"Efforts. To preserve that. So Miley, what would you tell a mom? And it's not always this concrete. But the first couple of weeks, if they know they're going to have some loss, how can they preserve something that's theirs or for them? Something that I did the second time around because I didn't know that it was the loss was going to be so strong. Is that I really had a plan going into the second child. And I really managed sort of like who I wanted around how often I wanted them there and I recognized the privilege in this, but I made sure that I had my food planned because I had someone come, who did the grocery shopping, there was just always food for me in the refrigerator that I didn't, you know, I didn't have to do anything but either heated or eat it salads. And I even planned for postpartum massage just trying really hard to just ground myself and then I just broke some of the rules. I think motherhood, there's this laundry list of do this and don't do that. And I was like, you know, I've kept the first one alive. I think I'm going to really do what I think is going to work for me. And I did. And something else that I did is I've been in therapy weekly for nearly a decade. And I just kept my Sessions. And so it was just like, you're responsible for the baby when I have this 45 minutes. Yes. And some of my skin out on my front porch, zooming with my therapist, and I'll never forget this compliment. She was like, you look like the most well rested new mom I've ever seen. And I'm like, because I am serious. About this time around. Yes, having time for yourself after you've had a child is a battle, especially when they're a baby, and they're so unpredictable. So especially with your first kid, the idea that, oh, if I want to eat a salad, if I want to have a bite of a sandwich, that actually might be hard to do sitting down by myself. Yes. Right? And so is it therapy? Is it taking a walk? I think often about how many people want to get you baby gifts. And for everyone right now to think, should I be saying those people honestly, I'd rather you sign up for a day and bring me a meal. Yes. Maybe I'd rather that or I'm going to ask half the people do I really need that this toy and that toy, right? If I can't afford to have someone cook my meals, could I tell someone that's actually what I would like as a gift a day of dinner? Yes. And then I don't have to worry about it so I can get that time to myself so I don't have so much loss because now instead of, oh no, what am I going to eat? I might be able to take a long shower. And thinking in advance, I actually think about all the baby gifts I got that if someone else had given me something that kind of sustained me and that would have allowed me to take that walk or watch that show or do something else really just for me maybe exercise that would have given me so much more. But I think something we should I want to just say and definitely get your thoughts on this is that there are something about motherhood that I think the idea of sacrifice that you're not a good mother if you're not running yourself ragged and like letting people know I'm doing laundry, I'm doing this. I'm doing that. And I know that there is a level of guilt around like you should never look relaxed or you should never look refreshed. You should look like you're struggling because that's kind of what it is. You know, I've seen some new moms who were like, yep, the babies with grandma and I'm going to the spa, you know? And people, you can see in the comments of like, you know, this is crazy. One time before you ever met me and I had my first kid, I wrote about how I was taking care of myself and how I think I left him. I think he was maybe two, three months, and I maybe went for like a day out of town. And someone emailed me. How dare you leave your kid behind when you beg to have these kids. And I was just like, first of all, who are you? But it just made me think, how many people actually deal with this from strangers or family members where they feel like if they're not sacrificing, they aren't being good parents. Wow, I mean, this is so important. Yes, and we need to get rid of that idea of good motherhood means self sacrificial motherhood or even the idea of selfless. Like, to me, that's the most disturbing idea. As a parent, as a sturdy leader, you want me to be without self, how am I going to do anything running around in circles? I know it's not good for me as an individual, and I can say definitively. It's not good for your kid. It is not good for your kid to have a leader who can't be located because they are seriously running ragged. So yes, we need to change this. The first thing I would ask people to reflect on is what do I know about my relationship with my own needs? Always goes back to this. How do I feel about the fact that I need things for myself? Does that make me kind of have a panic attack? I know so many women who say to me, my life would be easier if I didn't need things for myself. We've learned this. Yeah. If I could just care take and fill myself up by pouring myself out, life would be easier. It doesn't make sense even visually, right? But we've been taught this. And so to the degree, taking care of yourself away from a child leaves you with guilt. I think it's really powerful to consider, I didn't come out of the womb that way. There's no way I came into this world thinking, I want to have no needs. I want to just do for others. That's something we've learned through our family of origin, through society, through gender roles, through traditional ideas of motherhood, so many different things. And we can't, in one fell swoop and learn that. But we can get curious about our discomfort. So I would say to parents is it's a really important to be curious about that guilt rather than read the guilt as a sign that you're doing something wrong. That discomfort is probably a sign you're doing something new. It's very new for me to say yes, I love my child and yes I need time away because I actually do have needs for myself that aren't fulfilled by taking care of others. That's new. And whenever we do something new, that's uncomfortable. So that's the first thing. The other thing I would say is you really did get an email from someone criticizing you, but so many of us determine our actions by what we fear other people are thinking. Yes. No one I even says anything. What would this person think? What are my mom friends going to think if I don't show up to the play group because I say, oh, actually I needed to do this thing for myself. If we're going to get into the thoughts and minds of other people, we might as well make them work for us. I always think that. We're making it up. Right. So I have so often, imagine myself when I've gone away for a weekend or I've just said, I need to go do this thing for myself. I will imagine the people around me being like, you go, girl, you are setting a great role model for your child that I love you and I'm there, but you know what? Sometimes I need to be there for myself and that's important too. I actually make up that they're cheerleading for me. We might as well, right? And I think that's really powerful to say, yeah, I'm not going to that mommy and me group. I'm going to imagine the other one saying, you're an inspiration for me, because I know you're a great mom, I know you, and you're showing me great moms, don't quote do it all. They don't run themselves into the ground. They pause and take care of themselves. You're inspiring me. You might as well make up those thoughts and it can

