Georgia voters head to the polls for special election to fill John Lewis’s seat — temporarily

"The special election to fill the late John Lewis's place in Congress. A slow but consistent number of voters coming out to the CT. Martin Rec Center on Il Killed MLK Drive this morning. The combination of a rainy day in a runoff election where the winner will only serve until January did not stop Mildred and Robert Byrd from coming out to vote to make sure that John Lewis's seat is filled. Congressman Lewis is tiring me. They need someone to feel it, so it was important for us to choose someone. "We don't. We don't quite know her fate. At the end of all of this I mean, but it's. It's not a happy one. Despite her final words of all, be fine mother. I love your point with with the way. Burt presents her back to as a gift to mildred. It is such a contrast to the scene in which mildred gifts vita her car, and it's the same context of go. Look at the window. I've got your present waiting for you outside. And in both cases it is a gift that the person who's receiving it desperately wants, but it is exactly as you put it. Not In their best interests whatsoever. Is just continuing to feed the problem? Here here and I wanted to say one of the little word about the costuming and that and that opening scene Because costuming but I. don't know we never. We don't talk about it and very much, because it's probably not strong on our radar, certainly not strong online, but but the the contrast in what mildred is wearing in that scene to the mink. In the scene that has preceded. If could not be a sharp contrast that that is brilliant from that or just make outfit. To you know you're sweating in the kitchen, baking pies and cakes. And this is what you look like when you do that. And when the Bert leaves and throws all these clothes in the car and I just could not be more lower. Slightly lower middle class. Domestic and I say speaking in nineteen forty five terms bright. That's that's a beautiful point. You Make Max about that contrast, and I think that's that that contrast adds to the dynamic energy of this story, and and then I think the other dynamic contrast of what not the other but one of the other. Is The contrast between. Mildred purposeful dog food. Way about going about what she does to make a success for herself. She doesn't have any money. She needs money and she wants to feed vitas needs. And she doesn't by God she doesn't she? Is Dog good and purposeful and professional? She's a hard working person and yet she feels. She has to hide the fact that she is a waitress. "I remember one when I was speaking in three different locations in Virginia and it was this one woman that was at all three locations and I saw her and she came up to me and she said Hey Muhammadu say hey how you doing. She say you know. I've been to all three of your presentations Virginia. Say Yeah You my little starker She said Ms Baba you right but I just had to hear you say this one statement because I never heard that before. I say well what was that? Suzanne never heard anybody. Say Hey that you don't have to have physical scars. Miss Muhammad. I have been in an abusive relationship for seventeen years and he never hit me. I'm the breadwinner. She stays at home and he terrorizes me and my children. The first time you said that I went home and I looked forward everywhere and I couldn't find it on the Internet where anybody else said that so I had to make sure that I heard what you said so I went to your second session. You said it again but this time I applied what you said when you told us you may not realize you in an abusive relationship so go home and get a sheet of paper. Draw a line down the middle pros and cons right so you write down the pros you write down the cars but when you write them down you don't make excuses like he hit me because ABC. Andy no he hit me and you're only evaluating the relationship and not the individual because we change every day right so she said I went home and I did that and like you said if the pros outweigh the cons. Then we can work on a relationship diplomat. Muhammad the cons outweigh the pros. So that meant I needed to make a decision but I just had to hear you said one more time before I made that decision and when you said it again I knew I had to leave and so I left Ms Muhammad and guess what me and my children we are happy and I would never have left. If I didn't hear you say you don't have to have physical scars. More does hearing something like that do for you. That makes me feel that what I started to do. It's working because it's my mission to shift the thinking. And I shifted her thinking so that she can take a comprehensive look at her relationship and then strategize on how to effectively Lee. And that's what she did. I want you to dig in a little bit more on that sheet of paper concept and what you're writing. So can you talk about that? Bit of guidance again. What you tell people to go home and do again. You may not know that you are in an abusive relationship so get a sheet of paper. Draw a line down the middle pros on one side cons on the other pros and cons of the relationship of their relationship. Only not of the person okay because we all have flaws. We all come with bags. We just choose the person. Who's willing to deal with the stuff? That's in my bag right. So you got the pros and cons on the paper. The next thing you need to do is separate your emotions from the actual facts dislike judge. Judy she says what all I want artifacts. I don't want no emotions you WANNA be emotional. Go Talk to Dr Phil so we only want the facts because the facts will help you to see who you dealing with a pro could be. He put gas in the car because the tank was empty. No he put gas in. The car doesn't matter the reason. There's no exception no condition. He put gas in the car. A CON would be. He disconnected my phone because he didn't want me on. The House won't no no no. He disconnected the phone. Simple as that. So once you come to the end of that if the pros outweigh the contents. The relationship is worth analyzing and saving and you have to create a new normal. You can't go back to what it was. You have to fresh if the cons outweigh the pros. You really have a decision to make. Are you gonNA stay in a relationship? A lot of people. Don't leave because they got a lot to lose score. I helped to build that house. I put money in that account to. I'm not having another person to come in here and enjoy the fruits of my labor. I mean all of that stuff goes on. So that's a decision you have to make and the decision is completely yours. You don't need outside people telling you what to do. Nobody's living your life for you but you but make sure it's a decision that you can live with If you suspect you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence. Please call the national domestic violence hotline at one. Eight hundred seventy nine seven two.

