War of Words Between Royal Family, Harry and Meghan Heats Up

"In laws. Meghan Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, stepped back from their royal duties last year. Now she has given an interview to Oprah Winfrey on CBS that is critical of the royal family. I don't know how they could expect that after all of this time, we would still just be silent if there is an active role that the firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us, and if that comes With risk of losing things. I mean, I've there's a lot that's been lost already by the firm. She means the royal family Now just is that interview was released. News reports have spread that the royal family was investigating accusations that Megan Bullied staff So let's talk about all this with the British historian Kate Williams. Welcome to the program. Hello? How serious these accusations these accusations of bullying? Well, they are. They came out just this week. They are saying that Meghan Woz You know, they're members of female members of staff and one of the words that was in the email that was given to our Times newspaper was the duchess or has to have someone in her sights. And of course, many people have said, Why have they come out now? Why all of a sudden just for Meghan how he gifted open to see which I think that the present time it's being sold in 68 countries and parenting is going to be it would be a huge interview is gonna be all over the world and this is the Last time, which Meghan Holly, I really think speak. We believe about why they left your family about what life was like in the royal family because they haven't really said much over the person say less than or step back from the war family. But I think finally, many people also say, Well, Meghan suffered very It's a bassist treatment at the hands off the British press what other female world were congratulated for whether it was See avocados or touching their baby, but everything a magazine that was all fine when it was other funerals. Yeah, and you've just by going through that have by going through that You've reminded us how much pressure the royal family has faced in recent years, and how much criticism the royal family has faced in recent years. And some of that criticism Woz over the fact that Meghan Markle identifies is mixed race. And was widely seen as not being fully accepted by the royal family. For that reason, is the real evidence of that, though That I mean, just with undeniable evidence, which she was the vet him off bassist press, she said. So she could. Harry has said. It's obvious when you compare the stories. Example, old boils or world in the Crown properties, and they are renovating for millions of Crown money. No one ever cared before. When they get in How we move into Frogmore Cottage. Britain has some kind of national meltdown over the fact that they had 2.4 million minutes. Money, spending it on The fact is that you know what? Simply how he was putting out these desperate statements trying to defend Meghan trying to say, you know, you know, it was going down the same road as my mother. Please stop. We don't know what you're going to say about the wider war family on on the sun on Sunday night's interview, she may weigh no, she didn't talk about racism in Britain. We know she's been talking about the press. If you can't talk about the royal family issue, going to talk about the men in gray suits that Princess Diana cord and the courtiers, this is all about that, at the moment, if she does, that's much more wide ranging if she says it wasn't just suppressed. What? Unfair to me, but also the war family who, in fact to me, then that I think is a very significant intervention. And that will that will really impact on perceptions of all family. Kate Williams. Thanks for the time really appreciate it. Hmm.

