"And I don't know if that is because they don't have a manual Renault so that is kind of given a free role. The team was always around Renault so everything was built through and also. So didn't love defending. I mean, what attacker does? Robin load has slotted into that number ten position. I think he's done a really good job. I mean, he's very underrated within Major League Soccer. He's one of my most favorite players, not even because he plays four Minnesota United. So I think they do have a couple more pieces. That I know that they are looking for without, you know, getting a divorce from my husband was saying it on this show or without getting fired from Major League Soccer. So there's a lot of moving pieces. So I'm going to leave that to Tom for all the breaking. A lot of talk about marriages and divorces and lack there outside. I think if your family is listening to this, this is a very good segment that everything rock solid went good. Yeah, this is a relationship advice column as well if you didn't know that soccer and relationship advice. But yeah, I think this Minnesota side is let's just be honest. One of the I think four teams that have made the playoffs in the last 5 years, very difficult to do in Major League Soccer. They just haven't been able to go farther in the playoffs. They are for me still missing, you know, a goal scoring threat. I think, you know, you look at Garcia, he's done okay since coming in, getting his goal. Last game to build that confidence, he's got to continue to push forward with that. But hey, Minnesota, I'm the last cup champs. Here we go, baby. Putting down their hard hats. Finding a way, I will say Miguel tapioca is one of the signings that sort of went under the radar. This off season that was a really good move for them as well. And he's helped with voxel. He's helped with boxo, 'cause I think boxo for me was one of those players that switched off in big moments and gave up some goals defensively just with his positioning and he's looked like old Michael boxo when he first came in to Minnesota. Sorry for cutting you off. No, no, topey has got the winner and talking about the winner, and then look, it's Ariana Grande rosales in front of them. So

"He looked like Sergio cordova, which to me doesn't sound good, but to Doyle sounds great. So I of the beholder. Amanda Garcia looked like a goal scoring striker for Minnesota United. No one knows so who apparently sits a good luck message to his teammates ahead of this, but as chosen not to come to preseason and now the start of the regular season, we will see if he ever shows back up from Minnesota. That's a pretty big TV at this point, but vinegar Garcia gets the goal in Minnesota and I didn't go to Dallas and when that is both thrilling for Minnesota United, but also has to be hugely hugely disappointing Doyle for FC Dallas. Yeah, FC Dallas looked like the bad version of FC Dallas that we saw too often last year where everything is static. And they don't get numbers into the box. They play in a really precise way. And when they can move the pieces on the chessboard and the way they want, they're really, really tough to beat. But there are times when they open up gaps, and they're just not instinctive about exploiting them. That's number one. Number two is the only guy who's ever sort of attacking that space in behind the back line. Is Paul areola. The last guy doesn't do it. His or Ferreira doesn't do it. It can make them, it can make it very comfortable to play against them. And I don't think they ever made a Minnesota side that's influx that's working in a new center back that just cut the guy who was supposed to be their starting right back. Like the day of the game, like they never made this team uncomfortable. And that's not totally out of the realm of what should be expected of FC Dallas. And I do wonder if Nico estevez is going to figure out going to have to figure out a way to spice it up. Is Jesus him and as a guy that can change any of that? I don't think so.

"One of the great moments in MLS history. Thank you. And he had the assist too to be dead for the game tangle. Which by the way, so pass the fact that he's a legend now. He's been loud in his best player the last two years, and the thing about him is he covers the most ground in every game, and he does a little bit of everything. And that's why they love him. His ability, they often play him out wide, but he comes inside, but his ability just drive and drive and drive at teams. And so you see it in the assist and the goal. And I think he would be even more effective as a starter as his career goes along because of his fitness. Seems like dedicated is a good nickname, too. It's a great nickname. Yeah. Seems like Wayne is going to be playing a number of kids as we say. 33 or 16. That's it. Either you're either 33 or you're half that. All right, give it to me, Doyle. What do you like? Demure cry lock being back, scoring a banger. I'm not a banger, but like a really nice goal for him after missing. He called it, he called it a go lasso in the green room. So Diego calls it a gloss so I think I'm gonna go with them. I like to try so hard not to disagree. Zhao polo being back, I thought he was excellent last night. Brad guzan and miles Robinson being back. Miles struggle a little bit. I thought guzan was pretty good in that game and hasani dots and coming back as well for Minnesota United. These are guys who basically missed all or most of last season. You never know how with injuries that are that significant, how guys are going to look upon return. But all of them, I'm not going to say we're perfect across the board, but really, really encouraging. And I like to see that.

