New restrictions in Santa Clara force 49ers to practice and play elsewhere

"Look at. What's going on with the san francisco. Forty niners all right. They're not san francisco there. Santa clara and santa clara county has decided in their infinite wisdom out there in california where you know they get hit with coconuts on the head. I think that they're no longer going to allow contact. Sports take place over the next three weeks which includes two forty nine or home games which also includes them practicing now. The forty niners had no idea about this until they landed in l. a. to play the rams yesterday and by the way. The rams did that call shannon's pretty good coat. I can't figure those rams out. Nick mullins man we're team what's diaz Deebo samuel samya so anyway day now are nomad team. And i think they're probably going to go to arizona to be able to go into their own separate bubble now because of santa clara county who they don't really get along with anyway because there's arguments over the stadium and who's paying what and everything else idiots okay the. Nfl is controlling this whole thing which they have. No no no no no no no no. We're talking about can't control even finish my sentence if the nfl is controlling the whole covid situation. And they've got their own protocols and everything else why the hell does the county have to come in and stop this thing because they're moroney politicians that's why don't you understand way to make it difficult for the team that is trying to play games. During season pay taxes in your county withdrew its players and through. Whatever else means. They're making any sort of money so california. What's the advantage here for these. These moron politicians that you say got hit in the head with coconuts i have. I have no idea what the advantage is gonna be seinfeld. I don't live in california. it's the most beautiful state in the union. And it's run by a bunch of morons. But i have no idea what the tell you. Why would they do. Why i guess you know. And there's also friction between the team and the county and i know why they're there. I understand why they're doing it because they want to stem the tide of the virus. Meanwhile the virus has been growing out there like crazy no matter what they do. Why is there friction between an nfl team in the county because of the money that i'm sure the county has to pay to the nfl team. In order to build a stadium there. I know that hamilton county. Cincinnati hamilton county and cincinnati. Gave the bengals everything they wanted to stay in cincinnati. If you remember. Mike brown the owner of the bengals visited baltimore before the browns visited baltimore to kind of like shake things up in the county that is hamilton county cincinnati. You know the kind of leverage the ability to move to another city to get what they wanted from the city of cincinnati or the county of hamilton. And if you remember santa clara county was being used against san francisco candlestick park was and everything else in the leverage and where we move into and all this other stuff and county politics and it's tax subsidies for billionaires which socks i understand that but they built the stadium i feel is gonna tell pro football team. Who has a yen that they have to play under these strict protocols that they can't play in their own stadium. Because you're just being putz a yeah. I don't think this is gonna stick. I bet you we get some news in the next couple of days and they change their mind on this. That's what i call shanahan. Basically look we we get la and the first question that is being asked of me by sixty men on my team are what are we doing. I got families. We got families in santa clara. We got we lived there. Were you know we should we. We moving somewhere going somewhere for the month of december by the way the month december. What does it include christmas. I mean so. This is like they're gonna change takes up. They're going to change. It doesn't make any sense either the fact that. There's no other reason for them to be doing this. And how do you think they're going to change. Clara county felt last year when their san francisco forty niners will come to the super bowl probably rolling in it. They loved it right. Oh my goodness politicians put on there. george kittle jerseys. And they were all touching each other at cutler. Couldn't wait to go to games or couldn't wait to be seen. They couldn't wait to all the crap but now now here you are a year later and now you would've thought they would. They would come out with something that said. Look if you are. If you're protecting high schools and colleges all right. i understand that you know. Those players do not have unions protecting their back by wednesday. It'll be done. you think so. Just like that someone's gotta gotta wipe it away it's gonna wipe it away this enough of this so bad i what happens if governor murphy does that the jets and the giants not gonna this. This thing is not going to go or or governor cuomo decides to issue a decree says the buffalo bills can't play football in the same right. He's not doing all really he's not doing it. He's not doing at governor. Murphy's not doing it in the santa clara things not going to happen. Watch watch by wednesday. It'll be over. Maybe by today is just too stupid. There's certain things are stupid. They just can't survive really can't it's got no likes. Maybe we're stupid. We're not stupid makes no sense. This thing is so stupid. it's got no legs now. If you would've told me it goes nano. Legs guys got legs. It has no last legs. If you wanna told me there was a legitimate reason why they were doing this. Outside of their own pettiness. They are trying to style the virus. This is not going to single handedly. Defeat corona virus. If they go practice arizona go go tell. A politician was to tell you how to live. Your life have what to do how they're going to get rid of this. They're going to do it. They've been they've california's been shut down literally since the beginning of all this and they still have rising cases so what could is the shutdown doing. Yeah i mean it doesn't seem like it's working. I just think that this is the forty niners. Somebody's jerry rice gonna make a phone call somebody who send just signed helmet reverse happening. Remember when the blasi was getting involved. With steve cohen. All took a little bit of this little fourteen. You need over here. You want this thing to be. Take this that that's all it's going to be someone. Call up joe montana jerry. Rice somebody will call up. And then they'll pay seventy eight is a pay off your right yeah yeah yes bloodsucking criminal. This is what you get that. That's what happened. It always happens that way.