"What is Michael Jordan think about load management I'm not asking this just to have you make an assumption we have an idea of how he feels we got it through Steve Clifford coach of the short will formally with the Charlotte Hornets where magic magic Manimal of the place he's with the magic now and Jordan owns the Hornets owns the Hornets where Clifford wise now surprisingly I know this is shock Michael Jordan believes if he's paying someone for eighty two games he wants them to play for eighty two games this is breaking news what you know Jordan from his era the most competitive guy you've ever seen in your life is very much supporting the eighty two games anti load management yeah I'll die he is but here's the thing as an owner it's easy to say it because it hasn't mattered for Michael Jordan it is a matter for the Charlotte Hornets they Kemba Walker there for a number of years just until this year Kemp is a great player he's not in the least superstar but he's a star bill doesn't add series injuries either so he hasn't needed it Kemba Walker doesn't have to ask for games off they don't have to worry about keeping him healthy that's not a concern when Boston sign Kemba Walker nobody in Boston goes oh my god but what about the needy or they hip or that the ankle whatever that wasn't really conversation campus fine so it's different if if Michael Jordan is much you might say yeah I'm paying you to play eighty two games if he's got the chance to bring quai Leonard is only played sixty I can tell you what's going to happen there he would sign Kawhi Leonard and let him play sixty there's no doubt it's that simple when you leave town if it's available if you have to let him sit out a couple games to be healthy enough to play you wouldn't do it what's your choice teens need to do it if guys want to get not everybody needs it you know the Michael Jordan's of the modern era in terms of mentality you if you think that is those guys are gonna play let's let's say Jimmy Butler which by the way can we can we get the Jimmy Butler stuff does Jimmy Butler all my god it was absolutely amazing what he did the other night with the heat but Jimmy Butler you know he's got a he's got a lot of wear and tear on he's played a million minutes over the last couple years he doesn't want to sit out that's fine that's his prerogative he's allowed to do it again there's only like three guys in the NBA that sit out because of load management as much as people are freaking out about it it's ruining the game very no it's not it might ruin the game that you go to and I'm sorry if if that's what happened you paid tickets to go to a game you bring the kids you want to see lebron lebron doesn't play that sucks it's a crappy day and it's disappointed the kid I get that but what these people are doing the strategy is not about a game in November this is not what they're doing it's about having people healthy for the long term that's what it's about like lebron in fittingly enough the Lakers play the heat tonight N. so lebron I believe he played in that game you know I get the replay in front of me right now I don't see him on the screen but out I believe he played and Jimmy Butler you know he's going to play as many games you can't Jimmy Butler super competitive guy and obviously to a fault because if you this this later SO has a hell of a game the other night I think he had thirty points at halftime so yeah Jimmy Butler was killing it now after the game typical fare they pulled aside they start talking to him Hey Jimmy tells about the game and here's what happened why.

"Services AT Bernie's book bank what a great idea you'll you I was right not some random notes there during the break I was kind of vision total losers what it's like when an I. every kid is different but when you're a kid first gets a book I mean maybe some kids have never seen a book maybe kids have never had a book given to them of give us a visual picture of what it's like when a kid gets one of your books sure sure it's very exciting especially when it's clearly children who had never had books of their own I had a kid come up to me once and said I get to keep this yeah absolutely these are for you and they're just they're so grateful they're so excited we get hundreds of thank you notes in the mail and it's just it's so exciting to read from these children that didn't have the opportunity before and now can picture themselves going and doing and being things that they couldn't imagine before I bet there's some other different themes that they respond to talk about Harry potter but I'm I'm sure within the next year is gonna be tons of alligator books but store doesn't go away but other certain themes they respond it really depends on the kid you know we got one letter ones from a child who had low map scores which is that standardized testing in Illinois schools and they said I traded all my books so that I had non fiction books and I'm so excited to work on my map scores there are our kids to go and and they want the diary of a wimpy kid or a superhero book or princesses it's all very exciting but we definitely see some themes with the the popular ones yeah talk about your background hundred involved in the organization sure so I'm from Lake County originally which is where we're located I went away to school I studied human rights yeah and then when I quit which is which is the university of Iowa yeah