This is a Bloomberg money minute, the gender pay gap in women's sports is narrowing. Some of the debate and closing the wage gap or the pay gap in sports between men's and women's is to increase the eyeballs on women's works, increasing distribution, which has a chance to increase viewership, which increases the revenue. And so women's sports could catch up. That's Blake Lawrence cofounder and CEO of open doors, the nation's largest technology provider in the athlete endorsement industry. He says one key factor helping close that gap is the success female athletes have over men with Instagram and other social media sites, building their brands, endorsing products, monetizing, especially good at it, members of the U.S. women's national soccer team. And women's college basketball players who are competing right now in the NCAA tournament. And that means big changes in the future. I think the next two decades will see the pay gap close a little bit because women are putting their forts into the spotlight on their own. Tom busby, Bloomberg radio. This is masters in business with Barry red holes on Bloomberg radio. I'm Barry results, you're listening to masters and business on Bloomberg radio, my extra special guest this week is Dominic mill, she is the author of damsel in distressed, the first hedge fund memoir written by a woman, she was a partner in a senior portfolio manager at canyon capital, where she worked for over 20 years. They run about $25 billion. She has been named one of the 50 leading women in hedge funds by hedge fund journal and Ernst and young, she played key roles in complicated bankruptcies, serving as the lead of the creditors community for Puerto Rico and as a restructuring committee member for U.S. airlines post September 11th, she is a director and audit committee chair for the PG&E bankruptcy, Dominic mill, welcome to Bloomberg. Thank you for having me, Barry. My pleasure. First of all, before we get started, I very much enjoyed the book. You have a very wicked sense of humor, which comes through in the pages, starting with the title, damsel in distress, what made you decide to write a memoir about your decades in the hedge fund industry? Well, it started with an article that I wrote as a hobby about my experience as a woman at Lehman Brothers. And it was picked up by Business Insider and I realized a couple things. One was that I really enjoy writing. And to was that I had never really taken time to think about the lack of women in the business and that there really wasn't a voice to tell the story of female investors. And so that's when I thought there might be a hole in the market. Identifying an inefficiency, so to speak. So to speak, except that there's really no money in writing a book. Well, it's best described as a branding exercise, and a way to sort of get things off your chest. But let's roll back a little bit. You get an MBA at Stanford. How do you end up in finance? Was that what you planned to go? Because a lot of the Stanford MBA graduates tend to find their way into technology, not finance. Right. Well, by the time I got to Stanford, I pretty much knew I wanted to be in finance, but where I started was at Lehman Brothers in New York before Stanford, and that was completely, that was serendipity, really. I wanted a job that would take me away from Paris. I wanted to see the world and whether it was investment banking or basket weaving really had absolutely no bearing on my decision. So I ended up as an investment banker, which like every analyst I hated after a few years. And so the MBA was sort of a way out of their job, branching into hopefully what I thought were better, better pastures, but still in finance. What would you do with Lehman Brothers that you grew to hate? Where you just a spreadsheet jockey? Of course I was and I was it was particularly ruthless because I was in a group called fig financial. Financially institutions group at the time they were still a lot of savings and loan institution, the thrift, lots of mergers. So what I did basically was model the mergers of any combination you could think of. I mean, I remember it got so bad that there was a spreadsheet with all the different institutions vertically and horizontally and I had to model them in each. Sounds tedious. Queer. And I thought, what happened? What happens to the diagonal? Do they merge with themselves? You want me to model that too, but that was kind of the. Almost mindless brute force job that I was doing. So you do win a couple of accolades at Stanford when you're getting your MBA. What brought you to the attention of canyon partners? How did you find your way there? Well, first, I sort of zoomed in on the fact that I wanted to work for a hedge fund that I wanted to go to the buy side. That was first. And that was sort of Really. brought to me through a couple of classes that were incredibly illuminating. One taught by Bill Sharpe and one by Darryl

