The Pittsburgh Steelers Charter from playing from Las Vegas made an emergency landing in Kansas City, Missouri early Monday morning. A Steelers spokesperson posted on social media that everyone on the plane is safe and that the team is making necessary plans to arrive back in Pittsburgh later today. This is from earlier today. Obviously multiple Pittsburgh media Atlas reported that the plane landed at KCI Airport at 3 55 a.m. Central time because of oil pressure failure in one of the engines fire trucks were at the scene inspecting the Airbus at a 330 900 according to Pittsburgh. CBS affiliate KD Ka which had a news crew aboard the plane. The Steelers were returning to Pittsburgh after the Sunday night 23 18 victory over there. It is Steelers veteran defensive lineman Cam Hayward quiped on social media platform X that the emergency landing was a result of a roughing the pass a call on teammate Minka Fitzpatrick, but however flight was okay. They ended up, you know getting rerouted and fluent back to Pittsburgh on a different plane. But wow, that was a really scary moment. Speaking of Kansas City Taylor Swift shows up at Chiefs game to root for Travis Kelce amid dating with I think that room might have started here on the show Rick, but poor boy of Breitbart pop sensation Taylor Swift appeared at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday in full Kansas City Chiefs swag as she rooted for the home team. Amid dating rumors between her and Travis Kelce. She sat next to the mom and had a good old time boy. So you I mean, we all kind of know where all of these people. I mean, where they all kind of stand. Well, it seems a bomb. That's for sure. Yeah, that's for sure is right. Maybe they should go play there. Yeah, exactly. I mean, you can find that missing F45 or a quarterback. Yeah, they're probably both missing. All right. What else is going on? Rick? All right. Republicans unveiling the witness list for the first impeachment hearing that we talked about a little bit earlier tonight. Here are some of the names that they're featuring. They're going to be featuring three witnesses, including George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley, former assistant attorney general and U.S. Department of Justice. Tax Division Eileen O'Connor and forensic accountant Bruce Dubinsky have been announced so far for the committee that's going to be starting later this week. So we'll look forward to that. Jonathan Turley, huh? Yeah, it's interesting. Be interested to see what they're asking him about top Republican donors, believe it or not, are shopping for a candidate not named Donald Trump. Well, they had high hopes that Ron DeSantis would be their savior. That doesn't seem to be the case, according to this from Yahoo News, as big GOP donors hoping for an alternative to Trump are now giving up, they say.

"It just seems weird. It seems like a very odd decision to move off of Zappi and risk him getting claimed and everything else when, what is your backup plan? It's not even Malik Cunningham. You waived him too. It was interesting. I don't know what your thoughts are, but I was surprised at the way New England handled that. Yeah. You know, I know he came back on the practice squad, and maybe that was kind of like, you know what, we could risk losing him. But that says a lot, right? You're willing to risk losing Bailey Zappi and for the entire off-season, we're all wondering, will he take over for Mac Jones? So I'm probably going to give away a little sample of my story next week. I'm doing winners and losers for the preseason. And I wrote Mac Jones is a winner. He hasn't really done much, but it's all set up for him to succeed this season. I feel like Bill Belichick wants to make sure this guy has a fair shake. Yeah, last year was a disaster with the coaching hires that I made. But Mac, I'm going to do you a favor here. I'm going to give you a dominant defense. I'm going to give you a reliable running game, a competent OC and Bill O'Brien, and we're going to make Zappi on the practice squad. Like, what else do you want Mac Jones? If you can't win with a good defense, a good running game, and you can't improve the passing game. Yeah, I get the targets or the weapons are not as good, but it's all set up for you to do something. And, you know, Trey Lance will kill for the situation, right? Like even as Zach Wilson, the same guys from the quarterback 2021 draft class. So I just view Mac Jones as a winner, but does he deserve to have all this kind of, you know, success around him? Yeah, no, it's a good point, man. And if Mac Jones is smiling ear to ear right now, because Bailey Zappi is on the practice squad. And Mollie Cunningham, by the way, also got added back to the practice squad. So you end up getting them both back. But to your point, like anybody claims them, they're gone. I mean, you know, it shows New England's not too in love with either one of them. But if I'm Mac Jones, I'm like, look, both those guys just got cut. So I know I'm clearing away the number one guy. Number two, I don't have a defensive coordinator as my offensive coordinator anymore. So that's a nice change of pace. I actually have a coach who's on the offensive side who's running the offense. And Bill O'Brien, who said what you want about him as a head coach, he's a good coordinator. And they added, you know, they went out and got Kasicki and they added Juju Smith-Schuster. I'm sure they lost Jacoby Myers. But all told, like, look, I don't think the Pats are going to be the greatest show on turf this year. But they're better set up for success than they were a year ago on offense, where a year ago, Matt Patricia, who's a defensive coordinator who can't even coach a defense, was coaching the offense. I don't know. Bill Belichick, maybe the greatest coach ever. It's an interesting decision, to say the least. Yeah, no, I'm with you. And I'm really intrigued to see what, like, you know, last week we were talking about, like, it's a bad year for the pesky teams to make a noise in the AFC because it's just so low in the AFC. I really want to light the Patriots. And we're going to get into it right now with their AFC bracket predictions. But it's going to be tough, man. And it just, again, all eyes on Mac Jones. And, yeah, you know, even a guy like the wide receiver from last year, the second-round pick, the surprise, Taequann Thornton, right, the speedy wide receiver, he's kind of struggling. So it might be a tough uphill battle for Mac Jones. But, again, like, when you have a good defense and you have a good running game, all you need is, like, maybe 17 points to win a game. Yeah, I canned the ball to Armandre Stevenson. Don't turn the ball over and hope you can score, like, on one or two key drives in the game. All right, look, let's get into it. So we got the AFC preview. We'll do the NFC after this. You and I differ on a few of our playoff teams, not that many of them. Why don't we lead off with this? Why don't you give your division winners in the AFC, and then who are your three wildcards as well? Okay, for the AFC West, I have the Chargers. The AFC East, I have the Jets. AFC North, I have the Bengals. The AFC South, I have the Jaguars. And now my AFC wildcard teams are stacked. I got the Buffalo Bills, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Baltimore Ravens. I'm telling you, man, you wrote the story about the quarterbacks in the AFC. They're just dominant quarterbacks. So for me, I can't pick the teams who are the underdogs right now, but those seven for me are pretty loaded. Okay, so I know the big question under that is, why the Chargers over the Chiefs? Yeah, I know that's going to be the big question I'm going to get for that one there. And it might not be the best reasoning here, but I know it's only one year of a sample size, but I saw the Rams firsthand covering them a year ago and trying to be a defending Super Bowl champion for the longest season in NFL history. They got to that mountaintop, and they lost that urgency. It's a different scenario because they don't have a Patrick Mahomes, and they