"It's John. He had people watching the house and he says how you doing. Hi Sit on good said. How's mom I say she's fine. I say why won't you let the Children Call me? He said we don't always get what we want do we. So there's a dialogue that goes on between the victim and the abuser. In only those two people know what that mean he had already said you have become my enemy and as my enemy. I will kill you so I had two choices. I could go back to him and die or I could hang up the phone and never see my children again and hung up the phone. I let out a scream. The nurses Cain my mother. They're called the hospital shortly thereafter and told them that John just called her and said he was on his way to the hospital to kill her daughter so they moved me from one room to another posted. A guard outside my door took my name off of the register and stated that anybody who was coming up to see me needed to send up there ide- to identify rather or not it was John. A social worker came and said you can't go back home. I said Whoa my mom is at home. Said we'll take care of your mom but we have to disconnect from everybody that you know because we have to put you in hiding so they John will not find and kill you so they wait until it got dark. Took me out of the back door of the hospital? They told me I needed to slouch down in the car so no one could see that. I was in the car but I watch the rooftops and hours watching the OFA windows. Because I knew it was gonna be a head shot just as sure as I'm sitting here talking to you. I knew it was GONNA be a headshot go into the shelter and the staff person. Say Mill you're in luck you get your own room like I want to be in a shelter so go upstairs and I'm sitting on a bit and think. How did I get here? Married with twelve years. Three children up business. I'm a business woman taking care of my mom and I'm in a shelter when a victim is still emotionally attached to her abuser. She or he. They are more concerned with what the abuser thinks. Instead of what they need to do to get away because even in the shelter I was watching a commercial aboud a family and the husband and that's when it clicked joined in Lami that's when it clicked that's crazy and that's when I had to swallow that Pill Heaton me after all of that. That was the moment the shelter in the shelter watching TV land. Allow me the light came on so to speak. Was there anything in the commercial that triggered that Jesse Samolis setting and it just click this but once I swallow. The appeal was on like popcorn..