There was a study that in 2022, that number surpassed 50% for the first time. So says the commission paid by sellers to Amazon is about 15% roughly in line with eBay and others. However, Amazon also charges fees for a number of services. Things like storing stuff in its warehouses, paying employees to pack the items, paying people to deliver the items as well as advertising on the site. While the cost of things like warehousing are a necessary part of doing business, merchants have seen the cost of advertising on Amazon skyrocket. More and more space on Amazon site is sold to the highest bidder. You have to pay Amazon to get visibility or else you're just buried in search results. So nobody's going to find you. Retirement accounts took a beating last year, the average 401k accounted Fidelity Investments lost about a 5th of its value in 2022, tumbling from nearly $131,000 to around 104,000. Average account balances at Vanguard were down 20% and losses on some of the biggest actively managed equity funds in 401k plans were far greater. Scott toma Edward Jones says this kind of drop isn't that unusual. On average, about once every four years or so, we see a decline in the market of about 20%. So I think the first point is just to take a step back and put it in perspective. The losses this time around come as Americans are struggling to save amid high inflation. That might make investors think of waiting until the market turns around, but that could be a mistake. The market is going to be looking ahead to the recovery. "Of offensive thing, like another thing that is an issue for me with Colbert and we talked about this. You remember during the season we had that moment where you were like, do you think would you take Devin Booker and Chris wall over Mitchell and Gobert? And I said yes. To me, there's still something about, I need my second best player or one of my two best players, I need them to be able to do something with the ball in their hands, like down the stretch of a playoff game. And you know, when I wrote about ayton, look at what ayton did in game three of that pelican series. I mean, he was good again. In game four, it was really Chris Paul, who struggled. Like, I think what makes 8 in a max player on a championship team is the fact that he can he has those small flourishes he can add to his game. I don't think in a vacuum, he's a better player than Gobert. I think if you're trying to win a title, you need a center, I think almost more like 8 and then you need to go bear. I think that ayton's wonderful, absolutely. It's also hard to have this conversation because the jazz are like perception of who Gobert can be is just so warped by how bad the jazz is for it or defense is. It's just hard to have the conversation. No, yeah, so if and I know Jay Crowder played once upon a time in Utah. I understand that. But if you had Jay Crowder, Mikhail bridges, cam Johnson, big wing, Tory Craig, would be like a jazz yeah. So I was talking to someone at the game the other night. We were watching on TV. It was like, if the jazz head Dorian Finney Smith, and this is part of their organization's problem, their inability to find a diamond in the rough like that. Yeah. I mean, to that credit, I made the Conley trade when I thought they should have looked for a point guard, and there was once upon a time Mike Conley was one of the best defenders in the NBA..

"It's a hell of a team. You're playing bam at center. That's a beauty. I really enjoy that. It's fun. I picked second. I went draymond green, Rudy Gobert. Marcus smart. Jonathan Tatum. And Dijon Murray. We'll post these in more of people vote on them. And we will let the human beings out there decide who's all defense team. They like better. In terms of if you were building an all defense team in the NBA this year, based not necessarily off of us trying to compete against one another. Right. But rather just building it all defense team for like awarding players for their accomplishments this year's sake. How different would these teams look in comparison? I don't think they'd look too different to be honest with you. I think draymond probably doesn't make it because of the games played, but most of the guys that we named are at least in the conversation for all NBA defensive teams. I think. I mean, I mean, draymond, I think is the only guy that won't make it. Is that right? It'd be interesting. So what do you think they do at the center position? 'cause I would imagine bam ends up at the forward spot. So who do you think will be the second center? Well, I mean, I think because it has like a real case, I think, by the way. I don't know, man. I think this year for embiid has been kind of a down year. And I wonder if bam isn't, is it the second team center with Rudy as the first team? Could be. And a lot of that's going to be, you know, if you look at the heavier lift, I mean, Rudy definitely had the heavier lift. And then also Rudy, I think he played the how many more minutes did he play than bam? Oh God, and that's a pause that the show for that. But anyway, it had the Rudy first team center, maybe bam, second team center, although you can switch them. I don't care. I mean, I'm not going to split hairs over that. Jaron is first team almost certainly. I think Marcus smart, Mikhail bridges, and maybe drew holiday or the would be my first team that you holiday, Marcus smart Mikhail bridges. At this point, right? I mean, all NBA defense to me, you know, they're like a handful of guys to choose from at each position. You know, I think you got like four guys pretty much for each position. You know that, look, what I think I would do is I would go thinking about this. I would go market smart Mikhail bridges at guard and then go draymond green, what would I have to do? Jared and then bam, not bam, then Jared. I was just trying to figure out like in terms of like the center position. Yeah, I'd go Jared and a forward bam at center. And then on the second team, I think I would go drew, I don't know what I would necessarily do. That second guard spot. I don't really love Matisse, to be honest. I think he was a better this year than embiid was. I think he's over aggressive. Like I know that he's so disruptive and so he's really valuable defender..

