Lowe: How two contenders went all-in at the trade deadline

"If we look at the actual deals with the contenders the Miami Heat and the and the clippers in terms of contenders moves. Yes Yup move forward at the deadline going forward. I think you see the Minnesota Timberwolves have made a big move forward. I'm not really sure. What the Cleveland Cavaliers have done? They made a big Zach. Lowe's point about the cavs. Good one at that price. Why aren't you making that deal? WAS CLEVELAND LIKE YOU HAVE A. You have a chance at a twenty six year old all-star to you know you have three months to answer to young team I think is really gonNA develop here in the next couple of days is unless there's a last minute deal that will just tell us about and you can use that again Thomson was not traded. That's right there was like six centers traded over this last three days. Tristan Thompson was not one of them. There has been a belief in the League and frankly his agent has been cleared. Paul's been clear. That Tristan is interested in taking a buyout. Because if you take AK- buyout even if he doesn't plan on being with the cavs you lose your bird rights and you can't be executed assigning trait but considering where they are now we're android is going to be their starting center. He has to play a a lot of minutes going down. The Stretch Tristan is not gonNA play not going to be able to improve his value. I think the chances of Tristan Thompson buyout have increased dramatically. That means if you're a fan of the Boston Celtics your ears perk way up right now. The Boston Celtics would be major in the market for such a good fit there. Right absolutely and the clippers who still have believe it or not. The clippers could could still use a center. I think if he becomes available over the clippers looking for more shooting at that position he could come there. But if you're a Boston Celtics Fan right now. Even though your team didn't do anything you are really picking a very close eye on Tristan Thompson. Because Tristan Thompson goes to the Celtics that could be the type of move that changes the balance of the Power Easter. Well first of all to finish up on the cavs. I would say this that they have had a hard time getting the rest of the League to think that Kevin Love worth what they think Kevin love this and they have been at Har. It's been they haven't been able to make a deal because of that. Well if you got Andre Drummond not for free but for a very small price. Maybe you let Kevin love go for a lower price than you thought you were going to. Maybe that's what it's about it's about this Andre Drummond and has a twenty eight million dollar player option which he may or may not pick up. I would advise him to pick it up. The CAVS are looking at like we did about twenty million cap room they. I don't think they could use that. Twenty million on the player better than Andre Drummond. So in a way this was a free agent. Move whether or not he keeps. He picks up the Optional Sarah. So let's move on from Andre Drummond. I WANNA get to Paul Paul. Can you go directly into your camera. Here and make a pitch to Tristan Johnson to talk to buy outs or the one player that can put the Boston Celtics Celtics over the top taking a couple extra less. Millions is work. But you don't know the answer is you. Don't take any money. They make the cavs by you out. Because they've they've they've just traded for your replacement but then you go sign and get more of my life could be part of a of another friend and these France table talk need a physical presence. A veteran leader champion.

NBA Trade Deadline: D’Angelo Russell To The Knicks?

"We're going to go through all the major players teams and things and what they can happen as we were just over forty eight hours away from the trade deadline online. So let's start there Ryan with the New York Knicks. They are actually one of the more interesting teams around the deadline. That got a lot of potential assets that they could be sending out. Marcus Morris has one of those guys. They've got a lot of potential interesting. Big teams could be interesting and also we've heard rumors about their interest in de Ngelo Russell in some sort of trade situation with the Golden State Warriors. So what could you tell us. What's what's the what's the latest on the next and what you're hearing about their plan now that they've no longer have Steve Mills that has their president as we approached the trade deadline? I'd be frustrated about about the de Ngelo Russell rumors if I were Nix fan because keep in mind. The Knicks had a bunch of cap space last year it was widely known that the Brooklyn Nets and other teams. We're going to pursue Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving and that the Ngelo Russell may be acquire -able and When the Knicks did not get a meeting with Kevin Durant or Kyrie Irving they quickly shifted and signed a a bunch of power forwards including Julius randle and Marcus Morris and Bobby Portis and did not go after Daniel Russell despite a big hole at the point guard position? So you know if the Knicks were to trade a bunch of assets for Liangelo. I think that would look pretty bad. You know six or seven months after free agency but You know this is where the Knicks I think they have the worst point guard or depth and talent rotation in the league. I I don't think they have a viable starter right now. It'd be hard to say that Frank Nickel Tina or Dennis Smith junior is they're offered Payton. It is a at least they'll even league average started so I understand why they have some interest in in the Angela Russell again I think they should be looking long term. I think they should could see if they can get the late first round pick from a contender for Marcus Morris. I keep an eye and the clippers Rudy. He made a good point earlier about the clippers ability to trade a first round. Pick the last time in in a in a while So you deal that would work. is Marcus Morris going to La For Mo- heartless and a first something like that. So that's that's where I'd be exploring if I were in the next front office but again what they should do and what they are doing. I think maybe two very different things I heard the next. They're interested in keeping Morris and they may potentially even add to their team like trying to trade for a Daniel Russell which I think would be a mistake but Yeah with what they have going on in the front office right now with with the changes in the short term pressure. I wouldn't be surprised if they make an aggressive move to try to add to their help me out with the NGELO. Russell like feel like they're the team in in the Leveraged Bridge position. But I don't feel that way I feel like there's kind of like a ticking time bomb on when they can get rid of him but it seems like the more they ask for assets. The people are willing to give that up like me understand de Ngelo Russell. Why teams are so interested in getting good question scale? I think because if you're a team that needs a young point guard which is we've discussed. This show is probably the most difficult position to fill in today's NBA. You don't have one then. The NGELO Russell is the best player lawyer who looks like he's available or maybe available either now or in the summer so I think if you're a team you know you're probably kick the tires on a guy like drew holiday. I especially especially if you're a contending team but if you're a team that's trying to build like the Knicks or like the Minnesota Timberwolves and Diangelo Russel is appealing because he's relatively young. He's in his prime him and he's under team control for the next four years One of the questions. I had prior to this. Trait season was whether teams look at. The Angelo is overpaid now because keep in mind Minnesota talking to a deal with the Ngelo Russell and the twenty five million dollar a year range. I ended up getting an average of about thirty from Golden State. So that's not a significant difference Overall but it does impact your team building your your salary cap and potential luxury tax ramifications down the road. So I agree with this gal but I think You know Diangelo. Russell is available now teams know that if they can't get him now that will almost certainly be available over the summer. And if you're a team like Minnesota where the young star and Karl Anthony towns who doesn't want to wait to win games aims and your teams lost eleven or twelve in a row. I think that makes Dangelo Russell. Even more appealing.