just unloaded everybody after a terrible 5-12 season. But I just saw the fatigue, and maybe they parted too hard, Sean McVay, and everybody seemed injured. I don't know if I'm ever going to see this again, Matt, but the offensive line had 11 starting offensive line combinations in the first 12 games, and I could not keep track of who's who on that roster. So part of me kind of feels like, well, they've won. You might be right here. I forget what it is. AFC West six or seven consecutive AFC West division time. They've been the big hosted five straight AFC title. That's a lot, and at some point it's like, two Super Bowls in four years, I think we kind of let off a little bit, and that's the only reason I have. I'm not even worried about the wide receivers, Matt, on the Chiefs. I think they have some good players, but it's just kind of getting back to that mountaintop, and it's been two decades since the team has repeated, and I keep looking at the Chargers, and I shouldn't put my faith in the Chargers. I've covered that team for four years, like I mentioned on the top of the show. They're always having high expectations but always falling down in Jacksonville, falling down in Las Vegas. They just can't seem to get out of their own way, but they're talented. They're stacked, and maybe I was out there too many times in Costa Mesa watching Kellen Moore and Justin Herbert operate. They look pretty good, and I feel like eventually you've got to take the opportunity and take that division from the Chiefs, but I don't feel confident about it, but it kind of feels like, okay, there needs to be some type of change eventually. Yeah. Listen, they're to a point where, and the Chiefs I mean, they've won seven division titles in a row. The only team, I believe, that's ever won more division titles in a row are New England with Brady and Bell. At one point they won 11 in a row. I think the Rams in the 70s also won seven. Yeah, they've been to three Super Bowls out of the last four years, won two of them. You're right, at some point you would think there's just going to be a year where maybe they have some injuries or they step back. The one thing I will say with the Chargers here before I get into my pick, they are super talented. My concern with them is always the same two things, their coach and their injury history. They just get hurt every year and then Stanley does things that I just can't understand, although I do think Kellen Moore is a big upgrade over Lombardi and Herbert's fantastic. Hey, this is Paris. So, my seven playoff teams, so the same teams that we have, I'll give my division winners, we both have the Bengals and the Jaguars, so we were in lockstep there. I had the Dolphins winning the AFC, so basically all this ensures is that we're going to get a lot of hate mail from Buffalo. And I had the Chiefs winning the AFC West. I'm just a big, like, you've got to prove it to me. So the Chiefs have proven it so many years, I'm sticking with them. My wildcard teams, as you have, I have Buffalo, I have the Jets, you have them going in the division, I have them as a wildcard team. And instead of the Ravens, I'm going to go with Pittsburgh. I went back and forth on that, because that division I think is the best division in football. All those teams are solid, like, you could even make an argument for Cleveland if you want to, I just think Cleveland's in the wrong division. I just, man, I love the Steelers' defense and I love Tomlin. So my whole thing is, if Pickett's just decent, that team should win a lot of games. Now, I don't think they have the ceiling that Baltimore does. Baltimore, if it all comes together, I think is a team with a higher ceiling. I just wonder, you know, different offensive coordinators, is that a good thing, is that a bad thing? And then you have, like, Beckham, that could be great for them, that could be he plays five games. It's just, it's a weird, I feel like I know a little more of Pittsburgh, so I went there. And with the Chargers, they always ended up putting them in. I'm just wondering after last year, after that loss to Jacksonville, is there any kind of a hangover to that? You know, and then you have a lot of guys in that team that are getting a little bit older and you have a huge cap crunch coming up. I mean, Allen, Williams, Eckler, Mack, like, this could be the last year for all those guys here. So maybe that plays in their favor and there's an urgency and they play great. Or maybe if things start off rough, it becomes almost like, well, where are we going? So I had them at 10 and 7, but just losing a tiebreaker, they were the next team in for me. But yeah, I think the AFC is ridiculous. There's going to be two or three teams that aren't making the playoffs that are legitimately good football teams that just can't get in. Yeah, and you know, I guess with the Chargers, I am banking on that urgency for them to kind of do something. And to even add to your point, man, the GM's been around 11 years, man, and he has never won. Well, I think he won a division title, actually, no division title, no division titles, no AFC championship game appearances. He won like one or two playoff games with the Los Costa Jam. Yeah. And then the head coach, Brandon Staley, might be on the hottest hot seat right now. And you know, a lot of people want that job, too, because of Justin Herbert, so it puts a lot of pressure on Brandon Staley. So, you know, I'm going to say they're going to put it together for at least, you know, a good run. I don't I don't know how far they're going to go, but I think they might win a division. Will that be enough to keep everybody intact? I don't even know that that's going to be enough. So we'll see. I'll tell you what, man, if you're right, though, and the Chiefs, the Bills and the Ravens are wildcard teams, that is going to be an insane first weekend of play. You're going to have these teams at home, having Mahomes come in and Allen come in. And you covered the team, you know, better than me, like if the Chiefs go play the Chargers on the road in a playoff game, it's going to be Arrowhead Stadium out there. I mean, it's such a weird or if like the Bills go to Jacksonville, it's going to sound like Buffalo. I mean, it's just such that to me is everything with the Chargers. It's so hard. Every game's a road game for them. I mean, very rarely, you know, maybe once a blue one, they'll play some game like whatever. The other fan base is not large either, but it's just tough. They play the Cowboys at home this year. The place is going to be Jerry World. It's just, it's so, that's got to be so defeating. You have a big home game and you come out and there's 70,000 people rooting against you. I'll never forget covering the Super Bowl at SoFi and there were as many Bengals fans as there were Rams fans. You're like, how, how is that possible? I mean, since he's a tiny city in any event, it is weird. All right, so who, who's the team in the AFC that you think is not going to live up to the hype? That is a team that maybe is getting too much shine. And you're right about the whole LA being all over the place, man. I've lived there all my entire life and, and I even grew up a Vikings fan. I don't even know if I ever told our boss, John plume that, but I was a big Randy Moss fan because there was no LA team for three decades here. So that, that, that, that makes sense for why it's a, it's a very unique situation, a very unique town. And I'm sure Chargers are probably tired of talking about it. I used to ask all the time, Matt, so I could tell you about how I know they get with that. But as my my disappointment, right, that is a question here. I didn't, you know, for you, you know, you didn't have the chargers and that's surprising to me. But for me, it was the dolphins, you know, you have the winning division and the way I look at the dolphins is like, man, losing Jalen Ramsey is going to be tough. Like, you know, he's supposed to be this big piece that, that you got on the off season, you know, helping out with Xavier and Howard and they have a good defense. But Jalen