Cryptocurrency and Domains: Real Estate in Cyber Space

"Was listening. Talk about domain. That how you view them as as real estate in cyberspace almost as well as a fixed asset like you find correlations. They're not to get to deviated from cutting your story but like when you look at bitcoin you see any parallels domains or about digital scarcity only one person can own the word voice on the dot com network so the dot com is like the main chain dot. Edu a secondary chain dot io or or dot org. These are all secondary change but the dot com was the primary domain chain. Only one person own voice. One person can own strategy or wisdom or mike or michael and early on. I was very obvious to me that if you owned domain that people understood that they could spell that they could type. That was a much better idea than having the company which is hard to spell and hard to type like imagine. Misspelling a word today as the name of your company it used to be marketing. Guys would say misspell the word. So it's unique but if you try to type a misspelled word into your browser. The spell checker corrects it. So you gotta like a won't correct voice won't correct mike and it won't correct strategy but it will correct strategy with two is and so you can't name. Your company's strategy with two is a why because you can't type it into the browser. It was very obvious to me back. Then that only one person could own the word wisdom on the dot com work. I and they were dirt cheap so i thought i mean not. I couldn't buy from nineteen bucks. But i could buy it for one hundred thousand dollars and if you had one hundred thousand dollars lying around you could buy the word wisdom well. How many people know demeans couple of billion how many people have been taught for eighteen years to the meaning of wisdom and how to spell with them. So you're talking about there must be two three four billion people on the planet that actually know how to find you. If you're sitting on the wisdom domain so so that was the idea behind domain scarcity relates to bitcoin because bitcoin is about digital scarcity all crypto so bitcoin is the main chain dominant chain. I mean there's a theory and then there's car donna and there's llosa and everything else that falls off it's not unlike dot com is the dot. Edu is dot io is the dot. Tv walk clearly. You want to be on the main chain if you can and you want to own scarcity and so i got excited about it back then. Here's what i thought like. If you have the word voice for the next thousand years voices going to mean voice in the english language and if there's ten billion human beings to learn how to speak english even if they spread all the way across the stars voice is going to be voice. And what's what's great about a brand well if you name your company or your product that thing and if a billion people can hear it in one second remember it spell it type it find it valuable. I mean that's worth a billion dollars to own tone a fundamental word on the main chain. So that's why. I bought them and held them. And eventually i sold voice for thirty million dollars last year. I didn't want to but it's the highest quality ears right. Yeah i did. It's the highest price. Anybody ever paid for naked domain. And i kind of wanted just to create a comp and the market so people would realize these things are valuable so the next one goes for one hundred million and the next one goes for five hundred million and the next goes for a billion. But you're talking about owning the english language. What's that worth just like. Bitcoin is about owning one. Twenty one millionth of everything. There's ever going to be like what's that worth right. If more than twenty one million millionaires. Everyone can own a bitcoin right. The only issue is is is dot com the main chain and is bitcoin. The main blockchain right. And what makes it the main one. Well at the fact that everybody uses it. What makes it the main one. And so of a billion people go there first and if they end their conditioned goes to google dot com amazon dot com apple dot com facebookcom numbers going to facebook dot tv so so once you get hundreds of billions or trillions of interactions on a main chain it becomes dominant and that becomes a dominant network. And so i got into that.