"Pilot. I know it won't be easy. Let won't be easy talking about some of the Sta. The easy yeah. It may not be easy for us here for you. Is it because you processed am done? What does that mean you're done? It means I do not have an emotional charge to this story. You may have one other people may have one, but I don't. How long do you expect me to hold onto that kind of pain? And it's been two thousand two in two, thousand, nineteen, supposedly crying and I still supposed to feel some Typo F-. Emotion towards him. Some people think I'm still supposed to love him. Forgive him. No I'm not supposed to do that. That's your interpretation of what I'm supposed to do. And I have my interpretation of what I will do. I get to choose that so the idea that I would think that this might be painful as projection exactly some assumption you're basing your assumption on other people's are your own perspective of how you feel I should be. With this story. That's not my reality that yours. So, we're a minute in and she's already drop Mike. She so. True. Well Thank you for that. Probably for that. I'm Tony Harris. On this special episode of Monster DC sniper I'm proud to present our interview with Miller Muhammad. Mildred is a domestic violence awareness, advocate and the ex wife of John Muhammad. John Kidnapped. Her children threatened her life and many believed the DC sniper attacks were part of a plan to disguise her eventual murder. This interview covers topics. We couldn't fit into the series. If you haven't listened to the whole season yet. It might be a good idea to finish the show I. All right back to the interview. So, could I have you a state? Your name and your professional speakers title, I am Mildred Muhammad. I'm an award-winning global keynote speaker. May Certified Consultant with the Office on victims of crime. Must Certified personal and professional development coach. And my former husband was John Allen Muhammad Whom you all know to be. The DC sniper. I was laying on a sofa and I was having this dream about women calling me asking me for help, and they were just all around me, and I fell off the sofa. And I went to my children I say. I go to help other women. And the only way I can do that is to share my story and yours Abacha dead. And Anita permission to do that. and. They say mom. You do what you need to do. Just tell the truth. Just tell the truth, and so that's when I went to the library I got a book on how to become a professional speaker decided to have the lotus flower as my logo. Because it was a flower, they came out of the darkness into the light. I looked up domestic violence conferences on Google I found to contacted them, and I was able to land those two engagements. and been speaking ever since. When did you realize for yourself that you were in an abusive relationship? I was watching TV in. State and there was a PSA. I understand that coming out of a domestic violence relationship is not. A woman speaking, and she told all of the signs associated with domestic violence, and as she's going through arms. Okay that's one. Okay, that's to. County. Abusive relationship. And I called the number. One Eight, hundred, seven, nine, nine safe. It's time for everyone to allow for their voices to be heard. And they talked to me. I'm in the room. Might children are in the Living Room John is at work and they say well. We like you to come in. Say NOPE, not coming in. This it will, we really need to get you help. NOPE! I just wanted to call to make sure that. I'm seeing what I'm seeing and I need to come to terms with that and then I'll call you back. And never called him back. But at that point, that's when I knew. Because I just thought it was a part of a relationship. You know that's how relationships are. Didn't grow up in an abusive home so I didn't know that I was in an abusive relationship until I saw that commercial, and they don't even happy essays anymore. They don't not even in a month of October which is domestic violence. Awareness MMA appears as on TV so. That's when I knew. Most people don't really know that they're in abusive relationships. Eighty percent of victims do not have physical scars to prove that they are victims. Although twenty percent do I choose to concentrate on the eighty percent, the verbal, the psychological, the spiritual, the stocking, and it is my mission to shift the thinking of society to understand that you do not have to have physical scars to be a victim or a survivor of domestic violence, and because this is a worldwide epidemic. The person that you're sitting next to could be a victim or a survivor. It is how you have responded to this person. As to whether or not, they will confide in you. And ask you for help. Before I left John. He came over and said we need to talk. My brother was there so I felt I was safe. We go to garage. So he says. You are not going to raise my children by yourself. You have become my enemy and as my enemy, I will kill you. He charges at me. I ran around him into the house where my brothers. And he leaves an tell my brother Sho's GonNa. Kill me. He's GonNa. Kill me! He said Girl John Going to kill you. Never went to my brother game for help. Because he didn't believe me. An victim does not have time. To clarify to the people who she's going to for help. How dangerous the situation is! He was hiding from everybody else, but I was the one that got to see it all. So when I go to people say you know. John is treated me as such and such where he's doing this to me. Well, that's not John I know. COURSES NOT Until victims of, domestic violence. Be. Careful who you talk to touch test touch tests, Tony. Johnson is not treat me right I mean he is humiliated me and making me feel that I shouldn't even be here. And depending on his response is how I will either continue to talk to him or never speak to him again because he is GonNa. Put My life in jeopardy. He's GonNa. Go back and tell them. Hey, man, you know. Mildew came in am so no. Desta touch tests. When he took the children..