NBA executive says LeBron James ‘killed’ Lakers’ chemistry with Anthony Davis drama

"Let's see there's a whole myth debunk about these Lakers, and how LeBron James has ruined them. So to speak. But also about why this team. Is right now, I think it's three games back of that number eight spot in the west. So remember LeBron recently activated his playoff mode. We talked about it last week. And he had to do that early because they didn't get any Anthony Davis. And they've not only got three games between them. And the number eight spot in the west, but they also have two other teams ahead of them in the Sacramento Kings and the Minnesota Timberwolves right now, the Spurs. Oh my gosh. The Spurs who just went one in seven on their rodeo road trip that usually at time when Gregg Popovich. Sees his guys come together they bind it's their longest road trip of the year. It's really taxing. But in years past when they've had the leadership. The guys who've been around coach Popovich for long periods of time for for many years. And you know, what I'm talking about going back to? Tim Duncan and mono and Tony Parker. And it's it's an it's a changing of the guard within Antonio this season. But this road trip was a disaster. They lost about the Knicks and the nets on the last two nights, which is crazy to give a hundred and thirty points to the New York Knicks on Sunday and on Monday, only managed eighty-five points in Brooklyn, and that was capping their rodeo road trip. So anyway there right now faded into the number eight spot in the Western Conference, but they're still three games up on the Lakers and the Timberwolves and then the kings are sandwiched in between and the Lakers are below five hundred. So it's going through this story written by Eric Pinkus? You get all the way through the tale about why they're struggling and where LeBron James is pointing fingers, and maybe this is a case. Similar to Ben Rothlisberger in Pittsburgh where he's okay calling out his teammates. Because even though it's his first year in LA all the experience that he has the eighth consecutive NBA finals the night overall the three rings, you get it. And so maybe he feels like it's his responsibility to teach them how to win and how to approach this stretch run. And to keep the focus on the details. The day to day grinding it out. But at the very bottom of this column by Eric Pinkus. He quotes an NBA executive. You have to get all the way through, but it was worth reading to get to this point. And he talks about that whole disaster of a week when the Lakers were pursuing Anthony Davis willing to offer five of their own roster guys as well as multiple draft picks. And how the NBA itself? Now, we talked about this the time, but how the NBA itself. Was put off by the connection between LeBron Davis by virtue of Davis's agent, and LeBron's business partner rich business partner, Rich Paul of clutch sports. And so the NBA didn't like it. The pelicans really didn't like it. And we're we're totally toying with the Lakers. But LeBron went all in. He was sure this deal was going to get done. And so Pinkus quotes one NBA executive who said to him he killed the Lakers chemistry. He shouldn't have been so public about it even during the all-star draft. He laughed about wanting Davis to be his team mate. He killed the Lakers chemistry, and we talked about it on the show before the all-star break and coming out. They looked a little better. They looked like they were a little more fluid. And of course, our Lakers insider, it said to us they had the time away. This is when I was in Pittsburgh on Thursday night. Brad turner. He's our Lakers insider with the L A times said to us. Well, they had some time away with their family and friends they came back with the perspective that. If the Lakers don't want us. Don't want me. There are twenty nine other teams who do. But I encourage you to read this column by Eric Pinkus. Because as I talked about before the break. I don't think it's snap your fingers and a locker room recovers from something. Like this not one year a bunch of young players outside of the LeBron for the most part. I mean, John Rondo is there as well. Javale McGee, but these are not players that were being dangled to the pelicans because they're not players the pelicans want. I mean Rondo was there last season. And so it's not fixable. Just by snapping your fingers. It doesn't work that way. Like, I talked about human beings when we think a break up is coming or an end is coming we brace for it. We start to prepare for it. It's impossible to go all in on a

