"Wall of different things going on for whatever reason at this point Bruce chris wa at this raw here and chris jericho they take on triple h in stone cold. You would think man big time match at this point but in terms of ratings where we're at it's a it's a four point two rating and and in this moment in history tied for the lowest rating since nineteen ninety nine The last time that would have happened. Then it was a four point two Is this a reality check. I guess at this point for the creative team for events for for the team in general. I think it's more of a reality check from the point of when you look at those ratings conran. I talked about this last week. When you look at those ratings from the past and look at some of the astronomical numbers there there is a theory. I don't know how true it is. I think when you want to brag goma god. We had ten million people. You know that we're watching us at one time But when you start to dig a little bit deeper you realize this actually ten million or is this maybe five duplicated somewhere not sneezing at five but there that beg the question that was more of the reality check of the weren't six million fans just went away five million fans or four million fans or whatever the hell anybody wants to claim and it was just was that dot com of trying to figure it out and i think that we were all still trying to figure it out. Yeah i mean think about it. Ratings have continued to evolve even now the big changes and streaming and everything that happens in today's world so a lot of different ways to measure it. So let's get back here. It's been long rumored that the push you mentioned. Paul heyman getting involved in creative around this time that there was a push for ben wa and jericho and that that came from paul. What say you on this topic. I call definitely voices. Binion ball was big fan of ben. Juan jericho both. I think that You know there was a new voice and somebody to listen and say okay what what's happening over here One way or another you know the the end result was still going to be creative as it was from nineteen eighty-seven what it was now in two thousand and one still you know went through events and we still pitched events and your name on it but Was paula fan. "A community of entrepreneurs planted happy on the show again Right in front first. Tell us, though. What is it a social media influencer. So a social media influencer is anybody that can that has an audience and that has a platform on which they can then share some sort of expertise, advised share brands that they're interested in. Share. Fun, fax tricks, tips really anything to do with the space that they've chosen, you know, to make themselves an influence our tastemaker or an expert, and I have a lot of followers. Lucky on these followers, Khun B. Across social channels, You know, we see some that are huge on Snapchat and some that have a larger instagram Following and some not have built most of their loyal followers on their blogged on beacon spread across across platforms and also across industry. Summer more experts in overall lifestyle, summer wellness health, fitness, fashion, You name it. There's an influence industry that I'm inside. Not very well. Most of my friends have 100, thousands and millions of Dollars, some only on their website blog's email list some on the social media platforms, one such meter platform, so I know well, so how does somebody find and reach out to these social media influencers? Let's just break it down through the steps here. Totally So I think number one is determining your own audience. So as a brand as a product who is your demographic, is it man is that women is our age group. Are there specific interests? Getting really, really clear on your audience is step number one on DH. Step Number two is starting to, you know, do a little bit of research and social media influence is even the right move. Even the right move for you. I think that Influencers are essentially like the new wave of media. I think that their new everything from brand Ambassador Teo You know, marketing tactic they have an audience built in. Most of them have people that are dedicated that are interested in what they're trying to say, and the advice that they're sharing on. I think that it's you know, a better way of doing it. Burst is going Through all these different routes and trying to put out advertising, you know, here and there and whatnot. You know that these This is an audience that people are captivated and they're interested and they care what you know A person is sharing. And I think that oftentimes it's better to have your brand message communicated through somebody else because it's easier to believe them versus you constantly trying to push out like we have the best product in one of these for you exactly. Number one is, you know, influence. There is definitely a good way to go. Number two is really trying to find them. And I think that you know you can obviously look it up. You can come. You can do a little bit of research. You could ask your friends kind of take polls on who people are engaging with and following, But a lot of it, too is going, Tio. There are agencies now that, you know, specialized in helping you find the right influencers for your brand. I think part of it is kind of Ah, no brainer and using some common sense to just look at their channels and, you know, see who really resonates with you and who speaks to you? Because chances are you're putting yourself in the mindset of your brand and your consumer. Then you're going to be able to tap into something that