I want to get your thoughts on some of the The negative from this game tonight because again. Great win goodwin but not all perfect Let's start a murray going to be so negative. Let's start with some of the play calling in the first half particularly you know. Second one goal line You know the fourth down. Play the the end zone fade. I hated endzone. Fate buys about that any in any way. No matter who the quarterback is but some of the play calling you saw in that first half. Yeah i think the one that stands out to me is the end zone fade. I mean i. I hate that anyways. I mean the the the only way i'm calling. That is if i if. I have an elite quarterback and i have a wide receiver. Who's about six foot five against a five ten cornerback and look. I understand that i understand. Why mack jones through the past. That's the way you know. The formation led him and also the coverage and but you know sometimes common sense has to take over. and and jacoby myers is not the guy that i'm throwing an end zone fade to. I mean he just look he. He's really good at what he does but he's not an outside the numbers type of guy go up and beat somebody take away a ball. That's not you know his deal. And so i you know. I would have liked to have seen at least somebody else i mean i. I don't even know who would be on this roster. I mean you would think. Ideally it's mikhael harry but He's not gonna do that even though you know he did. Have a tough catch today. So you know any had won the week before. So maybe something's happening there Agores really not that guy. Not that guy it's too. I mean you gotta go. You gotta go to hunter henry in that situation and and dial up some sort of play but the i i understand i mean i. It's become a new england favorite pastime to beat up on the play calling around here and and sometimes it is certainly warranted. I thought a couple of spots today. Yes and i did. I thought it was very I thought mcdaniels scott a little bit pass. Happy at one point in the game where and i think they reset at halftime. I think they realized what was going on. Mac was sort of out of sorts. And hey let's get back to what we do. Well let's run the ball. Some play action. Let's just make them a little bit more comfortable. And i thought that got a little bit better in the second half by that but when a pocket quarterback at sped up like mack jones. Didn't this game. It's really hard to get them out of it. John bentley and coverage is not good Especially on jared cook even hightower at times what. What's with that second level. It seemed like early on the d. line was doing their job. Yeah joe i think when i look at those plays i saw sort of something different on all of those plays in terms of what was breaking down. I mean the the one that got to the outside One that got around. Kyle duggar and i think john williams was over there and cow. Douglas gotta be. he's he's the fourth guy he's he's gotta keep that inside and he didn't get out there and all of a sudden they get on the edge. the big seventy. I think it was the seventy five yard run released on one of the runs. Dietrich wise got moved against the double team and that's that's sort of what you get with him in. it's why i've just. I'm not a fan of him way. If you think you need to stop the run and maybe the patriots just didn't think they were going to need to do that because the chargers really are they throw the ball. Two thirds of the time In normal game situations and you know that was a calculated risk. But you gotta. It seemed almost for a stretch there when the chargers were purposely running at dietrich wise because especially him lined up against the the left tackle and left guard who are the best players on the offensive line. The centers really good to the right side is terrible but when dietrich wise was going up against those two guys on the left side it was It looks like a highway. That's sort of been what's been going on here. You know yes. The second second level is having issues but normally When the patriots are having problems with the run defense either on the edge like duggar or them not.