yeah Bangkok I fear so when I came back to Illinois a I I wanted to do something that mattered and books have played a huge role in my life it was always something that I was doing reading all the time trading with my friends trying to start but clubs things like that and so it really seems like the perfect marriage of you know something that I love to literacy and then also making a difference in our community the books from the house in which your folks do yes my mother is a teacher yeah and yeah my dad was involved in education for awhile as well it runs in our family for sure there are always books around the house I was always around people who were reading and and that is a huge predictor of success later in life so we want to make sure that the children we serve our seeing that and being exposed to that as well did you play sports Hey dad I played lacrosse Utah I am very tall taller six one yeah you're it takes people by surprise yeah rose rose tall too right five years ago ran track I did yeah and that was what set us up south suburbs right yep south suburbs only part yeah unlike the smallest guy so talk about some of the other very rapid of time what's in the you guys have a lot of clever volunteer options football Fridays and maybe the next ones not to August thirtieth but what happens if that that's right sure so we're very excited to partner with the Chicago Bears for the NFL's a hundredth anniversary they're trying to serve a hundred million minutes of fan volunteer time and so we're partnering with the Chicago Bears to help them up their hours we've got to beat the Packers and volunteer minutes for sure so when people come in every once in awhile we'll get a visit visit from Stanley the bear yes it's very exciting the kids love it I actually the grown men love it too for sure but we encourage people to come in their bare skier hang out with us and then use the hashtag bears huddle for one okay two questions where does this happen that's at our lake bluff location you can see all the dates on our website Bernie spoke bank dot org and you can sign up directly from the calendar in my second compete with the Packers they do something like this well the it all NFL teams are doing it so they're all competing against each other and they need their fans to come out and support now and let it do they all different book bang I mean we need no it's just volunteer time in general were just all volunteer time in general okay we're just we've got you know hundreds of volunteers that come in every month so we're encouraging them to use the hashtag in our partnership with the bears and what is the fifty our club the fifty our club is a wonderful group of dedicated people who have committed to serving at least fifty hours over the course of a twelve month period so there are Deanna weekly volunteers they come in all the time they get an exclusive T. shirt and then milestone markers for every fifty hours that they serve so do you go to bookstores lot I love you yeah now I am reading a book of essays right now called I miss you when I blink it's very good so far yeah what's that about I was just about this woman's life she was an author and you know it's very interesting so it is it's so to you give us a wrap up again how people can volunteer I guess the next release public thing is that it may seize on I'm State Street absolutely yeah that's a big thing we also host three sessions a day six days a week at our lake bluff location so if you're in the area or want to take a trip up to visit us we would love to have you you can sign up directly from our website there's an online calendar there to get involved with the Macy's event which is on the week of the twenty sixth of August you can contact me on my information is on our website as well and then if you're just got some children's books you're looking to get rid of we have a lot of book drop partners throughout the state you can go on to our website there's a little you can type in your zip code and it shows you the closest under some like in the city and stuff yeah yes we're partnered with the win trust bank so yeah that's alright cation yeah and drop off books and how could people finals foodies was a really sweet sure yeah well you can come to our location and pick one up if you want us to send you a picture we can send it to you in the mail as well we'll figure it out for you a leading provider of quality books for at risk children yeah our land area what any type of books you the reject I mean what what won't you take short so we don't distribute anything that's inappropriate for children who are twelve years old or younger so will sort out all of the adult books we also distribute through the public school system so we don't do anything that has religious content and then we also don't do anything that you would need to buy extra material for so those craft books and cook books and things like that we want them to really be able to use it and not have to go by other things that they don't have those resources okay was such a great idea thanks for coming down thanks for having me Casey bart connect director of volunteer services I love I love the mind and I was said yeah yeah it's a great your service is what's bookstore there right that's right yeah direct about your services that Burney's book bank thank you for coming down tonight thank you okay I'll be back with more after this on WGN.