"Rim protection, anything that you need from draymond green, deflections, getting his team organized in transition. Draymond green has all of it. I'm taking draymond green as my is the captain of my defense is my number one pick here. Number two overall. Yeah, I mean, if he'd come back, I don't know, a month earlier and had been at the same level. This is defensive player of the year this year. I don't even think it's close. Yeah, he was running away with it when he got hurt. And honestly, I'll be honest, I just forgot about him. He wasn't on my list. Well, yeah, it's like, look, because he missed out. Frankly, it doesn't change my pick at all, but it is funny that I just, he fell off my list because there were a lot of really good defenders this year and when he didn't come back and then when he came back wasn't at the same level, easy for me to kind of leave him off. Yeah, definitely, look, I think I would have draymond green first team all defense this year. And the reason is for me, I care more about performance on the all defense team than I do about missed games or anything. In terms of the defensive player of the year or the year award, I'm a little bit more willing to consider, okay, Mikhail bridges played well over a thousand minutes more than draymond green this year. He should be ahead of that in the most valuable defensive player of the year voting this year. But in terms of the all defense teams, I like to award a little bit more based on performance and make it a little bit more fungible in terms of games played. And for my money, there was no better defender on a permanent basis this year than draymond green. That's my pick. I don't hate it. I'm assuming Alex Caruso will be coming soon for you. Yeah, I'm gonna go bam out of bio..

"On that AFC Davis thing really quickly bought its injury concerns, which makes sense from a team perspective, but at least on this year's injuries anyway, which is the reason why he's only played 40 games this year as of recording this video, like you look at the two major injuries he's had, a dude fell into his knee and his ankle touched the earth. Like those are like to because he felt like he was going for a rebound and he just came down and landed. Like those are two really fluke plays. And the second one is a basketball player that anybody's played basketball before. They've had an injury like that where you just go come down after trying to get a rebound and you turn your ankle. So maybe you could go back to last year and say, oh, well, those are some of the injury prone stuff or even New Orleans, but for this year, I think those are more just flukey injuries. But I do think you can make an argument that AD prior to that first injury gets New Orleans was not playing well. And then he comes back and they started playing really well and then he gets hurt again. And I think it's been fine since coming back from the second injury, but yeah, I'm more on the side of at least for this year. Those are two flukey injuries. I still think he's a great player when healthy, but that's unfortunate because he just hasn't been recent years. Yeah. Yeah, he has not been, what are you healthy? He can be one of the very best in the NBA. By the way, did you see this? So if we're recording this here Wednesday evening, the sons after playing all their starters, they benched all their starters to get before the Lakers. Played them all against the Lakers went right back to benching their starting players against the clippers, Mikhail bridges being the only one who stayed in from the starting 5 and yeah, the songs, the sons brought all their guys back specifically to knock out the Lakers. Some Lakers fans saying thank you, put us out of our misery, but still people. People who think there isn't an anti Lakers agenda out there, among other teams in the NBA, it exists. It's a thing. Look at what the sun's just did. Yeah, this is a real thing where the sun's sticking it to the Lakers was something that they were that they were there for. Somehow they only lost by four. Now granted, they scored 48 points in the fourth quarter, only gave up 26, but yeah, some of the lost by four, but yeah, they definitely hate the Lakers. And again, I don't have real animosity towards the suns. I think it's one of those things like you mentioned we went on the New Orleans pelicans radio for ESPN. I think it was. And they asked if you have any animosity towards the public, if you're like, no, I don't care if you essentially is what you said. Yeah. But the sun's definitely hate the Lakers. Let's get back to the Eric pinkish piece about the Lakers future. He says changes at the top are unlikely. So a lot of Lakers fans right now are looking at this team from the perspective of burn this thing. This is the worst season.