Yeah and I hope so that we can make as a as people we can. We can follow our. You know what heart is. If you say something like this will always will be. People say that you have easy toll because you have a house or I'm a single woman I have to work. You can't generalize of course, but in my experience we we create our. We create our life and you can. Stop Making. Excuses for other people filling things in, but don't do that. You know your, this is your truth. And you need to create it from your perspective and your dynamic, and what's important and what what I've understood is. What mildred has been doing is constantly being seeking. To connect with with the truth to connect with their gifts and I think if you just always stay close to those. Yeah, they'll be things that you learn along the way, but I mean right now. This is where your ads and your intentions are good. And Yeah. Know further. What else can we do human beings? She's been unemployed for five days. Now you know five days what it's like you know like I think we do that a lot. I think that WE PROJECT OUR INSECURITIES. And our stresses on other people because it makes more sense for other people to be putting obligations on us than than it being ourselves but I think it's like a learned thing. Yeah I mean is there any actual evidence in front of you? That millions disappointed or something like are they going. Hello why are you answering? Hello and if they are. That's kind of that's pretty strange. That's the worse that would be really really really poor behavior and there is any. Is there any like hard circumstantial evidence rate millions of sad or you just assuming oh man. I didn't reply to Milly? Milly I'm Su- feels open. Millions probably like. Oh but I just don't want him so stressed not all going in your head and that's the other thing is like if it's all in your head like maybe this'll be easy to solve. Maybe it'll be like Oh. I don't and I like maybe it's just that I'm not that good at typing with my thumbs but I don't think I've sent any really long tax. I'm actually GonNa look at my phone. Let's do experiment. Let's pick the longest tech longest texts that we've set. This is going to be embarrassing. Okay Okay Okay. I just don't send any long text. I set last night at ten yesterday. Nine thirty nine. Pm Wow. I went to bed early. Matvey just started on my face. She's upside down toward me and she farted in my face. So there's that was John using a living I love it. I just don't have any like I really just don't Texas. I thought this was going to be a ton of fun and that I would be like. Oh I've uncovered this hilarious thing that I've texted thing else in here. Nothing like I'm doing. Nothing was talking about project runway. Talking about love is blind. Talking about love is quiet. And I'm looking through my text messages with Andy. Just they tend to be longest ones. And there's nothing longer than two sentences. I'm super fucking awake for no fucking reason that I don't have to fucking be anywhere till two fucking pm tomorrow. So I made legit stay fucking awake until you're done and now again the speakerphone. Just a yellow about this show with you and Stephanie. I'm just putting that out there. Love is blind is terrible. That's excellent the longest I received was from burning twenty twenty. Now that guy long man. What a bugaboo. He'd you know even picked texting him back. I know well I did sign up. You're giving him a soft no though and he should understand I'm giving him a A soft yes. Actually I hit on subscribe and then at the rally and I was like look. I'm back Oklahoma back. You Know Jen I. I really appreciate that. You're recognizing your own behavior in this situation and you're not which is being to use Bernie tease for just kidding. I'm giving him a fuck. Totem money. What I'm doing so like I finally have like really like logged off. Good job I need to do that. yeah I actually. It's a need at this point. It's not like a Sosa quitter it's like. Oh every person is annoying. Yeah everyone every ever get better. I don't think so as we near November or July like It doesn't matter if you support Warren or Bernie. You're going to me. It does matter now if you support Warren because she has dropped out of the race and that's true so continue to back. Warren. I'm a little. I'm a little confused. Yeah I think you can probably Shift focus will bit okay. So I'm coming at this as a as a sport. Warren and I was always like going to vote on the day. Whoever makes the most sense and obviously in voting Bernie now of course I am right but like I've never been so lambasted by my own side and politics my life? Oh Yeah I mean the Progressive Left. Right now is it's it's a scary place to be and I'm not saying like Bernie Bros. or Warren stands. I'm not I'm saying everybody like it's like not a happy place to be right now. I get it because everything feels precarious like all also all around us. The Krona virus is exposing some very serious flaws. That were always there that are now like creating huge gaps like. It's a weird scary time and people are biting at each other. Yeah Gen that's exactly what it's like. They're fucking biting at each other like everyone's uncomfortable and angry and but for me it feels like twitter is just the place where people vent those fears and those angers which is a very very much in the right but those fears and angers. Don't help me. What helps me is like real information from like news sources and so. I'm spending an almost no time on twitter and I'm but I'm reading actual sources more. I think that's a really smart move. In what what also helps me is again getting off twitter and talking to people. Yeah like I think All