town micro four thirds, mostly because my hands are ginormous. I'm 6 foot four after all. I could have shot that system and otherwise been perfectly happy. I can rattle off names like Levi sim, Joe Edelman, and many others who've made incredible images with our micro four thirds cameras. And if you didn't know ahead of time, you would just assume they were shot on full frame or maybe crop. Again, it doesn't matter. What does matter? How's that for a segue a? Is that Panasonic? Has confirmed that it is indeed committed to the micro four thirds format. And not just with its higher end cameras, like the new GH 6. And of this translated from Japanese to English via Google Translate, which kind of sort of gets it mostly right. Panasonic marketing manager to minori nakanishi says, quote, we believe in the diverse possibilities of micro four thirds, and we are developing such diversified products. In today's world, we're full size machines are becoming more popular in a sense. It may be a unique approach to develop the full size lineup and house at the same time to develop the micro four thirds lineup in full scale. However, I believe that this approach will allow the GH 6 to establish a very sharp and unique position in the world at this moment. End quote. Now, does this mean that we might actually see updates the bodies like the GX 7, the G 9 or G 100 time will tell. When you consider that less than two years ago, the company said that micro four thirds was a precious asset, and yeah, so I'm doing air quotes here. And that OM digital solutions what's Olympus forever in my mind has leaned in on the format. I think it's pretty safe to say that micro four thirds is going nowhere any time soon. I guess this is one of those cases where going nowhere is a good thing. Next. Hands down, one of the best online shopping experiences I've ever seen in our industry or anywhere actually is from moment. In fact, it might be the very best. It's hard to explain. You're going to have to check it out. It is just so darn intuitive. Not only that, it's also fun. I don't know how they managed to achieve that. You're going to find cool gadgets and all kinds of fun, useful problem solving items over at shop moment dot com slash.

No one will give the money, but that's not what you guys are saying. Okay. Maybe that's why I'm saying more famous person of color after they said it has to be a, they said it has to be a white cast. That is obviously racist. There's no way around it. I don't think it's racist. I think it's called marketing. It's Yeah, it's bottom line. The great thing about Minori is they want to make money. But the great thing about Minori is, um it's a great movie got a lot of Oscar recognition and awards recognition. And, Yeah, that was that's a Korean, Korean and American made film. "And Getty show. Some things. A lot of things get talked about is a big deal long after they're no longer a big deal. Just because you're kind of stuck in the old days, and the Oscars is certainly one of them. They used to be a big deal, and they were second only to the Super Bowl in the biggest show of the year, and everybody watching everybody talked about it and I knew people that used to have parties where they get all dressed up to watch and stuff like that. I mean, just it was. It was a really big deal, and it's no longer big deal. Almost 60 million people watched it the year the Titanic won everything. There's no reason to talk about anymore. What got less than 10 million people watched on Sunday night there five shows on every night. They get 10 million people watching it for we're gonna talk about something 10 million people watched. There's plenty of those Now that's probably not a completely accurate on shirts on naked reflection of the ratings is a lot of people watch TV through different ways now, But this year was crazy, Weird because nobody went to the movies, but it's just it and it dropped had the lowest ratings it ever had last year. Before you could blame the pandemic, and this year's down 58% from Matt 68% drop from its lowest year ever, and it's not gonna bounce back. It's it's dead, so that's fine. But Bill Maher was talking about and he a couple of weeks ago, he predicted really bad ratings, he said. We're having one of the weirdest years of our lives one of the saddest years of our lives and you put out all these down or movies. I mean, no wonder nobody watched. And Bill, Maher said. Here's a summary of the contenders this year for the Oscars, starting with Nomad Land, which took only the best award of the best picture this year. By the way, that's the one about the woman who winds up living in her van after husband dies of cancer. And Judas in the Black Messiah. The FBI kills the leader of the Black Panthers, and in the trial of the Chicago Seven, the FBI kills the leader of the Black Panthers again. Promising young woman has Carrie Mulligan avenging a murderers, rapists But then he kills her to the sound of metal is about a musician going deaf. The father is about an octogenarian descending into dementia. And minori is the story of dirt poor Korean immigrants in Arkansas who put all their food in a barn. But then Grandma has a stroke and burns it down. Now go enjoy the show. Wow. Wow, when you put it like that. My life is so effortless in full of joy every single second. I need something to really bring me down. I'm gonna go to the movies. I'm not sure that's the reason that it's over. There's all kinds of reasons we hit it on an earlier, actually. Sean with the idea that well, it used to be rarely that you got to see these people being themselves. Um, did you summon TV and movies now? Here they are being themselves. Well, now you get to see him being themselves all the time and beyond that, with Twitter and social media, you knew you really get to see them being themselves like you get to hear all their opinions about everything and turns out They're not some sort of floating above it all whys. Glamorous, glamorous, You know, they're just like any other doofus. You know, They're like your sister in law. The guy at the end of the bar. They have some opinion. Some of me agree. It's something you don't know special about him at all. So dirty when you don't know me tip either. Let's just fine. Thanks. Come and go. But I know I'm not going to miss the Oscar. I predict they will gain back half of that audience lost latte next year and get to 15 million Whoop de Doo. Yeah. Exactly. Yeah, it's the trend is unmistakable. However..