"Me another top ten guys. So far we're two for two overlapping. This is one if I have one that's not on your list, it'll probably be this one. I have an affinity for older players that find ways to get better because I'm in the business of play development as you know. And human beings don't stop developing at 22, 23, 24. He was old when they drafted him to Phoenix, cam Johnson. And he's older now. And he is become and I think we saw this coming and I think probably our list last year we both had Mikhail bridges. Well, here comes cam Johnson doing the same kind of thing. He's become a really good two way player who made a big leap in his three point shooting. From 35% to 45%. That is stark. That's a big deal for a guy that already defends. And he's scoring better and his per 40, 16 to 20 in a game 9.6 to 13, whatever. His PR is grown into above average player now. He's a top 50 percentile player in EPM. But to me, the biggest thing is he's become a true three and D guy. And that wasn't the case a year ago. You were wrong coach, he's in my top ten. He was almost one of my last three cuts, but I kept him in, I think just 'cause I'm partial to guys who have to do what they do. I mean, on a great team, you don't necessarily get to show all these little things you've improved upon because your role is going to be pretty limited. And I think he's got more off the dribble, juice than he did last year, a little bit of self creation. Here in this a little bit, like it's not like they're throwing him the ball to run ten pick and rolls a game, but he'll do it every now and then he's catching go game is better and when Booker was out or Paul was out, you could see him start to score more. Like it was not surprising when cam Johnson scored 20 points a game before his recent, I think what is it a quad injury before his recent injury? He was putting up 20 pretty regularly defensively. He's better, three point shooting, even his rookie year. He was 39% which is really good. 45%, that may prove a career outlier, but he's a straight up sniper now that teams are terrified of. So between that and the off the dribble stuff and doing it in the context of a team where the expectations from the coach and Chris Paul and Devin Booker and everybody involved are more or less perfection on a possession to possession basis, I had them in my top ten. I don't think he'll make my top three ballot 'cause I just don't it's just not that dramatic, but I think it's the kind of improvement if you don't watch the sun's a lot you might not even see it, but it's there. Yeah, I'm with you and I just love that he's not a young guy and he's still getting better. Again, it's near and dear to my heart. My next guy, from here on in, if any of these guys are in your top three, I don't think you're wrong. They're not in my top three. My guess is we're going to have similar top three guys, but it's super close, at least with all but maybe the very top guy. But I've heard people talking about this guy's a top 5 guy. I've got miles bridges. And he's become this elite offensive player. I want to point out that until this last win streak that one maybe four and 5, lamella ball, the hornets were actually better when he was sitting on the bench. And he's now a plus one and beyond off numbers like on basketball reference. With bridges, he's plus almost 9. Like they are, there are still right there to make the playoffs and of course there'll be a playing game. And I think he's become just that guy where he's a solid defender. He's become an elite offensive player. And I don't know that if he had just stayed where he was last year, he's in the NBA a long time. But now he's looking at some serious money because he's that much better as a player. He's going 22 a game or 20 a game from 13 last year. That's a big deal. So I mentioned before that I had a long list and then a 13 person list in between that let's get deep in the weeds. I went from like 50 to 18 to 13. So there was an 18 person list of like finalists and I cut 5 of those to get to 13. Miles bridges was in that 5 and the reason I cut him, everything everything you said is totally true. He's average 20 points a game. Like 20 points game's not easy in the NBA on a team that's winning half its games. The only reason I cut him was the 32% shooting from three after looking last season, like he had maybe established himself as a good three point shooter. And look, I understand year to year three point shooting can be fluky, right? We don't really know his true level of three point shooting yet. It's probably between this season and last season. But the reason I cut it is you can see defenses treating him like a non threat now. And I think that that has ill effects for their half court offense. You can see them ignoring him just inviting him to shoot. And it hasn't shown up in the plus minus, like you said, but I think he's had a fine season. Like I said, he was one of my 18 finalists because only I would have 18 finalists for this one. I just I'm splitting hairs and I had to cut him just for the shooting piece of it, but he's a really good all around player and he is going to get paid and they are going to pay him after not coming to an agreement before the season. Yeah, one thing and maybe it's just the coaching me, but you know you show me a player who's not shooting well or as way has in the past. And yet his offensive numbers are transcending where they were before. That's a guy that's figured some stuff out. And I don't know there's many players as terrifying if you are trying to defend them in cutting to the rim, whether it's transition or more in the half as him. He is just a scary dude. You're risking losing an arm. And that's great. Listen, we do this all the time as coaches, players, if you can't make a shot, if they're a great shooters that are cold, keep shooting. If your miles bridges keep cutting, keep slashing, get on the offensive glass because nobody can mess with you when you do that. And he's figured that out. I give him credit for that. Four assists again to your point about his all around ability. And it's the off the dribble scoring that has really kind of offset the.

"Do you want me to answer that? Because you don't know? He's played 26. Okay, so how many games does Anthony Davis play? How many has he played? I have no idea. 27. So, I mean, we have an argument. And the damage was also not good. Well, chill. Come on. Russell Westbrook has not been good. Anthony Davis has been pretty good in those years. He's been underwhelming. Anthony Davis has been underwhelming. Yeah, a victim of his own incredibly high expectations for himself. But relative to everybody else, he's perfectly fine. And I think in the conversation for an all star, appearance, but won't get there because of the game. So that kind of thing. I don't think he's going to make the team. Okay. And so anyway, so who are the other two you're picking? If you'd let me get there. Anyway, literally assuming draymond and Paul George can not make it. I'm going to go dejante Murray as one of my picks. And then this one I'm going to be honest, I got a little romantic. I know it's gonna make you mad, 'cause you're gonna hit me with like 12 stats in a row that frankly, I'm just not going to care about. Okay. But I'm gonna instead of draymond, I'm gonna send Andrew Wiggins. Okay, just ridiculous, but okay. Everyone was almost engineered to make you angry. It doesn't make me angry, it's just like I don't, okay, can I actually, you know what? This is a perfect time. We got an email. But I'm speechless. I have this email now that I want to read because I'm glad that you pick Wiggins because it allows us to do this. So this email comes in from Nathan, who writes, my friend and I were talking about all star voting and the wings in the Western Conference. Eventually it got to a comparison between Mikhail bridges and Andrew Wiggins. I thought it was an interesting discussion. Personally, I like Mikael's defense and efficiency more, however, Wiggins heavier offensive load and improved defense has boosted his approval rating across the board. Who do you all think is more valuable to their team this year and going forward, Wiggins or bridges? So thank you. That's a great question for that email. Nathan, yes, a great question. Very fascinating because of the roles that these two are asked to play on their respective teams, the two arguably the two best teams in the Western Conference. It's fascinating because Mikhail bridges his so consistently wonderful and the role he's best to play. He doesn't even cross my mind for this exercise..