the like on twitter feels like every tweet is given the same amount of like attention on your feet whereas like someone will be screaming because About something else and someone else will be talking about. Love is blind and then someone will be screaming again and That like up and down is not good for my blood pressure. Yeah so that I talked to my friends in real life about. This is what happened at the Bern Railway and this is how I feel about Warren and this is how I like them both. And it's like Oh this is no one talks this way in real life because you're not rewarded with extra numbers on the bottom. Your tweet Yeah. You're not getting the serotonin charge of like some faith. I mean the truth is volatile tweets go farther harsher tweets go farther because they resonate more with you and like an eye and I've sent my fair share of angry and scared tweets of course but I just don't feel that it's worthwhile anymore or helping or helping anyone. Yeah I agree. I mean I'm looking for new sources and there's actually some people I I use twitter feed. I checked but don't follow. Yeah I don't want that in my life and I don't even want to follow you but I am curious what you think is what's happening. I think like I support it. I support the angry tweets to like obviously posting bite in is not angry is practical and something we should all do. Jen Syros Lynn completely noncontroversial. Which is my long expensive Skincare routine oh I could use some tips do the ten step thing so I don't what I've been trying lately is going to the doctor and doing exactly what the doctor tells me to do. Do you take pills. Yes kind of a personal question. Do you take skin-care pills. I do. Now I'm on a I'm on a rounded doxycycline okay And I've got a a dappling which is A retina derivative sort of thing. And I've got Clinton Mizen Benzel Peroxide In the morning. It's a lot and Enjoy let me tell you something I feel like I'm fifteen roy happen. I turned you know people tell you like. Oh things go downhill in your thirties. That's not true. Is You have the same problems as ever but then there are other different products is certainly do. Yeah I've I've complained about this on the show before I've been getting gray hair since it was like twenty two. Everybody has their thing. I feel like you know and like obviously we're both extremely hot and neither of these things matter but there's something that we have to deal with this. It's more about me. I actually really liked gray hair and other people so it's the way you always fucking especially if I see a woman. I think it's pretty cool that you just own your grace however I will not you don't and you don't have to whatever makes you feel most comfortable But as I was saying is that I never follow the instructions exactly of your medicine ever. I've never in my life and I never really thought about it until recently that I'll be like Oh. This isn't quite working. Let me add several other things into the mix and maybe it'll work now And so now little chemist. But I'm trying not to. I'm trying not to have like a chemistry experiment on my face. I'm just like okay. This has put it on once a day. This has put it on Pea size amount. That's what I'm doing things are happening. Yeah I do I would say I'm extra careful was stuff on my skin. I never have the patience enough to be like do a do a test to make sure this works. Unless it's on your skin and then I'll be like okay. I actually don't Wanna I don't WanNa get allred so I will test this on my wrists. I'm too impatient. Good for you but no. It's bad 'cause like that's the thing is I think that part of my skin care journey is So Okay Monty don that gardening or the gardener. Yes so there's this one couple that came on and big dream small spaces so monty don is a Britain's greatest gardening daddy and he went to the home of these two young artists and the young artists were like. We wanted to do this this this and this and mind on said well. This is how you can do this correctly. And you have to make a couple of adjustments but this is how you do it and they're like no they're like. I understand that we have free expert advice from somebody who has been in this business for one hundred years. Don't give a shit doing exactly what I want. And everything they had died so so I'm trying to not be them. Yeah yeah I understand. You know it's just like I trying to accept that My doctor saying six to eight weeks. We'll check in. Don't fuck around before then and I'm like yes I will skew the results right. Yes but that's not who I am inside and so every day I'm challenging my very being with clear view this is. You're learning a lot from this experiment. I want to ask you more about this garden. Show real quick about what did they do? What did the couple do incorrectly to not? Listen to the Gardner. Did they just like put plants that they knew that were told would die and they did anyway. Yes and so so. It's interesting to me. How every now and again on the show. They'll have somebody who clearly didn't even Google anything which is very odd because like. How did you end up on the show? You know how to use Google and I also think that part of it is they want some very inexperienced people to show how they grow in which is usually what happens is that people are like. Yeah I'm in this for a reason. I'm GonNA follow the advice. And I'm I'M GONNA ask questions. They they had no useful questions for Monte basis. Basically what they wanted whether like So the episode's premise is that their neighborhood in which the two young artists live has a yearly like open house so everybody puts their art outside to walk through it and this couple decided they wanted to do a..