"Of New York City. Glenn Berman and Michael Riedel wants one WR Well nomination season. We have the Golden Globes out earlier this week, and then we have the SAG Awards Screen Actors Guild Awards. Gonna be kind of a strange season for the nomination because I don't know what the show's gonna look like. Certainly no red carpets or anything like that. Yes, there will be virtual, But sag nominations made a little more sense to letting me than the Golden Globes did, But here to sort it all out for us is Joe Newmark WR movie movie minute. Good Morning, Joe. How are you? Morning, guys? Yeah, it is going to be a weird your first ball. Of course. Everything is gonna be virtual. For the most part. We still don't know what the Oscar is gonna be like. But the Golden Globes gonna be doing it where Amy Poehler's in New York, I think and Tina Fey's in L. A. So they'll be sort of zooming back and forth. Or maybe cameras, you know, or cell phones that on the potential winners, and so if they win, it might be, you know, accepting live kind of thing. It's just a quick note. I think it's going to be interesting this year because it's gonna be almost a little bit like the year that the Oscars celebrated indie films. Remember that back in 1996 when it was movies like Shine and Fargo When things like that, that sort of got a lot of attention and Billy Crystal famously said, You know who are all you people because they weren't Hollywood royalty on. I think it's gonna be a little of that this year. Because all of these things you know we'll have streamed very few of them if any premiered in theaters on so right saying makes a lot more sense and Golden Globes, of course, But you know, that's like 95 foreign journalists voting for those things. Where is the Screen Actors Guild is from people in the industry. And so that makes a lot of sense. So let's just jump into that. You know, I think that the the the Sehgal Wars has got a good sense of what what people really saw and what they liked, And obviously there's a There's a sense of the Golden Globes kind of lost. You know, the nominee a lot of black lead films. In fact, none of them the five blood did not get nominated. Where is it did at the at the SAG Awards? And ah and Marines. Black bottom came out. Really, You know, strong on top. Chadwick Boseman got nominated for best actor posthumously. Obviously, he also has nominated best supporting role 45 blood, So it's It's gonna be an interesting sort of here. What did you guys think? Is you read those? Those SAG awards? What jumped out at you? Well, I think it was so different the job than the Golden Globes because the Golden Globes was lily white and of the five nominees for best film at the SAG Awards for them. Well, at least three of them were minority and the fourth one involves the Korean story. So it was. It was very diverse. That's right. That's right. In fact, four out of five the only one that's not in the trial the Chicago seven, which is a great film at night, and that's also another thing, which was kind of Netflix has gotten, you know a really big boost this year. This may be the year that they end up winning an Oscar after a couple of Europe strong years because all we're looking at the SAG awards and looking even at Golden Globes. You've got a lot there. But right for the five Bloods, Marini's black bottom all great choices. Minori is really strong through the people that movie that people may not know about minorities. They're really nice films A really strong Minori is about a Korean family that's living in Arkansas. They're immigrants to Arkansas and trying to fit into the community, and the father is played by a terrific actor named Steven Yeun that people may know from the walking dead. And the grandmother who's in there who I think is nominated, actually for AH, Sag Award for best Supporting actress is really fun. She's a She's sort of this live wire. She's really Sparky, this old woman who's kind of always giving, you know kind of inappropriate advice in some ways, and it's really kind of a fun a fun character. It zah fish out of water movie, which is really, you know, obviously, it's always a popular thing, but it's really interesting. It's interesting about how how different cultures kind of assimilated into really nice. A nice drama One night in Miami is also another one that people have been talking about it got nominated at at the SAG Awards is directed by the actress Regina King, who got a NASCAR for a fields. We could talk and not watchman and a few other things, and that's based on a place about a night in 1964 that Muhammed Ali, then cold caches. Play, of course, uh, Sam Cooke, Malcolm X. And, uh, and the football players seem to be actor Jim Brown get together in a in a hotel room with a sort of celebrate. Uh, cash is Clay's win over Sonny Liston, and it's a great drum. It's really terrific. Leslie Odom, who was in Hamilton, uh, got nominated for best supporting actor for ladies. He is It's really a terrific felon that's nominated for best best drama. A to the organ. I'm fumbling story at the SAG Awards. Yeah, these are all really terrific movie that people just seek out. You know, I was kind of sad that my friend Franklin Jello was overlooked at the Golden Globes. I thought he would have been perfect nominee for a supporting actor to move because he's so good and the evil judge in the trial, the