"We'll have a good time. One of my good friends in the business in and Kevin one of the things being the voice of a team is little different than being what you are. Now, the national guy because I'm not sure people can appreciate the job until you've been part of a team that doesn't win a lot. How much did you have to endure in that environment because you had some other jobs before TNT and CBS? Yeah. I was with the Kansas City Chiefs for nine years and most of those were bad there. The team was not very good. And with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The chiefs job I got after the Kansas City kings left. That was my first job out of college was the NBA, and I was cheap and affordable and in Kansas City and the kings hired me for the final two years before they went on to Sacramento, but it was obviously I mean come on. It was the NBA. It was Magic Johnson. It was Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. It was Michael Jordan's rookie year with the Chicago Bulls. I mean, listen, it was I was going to New York and doing games Madison Square Garden. I was twenty two go into Boston Garden going to the fabulous forum in Inglewood where the Lakers played near at the height of their greatness. And I mean, so I mean, it was it was it was a dream job and one that that kid you just don't get that job out of college. But that was my first job out of college is doing the NBA, but they lost a lot they were horrible. And then and then I and then the king's left, and I did the Kansas City Chiefs the year the kings left was in eighty five. I didn't start the chiefs in eighty five and they were bad for many years until Marty Schottenheimer arrived in eighty nine and then I stayed till nine through the ninety three season. And you may recall the ninety three seasons Joe Montana. Joined and they made the AFC championship game. His first year Marcus Allen came to the chiefs. So that was. A lot of fun, and they had had a couple of playoff games in the previous couple of years before they're building up to Montana and Marcus arrival in ninety three. So it was it was an honor do the chiefs. I was hired by Lamar hunt. Did you the chiefs? And that was a great thrill. But when you're not good, you know, you work on your craft you work on being good. And listen, I was twenty two twenty three twenty four twenty five years. I was a baby in the business. And and I had a lot of learning to do in a lot of improvement. And and I was learning on the fly in the Kansas City audience was so patient with me as I be tried to become the announcer that I wanted to become, but when you're that young you don't have your voice that you don't get your your man voice until you're in your thirties anyway, and it continues to evolve. And and I'm here, I'm in my mid fifties. And it's still evolving feel but then we know when I was twenty three twenty four my goodness. I like I was about ten, but I was you know, obviously. Thrilled to be a major league announced at that age. But you you learn a lot by calling games are not very good. And you try to make him exciting. Those advertisers are playing paying a lot of money. You have those games on the air your station wants people to feel like it's a compelling game. Whether it is or not, so you learn to to to really, you know, you show energy. And and and when there is a good play, really, you know, make it sound big. And so you learn a lot about yourself. You learn a lot about broadcasting, and and and but but it's a never ending business. Mike is you know, you've been in this long as I have your constantly learning, and you volving, and and and and you probably don't feel like you've had your best broadcast. I don't feel like a lot of guys don't feel. It's yet to come. I'm not sure when it will be. But I I hope it's down the road here. Because you you try to aim for that that the best broadcast, which probably will never come. But you like the challenge of it down the road. Let's talk family for a big you've been married. To the same woman throughout your career. You've raised two daughters. We know you're going to stick around for while longer because you have to pay for another wedding. But when it comes. When it comes to what she's meant to you. And allowing you to pursue this career that has his highs and lows talk a little bit about how important family is to you. Well, we'll be married. Thirty one years this Christmas. We were married between games in our honeymoon. We got married. She's from Tulsa. We got married on a Saturday night. And flew back to Kansas City. I woke up the next morning did my Kansas City Chiefs Seattle broadcast and then took off Ronnie moon that Sunday night. All she's done is manage her life in and around these seasons. Our kids we we induce labor in all four of our kids around games. I do a game. I'd fly back in town. I pick her up we'd go to the hospital. She was fully nine months with all four, and they would induce labor and by two o'clock in the afternoon, we had another baby. And we'd stay there for a couple of days. We take her home. I'd go back on the road. I'd do a game. I come back. And and and welcome, you know, and we we we do the whole process again, we have four kids and they're all grown and garner. Baby is a boy named after my dad, and he is he'll be a senior in college next year. And and they've all grown up with me being gone. But I've not missed the major thing we may have had to push a birthday celebration to the next night. We may have had to celebrate a anniversary early or late day here or there. But I've been there for every major. Event all the kids getting born our our wedding. Obviously, we we met during the big eight weekend in Kansas City. We were engaged three months later married that Christmas. So we met in March engage in June and Mary debt, Chris. And I knew that she was the one. But when she met me she thought like I like sold insurance and did like. She she didn't know what I was doing. Because I was in after I finished college basketball. I was finished. What I did. And her friend had like the next day. Will you know, he has a real job? He has a job in broadcasting. But she didn't know, and she wasn't my. Don't you love the innocence about it man that that may not be fun? Now speaking if you're a, yeah, I can't I can't imagine. I can't imagine my life without her. She's she's not only been the perfect wife, but she's been the perfect partner in this journey. And and we've had I just got this national award. And and and and are the events coming up in June down in North Carolina. Joe buck is one of four times national broadcaster of the year adulation that is a very prestigious award. Yeah. And and so I just want it. And and she's the reason why I mean without making our life. What it is. There's no way I would have ever wanted. So she's dedicated to her and everything she's got through a what about your daughter Olivia who's making a name for herself. And that's gotta make you feel good that someone in the family decided to follow in your footsteps. Well, Mike, I told her I said, I said it it's probably extra hard for a woman is we're finding out. Is this business continues to evolve it's very difficult for women to be in it, but there is room, and she knew that she would tag along on games, and she was younger. She sat and press boxes in the back of our booth watching. She knew exactly what she was getting into. She went to great journalism school down at the university of Georgia, and you know, along with Mizzou and Syracuse USC, those are probably the top four broadcast journalism schools in the country, and she went down to Georgia graduated early. And when she was in college, she she went into Atlanta for an for an interview at Fox Sports. And and she thought she was going to be like, you know, cutting tape doing some editing writing some copy, maybe she'd get to a game or two and pull pull the, you know, the broadcast cable or set up a booth there'd be a runner at the end of the interview they offered a job to do sideline for SEC telecast. SEC football games. Her senior year at the university of Georgia, which I'm still to this day amazed at and she was so good. The Atlanta Hawks hired her when that's that winter to do sideline on forty games in the NBA while she was still in college. And so then she got the ESPN job right after that she's been ESPN for years, and she's just she just turned twenty five. So I'm thrilled and happy, and she's she's a pro. And we talk broadcasting all the time. And thank goodness. She's still asked for my thoughts. You know? She's getting so good now, I don't have much to tell her anymore. But I admire her drive and she's got a great head on her shoulders. And she knows what's out there. And we talk a lot about it. But I'm real problem. I did tell her two things I said I said when she was just it. I said, I don't think you should get in broadcasting, and I don't think you should ever date, a professional athlete. Well, she got into broadcasting. And she is engaged to a an NBA player. So for listening to you. I know that he gave me the Dan Heisman, I'll make up my own mind, and she and she'll be getting married this this summer to avoid that anti and I just adore. I couldn't have picked out a more wonder, and they met in Wisconsin. We spend our summers in Wisconsin is I was early and she met him through friends up in Wisconsin one summer, and and and they've been dating for a couple of years and had been engaged now for a little bit less than a year. And they're getting married this summer. We're we're thrilled for it. And it's going to happen in July. Sounds like you might get off the hook and picking up the tab. She's got a good job. She's married. A guy in the NBA. Maybe you might. Oh, you get off this. I'm still getting matab. Yeah. It's funny when they all come home, and I've got one that lives in Kansas City with her husband, and that's the one who's who's expecting our first grandchild in the November. And then Olivia in San right now, they're out in throughout in Los Angeles. He's with the clippers, and and whether he stays with them or not, but they're out there. I've got another daughter in New York and our sons out in Denver in college. So so they're all they're all over the place. And and but when they come on, man. The tab is signed. And you know, what the that's what we work for that. That's that's trying to be able to do the things with your family and for your family. So no, I'm saying I'm saying it with with tongue firmly. But it's it's it's wonderful that we've been able in this business. Do you have the family we've had and it's the most important part of my life, and it's made my journey and broadcasting terrific in so enjoyable, but I know that if it wasn't like that that the journey would not be nearly as fulfilling as it's been and and only because of my marriage, and the kids has it been fulfilling journey it's been, and I I am most grateful to them for everything they've gone through in in in being a part of this business, which is you know, is taxing on a family, but they've been the best in and I am, and that's why this this award. It'll be dedicated to them and my wife in particular for for letting me live my dream. Mm-hmm. And things I wanted to do since I was a kid and yet have the most important thing in a family that that will last forever. We're going to take a break. Our final break. We're having a lightning round segment we returned right? Is it rapidly.