you're consumers will to identify the right type of person. But I also think some of it is going outside. Resource is you know, such as Agencies and what not and letting them kind of steer the ship on DH helpyou. And there's also a lot of online platforms. Now, you know, there is reference and insta brand and all of these companies that are trying to cut out the middleman and trying to make it easier for you. The brand to connect with influence a lot of other now that connect the dots for you found CEO of something Social. Caligula Denko is joining us. This is business rock stars on Mark lack. We're here to inspire and form and connect a community of entrepreneurs. Today. We're talking about how you can use social media influencers to help grow your business and your brandy gone over some great things so far, but I think the question going on most of his mind's. How much is this gonna cost s O. That is obviously a very good question. And I think that the start of big, but I think the starting point is getting your mind wrapped around the fact that this is marketing. This is advertising. And so it's an investment and the old way of thinking wise. Well, can I just give them free product or I don't really need To pay these people. But at the end of the day, there are business, too. And so I think that number one is shifting the mindset and understanding that these bloggers and these influences and these people, it's their job and it's their business now to communicate the brands that they feel, you know, resonate with them in their brand, so that's kind of step number one is getting past the mindset of I can throw free product at them, and they're going to talk about my brand spending a lot of times, winning that free products and the people that are legit friends at at that level, they're getting packages everything, and then they just gifted to people and they give people their office. They give it to people like friends and family. And so I mean, that's one way on dope. Feli. If they really love your product, and it's something that they used, they might post it. Not but the day I agree. You have to get over the mindset of like Do I really want to pay somebody right? If it's legit, it could be a great investment will pay a lot larger return, and I think it's I think you're a It's something you have to think like. Would you pay for an ad in a magazine? Yes, you would never expect someone to run something for free just out of the kindness of their hearts Think that I think that that's number one and you're going to get out of it. What you put into it. We like to say it's also quality over quantity sometimes, and sometimes it's the reverse. So when I say that I really mean that there are a lot of influencers that have Few 1000 all the way up to a few million followers on we kind of like to target this power middle, which we feel has more engagement. Their fans are still more interested in what they're saying. Sometimes not always the people that are in the millions fans of kind of written off because they know that everything is you know, a branded opportunity a pain opportunity on less really that point. Exactly. And I think that you know when you think about okay, who are the people that I follow in that I care about a lot of them are going to be people that you know, or that have kind of like Mid tier audience where they're not fully in the paid opportunity round 50,000 to a few 100 a few 100,000. Yeah, I know usually still like, didn't by God. And how do you know the way that you know? This is like, at least like the simple one is Just look at the engagement there if they have 150,000 followers, but they have zero likes comments shares very little for 100,000. If you have, like 1500 friends on Facebook post something and you get 100 likes 100,000. Even though the algorithm on the Facebook page doesn't reach everybody just, you know, hundreds of followers post something It's not going to reach Ramallah. It was it is it like less than 5% of love That fantastic advice as always, when you come on the show, Thank you. Thank you. Marka Lack. Beauty Biz blog became so popular that it served as a jumping off point for Weiss's startup for years later now only in her mid thirties. Why's presides over a privately held business worth more than a billion dollars at its most recent valuation last year? Notably glossiest uses its fan base as a test bed for new products. The close relationships it has with fans informed the company's. That means fans helped glossy make decisions on everything from what kind of moisturizer to release to the environmental impact of its ingredients to it stands on social issues. Although hundreds of brands or making statements in promising donations, glossy as million dollar pledge definitely made waves that's in part because glossy is still a small company relative to industry giants, like Lori Al and also because it was the first substantial pledge of support from a beauty company that's according to glossy an unrelated industry blog. That blog noted that glossy as million dollar pledge was the largest from the beauty industry announced to that point glossy noted. Noted that it's equivalent to what some of the largest tech companies like Intel promised, but it was glossy as pledged to help black-owned beauty businesses that really sparked interest. There's a growing understanding that helping businesses thrive creates an economically positive ripple effect. Harper's bazaar noted that glossy offered the grants without worrying that doing so could create new rivals for the company itself reporter Becky.