Chicago seven Totally agree. And Eddie Redmayne would've been great in there, too. But I actually thought Franklin Jell O would have been really a terrific choice. Sasha Baron Cohen. What a year for him. Obviously, the you getting supporting actor nomination for trial in Chicago seven for playing Abbie Hoffman. But then Bora and had a really strong are really strong, showing its best picture, musical or comedy. It's in there. Maria Batalova, who's hilarious, and it is in there is best actress. You know, it's really an interesting year. Because a lot of these movies are the movies. You wouldn't expect it to get nominated things like Palm Springs, even which is terrific. The sound of metal actor named Riz Ahmed, who's terrific, and there is best actor in a drama You Place a heavy metal drummer who's going deaf, and that's a really, really strong movie because it really kind.

"Inside the Beltway at The Washington Times. Good morning. Good morning. You know, there have been a lot of precedents set by the new president, including the number of executive orders and the soul notion of bipartisanship that went right out the window when he was inaugurated. But the new Congress is also setting a precedent. Yes. This is sort of a cultural moment to pay attention to, because According to a very in depth analysis, the U. S. Congress is now the most diverse. On record. Meaning they are the most racially and ethnically diverse in history. This is coming from our panels over the Pew Research Center. And here's exactly what they say. A quarter of the voting members 23% in the U. S. House of Representatives and Senate are racial or ethnic minorities, making the 117th Congress the most racially and ethnically diverse in history again. This is coming from the Pew Research Center, and they're simply going over the existing data and records and so forth of the current sitting Congress as of January, the 26 so this is very current. Here's what they say. Overall 124 lawmakers today identify as black, Hispanic, Asian Pacific Islander or Native Americans, according to data from the Congressional Research Service Service. This represents a 97% increase over the 107th Congress of 1 4003, which only had 63 Minori members. And they say among today, senators and representatives, the overwhelming majority of racial and ethnic minority members are Democrats 83%, while only 17% of Republicans Of course, there's a lot of this is predictable, but it's very interesting that this is a historic time when this is much on the minds of both Republicans and Democrats and the public in general, about diversity and so forth, But here we have the most of Bruce Congress and history. It's kind of an interesting moment. It's an evolving moment. But it's coming from our friends at the Pew Research Center and okay, attention to what they say. So the former president used to office out of Trump Tower prior to his White House stay. He is now in Florida. And what is he up to? Well, this is very interesting because out of nowhere and as the big surprise, a lot of journalists, including myself, got an email from the office of the former president, and that is what Donald J. Trump is calling his office. And they're going to be taking care of Mr Trump's correspondents, public statements, appearances, etcetera, and I noted the final sentence of this very short email that went out to everyone. They say President Trump will always and forever be a champion for the American people. That kind of tells you that tome and he's going to be taking as he goes forward so more to them and come not much out there yet on that, But there is a lot out there about how Republicans they're feeling about Mr Trump these days, even weeks after all of the stuff that went on earlier This month, and Republicans air definitely standing by their man, and she'll have to remember he's only been out of office little if literally for a couple of days, But the majority of Republicans are now declaring that they still want him on the political battlefield. Inciting now a new poll from morning consoles and politico. This was released on Wednesday. Very current. They say the share of Republican voters who say the 45th president should play a major role in the future of the GOP has increased 9% points to 50%. Mrs. Compared to Ah survey that was conducted right after the January 6 riots. Oh, that's pretty Pretty a significant that that sentiment went way up like that, And this is a big poll 4296 Republican voters were part of this and 81% of them. Have a positive favorability rating for Mr Trump. This is up from 76% in a similar survey that was conducted him in January. So You have to take up those numbers and think about the sentiments of Republicans who were kinda boots to the ground at this point, and the sentiments are going up there still feeling very good. They want President Trump to be in there as a major force in the party. We'll see how that works out. And the one other part of this whole like was talking about how Republicans feel about themselves and 36% of Republicans now would remain with the GOP as it is another 30% are very interested in becoming a member of the Patriot Party. That's the third party that Trump made of fun. We don't know about that either, and 25% either don't know or have opinion and a truly Independent 8% of Republicans also say they're not interested in either