"Make sure you get in on this 90% offer right now. $4999 for the NFL season right now, $499. But today To date on ly. I can't stress that enough guys, This is like unprecedented. This is an unprecedented deal $499 right now for the entire NFL season. Are you kidding me? 800 for 993733 make the call right now, and he's willing approved to you. He can win as usual, just like last week's Ravensgame just like last week's Rams game, just like last week's Arizona Cardinals game and a slow other free picks that we gave out on multiple platforms throughout the country, OK? Guys. We're not afraid to give out free picks. I got one for you right now is going to give out the winner between the cult and Vikings. Let's break it down first. Let's get excited. Ladies and gentlemen, here we go with another winner and Rick. The reason I chose this game to give it out free on the areas because I believe it's a complete mismatch in the spread is completely wrong, Okay? And here's why first off. The Vikings. Yeah, they got roughed up last week. They were at home in the dome against a Green Bay team with a chip on its shoulder. Let's face it, Aaron Rodgers as an underdog is I mean, just outright stupid. You got to get all over him. We used the Green Bay Packers last week to get it done in Minnesota. And boy, did they ever now you gotta Minnesota Vikings team that went deep last year still has the same weapons. Dalvin Cook is an absolute beast. They've got a wide receiving core in a quarterback to get the bull there. They're going to score. Points. Where is the Indianapolis Colts? Boy? Oh, boy, I expected more. Don't get me wrong. Philip Rivers, He put up points but against the Jacksonville P. M. That police there's no way that that should have been a game. And if you ask me the wrong side of the game wound up winning, and here's the bottom line, this Colts team they're not very good. I was expecting their defense. To show up and be able to at least slow down the Jacksonville Jaguars. You let garden a mint you go 15 of 17 on his 1st 17 throws of the game, and now you're going to tell me the Vikings aren't going to trounce you. Now I'll give you the stats here, but they're going to make a difference. Okay, let's face it. I really I'm not expecting this game to cover by a point or two. I'm telling you straight out. Vikings win this game outright beginning to end from the first quarter to the end of the fourth. They win this game, Handley. Beginning to end. And here's why let's go into the numbers. Both teams are owned one straight up and against the spread, but the cults they could only put up 20 points against a ridiculous Jacksonville defense. They only ran the football for 88 yards and Ext Philip Rivers to do all the work. What she took it on. For 357 throwing yards 445 total yards of offense, Minnesota. On the other hand, yeah, 34 points of offense and defense that allowed 43 a defense this week. That's not allowing 43 points to the Indianapolis Colts. They got a lot out of their Russian game. 135 yards on the ground, almost 2 50 in the air for riel, Nice, balanced offense of close to 400 total yards. I'm telling you, this is a game where it's men against boys. The Colts are not going to look like what they did last week against Jacksonville. It'll be much worse for them. They get trounced in this game expect anywhere from 28 to 38 points at a Minnesota With maybe 10 to 14 out of the Indianapolis Colts, a trouncing get all over the Vikings. Easiest one of the easiest winners on the board and a dog that's winning outright plus two three guys. It pales in comparison to the game right now, a gold key release that's absolutely free on the tape recorded message. In fact, you could parlay it with the Vikings 800 for +993733 Get the winner right now between the bills and the Dolphins, guys absolutely free on a tape recorded message right now. Documented over 81% 81% Guys call that number. What you waiting for? If you haven't dialed, you need to dial right now. 800 for 993733 849 9 37 33 don't just take advantage of the Minnesota Vikings. Are they gonna win? Yeah, they're goingto win. They're going to cover But you know what? Let me make.

"Saints lost all their picks last night in a trade up for a tight end at the bottom of the third round just to give you a quick recap maybe I haven't been able to listen in the the saints in the first round twenty four overall selection center guard out of Michigan's Cesar Ruiz in the second round No picks for the saints and then in the third round the same start dealing they move up from eighty eight to number seventy four to select linebacker Zack Baun out of Wisconsin and then the bigger surprise of the night as the saints moved back into the the third round they take pick one oh five in the trade with the Minnesota Vikings they select Adam Trautman the tight end out of Dayton in order to get a trade picks one thirty one sixty nine to a three and two forty four to Minnesota and that's what leaves us here on this final day of the NFL draft with no picks that's not to say that we won't see the New Orleans Saints make a pick today this is a team that has always been very willing to to steal from next year's draft to make a pick and we'll see if they're able to do that today