the average fan just says are what do you have for me seventeen games okay how many home how many away and what he's doing with the seventeen game post season wild card weekend how many games are gonna be wild card weekend other net I don't know if the average fan cares about anything else I don't I don't care how much you make and I for the most part I don't think we care that an NFL player makes whatever remix now you have kirke cousins that we do care because he was the first guy to get guaranteed money and then everybody said Kirk cousins getting eighty four million dollars guaranteed I mean he's in two years he's not even gonna be close to being the highest paid quarterback in the game but Patrick Mahomes I don't think anybody cares to be gets forty million dollars now I know cowboy fans care about dak Prescott because you're still not sold on it and he's going to hurt you hear that salaries gonna Benchley heard you trying to keep the team together but I think given the brutality of the sport it's rare when you really question how much a rock you know Todd Gurley with what he's getting paid I think we question it because he's not healthy thank you you're running back we've we tend to look at go is he worth like Ezekiel Elliott I never would have given it a second contract but that's just me at that position but for the most part baseball we always go are you kidding me that guys making that much like Bryce Harper's Macon Mike trout's making yeah Gerrit Cole's gonna make X. number of millions purchased month or something but it's not a physical sport there that's what basketball when you go John wall is going to make forty two million dollars in a year yeah we have a problem with that Allen Crabbe is gonna make you know thirty million dollars then we have a problem with that football I have no problem with that whatsoever yeah the gloves I mean some of these deals for baseball that's like the GDP of a small country with these guys are making life for orange you said four hundred million today for trout or something maybe five hundred a couple years but sounds ludicrous you have one hundred and sixty two games right so if I look at the the fan base the number of fans are going to come and see you number of people watching on TV for one hundred and sixty two games as opposed to now seventeen games but the NBA is eighty two games so I basically doubled this season for Major League Baseball and that's why you're getting those salaries you know the NBA deal that was a crazy deal because you have to yet you'll have to allocate a certain amount of money to these players so you start to divvy it up if you have thirteen or fourteen guys on the roster you're gonna be spent a lot of money on guys that don't you would think deserve that kind of money yep yeah you talk about the difference between baseball and football the Los Angeles Dodgers had four million fans come to the games last year the rams had six hundred thousand fans by I'm sorry five hundred forty thousand for the entire season there's only a home gives him a five hundred forty thousand people bought tickets to the games four million bought tickets to the Dodger games there's a lot of revenue yes my club my dad had a fellow bigger national TV money like by far I don't MLB has big so there's somebody made up that way you're right but I don't care what Patrick Mahomes make I don't care what Aaron Rodgers makes I don't care what Ben Roethlisberger makes I don't care what Adam Phelan makes Joey Bosa Nick I don't care it feels like that whatever you make in that sport god bless you yes the club if fans only care when they mess up your salary caps you can't sign another good player or you have to let someone go and that's the problem that people have with what dak Prescott's doing because the appearance is Hey you're being greedy even though he's probably just saying look I'm going for market value here I I text with the source last night I said what is the Miami Dolphins said to Jerry Jones Hey we'll give you two first round picks for dak Prescott what would Jerry Jones do because to build a successful team nowadays you have that quarterback who's not a financial drain if you said to Jerry Jones right now you can get to a and another one another another first round draft pick for dak Prescott and my friend who is it been a scout said I think Jerry Jones would seriously contemplate that just because it would be I I don't have to worry about this salary I get to a some people think it's still the best quarterback in this draft and now I get him on that rookie salary and now I got a chance to keep everybody yeah I'm a clever way which packs because I got five eighteen twenty six you're talking about the five right five definitely because you got to got to yeah I think that's a good poll question would you do five in say twenty I don't want to do I done did I just propose this to a scout and I just said Hey what do you think about this because at some point Jerry's going to go Hey this is crazy you know I don't want to spend that kind of money we want to keep you up but I I don't spend that kind of money yeah Jerry Jones a seventy seven and he's got more money than everybody and he's gonna restart at the quarterback position it does seem realistic I know if you know from a business plan getting a quarterback on a rookie salaries great but seventy seventy one so I'm not saying he's he's in on the outside I propose this I I just I'm trolling right now man yeah you you're suggesting is that I give up Jack you when