party. So more than that to come, But I thought the positive ratings for President Trump was sort of reassuring for a lot of Republicans. So a headline it inside the Beltway. The grab my eyes this week. Facebook deciding to purge itself of politics? Yes. Isn't that amazing? Let's talk about Facebook for a moment there in and out of the news quite often, and you have to remember. When they talk about it being a social giant. It is 2.8 billion active users a month. OK, They also has some pretty tidy profits coming in. For example, last year, their total revenue was $86 billion. That's up 22% from 2019, and they made a $33 billion profit this year. That's up 36%. Compared to last year. And you have to wonder did all the political drama in the 2020 election contribute to that because there was so much going on with divisive love, political content and so forth and so on Well, regardless of whether contributed or not Mark Zuckerberg because the founder of Facebook. He has declared that he is going to rid Facebook off politics, and here's what he said In a conference call this week, he said. One of the top pieces of feedback that we're hearing from a community right now is that people don't want politics and fighting to take over their experiences on our services. There has been a trend across society that a lot of things have become politicized and politics have had a way of creeping into everything. So, he says. We've stopped recommending civic and political groups in the U. S ahead of the elections where continuing to find tune how this works, but we plan to keep civic and political groups out of recommendations for the long term. And we plan to expand the policy globally..

"She's channeling it into this rap career. And so we see her going in a completely different direction on But that rap career ends up doing even though it's so far away from the stage Andhra prestige of a theater. She's actually unlocking who she really is. And by unlocking Khushi Really is. She's able to go back to theater and take control of her story and take control of the message and provide perhaps a pathway for other people who are watching as well. It's just delightful. It's so funny Andrada blank from writing, directing and starring in her own story is just so talented, so I can't wait to see what she does next. John. We started out by talking about postponement and the decision so money these studios made to postpone the release of movies, particularly big budget movies. Let's look forward as we look back when I mean, what are you looking forward to in in 2021? Well, one of the things I'm I'm concerned about because Brooks films Minori, Miss Juneteenth and 40 year old version all played at the Sundance Film Festival in January of this year. That festival is gonna be scaled back dramatically because of the pandemic, so the ability of films to come out of Sundance and get traction or get Distribution is going to be probably severely curtailed. You know, Eric talked about Scott Frank on Queen's Gambit. I've known Scott for years, he said. He said to me that Queen's game it took years to get made. So the fact that these movies are out there in these shows are succeeding. Is almost over a fluke. So I'm really concerned about what happens next. The good news, I think and not to knock Wonder Woman. This is a movie that doesn't seem to be doing really well. The franchise business which Hollywood you know, relies upon the Marvel movies, Star Wars movies. It requires big theatrical box office and that Part of the of the equation is gone because these movies cost about half a billion dollars to produce and release so of the financial model for making them has gone. Maybe, and I'm really hopeful here, the studios will rethink their you know, approach to filmmaking and say, Maybe we should make smaller movies. May we should make adult dramas Maybe we should hire Independent filmmakers who can work fast don't have big cast, you know, don't cost a lot of money. Maybe there's gonna be a fundamental realignment of the our priorities as filmmakers because look at what succeeding. I mean, look at a show like unorthodox on Netflix. Who would've thunk who would think that Ah syriza about chess would be second only to the crown at Netflix. The audience is hungry for original stories that haven't been told. So I would hope the studio's listen and don't make the 17th Marvel movie but make something that's original and new because the audience is hungry for it. And thank goodness maybe the financial model is going to accelerate that change. Practice. This hope spring eternal, dirty. Agree with John, Do you share some of his optimism? I am hopeful. I really am hopeful. But I do also with that, as studios are acknowledging how much audiences are hungry not only for that, but representation as well that there will be some more careful consideration to the representation that we are gonna be receiving in these new projects that will be coming out because we have so many fantastic shows and TVs, shows and movies that we've just discussed, But there were some problematic ones as well. We still have No dealing with colorism. We're still dealing with fat phobia we're still dealing with, you know, actors wanting to play roles that perhaps should not be theirs to play such as the story of trans people, you know, so we still are dealing with a lot of these things..