Ramsey is supposed to be a big part of that defense and he won't be back until December. So that's a long time. What if you have a rough start there and you're already, you're already in the stack division, you're playing the Jets, the Bills and the Patriots twice a year. So why don't you fall behind there? And then I feel like every time I see a big fan, Joe defense, it's always year two. Year one is kind of a transition year and they don't really take off until year two. So if you don't have Jalen and that really kind of hinders, hinders your progression a year one. And then on offense, like it feels like, yeah, they got Jalen Watto and they have Tyreek Hill, but then it's kind of like, well, no tight end. And I get Mike McDaniel doesn't really like to feature a tight end. And then the three running backs, they're really fast, but is one of them really good? I can't figure that out. I know they have the rookie from Texas A &M who, you know, he can't really stay healthy. And then you have Jeff Wilson also going to be an IR. That's also concerning to me. And then two, can he stay healthy? So I think a lot of focus is on the big two there. And I'm not even sure I'm, you know, there might be the best to do on the NFL. Some people are higher in general water than, than I am. I still see some concerns there with drop balls here and there, but Tyreek Hill is amazing. Everybody knows that. So I feel like the dolphins are a little, even with Jalen Ramsey, maybe a little overrated for me. You know, it's fine. I pick them in the division because I like Fangio being the coordinator there and Ramsey I thought was a good get. Obviously he mentioned he's hurt most of the year. Of all the teams I picked to win the divisions in the AFC, they're definitely the team I'm the shakiest on because A, the division's good, B, all the things you just mentioned are fair. Like I don't know if Tua is going to play a full season. I mean, what happens, obviously nobody wants to see it, but God forbid if he gets hurt like week one, what if he gets a concussion? Like how long is he out for? Is he out for the year? Like I don't know, you know, I mean, it's a scary thing. So I do hear you. There's a lot of concerns. My team is Baltimore. I kind of laid out why, look, Odell Beckham's a great talent, but can he stay healthy? Rashad Bateman's a good talent, can he stay on the field? I believe in Lamar Jackson. I am curious though, if they ask him to throw the ball as often as Burrow has to throw it, Mahomes has to throw it, Allen has to throw it. Can they play that way and still have that element of being unique? Because I think the hardest thing to defend about them is how unique they are. And Jackson is such a freak, you know, with his arm, with his legs. Are they going to take that away a little bit because he's been hurt the last couple of years? I don't know. But I'll tell you the truth, my biggest fear with them is just defensively. I mean, you know, Marcus Peters is gone, Kaleis Campbell's gone, Jason Viera-Paul is gone, Justin Houston's gone. I mean, I'll tell you, I was doing a piece that was coming out next week for us where we're kind of looking at everybody's strengths and weaknesses, and you're on the NFC side of that, I got the AFC. I was looking at their pass rush. Who the hell is going to sack the quarterback? It's a problem. So in this conference, I just feel like, man, the AFC, if you can't get pressure, you better be able to score 30 plus because I don't hate stopping anybody. I think Baltimore is good. I just don't see them as like a Super Bowl contender, which I think is kind of where the hype has gone this year. So I love hardball as a coach. I think that they're always going to be a playoff contender. It's partially the defense, it's partially the new offensive coordinator, and it's partially being in a conference where they can win 10 games and still not make the playoffs. Yeah, you know, for me with the Ravens, I'm not going to defend them too hard because I feel like I could easily flip them with the Steelers. They're kind of even for me, but maybe just hearing you right now, Matt, you might have been higher. Lamar Jackson pushing that ball down the field, he's a good downfield passer. I know he hasn't stayed healthy the last two seasons, especially in the back of the schedule. That's brutal. For him to miss that playoff game against the Bengals a year ago, imagine he was playing, they might've won that game. But if you can't be reliable, he hasn't had the MVP year since 2019, which feels like a long time ago, but I just like that they're trying to bring that modern game of pushing the ball down the field and utilizing Lamar Jackson's strength as a passer. I think he gets overlooked in that area. But then we were just talking about Vic Fangio and how everybody's trying to counter the Vic Fangio inspired defenses by running the ball more and who runs the ball the best, the Baltimore Ravens. So maybe they're going away from it a little too early when it, yeah, so, and they were ahead of the, they were ahead of their time maybe with these defenses. And that's the way you counter them is by, you know, you know, doing the quick game and the running game, but sometimes it's good to be ahead of the curve. So who knows? Maybe now I'm going back, back and forth, now I'm going back to the Ravens because if people are all going to start doing the running game and do run heavy to counter these Vic Fangio defense, then maybe the Ravens have something brewing that could be special down the line. But again, I don't, I don't like, can I trust Rashad Bateman being healthy? Will Zay Flowers turn out to be a good first round pick? How about OBJ? Will you turn back the clock? So there's a lot of question marks where like eventually made it, they're going to be like, you know what? We tried it that way. Let's go back to all reliable and throw it to Mark Andrews, whatever, 10 times a game. Yeah. Yeah. Andrew, she's underrated. He's a fantastic tight end. Look, we're going to get nowhere surprises all leagues off. Be quick with this. I already told you. I think they're a playoffs team. Pittsburgh's my team. I kind of laid out why. I mean, I love Tomlin. I think Tomlin is a top three coach in the league with Andy Reed and Bill Belichick. Defensively man, like people don't even know how Alex Highsmith is got 14 and a half sacks last year. They have TJ Watt, they have Cam Hayward, they brought in Marcus Golden, who's a supplemental, like a good rotational pass rusher. They added Desmond King, who the Texans cut. It was one of the biggest surprise cuts of the day on Tuesday. They bring him in. They've got Joey Porter Jr., Patrick Peterson, Minka Fitzpatrick. That is, that's a damn good defense. They have guys. I mean, now the question, of course, is offensive line, how good is it? And can Pickett play? The one thing I can't stand is like false confidence. There are so many people in Pittsburgh, if you tweet out about the Steelers, or just, if you say anything bad about Kenny Pickett, or you question him in any way, the brigade comes out. It's just like, you don't understand the greatness of Kenny Pickett. It's like, I got to tell you, I watched every throw he made last year. He was a guy. He threw five touchdowns against seven picks. He spent five years in college, four of which, by the way, he was mediocre to atrocious, and then one year he was unbelievable as a senior. Fine. I obviously believe in them as a team. I think he's going to be better, but is he going to be more than a game manager? I don't know. I wouldn't go there. Now, look, he's got George Pickens, who I think you pretty much just wailed the ball downfield to him and let him go up and get it. I think the Steelers' weapons are good. Offensive lines are concerned. Pickets are concerned. I think Tomlin, who almost got duck Hodges to the playoffs years ago, can just massage it. Now, I will say, when they get to the playoffs that they do, I think a team like Cincinnati or Kansas City or Buffalo is going to put a number on them, but I think they're better than people think.

