"Totally spot on there. When you have Jacob degrom, you have Max Scherzer, and then you have Chris Bassett, who hasn't a lot of run in August. That's an elite three. And then you put Edwin Diaz in there who has proved. He's not just a three out 9th inning guy. He can give you 6 if you need him. He did it against the braves who like I just said are a high quality offense. That team is about as dangerous as it gets. And they somewhat remind me of that 2015 royals team, the team that won was starting pitching the team that won with bullpen, but I had timely bats, but the mets bats are better than that royals team that won the World Series. The mets are certainly dangerous. Let's stick in the national league, continue this wild card race conversation. Would you back the Phillies moving forward here for the remainder of the season? It depends. Do I think they have a very good shot at the playoffs because I think the brewers are running a little bit thin yes. Do I think that they were performed well in the playoffs? I'm going to go out on a limit. I'm going to say no. The way I value good baseball teams is you've got to play good defense. You got to pitch really well and you got to have timely heading. When the Phillies are all putting it together, they can hit anybody. And they can pitch with anybody with Zach Wheeler Arnold and ranger Suarez. But rangers wars goes through highs and lows. The Phillies offense goes through highs and lows. At the beginning of the season, I called them the most polarizing team in Major League Baseball because when everything's going right, they look amazing, just like it has been over the past month or so. Maybe even longer than that. But we remember the lows with Philly. And I feel that maybe they're getting hot at possibly the wrong time. I'm certainly not writing them off because they can continue this, but we saw the bats go really cold against New York and their last series. Does that continue to carry over? I'm interesting. I'm interested to see. I think you've already answered this, but in saying that the brewers are getting cold, but who wins the central St. Louis or Milwaukee? I've said the Saint Louis Cardinals should win this division since the beginning. And I thought there were additions of Jose Quintana and Jordan Montgomery's exactly what they needed to do. They needed starting pitching depth behind a 40 year old Adam Wainwright who continues to defy the odds. Miles Michael, had a really big blow up outing against the Colorado Rockies, but he's still legit. Now you add those two with a guy like Andre pilati, who's in their rotations well, but more of a bullpen piece. And then we talk about Edwin Diaz. Ryan helsley has been almost as good in the back end of their bullpen. They have elite pitching. They are the opposite of the Phillies, where they play incredible defense. You have two MVP candidates and Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado. They are the team to beat in the central in my opinion. In the American League central, a three team. I'm saying in the American League central who comes out of the three team race between Cleveland, Minnesota and Chicago. I really don't believe in the White Sox anymore. I gotta say, this is a team that is funny. You see this article that was posted on Reddit. The White Sox in the past 365 days have hurt every single part of the body imaginable.

They barely hold on for dear life against the Pittsburgh purse, 8 to 7 the final as the Giants may very nearly up chugged defeat from the jaws of victory. They are up 5 to zero in this one and then they lie to pirates offense. That's not so great to be able to come back as Brian Reynolds gets a 17th armored season. "A minute. Hold on. So they were like, okay, so here's what I'm given to understand from this tweet. I'm given to understand that they have the ability to break Twitter and the way that they decided to use that was not to take it down permanently, but to tweet that fun fact? I'm getting 279 characters from a different character coming. I have agreements. I think I am demanding restitution. I am here to say that I will run on a platform of no more spam calls. No more ridiculous tweets and I will win. I will win, Ben. I don't know what I'm running for, but whatever it is, I'm gonna win. Twitter's up to 280 now, right? I don't know. It's too many. Yeah, you probably shouldn't even test that limit, but it's two 80. You know? When you're getting up there, it's like, go right a blog. Friends. Gorgeous, leave this one in the drafts potentially too. Too long. Looks like they were somewhere between one and three characters underneath the limit. So they just snuck in under the wire there. Doesn't mean that they should have, but they could have, and they did. And if you were the author of this tweet, please email us and just let us know how this came to your attention. Alarms go off at the stats office, like it's finally the day we've been waiting for. That gift from the office? Yeah, right. People are running for the doors that people are sliding down fire people. Confetti is coming out everywhere. I hope someone was just glued to the last game of the night. Just making sure we can't have a walk off here because this will spoil the fun fact that we've been waiting decades or centuries to deploy here all the conditions are satisfied. No one screw this up. No one steal a third base. Just a wild, fun fact. It actually, it's like some kind of horseshoe theory thing where it goes all the way around from being a terrible fun fact with too many qualifiers to just like I have to tip my cap to just how incredibly convoluted to this is because I actually did have fun reading and thinking about it, not in the traditional sense necessarily. But in some sense. No, see, you had fun, but I am aggrieved. I am a grieved Ben. I have grievance. I would like to, again, I am demanding restitution. So we have a guest today that will be the bulk of the episode Evan drew of the athletic is here to talk to us about MLB's antitrust issues and the fact that Congress is kind of coming after MLP's antitrust exemption. Again, but maybe in a more serious way than before and also there will not be an international draft for now, so Evan has been reporting on those negotiations, which ended up going nowhere, and he will tell us why and how, and then we'll also get into minor league pay with him and a big class action lawsuit that was just settled that led to a big payout for some minor leaguers. So we'll get into all of that and more very soon. There has been some news, but you know, I have nothing new or very nice to say about the latest round of high profile anti vaxxers who have come to light since we discussed the last round. We talked about the Phillies contingent. We talked about the royals contingent. Now there's a cardinal's contention and I'm sure everyone has read the cookie cutter quotes and the fact that it's a team again in contention in a very tight playoff race, very core contributors to that team. Maybe not so much Austin Roman, although, well, he's on the roster too. But it did remind me that Austin romine is on that roster. Yeah, there was that. I