"A new one. Oh my God I got one for you. And it's I haven't managed to watch. Love is blind. I'm very sorry of all of the unpleasant surprises that I've had to live through in the past four years. I don't feel like this really ranks. Don't worry honestly Jen. I think that my brain rotted away based on how much love is blind. I've been watching so my wonderful partner I've been having dreams where we're like dramas happening like he's cheating on me but also like I know that per saying I mean they're my best friend. Never met this person. Longest blind is infected. You're bray definitely is infected my brain so I don't wish this absolute intellectual cancer on Eugen only when you feel like you can best fight it. I have to watch it because it is everywhere now. Eight every person I know is watched. I. I had one friend who was like. I'm not watching that. And then we I don't really. I don't generally pressure my friends to do things but I was like get down here in the dirt with US GONE. Roll around roll around in the muck with us. Why jump into the garbage heap and then sure enough about four days later we got a tech so it was like so just cut. Total mess can't believe her drunken actress but yeah so I thought welcome so okay Jen here the things that we could talk about okay or that. I could talk about my life. Okay so my friend. Kathleen came over to my apartment. And you as you know I don't allow people to my homeboy. Yes because it is mostly for the suddenly obvious that the things that I do are weird. Now that there's an audience got it so and you work from home fulltime. I do work from home. So you've internalized these weird things. Yes and I also don't really like leaving my home. Everything I own is there. My cats are there. The Sun is shining at a comfortable distance. So I like being in my apartment but there are certain things that like. You know the the hit me when they were they happen. That they're weird such as when Kathleen came over. I realized that every time my cat's either of cats leaves my presence. I shall goodbye. I love you either cat one. That's adorable but like I should train that out of myself. I feel like it's hard disagree because I was the other weird thing that it did and I was like. Oh I usually go. Maybe where you go in. What do you want to do? She's usually right by my side. Some like what's on your agenda you got. You're going to get some water. Jen I saw a updated roscoe puppy pictures on your. Yeah yes so. It's cute that you remember his name. Roscoe is the name of the neighbor dog. He's he's so cute and most people have just been like when they've said high today. Like Hey cute neighbor. Dog like they don't they. They know enough to know that. That's not my dog but they know enough that I I keep really close tabs on my neighbor's dog. He's near dog communities near greater extended. Dog Area the winning instagram. This dog you would think. I was having with his owners. We're not really friends. You really know. I frequently forget their names game. I know what I remember the name of their dog. Yeah I really love that. He's a good boy. Good Puppy Jen. So as you know I'm still getting married. You are right because I got married. I got legal married and now. I'm planning the party marriage in Canada in June and I decided that as we also talk about like I'm having a non binary journey and sometimes I can feel like I'm not at home in like women spaces and in it comes up a lot in wedding planning so we went to the actually got address. We went shopping and in France which was wonderful and I prefaced it with okay guys so I just want to be public facing woman. I don't WanNa talk about it in front of other people. Don't want to get into it but when we're alone. I want you to be like Damn Sir. Your tits. Look Amazing. That's one beautiful fellow like chap you are really rocketed and with those legs sort of thing and so like I. Basically what I'm saying is I'm trying to find ways to make myself feel more comfortable in these spaces and it's been actually pretty effective. I'm one of the things I WANNA do is that I'm not going to have a Bachelorette party but I am going to have a bitter party because not everybody coming is a woman but they are all fish. Oh yeah body that right and so it's going to be Like a a hard four hours and then people need to get out all. That's amazing and we're going to watch birds of prey and just to like bitch things and and I think that that's what's going to happen tonight. So let's do that and hang out with my cats Yeah Gen What else do we want to talk about before we get into the question that I feel is a once again. Oddly Straightforward Ya. Yeah we got a question I want to get into it. Actually because we got a question about Having a friend who texts you very long messages. Yes and perfectly stated the message to us was also very concise. Yes so I just think that's interesting. This person is like a journalist. Cad totally they don't mince words. Who's reading time? I think it's me. Yeah I think I'll do that. Look up to this reality do it up on Jenin. Trinh T L DR. My friend is along texter. It's a lot. Should I say something? Here's the longer version my friend. Let's call her. Mildred who I mostly talk through through. Texts tends to send novels and play by plays of everything she's doing. It's a lot and sometimes I just don't respond because it's a lot lot to read to process to decide how respond I've other things I do in life and reading and responding to mildred. Tux could become a fulltime job. I've thought about telling her but I don't want to hurt her feelings and I feel guilty for feeling like she's a lot. I've had someone tell me I'm a lot and it really hurt. It doesn't really harm me to just keep my answer