"To promote it properly is the president of Matchroom, Eddie Hearn. Eddie, welcome to the Bloomberg Business of Sports. Thanks for having me. I'll this start one off, Michael. When it comes to setting the scene for major boxing events, the background on the fighters involved is so critical. How do you ensure that the storytelling is part of the live event? Well, the narrative of every event, every fight is built over a period of time and really the success of the show in terms of ticket sales or, you know, live viewership or subscription is built through the narrative. So that starts a long time before. You know, as a promoter you have to tell a story really. I'm a storyteller. All these stories have to unfold in so the build that -up when you come on the night those stories have been told, you know, and almost like those viewers, those spectators in the arena have already read the book. Now the in -vision experience within the arena for us is also important. So during the night we're playing a lot of that shoulder programming and we're playing a lot of those stories to just get that arena pump, live DJs, music, energy. You know, that live experience is important for the fans in the arena but it's also important for the viewers as well, watching on the zone to make sure they get that energy as well and that's our showcase as a business. You know, every time we stage a live event could be one across ten different sports that we promote. That's our product. But Eddie, isn't this more of the matchroom philosophy, right? You try to have these fights in a boxer's hometown, right? You did that with Canelo Alvarez in Guadalajara. You know, you talked a to little us bit about that methodology of doing that and what that brings to the in -person event itself. I mean, isn't it obvious? so You know, like, that's the thing that baffled me coming to America to promote was that these guys don't get built in their hometown. You know, we know that some cities will bring extra dollars to the table. Las Vegas is a great example. I mean, you know, Canelo Alvarez had to take probably a $10 million pay cut to fight in Guadalajara over doing at it the T -Mobile. But, you know, when you're building a fighter, to get that energy that we talk about, to get that passion, difficult. it's very In England, we've been doing it for years. If you're from Liverpool, you fight in Liverpool. If you're from Manchester, you fight in Manchester. If you're from Philadelphia, you don't fight in LA. How can you expect the people to find you? Yeah, but also, like last week, we're in New Orleans with Regis Progro. You know, it was his first fight there in five years. This is a world champion. It's a lot easier to sell tickets. It's a lot easier to create interest, to drive enthusiasm and atmosphere when it's your own. And that, as a viewer, you're watching this live event going, wow, this is a big event. Look at the atmosphere in there. And that's really what live sports is about. The Olympics is something that's really important to introduce fans to boxing, to the art of the game. Yeah, and also about development of the sport through grassroots and actually encouraging people to to participate in the sport. I think at the top end, at the elitist level of the sport, there's a perception that boxing is prize fighting, and it is. But also, we're big supporters and believers that actually boxing within the community changes young people's lives and their directions. It teaches them a lot of things that are missing from youth today. Discipline, respect, manners, physical activity, mental clarity, all this kind of stuff. Well, Eddie, when I think of live boxing matches, you know, I used to think of those events in Vegas, like you said, where you could never get a ticket. You couldn't hope to get a ticket. But you've promoted events in Wembley, 80 ,000 to 90 ,000 people. In Arlington, Texas, if I'm not mistaken, 73 ticket. The largest indoor boxing match ever, you know, but then you talk about having these kind of smaller local local venues. Talk to us about how the mayor of Fresno renamed October B Herndon. Well, I mean, talk to us about there's a really embarrassing story about that, actually. So I'm in Fresno and was it Mikey Garcia was fighting there. And we're up on the stage. And then, you know, one of my team come over and said, Listen, the mayor's got something for you. It's pretty big deal. And I said, What's that? You know, and they said that they want October the I think it was October 16. It was during COVID. Yeah, yeah, no, it's just coming through the back of COVID. And it's first like a sort of live event back. They want Saturday night to be Eddie Herndon. 16. So I was like, wow, they came up, they gave me a plaque. And it said October 16 in Fresno, Eddie Herndon. And I was like, I said to my team, you know, make sure you don't schedule an event on October 16 next year, because we should come back every year. And they said, No, it's just this year. It's actually just in 2021, I think it was, yeah. But, you know, I was gonna say, I've been keeping that secret. But I've just told everyone. It was only Herndon day for day. one It was a great day. What's the biggest difference from where you sit in terms of the energy between a fight that staged in a stadium with 80 ,000 90 ,000 seats versus a smaller, more intimate setting where, you know, everyone feels like maybe, you know, they're within 30, 40 feet of the actual ring? Yeah, I think that a hardcore boxing fan would always prefer that intimacy. And I'm in a bubble. I'm in my own world. So I could just be me watching these fights, you know, but like when you do 90 ,000 at Wembley or we did Dallas Cowboys, Arlington, 76 thousand, Guadalajara a couple of weeks ago, 55 ,000, you kind of look around and you just think, what is going here? on You know, it's quite a hallucinogenic experience where