had forgotten publicity, so this might be bad publicity, at least in some quarters, but no one are not and Goldschmidt, of course, and the two most important players are positioned players on that team. They are needed in that lineup. They will not be there for some games in Toronto for the usual reasons. I think the only new wrinkle here was that miles Michael, who did get vaccinated, then came out as not even an anti vaxxer, but vaccine regretted. He was like, I wish I hadn't gotten it. Not because of anything that happened to him. He didn't suggest that he personally had suffered some side effects or ill consequences of this. He just said something nebulous about he's heard some stuff or something that he resents having to get it or something. So he had to say was nothing, and he could have not been part of that story, but he came out and kind of lumped himself together with the others even though he actually did get the shots and we'll get to be eligible for those games. Yeah, I mean like I guess we'll just like I never know like how much we have to say to our audience about this although every time we talk about the vaccine stuff we get at least one email. It's like you're right about so many things bigger wrong about that and I'm like, no, we're not. I mean like wasn't Nolan Arenado's reason that he and his wife are trying to have a baby and he's worried about him. That's not a thing. Not a thing. Not a thing. It's important to say nothing. I guess I'll just reiterate my what is your plan? Because like I just really struggle to believe that those two guys are like not gonna if they advance through the playoffs to a point that they would have to contend with the Blue Jays and the postseason we're talking about World Series games. And like right now as we're recording this, I think they are losing to Toronto so that's a thing they are currently too back of the brewers and the central but like if you if you're advancing to the World Series are you really gonna sit out World Series games because you didn't wanna get the shot? I just refused to believe that that's true and if it's not, you're like, we're not making the World Series this year. Like that's the supposed admission that comes with that, right? Because if it's not a thing they just don't think the Blue Jays will.

"It kind of makes no sense to me. Both of those guys should be on. I think there's an argument to be had for Taylor Rogers for the Padres out of the bullpen. He's had a terrific, he's second in the league and saves. So I mean, the tough part about snubs is when you're saying somebody snubbed at me, somebody you're replacing somebody on the team. And when you look at the roster as it's constructed, I don't know that there's a guy that can't be replaced, but certainly ty France, miles Michael is those two names off top. I think we're snubbed and should be on that roster. Yeah, they're both having incredible years. And I was talking about a big time yesterday going like, no, it's time we put respect on miles Michael is his name, and what does he do? He goes out and pitches a gem against nola, who is himself having a hell of a year. Yes he is. Yeah, man, I'm loving both of these guys as seasons. Ty France really turning it on, especially lately with the, everything that the Mariners are doing, by the way, I've been watching a few Mariners games lately. And yeah, they're 9 and one in their last ten, but man, Julio Rodriguez. That guy is real. I saw him take a change up about a baseball and a half in off the plate and hit it up on the western metal supply building and left field. And it was just, you know, when you watch a hitter and they end up having to kind of tuck their hands and stay inside a baseball. To see them do that in real time and fast motion, this dude, this dude is a this is a guy as they like to say. He is a guy in this league and expect to see him in All-Star Game. Expect to see him in an MVP race at some point in his credits dude is the truth. He's a really good ball player. And he's only going to get better. Dude, I love watching him do everything. Watching run the bases is exceedingly fun. And when it's running the bases, the least favorite thing in the world and he makes it the most joyous thing in the world. He runs as hard as anybody I've seen at his size in a very, very long time. And this dude's like 6 5, but he runs, he's runs like a gazelle. Except when he tripped around second base the other day. He didn't seem to seem more like a baby deer in that standpoint. He tripped halfway himself made it, the momentum almost took him to the plague. I know. He tried to crawl his way in there, unfortunately, the ball beat him there. Oh, man. Well, hey, all star weekend coming up. I mean, any good memories of the All-Star Game. I love, I just love the All-Star Game. It's why. The home run Derby personally is my personal favorite, obviously, and of course you got who's going to win it this year. Well, obviously it's Pete Alonso. He's always going to win. He's the former Derby final boss now. He's the boss of the end point of the game, yeah. He's built for he's built for home run. My favorite memory is still 1994. The walk off hit. And my dad's scores. That was at a time where, you know, these dudes like really cared about who won or lost that game. And it's not that these guys don't know. It's just different. You know, at that time, I think the national league had lost ten straight games. And they came in with a mindset of breaking the streak today. And to see it in the way it does, that's how you want all star games to finish, right? With some type of last play, walk off, punch out, whatever it is, that's how they should be. And that's, you know, that's the spirit in which they should be played. Amazingly, I think of 1997, sandy Alomar junior in Cleveland hitting a go ahead home run off of Sean estes of all. For whatever reason, I remember that so vividly. The other thing I remember the first time I ever got to watch ichiro play was in the All-Star Game and he started off with what an inside the park home run in his first at bat. Where was that? Was that in San Francisco? San Francisco bounced. We had to run an extra 200 yards to where the ball of the shade too. Inside the park home run. And I'm just like, this guy unreal. It is real. Everyone's been talking about this each year a guy. He really is the real deal. He was each row was he was so unique because I don't think we had ever seen a style of hitting like that before I think everybody when you watch them when hitters watching you assumed though he's on his front foot, but when you like actually dissected his swing, this dude had incredible balance. And the ability to hold his weight with all of it moving the way it was was, was murdered. That's why he's got so many so many damn hits. I'll never understand how he's able to adjust to any pitch the way amazing. Just incredible that he could do it. Lastly, the jerseys. What do you think of the all star jerseys with the gold riding the gold font on the hats? I mean, it's better than last year. I love them. And I'll tell you why. Last year pissed me off so much because I grew up