Everyone back on track

"You're listening to the spoken edition of the San Francisco Chronicle. Everyone back on track. The band was back together finally on Monday. The warriors were at last their complete selves for the first time in five weeks. Draymond green tech, Stephen curry. Yup. Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson present and accounted for. It's good to get back to who. We are green said four all stars on the floor together. The ones who went eight when one or more were missing and ten one when they all play together. Make that eleven one after a let the good times roll kind of night at oracle and one hundred sixteen to one oh eight win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday. Green finally returned to the court after missing fourteen of sixteen games, including eleven straight due to a toast brain for the first time since November fifth all four warriors all stars were available earlier in the day. The warriors learned that they had received sports Illustrated's annual sports person of the year award. Yes. Awkward wording when a team wins the award. The award is given for a team that best exemplifies ideals of achievement and sportsmanship. But in recent weeks that special glow that is surrounded the warriors for the better part of four years has been slightly dimmed the shine a bit tarnished. There was the November twelfth incident in Los Angeles when green and Kevin Durant had words and green subsequently was suspended for one game combined that chemistry breakdown with the absence of Stephen curry for eleven games because of a groin strain and the first four game losing streak of the Steve Kerr era. And there was valid reason for concern. The warriors were as Kursad banged up physically and banged up. Spiritually could the magic come back short answer? Yes. The warriors played with familiar joy and energy Monday night during Curry's absence. It was so obvious. What was missing the superstar the point machine, the heart and happiness of the warriors greens value is just as intense different. But also. And as tangible he pushes the pace, he's tough and emotional and smart and without him. The warriors simply aren't the same Kerr calls what green plays with a force curry said that it felt different with green. We were playing really really fast and excited. They were quintessential green moments in Monday's game. Like when he was left alone at the arc drained, a three pointer and emphatically waved his hand at the defender indicating the timber wolves might wanna guard him more closely at the end of the first half with four point four seconds left on the clock curry tossed green Alaba under the basket. It would have been an easy bucket but green swung. It back to Klay Thompson standing beyond the three point arc. Thompson nailed the three at the buzzer to send the warriors off the floor pumped up and celebrating. That was probably the play of the game Kerr said just an amazing leap and pass an awareness of brilliant, play green cracked. I was gassed I had no energy to go for the layup. So I threw clay the ball if you were trying to analyze the body language between. And Durant for any signs of strain. Good luck with that nothing was visible to the I for the most part the team looked like the same one that played together last season as we found out. It's just not the same without green without them altogether. With all four of their stars on the floor. The warriors have a point nine hundred ten winning percentage without one of their key players available. They have been average appoint five hundred team sometime in the next few weeks. The big four will become the big five with the addition of DeMarcus cousins who practiced in Santa Cruz for the first time Monday, how that works will be fascinating to watch one more novelty in a season that has been anything. But a repeat of last season. It feels different this year Kursad before the game. He was talking about the different combinations of players that he has been playing together. But he could have been talking about everything the whole season to this point in June during the finals Kerr joked about how he was going to keep his group motivated this season. The topic came up. Regularly in training camp as it turns out. It's not an issue the injuries the internal drama. The addition of cousins the introduction of the warriors to what Kerr calls the real NBA a league of ups and downs and strife, in difficulty has meant there has been no boredom. No going through the motions the way there wasn't times last season. The warriors haven't looked dominant in the first quarter of this season. And the Western Conference is confusing. Only three point five games separate the top eight teams in the conference. And if the season ended today, Houston, Utah and San Antonio will be left out of the playoffs. It has been a weird start nine of the warriors next fourteen games are at home and two of the road games are in Sacramento. The warriors are staying close to home and our complete. This might be when they gained some mental and some separation from the other teams in the west the band is back together. And that's a scary thing for the rest of the league and Killian is a San Francisco Chronicle columnist Email AK leeann. SF chronicle dot com. Twitter at an Killian.