I think the hardcore boxing fan isn't a fan of those 80, 90 thousand because they want their own little world, you know, but as a spectacle, I mean, about when we talk growing our business, when we talk about growing the sport, those nights are our most powerful. You know, when we turn around and we say, right, tonight we're in Dallas Cowboys, you know, and I'm looking around and the images are going worldwide, you know, that's Matrim and that's Eddie Hearn and that's us continuous to put on the biggest shows globally. So that's, for us, the massive box tick, but I also do like the intimacy. I mean, Madison Square Garden is only 4 thousand. Yeah, but it's a great little, I mean, the energy is amazing. can Eddie, I just ask you, I gotta ask this question. I know I hate to get serious, but it is a question I think that's kind of relevant given the day and age we're in. You know, you got a bit of heat for Ruiz Joshua II. It took place in Saudi Arabia. I wonder if you talk could to us a little bit, you know, are there any takeaways that that left you with given what's going on? Live the NBA. It was quite challenging because it was at a time as well, I mean, we're looking back, we're talking about four years ago Yeah. Same thing, though. It was human rights, probably even more so. Absolutely. And, you know, it's difficult. I don't like to just distance boxing from other sports, but what we talked about earlier, it is prize fighting, right? And when others are there already, not to pass the buck, but when WWE are there, you know, at the time PGA were in there, you know, staging events. Formula One were doing big deals with them. I looked at it and I was like, we're guys, just staging a fight. Yeah. You know, and it's very difficult. My job is to maximise the income of fighter in a a short career and provide them with the biggest opportunities. And when I'm saying to Anthony Joshua, you've got $20 million to fight Andy Rhees at MSG or $60 million to fight him in Saudi Arabia. It's a very short conversation. And actually,

"I wouldn't have fought anyway. I'm telling you right now, this is what it is to be a calculating decision maker as a boxer and the people that control your career. So no, I wouldn't advise them to fight cater all because it's just the wrong style matchup. Go for the bigger name. Tio female Lopez, a former undisputed champion. Had all the belts, he beat the loman, chanco. He's a name. That's who you want on your resume, a former champion that's gonna still be Celtic tickets is popular and teal female, whether he still having his issues, he's still having his personal problems. Those are always gonna be their lingering. So he's gonna be there right for the picking. He's ripe for the picking. So I think Josh sailor is an incredible talent, incredible talent, and he should go after another incredible talent. That's vulnerable mentally and so yeah, that's a fight to make. You know, I somewhat disagree that TF femo is vulnerable. I think too much was made of how difficult the fight against sandor Martin was, like Tana Martin is going to be a difficult opponent for everybody. It wasn't just that it wasn't just that performance. He lost the kids. It's his personal life. Got a lot going on there. But I think he's capable of bouncing back and being an elite guy at one 40. I do. I do alleviate the goods for it. I think a Josh Taylor matchup is a lot better for him than what a Sandra Martin matcher would be. Josh Taylor at least will try to bang with him a little bit in that fight. And that's, you know, I think TFE has the size at one 40 to be able to do that. I mean, I do. Yeah, but cambos is banged with him and was able to hurt and drop. There was a lot going on to him. Well, there was going to be more. There's going to be that's exactly what I mean. There's going to be a lot of more, like he was going through a divorce at that time. He had a bad weight cut at that time, that fight had been postponed like three times. That doesn't excuse anything. He lost fair and square in that fight. But I think he's going to, I think taya fimo, if he's an underdog in that fight, and he probably will be, I think he's a very live underdog in that fight. But to the point of the question, I do agree with you. I think this is the right move. To fight Jack katara again, was for ego, right? And you know it was because he dropped all the other belts. Yeah. Just so he could be in a position to defend a title against Jack Adderall. So with teo female on the table, it's a bigger money fight. It's a more relevant fight and it's a better fight for him to potentially win if they fight in June. I feel for Jack casserole, but you know this was around social media. I think Jack haddal could put it together and fight, Regis prograde. That's a good fight for Jack. I don't think pro grade will face the man. Backs off on cataract and protocol attack. I don't think he will, but programs are begging for a fight. Too smart. He's way too smart to take that fight. You think Jack had a role as Muhammad Ali, what are we talking about? I think he's too much risk. What's the reward and beating cataract? You fight. And it's a marketable fight in the UK. Who's been saying busy? Program's been saying business. He has nobody can fight. He is manager. I haven't had a man. Stay busy, get paid. How? Big names. It doesn't matter. It does matter. You don't get paid to fight just anybody. Anyone in the top 15. You want to pull up the top 15 rankings for, yes, please. The WBC. And I'll tell you right now, please. You have to make her. So you think, all right, we'll do this right now. It shouldn't be cad or I'll tell you that. A short, strong southpaw that's confident and he's just waiting for that phone call to fight a big name and strike again. It's just like he saw Cruz. After he tank Davis, why is nobody calling me? People did. Of course, Stephenson asked