watching all star games with teams at least wearing something that you could distinguish who they were. Now, this year, the gold doesn't make it obvious, but I think most baseball fans can distinguish a logo immediately when they see it on the front of the Jersey. And I'm just so glad they went back to putting the team's Jersey on there. Now, I would like them to have their own colors and maybe you put the gold stitching around the regular colors so we can, you know, it's obvious it's a padre. It's a Dodger. It's a Cleveland Cleveland guardian. But I tell you, it's much better than last year, so I will take it. I will take it. Yeah. It's definitely an upgrade from last year, and oh, and by the way, congratulations to your Padres, and the sweetest uniforms. I wasn't on them at first, and I quickly changed my mind. I love the Padres. I tell you what, when we did the meeting, I didn't know how to feel about them at first. But then you start seeing them like on the player and full uni, they look so much better than they do standing alone. Like are just hung up on a hanger. I thought, really, the Padres were tough, right? Because they have gone through so many uniform changes. Yeah, I always describe it. It was like, this organization is constantly in a constant crisis of faith when it comes to colors. They weren't every color under the sun at this point. So there was really only one way to go when it came to city connection. They don't have the history of a White Sox or Dodgers where you could keep the same colors that they already have. We just probably just changed their uniforms two years ago. So you couldn't really, you know, use the same color scheme. We've already been through like every blue shade. There is on the Planet Earth. So I like where they win. I like the tie in with Baja, California. I just thought it's one of the best city connect uniforms. I think that we have in the league, for sure. Absolutely love them.

"As of right now look like the sexiest trade market coming up, but every team seems like they're a buyer with the exception of like four teams. Tigers royals and the angels and athletics are pretty much the only sellers in the American League. Yeah, and you know, it's going to be interesting because I think a lot of times, especially when there's a new playoff element at it, right? Like it was the shortened season. You don't really understand the significance of it until you start getting into close to the deadline time and beyond. Because nobody's really paying attention to playoff standings until you start getting to the deadline and you start paying attention to it because obviously teams are looking to get better. As you get to the deadline, you use your only last chance to get better. And so it's going to be interesting to see what the trade market looks like. Because it seems like there's going to be a ton of buyers with, as you said, very few sellers. But that always ends up shaking out a little bit differently than we see it from this distance. As we get closer and closer, some teams are going to start to fade out. Some teams are going to make the decision that it's not worth mortgaging a future to bring somebody in. You're going to have teams that are not afraid of rentals. You're going to have teams that will absolutely touch a rental at all. And it's going to make for a very interesting market. And I tell you what, once you get into September, you're really going to see some of, I think, the best baseball because those two extra wildcard spots are going to make a huge difference. As you said, there are four teams within four games of the last two wildcard spots right now. And I imagine that that becomes more as we get closer to the deadline. So it's going to be so intriguing to see how this all shakes out. But it's certainly going to be a buyer's market. I would guess in this new playoff system that we have. Far more demand than there actually is supply. So who knows? It might lead to someone overpaying for like a Wilson Contreras who was just a catching rental over 30 years old, but hey, he's an offensive baddies starting catcher in this upcoming All-Star Game. Before we get to the All-Star Game, I do want to ask you one question because this week I finally came to a realization about a team that you and I both want to see when, but it's very clear it just can't happen. I want your thoughts on my thought is on this. The angels. Yeah. It's time to trade trout in Otani. Yep. It's time to move on and quite frankly start all over. They can not win with this structure. I'll say this. It would be easiest if you trade both. But if you are insisting on keeping one, it's time to trade Mike Trout. It is. I mean, it blows my mind to even say that. But a, you have proven over, I don't know what. How long has it been? Ten years, ten years? Over ten years of trying it in this system and it hasn't come anywhere close to working. And so because of that, for one, I'm a Big Mike Trout fan. I want to see him playing in October when games matter. And listen, he may not. He may not be tripping about it. He may be okay, you know, playing in Anaheim, what in the state there he's comfortable there. And I respect that. I had a father who was the same way. So I hold no issues with that. However, as a fan, it's just, it's sad that we don't get to see the best player in baseball. Get a chance to plan a postseason. And so I'm not trying to move him and his family, but if you're the angels, his market is as good as it gets. You could get whatever you want. And I think if you have to keep on you keep all tiny, because he's younger. He is going to at least while you're rebuilding, but behinds in the seats. And that's something that every team worries about. So you either trade both or I think you trade trout. If you trade both obviously, there is, you better, you better make sure you get it right though. You can't. Oh, man. You can not have a trade, whether it's both or one of them, where you don't absolutely maximize everything you can possibly get for getting them, or this this is a moot point. Yeah, no, I couldn't agree more. If you trade one or both of these guys, you are getting a World Series in 2020 16 back. That's how you should be thinking of it at least, right? Yeah, you're getting back a ton of impact players that you know are can't miss impact players. I mean, it's top of the line type prospects. But yeah, well, we'll see what happens, but yeah, at the end of the day, it's been ten years. And you brought up your dad as a point. Here's my only my only caveat to that, the Padres were dynamite in the 90s and 80s, man. They made playoffs all the time. He was at least on a winning team, Mike Trout hasn't been to a playoffs and what? 9 years or if at all? Yeah, no. I mean, listen, my pops did go from 84 where they got to the World Series, and that reached the playoffs again until 96. So he spent a 12 year period, and then they got there in a couple years and went to a World Series. So on. But you're right. My trial, he's only experienced the playoffs once. I believe in. I might even be wrong about that. Has he ever been to playoffs? I feel like he caught the tail