Wisconsin recount confirms Biden's win over Trump

"Wisconsin's two largest counties completed ballot recounts today, confirming President elect Joe Biden's win by some 20,000 votes there, and Sarah Schneider of member station W. E s a reports Pennsylvania's Supreme Court has thrown out a lawsuit that sought to declare millions of mail in ballots in the state unconstitutional. Republican Congressman Mike Kelly and Sean Parnell, a Republican who led an unsuccessful bid to unseat US representative Connor Lamb were among the plaintiffs. The suit cited issues with law enacted a year ago that let Pennsylvanians vote by mail without an excuse. The state Supreme Court dismissed the case because they say the suit wasn't filed in a timely manner. Days ago, the Republican State Court judge handling the case agreed to halt further certification of the vote count. Governor Tom Wolfe and Secretary of State Kathy Book far appealed to the state Supreme Court, saying the suit could interfere with the state's ceding its electors

Miami Restaurant Owner Asks What Plants Are Best In Outdoor Dining Spaces

"And Mike, This question comes from Carrie Colin of Miami, and here we go. Hi. I own a coffee shop and have started outside seating due to CDC guidelines for covert 19 and the city of Miami, not allowing us to have service inside the restaurant. That has since been lifted for now. Here's my question. I've planted several items that just haven't done well. In the planter boxes we placed around the area. The area is covered so the plants will get natural light for the morning and early afternoon with the full sun. Starting at around 3 P.m.. Do you have any suggestions for low maintenance plants that don't attract insects and most insects and mosquitoes? Also, I like the universe safety method, especially the one on how to clean and turn our tables faster. I've contacted them also. But a William and Mike let's get back to that question. Any suggestions for low maintenance plants that don't attract insects and mosquitoes? Well, sure, I think that you know they've got a couple challenges. They're growing things in containers or pot sometimes do tend to dry out. So I would suggest maybe using a clue see in that situation, which is a native plant. It would take full sign. It would do fine in the container, and if it dries out a little bit, it's not going to die off in a day and so forth, So it's got a very thick leaf. It's very versatile. Very few past attack it and it's a very popular plant and I'll give them a little privacy. Also. Come a little privacy. Okay. All right. Very good.

"Of losses in court for Republicans and supporters of President Donald Trump grew again. Last night, Pennsylvania Supreme Court dismissed another lawsuit that tried to invalidate absentee voting. Pennsylvania's highest court is now clear the way to certify that states a result. Last remaining legal challenge to the election results in Pennsylvania was squashed by the state's high court, which dismissed request from a top trump ally in Congress to toss every mail ballot cast in the state. Justices unanimously rolled the representative Mike Kelly, miss the window to challenge the state's 2019 law, allowing no excuse mail in voting. But Sean Parnell, one of the suits, other plaintiffs who lost the congressional bid himself. What did that It's not over, and voters should stay tuned correspondent Jack who'd act five of the seven judges also said the lawsuit just came too late. Absentee voting procedures have been established for over a year. They say that would have been the time to complain. They dismissed the claim with prejudice, which means Republicans cannot file another lawsuit about this same issue in Pennsylvania anyway, this decision will make President elect Joe Biden, the winner of that battleground state by an 80,000 vote margin.

Buying a home when 'New to Canada'

"Know funny. Things happened mike. And i had actually planned this episode several weeks back to discuss the options for new to canada homebuyers so it was completely fortuitous that i received a voicemail from a potential future home buyer in england. This gentleman apparently wants to move to canada in about a year from now. And he's got he's got questions about options for getting mortgages and what. The costs are involved in buying a house. Here's his voice. Mail a by a heavier well. I may cost list from the uk. My life is winning. Pick and we're looking to move back to winnipeg with young kids in the year or so. My question is this aside from the usual down payment taxes. Is there anything else you think. We may need to consider when volume winnipeg when moving from abroad particularly in relation to mortgages and credit otherwise. Thanks during about costs. A nice place to stay in touch with what's happening will the best now. First of all let me say. I really love getting feedback like that. It tells me that there's actually people listening and it's making a difference that's that's really good Very simple way for you to leave me a voicemail like this by simply going to my podcast website page which is at bono's dot homes slash podcast or if you to this episode in particular bono's dot homes slash one four two everytime you go to my site. A little microphone will appear at the bottom of your screen. Just click it. Leave me voice mail. The will be required to leave an email address. And i will get back in touch with you. I will play. Or i may. I probably will play your voicemail. But i take your name out to keep it private love to hear from you but for now let's call. Mike conceal yes to say. Hey mike it's bowl kaufman. How you doing today. Hey do well how about yourself. Excellent excellent so you heard essentially that question from that gentleman in england. Who's thinking of moving to winnipeg correct and so in answered his question. The first question is how much down payment do you have. He's asking determine what type of credit information. We need for example. If you have a twenty five percent down payment and you've been in canada for three years or less it doesn't matter what your income or immigration status we can get you a mortgage at a positive rate. That kind of threw me there. It's three years or less correct. Three years left. So it's if you've been in canada for less than three years you're good to go with twenty five percent down that's correct. Yes and then you can students. You don't have to have employment. You don't even have credit. That's the requirement cool so as we go down from there so the next level down would be. Let's say a ten percent down so if you have a ten percent down payment you'll have been at your job and in canada or three months and you need to show letter your bank saying that you have a history of making pates. The next step down there will be five percent down payments if you have a five percent down payment cata typically for twelve months so for one year and have a letter from your landlord. Show you pay your rent on time. So those are the sort of the with the descending amounts of down payment. What's required to get a mortgage cara okay. What about a job at five percent down you here for a year. You still have to do a qualifying employment right correct. Yes you you still have to have a job off of probation. Most lenders have a one two three month. Probationary period's okay. So let's go back. That i one really. If you're in the country even a student a refugee anybody was in the country for less than three years can buy a house. And i understand that you just recently did a mortgage for somebody told me about that cracked and so we helped a couple where there was two brothers encounter for ten years and they just brought their parents over from asia and their parents want to buy a house will they brought over money with them so the parents did not have a job did not have any income in canada but because they just came here and they had a twenty five percent down payment they're able to buy a nice house coaster kids. Well okay that's that's awesome. That's good and the rate of those people was. They got a two point. One four percent on a five year fixed.