continue and now everyone's looking at Disney and saying wait a minute Disney+ can it get to the numbers that it had promised Bob chapek the CEO had promised or had forecast that it would get as many as 260 million subscribers by 2024 Without cricket I don't know if it gets there But let's be fair though The money that they would have to pay to get the rights for cricket we're talking multi-billion dollars That is a lot of money scar It is it is but they're willing to do it to get the numbers because the numbers drive the stock price And the stock price is a barometer It's reflection It's a referendum on the company and how it's being managed by bob chapek who of course took over from bob Iger and has still yet to convince investors that he's the steward for the company the way that Iger was for Disney And when I say billions we're talking about $6.2 billion Let's move on to the Baltimore Orioles Now yes of course we know the record is like but they are Fan base though They do They're fun to watch if you're a fan of the Orioles The Orioles let's say the key players involved they made a statement the family we're not leaving anywhere We're not leaving angelos is the father He's 92 years old and he's owned the Oreos for almost three decades So it's a lot of wrangling over a very valuable asset here That's kind of drumming you have when you got a lot of what you have drumming any family but when you got a lot of money you get this drama I'm taking you to court because you know you're not going to rule this baseball team that we own all of us will See this is I would like to experience that drama once Just one time But you know what They'll get this sorted out sooner or later And a big plus for John angelos is that he made a point of saying that two months ago lawmakers in Maryland passed the bill that puts aside $1.2 billion to improve Camden yards or the Camden yard sports complex because we can't just limit it to the ballpark per se "Pittsburgh Steelers safety minka Fitzpatrick just signed a four year deal $18 million a year $18.4 million a year or more and then that's $36 million guaranteed at signing. Mink of its Patrick is now the highest paid safety ever. You're going to hear that a lot, by the way, as years go on every new contract is going to be the highest paid blah blah blah ever because there's more money than ever in football. Rams wide receiver Cooper Cup signed a three year extension worth $80 million, $75 million fully guaranteed. That's a guy from my home state of Washington went to Washington when the eastern Washington University married his college sweetheart and man, it's cool to see a guy who I watched play in college at a dinky little school eastern Washington and get that much money guaranteed. Life-changing money. Hopeless brother Kutner cub is doing well. I think about him. I wonder what he's doing in life. And man, I'm happy for Cooper Cup. And then rams de tackle Aaron Donald. Got a three year $95 million deal. He is now the highest paid non quarterback of all time in the NFL. I think a title that was once given to Khalil Mack when he signed his big contract with Chicago. So money is getting thrown around the NFL. A lot of guys are getting paid. Now there are three people who have not been paid yet that want to be paid that are notable to me. Number one is bill's safety Jordan poyer? He wants a new contract. I'm not sure that Jordan poyer is going to get a new contract. He started one years old. He's scheduled to make 10.8 $1 million this fall. He will also attend mandatory mini camp. But he is not in the top ten highest paid safeties in the NFL, which did surprise me. And I think it's market values worth around $14 million a year. But he's really close to his market value. And guys like tyrann Mathieu and Marcus Williams both make $14 million a year and I don't know. I would have thought he would be one of the top ten highest paid safeties. I think he wants to be. But he's close to his market value. He's also 31 years old. I'm skeptical he's going to get paid, but I hope he does. For his sake, you only have so many years making money and when you're making ten a year, a $4 million difference makes a big deal compared to like a quarterback who makes 35 and could have gotten 40. So that's an important three to $4 million difference for Jordan poyer. I hope he gets it, but I'm not sure that he will. Now, there are two guys that are getting paid so far off of their market value that I would say they are it's almost criminal how much they deserve to be paid. They are receivers Terry mclaurin in Washington and deebo Samuel with the forty-niners. Deebo Samuel scheduled to make $3.9 million this fall. And compared to his market value, he is getting completely screwed..

