"He looked like Sergio cordova, which to me doesn't sound good, but to Doyle sounds great. So I of the beholder. Amanda Garcia looked like a goal scoring striker for Minnesota United. No one knows so who apparently sits a good luck message to his teammates ahead of this, but as chosen not to come to preseason and now the start of the regular season, we will see if he ever shows back up from Minnesota. That's a pretty big TV at this point, but vinegar Garcia gets the goal in Minnesota and I didn't go to Dallas and when that is both thrilling for Minnesota United, but also has to be hugely hugely disappointing Doyle for FC Dallas. Yeah, FC Dallas looked like the bad version of FC Dallas that we saw too often last year where everything is static. And they don't get numbers into the box. They play in a really precise way. And when they can move the pieces on the chessboard and the way they want, they're really, really tough to beat. But there are times when they open up gaps, and they're just not instinctive about exploiting them. That's number one. Number two is the only guy who's ever sort of attacking that space in behind the back line. Is Paul areola. The last guy doesn't do it. His or Ferreira doesn't do it. It can make them, it can make it very comfortable to play against them. And I don't think they ever made a Minnesota side that's influx that's working in a new center back that just cut the guy who was supposed to be their starting right back. Like the day of the game, like they never made this team uncomfortable. And that's not totally out of the realm of what should be expected of FC Dallas. And I do wonder if Nico estevez is going to figure out going to have to figure out a way to spice it up. Is Jesus him and as a guy that can change any of that? I don't think so.

"You know who might not be running it back though? Minnesota United, there's a statement that they put out a minute of reynoso has been suspended without pay by Major League Soccer for failure to report to pre season training. We have no additional information beyond that at this time. They've been freaking out. In Minnesota, and rightfully so, where are we at with this Doyle? It appears we're at nowhere with it, which is shocking to me because well, last week, I think it was last Monday's show. I came out and I said, what I expect to happen is that, you know, he'll say, it was a Thursday. I said, I think he'll report with ten days left. And he'll play 30 minutes the first week and 35 the second week and the third week he'll play 65 minutes and everybody will be grumbling, then we'll have the international break and come back and it'll be a 90 minute player and everybody by May will have forgotten that this has happened. But I nosed around a little bit, talked to some folks at Minnesota United. They're really not happy with him in Renault has been a handful since day one. He's not an ideal type of leader in terms of what you want to build your team around. Obviously on the field, he has been mostly spectacular, though he had, you know, not as good a year last year as I think we could have asked for. He's been on the field mostly like the type of guy that you would build your team around. Off the field from day one, he has been, you know, he's mercurial. But they've always been able to live with that. They've always been able to say, yeah, that's him, but it's worth it because of what he brings us. There is a level of frustration and disappointment around this player. That has, I have never heard from Minnesota folks before. And again, I'm talking people at the team. This is really tough. It does not look like it's going to work out happily. I suspect still that he will find a way to come back to Minnesota and then that staff will do what they can to smooth things over because the team is literally built around him. But it feels like some bridges are damn near burned at this point.