end. His early seasons catching a play. I think they got swept. I wanted to say it was by the Astros, but was he on that team where the famous John lackey where he got pulled early against the Yankees? Was he on that? He might have been on that team. He very well might have been on it. I think he's gotten there once. I'm not a 100% sure. We're going to have to look it up. But we got to look that up. There's no doubt that it's really, it's not a service to his career that he's only been to the playoffs once. If that, we'll find out if that's even true. Yeah, drives me nuts. Well, we'll look forward to the trade market coming forward, but hey, before that fun times in the sun, Los Angeles, we got the All-Star Game coming up. A lot of all stars announced any surprises for you. It really no surprises more. It's more of a surprise on the other side when certain players are not brought in. Any snubs that caught your eye because there's a couple in there that really did catch my eye and there's a couple in there. And Tony, first things first, your pods, man. Love them, love them, love them. How you doing? Man. Good to be with you. As always. They're playing some good ball, man. We just came off that 7 game roadie that started horribly. They get swept in St. Louis. The offense was anemic and then on Thursday, you fly into Milwaukee. Offense wakes up a little bit and then Taylor Rogers has a hard time closing the album brewers walk off and you would think after those four losses, like, oh man, here we go, you've had some three straight bad losses at an M1 heartbreaking loss. And in a bounce back, they win the next 3M Milwaukee. They take three or four, they do two things really well. I think probably as good if not better than everybody else. They start pitching is unbelievable. I mean, they lead the league in quality start. Joe musgrove leading away right now, he's got to be your NL starter in the All-Star Game. And they play defense. They don't make very many mistakes. And then that little short four game skid they had, the one thing they do offensively, if they come up with timely hits. They hadn't been coming up with those in that four game loser streak, but the last three games, you started to see that kind of timely hitting come about. And this is a good team. I don't think they're going anywhere. And my guess is come deadline time. They'll make some moves or whatever moves they feel necessary to help this ballclub. But this team is well managed, they got the right kind of veterans and their locker room. This is a good thing they got going in San Diego right now. Yeah, they do. And they do have the mess. Yeah. Coming in and the mets just had a split a series with the Los Angeles Dodgers. And the mets are banged up a little bit, but they are still a devastatingly good team, one of the best in baseball, but you brought up Joe musgrove, man. And of course, the pods themselves going still kind of going neck to neck with Los Angeles Dodgers, looking at them right now. Pods are 30 and 20, man, 600 winning percentage. There are only three games back of the Dodgers right now, and I mean, we all agree and we all agreed last year as well, that the Dodgers are the very best team in baseball. They're just ridiculous, but hey man, it's not a foregone conclusion that they're gonna win this. In fact, somebody asked me the other day on one of my other shows. If I were to lay down a bet right now, what would I lay down? The Dodgers to win the NL west or the brewers to win the NL central. And everyone's first thought immediately is the Dodgers and also the odds are better for the higher for the Dodgers to win their division, but the brewers are going to win their division by 20 games pretty much it looks like. And the Dodgers might, if they do win the division with the Padres in there, they might only win it by three or four if they're lucky if the Padres don't continue to get healthier and better because the Padres are doing this with Fernando tatis. Listen, I think if you want to make some money, that's certainly the way to go is the brewers. I mean, I think after watching Milwaukee after watching cardinals and back to back series, they're both really, really good teams, but the Bruce started brewers pitching. And by the way, they're doing this banged up as well. I mean, Adam has been out early as his missed some time. Woodward's out right now with an ankle. They've got some injuries on that brewer's ball club and yet they're still finding ways win. I like where you're going with it, the code. I think Milwaukee, although the Dodgers have rained in are probably the best roster in baseball. I still think the brewers are a better bet in order to win a national league central versus what the Dodgers are deal with Dodgers got at least two, three teams in that division that can give them issues in terms of winning the division. Milwaukee really only has the cardinals to deal with. The other three teams in that division are not very good. Yeah, it's just the fact. I mean, look at them. They're the reds. The reds are terrible. The pirates, not great. Not great. It's a two team race. And the Cardinals, I think, are playing above where they really are. They're pitching way above where they've been. I mean, miles Michael is up until his most recent start. Now, miles, Mike, this is a very good picture, but he had a one ERA going into his last start, and he has missed no starts the series. He's been so he's been psy young worthy this season. So it's been a phenomenal year over there in St. Louis as well, but yeah, you guys got to assume the Cardinals have that. I mean, the brewers truly have that division well in his hand. And I do want to bring up another player you mentioned about the Padres, Joe musgrove, man. I said the other day when he was facing Cory burns that this is going to be Joe musgrove's true coming out part. Now, when I say that, he's coming out party was very last year when he threw that no hitter and had an unbelievable season and I've been saying for a while that I think Joe musgrove is the Padres ace and he's been the Padres since he signed I hear no lies. He's currently sitting at plus 600 for the NL Cy Young second best odds against the pitcher that he beat the other night who's currently sitting with plus three 25. Listen, I've been telling people to jump on Joe musgrove for weeks and weeks and weeks. If you don't jump on Joe Musk, if you're a gambling guy at all and you don't jump on Joe musgrove now, you're gonna miss on the boat because he's gonna be the best pitcher in base. Stop gambling. If you're not taking Joe musgrove right now for real. It's a pretty easy grab right now and get a chance to watch this guy every 5th day is nothing short of remarkable the way he goes about it. He's unique from the standpoint is you gonna get his repertoire is 5 pitch, 6 pitch rivers are you gonna get all of it? At any given time. And as a hitter, as you know, Cody, when a pitcher has no fear of throwing any pitch at any time, you can't eliminate anything, and it makes it way, way more difficult as we saw as he took that no hitter into the 8th before coat and Wong doubled off the wall..