"The Minnesota Timberwolves have moved past the drama of Jimmy Butler, Anna flourish, they take on the Spurs looking to make it seven wins and nine games since the big trade head coach, Tom Tippett. Oh said they're capable more. We have a long way to go. I think we're improving we're still playing as well as we can if we want to be a good team. We're going to have to continue to work. The wolves are still a half game out of the eighth spot in the west the clippers occupy that top spot in the conference L A is one its last three to thirteen and six and will host the sons, the bucks are fourteen and six and take on the bulls tonight at home and the other part of that Jimmy Butler trade has worked out pretty well too. As the Sixers are six and two as well since acquiring Butler and coming off a last second win with the aid of their new guard tonight. They'll take on the Knicks. Several good games in college basketball as fourth-ranked Virginia meets number twenty four Maryland, the big ten ACC challenge, both their sixth and seventh ranked Michigan is also six and hosts six in one North Carolina, which is ranked eleventh in the country, and you're here for the tar heels Cameron Johnson little later on with writer than you Kentucky is five and one on the year and hosts Owen seven Monmouth right now, the Wildcats though. Second to last in three point field goal percentage defense in the country. I'm drained after watching it. Our readers tweets, Steve McNair, won MVP and went to three pro bowls praying for Jeff Fisher, which means be played with Sean McVeigh. He would have eight thousand yards every season. Pretty good. Accurate. I don't every single week. I see it again. And I'm like, man. Thank goodness that they made the not only made a change, but they made the change for Sean McVeigh because in retrospect perfect hire. But not easy in the moment. Have a fantastic day..

"But you know, I plugged the new lineups in to the original preseason projection in Philly. Actually, I think dropped a little bit rather than improving despite getting, you know, the best player in the trade Jimmy Butler, just because of the fact you've got so many minutes that we're going to quality starters that now are either going to Chandler of whom I'm skeptic or a skeptic or blue. Or even on the rotation. Then that because this is a team with a lot of injury question, Mark. And at this point, you know, ten guys you can really count on to play rotation rotation caliber minutes. So I think you have to go out as you said, I think this has to be the precursor to something else. And one of the things that I think is going to be really fascinated. The next couple of months, I feel like we're Kyle Korver goes could end up like having in massive impact on the Eastern Conference assuming it's if it's one of those contenders, Phillies, Phillies, still has some expiring contracts. They can do business with they have Chandler. They have Mike masala have Rettig, although read it can block a trade. But we talked about this on the pot over the weekend. Yes. Mr arnovitz. What will you say? Felton for that matter. You is a team you follow. So if you look at the Minnesota Timberwolves, and obviously they lost. It impact layer their best player in terms of production. If not potential. You look at starting five, and you know, what it's kind of interesting in Covington. They get the kind of player they've been missing for a very long time. A starting three four who can shoot a little bit. And might be one of the most versatile defenders in the lead at his physician. Would if they get good Dario. Okay. To put next to towns. Wiggins is obviously always going to be this. This issue. We have to deal with potential versus production Jeff t been hurt now. But they're getting good rushing from rose. Like is it crazy to say that they're still very much off contention? When you add up all the pieces, and and look at the talent of towns and just what they get now defensively with Covington stars five as not a terrible defender, all well, I think I gotta play Derrick rose less. Derek is playing too much. Coming back. Let's say Teague is getting close coming back. One of the things I think benefits them is. Yes, therefore nine, but they west isn't there's a lot of teams sort of puttering in the west. You know? There. They've dropped the standings. But it's not like they're seven teams in the west that are already six games over five hundred. So they're there they have some they have some window where they start to play better. They can because this is one of the things I thought the started the season was if you had a bad two weeks in the west it would take two months to overcome it. But you have New Orleans sputtering. You have Houston sputtering. The Lakers are five hundred. A few teams have impressed us. But the jazz sputtering the the the the thunder came out of the boxers sputtering a little bit this Spurs are okay. But on the little bit above five hundred. So I think they've got a fighting shot on that. But pelton unless you have a real something really to say here. I just wanna squeeze in. Before we go. So the raptors twelve and one. They've done it. Despite collide missing some games. Are they number one in point differential? No actually there behind Milwaukee, Houston and also behind Golden State, and I think they might be buying someone else too. What do we think about the raptors? I mean, are they going to be a sixty five one team when we what do we think about their tied with third? Yeah. Okay. I think so I mean, my take away from watching them the other quick. When this had preposterous home road imbalance. I mean, they're doing great. They played nine home games and forward game so far so just up their spouse..