"And demar, it was tough to come up with someone who is quote unquote worse than demar, but I found someone another player who technically isn't leading his team in scoring right now, but conceivably do so before the season is over. He plays for a contender. I believe Rohan that you told me at one point you were considering getting his face tattooed on your back. It is Tyler hero. Oh. He scored he escort 45 more total points than Jimmy Butler this year. But he's averaging 2.4 fewer points per game. And it's conceivable that you disagree when I say in three months Tyler hero could easily be the leading scorer on the team and they could still be a contender. Yeah. No, that's a good pick. I was gonna say Jayson Tatum oh my God. Kidding, I'm kidding, I'm kidding. This is a tricky one, 'cause it's like, it's not like a worst team. It's like, who's the worst player? He's not going to lead the team in scoring, but does it have to be their own team, right? You know what I mean? Like, Nicole. Could root should be the leading scorer on a quote unquote team that was in the top 6 in either conference. Well, he could, for sure, but contender. I don't see but right now, we just talked about the bulls for like two seconds. And he's not there leading score. I know, but I just hit this question, I guess a little bit more theoretical in terms of all the things in the league, if they were the number one scoring option, could they finish in the top 6? So right, so I'm ending up on guys like vuc Tobias Harris. Maybe. Thaddeus actually throughout Kristoff's porzingis in his email also as another potential. I honestly don't. Candidate here. I don't see that one. Wait, so you're going Tobias Harris and vooch, but no, no KP. KIPP is a bucket getter, man. I'm out on KP. I know he's been better this year, but I'm out on KP. I'm sorry. Here's I think the spiciest one I have. Okay. Could Mikhail bridges be the number one score on a team that was top 6 in either conference? That's absolutely lit Chris. I'm sorry. No chance. I love you. There's a 0% chance there. I'm sorry. That's just not who he is in the NBA. Just a little juice. He's got a little juice. I think he could run some pick and rolls. It was like the year granted this team finished out of the playoffs, so take it with a massive grain of salt. But there was that year the heat just kind of turned to the offense over to Josh Richardson. And it had mixed results. And I think Mikhail bridges is a better player than him. He's so if Mikhail bridges was the leading scorer on a team as opposed to the fourth, maybe the 5th option right now on the sons and no one his buckets are almost entirely created by the attention that I'm not disagreeing..

By the way, a couple wing contracts I wanted to highlight javon Carter three years 11 and a half million. That's got a chance to be really good contract, but then he's 6 one. Like he's not a three and D player like Mikhail bridges is a three and D player, even though he, the guy he can be up, he can really die up. Dorian Finney Smith is on a ridiculous three year $12 million contract. He's gonna get paid this summer if he has a good year. So that value will disappear. Sneaky good contract that I don't think got enough love even though they won the championship. Pat Connaughton three years 16 million. I don't know, I'd have to sit down and watch film of him defensively obviously his three point shot his oscillated up and down pretty wildly and I don't think he's sort of guarded with the respect of a good three point shooter. That's a good contract. He's a good all around player, like it's hard to sneak those deals in under the radar, but they do exist, and his content 85% of Mikhail bridges maybe, I don't know. "Bridges does. But if you wanna do those back. I got i got puerto rican. Do those the other direction I think equal continue. I and that's actually. That's a pretty good opening offer phoenix. I i'm actually pretty pleased with that. And of course trying to keep this This team together is a really important. You guys You know this. It's tough for me. I i will be honest here speaking breaking the fourth wall. It's tough to come up with a cop for this player type. That's much higher than twenty million a year at this point in time. I mean you. You could point out that otto porter. Y'all got a four year. Max from the brooklyn nets but that was a different cap environment. You still had the the rising kappa at that point. There isn't that team out there. Like the nets. Also i think honestly that people probably learned from that contract being a mistake that you just don't offer the mac to place that nick a tomb was another one. I mean that contract really turned out poorly So like i. I would just sign twenty million dollars a year if a if our bridges. Your stand But i'll say this being you can get me to twenty two million guaranteed plus some reachable incentives for another two million a year. And i could win the press conference Actually here like maybe we between reachable and unreachable and says if i can win the press conferences with four years one hundred million and you know it ends up being more like Eighty seven million dollars. Eighty eight million dollars. Guaranteed a we gotta