"Well brian walden. The the playoffs are here. Had a a fun game last night. With the red sox and the yankees. And now it's the national league's turn and that means it's the cardinals and the dodgers good morning to you in. This should be a fun night. A baseball absolutely. And it's pleasure to talk to you on the on the eve of this big game. The whole season comes down to one nine inning game and of course max scherzer the the local products. Who's been so successful for. So long against adam wainwright at for me. This feels like the best possible situation for the cardinals which is come in and that one game and punch knockout. When it's still in my opinion the best team in baseball which is los angeles dodgers and shares. Her obviously is a tremendous competitor. He reminds me a lot of chris. Carpenter in how he approaches his work on the mound. But there's a crack in the door and that is at zor. His last two times out a gave up eleven runs in ten and a third innings. And that's very uncharacteristic for him you don't know if maybe he was cruising or maybe there's a you know some fatigue or a minor injury you know he's not as young as it used to be of course either wayne right on the other side of the coin you know. Both pitchers are well rested. So you know. There's no reason why those two couldn't pitch deep into this game and of course we're a twenty six man roster teams can put a number of pitchers ready and they'll be probably quicker with the hook than usual even though these guys are our top line guys for example on the cardinal side and then we haven't seen rosters yet but we believe that both dakota hudson and miles michael will be available for long relief then. Of course you have. Kim and potentially jack flirty as well. So you could potentially have five starters Ready to pitch this game for the cardinals. You know what's interesting is how we saw the game play out last night with the red sox and the yankees to your point that. Hey if a guy's not looking the way that you want to see him go you're gonna pull them. And that's what aaron booed did last night with garrett cole and you may see that tonight with either wayne writer sherzer. It's very similar situation. Dan i mean garrett colas was considered the best pitcher on either one of those two rosters and you know in in that big game..

"Well katie on tuesday night. The cardinals clinched a wild card. Berth and picked up their seventeenth straight win. That means they're headed for a one game wild card matchup either against the defending champion. La dodgers or the san francisco giants. We have to assume that one game wild card matchup would see adam wainwright on the mound who we mentioned earlier has been on fire. So how'd you like the cardinals chances. I do like their chances. And in one game wild card if you are looking to see them go against the giants or the dodgers you know. These are all three teams with very historic postseason. Excellence especially as of late. But if you're going to take your chances and you're gonna look to adam wainwright who has been the constant stellar source of stability for this team all year long. And you're going to match against max scherzer for the dodgers. You know that's a well pitched matchup that i think we'll go down to the wire but they call it the wild card game for a reason and you know i really do like their chances in the wildcard game. I don't think it'll be a blow up by any means. But i do think they hold much more realistic odds of winning. That game than people would expect finally katie. If they do get past the one game wild card could you see the cardinals continuing this momentum and making a deep playoff run. I had again. It all goes back to momentum and who's getting hot at the right time and all goes into how you carry yourself through the month if you keep winning and feel more confident. It's more easy to carry that momentum over the cardinals aren't getting jocularity. Back and dakota husband to start saving without for the majority of the year. we'll have john lesser. They have miles michael and they have the pitching staff they were inspecting all year. Long their offense is finally clicking one through nine they can hit the ball and their defense and based on discuss has been on display all year. So you know. I do think it's again all about who gets hot at the right time and i cannot think of a team hotter than these articles. Thank you so much katie. Really appreciate you breaking this down. "I let you go and well one other baseball question to lester in. Hap trade deadline came and went cardinals. Didn't do much. Obviously you get lester. You get hap- guys on the backside. What did you think about that. Well i mean not. Thrilling editions Those guys have accomplished a ton There's the point where you don't expect a lot. And we haven't seen a lot from them in their first their first shots at it. Here the cardinals. I think we're making the move for a couple reasons. One they were able to protect johanna gaito And woodford who were getting kind of rocked around a little bit it protects. Their confidence allows them to get a little more seasoning which is probably good It also you know. The staff has been so unreliable in so reluctant to be able to give quality starts. That may be if those guys do benefit from a change of scenery than you get them for. Low cost to guys were kind of at dead ends in their time with the cardinals. Engand in thomas traded out along with a minor leager. And maybe you know you something. Good sparks from having a bunch of veteran guys who note pitching in a rotation together And i can see why they tried I thought it was a little underwhelming. My biggest complaint. I wrote about this. Was that that that the help didn't come sooner and i know the cardinals can say hey. Look at. How few pitchers move this season before the deadline. How were we supposed to get it. Fair fair argument. They can say look at the prices paid for some of the better pitchers. We didn't want to give up our top prospects another fair argument however every year. There's a team that beats the market every year. There's a team that goes out and makes trade before you know before everyone else starts. Someone has to be. I every year And unfortunately the cardinals couldn't find a way to do that. And i think if they would have either. When miles michael gets hurt spring training or especially when jack player he goes down to they might be they might have been in a better spot to make more competitive deadlines. I don't blame them for not going for broke. The deadline to advocate three percent chance of making the playoffs. And that's not what you do. But if they would have found some creative ways or some even some potentially painful ways to get some starting help earlier they might have been in a spot to make more aggressive deadline moves. That was my that was my only complaint not not about the guys they added but just about how it got there. Hey ben i gotta wonder This weekend a little bitter sweet for me. And maybe for you and for other fans of the saint. louis rams. So you're gonna see. Isaac bruce kit his just do he's going into the hall of fame which is wonderful and he should be in there and i was covering games back in the day. So i was the stringer ben. So we're doing cast here. I don't have to be like really official with my stuff. So i was a stringer back in the day and that was one of my jobs early in my career and i had. Cbs espn upi ap All these different radio stations. I'm the guy running around getting all the sound. i was hostile. So when they had tony banks under center and tony banks looked for one guy every play that they were gonna throw the you. You could have put jerry rice in his prime out there. And he wasn't looking at him. He was looking at isaac bruce every single time and i mean this guy is going over the middle. He's going deep. he's doing everything. He is the ultimate saint..