slightly less than they were in the past I'm about to go from a strategist to the president this is America first in Salem radio network coast to coast for more than three hundred stations affiliates and platforms including not only I tunes but you too and you crossed it yesterday over a million minutes viewed of all show up three our dedicated Obama gate show the only person who's missing from Sarah Carter Jon Solomon Victoria Toensing Joe digenova and judicial watch's Chris Farrell is with us right now it took us eight months and I persisted hi all right past that this man every day I would ring in at three AM service please nobody down bungee no welcome to America first yeah but you are aggressive I get a credit bureau he's not kidding by the way maybe not three a yeah but probably pretty close I always I always get my man I always get my math and he's got you I told you we would do it and I don't bloody excuse is the only reason you're doing it now is because you've got a book coming out it's coming out two weeks before my book that you've got full meet liberally hovers I did it with you on fox and it was really good fun all right I got it yeah you can tell you is you know the only reason the only reason you're doing my show them on Gina is because I complimented on you on your tie annual suit a minute yeah that is that was what you did that was very tight you why when I was yet so yeah you're the only one everyone else hated it they don't like the time however we have a photograph of you right up here not Chiron could be broadcasting live would you choose and it looks this is a photograph I swear I don't know what Eric found this is your official secret service photograph you're standing in front of a flat and you got your white said on your about fifteen pounds lighter I swear this is your USG official portrait I am I right guys come up literally come on that's that in his substance Hey buddy thanks for coming on the show he has a I I just finished my book well the war for America's soul in it I have a whole chapter on Obama gate and I give you the credit right up the you know at the get go the chapter because your twenty minute video a David Horowitz is restoration weekend when your first book came out on on the Russian collusion delusion it is the most it is the best explication of the coup attempt in America in twenty minutes it's a stunning video I'm gonna re posted on my Twitter feed in in in the next break it is massively massively important and now you've got your new book exonerated done I don't want to be charged with being hyperbolic but but what happened in America in twenty sixteen from your perspective as former NYPD former secret service and as the man who's now written two books on this scandal well I'm first aid that's very nice you I sincerely appreciate the compliment and I was surprised that you you know you gave you were at David event and we would ask the first question which and you mentioned how it's because it was funny because it was really just me speaking off the cuff and by gate Obama gate Russia gave whatever you choose to call it into twenty minutes and and and and if you're asking me what they did I guess the best way to sum it up it what they did was not original now I notice I never call it ever and there's a reason for that because this is not about Donald Trump well that's shocking nationwide on Donald Trump I was not about Donald Trump the focus of my second book in contrast to the first books by gate I was discussing at that event is they have done this before the **** this was not not a noob they had tried the very save big on John Kerry and exonerated the second book lays it out now you may have a what do you need it didn't go anywhere okay well figured why did not go anywhere who is the president when John McCain was running against Barack Obama it was George Bush right he wasn't going to allow the Intel community to play these continued games at the end the label John became with this collusion kind of ironic because became the key players by gate by gate that also yeah right yeah exactly so that's quick take away number one if I had to give like a eight second elevator speech here take away number true it's not only had this been tried before but it's based on what I call the movie script it is not you'll dossier information used to spy on Donald Trump it's not new it's based on a true for two thousand and seven article this is the most stunning thing annual speech that the the fusion GPS dudes wrote an article a decade ago almost and re hash the garbage article and that's how they spotted the trump campaign it's it's it's a stunning revelation well as a let me ask you this that as a national security professional whose work more than once carried a badge and a gun whose have the clearances hello hello disturb should average because you can say oh this only modest goal because who may have been spied on the Sony matters to dad because he worked in the White House how disturb based upon everything that you've written in Spygate been exonerated should the average American beatable well you should be terrified all right I mean I'm not I don't mean that hyperbolic we and and listen Sebastian I've got street cred on that I mean I was against the patriot act but George W. bush was in office and when I ran for office myself this so this is some kind of Johnny come lately I just found my civil libertarians you can go listen to the speeches when I read but think about that Donald Trump is one of the richest most powerful men with one of the biggest media voices in the world right and even if he had a difficult time fighting back the media Intel three three swap ward on these completely invented movie script Russian collusion charges can you imagine your ride with one one thousandth of what you have trying to fight off the organized effort to these people you should be horrible I did that but I don't care what the party right as the president said this should never happen again to any president Democrat or Republican what needs to happen now we've got a new Attorney General Dan we've got this guy he's on least called darum from Connecticut what's your expectation you know so much about all this the ties to the U. K. to G. C. H. Q. the Australian government do you expect a grand jury indictments all folks key members of the Obama administration I DO and it's always a bothers people when I say this but I'm I'm just giving you based on my experience I think it's gonna happen I think a lot of the political players candidly you're gonna get a skate I guess do you I I I see no evidence whatsoever that people with the political background are getting up to having said that the three letter people I believe call me indicate and others including Brandon made your world of trouble but for a very specific legal reasons clearly classified information was weak that I believe in the end some of that may go back to high level players at the FBI and the CI a and I and I don't think bill part gonna let the market that's ever you wanted Avenue to it we we definitely need organizational changes the equivalent of a of a church commission committee rubble yeah what we're gonna have to organization which in the woods procedure in other words the way we verify information on what needs to be vetted before we target political figures during an election on that all these to change in the world we are surprised as perfect as our fidelity to the rule and if we're not available we're not going to matter but you know having good rules as the start so not right now the rules are are we're we're out of time but but so not sedition charges that the heavy charges the charges to do with miss handling a leaking national security information well I I think they could very well make a case for that but if I think it's gonna happen though I I'd be like yeah I think it's gonna be classified information and hold statements that's going to get a lot of the system he is down button Gino we love him he's a freedom fighter he likes his tee shirts but it looks good in a suit and tie he has the shortest by on Twitter it is host of the band bone Gino show fox news contributor follow him the bond Gino and you can just again tonight with a friend Sean Hannity on the Sean Hannity show nine o'clock this evening god bless you down keep doing what you do I'm.