to fight him. Yes, he did. Yes, he did. Of course, he was one of the crew said no. Like, all right, that pit bull has been passing on some fights in the last that doesn't take away from the fact that he's a good fighter. He did. So, of course, Stevenson was publicly calling him out. Everyone's avoiding Stevenson. They're speaking two different things. We just program is number one. The WBC champion, right? So you go down the list. You got taffy ma Lopez. He didn't want that fight. Sandra Martin, you want taffy, you want to fight Santa Martina gonna be the next guy? No, get in the ring with Santa Martin. No. You got Gary Antoine Russell. Who knows no one knows? No idea there. Jose zapata, we've gone down that road before. Sergey lippin yes. Oh, there you go. How about that? José Ramírez didn't want it, Ryan García's on the list. Arnold Barbosa, that's not bad. Those are the good fight, but I rather take lip knits. It has more experience with the bigger names. You know, he's been in there with what Mikey Garcia. So it doesn't matter if you got knocked out by Mikey Garcia. He fought a four division world champion, so being able to beat a name like that. That makes sense. Steve spark? No. He thinks Steve sparks great because what's his name, Montana, love through him on the ring through him off the ring, but now I don't like that fight. Brett and Lee on that list. We're back at the bottom half the top 15. The point is if you think Jack Jack hadal is a good fighter, not a great fighter. And if there's money on the table to fight Jack Adderall and defend your title, you do it. You do it. Why wouldn't you? Because it's a wrong style matchup. I'd rather WBC would rather fire all ranked. How is that possible? Fight a snooze fest against a nobody. You don't get paid for those fights. Regis program has no promoter. I know he doesn't, and that means more money in his pocket. He said, he's still making a lot of money. Would you like to FaceTime Sam cajkovsky in here? Or he just programs manager and ask him if there's a lot of money out there for Regis right now. It's not. It doesn't take away from what he is, but there's not a lot of money out there for him because guys don't want to fight him. José Ramírez said, nope, I'm going to go fight Richard Comey. Tampa, I'm a Lopez, said, nope, I'm going to go fight Josh Taylor. You got to go down the list to find guys willing to fight, Regis pro gray. Is that much of a beast, man? I mean, that's why you got to fight cataract. If there's money in the UK to fight, if you take it, we're just probably going to be the favorite against caterer, you know, that Regis might be the best guy I want to. Yeah, but then he's going to give up, first of all, he's going to be fighting another southpaw and that's difficult. And then you're fighting a Brit in oh man, I don't know. I just think there's better options. He should stay in the U.S., keep doing what he's doing. He fights whoever they put in front of him, so whoever they put in front of them here in his home country, I think that's what you should do. Look, I'd love to see it. I don't think there's any money for it. Like maybe in a cataract to fight in the U.S., I don't know if you can do that. There you go. So you do it in the U.S. because then at least you would have some judging in your favor. If you go, if you go to the UK or anywhere in the UK, you're going to have the fans against you and you know they're rabid fans. They come out in the tens of thousands. Every punch is going to be a new one at all. So you have the fans against you, then you're going to have to judges against you and the referee against you too much too many cards stacked against you. So yeah, if is willing to come over here, then that's a different story. All right, you're back to work this weekend. Is that what I understand? Absolutely. We're calling the fight on Saturday. Thank you. God, it's not with you. Thank God. It's Corey yardman, a better writer, a better reporter, and a better commentator than you. Shout out Cori urban and I'll see you Saturday, baby. That's just mean. You're a mean. We're partners. We're broadcast buddies. They pay me to work with you, my friend. They pay me and you pay me to be here. That's the only reason I'm here. "Daphne mo Lopez is the former 135 pound champion. He is now one and O at a 140 pounds and will go for his second straight win on Saturday when he takes on Sandra Martin at the theater at Madison Square Garden. That's a fight you could watch on ESPN immediately after the Heisman ceremony and to femo is back on the show. So damn, will you just tell him you're feeling pretty good right now, headed at this fight? I am. I am, man. I'm truly excited about this upcoming fight against senator Martin. You know, he has definitely the skill sets to give me a tough fight and I'm looking forward to really challenging myself, come December 10th. So why are you excited about this particular fight? Well, this was the fight that we wanted at the time because everyone else was occupied with other dance partners. You know, and you know, so this was the best opportunity. You know, this is somebody that definitely came out of a, you know, he pulled a big upset, you know, he kind of disrupted it a little bit of the boxing game and you know this guy came out of the blue. You know, he decorated fighter. One of the best Mexican fighters that we've seen of this era Mikey Garcia for divisional champion. And you know, he did what he had to do. So I think this is a great great step up. I'm glad that things turned out the way it did. And you know, we wish nothing but the best for Jose pedraza. We wish him health. You know, we understand he had non COVID symptoms, but this was the guy that we originally wanted, and we got him. Yeah, I was at that fight in Fresno when Martin beat Mikey Garcia and that was a shocking and upset as I've seen in a while.