"Struggles with what's going on off the field and everything in Portland is immersed. And I think it's too much for Gio Salvador and those men. And Gio started tinkering last game. It was going to literally play every single game start every single game of the season, and the last game of the season are second last game of the season. Against LAFC decides to sit up and they end up getting beat by LAFC and regulation time. I'm going with Portland out on this one. I just think it's too much. And Minnesota, on the other end. Minnesota haven't won in their last 6. They've only managed to get one point in those last 6, okay? They've only scored two goals in that stretch. It's a stretch that equals the worst stretch in Minnesota franchise history. They've lost the teams like route saw Lake outside the playoff line right now. Sporting Kansas City who dropped four on them and San Jose just recently. This would be a fracasso of ra castle's for Adrian heath. From Minnesota United. For where they were at the beginning and middle of this season to now. This skid right now, if I were Minnesota, if I were Adrian heath, I would be very nervous. Adrian heath and Minnesota United have never been your favorites, Turk, let the record show Minnesota. You got them in the crosshairs yet again here on what is called America. Portland and Minnesota United are going to be the two teams to miss out. I agree with you to some extent, but not entirely. I think Portland is going to miss out. But I think Minnesota will win their game. I'm going with the basics, right? I'm kind of going with the home teams here. Minnesota at home in a must win against Vancouver team, they're not much better than, but marginally better

"Listener of this podcast, Paul risdale. He tweeted us to say Minnesota United FC or 8 two in one in the last 11, best in MLS. We deserve a mention. There you go, you got your mention. Right, you do deserve a mention loans up to third now in the west, but here's what's good about it. They have a really tough schedule to end the season. So this is why what they've done here is so good. I think since the end of June, they've got the most points of anybody in MLS. They fattened up. That is what good teams do. You gather up those points because you've now given yourself a little bit of a margin for error. We know how tight the race is in the Western Conference. So good for them. They got themselves into good positioning here and it feels like you're looking at a playoff team. And I got to say too, I've mentioned this guy before, but Emmanuel Renault, so he'd be on my short list of players that I enjoy watching the most in this league. He's one of Andrew's people. He's heating up, putting in goals now, though not this past weekend, but his passing is incredible. Adrian heath has been on him to shoot more. But Jim suhan, who had a piece, I think it was in the star tribune, wrote about Renault, so he said no matter how many goals he scores or no sos artistry will be in his deft touch pass. Sometimes with the outside of his foot, that looks innocuous until the ball skips past defenders and into open space where only his teammates can reach it to pass better than Renault so you need to use your thumbs. And that's not allowed. Nope. It means only he can do it. He's a great player. So there you go, Paul risdale. Minnesota, United FC, props to him. One more break. We'll come back. We got a mailbag. It's a good mail bag. You got to come back from the mayor. And you've got things that you saw on the Internet. I have a couple as well. I only put one in. Just I had a whole lord. I'll actually mention another. Okay, so you do have more than one. I have two. All right. So we've got all that still to come here on cutoff side. Closing it out here. On the podcast this week, don't have too much to say about it, but

"It's honestly, Andrew, it's like playground stuff. The way he twists for united defenders, including Michael Carrick. He was, he was Liverpool. He played Liverpool. Everything of that era was Suarez. The whole game plan was Suarez. Amazing. Amazing. I sometimes feel like because maybe he didn't quite have the longevity there that some other primarily greats had within the league. I sometimes feel like his dominance gets a little bit forgotten when we go back and think of the great I think so. Yeah. But let this serve as a reminder. He was ridiculous. He was completely ridiculous. Outrageous. Absolutely. What's our last item in this segment before? The segment that everyone wants to sweet, sweet, gentle Everton. JJ, so we were actually recording while the Minnesota United FC destruction of Everton was going on. So we weren't able to comment on it. As we were wrapping up, I was starting to get text messages from my everts and friends asking if we were all watching what was happening there. So we're only now getting the chance to speak on it and since that game has happened Everton have actually beaten Blackpool for two. But they lost four note emitting Minnesota United FC and the question that people are trying to grapple with in the wake of that is what is the line between it's just preseason and I'm genuinely concerned. Now we kind of talked about this a little bit with the Tuco stuff with how he's perceiving his own club Chelsea. It's a little bit different for Everton because of how bad they were this past season. Yeah. How dangerously close they were to going down. So I think when they stayed up, there was almost this hope of like, okay, we did it. Reset, let's