"mike it" Discussed on KIRO Radio 97.3 FM

"In she just text it's great great easy simple way to get involved in the show I you know Mike it's been sort of a heavy Newsday a typical for a Friday Fridays generally are pretty pretty light and fun but there's a lot of heavy stuff that we have to talk about today so why not why not talk about distractions specifically what are the things that you and I are doing to to chill out to distract ourselves from from all of this news that's that's happening yeah I mean for for me I mean that I got a I've got to be just disciplined about making my distractions actual distractions because I tend to have a lot of bleed into what we do on air those tend to be a lot of the medically lot of the podcast that I follow so I find myself at times like really looking for to listen to the podcast unlisted real has covering the same spot and not it's sometimes a better and different or more nuanced way whatever whichever way but none the less I've been you know marinating in that topic all week and then I'll try and relax the podcast relies well that didn't help and it's and it's kind of hijacked in some ways all of my other favorite podcast aren't fundamentally news podcasts This American Life like a lot of podcast that I would normally listen to our escape in have become very focused on the the pandemic in the effects of the pandemic from economic to health to social and so I've had this sort of like dig deeper in one of the ones that actually finds a nice escape although it's escape into something kind of awful is I mean awful at least in terms of you look at the actual human cost is war stories but it's is really dynamite to buy a couple of a guy named Aiden who is a military writer a guy named caused by angry staff officer was a former infantryman it is still a member of the Army National Guard and also a military writer these two do a podcast and they essentially break down major battles or skirmishes in in war history not just United States but pre United States early enough from Alexander the great power and it's fascinating because they talk about tactically how when when somebody would make a big shift in tactics how other people sort of recognizing it and it would change the in no different way than than you see disruptions in the tech community it happened in fighting as well and how technology would suddenly suddenly swinging advantage one direction to one particular group of people and then I'm more technology or tactics with swing in advance to another way and it is really great it's a really great history lesson which I dig anyway but it's also this very it's for a very specifically focused history lesson I'm not exactly a military history buff but the stories are well told these two people have a really good dynamic and I find that I completely forget everything else when I'm listening to it because it creates you like you make a very vivid picture in your head and the heart of the whole escape process is to replace the movie that's running in your head with a different right yeah yeah I've been well I I've been doing a few different things podcast is definitely one of them I I tend to I tend to really like weird comedy podcast so there's a couple like deb but man is for bonanza which is its impact I don't even know how to explain it a comedian named Andy Daly he he's an improviser as well he plays this character named Dalton Wilcox is the poet laureate of the west and he originated this character on a different show years ago right and this is sort of a spin off what kind of how mark landed on Happy Days gave him his own show this is that except that he and his his crew go through each episode of bonanza and the joke being there are I think like four hundred and thirty one or two episodes of bonanza right and it's just it's bizarre it's weird it's nonsense they they get to the show sort of toward the end but that's all about the preamble right and all that business I really like that a lot there's also one called twenty thousand hertz which I've talked about before you have it now and that's when I actually put on my list after you talked about the last time it's it's a really fantastic it's so well produced it's done by these guys who are basically sound engineers they make sounds for a living right and they tell the stories behind the world's most recognizable sounds and sometimes it's it's really deep and really informative sometimes it's weird their latest one is basically about why why do we think farts are funny when they talk about the whoopee cushion a lot it's just it's it's a trip that sounds like when I would take yeah it's it's a great show twenty thousand hertz if you spell it out right now so what else you doing other than less to say to get out of podcasts I'm playing a lot of animal crossing like apparently the rest of the world it is it's just a delight full pointless exercise and call right you know you without without even the the scandal of like sim city or anything like that right there is sort of just like as Brian as it gets totally you're the worst thing that can happen to you is you get stung by wasps and then you have to go get some medicine and take some medicine then you're fine or you get a what about murder Hornets all we'll see they're what they updated all the time how we are approaching summer you know it's it's done in real time so their seasons so there's only you can only catch certain fish a certain time of year or certain time of day or in a certain location given sort of the theme of animal crossing my guess is it's going to be maybe attempted assault Hornets it's not really good right right there is no real hazard right right it's an easy for your everyone irritation Hornets or something like that yeah it's yes it's a it's basically a game for children right now it's better but but this the sky's the limit I mean I can do you can do so much with that that's been really fun yeah for me weirdly enough like like I find great satisfaction and I don't know why because I don't than maintain the status but I find great satisfaction in organizing stuff and I'm don't know what I think would look at me is a terribly organized person although I've managed to keep a lot of balls in the air and most the time I don't drop many of them but I'd like the process of completely like emptying out everything in the dresser finding stuff that's got to go to goodwill like clearing out space because I find that if I can keep the space to put things organized I'm pretty good at putting things away I always put tools away I was raised in that sort of my dad's shop in my brother's shop you always had to put like the screw drivers back in the screwdriver tore specifically categorize like that kind of thing and so I'm good about that generally speaking but I find that when I as soon as I lose that regular place to put something I it all starts falling apart every rapidly yes I'm the same way and things go all over the place and I did actually get a good tip about where you should when you are reorganizing where you should put things in this is kind of interesting idea that you should put if you lose things and you find it find something that you've lost a tool that you need or something that you need and you looked all over and he finally find find it where you should store it is the first place you look for it that's a great idea right right pretty good idea of where it should be because that's where it should be yeah I mean like that yeah I know I thought that that was I heard that on a really interesting and a different podcast get a free economics which is my one of my favorite podcasts as a guy who's the editor wired magazine and he had these like tips for living is like thirty died of him and they were all very smart but that one sort of range would be like well of course just build it backwards yeah I know right yeah well I yeah that's wonderful now I'm also watching there's a there's a TV show on now that's in its second season third season I should know this what we do in the shadows it's the strangest most hilarious take on vampires I'm not a big vampire guy right but my god is this show funny it is the these vampires they live in Americanism it's based off of the movie of the same name what we do in the shadows that's from New Zealand and the story is of these vampires who have been living in Staten Island for centuries and they were a were originally sent here to like take over North America right they got lazy and they haven't done anything and it's it's shot of Rory's in every ancillary characters hilarious people show up for one episode a lot of times it's just it's it's I'm going all out of the park we're allowed which platforms it's on Hulu if you hang you can watch it they don't have Hulu so FX show yeah yeah that's it that's it yeah all right well runtime we're gonna have to revisit this because I can I like that I liked I liked it also gave us quite literally it's gets very matter because gave us a distraction from what we've been talking about as well just to have a talk about distraction it's true it's true more Karen I.