"One edition of the program could talk a little cardinals baseball with zak silver in just a moment. The major league baseball trade deadline has come and gone and there was a flurry of activity. Including the cardinals. Getting in on the mix making a couple of deals that happened on friday. We have not spoken since then. Cardinals game over five hundred after winning two of three over the weekend and zek silver. Our guys with us talk about it from. Mlb dot com. What's going on man. I keep trying to think benchmarks for where we are in the season. Last time we had the five eighths awards. Today we have the we are officially past the non waiver trade deadline into the month of august. How's it going man. Say last month's matches martin of when nine snap lansner be when your honor parnell in china. I worry season you know. I was thinking about the deadline and the next month and was thinking about What has happened over the last couple of years and what happened with the waiver. Trade deadline baseball. Obviously a couple years ago rid of that and i was thinking like this could have been like a really crazy month. Especially with all of the Financial ramifications of the last year and a half and the way that teams are trying to shed payroll. There could have been some really crazy. Deals potentially made over the next thirty days if if the august deadline and the waiver deadline was still a thing you know. I know have ad that waiver period lie. Maybe seen max further kinda gets point where he wouldn't get traded. United passed on inspired. Y'all Not really gonna be what the justin verlander for this year in. Santa crazy naturally distracted a lot. When nash account on our not we wanna keep them or knocking pretty quickly knowledge through on the way out. I think not having rock and it's not now thinking about how much they're be pretty remarkable. The cardinals obviously add some pitching on friday. Picking up a couple of lefties in hap. And unless you're you mentioned trying to stay healthy. And i wonder zach like as we saw jack. Flaherty throw again on sunday yesterday. Miles michael is continues to move forward. You had Some notes on unto coda hudson and the fact that you know might see him a lot sooner than we thought. How do you think the club balance is trying to compete trying to take advantage of the soft schedule but also realizing that a lot of what they're hoping for relying on perhaps our guys coming back from injury and Taking i guess view of the the big picture and not just the next three or four weeks not doing anything to jeopardize any of those guys. I don't think you'll see them. Push some of their guys hoover nouns. I mean that's not what they made these traits. Was that one johann of you win. Firms and learning but also feeling strongly level. You'll see is in position to succeed not exceed statement. Now when i log ins is next month they do have a lot under five hundred a lot. But i we coming back..

"There because he can say. Look jack larry's on the injured list. Miles michael has pitched one time. I just got back They they didn't have enough depth there. It wasn't like it wasn't like you know they have got some bad breaks. What what's the offenses. Excuse now. Paul back And maybe you should have spent some more time on the rehab said. He wasn't really hitting in memphis before was he was brought back but he's back in. I don't think it's fair to sit there into the offense is waiting on harrison. Baiter that no you hear some of seven or eight whole hitter With your pitcher eating night so this there's really no reason now for the offense to be dragging like this You know and that's that is a concern. You sit there and talk yourself out of edmund. Being laid off. And i guess he likes. I could see carlson there. Maybe sosa if he's if he's healthy after taking that pitch to the hand but then you start to look at the ordering of. Where's it go from there. i think too. I don't know that the answer is on the bencher or or waiting in in memphis. I if they're serious about improving this team and getting this offense might. They're going to have to add somebody and i don't. I don't think they needed defining bad. I think they have their big bats. I think they need to find something. That is a little more at races. The grit level of their offense and ob guy guy who can get on base. And kinda just be that rusty nail type. Adam eaton soccer atta meeting time. Like who's that guy for this team you know. Maybe he's out there charlie. Black pants on base percentages super high He's he had a rotten april but he's turning up baby he looks to get out of colorado. Maybe they tried to deal him. He's got those weird contract with the options. I wonder about a guy like josh harrison with the nationals. Everybody thought he was old washed up. He signed a one year deal for for for for pretty cheap. Gets a million dollar deal. And he's a true rental. I mean he. His on base percentage is great as average high veteran guy. You know he wants to win. I think they're just missing somebody who really takes tough at bats it can get on base and kinda get something going needed last night somebody to break up somebody to get an ugly bad. That turned into a slap hit into the outfield. To get something going. And i don't think they have that guy right now with edmund struggling the way is it is a It's a problem..