"But Fitzpatrick is a guy who gets him organized on the back end, and that is a play where, you know, if he doesn't intercept it, it is probably just to throw that's not available, or at least it's a it's a contested type of play instead of that. But you know, just this steelers team, the way that you win games, they do not want to have score 27 points in the fourth quarter in order to be in a game. Stylistically, this is not how they want to play. This is not a game they probably should have one when it's all said and done, but the opportunity was there. Yeah, it is really hard to imagine that that play would have gone the same way with minka Fitzpatrick in the lineup. But that being said, the fact that they were able to muster the performance that they did until the very end that they had a chance to win this game. I mean, do you take something from that? It certainly was better than a week earlier where you have a very unsatisfying tie. Okay, a week later, you're quarterbacks coming off COVID. Like I said, you're missing three ver top defenders. Is this a galvanizing almost win or is it so such a disappointing loss because you almost had it that it ends up kind of undercutting morale? It's hard to say. And I guess that's up to Mike Tomlin's messaging in part. Yeah. I just want to point out real quick. I think the kneel downs brought the Chargers back under 8 yards per play in this game. I mean, you just look at the number, and this is 533 yards of offense for the Chargers, 300 for the Steelers. It was a fairly lopsided game outside of those two really game altering plays that they got. Yeah, I mean, and to Jenny's point like, I loved the juxtaposition between all these stoic shots of cam Hayward after the batted down pass, and it was just like those slow motion like warrior poses where he's just like, you know, like, the stele guy poses, but like, really, Justin Herbert just fired the ball off his head. Like there really wasn't like, you know, and you jumped a little bit. And I'm not discounting the fact that you're an amazing player. You know what, and he's an incredible player, and his role in that fourth down stop later on was critical. He's a great player. But in that very moment, the ball just got rocked off your helmet. And so, you know, I thought that was kind of a funny thing. One thing I did wonder about speaking of the team being shorthanded is after they make the fourth down stop of the Chargers, get the ball back in chargers territory with a couple minutes to go, the game tide. If they had nausea Harris and that at that situation, would they have been able to get the first down? Harris was in the locker room getting evaluated for concussion, which is where he should have been. Glad that they took that evaluation seriously, but I just couldn't help but wonder, Harris is then later cleared to return to the game. And I remember thinking when they were lining up on the third down, they originally didn't have a back end and they took a timeout and they came out with a back that wasn't Harris, and I just was thinking to myself. I wonder how much of a difference Harris would have made in that situation. Yeah, that was three and out there..

"Was a wild one here. Shorthanded sealers team ends up falling 41 37 to the Chargers out in LA. And we're going to talk about the ravens a little bit later. And they're kind of method of winning games. But the Steelers are a little bit similar. And this one really felt like in the fourth quarter, it was going to be one of those games for the sealer's kind of had no right winning, but they just. End up winning. They wherever they get a block pun. They get a tipped interception. That's just what the Steelers do. Yeah, I was pretty impressive that despite trailing by 17 points at one point in the game, they quickly made it interesting through a few of those plays that you described Gary. The defense was out a lot of star players Ben Roethlisberger was coming off of COVID, but they found ways to create when they could on the blocked punt. That was three rushers coming forward, one of whom hit the ball. They had the cam Hayward sort of head butts of a batted pass. I didn't realize until the replay that I actually went off of this helmet, which turned into an interception. So it was they needed like I flurry of activity in order to get back in the game and they were able to summon that, which was pretty impressive. All that being said, though, it ended up being like a very unsatisfying ending because they had done so much to get back in the game and then at one point it looked like they were going to win the game and they get the ball back after the Chargers go for it on fourth down and can't convert the Steelers get the ball back, but can't make a first down, kick the field goal and then there's a busted coverage and the Chargers score the game winning touchdown. Really interesting thing about that busted covers, right? So that was Norwood, right? Who's filling in for minka Fitzpatrick? And I would venture to say that if it's Patrick, is in on that play, he probably picks that off, right? Because if you look at how the route developed, Justin Herbert throws it as soon as it's clear that the safety is not coming down to compensate for the cornerback passing them off. But what's interesting is I think the other thing that make a Fitzpatrick noses, Mike Williams runs more go routes than any receiver in the NFL. Actually, since 2020 has run 30 more go routes than any receiver in the NFL. So what do you think he's doing in that situation? Largely. I mean, you know, they didn't deviate from the plan. You kind of figure what was going on there. And for me, you know, I know the Steelers were playing down a couple guys and, you know, certainly your most vital players, but it's interesting that that's the kind of situation you sort of found yourself in. You're putting a lot on a safety who's filling in for arguably the headiest defensive player in the NFL and the secondary. I don't know, it's just a kind of an interesting smattering of events there. Yeah, and obviously, look, no TJ watt. That's a huge impact player to be missing..

"It set up was a game. Changing and that dr last thing i want to cover was minkah fitzpatrick. Moving around that something. I have been touting for awhile last season after after the season ended on my show. Is michael beck. We were doing the curtain call. We were talking about drafting players. I talked a lot about you know if we drafted someone that could play deep zone. We could move minkah fitzpatrick around more. And that's a big deal because minka. This patrick is the defensive back with the most gravity on the field in the secondary since troy paulo gravity. What i mean is that as is. There's almost like you don't go on screen play with making his patrick android circle around him and just like like a little ghostbuster circle. Put that red line right through the middle of it. And just don't throw here right. That's fitzpatrick having player with that kind of gravity and they're just locked into deep zone. Means you just don't throw to the to the zone there in your somewhere else if you're moving him around because you've got a guy and traynor would that can fill that deep zone role in edmonds. Played a good game i. I haven't really singled him out. He didn't stand out a lot but they didn't target him. That one play where he he ran in front of the receiver to cut him off in case they were getting into the end zone on. That overthrowing ball other than that like edmunds had a good game. Played a lot of deep zone. While they're moving minkah fitzpatrick around. It was trained norwood and terrell edmonds and they didn't get beat deep. The sealer still didn't get beat deep week. One they're up to the challenge and that's awesome because that allows minkah fitzpatrick to move around more. And the more creative we can be with minkah fitzpatrick the more we fight. Hey minkah fitzpatrick is great doing this. Or he's doing that or the ability like in this game for for much of the game for minka fitzpatrick to just go over and be in zone. Wherever steph on digs like stefan digs is up on the on the right side on the inside sly and