"I love this. I absolutely love it. I love that it's a little janky. I love it. I'm here for it. This bootleg bag? Yes, I love it. I love it. I didn't realize it was this easy to just make a show. I love the idea of the bushwick bachelor. That's funny. But if you guys like this, they're doing the bushwick bachelor in Paradise that's on the side of the Hudson. Give it a look, see. It's gonna be a good show. It's gonna be great. Oh my gosh. You are so good today. Lonnie. You can't be everywhere. Everything. It can't. He works really, really hard. And so I've been listening. Now, Monday, it wasn't as good. But today, he's really warmed up. He's really funny. You are funny. We should do a hunter. We should do a hunter funny meter on the show. We have one. Our name's Lonnie. No, we got one for me too. Linda, you're back. Hey, why? No, no. Go to the other one. No. No. No. No. Yes. Yes. The show is ridiculous. I don't know. What's going on? We got to take another break. I love coach who teaches you how to flirt with your coworker. Oh God, I'm scared. Boy by his next. Whoo. Boy, I had to get some support he turns up. You guys, welcome back. Summer is about to be here. So what better time to get some hot, love advice? And by hot, we mean hot garbage at the time for boy bye. All right you guys, this is definitely advice hunter should never listen to relationship expert Dan bacon. When the woman that you're flirting with floats back at you, what you can do is level it up by using what I call the tongue on tooth body language expression. You place the tip of your tongue on the second last back tooth. It signals to the woman that you are aware of the sexual attraction between you and her and you are aware that there is a private world developing between you and her. In some cases, a woman will then say what? What is that face mean? And you can then say nothing. We're just smiling. Now let's get back to work. Good. Cover your bases. Smart in case it's a huge no no. That's a big good win. I had to stop. You know, I stopped on the intro, 'cause I just don't think you should ever take advice from somebody named Dan bacon. No. This is the name, seems very seedy. What are you talking about? It works. Look at this. Yeah. Have you did that? I would assume you had recently got hit in the head. Come on, try it. All right, you try to make it. Let's talk about two things isn't how you flirt with someone that's how you try to cover up a yawn when you're talking to someone and you go. Is your toggle your tooth? Oh, idiot. That's literally what I do to cover up beyond. If you watch YouTube videos by Dan bacon about how to flirt with coworkers, you should try the tongue in toaster. It is the way to go. Oh my God. It's so good tonight. He's good. Oh my gosh, this guy also looks like an extra from Game of Thrones, no? He does a little bit. He looks like a wildling. You got one too. Please. Please. Lonnie, for me, we saved the applause at the end. Thank you. It's like a graduation. You got this talk about the YouTube page, the 33 secrets has a secret to dating a younger woman. Oh God, but he doesn't have the answer for who should hold his cell phone while he's driving. My number one secret to dating younger women. That number one secret is. Mindset. It's your mindset. That's what's stopping you the most. Look at these fountains, man. These fountains over here at the wind. It's amazing that he took time out of dropping off his Uber rides to do this video. It is funny to imagine that there's just three kids from who are partying in Vegas running in the backseat of that car the whole time. I was so nervous watching him. I wasn't listening to anything. I thought he was going to hit someone. Yeah. Get a stand. But didn't know what he said. Boy, bye. Boy bye to him. Yeah. Okay, finally, we have YouTube's Marnie, your personal wing girl. So she has a method for getting guys to break out of their awkward shells so they can talk to women. For the next few weeks, your goal is to get comfortable with being uncomfortable, just like a little kid. And you do this by doing at least three of the following things. All right, number one, break out into dance in the middle of the street for 30 seconds, and then continue walking. Like you don't care. Number two, say something to someone random that makes no sense to them, but only makes sense to you like I love it when bumblebees sing happy birthday. Just random. And then, again, just keep walking. Number three, break into song on the subway or in an elevator which is awesome. These are also tips you can use in jail to keep people away from you. If you want to just act like a pure FICO path. I just, okay, I like for you. I like that. No, you did not. Yes, I did. I thought it was breakout and dance. That's what I do all the time in the middle of the street. Yeah. That's so free. That's what she's talking about. Be free, you guys. You're too caught up. You're trying to get somebody's attention. Be free, show them. Yeah. Happy birthday, bumblebee. I love it when bumblebees sing happy birthday. Okay. You gotta do this? Yeah. Matt talking about happy birthday pop will be. Putting you on a 51 50 in that ball, huh? Uh huh. Can we at least end in a dance? Come on, jazz. Oh, we all did it. You missed it. Yeah. Yes, your eyes felt like we all did it. We were doing it as we're close. All right, you guys, that's all the time. We have for today. All right, unfortunately, we are off the rest of the week. But if you want to catch up on some episodes for the rest of the week, make sure that you're setting your DVRs. We'll see you next week..