"Bank what a great idea you'll you I was right not some random notes there during the break I was trained in vision hello this is what it's like when and I every kid is different but when you're a kid first gets a book I mean maybe some kids have never seen a book maybe kids have never had a book given to them I would give us a visual picture of what it's like when a kid gets one of your books sure sure it's very exciting especially when it's clearly children who had never had books of their own I had a kid come up to me once and said I get to keep this yeah absolutely these are for you and they're just they're so grateful they're so excited we get hundreds of thank you notes in the mail and it's just it's so exciting to read from these children that didn't have the opportunity before and now can picture themselves going and doing and being things that they couldn't imagine before I bet there's some other different themes that they respond to talk about Harry potter but I'm I'm sure within the next year this give you tons of alligator books okay but yeah that story doesn't go away but either certain themes they respond to it really depends on the kid you know we got one letter ones from a child who had low map scores which is that standardized testing in Illinois schools and they said I traded all my books so that I had non fiction books and I'm so excited to work on my map scores there are the other kids to go and and they want the diary of the wimpy kid or a superhero book or princesses it's all very exciting but we definitely see some themes with the the popular ones yeah talk about your background how did you get involved in the organization sure so I'm from Lake County originally which is where we're located I went away to school I studied human rights yeah and then when I quit which is which is the university of Iowa really yeah yeah Bangkok I fear so when I came back to Illinois a I wanted to do something that mattered and books have played a huge role in my life it was always something that I was doing reading all the time trading with my friends trying to start but clubs things like that and so it really seems like the perfect marriage of you know something that I love to literacy and then also making a difference in the communities where the books from the house in which your folks do yes my mother is a teacher yeah and yeah my dad was involved in education for awhile as well it runs in our family for sure there are always books around the house I was always around people who were reading and and that is a huge predictor of success later in life so we want to make sure that the children we serve our seeing that and being exposed to that as well did you play sports I did I played lacrosse Utah I am very tall taller six one yeah you're it takes people by surprise yeah rose taupe rose tall too right road ran track I did and that was what set us up south suburbs it yep south suburbs only part yeah unlike the smallest guy so talk about some of the other before I wrap it up talk about some of the you guys have a lot of clever volunteer options football Fridays now maybe the next ones not to August thirtieth but what happens at that that's right sure so we're very excited to partner with the Chicago Bears for the NFL's a hundredth anniversary they're trying to serve a hundred million minutes of fan volunteer time and so we're partnering with the Chicago Bears to help them up their hours we've got to beat the Packers and volunteer minutes for sure so when people come in every once in awhile we'll get a visit visit from Stanley the bear yes it's very exciting the kids love it I actually the grown men love it too for sure but we encourage people to come in their bare skier hang out with us and then use the hashtag bears huddle for one okay two questions where does this happen that's at our lake bluff location you can see all the dates on our website Burney's book bank dot org and you can sign up directly from the calendar in my second compete with the Packers they do something like this well the it all NFL teams are doing it so they're all competing against each other and they need their fans to come out and support now and let it do they all have different book bang I mean we need no it's just volunteer time in general were just all volunteer time in general okay we're just we've got you know hundreds of volunteers that come in every month so we're encouraging them to use the hashtag in our partnership with the bears and what is the fifty our club the fifty our club is a wonderful group of dedicated people who have committed to serving at least fifty hours over the course of a twelve month period so there are the in a weekly volunteers they come in all the time they get an exclusive T. shirt and then milestone markers for every fifty hours that they serve so do you go to bookstores lot I love you yeah now I am reading a book of essays right now called I miss you when I blink it's very good so far no what's that about I was just about this woman's life she was an author and you know it's very interesting so it is it still a good give us a wrap up again how people can volunteer I guess the next really public thing is that the Macy's on on State Street absolutely yep that's a big thing we also host three sessions a day six days a week at our lake bluff location so if you're in the area