take this momentum into the next year. And that may still happen. But when you come off of that and then you lose four zero to Minnesota United FC, there has to be at least a little bit of like a seed of doubt planted in people's minds of just like, oh God, no, we're actually still really bad. This is still, we got lucky last year. This is still a big problem. The cooling bomb of that amazing finish to the season has slipped off the skin and now the burning itching reality of where they're at is come to the top of Everton fans are scratching nervously is what I'm awkwardly trying to get to. This is this is bad and it's worse when the manager comes out. And sounds as concerned. Lampard has sounded in mid season just last three on the bounce concern. You know, he was talking about losing her childless and again, the veiled message to the board, not really veiled at all to the sending a message just like Tuco, you know, we haven't got anyone in. They've only got James tarkovsky in. And Ruben vinaigrette online from sporting Lisbon. Decent. All right, decent acquisition. But yeah, they've lost essentially their probably their best player. It's Tottenham and Lampard does not seem. He kept saying in it. In his comments, you know, a club like us in the position we're in, we need to strengthen. I'm paraphrasing, by the way, we need to reinforce and he is right. They look so kind of, I don't know. I mean, they mis chances, sure. The dele Alli missed. It's one of the worst horrifying. It's honestly one of the worst I've ever seen. Now, he did score against Blackpool, so he might have scored twice, actually. I'd have to go back and check. But I mean, I would be making massive excuses for dele Alli if I was to say that that cross against Minnesota was, he maybe ran a tiny bit beyond us, but I mean, it was one of those where it was harder to miss them to make. Yeah, the net was right there. The angles were just all in his favor. And he made an absolute mess. Yeah, look, it really, this is a huge 5 weeks for the club now. It's enormous. They've got to, they've got to get players in. They've got to figure this out and quickly. Because I don't think what the players they have, they'll be in any different position.

"Minnesota has made the playoffs each of the last three years under heath. Here's the bad news hurt. Currently, they sit 11th in the Western Conference. So, her, are you cool with given the current circumstances in Minnesota? Minnesota United handing heath, this two year extension. I guess I'm cool with it if you are cool with it as a fan base. I mean, let me explain myself. In Major League Soccer in each conference about half the teams make the playoffs, that's not a bar. That's not a measuring stick for success. Now, Adrian heath now is the fourth longest serving longest tenured coach in Major League Soccer. Peter Burmese, Brian schmitzer, and curtain. All those have something in common. Do you know what that's something in common is? They want something. They've won something. Curtains want to support a shield, okay? The other two have one MLS cups. Insanely successful, whatever you want. Adrian is not one anything. Not in Orlando, not in Minnesota. In fact, he's lost more games than he's won. 72 to 63. There are 11 right now, but if you want to go to the supporters you'll standings, they're 20th in the standings. This to me, and it's always has been. I don't care if you want to say, yeah, but the first few years were expansion side. That's no longer an excuse to Major League Soccer. I would rather be an expansion side in Major League Soccer and start from scratch than some of these other teams. That's a reality. You can win if you do it right. Now, they've spent tons of money, they brought in tons of players, same outcome. If you're fine with being mediocre, then I've got no issue with the surprise announcement because that's what it is to me. A surprise announcement. If you want on a run, a crazy run and was like, MLS cup. I've had no issues, but that's not been the case. It's not been the case in Minnesota. It's not been in the case in Orlando. And this is nothing against Adrian V but I think if you want to aspire to be a top franchise in the league, this doesn't scream it. You asked if fans would be cool with it. It's absolutely just a couple anecdotes, but I will say this. We had people hitting us up on Twitter about the show asking us to talk from a Minnesota United fan perspective about this. We also had friends of mine who are Minnesota united fans texting me. And I think that the general consensus is that there's at least her a part of the Minnesota United fan base to your point that isn't exactly convinced of what they've seen so far from Adrian heath. There is a playoffs in the last three seasons. That's not a very high bar. There are some finals. There was the 2019 open Cup final. There's the Western Conference final in 2020. There's some success. But I don't know. I'm kind of with you here. This doesn't seem like you're chasing ambition. This seems like a very comfortable move for Minnesota United. There's some progress, but it's not overwhelming, and especially from a timing standpoint. When you're sitting 11th in the west, maybe give them some time to turn it around, right? Maybe not to get three games and announcement. Right, if you don't want fans to jump down your throat, then you gotta think about timing. Maybe this was the only timing that they had to make this decision on Adrian heath. All right, let's take a look.