"Welcome to nightly pop. You guys were turning 500. Reaching the big 5 O Jackie schimmel is here. 5 OO. Hunter, you're here. Usually. Usually, look, y'all, we got cake. We got champagne. Are you ready to party? Yeah. Yeah. Shut up. There we go. Yay. Yay. All right, you guys. We told our producers 500 is a big deal. So they went all out as you can see. Yeah. But they did say that they were going to make sure that the show was jam packed with a list stars. They swear to us, we haven't seen this, but they said they came through with a tribute that's so incredible. You got to see it to believe it. I could not be more proud of them. History books, you had to be printed. Or describe you as the leaders of those future generations. Congratulations. It's an impressive calling card that can lead even more impressive bullets in the years ahead. Winners of Nobel and Pulitzer prizes or late night talk show host. Taylor, I just wanted to say congratulations on 5000 episodes. That is so many. Congratulations. Wow. That was the thought that counts. Yeah. It's a 500 episodes. We have to thank our crew. We have to thank our producers, our hard work. Everybody that it takes you to make this show work, our guest hosts for coming in. So, you know, it really does take a village. So thank you. And our fans. Not a lot of shows get to 500 episodes. That's true. Very few. 500 baby. Okay, you guys, speaking of milestones. It's been 15 years since Miley Cyrus and Nick Jonas broke up. Fans, though, they never forget. So during her performance in Chile over the weekend, Miley noticed some very passionate signs. Punch me in the face. It's my 21st. I can't get to you and I won't do that, but happy birthday. Miley signed my tits. The punch me in the face one is weird. I think I've seen everything. I haven't seen that one. Nick Jonas, I didn't say it. I didn't say it. Just one of the other signs. She only read the first two to read the third one. Incredible. A little bit. She's skimmed the audience before she said it. We're a fan, so petty, why can't they let it go? Oh, 'cause it's so fun. I mean, I'm a petty ass bitch, so I live for this. I think it's hilarious. Classic PAB. You know me. In terms of the punch person, I do want to punch people who have signs at concerts. It's so annoying. Constructing the view. It can't be the only one who pays for a concert and then it stuck behind some 12 year old with a four by 6 sign. You better seats. What do they think's going to happen? Everyone thinks that their Owen Wilson, you know, going to get married to J.Lo from a sign. Great movie by NBC. I am not a concert goer, so I don't know anything about this life. Really? I don't like concerts. Why? Just standing there like this, that long. Usually ends in violence for me. So I say no. Yeah. Oh, okay. All right, guys, let's move on because Sierra just had to teach Russell Wilson, a thing or two about women. So if you see this around the house, don't you ever ever ever throw it away? Whenever you see a nail tip of any kind, sitting somewhere. Don't throw it away. Let's put it to the side. See? That is nasty. There's not nasty. Oh, throwing a clean house. No, don't throw it away. Glad that. Toby, where you put it. So I can say my name. Just put it to the side. Yeah, 'cause that's because I need to do that thing back on. So I can survive. Like, you could just tell they have good sex. Oh yeah. Like they have an energy within their talking, where you're like, I understand why they have so many damn babies. Yeah. You can also tell that she was chewing gum. Not to brag, but these are my nails. Wow. I just want to say that. I've been working on this for a while. I'm excited for your excitement. Thank you so much. Yeah, you can't throw away the nail tip. Don't throw in my lashes. Oh, really? Yeah, I sometimes put my last strips down. Oh, don't throw those away. You gotta put this on. I feel like nail tips are like, it's the second level of third level of what girls leave at your house. The first thing that girls leave at your house is earrings. Okay, yeah. Yeah. Had a whole little loss in power for a little while. If you're dating multiple women, you can't bring up what she left because you might mix it up. So you can't say anything. She has to bring it up. I've got to be like an airport who found a phone being like, so what was your screen saver? Hunter, do you have any thin hoops? I need a micro pop. I legitimately. You probably do have a thing. I don't have it anymore. I threw the box away a long time ago because they weren't coming to collect it. No repeat, huh? Not a lot of repeats, but then the second thing that they'll leave when they're a little more comfortable is eyelashes, which has happened a couple times. That's when they're comfortable enough for you to see them without eyes. Yes. Then the third might be nail tips, and then it's toothbrush and then they leave me all together. Okay. All right, you guys, we couldn't do a 500 show without mentioning Kim and Pete, of course. So she was in Miami promoting her skims swim line and a very what subtle outfit. Looking very shiny. Where was Pete? He was having a wild guy's night out with Scott Disick and the boys. I don't understand the video for dinner. My mom and table a similar I just want to do that. I just want to dance. I just want to like, you know, because we ourselves are just, I want to be black. Folks, miserable. Very miserable. Scott is still hanging out with the family. People are confused as to why Scott is still hanging out with the family. And I'm interested. So did Pete Davidson just hijack one of their Instagram accounts? It looks like he filmed it and then gave it to Scott. Gave it to Scott. It's not posted it. I like that. That's subtle. Talk about PBS bid. I have a fake Instagram account for my husband that he had no idea about for like a month, and it is chaotic. Boomerangs, like weird inspirational quotes, like so not him. Where people in his rooms? Oh yeah, but like people like he went to high school with works with and stuff and I was responding as him. Time of my life. That's wild. When he found out not thrilled. You would die. I have an account that does that already for me. People think it's me posting like they do things. Shirtless throwbacks, but I get messages all the time. People think of being like, hunter, I'm not going to sign up for your fanbase. Stop DMing me. And I go, I don't want you to follow my main page. I don't want to know you. Yeah, yeah. It's hard to top the queen and Oprah, but more of our super fans did actually send us messages since we're talking about fans and one even offered some expert advice. Listen, the E nightly pop, congratulations. A number 500 or 500th episode. What's up nightly pop? Congratulations on your 500th episode. That is such a great, great thing. Need a hunter, Morgan, keep doing it, keep sliding the bed with America. I am here to wish you a happy 500th episode. Make it a winner, but also make the 501st really good too. It's my challenge to you. Wow. By the way, Lonnie just did that. I just filmed daily popular. That's what she was wearing. Really? Y'all got that at the very last minute. You can't just have two. But we appreciate everybody. We do. You guys, we're going to take a break becoming up. I'm going to be doing the.