"Sometimes you can't. Sometimes the training can't fix it. Like I said, but the mental thing a man training could probably be talking through, but you have to want you feel that you can get through it. That's nothing, Jake. We actually, when you make that point, make that statement, we actually haven't seen still to this day a point where Joshua gets hurt again and how he recovers from it. Usually when he gets hurt, the beginning of the end. I mean, with the cliffs going quite happened to happen, when it did, but you know, he did get together with someone, but like since then, you know, with the Android situation, it's like one of those things that you see a little bit more cautious now and he actually tries to box, but it just doesn't, he just comes off real stiff and robotic at times. Instead of when he was out there taking chances and throwing with them, you know, the bigger guys than the bigger than him in one place. You don't want to use throwing exchanges with guys beginning to him. And you know, and he felt he felt confident about it. But now it was more like he trying to be more strategic. In fact, but it just doesn't come off right. He can't outbox Alexander usuk. Usuk is not Andy Ruiz. He's not going to come in out of shape. He's not going to come in unprepared. He's not going to celebrate his victory. Hell, the guy spent part of his victory in the Ukraine, helping to protect his war torn country. So he's, he's going to be focused for this fight. And I think it is, this fight's going to be one or lost between Anthony Joshua's ears right there. He's got to be willing to engage in trench warfare to use a phrase. To win a fight like this. All right, also this week, Mikey Garcia quietly announced his retirement as only Mikey Garcia would on Instagram. Mikey has not fought since an upset loss to sandor Martin last October at 34. Mikey walks away a four division world champion with a 40 and two record. Here's his brother and trainer Robert on Mikey's retirement. If he doesn't have the hunger to it and he doesn't have the love for the sport anymore, definitely not because I don't want him to get hurt, you know, I don't want to just go out and pick a fight and get hurt. If he doesn't have the love for the sport, can he still do it? Yes, but if he doesn't have the love for the sport, no, I'm a 100% with his retirement. I'm really, really happy that he made that decision. Jamel, you recently decided to step away from boxing. What did you think of Mikey's decision to walk away? If you compare this kid's career, Mikey's done a lot. I mean, he can actually look back on his career and be happy with all he's accomplished. So kudos to him. And like I said, it was definitely surprising the way he did it. You know? You had to go through yet a year ago doing the profile page and then to see what he was feeling, but I don't think anyone will, you know, a bad eye I think anything of it. Like I said, Mikey Garcia..

"All right, I am here with a guy that is literally willing to fight anybody. Regis bro gray, former 140 pound title champ. We were talking just before we started recording read just about how anytime there's a big fight available. Guys between one 40, one 47, you've got your hand up on social media, to whoever needs to hear it. You've told them you are ready to fight. Yes. I'm ready to fight anybody. You know I'm always training the thing. You can see you can't see my people. You can listen to my voice, but you can't see my face. But I have a little stuff on my nose right now because I sport on Thursday so I'm always training always in the gym always ready. And there's this frustrating, you know, 'cause I had so many, all these big fights, you know, come up, but it just never came to fruition. Basically, you know, it was the mic and go see it. That fell through. My agent Ronald Davis. Mario barrios doing all those spices, you know, was my name was supposed to what's thrown around in nothing ever happened. So it's just like, it's just very funny. You know, we were talking about you during the Mikey Garcia fight where he lost to sando Martine, where he wasn't in great shape for that fight. He didn't take sando Martinez serious I think he should have. What were you thinking? Kind of watching the guy that you were close to having a deal with and probably maybe still will have a fight against going and losing like that. It was very frustrating because I mean, I know, listen, I know Mikey, you know, me and Mikey was on FaceTime together. We was like, he was saying he wants to fight me. You know, and but of course you want to get his tune up, and that's why he fought the left hander in Martin, but then he ended up losing. And so it was just like, I think for me, I was the biggest loser that night. You know what agree? I think that was the biggest loser for sure because you know I definitely think that I would have destroyed Mikey that night for sure. You know, Mikey's, I think Mike is a great fighter, but that night he just he looked shocked, you know? And you don't know if that's if that's gonna be him for the rest of his career or it's just that night because you know sometimes in boxing, you know, people would say, that's it. That fight is done. That's it, you know, because sometimes people that's just how it is in boxing. It's a cruel sport. But a lot of greats came back. My favorite fight ever is The Rain. And he kept doing he kept coming back even like sugary Linda. They kept coming back, you know, so maybe Mikey can come back or maybe he has done. You know, we don't know. We'll see in his next fight and with his next move is gonna be. At what point during that fight, are you saying like, holy shit, something is happening here? Because I remember watching early, I'm like, all right, Martin's having some success. He had to be he had to keep moving. And I wasn't sure if he was going to be able to do that over ten rounds..