"To talk about that White Sox game on Friday night. Triple play. Tip on not I mean on that bunting as Michael from the South Side was bringing up Also Hendricks not coming in the two unbelievable defensive plays. We won by a brave with one by Anderson. To throw guys out at the plate. Yeah, I mean, it was just an unbelievable game, and then it was a playoff game and really wasp watching it was it had it had everything you would expect from a playoff game, and Carlos Rodin and Jordan Montgomery combining for 24 strikeouts and no walks insane and it was absolutely they were. It was a record setting game. Nobody had ever gone to Yankee Stadium and struck out five straight Yankees to start a game since Sandy Koufax is that great 1963 unbelievable and Rodin got 23 swings and misses. And yesterday I thought Dylan sees was doing okay. Yeah, And then he gets The postgame show without again and Chuck are fine yesterday and NBC Sports Chicago They broke it down and they're saying Look, there's a pitch outside. He thought it should have a strike. He didn't get to call another one. He didn't get to call another one. Even closer, didn't get the call. And he throws one over the plate and laboratories hits it for the first R B i of the game yesterday. And it's like He looks very, very stoic on the hill, but you can rattle him and he's only 25. I know. I heard Ethan catching the White Sox weekly yesterday with Conner. McKnight talking about Dylan see sailors and he's only 25. He's got a ways to go. He's still learning, right. He's got to learn how to not be ready to back. It rattled me. You know, we saw those with Giolito, right? Yeah, he eventually learned now Dylan has been making adjustments. We've talked about this from the beginning of the season. You know when he starts falling off the mountain he make in game adjustments kind of fix himself. Hopefully, this is a learning point. And the next start, he's going to be able to handle that attempted rattling and, you know, being a 25 year old pitching as well as he was going into New York. Yesterday for the third. He walks four strikes out six gives up five runs all earned, and they lose Garrett Cole. The sacks couldn't really hit him and they had chances to they bounced into not one, Not two, not 34 double plays. It was for in the first five innings as like and talk about, you know, rally killers, you know, and I know you're mean by bounced in the two of them, but he did have to hitch the night before so No. He's continuing to still hit the ball. So and the Cubs last night I was waiting for them to do something offensively they couldn't get. They couldn't do anything. And the night before the just took advantage of a bad Um, Cardinals bullpen Last night. The Cardinals bullpen was tremendous. Cardinals bullpen comes in Pasta Leone. Not in Florida came right back up. Cabrera, Diego Reyes. They combined for 45 innings. Two hits, no runs in 5678 strikeouts. He couldn't touch anybody. After miles Michael is left when he came out to pitch the fifth and by the way, and we get right to the colors. I'm listening to the game on the radio because I was in my car. And Ron Coomer. She's a pitch from Nicholas in the fourth inning and says, You know, it looks like he bothered his arm a little bit. Let's keep an eye on him because it looked like something happened. And he throws another little hitch or something, he said. It looks like he's slinging the ball instead of throwing it, and then they talked about it. And then I get out of my car. And the next thing I know is the top of the fifth if he went out through it through a couple of warmups and just look to the side inside can't go, but Kumar called it. Which was very cool. And because in the car, I have no idea. I can't see what he's seeing. And but, yeah, it was very, very we've seen we've seen instances this season where pitchers it doesn't look like anything happened. But the pitching coach and called time and then exactly granddad's gun and once earlier this year Yeah, Who is it? I can't rember. Who was it was pitching Rochet. It might have been crow shaped croquet. Yeah, might have been crows shape, but, yeah, it's great when they see that, and that's That's why I love watching baseball so much because there's little things people tell baseball's boring watching intently and you learn stuff, but depends on why you're watching baseball what you're expecting. Right Holy couple weeks ago. I mean, pitchersduel or slug fast and somebody jumped on there and said in the playoffs pitching tool, regular season slugfest. We'll make sense. Some people said. I check out exciting car find said Yes yesterday, the day before, he said. If I'm at the game, I want to slug fest. I want to get home. I want a pitcher's duel. And that's another great paddock, because if you're at the game, you want the excitement. You want the lights going out it off everyone. Vaughn hit his first home run We had on White Sox weekly, he said. I've never run the bases with lights going out it off. So he said, Yeah, that was pretty cool. So he's not in the lineup today. Maybe it comes in late and does something for the White Sox. Let's go on out to the phones at some point, 3123323776 year old town and George Your German friend Zander, What's up? Hey, George. Ready, Zander. Hey, shows, you know, I was talking about Brian. I was thinking that there's no way and how we can hold on to win the free agency. But what does the comes got Creative and You know, like Aaron Rodgers, who owns a piece of the box. Why don't we give him a piece of the Marquis network to really make these guys things place? Longevity, you know, and hold these guys so we don't lose him at the deadline. Okay. You might. Brady owns a piece of you said Aaron Rodgers owns a piece of the ball. Oh, you mean the Milwaukee bucks? Okay, I was thinking Why tell Aaron Rodgers on terrible? Yeah, okay, but, you know, I agree with you that they should keep him. Especially if they.