"Ryan gibi from union Omaha signed and taken by Minnesota United after losing to union Omaha last year. So if you want to follow that track. Is there joy though? Was just that one thing because maybe I'm again over indexing. Yeah, that's true. I really do like the fan culture. And he said, he needs a good culture, good people. So that part, that part checks the box. Yeah, we debate on the joy. I can't in good conscience tell someone not to root for their hometown team. Like most of these were people who were midway through, or halfway between two locales. So you could assign them did you say he was in D.C.. From Virginia. But I don't think he's hometown team is Richmond. I guess that's far enough away, but if he was. He just gave D.C.. So here's the thing. No, he said he's a D.C. fan back in the old days, right? Back at the start of the league. So he got to experience the highest heights that any team in the league has experienced. And now he can't take a couple of years of pain. I don't think this guy deserves joy already. Oh my gosh. Stick with D.C. for God's sake. I would say, by the way, Matt Turner was still in the league, richman kickers connection. You could have gone New England revolution. And then you have the old Bruce, the return to Bruce. You have Carlos yield. There's joy in that. Yeah. But there's not joy in the fact that they've ever wanted lost cup. So that's less joyful. We have D.C. from Doyle, and I guess we'll take some, we'll take some suggestions from outside to help Mike find his team. 'cause yeah, I'm Orlando, I think could have some joy this year? No. He's a D.C. United fan. He doesn't get the change it because they're bad. Well, Mike, you're no longer adrift in the bay. Doyle has tethered. Doyle has chained you to the dock in the nation's capital. Listen, not allowed. Poor moss wishes, thanks for everything you do. And Doyle just poor guy. Let me just let me give Anders his moment and say, last year, we went to Seattle to root for MLS and CCL, and it was quite joyful and fun to root for Seattle for one day as a person who doesn't. So it can be a cool experience if you lean into it. All right, sounds like it sounds like D.C. it is and hey, maybe this year with Wayne and the boys and Christian benteke, Golden Boot challenger, according to cherry blossom shirt. Yeah, there's a lot to like. There's a lot in this attending games in person at the stadium with the club that you are supporting, nothing better than that.

"You know who might not be running it back though? Minnesota United, there's a statement that they put out a minute of reynoso has been suspended without pay by Major League Soccer for failure to report to pre season training. We have no additional information beyond that at this time. They've been freaking out. In Minnesota, and rightfully so, where are we at with this Doyle? It appears we're at nowhere with it, which is shocking to me because well, last week, I think it was last Monday's show. I came out and I said, what I expect to happen is that, you know, he'll say, it was a Thursday. I said, I think he'll report with ten days left. And he'll play 30 minutes the first week and 35 the second week and the third week he'll play 65 minutes and everybody will be grumbling, then we'll have the international break and come back and it'll be a 90 minute player and everybody by May will have forgotten that this has happened. But I nosed around a little bit, talked to some folks at Minnesota United. They're really not happy with him in Renault has been a handful since day one. He's not an ideal type of leader in terms of what you want to build your team around. Obviously on the field, he has been mostly spectacular, though he had, you know, not as good a year last year as I think we could have asked for. He's been on the field mostly like the type of guy that you would build your team around. Off the field from day one, he has been, you know, he's mercurial. But they've always been able to live with that. They've always been able to say, yeah, that's him, but it's worth it because of what he brings us. There is a level of frustration and disappointment around this player. That has, I have never heard from Minnesota folks before. And again, I'm talking people at the team. This is really tough. It does not look like it's going to work out happily. I suspect still that he will find a way to come back to Minnesota and then that staff will do what they can to smooth things over because the team is literally built around him. But it feels like some bridges are damn near burned at this point.