deal. I think a win the press conference with twenty million when when something like out that oh cobra get twenty million extent. People were like what casual fans. This is a yeah. Wow who is the president. You know. So i i think eighty million the press conference will but you didn't hear what i just said dan that was just for those. Just you go see it. I would say the same thing. If i didn't hear what you just said but i what have we did. Four years eighty two. Then you can say you're making more than twenty million a year. Well give me. Oh god i really wanna do this. I've just talking about what the incentives should be I it's hard for to put incentives for player like you. That aren't going to be. I mean i guess we could do about t- yeah no i i think. That's t- based incentives. Is you know. Second round of the playoffs third riley playoffs. You know that that type of thing you know where the sons are being a contender over the years. proving that you're getting into a situation where you're a factor in the western conference. That's what mikhail bridges supposed to bring traditional stats. Aren't gonna do much for you with that. Like and i like that. I like that idea something like that. I'm going to. I'm going to take it to ownership. Wait i'm sorry. I just heard from ownership. They are not comfortable doing something like that Going into the playoffs ending the regular season going past the trade deadline not knowing what the luxury tax liability will be on their contract on your contract. I liked the idea. Don't make me the babs area. But i did hear from ownership that. They're not open to that. Could we make it winds through the trade deadline. My first question is is that allowed. I understand why would be honestly. It's just based stat like you. It'll probably be win percentage. Do it like a couple of weeks before the trade deadline so that we could Figure out whether we need to dump somebody right. You can't just do an entree deadline day and like. Oh now what do we do have a pretty good idea of whether they were gonna hit the number less. It was like you're right on it like you. Could you know whether it was a possibility or a other. you know. It wouldn't be the first time that roberts got a little unreasonable. When we came to any other. I will give him credit for paying for the andrea and of course If only mikhail bridges had was a different kind of wildcat than the one. He is getting paid more. It is it possible wins a previous season so that way we don't go into the next year or you know. How are you going to the previous year. I don't that i would be surprised. But i'm not sure Okay how how about this Let's a to do. E five million guaranteed and then a million dollar bonus each year for making the second round. So we're just thirty eighty straight. let's leave it as the the twenty million per year base salary and will do Let's do half a million for You're gonna start with an offer of eighty million and just like not. Increase it at all kinds of negotiations while i'm increasing it. Let's do a half a million four second round half a million for conference finals half a million for finals half a million for winning a championship. You just offer me. Eighty two million dollars guaranteed a now. You're going back to eighty year indeed. Yeah but there's This could be up to eighty eight. We do eighty two or we could do the eighty up to eighty eight. I thought this was more what you're looking for with the the higher upset. No actually what. I was looking for one hundred billion star of i mean i thought this was a better offer than the eighty two because it could be eighty eight. Yeah this is. This is getting close to where. I think i might actually be able to get for more than square. It's where i don't think it would be like prohibitively. Expensive like oj. And obi who. I am more accomplished than no health issues was. Eighteen million to cap is going up played while in the playoffs. I how about this. For how about four eighty four two straight aright fucking server so. This.

"I believe that booker sits out at the beginning of the second corps that entire league gets a race that will be scrutinized As this series moves forward her kind of you know we remember this area. I think kind of to echo a muna said the suns could do well to have another guy who can put the ball on the floor and create shots for himself because we saw devon booker basically have to assume the entire load. And i think we saw chris paul kind of maxed out what he could do with thirty six year. Old physical body and it was really. This team is at their best. When devon booker chris paul creating and the role players are getting busy off of those guys creating but those guys can't create for themselves when when devon booker. Chris ball need help. Like you just said so. Like when mikhail bridges and jae crowder Are are putting the ball on the floor and de'andre eight and is trying to finish over jaanus. That was kind of what we saw. This team gets stressed. Rosser constraint purposes. I think dario sars. I've see a pretty big loss in hindsight not being able to get a little bit bigger and match the size of the box as well as having another guy who's competent in the rotation..