"Who would cause a massive issue like this if he didn't think that it was going to get solved. Are you surprised the steelers let gets this point. Yeah i guess that's that is a good point because clearly they could have done something earlier in the offseason but these contracts can be so difficult and. I think that they're still at the where it's t. j. watt. He's bitten the system for so long he knows what he's doing. He's got over thirteen sacks over the last three years. It's not that paramount that he's on the practice field at this point it. If this lingers longer into the season i guess you could wonder why they didn't get it done now but i do think that they're still at a pretty safe point with it. yeah i think that's fair. You mentioned gilmore. I wanna finish up. You're talking about maybe some of the guys who either could get extensions or could be on the move. A few players around the nfl who have been subject to trade talks or trey discussion. And i want to know what you think about. The chances will be maybe either on their current team or get an extension won't happen with these guys in the weeks to come and let's start with stefan gilmore or course star cornerback for the new england. Patriots recent defensive player of the year but a guy who's coming up to the final year of the free agent contract. He signed several years ago. And we know bill. Belichick is not afraid or opposed to trading star players when he thinks that their time with the team is coming to an end so What do you think goes into the calculus for the patriots. And what do you think happens with gilmore for the twenty twenty one sees. I think the patriots are are almost kind of stuck right now where they need to figure this out with stefan gilmore and it's they're not perfect examples but it is somewhat similar to the saving howard situation because those defenses the brian floors defense or the bill belichick defense need those two cornerbacks more adept in man coverage and the dolphins avid and byron jones. Being howard and the patriots should have it. With jesse jackson and stefan gilmore if they trade stefan gilmore or if these issues lingered into the season and mrs time then they don't have much Behind on gilmore right now training camp jalen mills has been that number two cornerback. Jalen mills really kinda struggled as a cornerback at times of the philadelphia eagles which is why he was moved into more of a hybrid safety slot. Cornerback jack-of-all-trades type role and jill mills actually made a couple of plays When i was at practice on monday but overall i've heard that he is kind of struggled this season. Our this training camp For the patriots. And that's understandable. He wasn't a great man coverage outside. Cornerback with the philadelphia eagles. If you go beyond him then joe williams was a second round. Pick in two thousand nine hundred nine. Who really hasn't worked out. And then you're getting into guys like miles bryant. Who is more of a safety or slot option. Mike jackson senior. who's a fifth round. Pick a few years ago. But it's gonna bounce off practice. Squads the the issue for the patriots is that they really don't have great depth at the cornerback position beyond gilmore jesse jackson and their slot back jonathan jones. So that tells me that just the fact that the patriots didn't address that physician more. This offseason tells me that the patriots think that this can be settled. And i think that that is the sense within the building. Is that one way or the other. They'll figure this out. They'll get him what he needs and he'll be back by the time the season starts so do you think you'll be just for this upcoming season and turn of the two parties will part ways. I think that's definitely a possibility. I think that that's in play. I think that. I think that the gilmore's camp would be open to something similar last year. Where he just gets a raise and the patriots make him happy. I also think that he'd be fine with a contract extension if they wanna pay 'em like observing our if they wanna pay them like darius slay. I'm not sure if the patriots are going to wanna do that for an older cornerback who who is coming off the quad injury So i'm i'm i'd i'd say that the more likely scenarios at this other kind of one year deal then they'll figure it out in the future But i do think it's possible that they reach a contract extension. I don't think it's off the table. Means can't jesse jackson of course as well About to hit free agency after an impressive season a year ago On their side of the ball the patriots. We should talk about in larry who Put out a trade request earlier. This summer I was intrigued certainly I think one of the all time. Great press releases and terms of agents Backing their players talking about how. They were uncomfortable. But what about you'll harry Has stood out to you. Do you think he's on the patriots. We'd want i think he is. He's had a pretty good training camp. He's been one of the standup players the summer at the same time. He's just kind of buried on the depth drive behind the guys that they brought in this off season nelson agra and kendrick born. She'll be myers would be above mom depth chart so you're really looking at him as being you know the fourth or fifth option. The patriots don't have a lot of depth. That water. Beyond mikhael. Harry so i do think that he probably sticks around at this point. If you're only going to get a low draft pick forum anyway. Which i think is the most that any team would probably be willing to give up for harry unless he just absolutely blows up in the three preseason games. I think you're better off keeping the depth and kind of saving face by keeping the first round pick that you took two years ago rather than dealing him at this point a six or seven th round pick. I'd say that maybe if there's some sort of player for player deal that could work out You know we we mentioned. cj henderson earlier james washington is another player who's reportedly requested a trade. There's some wide receivers on the arizona cardinals that maybe could be made available. That would make sense to me if it's a player for player swap but if you're only dealing with the draft which most these trades are that i think that you're better off just keeping him on the roster a guy who was reportedly or maybe not logically available for a late round. Pick heading into the offseason was kurtz Who has a cap. It in the final year of his deal with the eagles. Seems like we've been waiting all summer for as akers straight to happen and here. We are in the middle training camp and soccer. it's still on the philadelphia eagles roster so ibm given what you're hearing given. What you think is accurate. It's going to be on the eagles season or do you think it's just a game of chicken and they're going to wait until the last possible second.