"That midfield to be honest with you, is going to have too much for NYC FC. Atlanta to share this in The Bronx and make it a winter a further discontent. For NY CFC fans. That's a tough one to call. I'm glad you had that one not me. I don't know. I'm going on just just the names in the attack engine. Just look at them. And NYC FC are a little bit beaten up in the center of the park. You know, it's not rocket science. So that was the early game on Sunday November 21st. The later game 5 30 out west another four verse 5 another one tough to call. Number four, Portland. Number 5 Minnesota United FC. Minnesota swept the season series. Loons have actually been a brutal opponent for the timbers in their brief history. It's been like since the April of 2018, I believe, it was the last time that Portland beat Minnesota. But Portland come in riding a three match win streak to end the season, Sebastian Blanco, of course, has been back for them a player that they did not have. I think in any of their meetings against Minnesota this year. So that could have been some way contributed to Minnesota's success against them. And he's been in good form, too, he scored a couple goals two weeks ago when Portland clinched the number two spot in there went against rail Salt Lake. It's tough to call. It's tough to call. Timber scored 14 more goals than Minnesota this season, but by the same token only real Salt Lake conceited more goals than the timbers did among playoff teams. I don't know. Maybe it's a three game winning streak. Maybe it's their history of success and knockout tournament play. An unconfident one nil to Portland for me. That's what I'm saying. That is you just siding with history right there. That's all this is. Well, I think highly of Portland. I do of Minnesota as well. Yeah, and they're at home. It's not easy. I mean, look, the four first 5 matchups are going to be tough. And so it's kind of a coin flip. So I'm going one nil, but who knows? It could be extra time. It could be on penalties. It's going to be a tough one. All right, I'm up again, JJ Tuesday, November 23rd, 8 o'clock p.m., number three Nashville, SC. Against number 6 Orlando city SC, so I was reading topher Adams on the mainland Orlando city blog and he made a good point about kind of what a lot of these playoff games boil down to. Your star players coming up big and making that big play. I mean, a lot of these matchups are tight, and it comes down to that. Last year, raul Rui Diaz, we've seen it with. So you look at Orlando and you think, okay, Nani, Pereira. These are players with the quality to do those kinds of things, but they've both been in lengthy relatively poor runs of form, Nani with just three goal contributions since the start of September. Pereira with just two assists in September, not good enough. And it's true Darryl DK's been in red hot form. But Nashville has some players in good form as well. For one, look at Nashville they haven't lost at home all season, which is incredible. This is going to be in Nashville. That place is going to be packed. Should be a great atmosphere..

Unfortunately, that was a replay. The audience is not watching the replay, John. They have no idea that there was a replay going on. If you listen, really? Susan makes a noise. "Longer with us anymore. Could I Die? Scott Johnson from power lines running the board now Appreciate it. Thousands. Your rodeo queen now. Rob doors. The rodeo queen robbed Orson studio with this as well. But yeah, as we dive into this, the story and a hat tip to this was Deanna Winter again, right? She was a prison. Yes, Gina Winter was the first one in Minnesota reformer to to talk about this. The other outlets have picked up on it as well. Minneapolis City Council members accused mayor of skirting the law with the got contractors. A lot of details that we want to Share with you before we knew that though I'm interested to go around the room and Scott Johnson, we'll start with you. And then and then you, rob. Um what do you think? Where do you think at the moment? That Minneapolis is heading based off of what we know. We still have. 38th and Chicago closed down the autonomous zone is still there, apparently and rob. Maybe you can give some more details. In a moment. There's kind of there continues to be a push and pull in uptown in the closing of the streets there, where where Winston was was shot by that task force. So, Scott, Where do you What do you seen? As you know, the next year or six months of Minneapolis? Where do you think we're heading? Well, we'll get some clarification, I guess in the elections that are scheduled for this