Falcons could field an offense with 11 first-round draft picks

"So we had a truck a couple of signings by the Atlanta Falcons over the weekend right to pick up tight end Hayden Hurst from the Baltimore Ravens and they also acquired look Kwan Treadwell a former number one pick for the Minnesota Vikings yeah as the Atlanta falcons roster currently stands right now on offense alone just on offense they have a Levin former first round picks all of these former first round picks quarterback Matt Ryan first round pick Todd Gurley who sign when he was released first round pick Julio Jones first round pick Calvin Ridley first round pick the Quantrill first round pick Hayden Hurst first round pick left tackle Jake Matthews first round pick left guard James carpenter first round pick center Alex Mack former first round pick Chris Lindstrom the right guard former first round pick and right tackle Caleb McGary also that he first started his first round eleven is incredible let them all eleven of them a former first round pick I mean there's no way that's ever happened before right I can't believe that what ever but here's the real question if you had to redraft everyone of these players how many would be former first rounder this okay because I think this is fair Lidstrom McGarry and carpenter I've always been really what one or two years no it's been really since two thousand eleven okay yeah so let's remind me Gerry I think you were taken off or taken them out yeah okay so all of the other nine how many would be redrafted as a first round what's what's going on it's not right absolutely no question that runs for Todd Gurley no yeah I I would say no I would sit well I would say no one quite frankly his a conversation about the value of the position in general could also affect the new with him that was the thing coming out of college yes I look he has fifty eight rushing touchdowns over his first whatever seasons and all the other ones are either in the hall of Famer going let me just say six are we saying first rounder today or go back to the beginning again it would re drawing back to the beginning again because I'm currently the way Todd Gurley came out I mean would you not still take him in the first one that's the question now right are you going to pay for that kind of production from a running back anymore we saw Christian McCaffrey Leonard for net like there's been plenty examples of even a legal or not re signing a big second contract drafting a great one of the first round can still benefit you a lot okay I'm just trying to get to it you know is that what they've done in their right career does that mean where are the first roll worthy to me the girly thing is to your point he had a knee injury coming out of college and right when they signed with the red sign that long term deal with they're trying they got out of now then he was going to be chronic so to me the top group member he was the first one that airports reset the market for running backs and it turned out no he just re establish the old line of thinking but that first three years of production would you that would you spend a first round pick on that because we saw that rand's office how much in common now it always goes like this with the running game but in combination with an offense of line that did really well what you brought into what worth over would you pay for that as the foundation of your off I'm beginning to go the Melkite around here that I'm not sure running back as well because Melvin Gordon was in that same draft and Melvin Gordon is on his team I got an extreme I think that's the biggest conversation we could take out of this is the running back position record number mellow one point eighty never take a running back in the first Rana I wonder for we're slowly but surely going back to it I mean there was a contract a couple years ago with the first running back off the board was late second round out of Tennessee and I think we're going back to that after a bevy running backs being taken so we were definitely in on Matt Ryan yes we're out on Todd Gurley a legit is amazing looking back at Todd Gurley's draft class there's not a lot of got like if you're talking about reworking the top ten Todd Gurley might be the most wealthy in that group maybe outside of Amari Cooper yeah we can we can have that discussion later because that's in it read graphic I think is always fast and you have to wait a certain amount of time Julio Jones know quite well right Calvin Ridley first round too early again I think it's too early last year what he had sixty three receptions okay just under nine hundred okay seven touchdowns I would mean he also can't account for how bad that team ask me yes or no right now I'd say yes but I still think it might be too early Hayden Hurst no not because look they they took marketers later in the draft in the third round he clearly became the tight end of Baltimore which made Hayden Hurst by the way has taken in the first row before Lamar Jackson R. Jackson for Lamar starting you know tight on that team right now marketers you said right Hayden Hurst also dealt with some injuries and stuff there too that's okay in perfect sample size and when you have a guy come on like marquetry who could predict that the way that offense ended up of what he was the Mackey award winner a what he was coming home with one truck will no no Jake Matthews yes I think so I think so I think so do not I meet yeah yeah I mean yes he's been there he's been there is a second contract I also wrote a like doesn't miss a lot of games he's he's dependable yeah I think that's what it our printer are probably not I mean he's he's been a guy that's been in the league for nine years now dependable guy but we're talking about first round right you know I mean when you're twenty four we'll talk about for sure we're talking about top ten picks like a lot yeah yeah yeah I I'd probably lean toward no on that as well yeah yeah Alex Mack yeah absolutely yeah yeah and then the other than what we remember and I think Lidstrom would be headed in that direction yeah kill the guy who's more reach last year get killed the one I have questions about obviously we know the health concerns that existed before the draft earning a hard issue that he had had to deal with early in this time oxygen so there's a lot to hash out with those two but just I mean blows off the page when you just read that number the every single hundred dinners with that crew yeah what eleven Ryan still got its still on that ride to reach for the paycheck first but everyone else has to at least go for their wallets and act like there's also a common I do with you know with my dad so you got rid you got Ridley help you got got this R. Ridley Hearst links from a Gerry all still on their rookie deals you know wrecked yeah everybody else is is all for them yeah if I'm looking at yes correct so yeah they're all fascinating eleven a former first rounders on

"Radio back to the NFL some big moves Monday as the talking began Tom Brady hasn't made a decision although some of the decisions may be impacting him meanwhile we know Amari Cooper will be staying with Dallas end the bills reportedly acquiring Stefon Diggs of the Vikings for four draft picks earlier on ESPN radio on Freddie inferred Simmons giving up a first fifth sixth for a guy who has been a massive headache in your locker room for the last two years and and during a you know a playoff game wild card game against the saints when I got but ends up winning the game right exactly Kirk cousins goes to Kyle Rudolph instead of digs no no I'm not some of the game winning touchdown time out at third or those of third down conversion and and they converted and digs goes off the field and throws his helmet into the bench do it you got a first down you about winning the game were just by yourself oh wait yeah we we we we know what you're about so I don't get giving up that much to get him outside from the public but from a kid a skill standpoint I do get it I knew they would take that better back to back thousand yard seasons I mean he is a remarkable talent my problem with Gallic Biggs is in the room because when he's not being targeted he's a pain in the rear end I wonder how much of this is the findings wanted out of Minnesota so badly that he was going to act like that now I'm not trying to explain it not condoning it all in but I wonder how much a whatever led to him wanting a break wanting a divorce in the Minnesota Vikings whatever that was it could be Adam Phelan and his emergence or you want to play a Kirk cousins wait a problem Mike Zimmer whatever it was the findings have enough for Minnesota and he did everything possible verbally invent action wise to make sure that they were not going to keep him even early today when Kirk cousins got his extension the findings was not have a leader was not even Catholic high thought he said I guess it's time to get out here tell me about the Minnesota he was determined to get out of whatever led to the break I don't know what it was but he got his wish now the findings you got what you want to handle it because if you don't people gonna say you had a good thing going to Minnesota where they were building my United Phelan and that wasn't good enough for you buffalo reportedly sending four picks to Minnesota a first a fifth or sixth in twenty twenty and a fourth rounder in twenty twenty one while also getting a seventh rounder back this spring from the Vikings Diggs is in the second year of a five year seventy two million