"Was dealing with a baby, too. Uh oh, righty when it comes to the new pressure on boards because the NASDAQ has said, and this is from the Wall Street Journal, the NASDAQ has said We want you to meet quotas. You're gonna have a black person on your board and you have to have you also have to have now. B g Q community person as well. You gotta have a lesbian one or or a woman or Trying have come to see you. Right? So you see you check the boxes, but you've got the box. Is there now a little deeper into the political identities, So it's black and Black and lesbian plant, canned or minority. With that cover and war. Minori minority representation is and you have to have two members on the board. But listen, John before we disagree with our politics on this, I want Could you explain to those of us who don't run in the money circles that you do? What exactly do the boards do? What's the significance of having people on the book is what we're talking about this. They want to diversify the boards. Can you explain what the boards of a company do? And why they have power or not? The board on a public a traded company, or you gonna privately traded company aboard is the sort of the overseer of the CEO. The CEO can come in. Hey, I got this great idea. I wanted this and this and this and this now, the CEO says, I want to do this. This and this and this. It's going to benefit the CEO financially. In some ways. Now the board goes. Whoa, whoa, whoa. And the board sort of represents the shareholders. Those the people that own the company. You could go to the shareholders meetings. Amazon has a big shareholders meeting. You could also get a chance to elect the board members. You can help put the board members on there and the board members, the person that says it's sort of the go between It says to the CEO. Yeah, not so fast on that Warren Buffet talks about what he wants before in a board member, and he's a lot of times these guys get. Yes, guys on there. It's like, Well, whatever you watch your Hey, pay me $75,000. I'll be on the board and all they do is rubber stamp will eventually what happens with a weak board and a powerful CEO. It starts to move into the direction of the CEO is not having anybody sort of. Check him along the way or check her along the way. And the shareholders get mad because the the you start to see the value of the stock begin to drop. So the board is in there almost like a check and balance to make sure that the public which owns the company is being represented in the board room. There you go. Okay, So the significance of this why would it be significant to have minority representation on the board because they would dictate Certain policies that might not be represented if they weren't on the board. I'm just very kind of pragmatic level. Yeah, I guess it was a there's a study that came out of England in Australia's well saying diversity helps with companies to be more profitable to refute that, but that's what they go with. So the NASDAQ says, Listen. Have more diversity, because what then that Elijah do is not just the shareholders. That's you and me owning 48% of Americans own stock, then also the stakeholders. The stakeholder is the lady down the street who doesn't own any stock but is affected by what that business does so. Diversified, bored with people that are representing people that are maybe not, you know, inside the country club set would then be able to speak to the stakeholders. The stakeholders being the community at large. Okay, so most people that get on boards are appointed by whom. Who decides that they get chosen by the public can vote for them. Who the board members congee or a lot of times the CEO get their buddies in there, and that's the problem. So I'm just wondering. So these minority representations these, uh, minority or women? Um, um Quoted. I guess people have sit on sit on the board, though who appoints, then that's I'm just I'm just trying to understand the mechanics of this. If it is, it's up to the CEO or something that I'm just wondering is that you say it's a public vote. I'd be surprised if everybody votes for every board. But they have stopped it. I get those things all the time. And I just ignored for different. Yes. Okay, throw them out. Okay. Rest of the board would bring somebody on. You would nominate to bring somebody I'd like to bring on. So is so in such a board member of this Bring him on. Because a lot of times these board members Aaron for 24 month cycle. They're in for a little while. But whenever I see a bailout, they come in come out, sometimes in there for a long time. He could really screw up a company pretty bad if they don't check the CEO, But in this case, what they're basically saying is get somebody to choose them by the color of their skin, not by their ability to understand business. Let's check the box so that everybody feels great about the fact that you've got a lesbian onto your board now. So I mean, and this That's not what they say. They say that there are plenty plenty of people that haven't had a chance because of their background, not because of their experience to be put on boards, and that's for the Wall Street Journal, which already is editorially Command said. You know, we're against this, but in this particular article, they say that they interview a lot of yours ain't no there tons of people who are qualified. So then the question becomes. Do you want to be named to aboard? Not because you're qualified, even though you are, but because you're black or a woman or LGBT Q and all of that, and that's what you have to be careful because you don't want to just be the token. In other words, it'll say you have I have no idea how many what the average number is. Let's say you have You know, 50 board members and if you're one or two people if they're just there to be ignored by in out, voted 52 to each time. There's no point If you have real legitimate impact on that board when you're on then that would have some You know some power justification for being on the board, I guess. A friend of mine is a headhunter and does big big deals. I mean, this guy is a multi millionaire. Okay and he get he's been getting more calls in the last couple of months last, say 89 months and there and from big companies. Saying, Get us a black guy. We don't care. Just get up. Get us a black woman. Just find somebody find somebody.