"Of the year depending on what you like, Gabe risotto's winner of a bacterium le cozy of was right up there, but George Campbell's going into Madison Square Garden and beating Teófimo López by decision. That was that was huge, man. Like give me your kind of now that a few days away from that fight, give me your takeaways from it. Cambos is junior comes from Spartan lineage, right? And he's very proud of that. He came out with the Spartan trunks and everything. And he came. He saw he conquered in the backyard of the undisputed champion of the world now undisputed. Let's not get into the politics of it. He took all the belts. He took all the belts in the fighters hometown home state. It was incredible because he said he was, he said exactly what he was going to do and he had a face adversity to do it. We know what your female is. He's a beast. He's a business and he came out like a beast. So for him to be prepared for those early rounds that early onslaught feel the power, get dropped. I think it was a tenth round, right before the championship rounds and react like a champion in a fight that you're winning normally you coast at that time. No, not George Kim bosses. It was a hell of a fight, and if it's not, if it's not fight of the year, I don't know what else will because this is for all the belts and it just made sense for everything. You can check every box. You know incredible fight. Back in February of 2020, Tyson Fury before he fought Deontay Wilder the second time, told us exactly how he was going to fight him. He said, I'm going to take the fight to Deonte wilder. I want to bully him and I'm going to knock him out. Nobody believed him then. And that's exactly what he did in that fight in February of 2020. I bring that up because in the days before Cambodia's fought to FML Lopez, what did he do? He told us over and over again exactly what he was going to do. When I suggest to him that maybe boxing a little and getting out of his first few rounds was the way to go, kind of scoff. He's like, no, I'm going to take the fight to him. I'm going to knock him down in that first round. That's exactly what he did. Like very rarely Sergio, do we see a guy able to back up his words in the way that cambos did? The last time I remember send or Martin the guy that upset Mikey Garcia and he was equally as confident equally as you know he walked into the room with swag and he knows that he's unbeaten and untested and everyone's laughing at a more scoffing at him like you said. This was a sandor Martin type performance, but on the undisputed level on the big stage. I think that's a big upset. Oh yeah. By far, by far, definitely, because Mikey Garcia had an activity. I mean, both of them had inactivity, but I just think this was different. It was on a different level. You're in the Mecca of boxing. You're in New York City. I mean, everything was there for the perfect experience for TO Lopez that continue everything that he did..

"Say he does wind up fighting regis pro or someone else you know comparable to regis pro-gay how do you go to the negotiating table and start making all kinds of demands. When in your last fight he lost seven rounds to a guy who was twenty to one. Underdog you really can't so in some ways. Whether he asked to take a financial hit to do it is sort of irrelevant that he needs to go clean up his mess. But to your point who's paying for it because it's not like if zome comes in and pays sander martine. Whatever he's looking for even if mike garcia does it on the cheap it would still be a relatively expensive fight got paid one point five million for that last night it became anywhere near there for a rematch right and also to your point. Chris was not an entertaining fight. And that may be mostly. Because mike you didn't i didn't think really turned up In the second half of the fight and fight with a sense of urgency. But you'll maybe the rematch would be different. But i do think that if he's going to go into bigger fights now look he. He could wind up fighting. High level guys without fighting sandra martine but he would have to significantly adjust his asking prices for those fights. Because because frankly. You can't pretend that it didn't happen happened. We all saw it and it was one of the biggest upsets in in recent history as it was right. not from a from a magnitude standpoint. Certainly but andy. Reid was twenty to one underdog. Roughly i mean. I think maybe josh was like a twenty two to one favored or so going into the into that fight. I mean it's on that level in terms of Of course and reid with more established and you could argue that. Maybe he beat. Joseph parkin was undefeated but yeah interviewees at world level before santa martine had forgotten one at the world level. His best win was probably k. Prosper in his previous point. And i think that might have benefited. Santa martina said this on the air. Like the activity of martine over the last twelve months. He had fought twice. Where mikey garcia. Not fun at all released february of twenty twenty and he looked like the sharper fighter out there for for whatever that's worth all right. Let's move on to the real action on last saturday night which came outside the ring between a definitely not staged and completely organic interaction between devon haney and taffy lopez. Evan haney match rooms. One hundred and thirty five pound titleholder lopez will fight for our under. Eddie.