short. And she's never said anything about the length of my responses. Should I just keep the status quo or should I tardy give me the cliffs notes version instead of the full story? She her so the good news. Is that the problem appears to be not in anyone's brain with the asker like million not mad about not getting long responses back or not getting any responses back. Yeah the conflict it and I'm not saying. Ask Her. You're crazy. How dare you know? This is stressful. I think that the stress comes in that you feel obligated to read these in full you feel obligated to respond to them but millie is not actually obligating. You do either of those things that is so true trend when when we read this together and you said that blew my mind wide open. I was like Oh yeah it's like you don't realize that until you're outside the situation it's like you made up a fake milly that lives inside of your brain. Who's very very angry that you aren't reading her tax. And how dare you not write a book report on these? You are not going to get a star on your badge for your personal pan. Pizza Pizza Hut. Oh Man I loved those right first question is what do you want to happen next? Do you want the long text to stop? Do you want them to keep happening? Because they make me feel good but you want to not feel obligated to reply. Do you want the cliff notes? Version like 'cause you got some options here right right. I Agree Jen and I don't think that any of the options is telling me that there too much yet. No that's not on the table Because because even if you do say can you give me the cliff notes version? That was a lot for me to process. You'RE NOT SAYING. Hey you're a lot right. You're not doing that. You're not even going to imply that I also don't think is a lot simply because it seems that her a lot nece is confined to these text messages that she sending. You didn't say milly storms into my apartment three times a week and demands to clean my bathroom. I don't know like she's she's not inserting herself in your life. She just got different techs ticket. Yeah Yeah and just kind of a side note but you said you're feeling guilty for feeling like the way you are and I just want to say you don't have to feel guilty for having preferences you are allowed to have inclinations and judgments even about your friends and I think we want you to be cautious kind here when you if you do end up explaining this to mildred. Because you don't want to hurt her but trying to punish yourself or simply having an opinion absolutely yeah by the way this would stress me to like. I have friends who We do exchange long stories in long text messages. But there's usually a precursor a preamble. Like Hey can events about this or the weirdest thing just have been. Can I tell you what happened? Like there's usually like a little note just to lead you in so you know you know what you're getting into. I just WANNA say once again that. Millie doesn't care that you're not reciprocating. The texts in her mind. She's like I'm so happy that somebody will just received these things you know like it's probably meaningful to her that she's able to get this out of her system. There are many ways that this could look in the future there are many conversations you can have salutes explore some of those conversations. First one is expressing to millie that specifically the tax messages stress. You out and why so? I get stressed out. WanNa get long texts. Because I'm worried that there's bad news hit in it because our I'm I'm worried that you're mad that I'm not responding or something like that or how. It's pretty well understood that you don't just call someone out of the blue that you don't really talk to on the phone because you're going to give them some panic. This is your version of that. I really wonder stand that. So you can say like. I have a hard time following long paragraphs on my phone or I'm having trouble parsing this. Can you give me the short version? I would like to do more research on this but one of my thoughts was I but this could be an accessibility issue too so I guess it. It all depends. I don't know that we want to immediately say. Can you give me the cliff notes version? 'cause we actually don't know if that's what the asker wants. Yeah totally so. Was there suggestion but do you? Do you want that right? I'd say I saying to me that the this sucks and then saying like e in deciding is will it be helpful for you to say okay? So maybe we'll specify these Texas non urgent and Milliken just keep doing what she's doing sort of thing and then that will make me feel better or are you going to say in the future. Give me the version. Yeah totally those are both options. I like preface with non urgent totally. Because then you. She can talk as long as she fucking wants. And then you can wait five days before you read it. Yeah Yeah you can read it when you're not sober and you feel like musing over what your friends are up to. Also if it specifically the text messages that are that are rough on you and and you don't feel like millions too much. Ask Her to take mental notes. And just give you the lowdown in person so I if you're making clear that it's not that you don't love hearing from her. It's a specific medium of the very long tax message. Exactly you know what wasn't in this question to a string. They didn't say it's the content of the messages. Yeah they said a novel or play by play of everything million doing so. It sounds like it's innocuous stuff 'cause you know we've gotten a lot of questions over the years that are like my friend Vince to me. All the time or this old male friend won't stop sending me emotional facebook messages. That's like you're being asked to do way more of your fair share of the work..