"Whatever man, I actually am cool with the referees. Allowing these guys in the last couple of minutes to play I know some of you out there sticklers to the rules of defendants. Dan, the first good vantage. We'd good. No. I want the games to be a little more physical. And I'm okay with that. Now, if it's completely agree Disley, hacks them on the arm. That's different. But did he not let their grows follow-through? Okay. Fine, whatever. But the shot still got their, you know, give me a little step back action Derrick rose right that we can't block your shot. You know, he stepped right into it. And of course, Tyson Chandler with his length was able to kind of get out. They're smart enough to get out the way, though, just to make you know out there because he could have jumped into Derrick rose that would have been three shot. It was not body at all. It was all hand. But look that's the veteran savvy that a guy like that brings to the table. And he was the hero at the end. Is LeBron talked about At a veterans. veteran who the spirits allot able to pick up things very fast. You know to be able to get Tyson and to have that one two punch Valentine's those guys create extra opportunities for. Way d- rose shoot Navolato as we needed. Every last one off the reviles allowed us to to win a game in a season where we've sat there and have dissect it every play and look that's not to say we won't dissect every play here moving forward because we will. And they were things last night. I didn't necessarily love from Luke particularly down the stretch. The the lineups to me are still something that are bit mind boggling, but again, we're gonna stay on the positive tip for a second. Okay. The thing I took away from that game. And I'm curious to see what you guys thought about this. I wanna I wanna see if you're on the same page with me, the two numbers that stood out. The most to me forty three points in the second half for the Minnesota Timberwolves twenty two points in the fourth quarter for the Minnesota Timberwolves that to me. Those are numbers that are music to my ears because what have we been harping about? When it comes as Lakers team that their defense is absolutely atrocious. And for the first time. The entire season. I know it's only eleven games in. But for the first time I finally came away from game saying, all right? They they look competent on defence for change. So I know I've been harping on some stuff. But again, there's two conversations we've been trying to have here with you. There's a micro discussion which is the day to day. Whether it's a game reacting to the game reacting to the news of the day. Magic Johnson, you know, getting on Luke or whatever. And look that stuff not gonna go away. Okay. But the macro discussion was always just take a breath is gonna take a minute. Not. Everybody's Michael Thomson with this was going to be fifteen and five to start the season Ireland, and I particularly were very much on the ten and ten through twenty games, and you're good. And and they're going to probably be ten in ten look at the schedule moving forward here. They're gonna play Orlando twice. Orlando might be I know the wizard stink right now. But Orlando might be the. The worst team I've seen play NBA basketball this year. I honestly think that if you gave I don't actually honestly believe this. I'm lying to you. But if if they played Duke, they probably lose at least one out of ten, and that's generally, not the case NBA teams versus college, nor should it be. But the Orlando Magic are so trashy as a squad that I actually think that Duke might get one out of ten games against the Orlando Magic and the Lakers play them twice over the next couple of nights..

"But as at least flirted with an offer to the Minnesota Timberwolves that includes four first round picks, which basically is they feel as though they are Jimmy Butler away from contending there. One in. Five Mike dantonio says they've lost their swagger the season is not over. They are not left for dead right now. But if you look at the Western Conference in the NBA it gets late early in the NBA season because it's one thing if you're the one or two seed where you might not have these stiffest challenge in the conference in the playoffs. But the NBA playoffs are the antithesis of the MLB playoffs baseball. It comes and goes before you know, what the Red Sox go from playing the Yankees around one two World Series World Series champions in what feels like a blink of an eye. The NBA playoffs are two months. It's a grueling stretch for anybody that makes it far you got to be have to position yourself appropriately during the NBA regular season to make a deep run and they're one in five and they're looking up at not just the warriors. But you know, the always competitive Spurs, the nuggets the trailblazers teams that have been good the jazz who we think could be a legit factor in this conference. Not even dimension teams like the thunder in the Lakers who have also struggled out of the gates, but figure to be in the mix come April. Yeah. You know, you mentioned defense, and it's obvious side of it. And everybody says, well, they just need to get everybody together and find their rhythm. Because Carmelo Anthony is new Chris Paul had a suspension James Harden's injured, but Cornell, Anthony two of twelve from the floor in last night's loss one oh, four eighty five to the trailblazers James harden when he's out they've lost by a combined thirty nine points in their last two games. And then Chris Paul even though he did have those games that he lost his suspension. He's nine of thirty two in the games. He is playing in. So you know, to me it feels like maybe if you put all those piles of poop together, they all fixed each other. But that's a lot to ask for like. It's a lot to say it's just about get them all together and get a rhythm because defensively those problems are not being fixed by getting everyone on the court together. And then offensively they shot thirty two percent from the floor last night. Yeah. So here's what I would say is that. I don't have concerns that the rockets can't find a rhythm. They're going to be very very good. And they're going to find the rhythm. We're gonna find their swagger back. My point about the standings is notable because like last year at the end of the NBA season. There was this teeny tiny sliver of a margin between the third seed and the eight see there was legitimately competition for six spots in the playoff up until the final three days of the conference so at but like the in relative terms, you know, the rockets and the warriors had it easier than other teams where like the trailblazers with a thirty two got swept in the first rattling the depth of the west makes it such that you really don't have the opportunity to falter in the way that the rockets have faltered right now unless you're going to have a blitz of the rest of the regular season, which they showed us last year. They can have a lot of this is small sample size confusion for us right now. I'm not saying the rockets aren't going to be competitive in very good. When push comes to shove. But it's a bit disconcerting when you look at the bigger. Picture because we know that the west is going to be really good top to bottom in the difference. Be in the third and the second or the second in the fifth seed community world of difference. Yeah. Absolutely, right, sir. Spain and field Yates, it's ESPN radio. Jimmy Butler booed by Minnesota Timberwolves fans at home opener