guess us in zone behind him megabits. Patrick yeah. There is a man on stefan digs pattern match on step on digs but supporting that is making fitzpatrick and stuff on digs. He got his like fifty yards. You know the old ab ab got shot down. He got fifty yards. Steadies is fifty yards as it. So i'm very pleased with. This is something to look forward to. I wanna point out that the steelers secondary is a work in progress. You're never as good as your best week. You're never as bad as your worst. Remember that you know trae norwood's going gonna struggle. There's games cameras sutton is gonna have a bad game. James pierre is going to beat things are going to happen even fitzpatrick it's the right. Don't don't expect us to be. You know the second coming of the two thousand eight steelers secondary. It's they're not there yet but they play a heck of a game to start their journey towards who they're going to be this season and that's fantastic. That is fantastic. Yes, that might be warranted. But If you criticise that play call Don't ever give the blood. So McGee, he played credit again. Stay consistent. Because if it worked And this is why I'm okay with the play call. If it worked. Brian disable, would be a king today. They were up 10. Nothing at the time. That was really a turning point in the game. Had it succeeded. They would have went on to win the football game and a day that they were not playing good offensively. And Brian Dabble, was trying to get creative. To make something work because simple was not working on Sunday. So, yes, he tried to get a little bit creative, and he reached into Bill's history to do it. Could you imagine if one of the biggest plays of the game had been the bills pulling that off and then table saying, Like, Yeah, Blood, So, McGee, Like we went. We went back. I like that. He's doing that that he's thinking that way. And I don't have a problem with it because If there's any problem I have with it. It wasn't the perfect play call for the situation. The only problem I have with it is maybe doing it against that opponent. Mike Tomlin, Minka Fitzpatrick, Cam Heyward. TJ Watt, like these are not. This is not the cast and crew. That I feel like you're likely to pull one over on. And if there's any criticism of that play call, Maybe it's that Save it for Who can you fool the Jets. You can fool the Jets Don't try to fool Mike Tomlin and Steelers, though. Maybe you can fool the Texans. You can fool Do they play the Raiders this year? That would be the team that I'd be trying to fool even though I know they won yesterday, but Like those teams. Pittsburgh is so well prepared, and they're so strong defensively. They're so smart defensively that if I have any criticism of the play called, maybe it wasn't it wasn't doing it in that situation doing it. In that game script, but maybe doing it against that opponent. See Joe my problem with the play, and it's just total credit to Dan Orlovsky on Get up. He brought up a great point is usually does you know with his telestrator and breaking down all 22 films? Was that you notice how? Who is the receiver on the play that came in motion? Mackenzie. I think it was Mackenzie McKenzie comes in motion across the formation and the defensive back doesn't follow him. So that's a cue that maybe it's not man defense and check out of it. Right. Maybe the check out of it now again, Dan Orlovsky brings up a great point. Did Josh Allen not check out of it. Was there. Not something to get out of that planet was like, all right. This is it that yes. Is all you got for this play. So was it sort of like a cross your fingers and hopes it works no matter what happens. Was there a check that didn't come out of it? I think we have a little bit of blame more so on coaching and Josh and if and if there wasn't anything to check out of it, then it goes on coaching. Whatever the breakdown in communication is there whether it's Brian Dabul, not Leading Allen know before hand like, hey, if they're in man, or if they're in zone Excuse me, Check out of it or Alan? Just not recognizing it like something did break down there. So that's a good point. Because you're right. He comes in motion and the guy that blows the play up is a cornerback. That's our defensive act that's free on the edge, and like his At that point where he's standing burritos, the only guy He needs to account for he. There's nothing else for him to do. So. I don't have a problem with the play call, but There. It's not perfect. Didn't like it against that opponent. And as you're bringing this point up about, like, what defense Pittsburgh was in, you got to check out of it at that point, Uh, DJ in Virginia, you're next up on the extra point show it's up, DJ. It's big place can turn games around now. Who makes big plays great. Athletes make big plays steelers have some great athletes particularly on defense looking at minka fitzpatrick. I think one of the best safety in the league. Tj white lot. Some guy saying he's the best player in the league quite go there yet. But but he's pretty far up there but they got that bush also. Yeah i that. That team is peppered with some great athletes. And they're gonna make some big plays and ben looked pretty good stuff a lot of questions about that offensive line. But tweed yesterday rumors of the steelers demise have been greatly overrated in there. I think for in the thick of the of the playoff race and once you get in the playoffs. I mean anything can happen. But i think they're they're gonna be right there till the end. We've got a lot of numbers. I don't i mean i have no idea four and a half pittsburgh. I almost like your number better but not quite. I see six out there who my power ratings. Come to five and a half which that's that's kind of a leap from five to six five hundred eight show up yesterday on my dies wind guard so a lot of numbers out there that are live. that'd be comfortable in pittsburgh's six. I won't be that comes away there. I expect the raiders who look pretty good and we'll get to that later But i also and i. We had the seminar here on friday. And i talked about the home. Field is almost non-existent home field advantage. So don't win like three and just go home and think that's fine. It's a lot less and the thing about the steelers. Yeah they win a lot at home but they went a lot on the road to you know so i think homefield is my standard number one and a half. I've been saying for years at washington at zero. Yeah something's zero like washington zero jacksonville's zero point washington. I feel like it's better on the road. They might be but i. Is just kind of like, what's what's the main thing you're watching for the biggest headline in this game coming up tomorrow between the Bills and the Steelers in Buffalo in Orchard Park. One o'clock kick off here on W. G. R, And the one thing that I'm really intrigued about is just how this builds defense is going to react to Matt Canada now as the offensive coordinator and just how much that he's going to try and change things up heading into this matchup with the bills. Just because last year the Steelers offense was Very much a dink and dunk offense, a very pass heavy offense, and I don't think that's necessarily what they wanted to do. But they had to play to their strengths and and and kind of Behind the weaknesses of their game, and I think a big weakness of the Steelers game was there run was the Russian attack. And you know the address that this offseason by drafting Najee Harris in the first round 24th overall in the draft, because I mean the Steelers last year word just, uh, abysmal as a running attack. They I mean, they were. They were averaging just 84 yards per game, which was I mean, by far the lowest, uh, rushing right in the NFL fairy for a Russian unit, uh, per game basis, Just a terrible Russian game. Najee Harris should help a little bit to kind of help that out and also, um, take so much pressure. Maybe off of, uh, Ben Roethlisberger having to throw a ton and we saw Ben Roethlisberger throw a lot last year. And Ben Roethlisberger only averaged about 6.3 yards per pass attempt, which was one of the worst. Uh, past per yard or past our yards per pass attempts, Uh, stats in