"You know just watching these bucks in the finals. It's been up and down at time. Depending on the performance of drew holiday or the performance of the. Chris middleton when they can be streaky but the roster makes sense. And that's why they're here and that's why they're up three two in the finals against another team that that's constructed very very well. The suns are a great team besides the backup center spot. Is there any chance that this son's team down three to having to go on the road. Now in milwaukee really tough the play their man like deer district outside. They're going to bring that energy into the arena for game six. How do you feel about phoenix. Chances that at least forcing a game seven kyle. I mean it's it's definitely possible because this series has been so competitive and you have the. It's always possible that we've we don't want we shouldn't get misled by the streaky. Play like it has streaked in a good direction for a for phoenix but another thing to consider too Brutal production from the foul line. I'm incr- milton. Didn't get to the line of night but jahn item moment there were i was just like man. This is played so well. Is this what we're going to remember that he blew these free throw. Geez your really really tough. I mean it's definitely possible. I mean they get a little bit more out of aden they could get a little bit. More out of bridges perimeter players didn't get going as much tonight. But i it could happen. I i guess the question is do you think that. Do you think that there's anything that phoenix can do to to sort of spread the offense out a little bit to get everybody involved more or is this just the way they're built in milwaukee has kind of figured them out in a way i mean quote unquote heavy quote unquote figure them out because phoenix almost stole this game tonight but they've clearly done enough to bother them To make make it more difficult. I mean at you and i both pick phoenix. Pick them in six two and six. Yep i don't know throwback to you what do you do you see anything. That's a that that they could exploit and maybe they can tweak or just tax. Paul i think i mean. I don't think he's right. I don't think he's one hundred percent. The chris paul but we saw to close the series against the clippers. Twenty four shots in that final game. Forty-one points chris paul. We saw at the start the series thirty point. Thirty two points on one thousand nine shots in game. One twenty three shots on the twenty shots in game two an emphasis on the amount of shots twenty four nineteen and twenty since then fourteen. Thirteen and fifteen. I want to see chris. Paul plank forty plus minutes. I wanna see. Chris paul taking twenty shots. I mean like. I do think it's important to spread the love in the get some creation from everywhere if you can but you gotta have chris paul at maximum efficiency at maximum production on the offense event. And you didn't get that in terms of scoring tonight again. Like i know it's weird to say twenty one points and eleven assists in only one turnover but just watching the game. I don't feel like he's there all the way like we just saw him and that's partially due to holiday one hundred percent but as you still took a tough match but as you said like he's hitting some extraordinary shots still. I want to see more of it from him because that fair. I think that's pretty fair cabinet line for saying that at all in that game six of the only finals that he may ever referred for all we know you know i mean looking at the wings to you now. Mikhail bridges was five or six campaign was a campaign with three for seven cam johnson. To for three cam johnson. We twenty one minutes tonight. I mean those guys shot. Well it just seems like campaign was involved. They've done a good job keeping him from really His his like offensive production like swelling and really swinging the game. It seemed like it just seemed like there was a real live on that. And you know. Milwaukee has the switchable length to that isn't as easily exploitable. So i mean. I could see how that happened. But or maybe campaign got hot and he's kind of cooled off a little bit. Maybe it's a little bit of both here but they've done a good job putting a cap on that did have that ankle injury in game. Three of the clippers serious and his offense that that was one game after he had the twenty nine points performance when everybody was talking about cameron payne and the story that he is because he's been great all season long. I wonder how much that ankle injury could be affecting him. If at all or if he's just pressing and the in these high pressure moments here. I do wonder which one it is. But he's another guy that needs to be better. You gotta get more out of your back court. Are you going to change your prediction for the series kyle. Obviously it can't be sunday. You don't get to do that now staying to do that. I i'm sticking with a man. I sit up top. That i expected. I expected milwaukee to explore or to have some of these advantages in their big three. I mean that's not. That's a sort of a flip flop thing to say. I mean. I did. Expect him to give problems. But i still expected. Phoenix is sort of cohesive luethi and strength as a unit to to be the thing that would put them over the top but man stars. Make a big difference in this game. And milwaukee has three guys that can create there's consistently and phoenix at a high level and phoenix has pretty much to and it's it's interesting in the next few years how this is going to shake out like how these young players are going to develop because if they can get development like creation development. I heard mikhail bridges talk on the the old man in the or no it was on the the longshot. Podcast good podcast. I was hearing him talk about his own development. And that's something that he really wants to do. You did a great video about that. I mean that's going to be huge for the sun's going forward. I don't know that they're going to get those kind of leaps in the short term unless they touched the obelisk from two thousand and one and just like leap forward and and the in their knowledge but yeah i mean the sun's just Sometimes it comes down to stars and creation honestly. That's that's the funny thing about basketball one last question here and i'm also curious for everybody who listen to us record. This live on green room on late saturday early sunday morning. Depending on your time zone. Is there anything from this series or the overall finals. Kyle that you've taken and thought about it. In terms of the context of the nba drafts. This might be our last pod during the finals. Because there won't be a game seven next saturday but so i'm just curious about has learned anything or is there any player in particular has made you think about a certain prospect or a theme or skill that you might be looking for in the nba draft. What have we learned about. How teams are going to build moving forward. I guess i don't know how much has really changed. I mean you want you obviously want to look for big. Time shot creators. Who can who can flip. They're grabbing and get rid of the ball create. You obviously want to have shotmaker. We've seen those guys have an impact on these series. Just just having switchable big players who have like switchable length but also a strong. If you notice that something about the milwaukee players that's important Lanky strength is important. You know janas has that they all can kind of gosh. I mean like there are times where drew can check five. I mean he is so strong he can't like again like body and like stop like a poster but sometimes you can It's that's important. So i mean you know shotmaking and defensive versatility..