"Run off stage. And let it dream on the party again. All right. Adjusting the gap of here for the first time. Get you the club in my taxicab. Everybody is definitely looking at me now. When being a thought go. This is Jade line 2020. We'll be right back. Goes awry. The new year's special. First of all, I love how she's acting like we have never seen her city before in her life. Right. I'm like, girl, I've been seeing it in your boobies since 2016, but a true professional. Yes. True. Right off that stage and walk right back and addressed it and made a moment and for me, Miley Cyrus is one of those people who always handles herself in the right. Even when she's doing something wrong? Yes. It's like, she's still handling herself the right way. Yeah, even when she's doing something wrong, she makes it look right. Yes. And there's something to be said about that. I mean, I just love again just the fact that she kept it going. She turned around the band filled in and she was back on stage 30 seconds later, addressed it in a humorous way and just kept it moving. I mean, that is the beauty of live TV. I mean, we know we had a morning this morning where we were all racing. I mean, I got my makeup done in 8 minutes. It's no lie because of COVID and testing and making sure we're all safe. So sometimes you just have to adjust. And that is the exhilarating part of life. Right? But again, I need to hear from Janet's nipple. So she won't be like, what's up, FCC? What you gonna do about that? What'd you do about that thing nipple? You cool with that? I can't. Now let's celebrate the life of Betty White. I think everybody was heartbroken to hear the news of her passing. She was just shy of turning 100 and made a huge impact on everyone. Actually, I'm sorry, I'm just gonna go ahead and said she turned 100. We gonna go ahead and we will just round it up. We got rounded up around. Here are just a few other reasons. We all adore Betty. Rose, is this another one of those Scandinavian Viking concoctions? Yes. It's called good American food and cake. So one might say you broadca flare and Eric and into the 80s. Yes, but I'm not one to blow my own votive and flog. We all fell in love.

"And his team have been trying to contact us about you do the Super Bowl. If they don't interview that nipple. Like that. It better be like, after the break, the nipple's like, it's time for me to tell my story. Part one of the Janet Jackson documentary premieres January 28th on lifetime and a and E, why do you guys think Janet is talking now? Because she has been one of the most private individuals you have ever met. She has, but I'm so glad that she is, 'cause I hate that we speculate about other people's lives. I still want to hear as they say the expression is from the horse's mouth. But I want to hear from the adored, the legend, the amazing Janet Jackson side of the story. I want to hear it from her point of view. For sure. Yeah. And I think this is all part of being grown in your 50s where you're like, I'm unapologetic. I'm gonna say my story. I am grounded. And she is going to sing like a canary and I can not wait. You know what? I think you're right. I think it's about being grown and feeling yourself and knowing that there's nothing else to hold back, but I also think it's about. It's a way from 50. So I will take it. I will take that kind of Emancipation, that kind of transparency, and like you said, the control. For sure. I also think when you get $250 million in an alimony girl, I think you ready to talk, too. You ain't got nothing to lose. How about that part? And having them babies in her 50s. A 100% go Janet. But there's something I don't know. For me, Janet is larger than life. Why are we getting this on lifetime? What did lifetime give Janet on this? But let me not hit on lifetime because the R. Kelly documentary was that it was illegal. The windy Williams also really good. But Janet Jackson is larger than life. I want to see her on the big screen. I want to watch this like I watch Whitney. I think lifetime lets the artist really tell their story. And I think that Janet has been dying to say something for years, you know, between her dad and the brothers, and now she can actually talk and because she wants. But here's the problem. Okay. You all know. And for those of you out there, black households, what happens in the house, stays in the house. I don't think Janet Jackson can give us a three part scenario and not talk about the Michael Jackson accusations. I think she wants to talk about it. I mean, I think, you know, it's in the documentary it's in the preview, right? It's in the trailer. So I think that she is going to talk about it because her relationship with Michael was everything, and it was critical. And I think she says in the documentary, she was closest to him and Randy. So I think she does want to talk about it. And hopefully clear the air. Yeah, but how many times have you watched a celebrity do a docuseries or docu follow and you're waiting for that last part that they've been holding all these things? And then it's like, well, about my husband's infidelity. I don't think I really want to talk about it in your piss. Because I need her to talk about is that baby. I saw they're mentioning that baby from the 80s. They allege. I'm sorry. Baby. Baby. Alleged. I want to see if she's going to touch on that too. But let me make sure question did you really believe that rumor when it came out? 'cause I did. I did too. I do too. But you still do. Come on. I think it was just like I've never seen the baby. Right. And now mind I have though in my mind I have 100% 100% allegedly. Now from one famous wardrobe malfunction to another Miley lost her top during her New Year's Eve party special on NBC, and it cost her to.