"The league wide, the 30,000 foot perspective. We always hear that kind of retirement league knock. This would seem to confirm that. So would it be bad for MLS? No, because it's like the same people who say it's a retirement league or they're trying to knock or the same people that calling the last, excuse me, league gun in France of farmers league. It's like you're throwing these stereotypes to throw these stereotypes. You don't care. You've stripping away a lot of that stigma by the way you go out and sky by the way you go out and bring players into Major League Soccer that are very young age. Now if all of a sudden these big names can come in and still produce that age, salatin, albeit one of those players who has done it, then so be it, but you need to let these teams make decisions decisions for themselves. I love it. Giorgio Chiellini, we got a chance when we were at the MLS All-Star Game in Atlanta, when they played Juventus to talk to a couple of the Juventus players from a media standpoint, forget LAFC, forget the league. I want him here. He's a great a sound bite, but he's also a great character on the field that's going to give you things to talk about. Yeah, you got to think about the organization. I mean, he could be here in LA. Yeah, he could be here playing for a bit, but he could be in the organization for a lot longer. All right, of course, we have MLS all over ESPN+ ESPN as well looking forward to the weekend on Sunday. It's Atlanta united against the New England revolution. "Soccer is dealing with today, right? And I don't know one player that will vouch for playing on turf. They may say something political, whatever, but nobody, no player likes playing on trip. I've had major knee surgeries myself. If I'm on turf, I feel like I'm on skates. It's a very difficult task. Now we've seen stars. Thierry Henry, Drogba, slot on. All of a sudden, when they're here in Major League Soccer and they're forced to play on trip and by the way, Major League Soccer has at least to my count 5 venues that are turf venues. When they have to play on turf when it's on the schedule, mysteriously, he's not available. Mister Lee, he's got backsword. It's mysteriously something they don't play. If these stars, whether they're pastor prime or whether they're heading into their prime or whether they're looking to the future, start having a second guess because the logistics, the turf. About whether they want to be in Major League Soccer, this is a bad thing. Forget what the owners say, forget what FIFA says, forget what anybody will try to sell you. Turf is terrible. And it really hurts these players. Don't just take my word for it. Do some research on these said research. It's more it's more of a probability that these players will get injured on turf. Yeah, I'm thinking you're talking about from the player's perspective, totally valid, but from an image perspective to, and this is, I mean, it's an obvious word to pick, but it looks cheap. It looks plastic, right? Well, that's why they do it, Seth. Yeah. You don't see it though in the best leagues in the world. That's what I'm talking about. And I think it's there's also a point to be made here about team and individual team ambition, right? Because where do we see these turf surfaces with the exception of Portland? It's not in the soccer specific stadiums. It's in the places where you have an MLS team playing in an NFL stadium. So we give a lot of credit when we see the big crowds in Seattle and Atlanta and Charlotte. But there's a price that you pay with that. You don't have control over your facility. And at the end of the day, her, you're forced to play on turf. And so these other teams, like a Minnesota United, which by the way, if they can go grass in Minnesota, you can grow grass anywhere. They're investing in their players. They're just doing it in a different way. They're focused on keeping them safe as opposed to spending it on great players, bringing them in and then having what you see in these places, which is great players getting injured on turf. Final word quickly to you. You said it best. I mean, I've got nothing to say. Nobody likes playing on trip. I don't think the fans enjoy watching it on turf. If the sun comes out, if it's not what it slows it down, it's a horrible product. Nobody wins. More injury news now, though not to do.