"Say that I you know I I don't know how many years will be left but I don't I don't so I don't see and like I said working from home certainly makes a difference I would say it's a different world being at home Mike it's completely that's a very different world and I and I have to be honest with you because I do want to be honest with you and I want to be honest with everybody listening I woke up this morning I wasn't feeling well and nowadays you wake up and you don't feel well you give it a million thoughts and know my throat was sore and had a little bit of a fever all the symptoms of everything and so out of an abundance of caution you've heard that term a live audience a boat I've been locked away from my family for the last twelve hours because you know I've been to in test I don't know if I've got any better now you know what bro I gotta tell you I actually do turning on the microphone and talking about sports with you actually do feel a little bit better doesn't mean I you know this nothing wrong with me but because I sometimes I I wanted and not that I feel I feel good I gotta say thank god I feel I feel good but sometimes I wonder you know you you know mentally yes almost ought to like you know Joe it within a medically you make yourself they think you're sick the only sold you are so right and trust me I thought about that this morning when I felt that that it's a matter of right right I see us talking to some of the heaven do you really feel like it's mental right now I I genuinely did unfortunately so I've been I've been locked away from my family for the last twelve hours basically the good news for you as far as is that is that you know really it's at least where you you know hearing what they say you're not at the risk that somebody my age or above would be at no absolutely as far as any kind of god's got to bid for talent you would be concerned no that's how will you know that I think that's been pretty well documented out there yeah but that you're a hundred percent right that's why I like in my brain I wasn't concerned about myself as much as I was concerned about my in laws that live with me and my wife so that's a part of why I've kinda caved out a location and housing right now only get it boy I'm sure every I'm sure there are a lot of people listening right now but over the last few days woke up you're not feeling great work and normally do you know me when I don't feel great okay okay take a Tylenol let's go I'm fine with you but I always ready to play with pain of course yeah like let's go but I think because of everything we've learned and know about you just have to be extra careful not only for yourself but for everybody around you yep so that means they'll be about five more classic games I'll be watching tonight because I'll be stored away by myself so all right all right I'll let everybody know what it is let's go to Jason in Montgomery which have Jason Jason how are you your order what's up yes October Salam you bro not much yeah like J. O. I. I think you you're you're now that Robby Anderson says Abbas you gotta get back I re signed and all of my other point was I I just read a report on now yes the on the Broncos released Joe Flacco so would would you actually bring Joe Flacco back up for Sam Darnold and he's a bit you know if you yeah I mean I don't know what kind of what's the money situation would be but I mean you know you certainly would be a decent guide advise your backup quarterback also the question I have and it's funny because we were talking a Joe Flacco yesterday we're trying to remind ourselves the Bronco quarterback situation drew lock obviously right well before I finally came in and the Flacco experiment in Denver didn't work but you wonder about Joe Flacco if he wants to keep going especially if his career now is as a backup quarterback is thirty five years old a lot of money got a super ball already yeah these guys won this championship we're referring to him yesterday because we're talking how Sanchez beat manning and Brady back to back on the road in the playoffs and Flacco was done that too he has that on his resume yeah but if you're Joe Flacco right now would you want to be the backup to Sam Darnold or anyone else I don't know you hit on the head the overall I mean you know he would there's not a lot of quarter but you know you got some some pretty big name guys are available starting quarterbacks in this league cam Newton in the Dalton James Winston and there's not a lot of teams looking for quarterbacks right now exactly if you think about it won't go through all teams in this league and say could they use all the names you mention James Winston Cameron and Andy Dalton Joe Flacco and by the way Joe Flacco is last on that list let's get perfectly I don't know not a Joe Flacco's last on that list I would agree with you on a percent right how many spots are really available to be a starting quarterback in this league is a back up sure why not right I mean look to answer his question yeah if Joe Flacco said I want to be a backup I'm cool with it why wouldn't I sorry no I'm not could agree more solid as well as good a backup as you could probably have to be honest with you but but what but what it comes down to is is that really something he would want to do right at this point in his career I don't know I mean Joe Flacco's thirty five years old and needs to be able to sign if you thought was a backup quarterback I mean you know you have to look at that guy knows who knows what the what how that situation is going to play itself out yeah at some point we can go through the teams that could use a quarterback I don't as a starter not as about right because I think it's a back up sure you should use a good backup sure and you don't miss a pay as your backup sure of course I know what the why not but when you go through the league is not a long list especially if you're going to believe that the charges are gonna go with Tyrod Taylor that's I thought right now that they may draft a quarterback which they probably will but for now Tyrod Taylor is going to be their starter and they're not gonna be that interested in bringing in one of those veterans we mention right we'll get to that is a show rolls on to mention Chris busy now covers the giants for giants inside will join us at three o'clock our weekly chat with Jon Heyman a little bit later on as well but I'm going Roberts here in the afternoon on this Thursday attention.