"To Easter. By the way, good guess. Till Easter. He's around till Easter. Well, then there's Miley, so it's like, by the way, can we talk? Look at that transition. Caroline, all right, to make things even more complicated. Miley Cyrus is getting in on the love triangle. She just serenaded Pete on Jimmy Fallon. Check this out. You know Pete. Hey. Oh baby how could you do this to me on the wake of promoting harsh special? It's not an island. What? This shows me. Baby how could you do this to me? Leave it. Oh, my goodness. You guys, I don't confuse you. By the way, she looks incredible. She looks hot. She sounds hot. She does. She's feeling herself. You can look and tell. She was filming herself. She was just trying to feel Pete too. What's happening? Sorry. I'm flabbergasted. I would rather see those two together because he's a funny guy. She can get with the joke. I can see those two together. And she's letting him know it should have been me. And I heard that they heard matching tattoos. Okay, so that thank you, 'cause I'm not gonna read that now. You know, I need all the help I can get that is a long night with my anniversary. I am a Gaza my neck hurts. 'cause I have to fight to get up now. That's dirty. Sturdy. She fell on her swing. Did she feel like inappropriate? I can do this show. She's standing here. By the way, my neck always hurts. But it hurts more today. So what are we talking about Miley Cyrus? She looked incredible. I see them together, but I do feel like, I think Kim, I think Pete is in his dream world with Kim right now. Don't you? I mean, come on. Oh, yeah. I want to sleep with Kim Kardashian. Be Davidson that all that's all he thinks about. I can't wait to this part is over. I can't wait to this Kim and Pete thing is over. I like it to be. I don't like it. I don't like it because of the kids. Those babies are concerned. She's a lot of kids. Money is very traditional. You'll see. I am all about family and kids, but pink must have something going on. We know what it is. You guys are Patreon? I know he's got the hottest women. Yeah. I know. Oh, okay. I was gonna say it, but I can't say that. My kids might watch this. So I don't know. The other thing, do you think who's getting the new year's kiss though? Is it going to be Pete? Or is it going to be Miley and Kim? What do you want? Is it going to be that? That question out. Probably all three of them. I think it's going to be Kim. Oh, definitely. Yeah. He's writing this. I mean, first of all, because it's competition 'cause you still got Kanye over here doing the begging tour, you know? I love a big man. I don't care. You know, beg me, honey, beg these panties off, okay? I'm with you. I love it. Earnings paying us all. Exactly. Yeah. It'll be cam. They'll step out a few more times. I can't wait to see what happens at the Christmas party. All right, you guys need more proof that Lonnie's the hardest working woman in Hollywood. "Miley, Similar Eight. I'm Lulu Miller. And I'm Molly Webster. This is radio lab like red velvet bread. Look at that does look like the loaf of bread and today on the show around loaf of homemade bread with vans. That's purple and right. We have a story about a thing, but also like blood sausage bread. I think that we've all had at some point it is Patty like, Yeah, but most of us we never even knew it. And it comes to us from our contributing editor. Heather Red Key. Yeah, I'm not even on staff, and I wish you were Producer Becca Bressler. Well, I think I think I can take it. Okay. Um, I was thinking about getting pregnant and I started to do a bunch of Research. And you know, pregnancy is this thing at least for me where I was like, I know about that. You know, I took like 14 years of sex Ed and my public high school. But I'll just say, the more I learn about it. The more I realize how little I know and maybe like how little anyone knows about pregnancy, and one of the very first things I discovered was that when you're pregnant, you don't just grow a baby. You grow an entirely new organ. Uh, let me turn your whole life. You've got your heart, your lungs, your bone, your skin, your eyes, etcetera. So this is the main hospital but then all of a sudden during pregnancy. Whole new organ shows up here is our Cabinet of placentas, and that we're going is the placenta, whole placentas pieces of placentas I had heard of the placenta before, but I really didn't know anything about it. It's called the afterbirth for a reason. It's an After thought that no one thinks about. I think I thought a thing. A lot of people think, which is that The baby grows inside the placenta. I definitely thought balloon baby was inside of I mean, okay, I was pregnant, and I think I thought it was just like extra lining on my uterus. But it's not. It's not even yours. The placenta belongs to the embryo to the fetus to the baby. Uh huh. So it's actually grown by the fetus, which means that every single one of us has had a placenta. I was kind of like you. I literally had no idea what it did what His purpose was Harvey Harvey climate. He studies the placenta MD PhD physicians, scientists at Yale University, where he has a cabinet. Of placentas. We're sort of running out of room which we visited will come back to that. Kristen. I think we need another cabinet. But before we do, I'm interested in how you got interested in the placenta. Presumably, it wasn't because you got pregnant. Serendipity. So about 40 