When you've got someone who's clamoring for trade mikhael. Harry by all accounts is looking dominant if they truly want to trade him. What better way than to showcase him in the preseason when he's been looking pretty good you want everyone to see that you wanna you want someone overpay for him and honestly he has apparently looked pretty dominant If he can do the same against washington maybe they can get the get their wish and find a trade partner for them It does sound like they'd be willing if they get anything in return. So nikki. i'm gonna go kind of contrarian here i say i see the patriots. Put their show horse out in display and and see if they can't get a trade partner for harry. The only thing that scares me about that is the quarterback while that's given the that's given the player what he wants and that's that's not bell chip style. He's kind of like fuck you. i'm not gonna. i'm not gonna help you out this your first round. Pick your playing three quarters in the fucking preseason. That's that's also an angle too or are they worried if they do want to train him him. Getting injured in preseason then completely looted using trade. It could go both ways and trying to get into checks. Head is a fool's errand. I'm going to different new england receiver. I think he's like last on their depth chart. But what i've been doing is googling training camp surprises and that's a great way to pick up some nuggets from the beat reporters and by all accounts christian wilkerson is he's given Nicole harry a run for his money. I don't have a ton of scouting on him. Just i know that. Everyone's saying he's popping ryan. He's got crazy hair which is a helpful. he's get involved in fights him and mills are getting into it. He's got some sweet dreads. Always like loading up on on guys with dreads. And yeah i mean so look at these headlines are patriots receivers nicole harry and christian wilkerson for real so the fact that he's being talked about in that in that capacity rookie coming in the those are the guys that are going to get some shine. Those are they have a On on one of the eagles podcasts. They have the knob brown award. And it's just about it's about now. Brown just had an amazing training camp and all the all. The eagles fans fell in love with him. So those are the guys. And when we adam levitan on talking about where he most thirty most or was like a training camp lejeune as well. Those are the guys you got to find. It is interesting because like my next guy. d brown. He's a draft pick. We're kind of talking about him as a late stab in best ball. Yeah i got him going in my flex as well. Okay and you know again. I i feel like maybe we're previewing the games a little too early but it is. It is a bit difficult to find any even sort of mention of how they might play these guys. You can kinda see how they're being used in practice. Some beat reporters are nice enough to put out those snap reports But i think for you know. Obviously the stack isn't that important in preseason. Dfs but You know you wanna play the super high varian skies with harry brown. They both feel like they can have big plays score touchdowns that's definitely has the ability to break off speaking of that quiz. Lock ins. he. Is you know the onto smith taking it. Slow at the knee sprain but washington's is by all accounts one of the best rec- eagles receivers camp. I mean coming in. He was the guy fighting for a roster position. so i think he's going to get a ton ton of of look here so yeah and quiz watkins. And you saw the The training camp video so far there at the The lincoln financial field practice jalen hurts rolled out to his laugh through fifth yard bomb to quiz watkins. I think they're gonna take a couple of deep shots quiz. He's a speedster and he's actually guy again. I i talked a full. Maybe regular as that you play. I still like fulcrum but quiz lock ins the more. I'm seeing about camp and again like they're. They're their stressing the yards after catch and quiz. That's kind of his wheelhouse so all in quiz watkins. Alright right sean. Next up i. I do think it would be silly to not play a steelers wide receiver And and so. I guess there were a couple. I'm not going to be able to stay on the field but you can sign me. And then i've seen i don't know about you sort of it. I've seen many people. Discuss the nicole harry the patriots Two thousand nineteen thank you. Who is who is requesting requesting trade. Many people talk about. Hey man maybe the chiefs should take a look at this. We are we serious about this guy who is been a bust right now in nicole hairy it with the patriots now granted. Some of that quarterback play in year. Two that he faced last last year with cam and brian. Hoyer isn't really the great thing to help you out with. But a guy who's been a bust eighty-six