"As I understand if I do I'm in that age group where I can take some security at sixty six right and I understand if I if I'm still working my soul security benefit will be reduced right is there a way to calculate how much it's going to be reduced there are my cell is that a percentage of my yearly grocer Mike it's run it's roughly well I should pack up your right it's confusing and in fact you said a couple of things anecdotally that we're not quite accurate so let's just set the record straight social security as important as it is as wonderful as it is is extraordinarily and in my view unnecessarily complicated you pay into the system for your entire working career you reach you give an age of start to receive benefits a lot to be that simple and easy but Hey it's a government program and therefore nothing simple and easy here's what it comes down to you're allowed to begin receiving retirement benefits starting at age sixty two you don't have to wait until you're sixty five or sixty six you can start at sixty two yeah what you understand that but you'll receive less as you know and so the longer you delay the start of benefits the higher the benefit will be once you do start there's an important phrase in social security circles called F. R. A. full retirement age at your full retirement age which is roughly age sixty six for most working Americans that sixty six in a few months and so on depending on your actual birthday starting at run eight sixty six your full retirement age you get your full one hundred percent of your social security benefits if you start to benefits prior to that you get less than the full benefit if you delay you get more than the full benefit if you wait until you're seventy you'll actually get a hundred and thirty percent of your benefits so instead of getting a dollar you get a Buck thirty if you wait eight seventy so the real question is when should I start should I take it starting at sixty two even though it's less but sooner or do I wait till I'm seventy which is more but it's later part of the implication our taxes under the rules if you're still working prior to your full retirement age you will lose a lot of the income to taxes after your full retirement age that doesn't apply so it certainly makes sense for you if you don't really need the money and it sounds like you don't because you're still working that you should in fact delay which is what you've been doing so far and I would recommend you continue delaying until you do in fact quit working okay so completely stopped working and then take it then or eight seven ever comes first because after a seven day your benefit won't keep growing by delaying so you might as well take it starting at eight seventy right yeah and I printed out Michael security statement and I see what it is that sixty six and it's a percent every year up right age seventy right but I also know that if I wasn't working if I stop working at sixty six but still the lady at say one year till sixty seven to get that extra eight percent right it takes twelve I have under the mat it takes twelve and half years to break even on missing that first year of payments yes so the real question for you is how long you're going to live do you think you're going to live beyond age seventy five well that's the real crystal hold everybody wishes they had how's your health a good and what your family history how long my parents nineties mom my mom died at seventy unfortunately but my dad's ninety one is still going may I ask what was your mother's cause of death it well it was complications due to Parkinson's sepsis is but that's because it she just became invalid got it the reason I ask is that many of the illnesses that have caused people to die in the past have already been cured and many others will be cured by the time you reach those advanced ages you know heart disease respiratory illness cancers themselves and so on so if your dad's already is still alive in his nineties and you're in good health today I think you can anticipate with a reasonable degree of confidence that you're going to live well beyond seventy five or eighty years of age meaning it's worth the one year wait to get the higher benefit because in your eighties and nineties you'll be the beneficiary of a higher income thanks to the one year wait okay so just to recap then if I took it before sixty six there's heavy taxes on it but from sixty six on there are no taxes that's correct prior to sixty six about half of your benefit will be subject to taxes after your full retirement age that goes away even if I'm still working correct okay so all right well you you know I've everything I've read on this and I'd never heard or never read something that said that so once again this is just so thoroughly confusing well it isn't even all in even gets more confusing than that because of the fact that you're married did your wife work she did up until she retired many many years ago and she collecting social security benefits she is not she just turned sixty five in August so we're gonna takers next year so the question will Hearst be reduced five I'm working and she's not now but here here's the real question might it be possible that she would get a higher benefit as your spouse then based on her own work record I looked at that and where she could take a fifty percent of mine now and noted that the answer is no hers would be more than fifty percent and that's really the case that many people don't realize that spousal benefits are often higher than