your day in it yes but there's he's sort of on the fence with day ask anyway I can a dating a little bit what if I don't get why not get the new young guy if I said you could have Jack Prescott or you could have to a hot hand I thought I would take two and the number one in another first round draft pick hahahahahaha absolutely absolutely that's how you keep a team together I kinda love it yes we love that I I. Gerry love stars you can he kill at all that is boring no offense he's a sufficient I I'm just done I find this out there and see you know proposed idea there there's no there's no substance to this other than my curiosity yes the Dan Patrick report I know is what I just heard sources close to Dan Patrick say yeah no I'm not doing that but I just I wondered about that couple other things Joe burrow I guess put everything to rest right so I I'm not gonna bring it up anymore no matter what he says I'm not going to read into it other than I will say the following I do believe Joe burrow keeps it vague enough that's it just vague enough that may be that's all just maybe you know when when he said I have leverage you know what is leverage was according to Joe burrow I don't have to throw at the combine leverage how many quarterbacks have said I'm not throwing you throwing your pro day you don't go to the combine to throw so I I I'm not buying the leverage thing I don't have to throw yep the one click I heard later yesterday was they asked over why he's not been more committal to the dots to the bangles he's at I don't want to be presumptuous I don't want to talk about myself as if I'm the number one overall pick because it's unknown right now because I know the mock drafts and this and that but I don't wanna be the guy saying yes hi they should take me I should do this he was he was trying to play it would have you believe or not that you want to be presumptions and cocky all right but he is cocky but in this case I think he's just being vague I'm not that's all now I assume he's going there I assume the bangles are going to take him and this will be a footnote for the you know after it's all said and done yes Mickleham I heard the I don't want to be presumptuous thing but every other quarterback who's ever gone number one is handle that question way better you know without being presumptuous that sounds ridiculous I I've been cues accused of you know analyzing every single word I I'm just gonna tell you what I thought when he said at the Superbowl when he said he had leverage the factory as Carson Palmer's brother working with him she J. Horstman Zada who is the one who came out with the quote and said it you know something about the dolphins maybe the dolphins would trade up to get Joe burrow so those are words by other people not Joe burrow other people I just think he's kept it vague enough that maybe something happens come draft done does somebody's going to go up in the draft because the giants in the in the lions are open for business and if true is healthy Justin Herbert to me is the wild card folks I was told that last night Justin Herbert's the wild card because it it feels like somebody gonna fall in love with every year somebody is going to fall in love with Justin Herbert because we talk about borough and two others and you know it's like Daniel Jones Mitchell Trubisky somebody falls in love and I think it's gonna happen again this year I know Washington is going to settle in this feels like chase young is who they're going to take and the bangles taking Joe burrow then it gets interesting with what the lions in the giants do even though Dave Gettleman yesterday the giants he never trades down but he said we're open for business and I would be too if I'm the giants because you need some help there also the cam Newton situation I don't believe it for a second that he's going to be their starting quarterback coming up this next season at least not now I think they said all the right things the cam wanted to hear he just wanted to know is there any you know give me give me some sign here with the organization just because Matt rule says that I don't believe new owner new coach new offense of coordinator and the approach for twenty twenty in my opinion I think they're rebuilding and why my rebuilding with a rebuild quarterback that to me doesn't make sense who's thirty going on thirty one years of age I love cam I don't think he's the right person for this job but got a lot of topics to dive into coming up next lebron any surprise that he put up forty last night was I on in the building absolutely positively not in Zion had thirty nine lebron was going to get forty in Zion had forty lebron was gonna get forty one in silent echoed what I've been telling you about lebron this season he's underestimated he's underrated he's putting up a great resume to win the MVP in the fact that he hasn't won one since twenty twelve twenty thirteen I'm going to champion the cause here you need a break yeah he needs to have something go his way I'm gonna champion for lebron winning the MVP bill Pulaski if you haven't heard about lebron James I'll tell you all about him coming from bill Pulaski from the LA times will join us we'll talk about that plus the emotional send off for Kobe and his daughter this past week at staples that'll be coming up next year will settle on poll question your phone calls are always welcome twenty after the hour this is the Dan Patrick show you will hear something amazing discover matches all the cash back you earn on your credit card at the.