"That midfield to be honest with you, is going to have too much for NYC FC. Atlanta to share this in The Bronx and make it a winter a further discontent. For NY CFC fans. That's a tough one to call. I'm glad you had that one not me. I don't know. I'm going on just just the names in the attack engine. Just look at them. And NYC FC are a little bit beaten up in the center of the park. You know, it's not rocket science. So that was the early game on Sunday November 21st. The later game 5 30 out west another four verse 5 another one tough to call. Number four, Portland. Number 5 Minnesota United FC. Minnesota swept the season series. Loons have actually been a brutal opponent for the timbers in their brief history. It's been like since the April of 2018, I believe, it was the last time that Portland beat Minnesota. But Portland come in riding a three match win streak to end the season, Sebastian Blanco, of course, has been back for them a player that they did not have. I think in any of their meetings against Minnesota this year. So that could have been some way contributed to Minnesota's success against them. And he's been in good form, too, he scored a couple goals two weeks ago when Portland clinched the number two spot in there went against rail Salt Lake. It's tough to call. It's tough to call. Timber scored 14 more goals than Minnesota this season, but by the same token only real Salt Lake conceited more goals than the timbers did among playoff teams. I don't know. Maybe it's a three game winning streak. Maybe it's their history of success and knockout tournament play. An unconfident one nil to Portland for me. That's what I'm saying. That is you just siding with history right there. That's all this is. Well, I think highly of Portland. I do of Minnesota as well. Yeah, and they're at home. It's not easy. I mean, look, the four first 5 matchups are going to be tough. And so it's kind of a coin flip. So I'm going one nil, but who knows? It could be extra time. It could be on penalties. It's going to be a tough one. All right, I'm up again, JJ Tuesday, November 23rd, 8 o'clock p.m., number three Nashville, SC. Against number 6 Orlando city SC, so I was reading topher Adams on the mainland Orlando city blog and he made a good point about kind of what a lot of these playoff games boil down to. Your star players coming up big and making that big play. I mean, a lot of these matchups are tight, and it comes down to that. Last year, raul Rui Diaz, we've seen it with. So you look at Orlando and you think, okay, Nani, Pereira. These are players with the quality to do those kinds of things, but they've both been in lengthy relatively poor runs of form, Nani with just three goal contributions since the start of September. Pereira with just two assists in September, not good enough. And it's true Darryl DK's been in red hot form. But Nashville has some players in good form as well. For one, look at Nashville they haven't lost at home all season, which is incredible. This is going to be in Nashville. That place is going to be packed. Should be a great atmosphere..

"The laces. Now, I do not know how in the world her. This is at number 7, but it is from Joseph Martinez. I don't know how this is number 7. The degree of difficulty and you look Gonzalez that knows what he just witnessed. The ball is at least 40 feet in the air. He doesn't let it bounce. It's curling. It's a lot of spin. It's all technique. It's coming at an angle behind the back and then the side nets it. This is like a laser. What is this doing at number 7? Let's see what's ahead of it. Number 6, galaxy, Minnesota United. What a Minnesota United. This is better than Joseph Martinez? No. For the first stop, I think Tyler Miller is better goalkeeper than this and he should have had that. Right here, okay, maybe I call for a handball so it would have been a goal and he was in a PK no problem. But really? I've been told in my ear that are producer as Mexican American, but ale Moreno are resident in Venezuela and is going to be very upset that was left out there. Number 5 here from San Diego X feminine yami la Franco. Look at this. Look at that movement on that ball. Look how cleanly she strikes a good reception and then just laces it. That thing is still rising. Well, struck. Lasso there against the Atlético. San Luis. At number four, back down my last decision day, sebas Mendes for Orlando city herk. Oh, this is the good Sabo in my life. What a finish. This is a ridiculous finish. Go on big boy. In step, it's all technique. Watch this, bring it down and then send it home. Big goal for Orlando city two. Against Montreal, they needed the points in this one. They got them, and they are through to the MLS postseason. At number three, U.S. L, great game between