"I'm Bob Simms. Thank you. So much for tuning in this morning. Well, we have one week to go for two. Relatively big events. One is the Pittsburgh fishing derby for Stripers in sturgeon. That's next week, October, 24th and October 25th. And we'll tell you how you can register for that. It's like two derbies in one. It's a good concept. There's one entry fee. You can fish one day or two day. But there's prize money for both days and interesting concept and It's fun. The other is a week from today, the balance of the state water files season opens. There's an awful lot to say about that AA and and to get us off on the right foot or at least the most knowledgeable foot. We're gonna have to special gifts today. One In about Just over 10 minutes from now, Of course, Mr Chris, full stir or join us and find out what he has heard around the valley. Um That would be water file season without Chris Bolster. I've been doing this programme for over 30 years. He's been with me every single year. And nobody. I don't care who you're talking about. Knows more about ducks, then Krish, so ah, and he's so well connected up and down the valley and even upon the Klamath Basin, so I'm going to get his take on the opener. What's going on? And then it's seven o'clock. We're gonna have John Carlson, president of the California Waterfall Association, and we're going to do a couple things there were going to discuss what's going on with Klamath Basin because there's no water, you know, but botulism killed over 40,000 birds up there. Ah, it's another federal agency that falls flat on its face when it takes When it comes to taking care of things, and it's nothing new. They have been doing it forever, and this is just an exaggeration of all their screwups. And then we're going to do a what John's going to give us the waterfall surveys for the You know the nesting grounds up in Canada and the Northwest Territories, Alaska for both ducks and geese, and then he's going to give us to California outlook for locally produced birds. Of course, we think mallards when we do that Man and also the different fund raisers where you can help C w way because obviously, we haven't been able to do the dinners this year. That's a major source of funding for the California Waterfall Association. Unlike Ducks unlimited, which major grants throughout the country will duck California waterfall doesn't have that and all their money stays in California. So it's important. You know, there's an online auction today that you Khun Goto Their website, cow waterfowl dot or GE and participate in an auction and let me tell you there's some deals out there. So you go to the website. You could just sign and bid on stuff from home. Anyway, um, outside the waterfall season. Um, the salmon is just Ah, there's no place there's really great salmon fishing right now. You would think the American River for should be in the shock among a river right now, and people should be catch him. But this week saw a little spark here a little spark there, but for the amount of people fishing for salmon It is just not very good. Yeah, it's still worth it to go out and put in your time to get one. But you know as far as going out and catching two or three or four fish in your boat. Very, very rare. Very rare s O. We don't know what the heck the the deal is there, but we're just gonna have to live with it. It's not impossible that other salmon could be on her way up the American River fish, But we just don't know for sure. However, on the Upper Sacramento River, we're going to hear about some pretty impressive steal him. These are very big fish for Sacramento River Fish would usually average about £3. We're talking about 5 to £7.5. Just this week. Then we'll get a steelhead report. I'll tell you what's going on over in the Klamath River and on the Trinity River. Um things were starting to happen. They're both places quite well, I might have. Uh then we're going to talk to Brian Makuuchi who has been Well, he's been fishing has been busy because he lives in Quincy. And you know the fire almost surrounded That town could have burned it down very easily. But they protected the town proper. And Brian's been fishing. Lake el Minori, and you got to hear this because if just off the hook, as they say, wonderful fishing for both rainbows and browns, In fact, a friend of mine was up there with some other guys this week sent pictures of beautiful browser was all they did with catch and release. The board. Did they have a ball? Brian's going to give us details on that, Uh, we're going to get around up How the trout stream there doing up north. We're going to hear from Kyle Wise, that headhunter guide service. He's down catching salmon in Lake Don Pedro. Yeah. And these are some nice fish. Remember early in the season? How? Lake Orville really kicked out some beautiful fish. In fact, I went up there with Rob Reimers. We had a ball up there and we caught several of those big fish. Including a few smaller ones. It's just quality stuff because you catch any fish should never quit fighting your used in light