"Into this topic in the first hour will circle back around to it in just a second the identification of the core five for the bangles we've we've done this in some way shape or form all the way back to the early two thousands and I I think it it takes on greater significance this year as I think it offers some context into where this franchise is and where it needs to go but I want to add this in the conversation to begin the hour and maybe get some conversation going on this with you I I love surveys and polls and I and I love trains and I and I I love specifically when they relate to how we consume sports and imagine there was a fantastic piece of the athletic week ten days or so ago about a social psychologist named rich Luker and he began tracking sports fandom yeah in the U. S. through this portable it's called Luker on trends sports pull and the the major league of ranger and major league sports they subscribe because it's valuable information of of developing trends in our consumption of sports in attendance and and the effect of technology and in this piece it details a couple of different aspects that I thought were worthy of discussion in maybe reaction to and goes back to two thousand and ten when he saw all the the seismic change that started taking place with the spread of the smartphone and how the smartphone took the internet off the desk in into our hands and the impact it has had on sports in how we consume sports and it's reference in the piece that Major League Baseball attendance was down again in twenty nineteen in fact if you go back from to two thousand and seven baseball attendance is off over eleven million fans since two thousand seven but he pointed out of the peace this is it it's not a baseball probably said his words it's it's a blockbuster problem it's a tower records problem it's a borders bookstore problem he said there's so many ways that the internet has changed the way we spend our free time it affects all of sports and he looked at the issue of consumer habits in couple there is a way to get into the first part of the hour he mentioned that attendance is not necessary requirement to be fair and that in the case of Major League Baseball sixty percent of baseball fans who have a favorite team are displaced meeting they live outside of the home market of their favorite team think about that I was talking with a cutting he down the hall production the other day about he's a Detroit Red Wings fan hockey and we were talking about how easy it is in this day and age to be afraid of a team elsewhere you are not locked into the city you living in there is not that that necessary commitment to the team in the city you live it or if you happen.
China & the NBA
"The conflict with China escalating today the US adding some more companies now it's blacklists in China scrapping the broadcast of NBA Games over the Houston Rockets GM tweet which we talked a lot about yesterday yesterday we filled you in on the surprising feud between the NBA in China to recap last Friday Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey tweeted in support of the Hong Kong antigovernment protesters which quickly prompted backlash in China the NBA released a statement condemning the tweet which Maury has since deleted then yesterday NBA Commissioner Adam silver defended Moore's right to free speech in an interview in Tokyo and then there's the financial fallout to the business of Basketball Chinese state media CCTV and tech giant tencent which owns the digital streaming rights for the NBA in China suspended broadcast of NBA Games they're Chinese smartphone maker Vivo is putting its partnership with the League on ice and the term Houston Rockets is no longer searchable on China's lard just shopping sites Alibaba and JD DOT COM squawk continues to follow this story closely here's the latest from our reporter Unit Hyun in Beijing Foreign Ministry today a kind of gave a hint probably about how they feel about the US's involvement or at least the NBA's comments about Hong Kong in a statement it said about a completely different subject and that is the the US Commerce Department's decision to expand the blacklist of four some of the Chinese he's firms because of the Muslim population in the Far West essentially China said the US should stop interfering in Chinese affairs there's in other words they want the trump administration and the US more broadly to but out of their business guys hey very quickly just in the last ten minutes or so Adam silver has made some comments you mentioned that he's in Asia he's trying to take this on and it's a delicate dance he said first of all we'd like those to the NBA connected to the NBA to be sent live to other people's cultures he said we regret that we have upset millions and millions of fans but obviously trying to walk a fine line he's also saying he's not apologizing for Houston general manager reciting his freedom of expression huge issue because obviously an American league but in China they have a believe double the number of fans that there are in just in terms of people of the United States something like six hundred million fans are more in China and so it's obviously a huge market for them but try to walk a pretty fine line with some of these comments that he's he's coming out with this morning yeah that's right and I think it's a fine line that the NBA has to walk and Chinese companies as well because right after ten cent made that announcement that they were going to cut ties or suspend ties with the NBA there was a lot of discussion online here about how ten cents had just recently inked a very huge deal to get the rights I mean some people were saying like one point five billion dollars that hasn't been confirmed for five year deal to air NBA Games and the most cut like the the the comment that that you could see the most is that insent decided to choose life instead of money and that was kind of a hint that a lot of companies if you want to do business in China you have to fall in line with what Beijing wants