"Blame them for that. Because you could certainly argue that. He didn't belong in the ring with aerospace junior. To begin with again was paid a lot of money for the for the trouble of course but the difference. Here of course is that sandra martine is not a welterweight either and he certainly not anywhere near as good as earl spence was at the time when he fought. Mikey garcia So yeah he's not a welterweight. I i don't i think is best wait now. Of course it'd be one hundred and forty pounds. But i again. I was troubled by his body language by the way he kind of just went through the motions and my opinion for a lot of that fight. Maybe maybe he doesn't want to fight anymore for to you know he's going to do it because it's going to be paid a lot of money to do it but i don't know maybe and i'm not i don't know any i don't have any inside knowledge of this In terms of how he feels about moving forward with his career but he just there just didn't seem to be that hunger in mikey garcia that we had previously seen because chris as you well know murky garcia was not supposed to become what he became. Robert robert garcia was the fighter in the family back when his dad restraining. Fernando vargas and. They didn't mikey didn't think he was going to become what he became boxing. So it's a an incredible success story. And mike is a very humble guy and likable guy and everything. But i just wonder where he goes from here. Because now he's got up for a rematch with sandra martine. Which he had no way is guaranteed. And frankly if i'm sandra martine i would prefer to go fight someone else and make a lot of money. Maybe try to get a title shot which he seemingly would've earned by beating. Mikey garcia so. That's not going to be easy. To get sandra martine back in the ring with him again and again he he should not have been in the ring with him to begin with probably right. I mean a credit to san martine for rising to the occasion and changing his life and his career and everything. But no.

"Title fight. Know keith much to your surprise. I'm not there. I may have intimated. I was planning on going but Life just keeps getting in the way. Keith just keeps getting in the way well what i do know is that they have a sticker with your name on it all night as i said the The bat signal up to evan corn with top rank and say one mowing down. We're going to get into stevenson herring. Interesting weigh in on thursday or around the press conference on thursday between stevenson harry. It's terrific fight. We'll talk more about it. I want to begin the show though keith looking back to last weekend mikey garcia four division world champion a guy that for know. Many of the last few years has been either on or around a pound for pound list. He was coming off a twenty month. Layoff taking a up fight. He was facing sandra. Martine who had never fought at the world level had a couple of losses to mid level fighters on his resume. A lot of people myself included believed this would be easy. Work for mikey garcia. But over ten rounds he was completely outboxed. He won a majority decision. It should have been a unanimous decision. He was soundly beaten by sando martine which raises the question. What is the future of. Mikey garcia. Was it an off night or was it a sign that a thirty three year old fighter is starting to slow down. So give me your reaction to what you saw from. Mikey garcia yeah he. He looked sluggish to me. Chris i mean i don't know if it was You know maybe didn't have the best camp he didn't say that but he just looked sluggish. Lethargic might be the right word. And i gotta be honest. I mean i. I would have preferred to see a much much greater sense of urgency for mikey garcia in the second half of that fight because he had to know and his brother is a very smart boxing guy they had to know he was losing rounds in that fight despite what he told you in.

"His rank. He would in a way that would affect his performance so honestly completely irrelevant. Brilliant for the fire and the build up in the pipe number and to get canal Even more for it. If he wasn't already which he is. But i'll just i'll never seen him rattled. You know remember the stuff. Saunders about the ring and stuff like that and just kind of sit down with him and just couldn't believe how placid and calm this guy was underneath everything and he will be super calm guiding their against does i mean when galop skin enables sanchez. Went after him but the drug stuff before the second fight. It seemed like that fueled something. Cannella did not just win. Beat him a little. I think he feels that wagon. Ben height it plan but it will never affect the performance right lucky fought and fought betcha and fought more aggressively but he so placid in respective the game plan or needs to do he so comfortable in the ring and that such a massive advantage of other foxes because when they get in there against another alvarez that frantic and he saw how calm and he's always in control of his mind and what he's doing ring and that's what makes a great foster as well and he just he doesn't see anyway they can be beat on november six. We finished with the reason. Why we're here. Mikey garcia again. Sandra martine mikey is four division world champion. But he's gonna be a big favourite when he steps into the ring against martin. This is i mean based on what you've said this is not the fights fights you want to be consistently putting on heavy favorites against underdogs. What's the strategy behind bringing. Mikey back for a fight like this. And what are your hopes for. A relation with muggy garcia movie flopping. When you've been at the ring for walk you know over eighteen months. It's difficult to come back. I mean we were quite close to looking at the regis programme fought. I think that fought can be reignited. A might for early next year. But alexandra martin a guy who is headline the number of events for us in spine on the zone. Good flights at european champion fifteen with most governing bodies just a standard fight. You know. I think mikey garcia is afford division world champion. A huge star. The doesn't have to be in fifty fifty wars especially when he'd been at the ring for a year and a half. So this fight own showcase. Because i think that's a fair to send or martin about. It's a chance for him to really get rid of the rust. Mike statement that he's still there. He's still relevant scars. Huge store and bought away annot sendo maltese. A huge underdog by he's really outfits like him and his family. They've come here. They look at mikey garcia. And they go. Sometimes you have to convince yourself on you. The older reasons why you might weed when you watch big underdog and those reasons are how for is marquis garcia. Where is he in. his career is for for money. Izzy rusty is he. You know all these different things. Maltese got good. Movement is actually intelligent pfizer..