targets in the last two years since he's been in the league. And then josh gordon who who who just cannot stay on the field and hell. I don't even know how good he is anymore. Right now he. I mean he hasn't even played long enough to even know how good it's been a long time. Eight nine years since he led the nfl in receiving yards. I we are not in this desperation mode that it feels like every week. Please tell me why the chiefs need to go. Take a look at these two guys. Please sell me on this garbage certa all that you try to sell us on going out there and getting one of these guys josh. Gordon's your dude. Well yes. I love. Josh gordon He had a couple of catches with the patriots a couple years ago. He still got it all right. He had a catch with russell couple years ago in like week. Sixteen josh gordon's so got it baby. No yes obviously. There's question marks. Obviously there's flags but if he gets reinstated. I'm interested in taking a look at him because it doesn't cost you anything to bring him into camp in just cut him if he can't keep it together if you think yes. He's just not good at football anymore. He's out of shape. He's had just hasn't had the reps over the last several years to maintain the level of athleticism and play that you need to succeed in the modern day. Nfl but if we're talking about we want another camp body and we want to bring in another wide receiver and see what happens. I'd be very interested in bringing in josh gordon. Especially over nikial harry. I understand the kill. Harry is only twenty four years old but he is just not looked like a competent. Nfl wide receiver. The patriots haven't done a lot to help him out but he hasn't been very good in the. Nfl doesn't create separation in any way not interested. I wasn't really that interested in him as a prospect. I am on the josh. Gordon train because i wanna see as many weapons as possible with patrick mahomes. Maybe we believe fifth round wide receiver. Cornell pal is the answer or mccoll's finally going to take a huge step forward on the outside which is out of position for him. But i'd like to see. I'd like to go to training camp and see josh gordon practicing with the chiefs and see what that looks like. Yeah i'm out on josh gordon of you should be i one jock. Laurie hawkins seed. And i hope he latches on somewhere in his super successful. It has nothing but the best moving forward. I just don't think that's going to be chiefs. The chiefs have a bunch of lottery tickets and at this point in his career makes me sad to say this. But that's what josh gordon is. Mikhael harry stinks. Like he's just a bad football player. So there's no reason for the chiefs to be interested in him if the chiefs are gonna go free agency route again. I don't think this guy significantly improves you. From what you already have. But the only guy. That's available that i would be interested in is dede westbrook again. I don't think that's any sort of significant upgrade. He's basically until we antonio. Calloway and you have antonio calloway already on your roster so i think what they have right now is probably barring some sort of trade or a surprise cut after camp what they're going to have going into the season and that is a little bit concerning because what you're looking at right now as tyreek hill which is great but then mccoll hardman damarcus robinson cornell powell byron pringle and then probably one of marcus camp garrick deeter antonio calloway or daria shepherd. One of those guys probably going to be the final roster spot where the wide receivers that just doesn't inspire a ton of confidence from me. The only guy that i feel good about his tyreek hill and then everybody else is a massive question mark in when i read earlier. This week from nate taylor of the athletes and i quote from the voluntary wait workouts in the teams mandatory minicamp mccoll hardman appears to be in position to have a breakout season as he is expected to have the role previously held by sammy watkins. That's terrifying for me. I i don't think he's a guy that profiles to play in that role sammy. Watkins was a prototypical x. Wide receiver where he can line up. On the line of scrimmage and beat man press coverage that is the opposite of what mccall hardman profiles as in fact the only guy on the team. Maybe you got two of them. That can do that. I think is cornell powell and byron pringle and i don't think those guys are starting level wide receivers at least not right now so i. I don't think they have that guy on the roster today. Listen i. I think as upset before that is something that is being overblown using the words terrified a mike that that feels a pitch strong. That feels a bit strong to use. Sorta josh gordon. And i i hope he hooks up with chip and joanna gaines down in waco. And maybe they can you know do