"Went off on his coaches. What you guys problem you can't win without me, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. So the fans gave him just a spattering of booze and Butler turned into thirty three points used it as motivation and the T wolves go out there and pick up a dub in their home opener. And they dropped the Cavaliers and send them to. Oh. And to kind of in a weird standoff that they had that people started booing him, right, which okay, I get it. It's kind of a kind of a tool move what he did. But I you know, whatever he's a dude. I guess, but here's what's weird is after started going off just like, well, you know, what he's still our guy. Right. So they take the booze and a tournament chance of MVP. Now why you're saying MVP and game to the season. I have no idea. Maybe not a whole lot going on there. Minnesota because the Vikings aren't any good. The twins are worse. Early supported that hockey team since enor- stars left and moved down to Dallas just not the same with wild. But Butler decides still go out there saying rip off thirty three points. Kind of looked over at his bench afterwards. And you just kinda shrug it off. And. Kind of laughed a little bit about as well. I think that's going to rub. A couple of people. The wrong way to look it. Makes you smile that. There were bullying me, and then they turn around and turn an MVP chance. I mean, come on people. I'm a little disappointed you Minnesota like seven sodas. Great people stick with him. And you're born the guy boom the whole game came maybe come back next week when you're over a little pity party.

"And Minnesota Timberwolves fans boo Jimmy Butler during the controls, but it turned a cheers as he scored thirty three on ten of twelve shooting in the victory over the Cavaliers and Butler. Also hit all twelve of his free throws. Corey Crawford was back at the hawks practice hours after he played his first game in nearly ten months, and what he wants and needs are more games. More you play the more you get into games. The

"Is making his twenty eighteen home debut tonight. Few days ago you had a message for temple wolves fan boomy and go James. The way I play probably go make me smile more. Please come on with Bob. Do you understand fans booing Butler tonight? I would. And I think it's one of those emotionally complicated dynamics in that arena tonight because mom and dad are fighting and mom. In this case, Karl Anthony towns. Mom is the one that you know has said that she loves you but dead. Those want to be around, but you kind of respect him more in this hypothetical scenario. So I am just worried that this is a fan base that really has no moves to make you if you applaud one too much or one, two little, it gets really complicated the HALE house. Did you grow up in. I don't understand. Okay. All right. So what I understand if they booed him. Yes, on the general idea that fans especially fans in places. Rive personally would not want to live do not like it when people say they want to leave this place, right? They tend to take a little more personally if os too. So maybe that's what it is. All the other hand. I don't feel like if you're fan of the timber wolves that you can't look at Jimmy Butler and not saying you're right about most of this stuff. Right? Like I, if you're tired of Karl towns being a little soft out there, then yeah, Jimmy Butler would be your guy in that way. Like I don't understand a significant level of hostility towards him. You know, your team is a trainwreck. He's just the one that's come out here and said, this team is a train wreck. You want to boost already booth evidence because there's no reason this do to still be on the team writes that is a far better target for your actionable ir getting him out because he does want to be out. And the reason to be mad because he wants to go to New York and Miami and LA, but not in Minnesota with. The good news is that they played a game already. And after the game, Jimmy Butler was using the Royal we. He was saying we and us. He had a pretty good game. Coral towns had a terrible game yet. Eight points fouled out all that as you know, because he is on your fantasy team, but that is good news, at least in the sense that Jimmy isn't going to use Carl's performances. However, poor they may be as leverage. He's not gonna further twist that knife in for the