"Hello from Wonder Media Network. I'm Jenny Kaplan and this encyclopedia will Manica in case. You're just tuning in. Here's the deal every weekday. We're telling the story of a woman who you may not know about the definitely should each month is themed in this month. Were talking about Stamina's. Women did incredible things in the fields of science technology engineering and mathematics. Today's stem was a prolific inventor created the first sanitary Napkin pioneering product for women's health. Let's talk about Mary Kenner. Mary was born in Monroe North Carolina a small town near Charlotte in one thousand nine hundred twelve father Sydney Nathaniel Davidson and is an incredibly inventive man who encouraged those same traits in Mary and her younger sister mildred. Sydney was an inventor himself and patented a pants pants presser in nineteen fourteen. Mary's maternal grandfather was also well known inventor his most important contributions attract color light signal for trains Though Mary received a good education she didn't have any formal scientific training instead with she and her sister were constantly encouraged courage to come up with creative solutions for problems. They saw in everyday life. Mary moved to Washington. DC got married and started her own Floral Laurel business that she ran throughout her life in her free time she kept inventing in Nineteen fifty-six. Mary put together a formal formal patent application for the first sanitary belt. She hit apparently invented while still in her teens. This was a major step forward forward in giving women a better way to handle their periods while tampons were available at the time they were considered. Indecent and pads wouldn't become available until nineteen sixty. Most women were still using cloth or rags and we're limited in their ability to leave the house while menstruating Mary. Sanitary sanitary belt was a major improvement. It was made of Elastic straps that held the patent place once the belt was secured by safety pins women could easily wear it under their clothing without feeling limited giving them back a significant amount of freedom a company interested in manufacturing this new invention had contacted Mary about purchasing it but as soon as a representative met her in person and realized that she was African American. The interests suddenly disappeared it took. Mary decades to file the patent on her own in the interim. Mary kept inventing things to help. In her everyday Friday life in nineteen eighty two she patented a toilet roll holder that easily provides the loose end of the role and in Nineteen eighty-seven patented an ingenious shower wall and bathtub mounted back scratcher. Mary also invented special attachment for a walker that included a hard surface office TRAE and a soft pocket for carrying items. Mary sister mildred with whom she remained. Very close throughout her life was also an inventor. Milton was a professional singer who eventually had to stop working when she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis mostly confined to her home in Washington. DC Z. Mildred invented a board game meant to teach family relationships and help children understand their place the extended family she called it family family traditions and received a patent for the game in one thousand nine hundred eighty neither military nor mary ever made much money from their inventions but but that didn't stop their desire to make the world around them a better and more convenient place before she passed away in two thousand six. Mary Kenner filed total of five patents. She's remembered not only for creative problem solving and entrepreneurial spirit but for stalwartly addressing a major women's health issue with intelligence and compassion even if abject racism meant. She never got to see her product on shelves as always we're taking a break for the weekend tune in on Monday for the story of another incredible stem inist special. Thanks to my favorite sister this your co-creator Lizzy Caplan talk to you on Monday.

We're telling the stories of women from throughout history history who you may not know about but definitely should each month has a theme and this month.