tackle. That's what Kyle's doing down at Don Pedro. It'll be good to hear from him, and we'll hear from of worst, Andy every ville. What's going on with Sam and it seems like the salmon don't want to leave the ocean this year. I called the hotline looks like it's slowing down a little. But you just never know Gary Cho will join us in the seven o'clock hour and we're going to be talking about Last week's Shasta Lake Trout Derby now every year about this time That lake goes through a transition. You know where That the shadows show up. Are they deep are the shallow. What size are they? Where are they? And ah, Also the fish start transitioning out of deep water Summer shallow summer. It's hard to find him there. Just there's no concentration of them. We're talking trout, So it makes fishing very difficult. And this year Derby proved it because no, really big fish were taken. I don't think there was a fish. Ah, Too much over £3 taken So, uh, you know, what does that mean? Like there's no fishing like, Well, we know better that league full of big fish. But this is just that transition time We're going to tell you how they caught him. And if you're going up there in the near future, what's about to happen so Shasta Lake and they had from weather up there. That was not pleasant. But I'll tell you how they they, Uh they dealt with it, Of course, Got Les stuff will be here. Clyde. The old timer's been down a couple of times just week There's more stripers showing up. Down low and at various points and he will give us Of course, the inside scoop there. Then there's some other issues. And now that waterfall season is almost upon us. People are becoming even more where of what his amounted to be. Maybe the worth worst Department of Justice in the country headed up by Javier Herb Acerra, because he's taken law abiding people and making it Extremely difficult to buy ammunition. I think the sparks are handling those kids for way, Dude, you know, I would pay to see that, though. I'd pay to see the Sparks played the eighth graders See what happens. Maybe they're right. You know, Maybe it's a you know 58 to 3. All right, but I don't know It's awesome. Pretty good. Even when I was in school at L. A U. S. D. I saw some eighth graders that were there were dunking on a regular basis. Not just, you know, like, you know, like I had one shot like during a game. They would, you know, dunk with authority, not just barely getting over the rim, but ah, Candace Parker for the L A Sparks. She won defensive player of the year this year. She's swatting anything those kids put. I don't know, man. I'd like to see it. I think I think the kids would be willing to do it. I'm not sure the Sparks had wanted to it. Oh, the kids are for sure down. I don't know about so much that sparks, but why wouldn't they want to do it if they knew they could win? It's a great idea for paper view. Great idea, even not even pay per view. Just a game, you know, just sell out Staples and seek a sellout staples for the home in a heartbeat. In a heartbeat. And I would be the first guy there, you know, sitting courtside. With, you know, with all those celebrities you and Jack sitting courtside, it'll be perfect meal. Billy Crystal have ability. What does he feel like today? He's probably a mess. He might still be hiding in his bedroom with a bottle of whiskey, something Billy Crystal's the last real big celebrity that I can think of. Hi. Do we wanted them to really understand what it was like You and Vince Welch was so good. He played so well with him and his great had sportscast form and Joe and John Matthews was always he would tape record that little stations where we rotate school reunion. I know it in this problem here taping, But that was fun for me. I love you. Whatever we did it again, though we should make one of the stops HR Just shown with the rest of it. We don't have any wife There is going to be. Yeah. These are the people. They're going to ruin your life. Don't be thrown gasoline on a fire. All right. One more thing, Terry. Remember this because I thought of HR is we had this great idea. The cults were going deep into the playoffs and we're playing the chief's so we came up. We got a prize package and it was dunk. The chief Right. He was way Gotta dunk tank about January was cold. So we got an intern because that's when you could still, you know, taken in turn, and we got a chief cost God about this, and I I I left the station. We're gonna fill it with water. We had our contestants coming down. We're going to throw balls and dunk the chief. In freezing water in January. I got there at 5 a.m. Upstairs have got ahold of it. They were afraid water would splash out and freeze on the sidewalk and someone would slip they didn't care about. So they put balloons. We had balloons with Don quix cheapen the balloons. The Insider's Amalfi