the worker benefits so there's an implication for spouses there's also an application depending on the age disparity between the husband and the wife doesn't sound like your racist verities all that significant yeah yeah I I look into that and you know if we were ten years apart she was ten years younger than me then it would be best that she went ahead and took it Neil up to fifty percent of mine exact no she's actually too much older than me and then there are other issues if there's a divorce which doesn't seem to apply to you other other issues if there's a way to which doesn't apply to you there are other issues if there are children under the age of sixteen are there no one dollar thirty years old so this just demonstrates the incredible complexity and why the answer when should I take social security depends on all of these factors are you still working how long do you think you're going to live are you married what's the age difference between you and your spouse how much income are you earning how much income is your spouse earning or their children under sixteen is there anybody with a disability either you or your spouse the list goes on on on the factors that affect the equation of helping us answer the question when should you start to receive social security benefits and it is not a one size fits all and that's why there's really no substitute for meeting with a financial adviser who can go through all of this in great detail for you to help make sure you're getting it right because as you know jam once you make the decision it's pretty much your reversible that's right yeah I got to get it right I live in with a forever yep yeah so I leased a week of sixty six and quite frankly the reason I'm still working is because of that reason generous for one K. plan of my work so I wanted to keep soccer as much as I can until I finally say okay that's enough and are you enjoying working yeah it's okay if you could give it up as well I could be okay therefore what we need to do is some financial planning calculations to determine do you have enough money saved between your four oh one K. and other savings and investments plus the income you'll get from social security is all of that enough to support you and your wife for as long as you and your wife are expected to live because of the answer to that is yes then there's no reason to keep working an extra year or two merely to increase the balance of the four oh one K. to produce income that is already sufficient to meet your lifestyle needs and you might as well just quit now enjoy yourselves now that is that is true so I would argue that you should meet with a financial adviser who can do some retirement planning calculations for you to test the theory how long do in fact you need to continue working you said you're going to do it for another year to win a concluding retire right now we may conclude you need to keep working on one or two more years with three or four more years okay in other words let's do the math okay that's great advice yeah I do I know this answer with the caller but there's a certain number that you you can figure out what how much you have any investments and what you can draw on it comfortably do not depleted and then you know be able to maintain your life so there's no particular name for it but the bottom line is we want to know that there's enough money in your piggy bank coupled with social security to provide you with retirement income for as long as the two of you are expected to live and we've got an office not far from Ventura California so we're happy to to help you and go through these calculations for you that's what we do is financial planners helping people realize based on where you're at based on how much money you've got how much money you're at continuing to save where that money is invested how long you're expected to live how much money you need on a monthly basis here's weighing you can retire it's either right now okay or it's never or somewhere in between not ready but great advice I really appreciate in chance to talk because this is just so confuse it is confusing all the more so for folks who have never dealt with before and yet we do it every single day and so we're pretty good at it you've dealt with it once and you're not as good as we are although you seem to have a pretty good handle on the stuff so you have that put you ahead of the curve so give us a call if we "You know if someone text your calls you they will receive a message going back saying i'm unavailable right now police guy will call you when i can or our tax you can try to take that the distraction so that you don't feel that you have to answer the tax because you're not going to know about it by that's a great tool we encourage everyone to to use that but once again mike it's gonna it's going to get back to education and you know you talked about you know most people aren't that on the road aren't drunk right so but the few that are caused the problems everybody in today's world is using their smartphone and they're using it constantly and i mentioned about all the new apps that come out more and more usage of it it's it's hard to put that down and so we have to use that tool to stop that are are what we're really doing is going out to try to educate them more and more the put it down because we will real we really want to see that kind of behavior change it is on the website and also you can go to your apps store and stuff like that downloaded from anything they could tell them not to do.