or want to take a trip up to visit us we would love to have you you can sign up directly from our website there's an online calendar there to get involved with the Macy's event which is on the week of the twenty sixth of August you can contact me on my information is on our website as well and then if you're just got some children's books you're looking to get rid of we have a lot of book drop partners throughout the state you can go on to our website there's a little map you can type in your zip code and it shows you the closest other some like in a city and stuff yeah yes we're partnered with the win trust bank so yeah that those locations yeah and drop off books that how could people finals foodies also really sweet sure yeah well you can come to our location and pick one up if you want us to send you a picture we can send it to you in the mail as well we'll figure it out for you a leading provider of quality books for at risk children in the Chicago land area what any type of books you we reject I mean what what won't you take short so we don't distribute anything that's inappropriate for children who are twelve years old or younger so will sort out all of the adult books we also distribute through the public school system so we don't do anything that has religious content and then we also don't do anything that you would need to buy extra material for so those craft books and cook books and things like that we want them to really be able to use it and not have to go by other things that they don't have those resources okay was such a great idea thanks for coming down thanks for having me Casey bart connect director of volunteer services I love I love the mind and the Iowa city city yes that's right the greatest volunteer services what's a bookstore there right that's right direct about your services that Burney's book bank thank you for coming down tonight thank you okay I'll be back with more after this on WGN.

"On KOMO news. The boom X show continues. Here's Darryl title. So tell me when when Bush was doing his little thing about the news with all the news break. Did you hear the coffin the background? That was me. Total amateur. In a news anchor guy looks at Ricky. I'm a guy gob night. Couldn't whatever I kinda wack admitting human being. I mean back in the day, man. You know, how when you when you're young you. Like, you're so afraid of especially when you're doing something scary like practicing law like the first time, you have to take a case for somebody and represent them. And if you screw it up, some bad things are gonna happen. Now. I mean. Who thinks about it in those terms really because it's the law is the law. And I suppose no it is true. Some some advocates can get a great result. But my very first trial was a silly little who was a civil case. And it was a silly little dispute about a used car. It was literally a a women a women like you bought a car, and then it's horrible. And so we're now suing for misrepresentation and fraud and all this stuff. And opposing counsel was from this big big law firm with you know, gold doorknobs and stuff. I'm like, okay. The Cisco over the factor. I'm actually a third year law student. I'm not even a lawyer yet. And I'm in district court going against the big silver tower. Whatever you wanna call him. And and I'll be darned if I didn't clean, they're clocks. I mean, we don't even have punitive damages in Washington. Except for few exceptions one is consumer Protection Act. And so we sued for under that statute, I did and allows for trouble damages attorney's fees. It was awesome. And we bet I I you could not win a better victory. It was literally impossible to get more than than the judgment that we received on behalf of our client my very first child. It has been downhill ever since. Not true kind of my second truck trial. I started out is like this young general practitioner. So you're just taking anything in Washington the door. I personally think that it's no way to practice law. But when you're starting you don't know, right. The the the second trial. I had was an actual jury trial here, and it was a criminal case. I was representing the defendant. That's the way one of the judges are in back in the day would say defendant to fin band. And here is opening the theme of the case. Ladies and gentlemen, of the jury might Clinton is not guilty of driving under the influence of alcohol. He is guilty of driving under the influence of a heart attack. And he had heart condition, and he was having palpitations immediately after release from jail. You went straight to the hospital. We were able to prove that it was a medical condition. Not intoxicants that impairs is imperative, but that's pretty good. Those are like my first I two trials. I once made a motion and argue in front of a judge for about fifteen million minutes and the result was a summary judgment victory, and and a million dollar judgment. Think about that. For fifteen minutes a million bucks. I am not going to tell you about all the cases that I lost. You can look those up on the internet. But as a young lawyer starting out, it's you know, it's it's a little bit scary. And when I when I began focused on estate planning was about I don't know three four five years into practice. This funny. Little financial adviser took a liking to me. And he started saying, look, you