the entire league. So I think this year my biggest or at least in this game, my biggest headline and biggest thing that I'm going to be watching for Is just how this bills defense goes out and tries to attack the Steelers offense and try and put pressure on Ben Roethlisberger and put pressure on that entire unit to To try and beat them. And, you know, last year we saw the bills. Offense struggle a little bit against the Steelers defense and the Steelers defense has been out for years. They've been very good. They've been Very reliable. And you know, it will be interesting to see just how this offense for Buffalo attacks the defense this time around and seeing if there if the bills passing attack can really take advantage of the Steelers secondary, and the Steelers secondary is still pretty darn good. You still got Minka Fitzpatrick in there, who Josh Ellen earlier this week, said You know, he's a guy that could completely flip. Take over a game plan in completely Reckon, whereas, you know. I think it was Sean McDermott, who said that t J Watt is a guy who could wreck your game plan as a guy that could get to the quarterback and T. J. Watt last year led the league with 15 Sex. So my biggest headline, though, is is really going to see how the Bills defense adjusts to a new offensive coordinator that they really never seen other than in preseason tape. And even then what is pre season could tape going to tell you about Matt Canada's offense and and and just how different the unit is going to look a little bit, Uh, going into this upcoming game tomorrow and again, We'll have coverage here on W. The next year they get bounced in the wild card, and then we know what happened. So I thought to me I didn't experience that. So with a win so people can experience that, But I thought I wonder if this is what it was like when you were there. You saw developing. You're there on the ground floor. I come to town. Especially Minka Fitzpatrick, but depth at quarterback very suspect and I would think there's going to be a lot of trouble for Pittsburgh to match up with the depth of the Bills wide receivers on Sunday. I'm not telling you anything that Brian Table doesn't know already, by the way, but yes, throw the ball. Um, make sure Josh is protected. You know, you got to worry about what Uh, Melvin Ingram is on the Steelers now this season. Um, they don't have stuff onto it. That helps, but they have a good front seven. But I think you can take advantage of the matchups with your receivers in this game plan against the Pittsburgh Steelers secondary on Sunday, which again is not a big surprise. No one expects the bills come out and try and run the ball. Right? Why come out and establish the run? I just if they were going to do that, maybe they watched the game last night and saw 700 passing yards and 100 rushing yards combined. So throw the ball there, Mr Dabble and throw it at their cornerbacks. That's improving the game. By the way. One other thing in terms of the game plan to watch out for is the Steelers offensive line. Okay, that's they blew up their line in the off season. So they're going to start a rookie left tackle. A rookie center. And a left guard who has four career starts on his resume. And the right tackle by reading this from reading all the Steelers stories this week. Jeremy, Everybody's talking about how the right tackle probably is better suited to be at the left tackle spot, but they need him on the right side, so they're going to start the rookie at left tackle. So I think You know, you have some areas of question big questions on the Steelers offensive line. That doesn't mean sacks folks, because if they're smart, they're going to have Ben Roethlisberger at the ball out in two seconds. But this could be a game where maybe Najee Harris doesn't find a lot of room to run. And maybe Rothenberger is under constant pressure because that line is a work in progress for Pittsburgh. "In the next year or two. And I've been saying this and I know it's tough right to divorce the franchise legend. And I'm not even telling you Ben's bad. I don't think Ben is a good quarterback. Not going to say he's great. I'm not going to say is very good, but he's still a good quarterback. And a lot of things down the stretch. It's kind of unfair to knock him and criticize him because they made him throw the football 50 60 times. Lot of teams aren't going to win. Throwing the football 50 60 times, let alone when you ask at 38 39 year old quarterback to do that. However, if I'm the Steelers With the expectation not being a Super Bowl championship this year and just making the playoffs, right? I don't think you can expect anything more if you're still said even the most optimistic Steelers span in the world. And let's and I know it's tough, not the factor in health with all that we just said about the Ravens. But if the Browns generally stay healthy at their main parts, the Browns are gonna win this division. So what is the best case scenario for the Steelers? They get in the playoffs as a wild card team and maybe win one playoff game. That's not Pittsburgh Steelers football. That's not the standards of a great organization. One of those iconic franchises in Pittsburgh. So the Steelers down They have it pretty much set on defense. Yes, they got to figure out Minka Fitzpatrick. There's always things you could find tune right? But they're going to have to figure out who the next quarterback is. Do I think it's doing Haskins? No. Could Dwayne Haskins be the starting quarterback next year, potentially But that's not playing number one. Maybe it's find someone in the draft. But you're not going to be picking right in the top 10, so you're gonna have to trade up Or maybe There's a lot of quarterbacks that Could be perturbed and a little bit agitated this our season. And maybe you find a way to land the Rogers A Wilson depending on what happens on the legal front. To Shawn Watson. So if I'm the Steelers You don't have to say it verbally, not to say it out loud. And say vocally, But you could think it I would go into this year as this is it for Big Ben. Because even if big Ben isn't the reason why this team doesn't make the playoffs And even a big Ben placed well this year. Big Ben's not win another Super Bowl with the Pittsburgh Steelers. So start To break down. That big piece for you That was there for so many years and find to your next guy is so you don't waste some of the young defensive players that you have. Where you have A championship defense, But your offense just isn't good enough. And in this upcoming off season, we'll see who is able to be keepers on the offensive line for the Steelers. You should remake and maybe patch up your offensive line, depending on who plays well this year. And you've got to find out or you have to. Eventually start to think who your next quarterback is. And maybe it's okay. You bring Ben back and you draft someone in the first round, and that guy sits for a year. Maybe that's a possibility. I don't know. But the Steelers don't have a long term answer at the quarterback spot right now. So it's great that they bring back T. J wide. It was a no brainer. Now you got to get the Minka Fitzpatrick contract done and squared away eventually through time. And the defense is ready to go. But the offense is not, and it's been that way. Kind of what seems like the last decade, Right? It's vacillated offense, ready to go defense, not defense, ready to go offense, not The gold is off season should be expediting the process so the defense will eventually be or the offense will eventually be at equal level of what could be a great defense. And today Marcus Peters and Gus Edwards sustained potentially significant knee injuries back to back plays. Per Ian Rapoport. Well, we have some positive news. And that's what the Pittsburgh Steelers after Big Ben basically said, pay the man. After Cam Hayward's basically said pay the man, Minka Fitzpatrick said. My contracts coming up, I'm paying attention to how the Steelers conduct business. Well, the waiting is over. T. J Watt will now be the highest paid defensive player in all of football. Adam Schefter tweeted out the Steelers and Star Pass rusher T. J Y have