That's Nevada Secretary of State Barbara Cigar. SKI. Joe Biden won Nevada by over 33,000 votes. The House and Senate are out this week for the Thanksgiving holiday, but they're holding pro formas sessions every few days today in the House chaplain, Father Pat Conroy opened the session in prayer, beseeching some assistance and guidance during the presidential transition period give to us and Vivid sense of your presence that we may learn to understand each other to respect each other to work with each other and to live with each other and to do good to each other. So shall we make our nation great in goodness and good and its greatness plus those involved with the transition process of the executive branch? We thank you that once again we are showing the world the benefits of peaceful transition with changes in power and leadership. Like Monday, Senator Dianne Feinstein of California, the ranking Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, announced that she would not seek to retain her leadership in the next Congress, saying that quote I look forward to continuing to serve as a senior Democrat on the judiciary, Intelligence appropriations rules committees. As we work with the Biden administration, covering the story for Huffpost is sending a current this this move by Dianne Feinstein not entirely unexpected. What were some of the forces at work that may have helped her with her decision. Hi. Right. So, basically Feinstein's, um, her statement, notably when she was announcing that her she was intending to step down after the legislative session from her post. The reason she gave was that she wanted to focus more on Burst into California and how it's quite a change is impacting it through the wild fires and drought. So notably, the senator did not mention in her statement. Anything about what? Actually likely lead to her stepping down, which is a zoo. Most of us can probably guess her handling of the Supreme Court. Justice Amy Cockney barrettes Senate confirmation hearing back in October, Um you know, Cockney, Barrett was viewed as an extremely conservative justice and Democrats were preparing to play hardball. But Feinstein kind of essentially undermined that plan by handling Cockney barrel with kid gloves. She was telling her. She's impressed with her answer, Um, which, as everyone who watched the hearings, no Cockney buried and really answer anything, And she also kind of undermined other Democrats by being very, extremely warm to Chairman Lindsey Graham, who had already broken his promise of not pushing through a Supreme Court justice nominee. On an election year. She also she even hugged him on camera her compliments to him about how he handled the hearing's slightly helped Republicans, especially Graham, who is up for re election in a tight race against Jamie Harrison in South Carolina. Later on. Oh, yes. How quickly after the the hearings were over. Do you think the progressive groups were were pressuring Democratic Senator Schumer, the Democratic lever leader to make some changes on judicial at least talk to Dianne Feinstein about that. I think it was pretty soon actually after her. I think her warmness toward Lindsey Graham was maybe the tipping point. I know many progressive. We're already kind of upset that her behavior during the hearing but the congratulating of Republicans for such a hearing. Really pushed a lot of progressive to ask humor to give her out what Schumer called the long and serious talk and it, you know, a month after that, and she has announced that she's stepping down, But she was. The senator was criticized as you point out that this hearing, but she's also was criticized for the way that she participated. In the cabin all the bread capital confirmation hearings a couple of years ago. Why is this this leadership position the Democratic leadership position in the Judiciary Committee so important? This leadership position is extremely important, especially going in to the Bison administration because a zoo we've seen throughout Trump's administration. We have seen a ton of court confirmations, not just the Supreme Court, but Federal courts all over the country on Dad having the Senate he controlled by the GOP. Beyond that, a lot of feeds. Judicial nominees get confirmed to lifetime appointment. And so it's incredibly important for Democrats on this committee to play hardball and to say that we need to put a stop to this which, as you mentioned Dick Durbin is kind of in the running for that, and he has expressed in His announcement that he plans to play hardball about the court confirmations. How do you think those progressive groups who are critical of Dianne Feinstein View and Dick Durbin and might there be other challenges for that ranking Democrat position? Um, I'm not sure about how many others are challenging it. I know Senator White House is kind of next in seniority. Um, But what Progressives I think are more concerned about right now is the overall tradition of using seniority in order to determine leadership. I know that at least the sunrise movement who has been a climate organization. They've already been very critical of Dianne Feinstein's I guess opinion on the green new deal on how she handled a lot of youth climate activists demanding she but yes, on it. They have said that you know, not only do they want mind trying to resign. But they would also want trucks humor to be able to kind of re evaluate the whole tradition of people. Who are not who are senior to just automatically get a leadership position instead of the people who maybe debut as more qualified. One more thing senator fired. Feinstein is 87 years old. She's the second longest center serving senator. How much did you think? Age played into into her decision not to lead the committee of for the Democrats. I do think there was maybe some influence on that. I think, especially as a lot of progressives, maybe without particularly saying that age is a big factor. You know it. I think a lot of people were saying that because she is 87. She's been in there for so long that you know it's kind of water down her ability to, uh, play that hard ball against people She's also worked with on the other side of the aisle for so long. Um, And I think it's important to note that you know, it's not that she's leaving Congress right now. It's just that she's leaving that leadership position and plants do not seek other leadership positions. But that does not mean that she is not a senior Democrat who will still be pushing for the issues. She's finding important. Such an occurrence covers news and politics in the nation's capital for huff post and you can follow her reporting on Twitter at Sun Jin. A car this Thank you so much for joining us. Thank you. And in the White House today at mid day, President Trump made a very brief appearance in the press briefing room to town, a booming stock market and more positive news on the vaccine front from several vaccine developers. Thank you very much, and I just want to congratulate everybody. The stock market Dow Jones Industrial Average just said 30,000, which is the highest in history. We've never broken 30,000, and that's just despite everything that's taken place with the pandemic. I'm very Thrilled with what's happened in the vaccine front. That's been absolutely incredible. Nothing like that has ever happened medically, and I think people are acknowledging that and it's having a big effect. But the stock market's just broken 30,000 never been broken that number that's a sacred number 30,000. Nobody thought that ever see it. That's the ninth time since the beginning of 2020, and it's the 48th time that we've Broken records in during the Trump administration, and I just want to congratulate all the people within the administration that works so hard. And most importantly, I want to congratulate the people of our country because there are no people like you. Thank you very much, Everybody. Thank you..