years ago, Harvey's just gotten out of medical school and I'm now a resident at University of Pennsylvania and I'm in a laboratory studying ovaries and In the lab. There was somebody else who is working on the placenta. And they were shopping up the placenta and homogenizing the placenta. And these other scientists in the lab ended up with this thing called a gradient where the different kinds of cells in the placenta were sort of separated out. They can look at them independently, and they wanted me to take a picture of the gradient. Why? Well? On the side. I'm a photographer. I've actually done bar mitzvahs and weddings like that. Yeah, I love I'm visual things I think is what interests me in general. And so I took a picture of the gradient. And I asked Jerry, who is running the lab as a Jerry, Would you mind if I looked at what they are? He said. Sure, go for it. And what Harvey saw was something that no one had ever seen before. He saw these cells sort of a bubbling cauldron of cells. There were like amoeba later, he'd make movies of them. They started moving around, and then they came together. They aggregated. Than the membranes broke down, and they used to make these multi nuclear giant cells. They were growing very aggressively in a way that surprised him. I said. That is super cool. What's going on here? Eventually figured out that what he was looking at, where stem cells, placental stem cells, and over the next few decades, he and a bunch of other scientists what start to piece together the story of the placenta. And that's the story. We're going to tell you. Cool, Okay? I'm so excited. Educate me on this organ I have had and know nothing about all right. So before we start, we just want to say a note on the word mother. Not everyone who gets pregnant or has a baby identified as a mother, But it's a word. A lot of people use when talking about pregnancy, including some of our sources. And so we're using, in addition to more inclusive language, like pregnant person and parent got it. So let's start from the beginning. You have an egg, and then if their sperm around the sperm will fertilize that egg, and then it divides, divides into two and then 48 and 16, etcetera, etcetera, by the time it gets to about 32 cluster of cells Sort of forms into two layers. It's like a tennis ball. Now there's a little cluster cells on the inside that will become the embryo that will become the fetus that would become the baby those little inside group of cells, But the cells on the outside those cells will become the placenta. So from the very first few days of pregnancy, these placental cells are wrapped around what's going to become the embryo like a little blanket. And as Harvey explained all this to us, and he walked his deeper into the story of the placenta. We started to see that pregnancy isn't a peaceful nursery rhyme kind of a story about a pregnant person nurturing a fetus until it becomes a cute little baby. It's actually more like a struggle. And not like a calm college debate..

"High an cli- deborah welcome So you and miley moyer friends. It's true it's and i've heard that you were in a way the trigger for this story. The proxy marriage. Can you tell me about that In a very small way Molly and i were in australia together. We were on book tour separately. But when you fly to australia with someone and you're there a couple of weeks and then fly back. You have a lot of to talk. And at one point miley was telling me about proxy marriage. She is from helena. Montana and montana is the only state where you can have a double proxy marriage which means neither the bride or the groom has to be present in order for forward the wedding to happen and while she was telling me about that i said wow that sounds like a short story. What do you think that miley does best in her writing. What is it. Sp- greatest characteristic my gosh Such a fan. I'm not even going to say. This is the greatest characteristic of miles writing but the greatest characteristic of miley as a person is that anything she decides. She wants to put her mind to she and she is always trying new things. She will research and study and practice and then be fantastic at it. When i met miley. She wrote short stories. I really believe she is one of our absolute greatest living short story writers and then she decided she wanted to write novels and then she decided she wanted to write middle grade fiction and then picture books and now. She's working on a graphic novel and she's doing screenplays and this also applies to things like laying tile which she can also do

"Which would be awesome. It does not forgive. It does not absolve them of blame for what they did to the bullpen. Which was they chose to make it worse and when you chose to make it worse you put more pressure on every other part of the team. Starting pitching is actually pretty decent. But it's gotta be ironclad. it's gotta be foolproof. It's gotta be almost perfect every single night. This offense for the most part has been pretty good. There are some individuals who are drastically underperforming. But now instead of being being able to overcome leaving the bases loaded the eighth or leaving two guys on tonight thinning instead the bullpen. Now is set up to fail because the front office and mainly ownership. Set it up to fail but yeah would you rather talk about how your bias that to me. That was to me. The big takeaway. Oh look here's