"Many kids sixty. One kidding. I'm kidding. I'm kidding kidding. How about the Cleveland cab? We'd have twenty one loss wins. Then the Cleveland Cavaliers only like thirty. Isn't it? Thirty one and a half how much of a drop without LeBron James my Lord. I think they were fifty-five. I'll I'll say. Over under over badly were when they lost. They went twenty seven straight losses at one point. So, yeah, I'm just going to say that because of the conference I give him the benefit of say, they they get thirty two wins. They get thirty to the win by half. I go under still. So how about an interesting team for me, the Minnesota Timberwolves at forty two that's low. Now they got that whole Jimmy Butler saga drama, whatever you wanna call it going on over, you're going ODI. Five is my guest. So Jimmy Butler gets traded and they don't get a player or players as quality back a return to that. Would you say under, I'll say, even that one's hard to bed on because of that, you don't know what's going to happen there. And he started. He's gonna please plane in the opener. So who knows? I'll take the under on that because I don't know, man, I feel like a without Jimmy Bower. If you got cat in Wiggins, I'm not really high on them in the west. If that's your team, you know what I mean? It's hard to see them being five hundred or better than five hundred with no Jimmy. I'm not sure how many games you'll play in in the Minnesota Timberwolves colors that will. We'll see yet to be determined. So. You know what I found interesting. The clippers thirty seven and a half. Under under under? Yeah. What about the Mavericks at thirty six. They're only one and a half behind the clippers, and they're a really bad team under. You're seeing bad. Yeah. Okay. Take. Did you pull up the MVP? I had you want to hear some shockers. Yeah. I mean, we talked about a little bit, but. I think there is a name you a player and you tell me what they're over under his you mean they're like they're no, like to one odds. Okay. Russell Westbrook. Isn't he twenty two one. He's now fourteen to one. Yeah, that's interesting. This is shocker to me. Seven curry, twenty five to one the teen one. In this one can also shot and Kevin Durant. Eleven one nine to one. So he's in the single digits again, what Brown's? Probably this. This one's kind of a long shot, but Ben Simmons forty five to one twenty eight to one pretty. That's pretty high for them. It's pretty good this quite Leonard. Thirty five to one eleven to one. That's that's pretty high. This one is kind of absurd still to me, but entity Davis high for sure. Eight to one four to one. Yeah. Yeah. He's the. Might not be LeBron James, he's odds on favourite three to one. Yeah, ten to three actually. Yeah, let's face it thirty one. Yeah. Interesting. So who are you picking this one's also crucial genus at ticket proposal, the Greek freak that his name, I'm lily, pronounce it and to numb Papa. Anna Takubo Anna, there's a t- to tease Toco, but in any. Okay. So. T t okay. U. n. p. o. sometimes you don't just do it phonetically though. Jaanus is GI and I, yes, I know Greek, I know that, but Jonah Janas how you supposed to pronounce properly. So what does he seven? Hold on. I just got an ad popped up on my screen about the swimsuit edition of Sports Illustrated that no one ever buys. Anyways. Well, they don't buy because other things exists. Definitely not..

"Thanks, Jason Witten coming on. Thanks again, STAN Van Gundy popping off from LA just a few minutes earlier, but let's get back to the phones that it eight say ESPN JP if you're out there, feel free to call back so I can get you back on buddy. Sorry. I had to cut short because of STAN Van Gundy. Let's go to j. You'll live Stephen. They talk to me. I was going on even going right. Talk to me. How's everything. So I wanted to ask you a couple of questions skeeving and I don't mean to be funny anything like that, but it's Derrick rose on the Minnesota Timberwolves. I don't think so. Not anymore. I haven't. I haven't looked though who the hell knows where Derrick rose is these days. But as of right now, I know he was on on the team at the end of the season fall. I know he might still be on there. I haven't even checked because one of my games may be is what Butler went through and Chicago with having to play. You know, a second fiddle to a star and for that star to say, teams like I'm not going to injure myself. I have my kids to take care of things like that for forget for Butler to put the team on his back the way he did when world was injured yet. And I don't I know know. if I remember correctly. I do believe rose is still there. I do believe that rose is still there in Minnesota plan under typical. So it's Taj Gibson, obviously, the all all those two amd Butler all played on the typical inch icago so it's it's, it's kind of it's kind of weird. What's going on right now? No, that's my whole point. Because from what I understand, what will make cats any different than one side for which brought up earlier today I go. That was the whole point of me call on the show, but I just wanted to add a little bit more tools because from what I heard last year wasn't Whiteside having problems about, you know him showing up to a sewing up to the facility late and isn't he was who would who showing up to the facility late. Oh, isn't it? Isn't his name was how I'm watching whites up? No, no, no, listen, man. They they had a whole bunch of problems with Pat Riley had to sit down and talk to him. I mean, you had guys. They literally had to talk to John Whiteside last year about quitting on the team. He is viewed as somebody that got his money and stopped giving a damn literally, at least at one point last season and the Miami Heat were incredibly down on him. Hopefully, he's made immense to try and change that moving forward. But he is a guide at a rally at sit down and talk to him, man, paralyzed city, cultural, even why would you want to go there even because if you remember, I, I don't even think they played him, but you gotta make it to the playoff where you gotta remember, they got a few rough riders on there. They got a lot of guts, they defend. They play hard as they haven't. Gundy pointed out. Very few coaches in the business are is excellent as Eric's pollster at playing to your strengths and not only that he's tight with the way he's cool with de way. Rather they were in Chicago together. You gotta believe that if he wants to go to Miami, that's something that d. way clearly supports them, what have you. So all of those things to be considered and by the way, what is there to about south beach? Could you come up with something? I can't. I can't. I can't. I'll tell you that right now. I can't do. You relate. Thanks for taking my call every for you. Let me go. Can I? Can I get a five minute rant on my Oakland Raiders it how many five second off seconds. Go ahead. Mark Davis. I understand you the owner, John grooten understand you. The coach will come on. We gotta get it together. 'cause del Rio was a step away. Now I feel like our squad is Kim steps away. Now, Kim steps away and you end he has that guy hundred million. You know, you know. You know, don't go into the bottom line is Jay, the job that Jon Gruden has done thus far Jack del Rio could have done that for about ninety five million less doc, right? Byline. Take it easy, man..