Mark Gastineau wants his single-season sack record back

"Sack success for more casting mark Gastineau it's something that he certainly had of the NFL well the single season sack record from nineteen eighty four until two thousand one and now after keeping quiet for eighteen years he's speaking out the former jet says the single season mark should belong to him and not hall of Famer Michael Strahan destino had twenty two sacks of the nineteen eighty four season stray hand broke that mark in two thousand one against the Packers when quarterback Brett farb seem to take a dive which gave straight and twenty two and a half sacks destino was on hand he graduated strain on the field and hasn't really said anything negative about it until now Gastineau saying nothing against farmer straight and he just wants to be recognized for the record and he's surprised the NFL didn't step in what happened ESPN's ridge so many mark why now it's been eighteen years it happened and he said that you know he's sixty three years old you know you realize he's he is battling H. you know like a lot of us when we get the you know you start putting life perspective it is also had a lot of health issues I don't know if the listeners know what the market's been battling colon cancer is tested for about a year he's battled colon yeah his prognosis looks pretty good right now but he still going for additional follow up tests so I think that coupled with his age may of change things for him a little bit looking at things a little bit differently and he just wants to come out and and he feels like that should be his record any once the recognition he wants people to know that that should be his record I don't disagree with them but rich you you spoke with do you think that he understands that it's not going to be overturned at it that's not going to happen yeah I think you know that you know and I think it actually by the way we should mention that also Jared Allen former Minnesota Viking ingested Houston former Kansas City Chiefs also had twenty two stacked up to a tie with gas to know who did it in nineteen eighty four I think so and security and of course with twenty two and a half and yeah I mean they're never going to change the one little side note a friend of mine the NFL statistician he works games for an NFL team reached out to me and showed me the actual rules that statisticians go by with you know assigning sacks and technically that should not have been recorded as a staff it was no attempt to make a pass on that place so it really should have been ruled like a minus yardage for a rush and not a sack the thing is neither team the Packers or the giants filed a protest at the time so when in the book as a stack but really at the statistician pointed out by the letter of the law it should not have been a sack what is Michael Strahan has here and said anything about this yeah you know that's a really good question of the five years ago six years ago he did NFL life like it was on him you know the NFL network those those documentaries and that came up in the and I were and I re watched it and he was really candid about it and he talked about all the anguish that record has cost him because he's been teased about it and people say well as an asterisk next to it because that check last sack with a cheap one it really giving so he really opened up as to really how much you know like I said English it cost him and I know from talking to Gastineau eight which is somebody would break it I mean someone with disco pass them both and break it cleanly that way this whole issue dies and I know from watching that video with straight hair he two wishes someone would break it just to remove the shadow we circumstances that it happened first Reagan national saying he was also inspired after hearing a recent interview with Pete rose in gas and says that like rose he's trying to get what is rightfully

Super Bowl XXXIX Recap: Patriots vs. Eagles

"The game we most fans remember. Andy Reid foremost is super bowl. Thirty nine and especially how the game finished up in the last six minutes. But let's set things up here just a little bit coming into Super Bowl all thirty nine. Both the Patriots and Eagles were the best teams in their conference. Both number one seeds both had tremendous seasons. The Patriots went fourteen and two that season season as they were looking for their third super bowl title in four years. Obviously Tom Brady was just beginning his run as the greatest quarterback of all time but he'd already established himself as a two time superbowl champion. And so the odds were stacked against the eagles a little bit in the Super Bowl although the eagles were far and away the best team team in the NFC that season having gone thirteen and three really they were essentially a one loss team. They lost to the Pittsburgh steelers in the middle of the season but they had clinched the number for one seat in the conference with two games left in the season and basically didn't play anybody in the final two games and that's why they went thirteen and three. The Eagles probably could have been a fifteen in one team if they'd actually played their starters in the final two games of the season but thirteen and three is nothing to sneeze at and it was certainly good enough to get them the number one seed in the playoffs The Eagles defeated the Minnesota Vikings rather handily in the NFC divisional round and then in the NFC championship game. As you heard me talk about on the last edition of BG and memories when we took a look back at the ten greatest moments in Eagles NFC championship game. History when they dispatch the Falcons pulling away in the second in half winning that game. Twenty seven to ten on New England also had a pretty easy time in the postseason. They won their divisional round game against the Indianapolis Colts. It's twenty two three and then they won the AFC title against the steelers. Forty one to twenty seven. Bill Belichick Charlie. Weis the offensive coordinator at that time for New England Oakland and on the side. Of course you had Andy Reid calling the plays and Jim Johnson The defensive coordinator at the Blitz Happy Defensive Coordinator one of the big story lines. The the biggest story line going into Super Bowl thirty nine was of course the health of terrel owens who was hurt against the Dallas cowboys a few weeks before the end of the season He had A. He broke his leg on a horse collar. Tackle that has now been deemed illegal because of that hit but as the game started getting closer it started to appear as though Teo Jio would be able to get on the field and Tara loans for the Eagles in two thousand and two thousand four was the difference. He took the eagles from being a very very good team. Urine in your out to an almost unbeatable team That season in fourteen games really was just thirteen games because he was hurt early in that game against the cowboys he caught seventy any seven passes for twelve hundred yards and fourteen touchdowns for the eagles that season for the first time in his career. Donovan mcnabb had a true number one receiver seaver to throw the ball to but the eagles offense performed quite well whether well without Tara loans in the two playoff games but to beat the Patriots it was clear the eagles goals. We're GONNA need him and he managed to get. He managed to get back in time six weeks after surgery to repair his broken right ankle. He was on the the field for the start of Super Bowl. Thirty nine Donovan. mcnabb had his best season. An Eagle in two thousand and four mostly because terrel owens was on the outside and he and mcnabb was outstanding in two playoff wins against the Vikings and the Falcons mcnabb had always struggled in those NFC title game but he played very well against Atlanta Atlanta. One or the other storylines that Freddie Mitchell was running his mouth. He came into the game talking a lot of smack about safety Rodney Harrison telling Harrison that he he was gonna have something for him and then in the game you know Freddie Mitchell caught one pass which late in the fourth quarter and Harrison had Two interceptions as we'll get to here in just Dominica and of course the Patriots were looking to officially become a dynasty. They had beaten the rams had upset. The Rams in the Super Bowl three years before they had failed to get back to the super bowl the year after that. But in two thousand three or just after the two thousand three season they beat the Carolina Panthers and one of the most underrated super bowls in NFL NFL history. And we're looking for their third title in four years. Andy Reid looking for that first title after finally getting the Eagles back to the Super Bowl for the first time since nineteen eighteen eighty so that was the setup as the teams gathered on the field in Jacksonville Florida for Super Bowl. Thirty