So let's ask rabbi black of temple Emanuel Friday morning at eight oh five year on six thirty K Hal. Twenty two minutes after I'm John Kelly era in for the recovering in recovery. That is. Michael brown. Give me a call three zero three seven one three eight two five five seven one three talk. I thought I'd walk out just a little bit. So I'll beg your patience. There are so many weird things about how taxes are done. Whenever you buy something, you pay a tax, and it's a real pain because there's a state income there's a state sales tax, and then there's a local tax, and there might be a city tax. You might be in a special district may have tax. But something happens when you go to Jake jabs, and you buy a couch, and they're going to deliver it they ask you where you live. One for the delivery and to because they've got a charge you a different rate and things are about to get worse. There's a great little organization called the NFL national federation of independent businesses. Tony gangway already runs that outfit here in Colorado. Tony, thanks for joining us. I appreciate it. Thank you, John. Great to be on with you. Hey, explain what is about to explode for small business owners when it comes to this issue of of figuring out who to pay sales tax to. I mean, the the end customer just pays you some money. But if you're a businessman. You got to send the right money to one of potentially hundreds of different governments in Colorado explained it to me. Well, John is up until recently if I went into low and purchased a table saw. And took delivery, right? They're loaded in my car. Brought it home. Then lunch. We charge me the sales tax for where I'm at. That makes sense. Right. Yeah. Let's see. I'm at the store at eight the end Sheridan. They recharge me as the shelves taxi charge me west ministers tax. It would charge me the RTD tax and the science and cultural facilities district hacks. Yes, they're part of that. Well onto timber eleven. Department of revenue put out a news release. Saying that the department of revenue we choir out of state retailers who do business in Colorado to pain, a state of Colorado sales checks. Supposedly, this was all wrapped around the recent supreme court decision on South Dakota versus fear. This is. So if somebody if somebody's selling me something, and I'm in Colorado, they're out in California. They're supposed to they're supposed to at least pay the Colorado tax. Now, they've got a figure out fifty different tax codes around the country. Really? Yeah. So if they had an agreement. Before the court case, it was you don't we want you to collect ourselves tax. There was no requirement. And it was referred to his nap sister. By didn't have a physical presence in Colorado. I was not required to collect sales tax. What was left at the customer in Colorado claim it on their tax return to as they use the purchase. Which of course, we all did religiously we wouldn't do such a thing. So department of revenue issues says. Crash release that require out of state sellers to collect sales tax. And what the Wayfair case did is fair case the court ruled that South Dakota. Canned require out of state seller to collect the state sales tax whether they had an access to the state or not. So that that's that. Well, then. Long about September twenty six one of our members receives a letter stating notice -nificant changes coming to Colorado hills tech affected, December purse, the Colorado department or rabbit. Ill will adopt Michelle tax rules under a emergency rules procedure. That will require beginning December first Assabil goods are delivered to Colorado. The retailers textures diction retailer now must collect the shells tax and all taxes. Where that product's going to be delivered? Why is that such a big deal? I'm I'm I'm missing the point here. Why why why should we get excited because if I'm buying something online, and they're going to ship it to me that they've got to pay the local taxes here as well. Sure. And and that's a great question. But here's what happens currently. We have seven hundred different taxing district in Colorado. Colorado is rated at almost the top of the list for having the most complicated sales tax collection and remittance to process any state, the United States, and Colorado is the only state that has not signed onto the streamlined sales tax. Shows agreement. So what this means by December first every little retailer Princeton. They have a member down in del Norte, Colorado that sells funny all over that part of the state. So he's cells into shame mineral county now he's got to collect mineral counties. Taxes? Mineral county has one zip code. However there seven seven different taxing district. Were about ready to about ready to hit heartbreak here. But tony. The upshot of this is it it's going to get very confusing for particularly mom and pop businesses who can't keep up with all this bureaucracy. What's what's the answer? Absolutely. What we are asking for is delays. It's impossible..