"The show and at the end of the show right there at the end of the show is usually when people call and uh and it's the busiest uh four our phone lines when joe pattern the team opened their calendars up to sit down with you and talk about your retirement so i just want to let you know that if if you do call in and you know you have to wait for a you know a couple of seconds or you are asked to leave a message just leave a message and number and we will call you right back to make sure that we take care of you soon as we can and get you uh did you what you need which is a onepage retirement income plan has right mike we're gonna really help them out in uh today if anybody calls in you know i have some extra time this afternoon's up you know if anybody calls in today i'll try myself to give me a call back within the hour so uh within hours the show will make it happen you know joe pets as we're talking about that i'm thinking to myself as someone is getting ready to retire in you talk about this all the time ukraine 'cause you see it every day adama capital you know it you have your life savings and people are a little apprehensive people are so i'm scared with what i have right now and i'm in the mid40s man i don't want to lose it but is so it was i can only imagine i empathise with that that this is what you have and it has to last you twenty to thirty plus years in retirement so mike it's a little bit like this you member when you were a young boy and you were standing on the high die for the first time skier how high that look tell ya scary that water look down below but after you jumped off he jumped bright backup out of there and he said well that was great yeah um you know people need to understand that just like a little boy jumping off to hide off it's normal in it's okay there would be something wrong with you if you.

"More of a hit that was like middle school early high school yet and we were probably still stuck in our grunge phase for a little bit of that time but okay serve you the pig favorite to pox on what would you pick i tell you what i you know i only really liked the hits of two palk but if i picked one in this is one that i would recommend to anybody because i think this this song shows his talent you know like i said i'm not big into gangsta rap but uh it sets a white woman sweat it well yeah but i like dear momma by by two back and i'll tell you why because i think i think you could listed like any style of music in still like that song like even if you didn't like rap i think you could pick up that song it'd be like our i get this i like it is that good of us all wildest throne this out there and and i think the one of the hardest things to do is take a song and remake it and make it better than their original right mmhmm at one a in a a fabulous artists of very talented artists a bruce hornsby he had the song the way this red ana to park remade that and made it into changes uh yeah i personally think that to park song is better now mike it's mahape male for that but i think he took a song to the next level and i think what he's saying is very socially relevant today as much as it was back then another song that is socially relevant probably today to is a keep your head up that's an are one that each check out if you're not familiar with his work but we'll get right back to that after this quick beer break.