Nobody's really talking about for super bowl contention. I think they are my favorite in the n._f._c. North vikings right now are ascending when i feel like no one's talking talking about them to dive into this take and some of the expectations swirling around the league this year. We're going to use one of our favorite segments. Everybody ready. This is model model jeff too. I remember to say time. I got it and rewind the tape and listen carefully <hes> the fivethirtyeight n._f._l. N._f._l. Model doesn't come out until tomorrow morning but we figured we'd give a preview to our hot. Take down listeners neo. Why don't you start off. Does our model love the vikings as much schrager de. <hes> sounds like not quite as much where we're not necessarily bullish on them to win the super bowl. We we give them a three percent chance dance which sounds really low but that's <hes> basically tied with the seattle seahawks. The atlanta falcons the baltimore ravens. It's like one percentage point behind the dallas cowboys so that basically ranks them around. Maybe like the tenth best team in the league doesn't seem low enough to me. Frankly it should be. I think it should it'd be lower yeah way when we get to a point in the season where you're all in on the viking not this year not as long as they have cousins at quarterback anyway. So who does though model has the favorite this year. This is going to surprise you guys. I know but we have the new england patriots <music> ever to win the super rhino not on the list that before <hes> we have tom brady and friends the a fourteen percent chance of winning the super bowl and the right behind them. The kansas city chiefs have an eight percent chance the eagles also have an eight percent chance the new orleans saints seven percent chance so neil. There's one big change in in this year's model along with a couple of smaller tweaks. You wanna talk through this. Yes so the big thing that we added was a quarterback adjustment. So in the past we just sort of assumed that we could figure out if there was a change to a teams underlying quality <hes> just by looking at their recent games and saying okay okay well if this team has suddenly started playing a lot worse. They're probably a lot worse but we didn't try to kind of figure out well. Is it a personnel thing and specifically as it because they've lost a really important player and so we decided to make it a priority this summer to put in ratings for every quarterback so that we can kind how to modify a team's chances of winning when say aaron rodgers goes down in the middle of the season the packers would not still be favored to win their next game and and take a few games of <hes> brett hundley <hes> starting for them for yellow to start figuring like i think something's wrong with the packers instead instead we can kind of instantaneously <hes> make a change to the prediction so that was the big one and when we were back testing it it significantly improved moved the prediction model <hes> but we also added a few other wrinkles so this year instead of using last year's indices in rating <hes> and kind of regressing it to the mean and using that as the starting rating for every team at the start of two thousand nineteen instead we are mixing that with vegas over unders unders which we turned into an eel scale and then gave two thirds weight and then gave one third wait to the regret hilo for the previous year we also added travel distance and rest so now for team has to travel a significant way <hes> to play they will be sort of extra dinged <hes> in their prediction for that if teams coming off a bye week they'll get a bonus and finally we added a factor for the playoffs because we found that favorites in the playoffs tend to win more often by wider margins than would be predicted from just you know their base yellow which is mostly based on the regular season. Do we know how much of an adjustment meant was made to the colts going from loch to perset because down here seven and nine which sounds about right but i'm just curious what they were before yes they were nine nine and seven and they were the favorites to win the a._f._c. south before andrew luck retired which we talked about last week and they dropped ninety yellow points with jacoby perset reset and so now they are projected to be in last in that division rather than i saw that one change which is something that we wouldn't have been able to account account for going into the season has ended up. You know completely flipping division. Now i should say we ran these predictions before a lot of the trades <unk> over the weekend so for instance <hes> jadeveon clowney being traded from houston is not reflected so we have houston as the favorites right now but by wednesday morning <hes> when the model arose out we'll have rerun that maybe that'll change it. Maybe it'll boo seattle. One thing we do know is that indianapolis is not going to be favored to win that division so jeff. What surprises you most about the model this year to be honest. I think it's actually how low it is on the browns. I'll be honest. I'm actually not as high on cleveland one. I think cleveland obviously is a huge amount of talent. I think they still are probably like a year away but considering at least what the public thinks of them you look at their super bowl. Odds are eighteen one actually better super bowl odds than the vikings or the packers. The cowboys which to me doesn't make a ton of sense. They're probably the one where we're most off from the general public consensus. No i think that's right. <hes> although it's funny because we kind of wrote a story about this maybe a month ago about how the browns were kind of picking up all this momentum and they were the hot team you know the baker mayfield has been on the cover of magazines. They got odell beckham. It seems like there's a lot of narrative around this team and i think a lot of it has to do with also the fact that these are the browns. You know it's like you don't you don't get a chance every year to to hype up the browns as a as a real legitimate <hes> contending team. There's also the narrative that the steelers are sort of you know on the downside. After losing being in tonio brown levy on bell didn't play for them last year but now he's officially gone and so i think a lot of things are kind of building this narrative but when we looked at just the implied ratings of these team before even ran yellow based on vegas. The browns are only the seventeenth best team. If you look at pro football focus is talent grades for each team team. The browns were only the eighteenth best team in the league so i think some of the more sort of sober cold eyed looks at at the browns that that aren't getting caught up in the hype would assess them as sort of more of an average team that might be on the rise and has more potential than it's had in a long time but maybe not getting in quite so swept up in brown super bowl mania to be honest. I think the two north divisions or the definitely the most competitive. I mean obviously the bengals are not that good but the ravens were a playoff team are interesting team lamar jackson and you know the steelers like you said and then you know going to minnesota i mean green bay should be better chicago. So you know even detroit is going to be competitive so i think those two divisions are probably what's at play whereas you look at the a._f._c. South and it's just like a wasteland hand regards the browns. I mean i don't think they're i think they're going to be a playoff team. I super bowl seems like a stretch. They're definitely the team. I'm most interested in watching week week one because i just wanna see you know sort of what that looks like with odell yeah and we give them a forty percent chance of making the playoffs so they would be. I think the third most likely team team. That didn't make the playoffs last year to join that you know there's that stat about what is it like half the teams that make the playoffs one year. Don't the next year or something like that yeah. It's usually about six. I think two years ago it was eight so it can go even higher but generally it's about half of them and it's always hard to process because if you look at you know a blank slate you're naturally going to think that the usual suspects will be back there again so it's interesting trying to detect detect like which are the teams that are going to. I mean you have to find six of them. From a year ago like bill chicago is good. You know will chargers chargers be as good. I mean they. They still pretty high odds but you know they're running. Back hasn't signed yet. If if that's a factor that's certainly not a great thing you know will the ravens be able to do it again with lamar jackson and what they're trying to do we'll vikings fall just short of playoffs. Yes probably well. We have the right theory. Three is any guide yeah and like like. I said you know if the browns are third on the most likely non playoff teams to make it back. The number one is pittsburgh. I think that's that's kind of an easy one to call and then number two is minnesota and again that one not too hard to comprehend you know and then in terms of teams most. I like the fall out of the playoffs. Indianapolis seems like a no brainer at this point and then you know houston after that clowney move we even before for that we already had them as the second most likely playoff team from last year to not make the playoffs we only gave them a forty one percent chance even though they were the favorite to win that division asian which kind of tells you about how jammed up everything was in that division at least among the non colts teams and so now you know divesting themselves of of a a top pass rusher. I know they got things in return from <hes> from miami in that accompanying trade gave a lot of draft picks for it but you know there another team. That's i think jacksonville is on people's radar as a team to move up because the now have nick foles and not blake bortles at long last and so you know maybe see that's how that division shakes up if you see houston dropping out that's how it happened so our n._b._a. Model has successfully predicted outcomes in the past neil. Oh how is our n._f._l. Model historically performed well. You know it's a little bit tough to say in terms of just looking at like does the favourite win because like our preseason favorite one last year but that was the patriots and i feel like you could just blindly pick the patriots every year for like the last two decades and have a pretty good success rate you no the eventual super bowl winner is generally has been generally near the top of our rankings and i stayed this is under the old like non quarterback adjusted non bells and whistles method did <hes> the only big exception since we've been predicting this was twenty seventeen we had the eagles ranked fifteenth before the year <hes> but <hes> i would zehr previous predictions were competent of the root mean squared error between our when predictions and actual team last year was two point seven that is okay. You know it's it's better than <hes> just something that takes last year's record regresses it to the mean which is what e._s._p._n.'s brian burke did once upon a time in a famous old blog post about how preseason predictions are worthless..