something that can distract everybody's attention not the fact that good hitters blue missed opportunities not the fact that wade miley pitched poorly and again those things happen certainly not the fact that the bullpen was set up to fail and bit pretty much doomed to fail not the fact that nobody right now has much confidence that they're going to be able to drastically. Make the team better by friday afternoon. But let's get mad at a guy in the other team for yelling at the pitcher that he got the game. Winning hit off of they should right. I'm telling you the folks with the reds should write a thank you note to havi air buyers because the takeaway of the game for me was not what avi air by is did. You know that they're just the you wanna hear the solos so you know it was posts encouragement and then the thing happens with pressure. Where hey you're doing a solo on an ozzy song so step the fuck up and i like pressure. I like being made to perform god who perform right. Now you know and so it was just. It was so much fun. I think chad was over while i was doing solo. And he's always like the best cheerleader. Because it's like it's good enough for chad. Maybe maybe it's good enough for everyone else. That's out like. Richest like man. This is so amazing. Lake the the miley record like five sauce. Like it's just it's just sort of insane kind of the the breadth of the production. And this is where i was gonna say something about stevie nicks but that will just fall into a rabbit hole probably sudden right now. Now you can man all good did you. Did you actually get to interact with stevie in any capacity or was it all through email or something i did. It was really really great We were working on the song And poor speaking sky odyssey the remixed version. Just one. yeah that was. Yeah you know when we were doing the song and the song has it's obvious not edges seventeen Miley reached out to stevie being. you know. she's so. Respectful are creators of of You know lineage. Of music realtor to show the song and be like. Hey you know this has a little nod to you. I hope this is cool and stevie in stevie fashion which now i know 'cause i got to talk to her a little bit was so receptive and so cool and was like i don't even hear the similarity besides that guitar rhythm. I love the song. It's so great. So it was kind of like the natural progression which that in her doing doing the remix And then you know we were. We were working on it and talking to her over the phone because there's in covid. Her assistant actually recorded vocals in her apartment. And we were kind of sending them back and forth doing notes together and she stays up real late really so you know i would get this call from an unknown number after she would hear the next bounce and i remember kind of fallen asleep in my bed one night talking stevie nicks about Just we've just got into a whole conversation about the world and then it was kinda one of those things where i was like kind of dozing off until an amazing dream. Steve is talking to hello still kinda kinda there. But if felt like a dream and it was a dream And we had to work through the wee hours night to kind of get it done in time for when they all wanted to come out But another situation where is like is this fucking real like you know steve. You know that song is one of the greatest recordings ever And then i got to get the multi tracks and fucking listening to them in the studio playing listen to those drums by themselves and listening to that amazing waddy wachtel guitar by itself. And and sit with it in my. It was what inspired me to make the other songs so it was it was just really kind of surreal and amazing and those kinds of things you know you you just do for the love of music and it's like one of the one of the perks of doing this amazing job. Is that you get to connect with you know people that have touched you in the reason. Why your ear and it's never lost on me and i'm so grateful for the opportunity to do that. You know i love. I love the fact that what can like is is a student of liner notes. Knows all the guitarist and players on all these incredible records. And as i am by dad had a huge crate. Vinyls as a kid and i sat and i went through every single lawn and read every single thing. And who's playing those horns on on the odds michio parker who's like learning all those guys you know just a those guys are the shit and that's that's what. I became a studio musician playing on other people's records and stuff like that like you said who's a qatar player on the post malone song like this just you know you hear something that touches you needs to be able to flip over record and says it boom right there A student of liner notes. The best way. I've ever heard it put my thing all let you take it away from here and do what you want to take what you want. I would like to do and say thank you so much for talking to us today. We really appreciate it and can't wait to hear more music from you coming soon working on right now and just kind of run outside because i could realize that through my basically you might be able to hear something. I was working on that. We didn't we didn't have. It's probably just stevie nicks recording her next album with you wish. Can we just make that happen. Let's just wishing to the universe. Nato happen that would be so cool. We really appreciate it. Thank you guys had a blast. Thank you be good. Thanks no.