"When you dream of a change of scenery I'll bet it looks a lot like the Mafia coast of Italy. It's famous for the scent of lemon trees and breathtaking ocean views from a white-knuckle highway high above the jagged slopes of the soren team peninsula end long grew up in small town Illinois fell in love with an Italian from Sorrento and she's made that area her home since she joins us an insider's view for exploring the Amalfi area and nearby without being at the mercy of an endless crowd. Fellow sightseers and welcome. Thank you very much. I'm glad to be here rick. Now and you live in the Mafia coast. Yes have you noticed How does it deal with congestion? I mean everybody's wild about the mafia cost. Everyone wants to see it. It's one of the main things that when you coming down to my area. POMPEII and the Alfie Coaster. Too Big stops while you know when I think about it of all the places I could stay with a tour group Sorrento. You could spend a lot of nights there I think because from that home base you can see Capri you can see leave. You can see POMPEII and of course you can make that excursion done the Amalfi coast tight. Everybody wants to go to the famous places on the Amalfi the town of a Mafia Pussy Tano Rebelo but there must be another dimension because even parking your car is like impossible in a multi. It's become impossible. It really has become impossible on those seems to be the cities that are more advertised to the American market. That they're familiar with the name. But there's so many places between those cities and passed. I following the same drive and you're even extending it even as far as Salerno so there is that drive. It's the coastal highway one. Oh One kinda that's exactly right. It is a narrow road with a lot of buses. I remember they had a situation. What was the deal? One day everybody will go north and the other day everybody go south or what is that. They they tried with smaller buses. This is that now. You can't go with anything longer than a certain things so that they could pass correctly then the guy to the alternative license plates then they got to the permits that you'd you'd have to apply for a permit and now it's one way can go down but they have to come back a different way. They can't come back the same way. Oh I didn't know that okay so it is north to south and then you can go back inland top and come back on the tollway from Salerno. Okay this is travel with Rick Steves. We're talking with Enron. We're talking about out for adopted neighborhood. The mafi coast. Why is there so much intrigue about the Amalfi Coast? What is it about it that brings all the people are so they're they're very very well advertised for fashion for food for the Liebmann cello for pottery and just the spectacular very high end restaurants and hotels when he puts a ton of it was like made for jeters just a gorgeous tiny little Kabul town? But it's got all these design shops and the yachts on the ads that that are outside of Posey. Tommy you gotta get to know somebody down at the port so that you know who's in town. Oh my goodness so as just part of the rabble who does never yacht you can be stuck stuck outside the town wondering why can't get it in. So where where would you go. That's not one of the famous places so of course it. You certainly want to see the whole Amalfi coast but once you get to Amalfi Oh fi you can whether you you're driving you continue on or if you take the public bus you just swap and you can go further on me. Noti and my Odi are called minor in major ager. Those are beach communities that are very well known with Italians but not so much with the foreigners and my experience in Minori is that there are a lot of big simple simple hotels that have affordable room very likely to have his body. Yeah a little bit cheaper. Prices minority am I am or I and then the sister city Meharry Meharry M. A. I. O. R. is that literally major and minor yes named after the branches of a river and then from there. You've got access to a Nice beach very nice beach sir. My odious major is the largest beach flat beach much better than Posey. Tanno much better than a mouth. Isn't that ironic. Cheaper people go go to the beach and they go to Positano and they don't get nice pay three times. The amount and I would think minorities just half an hour away from some of these other. Famous prices exactly act on a public bus. A public bus and the bus would come by every Roman history. There are women remains in that town of minority as well. So it's not just that you go there for a beach you can have a walk around and have a look at the history now. There's a very popular walk that goes from up in the hills in Rabelo down to Amalfi the town It's it's just dramatic. Walk talk a little bit about the hikes possible in the mall. Fico straight we have a again they sell hiking maps that take you all either horizontally right across the mountain or up and down and of course our most famous one is the pathway of the gods that starts up above mouthy heads in finishes above Posey channel. So you've got the sea in front of you the whole time while you're walking for the kind of Hecker that likes to have gravity be on your side. You can take a bus or taxi up to the tonight you start at the top and then working down and then work your way