"Hey there. Welcome to hot. Take down the show or the hot takes of the sports world meet the numbers that prove them right or tear them down. Today is september third twenty nineteen and i'm sarah ziegler the sports editor here at five thirty eight. I'm joined in studio by one of my co hosts senior sportswriter neil pain female. Hey sara how are you. I'm good. How are you doing. I'm doing good. Are you refreshed. After the long weekend excited that your beloved minnesota twins have <hes> hidden up home home runs to clear the all time record all of the home runs. They're hitting them. All it is amazing and on the line from los angeles is five thirty eight contributor jeff foster. Hey jeff how are you. I'm good so as neil mentioned the twins broke. The record for home runs in a season on saturday when mitch garber you're of course hit the teams two hundred sixty eighth homer saturday in case you have forgotten was august thirty first. They're still an entire month left in the season and i don't understand how i just i will never understand the season. This came completely out of nowhere. I guess we talked about this a few weeks ago but it's also symbolic mitch garver hit it because he is like the player that among all the homerun hitters on the twins seemed least likely to randomly have a great hitting season and <hes> there are a lot of candidates on the twins for that though there are mitch governor has hit twenty six home runs in only seventy seven games. That's that's insane less than half these run every third game he blazin so how how many twenty twenty six twenty six so that's like more than a fifty two home run season pace not to pour water on your achievement and when i say you i mean the twins you don't have to you cannot this doesn't seem like record. That's going to last very long. Okay sure but they're they're on pace to hit well over three hundred. I mean they're gonna. They're gonna beat the yankees the yankees last year's record from last year. Yeah it was a long standing record by about eleven months but they're going. They're going to beat that by many many home runs. I mean probably they were on pace at one point three seventeen <hes> and also like what teams are hitting one point four home runs per game this year and there's been a lot of talk about like is it. The ball is probably the ball and might be the ball. It might be the ball. You never know the last year teams only one point one five home runs per team per game and that was down from the previous year so there's no guarantee that teams are going to hit that it's go upward next year from one point four per team per game to like one point five which would be unbelievable. It seems more likely that it will go down and kind of regress back to the already. Let's be honest ridiculously high rates of twenty seventeen and twenty eighteen yeah and also so maybe they do fix whatever's is going on with the ball in the off season. Do they really lives forever off the twins. That's fine. That's a good thing that'll be. I i mean we'll obviously hear a lot more about the ball <hes> once the findings of the committee that's been studying are out but for the moment i'm going to bask in the glow of this homerun record by the least likely team to ever hit these if he were to list them one through thirty at the beginning of the season <unk> on teams most likely to break last year's yankee home run. I don't know what do you think they would have been like twenty sixteen. I mean you ever not been discussed discussed as a contender. No not even not even close. I think they were like eighth to last in home runs last year and they only had one hundred sixty six and now are they unpaced alike almost twice that this year yeah like that's yeah. I don't know there aren't any words to describe that. I know it's it's it's it's unbelievable and they don't even have joe mauer in his six or listen. You love taking joe mauer his name him out of your mouth also this weekend in sports the u._s. open. We're finally getting down to business. They're both number. One seeds are out naomi. Oh saka lost in straight sets to number thirteen belinda bench of switzerland on the men's side. My guy novak djokovic retired with a shoulder injury in the fourth round against stan wawrinka that was really a bummer covering goes up a break in the third set after winning the first two in another data at a point that fans are the actual worst. Some in the crowd and fleshing were booing jovovich as he walked off the court with a shoulder injury. Sorry is he even a millennial. He's milano. There's a friend if we didn't think that he was before we can consult the gut leaves we oh oh okay i was like what does that have have to do with people booing him. Are people more likely to money just dug their booing millennials withdraw from playing sports before they see fit for them to write gotcha. I'm i'm there with you now but seriously what what is wrong with people. Why would you boo someone who it's not like. This was like a phantom shoulder injury that just cropped up because he was losing. He's had and he's been fighting this the whole tournament so i just come on. I know everyone wants to see good tennis but cheese. I think most most of those fans thought it was a phantom shoulder injury that cropped up while he was losing if you're watching in a guys down two sets and he's down a break in the third and then he gets injured. I mean and you're in queens. They serving alcohol. They're obviously gonna think. Maybe that's a fake injury. They're not gonna be like well all the history of shoulder injuries. It seems like a fake injury but that's why they're doing. That's all i am defending them but they paid a lot of money to go there. They're paying eleven dollars for for lemonade. They're paying a lot more than that. I've had validated. It's more than eleven dollars more than eleven dollars. It's really expensive. That's that's not possible. There was a really nice moment on the women's side on saturday after a beat fifteen year old phenom cocoa goth asaka invited gough to share her post game interview on the court and they each complimented the other asaka was <hes> very said very nice things about goff's parents they the train in the same at the same complex in florida's it was really it was just all around lovely i- i teared up a little bit. It was really nice. Well people being nice really touch. The people being good sports kevin durant said something nice about curry's parents after the two thousand seventeen western conference finals. Probably the big names are still in contention serena williams roger federer and rafael doll are still looking to win it all so so are we going to get an adult federer final that the long-awaited meeting in the u._s. open. I mean now. It's finally the past been cleared right seems like the most it's likely outcome at the moment so here's hoping by the way rule thing i wasn't totally one hundred percent on the highlights from the last match deliver sillage confirmed it. Did you see the shot where he was so far past the doubles land he hit a winner and it didn't go over the net yeah. I thought it had to go over. The net was like wait a second. You're making me rethink ten yeah. I thought the whole one of the core foundational premises of tennis is you hit the ball over over the net but i guess it just had it never come up because no one had like dared hit. That shot actually like get it in yeah. It's got to be a pretty small. Share of shot is the first time anyone has ever done that like. That's the first time i've ever seen. It's the first time i've seen it. I'm sure he's probably done it himself. Should they extend the nets all the way a pass the double slain oh. I think it should be like almost to the crowd. Don't they say well. I think they should spiritually extend them like in the n._f._l. Where that old john madden line about like the plane of the goal line extends around the whole planet. You remember going to break the plane. Okay so on today's show. We'll discuss our model for the upcoming n._f._l. Season we'll be joined by ken blackstone shortstop for the southern maryland blue crabs take a look at the effects of new technology and baseball and we'll take a deep dive into data with our rabbit hole of the week.