"Said jenny. Tell us what made you develop this. Podcast yeah it was kinda journey. I was in the workforce. I've worked for the same company my entire career which is a little rare but it's a large organization. I'm in the accounting finance function. So i was ten years into my career before. I got pregnant and i kind of thought it was another. You know like life van you get married and then you can go back to your career and you continue on with your goals and now my life is just a little different because i have this beautiful baby and when i actually went through it. I was so shocked at how unprepared i was to transition. Back to the workforce after maternity leave. I did a lot of preparation for my pregnancy and birth in you know breastfeeding and sleep trine and there was nothing about going back to work and so i kind of just thought like making the decision to go back was the hardest part because you hear a lot about women that don't return to the workforce after maternity. Leave him. i from the the beginning of miley. I was very clear that i wanted to go back and then spending every day with a newborn i definitely knew i wanted to go back but then that whole first year of being back in the workforce was hard and i was unprepared for it. I felt like nobody talked about it. I felt like a failure as a mother and an employee and it took a lot of reflecting and navigating. Sue kind of come to this point where i realized that i had an identity crisis that i didn't know who i was as a career woman. I didn't know who i was as a mom. I didn't know who was as a person. And as i was kind of figuring some of that stuff out i started having conversations with peers at work our friends that were also working moms and i'm like heard this term like identity shift or identity crisis and everybody was like. Oh my gosh yes that totally happens. I totally had that exact same thing. The first year or two back at work is so hard. And i was just like how. Come no one's talking about this. How come i didn't know. And after some of these conversations we would get so into the topic that we'd like man. Isn't there a podcast episode about

"To Lars Larson code. It's a pleasure to be with you. And when I was a kid, my dad was an alcohol like my mom was dead when I was 10. So teachers were some of my best friends. Now frequently. I am critical of the teaching institutions that many American teachers work in. Because the schools, I think collectively failed American students on a regular basis Well, their latest failure is that apparently Chicago teachers have voted to refuse to do in person instruction. He took the vote last Sunday and the Chicago school District said you need to come to work on they said No, we're gonna work remotely. We will work when and where and how we decide to work. I thought we talked to Miley Smith, who's a staff attorney and director of labor policy for the Illinois Policy Institute, a Miss Smith. Welcome to the program. Thank you. Thanks for having me tonight. So if I framed that right that the teachers were saying, we don't care what are employers said, We're not coming back to work until we decide when and where and how. You have bring that exactly right. And the teachers union CTU Chicago Teachers Union hold incredible power over the purists and students in Chicago. This would be their fourth strike. In less than nine years, and it's because they like you said opposed re opening school. This is despite the fact that they've met over 60 times with the district. The district has said they agree on major health and safety issues. Huh? Really? When it comes right down to it, this is If you didn't push back that is about political power. It's not really about the safety of the teachers and students. So can I call you Miley? Yes, that's fine. Miley. Tell me this are when we say political power. In this case, they're not saying we'll come back. If you pay us more, you will come back if you give us better health benefits and pension benefits. They're just flexing some muscles. If you will to say we want to show that we're going to call the shots, Not you, the administrators of the school system. That is exactly right. They they have a history like I've said of going on strike, and they like to demand things that are outside the typical You know, educational issues that you would find in a contract. This is about showing who's boss. It's a It's a political play. It comes straight out of their playbook. Over the years where they pride themselves in setting the stage for other teachers strikes. They point back for their 2012 teachers strike and say that it At the stage for the teacher strikes around the country that followed. So they like to be that political player that paved the way for the other unions. Now, Miley, you're an attorney. So I'm gonna ask you a couple of legal questions on this, but I'll make him easy, okay, because I'm just a just a note. I'm a non lawyer. Thank God but Number one is such a strike legal on number two if they're coordinating with other teachers unions around the country to engage in an illegal strike. Does that? Can we please God, Can we please make this fit The definition of Rico a racketeering in corrupt organizations. If you're about to do something illegal, and you're doing it in league with other organizations that also seek to strike illegally is does not meet the definition of Rico. That the great question and I could speak to the Illinois lost part of this it was teacher strikes are legal. In Illinois. However, they are not legal. If the teachers currently have a contract in place, and that is the situation we have in Chicago right now, they have a contract that runs until 2024. So they're stepping out on on that contract right by failing to show up for work, which is what it looks like It's going to happen by failing to report to their schools. That could be seen by our labor board as a strike, and if it is, it's in the legal ones. They cannot walk out on strike if they have a contract in place. Well, Miley I'm one of those Neanderthals who believes that if somebody says I have a job, I have an agreement to show up with the job. And in this case, even a contract. Many average workers don't have a contract with your employer. But if they say we're not going to show up in the contract requires his show up. Then how about just pink slips and replacement workers? And that's a possibility. Should it be determined This was an illegal strike. Now there are protections in place for for teachers. Other union represented workers to go on strike. But If this is not legal, as it appears suit cannot be illegal. Then the the District can discipline teachers say I know that CPS Chicago public schools has a progressive discipline policy. It may start out with, you know, being fined for the day. Whatever it is, it progresses along the way they would stand the chance of losing your job if they refused to come to work. So if they wanted to be really aggressive about this school district administration could say your order to come to work on Monday. You didn't come to work you're gonna find Tuesday. Your order to come to work. You didn't come to work suspension for a day and whatever it takes to work your way up the chain toe where you finally get to the real, you know the real instrument, and that is If you don't come to work tomorrow you are. You are done. You're you're fired and you're replaced. How long does it take to get because I'm not anxious to fire teachers. But listen, I have a contract with my employer. I fulfill my contract every single day. I have people who work for me right there Great producers. But if one I'm just said, I'm not coming to work for no good reason for no legal reason. I'd say you don't show up. I mean, I would be very progress in that case. Well, I'm a conservative The rest of the time. I'd be very progressive. We would progress very quickly Tow a pink slip. If somebody just said, I'm not coming to work. I'm not entirely sure how many steps that process is in CPS is disciplinary policy. Their CEO has indicated she'd rather not jump into Hiring teachers..