"His club. You're getting the extended video via email. I think from the studio in a second, So we're gonna need to revisit this because the ending actually might be better than the beginning. Okay. I I will wait to receive it. But I I I don't know how it can be better, but I'm gonna take you at your word. All right, so the sons they are short on playoff experience, but they're definitely long on town. What they're up to on the box in the finals after last night's 1 18 108 victory. Devin Booker, a team high 31. We've been through it all through the regular season and stressing the details of the game. So you know, I think we're prepared for this moment. You know, obviously, Milwaukee is no slouch, and they make it tough on us, and they're always gonna make it tough on us. But You know, we've we've seen a lot as a team. Booker hit three threes in the fourth to stop the box final push. The Suns wore up 15 and the third, but only five at one point of the fourth. Phoenix hit 20 three's total, tying for the second most ever in the finals game. Mikhail Bridges scored 27 last night. 23 8 assists for Chris Paul Yannis looked like Yannis in his second game back from his hyper extended knee, 42 points and 12 rebounds. 20 of those points came in the third to keep the box from getting boat raised, but they came up shortly and they're down. Oh, to Janice, if nothing else, is optimistic. We've made a great run so far this year and we go out and enjoy this. This part. Um it's kind of hard to enjoy the game when you're losing. But we're gonna figure out three in Milwaukee on Sunday night. Three members of USA Select the team of young NBA players practicing against the Olympic team are reportedly in Covid protocols. It's Emanuel quickly. Miles bridges and PJ Washington. Team USA has its first exhibition game tomorrow against Nigeria in Vegas. Let's go back now to Padres rookie reliever Daniel Camarena. He came into last night's game with the Nats After you. Darvish allowed six runs and promptly served up a true run homer down. 82 bases loaded bottom four. The pods let Camarena hit to save the bullpen, and he crushed a grand slam for his first career hit. Honestly when I hit first base, and I saw the lights kind of flashing, That's when I realized I hit a home run,.

"This is the sequence everyone is talking about after Game two of the NBA Finals Now holiday on the drive all slips away. Sons pick it up. DeAndre Ayton gets it a crowded crowder up to Chris Paul Paul drives gives it up to Booker. Then they swing it in the corner of the bridges. Bridges moves inside out to crowded in the near corner. They pass it around the perimeter. Here's Booker Outfront Booker goes up and gives it over to Crowder. They've got to do something into bridges underneath the Andre eight historic Calvin and his foul play by the Phoenix Suns. Al McCoy, Tim Kempton sons Radio 10 passes leading to a DeAndre eight and three point play, which gave the Sun's a 56 45 lead at halftime. That lead group of five. 15 ruling the third but was as small as five in the fourth before a 1 18 108 victory. Devin Booker led Phoenix with 31 hitting seven of the team's 20 three's Chris Paul put up 23 points that assists. Mikhail Bridges went for 27. The Bucks got 42 points and 12 boards from Yannis, but just 17 from drew holiday only 11 from Chris Middleton, so there are no two whole, just like they were against the Nets. Middleton looking forward to going home. It's gonna be tough. I mean, no. It took. It took care of their home court. We gotta find a way to do the same. Almost starts with the first one at home, though we gotta come up, be prepared. Be ready for a dog fight. I mean, we have been in this whole before. It's not gonna be easy, but we gotta find a way to do it. Three on Sunday night, James Harden got himself in the gossip columns. Yesterday, The Nets guard stopped not detained nor arrested by Paris police hardened, apparently trying to intervene when the car was stopped for a marijuana smell. He was questioned. Maybe Frist. But that was it as I mentioned last down with the Padres stunned the Nats last night, 98 after trailing eat Nothing earlier.