some kind of work with him. Maybe he can help build some houses and work at magnolia farms. I don't i don't particularly well. I think they can help people. I think he got a better chance to his life getting on track them. Come in and play in the national football league. I can't wait for that. So what are we starting with. So you want. We'll start with the nfl so earlier this week. Mikhael harry of the patriots officially requested a trade on tuesday now considering he was drafted as their first round. Pick only two years ago in two thousand nineteen is he already considered a first round bust and considering that the texans love signing ex patriots. Could the texans us as help Wasn't shock me. They added everybody else off sees like fifty new players or whatever it is listen yes he can be considered a bust now but it doesn't mean he has to stay there today he is a bust. Two years in a league hasn't really urinated dropping. Hasn't done anything now. That doesn't mean he's not going to be a player. I think it possibly from him and the rest of it. Sometimes you just need a change of scenery and of a venue change. They draft in the first round for a reason. Showed great skills in college. Hasn't worked out there whether it's because the way the system set up the offense he doesn't know how to separate can't finish whatever it is but if you're going by two years is the first round pick. Yes they he he's he would be labeled bust so far. I hate that word. Because it's it's unfair because you can revitalize it with one seventy five cat season. I think the best thing for him. Yes while i don't know how much demands you can put on. Wanna be traded is the second as a first round pick done nothing the first two years but if you want to check may very well oblige you if it's for the right gig he's got a lot of proven to do to bleed to to prove that he's a player. I'm not quitting on him yet. I'm not so sure. New england has though it may be time to move on depending on what you'd get. The problem is the value for him. You'd be spent a i on him. I personally while i root for success and i hope it kicks ass and let's the nfl endorses. The minor league gives money from each team allots. Money and their shield is on the spring league. We saw them fill that role with kendrick born. And now nikial. Harry of the new england patriots. Former first round pick has demanded a trade. He wants out of new england. I don't know that new england particularly cares that he's demanding a trade. But this is someone that's kyle and akash set on their show yesterday that the niners were heavily interested in When he came out in twenty nineteen he probably could be very very cheap. Do you wanna see the niners take a flyer on the keel hairy. Yeah at the right price. Obviously all come down to price. But i would try to fourth round pick. Wow for nicole. Harry our trade a fourth. What is the fourth. it's not that valuable. But the potential with nicky. Larry is big kyle. Shanahan loved him and on top of that. The niners have connection. The no other team has brennan was his team mate in two thousand eighteen at arizona state if brennan Signs on says yes. Go get him. Like i think he was a great teammate. He doesn't have problems. he has great workout. You know he has insight into how harry is behind the scenes. You know. I practice things like that. And if he signs off on it then why not you. Essentially what the situation is now. It'd be kinda humorous. And i think the other thing that may be running through kyle's head is harry is not like a burner. He's not a separator. What he reminds me of basically is like deebo samuel very similar type of player. Who's not known for his speed but really really good with the ball on his hands. Good and space. Good on the run. Maybe in the back of kyle's mind he's like you know we can't rely on deebo to play all sixteen games. But if we had mikhael harry who could fill that role if if deebo gets hurt were okay. You know kyle. I feel like a big thing for him is like just keep the train moving. We can't get derailed by injuries. And i feel like their plan. Now is almost we know. These guys are gonna get hurt. We just have to build redundancies to me. If they get somebody. Like harry. And he's better at the out. Routes the post routes things like that i would slide devaux inside to the slot because what does deebo accelerate. He excels at those short yardage. Quick slants across the middle type of routes that the slot normally runs. I i could see it. Being harry norman plays on the outside and deebo is a heavily featured slot. I mean you've got plenty of teams where their slot receiver is the receiver on the team and goes for one hundred plus catches now. The debate is going to get one hundred plus catches but you know just because he's the slot not technically