know, I like you. I'm gonna send you a state planning referrals that can remember saying to him. I don't know the first thing about estate planning. That's okay. I'll teach you. And he was a Vietnamese American whose docked adopted as orphan. This is no kidding. This is a true story. He was inside gone, basically running in the streets as an orphan and a artilery officer, a major United States army adopted him and took it back to United States, and he had that work ethic and that morality of that officer in a just a just a great guy. And he's the guy guy me into state planning, and he referred cases swimming. Then we start talking about this other thing started going to these classes starting attracting clients started taking on clients. And then, you know, the big breakthrough for me was to me, I find a state planning to be challenging, but it's not that complicated. But I notice man, my my clients is not a state planning a C plannings about estate transfer. And by that. I mean, we have title we own asset. You cannot take it with you therefore when we pass away we have to change the title from the dead person. That's you to the living person estate planning asset protection is man, we might lose entire asset before we get to that.

"And I I feel I have to bring this up because I totally forgot about it. And it will come up at some point. I imagine somebody will will remind me that guy who shall remain nameless death dug a few years later approached Randy Wang, and I Ryan Wong to to start this podcast. Now, we're I didn't know him. I don't know anything about it. And and each there was a lot of things that didn't add up, and he was it was not going. Well, he was not going well and. I can't do this. I can't be told Theresa at the time. I like this guy. I don't know he works at the station. It's not going. Well, she goes oh death dog. Not like what is this? No, no idea. So this is all making sense. So so here we are. We started bringing in these reports that would say, oh, you have seventeen million minutes of streaming from God knows where people can't hear you on their station or on their computer listening, and they would start bringing these reports and all the time goings the eighteen million minutes. And and and it was like, I remember them saying second only to the fan in New York who would play the Mets, and then games and their entire people watch listen for three hours or whatever. And I and I remember thinking, well, that's something. This is ten plus years ago, but streaming X amount of streaming without on their computer. This listening on their computer. And and it was always like that. Neither here nor there. There was. No, no. So the radio based on what was going on with the radio is it sort of is if you had a blockbuster video store, and you were renting out VHS tapes. DVD's or whatever and somebody like came in and saying, hey, man, the futures digital people are going to always gonna wanna watch the movie I want to run a download right from their own home in real time. Not pick up and drop off and send back and rewind. All that. And you're like kid out of my building. Okay. I'll have my brick and mortar building throw frigging mortar. Actually, right, right. Like, literally. Like, I was saying, hey, man. Eighteen million minutes of streaming in the last two months last month. I can't even remember what I kept saying. That's something. That's gotta be something. And they're like, we're not interested in any of that. There's a short allusion to that in my in my book, right talk about Jack Gill us about the yell at us about the ratings L A, and you'd be gone, but the download numbers are really strong you. I don't care about that. He would he had no time dismissed did. And what we would try to put episodes on the podcast for the podcast. Nobody was interested. It was neither here. There. So again, afterthought I give what your guys are doing. But if you're the guy who's has the brick and mortar blockbuster and somebody's coming in and telling you, hey, you're already doing they're people that are streaming this or whatever don't throw them out. Right. Listen to them. But that's that's not what radio does. So. It became apparent that. When it was time to and with all this show. I was listening when they kept talking about streaming streaming streaming. No one else not no one else. But no one who mad decisions and high desert a one. All right. Well, let's go. Let's go to the internet. We have the tape. I think of Jackson parting again, I think people should know just to set the table. When this is like like like many businesses, but even in slightly more heightened way when you're leaving a program. I mean when I left love line. It was like the retires and their people waiting out in the parking lot to hug and Bubba. There's an emotional component to it. It's not well I worked at McDonalds for summer now moving to arby's. Like, there's an there's a real sort of. It's a divorce. It's a death. Its it's somber. There's there's elements to it that just sort of transcend. All right. You done doing the pruning on the tray. Here's forty bucks. Like, it's not that there's an emotional. We are leaving and for the audience. The the real reason I I started the podcast is because I felt that loss with the audience. I knew there people I'd always all throughout my radio. Oh career..

