"It set up was a game. Changing and that dr last thing i want to cover was minkah fitzpatrick. Moving around that something. I have been touting for awhile last season after after the season ended on my show. Is michael beck. We were doing the curtain call. We were talking about drafting players. I talked a lot about you know if we drafted someone that could play deep zone. We could move minkah fitzpatrick around more. And that's a big deal because minka. This patrick is the defensive back with the most gravity on the field in the secondary since troy paulo gravity. What i mean is that as is. There's almost like you don't go on screen play with making his patrick android circle around him and just like like a little ghostbuster circle. Put that red line right through the middle of it. And just don't throw here right. That's fitzpatrick having player with that kind of gravity and they're just locked into deep zone. Means you just don't throw to the to the zone there in your somewhere else if you're moving him around because you've got a guy and traynor would that can fill that deep zone role in edmonds. Played a good game i. I haven't really singled him out. He didn't stand out a lot but they didn't target him. That one play where he he ran in front of the receiver to cut him off in case they were getting into the end zone on. That overthrowing ball other than that like edmunds had a good game. Played a lot of deep zone. While they're moving minkah fitzpatrick around. It was trained norwood and terrell edmonds and they didn't get beat deep. The sealer still didn't get beat deep week. One they're up to the challenge and that's awesome because that allows minkah fitzpatrick to move around more. And the more creative we can be with minkah fitzpatrick the more we fight. Hey minkah fitzpatrick is great doing this. Or he's doing that or the ability like in this game for for much of the game for minka fitzpatrick to just go over and be in zone. Wherever steph on digs like stefan digs is up on the on the right side on the inside sly and guess us in zone behind him megabits. Patrick yeah. There is a man on stefan digs pattern match on step on digs but supporting that is making fitzpatrick and stuff on digs. He got his like fifty yards. You know the old ab ab got shot down. He got fifty yards. Steadies is fifty yards as it. So i'm very pleased with. This is something to look forward to. I wanna point out that the steelers secondary is a work in progress. You're never as good as your best week. You're never as bad as your worst. Remember that you know trae norwood's going gonna struggle. There's games cameras sutton is gonna have a bad game. James pierre is going to beat things are going to happen even fitzpatrick it's the right. Don't don't expect us to be. You know the second coming of the two thousand eight steelers secondary. It's they're not there yet but they play a heck of a game to start their journey towards who they're going to be this season and that's fantastic. That is fantastic. "He's not a slot corner. he's dangerous. they're still you. Don't mess with you. Don't attack me. If it's patrick. And it throughout the bills game plan especially. They didn't early in the second half so like you go into halftime. And you're like all right. We've got this. We've got this train norwood. We got a bit of experience playing against him. Hey how are we going to attack him. Are we gonna attack him in haden. How are we gonna take him in certain. How are we going to go after this kid. And then you come out the second. Half and minkah fitzpatrick is your slot. Finder and tree. Norwood is the safety in nickel right like this just throws everything off all those adjustments you plan for it. Just it doesn't fit. What's on the field now. I think that's one of the ways. The steelers won the halftime adjustments defense. Is they just moved people around. They were like an now you now. It's not what you thought you were. See now what you saw in the first half. it's different norwood. Despite all of this. When he was in safety he played really well to he. He wasn't perfect right. I don't. I don't want to sell this. Bill does some kind of a superstar. He isn't all right. He is not a superstar. He is in my opinion on the level you saw around love. You saw cameron sutton is in two thousand eighteen sutton second season before two thousand nineteen when sutton really took off and showed his value. Two thousand twenty. It was more of the same and he showed he might be an option to even do outside. Two thousand twenty one. He's an outside corner. We'll get to cameron silence game and a little bit but norwood is ahead of the curve. He is. He looks like cameron site and did and cameron citing second year. Cameras up was a third round. Pick norwood's a seventh round. Pick what this says to me. More than the steelers found a good player is the steelers change in draft policy for this year. Were drafting of player. Because they fit something you already do. Not for okay. This player just has these physical attributes and this level of athleticism and talent and we can. We can teach them to play our system but actually finding players that already placed something that fit in this defense so that they have a entry level comfort zone right. Trading norwood in college played safety. He played slot cornerback. He played all over the place. But as i was watching him. Because i did the film breakdown on on him after. He was drafted his role. Was cameron. sutton's role. You don't cameron sutton. He's the a cornerback a safety. He's playing all over the place sometimes. He looks line up like a linebacker. But he's in coverage what you know. What's going on with cameron sutton. Yeah it's a role he's a coverage specialists and they moved them to different positions but his role was very similar. In all of those same thing for traynor would in college so come into the steelers right out of college. He was a great fit for a lot of what the steelers do for safety and almost all of what they do with their dime back. He had that level of comfort. Coming