The person in the vehicle drove off the woman suffered what's described as incapacitating injuries, she was taken to northwestern memorial hospital in fair condition. Officials in west suburban Darien say a man struck a police vehicle and drove off yesterday morning, but it didn't take officers long to track him down. Deputy police chief Jason Norton says a detective was on his way to work and was rear ended by the driver of a white Mercedes while the detective was stopped at a light at 87th street in lemont road. While the man in the Mercedes drove off after the detective had his emergency lights on, investigators say the driver headed north to his sister's town home in the nearby woodmere subdivision when where Norton says the driver hit and damaged a utility pole and signs. With the help of citizens in that area, we were able to locate the vehicle and the individual. He exited the home and had conversations with the officers and they were able to identify him as the hit and run offender in the initial crash and the second crash outside of the subdivision there. No one was hurt and charges are now pending against the driver. The Chicago police department says it's ready to keep chicagoans and the city's visitors safe this holiday season. Police superintendent David Brown says large gatherings at holiday events will be a top priority for officers. It's safe. We have the resources to ensure it's safe. We have a response plan to ensure that if there are any threats that we respond to that quickly and that you are going to be safe coming downtown. I spoke with laura late last season. Checking in with her on her work as director and head horticulturalist at the famed lurie garden in chicago's millennium park. Welcome to the program. Laura i have been following the lurie garden since it opened in two thousand four and i have been following your work for years now in the public around. It is really lovely to have you here with me. Thank you for having me. This is wonderful. I would love to have you share with listeners. Your current relationship with plants. I have described you as the director and head horticulturalist at the garden. But what does that actually mean laura. And what is your relationship to plants. Both personally and professionally. What do they look like right now. In your life my relationship to plants right now is trying to imagine what they will look like through multiple seasons. Were in a very four season part of the country. And i'm always interested in what will be the next thing that you're i will go to in a garden setting. I started out in this career early on working with research evaluation plants of perennials and it was always interesting to see them lined up side by and how they changed over the seasons and even within seasons and i think i came to this garden because i was really interested in how time is an element in garden design and i think that's a good intro to understanding. Chicago Public School parents, kids rally in Millennium Park to demand reopening of schools
"In the Chicago Teachers Union continued to negotiate over there, reopening of high school's a group of parents held a rally to pressure both sides to come up with a plan. We will not settle for two day a week hybrid for K through eight students and more bargaining drama over high schools and academic centers. Especially in the face of improving pandemic news. Chicago parents collective wants a full reopening of Chicago public schools. So far kindergarten through eighth grade has been brought back and clusters. CPS has floated the idea of bringing high school students back on April 19th but see to you says they still have concerns over safety. She'll say a high school reopening plan will likely include a hybrid model and vary from school to school based on enrollment and ability for social distancing.