Rio Grande valley and Phoenix rising. Bubba card. Does anybody want to stop them? Does anybody want to maybe foul them? In that run, I don't know at midfield. Right there? Oh, they tried. They tried. Can't stop that, man. Finish. Yeah, this like I said, man. Great game. Great game. In U.S. cell. In the end, real grand valley advancing in the playoffs. Number two from the college game Washington state against University of Washington, it's a rivalry. It's a Derby Alyssa gray. Oh. Oh, okay. What's the goalkeeper doing? The goalkeeper honestly is not for a second. She had a chance. You know my rule. Do not die. Do not make a play at it. Go laughers are golas. Save yourself the time. This one was sent in to us via Twitter or you gotta love that. Always. We're listen. We're listen number one. From tigress. Oh, this is why. And then this is a go laso catches a goalkeeper sleeping X montego and get the Lopez your goals going champ with 9 goals. The lowest tally since ya boy, you have yet another did it with ten. Was this better than Joseph Martinez oh? No. How's Joseph Martin is set? Because he's number 7. Is that it? I get it, I get it, 'cause he's number 7. That's really really do not know. That's what it has to be. Hopefully he's not watching and too upset. All right, parting shot. Great scenes. Decision day Sunday. San Jose well eliminated. But in their final game of the season, Chris Wanda lousy scores and not only that afterwards and not to a press conference, but to his beloved. San Jose fans announces his retirement pretty cool moment hurt. Unbelievable moment. Chris Monday last week and I have the same generation. We finally had somebody else that matches up with him from speed standpoint. It's somebody who the rapids are extremely familiar with. You know who they can trust from that standpoint. so i'm excited about that I also i. I'm saying that that there's excitement but also with the understanding that there's very little expectation so in that like the floor is botchy basically doing nothing because it should be a lot of Rubio and then some of andrei you shaky at the number nine position and then like the the ceiling for him or dislike going exceeding expectations is probably like one or two goal contributions. If we're talking about a player who's played in five games. This season for nashville. He's at two starts only hundred eighty seven minutes. He has one assist and then last year albeit in a very truncated twenty twenty season Started ten games played in twelve seven hundred fifty minutes one goal. One assist on and you know was brought in to be a reclamation project and ultimately nashville got better as they signed a bunch of other attackers and ultimately as they prove. That could be a playoff team. Body wasn't starting so if all dominic balji is is You know occasionally used attacking counterattacking player. Who's gonna play like four hundred minutes and score like one goal and if nothing else he is diego. Rubio quad insurance. I'm okay with that. And so i'm happy. There's a guy i'm happy. There's a guy who brought a lot of happy memories for colorado rapids spans given how quickly that 2016 team was ultimately dismantled. That some guys come back and also come back. I should point out mark as a if there's any player who i think better represents the money ball let portsmith cook era of the colorado rapids. It is certainly the trading and then the acquisition of dominic balji. If we talk about the move to get calendar cost you know in hindsight folks. It's pretty obvious to see who ultimately won that trade between fc dallas and the colorado rapids but then if we see the other assets of the rapids gap between the hundred and fifty cain gams and international slot and in the first round. Pick that first round. Pick was then transitioned Was then package ultimately trade up into the draft. Get jeannie shaky even further prove that the colorado rapids on that trademark Fc dallas actually have the fourth round pick in that spot and then picked up a guy who has not made his mls debut didn't stick around with dallas. He's now with san diego loyal on loan from minnesota united. I didn't even look up his name. Calendar costa's work way more money than that so ultimately you have A nashville got one goal and to assist and then traded away. Two hundred seventy five k. Her dominic body he scores he gets one-goal contribution the rest of this year everything else's money and all of this in the context of the reality that the minute he signed his contract he was already playing with house money because he was a fourth round super draft pick and none of those guys sign with their teams fourth-round super draft picks Folks are such a relevant asset in terms of having an trading away that there is no longer.