"Unfortunately outs is on baby duty. So he cannot join us tonight. But we're going to kick right into things here. We're going to do things a little differently on this episode. We're going to be joined by a reef Assan of the athletes covering the Minnesota Vikings and throughout this podcast, which is a little longer than normal. We're going to really get in to the details of the Vikings and the dolphins matchup on Sunday. We're going to have a conversation. So basically, a reef is our co host for the evening, and what's great about. This is a reef is going to post this very same thing on his own podcast for his Vikings dolphins preview as well. So we're going to co were going to cover all the details of the match up. We're going to give you analysis on both teams. And we're going to provide you with all the information you need to know leading into Sunday's game. So a reef thank you for joining insider radio. We're going to let you kick. Things off let you have the floor to begin. Yeah. This is going to be a lot of fun. I think I think there's like a lie, especially because you know, they're AFC teams. We don't have. In town of exposure, the other team for paying attention to the patriots people hang attention, the NFC north very alternates. Akers which probably less interesting conversation into typically now it's the bears. But I think people are not really up to things especially here in Minnesota about what's happening in Miami. Like, I think people don't have a good sense of quality that team. You know, is it a good defensive got a lot of interceptions of a yard us. Ryan tannehill plays. Yep. To play those sorts of questions. So it should be a pretty good show. I want to get get it all started by asking kind of the first question, which is in nerdy. It's going to be about the offense of line. I think over the years gotten used to the idea the Miami offensive line has been just really bad that they haven't invested a lot in it, of course, had multiple controversies surrounding it. But this past year, my sense is that it's not nearly in the place that it has been in the past the offense of line. Has improved. My my wrong about that. Is that kind of a mistake or or do they have they genuinely improved and if so how the offense of line for the dolphins right now is a complete mess. It's a complete disaster Kuka in the off season. They had worked to strengthen and paired by the moves they made on paper. They did strengthen very early injuries to Daniel Kilgore Senator guy from San Francisco after moving on for Mike pouncey, Josh sit in as well who they got. He was a great pass protector. Kill war was kind of a poor man's Mike pouncey, I'd like to say different strengths different weaknesses, and then they had Jesse Davis, and John James and Larry Thompson. So there are fantastic. And one thing you need to watch with the dolphins offensive line on Sunday. When when the Vikings faceoff is John James, and they've been using him to pull a lot more and you'll see him pulling off to the left side of the line of scrimmage did that quite often the patriots game and actually contributed to a lot of big runs from Frank gore and Kenyan Drake so be aware of that. And learn tonsil has improved greatly from his rookie season where he. Played guard then shifted to left tackle last year struggled a bit, but has really up this play. So the book ends are solid. You got Ted Larsen there? I know his name being floated around this week with the miracle in Miami. But really he's struggles quite a bit on the line and Travis Swanson, he's just another guy. He's not he's not terrible. He's not great injuries have hurt the positional up. But you know, the Vikings with the pass rush they have at times and so forth. It's going to be interesting to see how much pressure they can get on the dolphins..