in. i've touting terrazas a game changer for the secondary frankly right now like where would you rank train norwood against most of the steelers cornerback save drafted in the last ten years. Go back go back. Seventeen years during the steelers drafted ike taylor. How many of you seeing were cornerback comes in for the steelers. Excuse me comes in week. "I don't know man i'm starting to feel like maybe they hit on something here but again going back to my point. Who knows maybe just going against a bunch of the future. Ups drivers and bouncers and this isn't anything to get excited about. But he is looked very good. All right back to you. A we kind of took the wilson went away from me honestly. I certainly won't stop. You know. I think that point about the defense is good. Because you can contrast jack wilson with justin fields or trae lance who have had some really fantastic moments in the preseason thus far some really great moments can get you excited about them with moments where you're like well. They are playing a more complicated defense than man. Feels look blinker Kind of figure out what the obliteration was others. A healthy debate on twitter about who that was on. But i mean at the end of the day Unblocked defenders coming for you. You have to do something about it. You have to see it right. He racked in that game absolutely moment. That had to freak out bears fans. Oh yeah i. I have to imagine for sure and you know. He's like famously a fairly tough player coming out of college. So you know i. I imagine that you'll just kind of use this to and move on. But it kind of looks like he's not ready trae lance You know his high highs really great the really fun some of his best moments. He's got like there's not even a defendant with an eight yards much less three yards of him and he just firing off a deeper into a wide open. Which is what shanahan's great at right. A wide open tight. End down the field or something But then there are other moments really kinda slow. He's not getting kind of what he needs. Especially beginning this this this week to game that he had So you contrast that was wilson who's maybe not facing the same challenges defensively as as other were but you at least get to see kind of what that floor might be for him. That's really exciting to see. Yeah that's that's what i had onto. And i also got to throw in that discussion about an about fields and Lansner too so. I guess peace. Well let's i want to say though that jimmy g. would be one of my followers in a strange way. Which is that. It really feels like kyle shanahan wants trae lance to win this week one. Which is what is what. I kind of fell coming into camp. We've talked about it. I i agree with you a reef. I think the second freelance game. But it's pretty similar to the. I had a lot of things to feel a little concerned about holding the ball. Just not being able to read things seeming a little tight for most of that performance until he gets into the two minute drill. But then you look at like the drives that he's he's played fourteen drives in the last two weeks and it really feels like shanahan's trying to set him up to win the job and then after the game he refuses to say the week one starter. So i don't know who's a winner and loser here like clarity. I guess is the loser. Feels like if it costs a lot more to detroit for someone who might start than somebody rain right if he wants. Trae lance to win the job. Then it's then trailer is going to win the job. Maybe it won't be week one. But i don't know i don't think trae lances shown enough that you just give it to him but it looks like that's what kyle cnn wants to happen. Let me move to the defending afc champions. I feel i have this feeling in. It's not bold or brave on any level. That patrick mahomes is gonna drop a major season for the ages this year Just better line and still. Has these superstars around. Just how talented is like master of his craft. Type season coming up fifty touchdown type season. If he stays healthy now the other side of the ball is the only thing that's gonna stop them. And i just think you keep on reading chris jones and how good he looks and the shape he's in and he's been completely dominant in practices in preseason and preseason. I'm just wondering like how good can the chiefs defense be because it's one of those situations where it just needs to be okay right so if you have somebody like jones delivering a monster season that can carry you too. Okay almost singlehandedly. He feels like a great defensive player of the year. Pick for what. I don't know what the odds are but whatever it is. He feels like he would be a nice one. Because i'm sure he's not one of the few favorites but him playing at defensive end in everything you hear. You're absolutely right. yeah. And i think they've got some really interesting pieces. That jerry sneed had a really great rookie year. Last season didn't play the full season but a really great rookie. Last season's look pretty good in the preseason. So they've got some pieces on defense that that will allow them to kinda i guess make it impossible for other offenses to keep pace. I guess is the goal for for the chiefs defense. So yeah pretty excited about that. I leave written down as one of the winners two or something related to the teeth. With which was the chiefs running game the chiefs. Do give us something they do. Give the preseason enthusiasts something they show a lot in the preseason and their running game this preseason has been very diverse mixing and a lot of extra stuff. I like what i've seen out of jerick mckinnon. I'm kind of a sucker for him. He did not look ever healthy and san francisco last year but supposedly from everyone who's watched practice everyday. He showed up there and has been a difference bigger and he looks good on the field. And so i think the chiefs running game. They they keep saying in practice. It's all about these long slow drives because that's what defenses are going to give to. Patrick mahomes inside. I think they're running. Game could be could be better this year.