Nearly often enough, But in two out of their last three road games, they have earned a point in Austin and now in Minnesota. It's just a matter of seeing if they can rectify things at home. But even though they do learn a point, the winless streak is now extended to eight games. But still you feel a little bit more positivity out of this one. As you did see contributions from a guy like Benji to candidates for the first time ever use odd just that life from Shea Salinas, who gets his 50th assist as a member of the San Jose Earthquakes. And even though all is not fixed with San Jose, this one feels like it was a step in the right direction. In fact, from a TSL made it was the first time he's earned a points against Adrian Heath and Minnesota United. And Really, it was that penalty. That Marcinkowski made the stop on, but unfortunately, the rebound came back to Avila, who was able to score the goal and give the loons the 21 lead. "And this has to do with leader. Who actually we should say is playing quite well. Right scored a goal for sporting kansas city in to victory over l. Afc but then he shows us the wound Oh my gosh. This is actually a reminiscent of tequila center. Remember when he Posted a similar picture on social. You have one of these from your career. What actually that. Lozano injury was michael the. Us men's asked him when he was playing from. I recall that injury. I listen all players. Have these things happen. It shouldn't limit them too much. There's talk of him. Maybe being dropped. I don't think it's gonna go that we don't know. Because these things can reopen resurfaced. But it's a shame because he's quietly putting on quite a show and not just this season he's got six goals. One assist this season but in the last twenty three games played. The man has twelve goals six assists. He's been as good as advertised. And here's the kicker last season sporting kc the best team in the west this season only behind seattle which is on remarkable just blowing things out of the water. He's that good. The highest transfer fee in sporting. Kansas city is quietly making a case for himself. Being the best one of the best. I should say mexican players In the legal one of the best mexican players that's played in major league soccer sporting kansas city. Peter vermes they've been waiting waiting for that number nine to kind of finish off their formation for a long time. Believe obviously right now seems to be very much. The perfect fit for that team is. They're playing really well all right another ugly incident and probably hurt. You could argue. The should've been ugly from the weekend. That wasn't major league soccer. Mls now launching an investigation into allegations of a racist comment directed towards portland. Timbers diego chata in a match between portland and minnesota united over the weekend a coding according to pri which is the professional organization the referee and match officials didn't witness or hear any comments so they couldn't issue any sanctions on the field. There's kind of two sides of the story right now timbers Manager gio saba said. A discriminating word was used. He said he's quote extremely disappointed. Minnesota united herkus come out with a statement saying there player who they didn't name. The player involved quote denied making any derogatory remarks. So it's kind of a. He said he said. And we await Further investigation and the announcement of what comes out of that investigation from mls franken funding. Is the player. That is rumored to be involved. He denies we should say this way her on the video the closest to the incident. You we see the video you can see that. He's the one most likely to be involved from minnesota back then. I already heard things from people that i've spoken to people. Within the minnesota organization surrounding both parties should say where some of ghana's far say. Well it's one of those things that doesn't mean that in south america diego chargers from columbia germany someone s who took offense this is from venezuela so though that out the window what i will say is. It's an unfortunate incident that we're still having to deal with these things in twenty twenty one and it worries me to get into the point within major league soccer that if nothing's done they'll keep happening and what i mean by this. This isn't the first situation that portland's had with a racist comment adama demanded when he was at c. Accused gutman something similar and pulling came out and back there player and when there were findings of no no evidence i could share to determine that goes. Monnet actually said this. They acted as if it didn't happen because the wasn't enough evidence to prove it. We're getting into a slippery slope now and nothing's being done we come out with these we come out with these initiatives we come out with these different things mechanisms to try to help the cause and nothing happens nothing that stood out to me quite as much as when you touch back on culture which is something that you mentioned before when we talked about the homophobic chant. There's sometimes this defense of oh it's a cultural thing to understand now here it again. Potentially here being used as oh well. It's a cultural thing. This word means something different. If your defense is that it was cultural then what really needs. Defending is your culture. You cannot use that as your fallback. That cannot be the explanation for why you've been accused of using a derogatory term simple as that right and the less needs to step in and make sure that these don't happen anymore. Let's transition right. Let's get.