the starter doesn't mean deebo couldn't put up big numbers and be a massive focal point for the offense. That's an interesting point that i hadn't thought of i look. I just wanted to work man. I don't care where you're putting them. Just get in there and were. Let's see these guys on the field and see what they actually have. I still don't know how many games kiddle deebo and i. You have all had together especially with the starting quarterback. I think it's like less than five. Pretty sure only like one or two when you factor in the quarterback because i think it's around five with those three receivers when you factor in the fact that jimmy garoppolo was injured all last year. I just want to point out too by the way that when the patriots drafted harry de que. Metcalf was on. The board depot was on the board carry. Maclaurin was on the board hideous job by the new england. Patriots absolutely hideous. They've never been good at drafting wide. Receivers and i know that bill. Belichick is a great coach. And he is. I don't think he's a very good. Gm and i think there's a tendency to just assume that whoever the patriots pick up is going to be good because they win a lot and that has not been the case somebody on twitter. 'cause i posted saying you know i would go after hearing and somebody replied like he hasn't done anything worthwhile and i made the point of other than randy moss and god mode for those couple years. What outside receiver has ever put a big stats for the patriots that oftens features the slot. They are the offense. I would argue in the nfl. That is the slot receiver feature because you went from west wilder to edelman and before that you even had guys like troy. Brown slid into the slot quite a bit when he put up some numbers. So that offense is not one where the outside receiver can excel unless they're random us and nobody is physically. I am not shedding any tears for the new england patriots..

I think assuming russell wilson stays healthy this offense as can be good and yeah. I think it's just one of those things like the seahawks are just sort of like the most steady team in the nfl. "I think this passing attack will really benefit from those two guys. They also added wide receivers kendrick bourne and nelson agholor. I really like these do signings. Because we'll get nelson agholor personal. Not neither of them are too expensive. For wide receivers nelson aguilar's ours is speedy deep threat. He really was published shamed of philadelphia after having to may drops he worked on that it really revived his career in las vegas. So it's good to see him in giving cam newton a speedy weapon in new england and kendrick bourne. He also showed a lot of potential in sanford. I think i could see him breaking out and potentially becoming a star in new england but nonetheless he was productive last year and we look at the receivers cameras to last year. Julian edelman was dealing with injuries. All year only played in nine games. He was just not himself other guys. Were just we're we're no names. And they were not. They're not productive. It was demure bird jakobi meyers. Mikhael harry. who's been pretty much a bust since he was drafted in new england. Mohamed mohamed sanu. They were all just unable to produce and they were unable to get true separation throughout the year for cam. Newton i think that dealing with all these different receivers and that's tough for cam when you're coming new team and you don't have that chemistry kind of built up with different guys but those are significant upgrades at these offensive positions they also upgraded at center with ted car us who had a solid season with the dolphins. That's another theme to patriots. Come taking a bunch of players from the dolphins in their division and overall these offensive. Additions are going to be huge for the development of cameroon. Moving forward now. I also wanted to get into some of the defensive upgrades they made because last year they had more than anyone on. The defense was not normal bill. Belichick defense had key players. Dont'a hightower are the best player on that defense opt-out tackle marcus cannon. I think he could thrive opposite writing. Star jesse jackson at the cornerback position. It's rough years in philly. But like i said bill better at getting maximizing. He's coming often injury but he's been as healthy and reliable as they come other than last year and he should be good to go in. Twenty twenty one. Still being able to happen now that they have all these assets. I don't think the patriots could go into free agency without a starting quarterback. Now the deal is one year around five six million which is very cheap for million cheaper than any one. i might add But like i said they couldn't go into free agency without a starting quarterback because player.