year, But what strikes me right now is is the level of paralysis in the city that the George Floyd thing is just a classic example. It would be great to have a voice of institutional civic responsibility like the Star Tribune. Uh, exercising its responsibility under these circumstances, but that the George flirts George Floyd Square law enforcement what has been delegated to this nonprofit octopi that's run by former gang bangers who have not been able to do the job. They were asked to clear the area. They cleared it, and and it's been taken over and closed again. What about the people within who live within that that four block area there left to the tender mercies of the agape a group? How does that work? What? And who's saying anything about it? It's just apparently it goes on day after day, and, uh and and silence is golden. It really is sick. Rob, What do you think we're heading right now, and he's going to stay like this for a while. Or do you think they'll eventually get stuff? You know, open back up again. I think, eventually it it's going to get there. The the catalyst for that. I'm not quite sure I'm not sure if it's going to be the you know, enough of the residents and businesses coming together and actually suing the city, uh, to get it back open. I don't know if it's going to be Just people. Eventually, people grow tired of this, or there's a new, shiny object that they gravitate towards. Uh, so yeah, Something's going to happen, but I don't know how long it will be or or what that catalyst will be. But it's hard to say we had an interesting honor affair. Conversation yesterday, talking about the entities in in downtown and He had the twins, you know, and you mentioned it on the air because you went to a game on on Friday last week, but commentary from other individuals concerned about going downtown when the Vikings get underway. I'm wondering what kind of impact that's going to have. And if there are conversations going on behind the scenes, saying, We've got to figure something out soon, because we just have people coming down for the twins, But as things open back up, there's potentially more people and a lot of people don't want to go downtown. Right now. The sports franchises carry a lot of weight. I mean, you know, they throw around a lot of weight, and they should Obviously, I mean, they're important and they drive people to the city. They drive economic activity to the city. Uh, I don't know. I mean, I have not heard that they are throwing that weight around. Would be shocked. If they're not. I would be very shocked to learn that there have been no no. There's been no outreach from the twins or the Vikings or the wild or the Timberwolves or the links or even Minnesota United or any of these organizations to local government leaders and state government leaders, saying guys You're killing us. You know where we we? We need fans. We want fans are concession workers need fans. I mean, there are thousands and thousands of jobs that depend on that economic activity that surrounds these sports franchises. And if there if those sports franchises are not using their leverage To pressure walls and pressure Fry and pressure Carter and anybody else in that chain of command that that that that, can you then I would be I would be shocked and incredibly disappointed. I don't know if the sports franchises are feeling the hurt yet, though, because what could be there? Still, I mean, like, I'm going to our first United game of the season on Wednesday and there at half capacity Still, well, that's that's in Midway, ST Paul. So it's a little bit outside of the craziness. But Godspeed Yeah, yeah, no. Still got to get their hyper paradise. I know where I know where that is. Godspeed, sir. Fair enough. Fair enough. Uh, but the, uh so I don't know if they're really feeling the hurt, but I think once their full capacity if there are still people who are reluctant to go to Twins games, or they're reluctant to go to Vikings give because of what's going on. I think you're going to see a very sharp increases the pressure from these franchises. I would hope so. How many people are like me who are mad at the Twins for sanctifying? George Floyd? Uh, And putting a minor league team on the field. In the meantime, I mean, it's the other. Yeah, it's hard to sort out. You know your bad there the the reason for the pathetic size of the crowds with the return to attempted return to normalcy downtown. Well, they don't have. They're not going to have to what Rob was saying. They're not going to have the cover of covid anymore. I mean, they have the cover of Covid last year..