"Your sports betting and your fantasy purposes and Dr show it wouldn't be a Sunday in the National Football League without some injuries to marquee players. I know pain as if you questions for you. But before we get there when we looked to Monday night football Seattle's Doug Baldwin. It's been dealing with a myriad of lower body injuries. Whether it's a hip, whether it's a growing, what do you see expectations for his productivity or even make the field in tonight's match up against the Minnesota Vikings. The normal situation. I think you'd expect him to be out. He hasn't practiced then with the myriad of injuries. Lower extremity, muscle engines were wide receiver but knowing Doug Baldwin. There's gonna be this game time decision and see what he can do if he does play. I don't see him getting his full complement of usual targets. But you know, he he's been effective on on limited practice before being veteran than he is. Dr Chow just kind of talking about some of the bigger injuries this weekend. Let's move onto Big Ben looks like a rib injury did return late in the Oakland game. Would we think about his status against the patriots next week? Well, I think that if he should be fine expecting to be limited. And maybe even this practice time this week, but with medication and rib block or whatever is needed. They're they've got good medical stuff. He's gonna play the patriots. First of all. That's always big bend Mancha. Right. He loves coming back on the Willis Reed moment. He's done it throughout his career. And you know, as I tweeted if it was something with his chest or lungs. Okay. Maybe he's gonna miss. But if it's just a rib, which is what the report was. I didn't see how he didn't come back in the second half. And I still understand why he didn't come back earlier. And how do we? Go ahead. I'm sorry. No. I don't know a coaching decision in some way. I don't know if it was a big been issue. It's medically. It doesn't make sense. If your rib is bothering you. It bothers you from the jump. It doesn't like. It continues. The body doesn't like ease up in in an hour of of standing on the sidelines in the second half. And it did seem like they were trying to quote, save him or use him as in an emergency situation. And when the raiders got up then he came into the game. And then put them ahead, but then the raiders came back. So to me that's playing with fire. Right. I mean, it's a four point game. And you leave on the sideline. What doesn't make sense to me is explanation from the head coach, which is something the effective. We were in a flow and because of the flow of the game or whatever was it's hard to get him back in the backup quarterback. I mean, they didn't put any points on the board with the backup quarterback. And I think his quarterback rating was twelve point. Oh so much. What flow? He was talking about. Twelve is a high passer rating when comparing him to Mark Sanchez, and I think we're also talking about Mike Tomlin. He leaves a lot to be desired from the coaching. There's always lots of question marks with him. Just one last thing on the Pittsburgh Steelers James Connor, which the realistic expectation for him Willie play this week. And maybe how long will this injury linger on? Sounds like we're bashing Mike Tomlin era. I'm I'm not. I mean, obviously James Connor initial report from coach Tomlin was a contusion. And then it switched to the ankle. And as it continues to potentially last it fits the Heinkel spring that we talked about last week in initially in the whole deal. What it looked like?.

"New England Patriots seven Minnesota Vikings six seven six patriots right now. All right as we're looking for a contested now in the New England area because they are the home team. So New England is what are they actually in eighty three. And the Vikings are for just six and four. I know this better six four in one, right? Yeah. Because they tied with the Packers. I six four and one that got to do something about that whole, no ludicrous ridiculous. Even during the Texas LSU gave a lot of many of the tweets outside of beating up on the referees. And going the game in these seven overtime periods were saying, hey, NFL paying watching this. Yep. Yeah. I mean, yes. That was a phenomenal game. Yes. Say what you will about the refs. And we. But but yeah, the game was great outcome. Yes. Yes somewhere. You get it up. It doesn't have to be a tie. And you know, I've heard I because my initial thing is just do it just like college does start at the twenty five. And if you score a touchdown the other team gets her chance if you score go if you if you get a field goal the other team gets their chance after after five overtimes, it has to be to to go for two or something like start at the fifty whatever it's not the hard. No it isn't that hard. I don't know why they make it seem like it is it's it's unbelievable to me ten billion dollar industry. Can't figure that out. Crazy. I mean worse case scenario have the you know, put the field goal kickers out of one kick facing the opposite field goals. Just have a kickoff. Ten twenty thirty. I wanna miss loses eleven maybe something will come around this because you know, it took forever. The NFL finally adopted the two point conversion, so maybe overtime to maybe. Grail ending tie. Ridiculous. Well, you know, what the problem is in the NFL Commissioner's is he's on like slave wages and so. He can't really work very hard because he only makes forty nine dollars a year who can make ends meet on that end. Is it forty forty nine million a year? They just gave them a raise this last contract. That's embarrassing. A terrible. That's why embarrassing. He's terrible. He's making that kinda money. Triple eight nine hundred thirty three Ninety-three as we wait for a contestant in New England. We tell you about a really good really good plan that Bill and Hillary Clinton have there on the speaking tour now the going around the country, we're supposed to come here that was part of the tour the got cancelled all they had to cancel in Texas. The original story. Nobody cares about these two original store. They were going to be here in Irving, and they made big deal about them being here. Because when they were building that the Toyota theater over here the pavilion. Yeah. That was one of those Toyota music center, or whatever it's one of the things we're going to be there after it open, and we're gonna come in November not so much. They I mean, they were half empty when they when in this auditorium. They didn't Tronto the other day. Maybe a break because it's Canada. But it's still I mean Toronto's more American than candidate, probably and. Nobody cares. Nobody cares. I including Democrats, I think about the Clintons anymore, but they're on this big speaking tour, and they they were in Montreal. And here's what they had to say about Canada. Canada has done such a good job of both managing its contemporary diversity, and it has a very interesting immigration system to and yet. And yet it's still Canada. Bill said, right. And just think that you can model the idea that you could become more diverse and still keep your culture and your values. It's it's really very good for a modern economy. The United States will have to return to that. If it expects to play a positive role in the future..