Welcome back first of all. thank you. thank you Yeah it's been interesting time. See a lot of people just assume that we've decided to focus attention on the uk market and designed but couldn't be further. Y you know. Obviously we had that period where there was uncertainty regarding connecticut alvarez and that kind of hope to the schedule but we're back now with monkey garcia this weekend and you know it's no secret obviously oh seven ounce dmitri's on dryden a quadruple championship votaw to head and then odor lightweights and finishing the year on design. So i think it's the strongest schedule we've had to close out the for a long time and looking forward to getting all of those announced. I wanna get to those in a second. But i wanna ask you. What was it like for you to watch the fury wilder fight from the perspective of close to having. Aj fury done over the summer. Aj lose the ucla. Fury has career defining performance in a fight. "Unfortunately for you. I don't think we'll need to know how to pronounce it after october sixteenth. But that's the best you can do over a four five months period. You're going to have to do better. we people were expecting the third chocolate tito. Juan francisco stratified october sixteenth. Now chocolate tito has copeland nineteen. So it's going to get pushed back november. That's an excellent fight off. They're gonna if they're gonna remain business. Zone is gonna remain in business with devon haney. Hopefully they'll get him into another fight although he's a free agent so to speak in can while he's overpricing himself in many different fight negotiations If he comes back he's a good fighter dimitrius android in there with the right opponent. I think people will be interested in seeing but But if mikey garcia in a tuneup fight is your only. Us fight in four or five months. That's just not enough. If you're a subscriber. I thought over the summer keep golden. Boy did a pretty nice job of of giving them something right. Sorry let me let me apologize completely. Forgot because the joe dias right against hobby. That was a good car now and fight and they put a good replacement opponent in there for ryan garcia. So i that that actually was a good show unfortunately. And yeah the the virgil ortiz in there with coupla excellent. I thought that was another burglar who has the as maybe not the biggest star in boxing as a potential to be a really really top fighter in boxing. Thought that game a little bit. Now we get into the fall. And i look. I think there's a lot of pressure. On eddie hearn to start making big. Us flights he's got a stable of fighters that need to get out. You mentioned some of them to meet your andrey has got to get out. Before the end of the i hear from people at dimitrius esteem harassing me. If i know what's what kind of going on with his next fight you've got as you said devon haney you've got guys that are world championship level guys gotta get out gotta get out in the right fights. I'm pretty disappointed that we could. We didn't get a monkey. Garcia regis program fight put together. I don't know why that that fell apart. But that would have been guys every boxing fan out there would have wanted to see. Mikey gets regis. You're doing like the dallas area. He gets some regis fans louisiana yet. Mikey's fans from it was done well in texas. That would have been an excellent point but those are the type of fights. Eddie harness gotta stop putting together. While the thing is chris. I turned fifty last week. So maybe i'm starting to lose my memory a little bit memory enhancers but but the virgil ortiz. Fight on a night when there were two other cards on. Espn and showtime was clearly the best fighter the night a great performance from virgil ortiz. Knocked out kavaliauskas after getting buzzed earlier in the fight So there were two two car to golden boy cards with an basically a one month span there five weeks fan. "But that is always in the back of my mind as it pertains to canelo. Alvarez is career whether you think that's fair or not that's you're entitled to your opinion. Opinions vary by. Terence crawford is never tested positive for. Pd's right right now earl. Spencer hasn't neo. New way has not all the guys toward the top of the pound for pound list. So i'm not saying that he doesn't have a great resume and he's not a great fighter he clearly does he clearly is but that stains his legacy. In my opinion. You know that when you know camello is going to be seething over that because that when you get to fight week november by that's what people are going to be talking about maybe be asking. And we know reacted when kinetic lofton and his team when after him over that. That's gonna make a very interesting week in las vegas in november. Couple things when he with or alleged. Go sitting here in boston. Keith microphone in my hand No microphone ring. Cycles is no zone schedule. That's if you had her right now. Maybe we get a mikey garcia. At some point in october i think eventually they'll put chocolate petito and estrada together For the zone at earned. But it's been kinda quiet on the zone front. They have clearly emphasized what they are doing over in the uk that's understandable. The uk is a huge boxing market. They wanna have a foothold there now that they are the exclusive provider for mattress shows. But you know. I'll i'll handed off to you. What do you make heath on. The outside of how disown is operating in the us on getting some more time off. Let's just say because you deserve it. However if i were zone school now i am a zone subscriber but by com. Cbs pays for my subscription. Because it's necessary to do my job and all that so i don't it doesn't come out of my pocket. I guess is my point. If it came out of my pocket and i was paying the grandfather monthly rate of nine ninety nine or certainly nineteen ninety nine. I probably would have canceled at this point because there