"Dot com does an amazing job with the minor leagues also major league baseball. So we're going to get into the cardinals win last night. What's happening down in the minor leagues. And he's always were brought to you by blue tail medical group great alternative to surgery. Find out how they're doing it. Blue tail medical group. And they'll keep you in the game right now brian. Good morning how are you good morning. Dan it's nice to see the cardinals. Come back with a win last night after that series in san diego. Isn't it man that was tough to watch that series. Was what exactly. I think we've all talked about that. Baseball needs to get away from. They had twenty six walks in the series the most since nineteen hundred so maybe the the right formula to get back on track is welcome the pittsburgh pirates to town. Yeah there's no doubt about it and let's face. it goes a good team but they were slowed by colin. They missed you know. We're missing a number of their star players and you know it was the first opportunity for the cardinals to get revenge forgetting balanced from the postseason and unfortunately the pitching just couldn't find the confined the strike zone and as much as mike show didn't want the media to continue the narrative. The facts are the facts. And i think a president of baseball ops john was they lack was was much more candid about it Before the game yesterday when he said you know we simply have to throw strikes. Stop the locks absolutely John gant did that last night. Only allowed one walk. That was a john. Gant that we see come out of the bullpen and that might be israel sooner rather than later. We don't know You know. Mike sheltered indicate that they would go to a six man rotation still with a lot of games coming up potentially but in the big picture. I thought john game pitch very well last night. You know. I think it was one of his best stars of the year. And as you mentioned gantt has somehow managed to avoid getting hit with a big innings despite allowing way way too many baserunners and i just always kind of felt like the other shoes. Drop at some point but you know to his credit. What maybe his last gartner rotation for a while Was a very very positive on a win that the cardinals really really needed. And of course what you're referring to is that off. Miles michael is in carlos. Martinez look to be on track to return to the team. Perhaps as soon as this weekend so when they get into this after thursday off they get into this long stretch consecutive games again They could insert both those in the rotation and one would think that john gant might be the one to return to the pen at that time. Correct me if i'm wrong but in terms of a minor league outfielder scott hearst. He is on the injured list. Is.

"Great to visit with you ben. How're things goin'. Happy friday dan and do it well and first of all happy day after birthday man liberated birthday. The other day. I saw everybody giving you the warm wishes i sent you a personalized video shown sweetie. That wasn't a cameo me anything. We appreciate you and happy with epidemic you as a friend and always enjoy our chats on friday. I do too. I appreciate it very much and all the well wishes for those listening on these fridays. Or wherever you get your podcast in in the various things that we offer. I'm getting to the point. Ben where i used to listen to old people talk about. You know. I'm not sure about these birthdays now. I know what they're talking about. I'm not sure you want to celebrate these things as they reminder that you're going the wrong way it's all downhill after twenty one. That's what i was told. And i think i remember you know. Making fun of my sister turned thirty in polish now years ago but Yeah man the number now but But but better better than the alternative to you. Got that right let's let's jump into There's a ton of stuff. I wanna get with you with the cardinals rapid fire. We'll talk about the nc double a. Tournament as well And i guess there's no particular order of importance with these things. But i think they're all very very interesting as it pertains to the cardinals. Let's start on the injury front. And it's john gant trying to make a case to be a starter. We had a game on television This past he looked really good as a starter matched up with max shurer. There's also k. K. who's trying to find his way back in. Mike shell did update the media yesterday. So let's start with those two. Do you think they They stand right now with what's going on in nice spring training all it seems like gant has positioned himself to at least get a start. Maybe two of the regular season two rotations. I turn he seems to be of in line there as the cardinals and try to figure out what exactly they're going to get back at. How quickly for both cape am miles. Michael is now good news on k. K. he's pitching Seems to be a little ahead of schedule after that back. Tightness caused him to have a a scratched appearance. I think they're optimistic. They'll be back sooner rather than later of has not said. It'll be ready for the first turn of the rotation to the season. Sounds like he might be able to. Although i wouldn't be shocked with the cardinals. Maybe you know have him skip it anyway just to really take precaution and play. We're gonna see you've mentioned it in spies to keep pointing out..

"He is down in florida. Good to hear your voice. How are things going. Do well dan. That just got down here so excited to see some baseball in personnel. Be it from a from a distance but certainly better than the no baseball at all and some interesting things going on down here. It's kind of favorite part of spring training. It's the part where some decisions start getting made and some of these. Some of these grapefruit league games are becoming a little more serious for research purposes. We started answered questions. So i know it's fun to be down at the beginning. You know it's it's new and the skies are blue in the grass screen but this time of the years more fun for me. Because i think it's some of the important stuff happens. You saw last night Carlos martinez gave up six runs. What was your impression of carlos. Well i think you have to put it. In the put. In the category of a similar similar carlos martinez starts that we've seen as he struggled to prove that he is without a doubt a starter. You also probably a little bit of it on the angel hernandez once again being behind home plate. He lives in this area so he calls a lot of these games. And there's been some frustration on both sides of that game about the strikes on have angel hernandez wasn't the one who was hitting jose altuve. He wasn't the one wasn't the one walk in everybody so carlos just didn't look didn't look all that dial in he was better. I think own the second inning. None of these guys have looked good in their first trip. Through other than adam wainwright. He looks like he's ready for the season to start now. Kim didn't look sharp player to not look sharp. We have not seen miles michael yet. he's planning on throwing some sort of a a bullpen session this weekend where they hope to get him in a game. I think sometimes next week but not a great. The first statement for the rotation here dan as we try to figure out. Who's going to be interesting to that. Fifth spot clearly. It looks like the cardinals are kind of slating things for carlos Schultz said before that gain that. He's pretty much done everything he needs to do. In order to be leading that that chase but not quite sure he has it locked up in. this performance. Didn't exactly slammed the door shut if that was on the table for them. Are we concerned at all right now. With miles michael is in your opinion. Well i go by the old joe straus rule of of never underplay. An injury You just any time at spring training with the guy. A pitcher is having some sort of army. She's a special. That's the guy who's dealt with something in the past in anything is being delayed or pushed back. And he's not pitching in games. I think it's of significant concern. You know maybe it's early you know if he gets back and gains and looks good. You know maybe maybe this fear subsides a little bit. The cardinals do have depth. Or if for some reason michael wasn't able to go out of the gate maybe could come online a little bit later but yeah i mean. The guy missed the season last year. And this is a similar issue at scrambling. His plans a couple weeks ago..