"Frozen tundra of that human mind on what continent can you? Find mount Rushmore. American. Of infinitessimal intellect will collide in a cloud of glory. What is the largest planet in our solar system? Gladiators capable of turning a minor incline in unscaled summit. What does the s in TSA stand for? Yes is for travel. Versus game with. Versus gold. Versus moron in an epic battle of nippy. This is more on trivia. Good morning American. Welcome to it. It is more on trivia. Today's match up the Minnesota Vikings versus New England Patriots. And here's our Commissioner. Fisher tell you how the game works. Well, this is where we predict the outcome of a particular NFL game. And obviously as pet said the game is the Minnesota Vikings taking on the New England Patriots in by we predict the outcome of the game. We don't predict the score of the game. We're ten wins and one loss to LA. Breath about the second one. And we call the particular cities Minnesota area New England area, which would be the Boston ish area. Call convenience stores in those areas and ask them four questions of quarter. We played four quarters just like a football game. And the city that answers the most questions correct wins the game. It's just that easy as just that easy. All right. So it it is nice that we've got New England. 'cause like that that's a lot of territory. You know, doesn't have to be Boston specific it can be anywhere in New England. Connecticut could be New Hampshire could be Vermont. We might even reach deep down, South Carolina. And then Minnesota encompasses. Does not just Minneapolis. We got that going for us today. And yet still no no testing got sour patch kids to as become sort of traditional lightness on more on trivia day. But and that's really good for us. Especially in the morning fruit pisses me off, I just sour patch kids tricksters. That's not funny looks like one might taste like another. I don't want that. If I pick out an orange one takes orange. I don't want it to be a white one or a blue. That's why I didn't get the white or blue right? I wanted to orange that is a terrible terrible mistake. I don't know what you're doing. If you're. No. It's not tricky. It's not funny. It's not right. It's wrong. And I want you to stop in your mouth, you actually look and see which flavor you're putting in sometimes. Yes. Yes. Are you not picky about what color are you pulling out of here? I'm not I love them. All. Just start eating them. That's the way. Look, usually you like that. But when you purchase tricksters, you just have to not look, I guess, I guess here here, you're getting strawberry on this one. Trevor is might be good water Bill. Yeah. As long as we're we're still waiting. I did have a story here that we can talk about this. I don't want you to cry. I want you to danger of that possible. Really? Okay. Murphy Brown that television shows not turn for a second season. Oh, yeah. Story low ratings. All right. We have Jess in New England New England, just yes. Pie high area. I'm good. Thanks for asking you really concerned or you just make small talk. Just concerned. Feeling some of that from you just just we're gonna ask you for quick questions. If you don't know the answer, just take a guess, you can't ask anybody for help. Okay. Okay. All right question. Number one. What a child reaches a certain age, their parents may have a discussion with them about the birds and the. B's read. About the bell. There. My little bell. Okay. Question to think about a globe. What is the name of the imaginary line that separates the northern and southern hemispheres waiter. Wow. Just you are on fire. And so go. Okay. Number three. What is the bottom of shoe called? Exactly, right. And question number four. What does the M in MTV stand for? Music. Oh my gosh. You you're like a rocket scientist, something, right? Are you do have like a? Doctorate degree from some major university Yale. I it's it's from the university that you're really not supposed to talk about. 'cause then you gotta kill people. Really, really? What are we talking to you at the space station? MIT? All right. Just your perhaps our findings contest you..

"Um the interior guys have to do a great job the linebackers up to do a good job oppressing and the d ends after do a great job so really takes everybody to stop a guy like bell now now i'd say he's he's unbelievable he's a lot of fun to watch what a great game that'll be weak fifteen of hindes field patriotssteeler is probably for the number one seat in the afc we're going to get the nfc here lots to get into with this and it's about the philadelphia eagles having the best record in the nfl attended one the fact is you have the role and saints you have the minnesota vikings if you want to throw the la rams into this conversation we can't as well you look at the talent there which team rob do you think the eagles have to fear the most in their nfc run to the super bowl well they're going to be the number one seed they're gonna have homefield advantage so if if you look at it i'd i'd say minnesota's probably only team that that would give them trouble um they have a good defensive front um they have good linebackers uh and their offense is playing pretty good so you know and and they travel and they're going to go to an outdoor stadium um and they can practice in the cold so that's one thing you're not really gonna have the advantage of is say you play new orleans in philly when it's cold and there are don't team you know even though minnesota's at don't team they plan side you know they have the luxury of okay let's practice outside all week you know and it's going to be colder in minnesota than it is in philly um so you could take you could look at it that way so i'm thinking that that that championship will probably b at at philly versus minnesota yeah now it's true it and minnesota also plays in a north so they do have to outdoors when they face most the team their division meanwhile future breeze in the saints you play in tampa okay that's nice 80degree weather regardless of in the year you go to atlanta it's a dome environments also warmer weather climate any carolinas' get exactly cold so pretty much every game that drew brees is going to play for the most part it's going to.