a mega deal. He's going to sign a four year extension worth more than $112 million. That is a little over 28 year, with 80 million fully guaranteed. At signing. So here's the thing Ryan and we discussed this right I don't care what precedents you had in the past. I don't care how you negotiation tactics are in the past. This is the best player on your defense. And the Solidified part of your your team Is your defense. You're going to be going, whether it's this off season or next off season. In a new direction because Big Ben Some think this will be his final year, maybe has one more year after this season left in it. Eventually you're going to need new faces of this organization. And Cam Hayward's a little bit older, but he's been there for a while. You got Minka Fitzpatrick, who A lot of people ripped the Steelers for making that trade because if you recall that's when Big Ben got hurt, and was out for most of the season and played in a game and a half Lot of people thought that draft pick was going to be a top 10 pick Steelers. They missed the playoffs that year, but they did go eight and eight. And Minka Fitzpatrick. We all saw what he's able to do. He is such a tremendous football player. So you have right. What who is now taking care of? Minka is the next guy up. You have some other really strong pieces on the defensive side of the ball. And never. I was never a doubt, right? If this deal was going to get done, it was just when this deal was going to get done. And sometimes, right. Right before a deal gets done there started negotiation tactics that are played out to expedite the process. Or maybe try to drive up the price and pinch every penny for your client that you can And that's why there are sometimes, uh, an uproar if it's fair to say And there's a lot of news 72 hours before you get the announcement of the mega deal that we ended up seeing today Now, in other cases, the uproar is actually genuine. The deal doesn't get done. Then it turns contentious. But when you have not only Ben Because I know Ben runs that organization. Ben, though, is only going to be there for another year or two. When you have Ben, say something, it does carry weight. You could, though maybe look into the future and go well, his voice is going to start to Matter less and less because you're not going to be part of the team. When you start to have Cam Heyward, who should be on this team. For the foreseeable future. And you also have Mika Fitzpatrick who really should be on this team for the foreseeable future. Start to speak. Yes, in the moment. Those words may not matter. The most. But you can look at it and go. This is kind of a core that you want to keep together for the future of this football team because the Steelers are always going to be solid, right? Not only are they a tremendously run organization, but with that defense even when you lose your quarterback, and for that year you had to go with duck Hodges quack quack! And Mason Rudolph. They were able to go in and eight because of the championship caliber defense that they had. Here's the part, though with the Steelers. At least in the last decade, and I don't know if you feel this way or not, Ryan But this is the way that I observe it whenever the offences killer, right When you had the killer bees of Ben Bell and Brown, the defense stunk. Then when the defense gets really damn good. The offense is not up to part And I know last year, right? The offense got off to 11 or no start. But as the season did go on, you started to realize Wow, there's no run game there. And now going into this year. Yes, you did. Draft Najee Harris. Ben is another year Older Juju Smith. Schuster is back. He's not a number one wide receiver Chase Claypool at a solid rookie season. And you look at that offensive line. No more Pouncey at the center. No more big al villain the waiver at the tackle spot. You got Zach Banner coming off the injury where he went down last year up against the Giants early on in the season. There are significant concerns with the offense. Yeah, You got some pieces, right? Ben is not going to be horrible. I don't think Ben's going to be great. Najee Harris. I like the draft pick out of Alabama. Juju will be fine Chase Claypool. We'll see if he could take the next step after a very impressive rookie campaign. But I look at the Steelers. Can they make the playoffs this year? Yeah. Maybe now with the Ravens Injury news. Maybe the Steelers end up being the second best team in this division. But I'm still wondering long term. When are we going to get to that point when we look back at the Steelers and go? Wow, This is the big bad Pittsburgh Steelers. This is the Pittsburgh Steelers. That when you go into a season, you expect the Super Bowl. Because it hasn't been that case for a while now. And I know Ben 12. And He was never able to get that third one. With Antonio Brown and also Levian Bell. And this offense is going to really get a face list. In the next year or two. "And how the Steelers air in that no man's land type of territory where they're not awful. They're not Super Bowl worthy. You can make an argument that will make the playoffs. You could make an argument that they'll miss the playoffs Eileen more towards on the side right now that they will make the postseason. However, I have zero expectation. Other than that. You know if you kind of look at it right now. And I know they shouldn't be the case, especially when you pay a quarterback. The second most average annual value in the league. Isn't Dallas the same type of team? Aren't the Cowboys kind of a no man's land territory to the defense stinks. They're kind of like the opposite of the Steelers. The Steelers have a great defense. The Cowboys have a terrible defense. The Cowboys have what you think can be a very much so prolific passing offense. The Steelers offense the line is shaky. And you also have zero run game. Really. Dallas needs to have a trade with Pittsburgh at Dallas and Pittsburgh SWAT teams. That could be a Super Bowl team. Maybe that's the only way Jerry Jones will be able to win another Super Bowl ring. Hey, calls up the Steelers Kevin Colbert. Just need to trade my defense for your defense and Kevin Colbert would laugh him off the phone because the Cowboys defense stinks. And the Steelers defense is actually really good with T. J Watt. And you got Devin Bush and you got Minka Fitzpatrick? And you got Cam Heyward and so on and so on. That would actually be a great trade for the Cowboys. If they could do that. It would be instant upgrade. Take the staples, but it out, slap it. That was easy when I look at the Cowboys, though. The Cowboys are gonna be horrible. This year. The Cowboys aren't going to be great. And when you look at Dallas I personally am a fan of Dak Prescott. I think it's a good quarterback, and we'll see if we could become greater currently think he's a top 10 quarterback in the league. When I look at Dallas, though, what's the expectation this year? Sure you start off with one in the division are they lock to win the division? I can't call them a lot. Personally, I would go with them over Washington's football team. It would not surprise me, though. Washington's football team did win the division. And even if the Cowboys do win the division They're sealing is what Win a playoff game You can't go into this year. If you're a Cowboys fan thinking that you're Super Bowl team you can't go into this year for your Cowboys fan thinking that Really you guys could do anything more than just winning a playoff game. So the Steelers to May Are in that no man's land territory and also the Cowboys for this upcoming season. Give you a few more teams, and I'm going to kind of try to just associate also with some big name quarterbacks. How about Matt Ryan with the Falcons? So the Falcons right now have a new regime. Terry Fontinot. The Falcons right now also hired Arthur Smith. They were a team that used to be in the playoffs here after you have two year got two Super Bowl, then got to the playoffs that the year after that. You know they were building something and then the wheels really did fall off. The wheels started to fall off when they were 28 to 3 in the Super Bowl.