"You're tuned into the war blues on three community radio. That gorgeous track that. You heard that. I was dancing around to like a maniac in this room was. Don't you worry by electric fields from their two thousand and sixteen ep in moss spot. I n a so the long easter weekend. Which i'm still celebrating. I spoke to bob. Hawke sayyed alkyl back to introduce themselves but before we do. I want everyone to read their article and new generation of australian war criminals in mention quarterly. It's an essay that got bob hawke trolled and unfairly attacked by certain australian publications all because but bach dead to comment. On the barrington report. Barrington report is a report that outlined allegations of war crimes committed by soldiers serving with australian defence force before burbach shares. What the experience was like in the second half of our interview We want to first of all. Get to know. Becca be who is incredible person that i was so lucky to chatter. Bobek i. I'm a writer editor. On an artist. I kind of previously was a social worker youth worker And still in some capacity. I feel like. I'm involved in his goals. In like community initiatives But like bit differently. Now because i'm not organizationally bound up in a way that wasn't a post on. Which has its pros and cons. I think And yeah and then. I'm currently On a on a novel and as well as just like writing things here and there as well. Wow okay you'll pretty busy. I'm surprised you were able to squeeze in. Bob not gonna lie okay. So let's stop from the beginning like us your third culture kid. I'm not sure if you refer to yourself as such but you've moved around quite a bit where were you born. And how many places have you called home. i think i like the time if they're culture kid. I think you know. It's like one of many second constellation of terminologies unlike phrases that we try to use to approximate some sense of our complex selves right. So i think it's a good one to add to the toolkit yes. I was born in perth In a very tiny afghan community that existed there. We want the first families that moved To perth specifically chain migration So my uncle was the very first And brought along and so they over the decades more and more afghans have gathered there But it's still very small community Especially compared to the you know western sydney And dandenong communities in melbourne and sydney on on the east coast which which are way So i think really early on developed to a strong kinda of like insular island mentality where you kind of acutely aware that you are in short supply in a place like And then and then. When i was For high school. Back when i was about twelve thirteen Moved to the states To kind of be closer to My mom's side of the family To yeah in in virginia as much bigger african community Suddenly i was kinda thrown into a very different a setup where like public school. Everyone's have kind of an. It was cool for different reasons. I mean and i definitely prefer it that way in the sense of like finally being around people and not having that like weird outsider Suddenly like you know in a place like this even though it's kind of still we're not like a major city elements just one of those places like that for for whatever reason A lot of immigrants of of from from afghanistan have gathered. you know It's kinda like michigan. Like loads of arabs in michigan list of somalis in minnesota united. It's like weird and not clear. Exactly why or how it happened. But like it's cool that happened We kind of formed their communities all around. And yeah and then. I came back to australia for a unique when i was eighteen. came back to melbourne so Did you need a couple of more years than building My kind of like artistic practice on a ride early practice. And then i move back to america two years ago You know what. I found interesting. Is i my family. We came here in ninety two so it was my sister and my mom and my youngest sister haven't been born yet so i grew up in melbourne a muslim school. But i always wondered if i had grown up around like other somalis because there weren't that many of us in melbourne at that time in the early nineties i was wondering we had been raised in london or in the us in minnesota. As you said up to the somalis minnesota. I was wondering what my life had been better. And so i ask that question to you because you sort of did touch on that With things a lot easier when you found other afghanistan. I mean it's complicated but i think in some degree in some ways for sure like just having that Legibility you know where it's like. My cousins dislike are everywhere but like at the same time the flip side of that is that you know it means that you know. My uncle's taxi drivers pretty much. Said like suddenly like level of surveillance right. Like if you're out walking around with friends during the mole suddenly like this auntie or that hunting sawyer Travels around like you know the grapevine how it is so so there better be people you get before you even reach your mom's got a few calls you like what the hell iowa and i'm walking around see you i swear to god as you need to make use of the on in let me god i pray that they denver figure that out because if they do they'll be too powerful powerful and its sell us out quick no shade. But i don't want to go there so So as we've said you've moved quite a bit and it sounds like you know there are pros and cons to being around community. Has this made you think differently about what community means. What belonging means other questions that you think about For sure fisher. I feel like so much of the dilemma of of course being third culture kid rise. You're constantly striving or Like trying to find that like alternate place of belonging or that like ritual practice or group of people you can finally breathe easy with but unfortunately like the hajr is about it is the there's no resolution there's ultimate final place final resting bites. You know where where everyone around you will will fully understand those parts of you feel that when i was in australia. I always felt like really weirded out that like people didn't quiet Like all this time.