are some good uk fights on there. I mean fights that are that are interesting. And if you're a real hardcore boxing fan you want you know you wanted to see the josh. Warrington larry rematch. Yes sure but that can't be all that you're getting right. I mean from a us perspective. You wanna see more fights and they haven't done a lot of fights since Since devon haney and or hey lenore which turned out to be an intriguing fight. Because the nour's heard him in tenth around and all that stuff but there hasn't been a whole lot to talk about in terms of the us schedule or hasn't been anything really talk about in terms of us. Boxing and i would say it would be a concern if i were a boxing fan. Who wanted to invest in subscribing to zone moving forward because our friend. Mike carpenter reported. I think it was this morning or yesterday But he he said that he is. He has been told that Mikey garcia is gonna fight sand or martina believe it sounded pronounced. "Dot com was actually sitting right next to for the for the fight over the weekend AT T Mobile Arena, I felt like it was a historic night for sure, because I'm not sure many packages going to get back in the ring. Let's talk a little bit about that. So many peculiar made some statements and and Cassandra I've said nothing but good things about Manny Pac. Yeah. His philanthropy that just how much the heart he has and what he cares about his people, and I do believe next month, he's going to be announcing his run for president of the Philippines before we get to that. I have one main criticism from any pack. Yeah. And I'm going to give about 25% of it. Unpack y'all. I'm gonna give 75% of it on Floyd Mayweather you alluded to while these fights should have happened 10 years ago and talking to the Ortiz fight, I thought the peculiar Mayweather fight was a disgrace. It was a It was a joke of a fight. I blame both fighters. I blame Mother Mayweather little bit more. But, you know, I feel like Pacquiao could have done more to make that fight happened and he didn't. And then after the fight, you know, he blames his shoulder. And even if that is the case that he was injured, shouldn't have talked about it after the fight. If that was the case, you should have postponed the fight three or four months and be healthy and give a better fight to the fans. I thought that was my to me. That is my biggest criticism of his professional career. Do you agree with that? Um yes. And now when you look at the fight of a Mayweather, magnitude and all the money that was on the table, um he had to. He had to show up. You know, one shoulder or not, to or not? He had to show up. So, um, and everybody I've never met a fighter who is not fighting injured. They all are fighting injured. They all hurt and in some way or another, we just happened to hear about Manny. All right, Fair. Fair enough. Let's talk about the good and Manny and there's a lot of it. Quite frankly, If he was running for president in this country, I would vote for him. The guy cared so much about his people. He saved lives. And he said after the fight, and clearly this has been on his mind, and maybe that's a small factor in why he lost the fight. I don't know. But clearly his number one priority. Besides, his family is beautiful Wife and his kids. His number one priority is his people in the Philippines, and he said it after the fight. He wants to help the people and what a gracious man and I believe him as being so genuine. He cares so much about his people, by the way, is also a Boston Celtic fan. I grew up a Celtics fan. So me and Manny, that's about the only thing. Well, that's about the only thing me and Mandy have in common. I'll tell you that, But what do you make of this man? Obviously Hall of Fame fighter. I don't think he'll be back in the ring again. I guess that's my first question for you. Then my second question is Do you see him as being the next president of the Philippines as President Pacquiao Well for him to go back in the ring again and make yourself Manny is not a mail it in kind of fighter. He's not going to put somebody on the schedule just to get a win. Not now, so he's going to have to fight fighters of stature. Individuals who have Championships. So who could that be? Karen's Crawford. Harold Pence. Um, you know, those are guys who are going to be significant. Physical impediments for Manny Pacquiao to actually win And even like the second tier guys, these younger ones coming up boots in it. Burger Ortiz. Um, I would I would think of that crop. Maybe Mark Mikey Garcia. Could be a logical match up if he wants to come back at 1 47 1 40. If you go down you got Josh Taylor. Jose Progres. So who did he fight? It becomes back. Well, we're looking for a win. Where does Las Vegas native local and up and coming boxer Devin Haney fit in the conversation. Um Devin at well, Gavin. Still at what one is that one? I'm not even at 1 40. So Manny goes down three weight classes to to meet Devin Haney. I don't think that's the fight to make..

A spokesman for you even said last month that you would probably do that. Do you plan on doing that. And i put it so if anything can happen but Right now i'm focused on Only one after that we can talk about politics. What are the best in. Worst parts about being politician. The best it's Happy helping people and the People that Trying to ruin your name and make a public story to You know they're pulling you down. You've seen some of the nasty side of politics over the last year. What's that been like this Either people that trying to make a property story to put down and grab you down. But it's nice you're in the right path but they think the people fighting for people. Then you have nothing to worry about you ready for it maybe to get even nastier as your political career. Goes forward I fighter outside. I didn't i inside and outside. Doing oh and i will have to be fighter. I want to ask you about you.