"million minutes" Discussed on The Vergecast

"You'll save our trash might be driving to work and you've got like a boss. Imagine you're the person Sony, and you're like it's time for the third generation of party speakers. And you're like putting together your PowerPoint you've got like a bunch of market research like fraternities on average destroy the as every two years. Here's our replacement cycle. We've done a bunch of pricing data LG's party speakers have karaoke functions. Like someone's doing that work. We have to find them. TV transit the ES. There was a minute actually more like a million minutes where the industry is telling us that we really wanted three d they were you want three. And we knew it was a lie. And then they were telling us we really wanted Kerr TV's, and they're telling us we really want four K that was the cool new thing. And then they were telling us. No, no, you wanna HDR. No. You want this age? You know, you want that show you want this. That's all there was a whole thing there. Right. Then thin. I don't see the whole industry like pushing a new thing here. They're trying to inspire us with rolling TV's and TV's you can like. On the wall. But there's no like this is the next big thing. And in television knows coming there later, but we're in this cycle where there's no like hype cycle for like a TD feature. They are all just they've all like they all support each other's HDR standards by and large. Now, they all got four K by large. They've all got their like little vocal dimming gimmick cure there. But there's no like grand like this is what TV's are going to be now moment this year. No. Because they are that thing that's the inflection point. Yeah. Like, this is just the sort of like period city of the curve is happening like they sold everybody, flat panels, and they sold everybody HD, and they were fine with that for a minute. And then they're like oh shit. We have to solve everybody TV yet. You want three. Do you want? This do that. Now, they're like really good like people are buying the new TV's. Yeah. Right. So they actually have to like drive demand. We just have to produce the panels. Yep. And they're like, you can see the glimmers of the next thing happening. But. I think it'll be a year or two bef- writer right now. It's like it has Alexa. It has Google assistant and as airplane like those features people are buying because the panels and the continental there. Yeah. But it makes sense but into plateau let a bit because as you were saying these folk it was a big thing for a long time, which was a big thing out there in my house. Right. And then let was kind of an apparel line to four K. And there was a time. There was like, well, what would you choose? Right. Would you? Choose the focus TV. Would you? Choose the TV because it didn't have Oded that mature now have full lead N H, N flatness and Rollerball capability. We don't want to have put so, but the point is all of these desirable things especially for K Nolan when we had an apart- everybody was like, I just want them to get. I just wanted to get. So we need to live with prohibitive now. Interesting that yes. Prices at branch becoming available for K O lead with HD are that's the one and you probably want the crystal display sow share. Yeah. Throw it in. Format. These Cup holders pool. I go back to talking about the person and how they definitely had to like get so Cup specs or the person that has a fifteen thousand dollar Ola TV in their Infinity pool outside. There's like they've got sitting outside. Yeah. For years like the thing siestas Mark Cuban as a standing order for the biggest TV industry can make. So they would announce one hundred inch plasma and then like they'd be the ones already being shipped marquee like. It was really. Let me just say. This. Hopefully, it is simply like let him by himself. Single four Cup holders in his speaker..