"And and we see that with the with with the With minnesota united being known as the loons so it can work. But you already are called the crew. It's it's it's more of a it's more of again. Mls gist seems to do these types of things that kind of a race history and kinda lake. Kinda why oh. We were not known as we're not officially now known as the columbus career now columbus You know. I don't know it's it's i can understand the thinking behind it in a certain sense but the execution is poor to do it in the middle of these. I know you're building a stadium but to do in the middle of the year is also bizarre. here's here's my here's my your one piece on it. They fixed it already. So the only thing that was weird about the kambas crew was the hard hat guys like that that is there is some people think that looks cool and i happened to be one of the. That is kitschy in kinda kinda interesting at least but they fix that already they did. They did basically generic german. Ask chris and that that the name was in the problem. And also everyone's gonna call the crew forever. Yeah always is just this is just a non-paper move it's just. It's it's just inspiring. I don't normally when you when you do this. You're thinking about a you. Want to draw on new segments. That were turned off by the old name. Be on a whole bunch of new merch with the with the new logo on it. And i knew either. Those things like no one wasn't wasn't going to crew games because of the name and the logo the new one. They were not going because the stadium was not downtown. I believe. I think that that is true. The the the scoreboard would catch on fire. Who knows potentially a a a a life hazard risk to go to a game there. That's why it wasn't because of the name and to everybody's pissed about this. No one's going to buy this new stuff like it's just not going to happen. I just it seems like a miss on both fronts and you talk about. Like what dc did i know i know there are certain segments of the of the fan supporter group that hate the new logo. Think it looks terrible. I think it looks. I love it. I think i think it's a it's a. It's what you do if you want to properly refresh your logo and not each still. The spirit of the old logo is still very much there you can. You can see the old parts of the logo. They kept that. Were good parts of the logo. They just said gonna it kind of a fresh coat of paint. We're going to get rid of the soccer ball..

"You're tuned into the war blues on three community radio. That gorgeous track that. You heard that. I was dancing around to like a maniac in this room was. Don't you worry by electric fields from their two thousand and sixteen ep in moss spot. I n a so the long easter weekend. Which i'm still celebrating. I spoke to bob. Hawke sayyed alkyl back to introduce themselves but before we do. I want everyone to read their article and new generation of australian war criminals in mention quarterly. It's an essay that got bob hawke trolled and unfairly attacked by certain australian publications all because but bach dead to comment. On the barrington report. Barrington report is a report that outlined allegations of war crimes committed by soldiers serving with australian defence force before burbach shares. What the experience was like in the second half of our interview We want to first of all. Get to know. Becca be who is incredible person that i was so lucky to chatter. Bobek i. I'm a writer editor. On an artist. I kind of previously was a social worker youth worker And still in some capacity. I feel like. I'm involved in his goals. In like community initiatives But like bit differently. Now because i'm not organizationally bound up in a way that wasn't a post on. Which has its pros and cons. I think And yeah and then. I'm currently On a on a novel and as well as just like writing things here and there as well. Wow okay you'll pretty busy. I'm surprised you were able to squeeze in. Bob not gonna lie okay. So let's stop from the beginning like us your third culture kid. I'm not sure if you refer to yourself as such but you've moved around quite a bit where were you born. And how many places have you called home. i think i like the time if they're culture kid. I think you know. It's like one of many second constellation of terminologies unlike phrases that we try to use to approximate some sense of our complex selves right. So i think it's a good one to add to the toolkit yes. I was born in perth In a very tiny afghan community that existed there. We want the first families that moved To perth specifically chain migration So my uncle was the very first And brought along and so they over the decades more and more afghans have gathered there But it's still very small community Especially compared to the you know western sydney And dandenong communities in melbourne and sydney on on the east coast which which are way So i think really early on developed to a strong kinda of like insular island mentality where you kind of acutely aware that you are in short supply in a place like And then and then. When i was For high school. Back when i was about twelve thirteen Moved to the states To kind of be closer to My mom's side of the family To yeah in in virginia as much bigger african community Suddenly i was kinda thrown into a very different a setup where like public school. Everyone's have kind of an. It was cool for different reasons. I mean and i definitely prefer it that way in the sense of like finally being around people and not having that like weird outsider Suddenly like you know in a place like this even though it's kind of still we're not like a major city elements just one of those places like that for for whatever reason A lot of immigrants of of from from afghanistan have gathered. you know It's kinda like michigan. Like loads of arabs in michigan list of somalis in minnesota united. It's like weird and not clear. Exactly why or how it happened. But like it's cool that happened We kind of formed their communities all around. And yeah and then. I came back to australia for a unique when i was eighteen. came back to melbourne so Did you need a couple of more years than building My kind of like artistic practice on a ride early practice. And then i move back to america two years ago You know what. I found interesting. Is i my family. We came here in ninety two so it was my sister and my mom and my youngest sister haven't been born yet so i grew up in melbourne a muslim school. But i always wondered if i had grown up around like other somalis because there weren't that many of us in melbourne at that time in the early nineties i was wondering we had been raised in london or in the us in minnesota. As you said up to the somalis minnesota. I was wondering what my life had been better. And so i ask that question to you because you sort of did touch on that With things a lot easier when you found other afghanistan. I mean it's complicated but i think in some degree in some ways for sure like just having that Legibility you know where it's like. My cousins dislike are everywhere but like at the same time the flip side of that is that you know it means that you know. My uncle's taxi drivers pretty much. Said like suddenly like level of surveillance right. Like if you're out walking around with friends during the mole suddenly like this auntie or that hunting sawyer Travels around like you know the grapevine how it is so so there better be people you get before you even reach your mom's got a few calls you like what the hell iowa and i'm walking around see you i swear to god as you need to make use of the on in let me god i pray that they denver figure that out because if they do they'll be too powerful powerful and its sell us out quick no shade. But i don't want to go there so So as we've said you've moved quite a bit and it sounds like you know there are pros and cons to being around community. Has this made you think differently about what community means. What belonging means other questions that you think about For sure fisher. I feel like so much of the dilemma of of course being third culture kid rise. You're constantly striving or Like trying to find that like alternate place of belonging or that like ritual practice or group of people you can finally breathe easy with but unfortunately like the hajr is about it is the there's no resolution there's ultimate final place final resting bites. You know where where everyone around you will will fully understand those parts of you feel that when i was in australia. I always felt like really weirded out that like people didn't quiet Like all this time.

"I mean i think i think you softened up my take a little bit but i don't think either of us one of those things. It's either the best thing about this. Podcast matt of the worst thing is. We almost never like really strongly disagree. I think we both essentially agree to to the the the principle that yego rubio is all right if you have nothing else like he's like he's like is he. The worst striker major league soccer no was. He is bad at passing the ball. Kyw kamara is upgrade over chi. Yes you know. He's a he's a he's upgraded guy. He's not as bad passing the ball. Is he worth a little over. Three hundred thousand and it's a little bit harder question to answer. I think both of us are a little less comfortable with that will. Do we really. Would we really like a better striker. Yes that's i. Think the ultimate kind of concluding thought for this. And so i guess the question we have that point mark comes from our good friend. Jeff casimir at j. three ask. Here's a question given current rosters for which other teams would diego rubio starter. And so i'll answer this. I mark because i did a little bit of prep. And then i'll let you answer it. And i think this just further highlights the point that we made. I think there's a bunch of really bad teams and mls that missed the playoffs. That would love to have diego. Rubio at what it would cost to pay him and acquire him from the colorado rapids. I think there's a bunch of really good playoff teams upon which he is comfortably. Not a starter. So let's just look at the western conference for example mark sporting kansas city. Seattle sounders portland. Timbers i do not think diego rubio's a starter on any of those teams. I think there would be an injury or something else. Advantageous for him to get more than a thousand minutes on that and that just kind of goes back to where those clubs are where they spend their money. What they're looking for a striker and just if you need further evidence. Cc when rubio was a bench player for sporting kansas city when they were roughly in the same place in the table. I i hesitate to put minnesota united in their mark but that is mostly a positional issue. Just because of the striker situation that befell adrian heath and the loons at the end of the season but also adrian heath like falls in love with the striker and then wants to get rid of him nine months later. So if you're talking about like let's bring in diego rubio who do a bunch of good stuff really. Well they'll try to sign a dp in the summer and then they'll be look into ship. Diego rubio off at the trade deadline next fall. So that's a bit of a weird situation that we can't compare. I don't think that he'd be a started all l. Afc though i do khimki would fit in culturally with the team. If he did different things. I think he's too similar. To what in principle wanna tries to both off the ball in the box that i don't think he would fit in but i think he would be a comparable replacement for what they've gotten for wando just in terms of on the field standpoint to say nothing of the marketing leadership and emotional soul component..
