"I respect Mike Zimmer a ton. When I watch film of Mike Zimmer's defenses, I'm like, every game I feel like I'm like, well, that's an impossible blitz. That's an impossible coverage. That's amazing. I'm like, he's really good. He's hard to beat on defense. He's awesome. And I think if you paired Mike Zimmer with a young offensive minded head coach, say, like, Kellen Moore becomes a head coach somewhere. And he's like, hey, I want to bring my Zimmer along as my defensive coordinator because he's got a lot of valuable wisdom for a first year head coach that's on the offensive side of the ball. Mike Zimmer is a perfect, perfect fit to be a defensive coordinator. They're kind of like wade Phillips was the defensive coordinator for Sean mcvay's first couple years in LA with the rams. So now, is my Zimmer willing to be the number two guy? Is he willing to not be the boss? I don't know. But Mike Zimmer is a guy who is a free agent. He's a potential defensive coordinator. And he's going to be a really good hire for somebody around the NFL. Now, the Vikings also fired their general manager Rick spielman. And the big story from the end of Mike Zimmer and Rick spielman's run in Minnesota was that in 2017 they went to the end of the 2017 season they went to the NFC championship game in a case Keenum at quarterback. Patch number left, case Keenum was not retained. And in March 2018, right after that happened January they lost two months later, they were signing Kirk Cousins to a massive three year $84 million contract fully guaranteed. And the belief was after going to the NFC title game. The belief was that Kirk Cousins was the final piece of the puzzle to get Minnesota to a Super Bowl. And they fell flat on their face. They went since then, in the four years since signing Kirk, they went 8, 7 and one, ten and 6, 7 and 9 and 8 and 9. That's not all Kirk's fault at some points where it was even maybe potentially the MVP. He played really, really well, and a lot of points. And that was four years. But whether you like it or not, you signed Kirk Cousins to a massive contract with high expectations and in those four years after that only have one playoff win.

"It was not a good game. And from an evaluation standpoint, what is there to benefit from Shawn manion? What really needed to happen was Minnesota needed to put kell in mind into a game and evaluate how good he is and what he can do. And Zimmer, after the game called out Kellen mon, they're like, well, is there any consideration to maybe put kell in mind into the game and why? Mike Zimmer's like, no, I see him every day. Why would I want to see him in the game? It's like, jeez, that is, first of all, really harsh and uncalled for, but also very short sighted. And I think you can learn, I just, I don't know. I don't think practice is the best way to evaluate. It's pretty good. You see the guy everybody that's great, but how about you see what Kellen mon can do in a game? Because if nothing else, if you're going to get blown out anyway, with Sean Mannion, who there is no future with Sean Mann and he's not gonna be your future franchise quarterback. Let's see what the young guy could do. And it's another example of Mike Zimmer totally mishandling an offensive situation and just being very conservative and weird from an offensive standpoint. Raphael writes in and says, hey Zack, what's your opinion on resting starters before a playoff run? What teams or players would benefit from resting? Any teams that should avoid doing so. There are many interesting situations in the NFC this year. So someone else wrote in about this with the Bengals. So if you rest your starters, you risk losing momentum. If you're not playing, you're losing an opportunity to fine tune some stuff and get ready for the playoffs. That's one thing. But also you don't want people to get hurt. What if you'd secured a playoff spot and then you play a quarterback in the final week of the year and he gets hurt and he misses the entire playoff run. Like, hey, you're gonna get destroyed for that..

"And he was back out there for the next play that they ran after that field goal, which was after the mic Williams touchdown. But this was this is entertaining. This one looked like it might get ugly and then end up being really interesting. So I guess we should be thankful for that. Hackers by kids. So I am going to go rogue here for a second and officially proclaim this the game of the day. The Vikings 34 31 victory over the packers probably just because we had a lot of points and a back and forth game. And that made things much more interesting than most of these other games. And yet another Vikings game that came down to the final minutes. I will note that Gary Grammy was the only MMP staffer to pick the Vikings. So he saw this coming, maybe it was because of the spreadsheet. Maybe he just had confidence that they were better than the record indicated, which is true. They are better than the record indicated. They had a lot of crazy finishes, but this was a really entertaining game in a slate of games that was not super entertaining on the whole. For reasons that I can not disclose on this podcast, I have no control over my weekly picks, so I did not pick the packers, but on last week's podcast, I did say that the Vikings were going to be the surprise team of the second half. This was a big showing by the Vikings in a big spot. God bless Mike Zimmer for when it came comes down to the line still trusting a field goal kicker. Like, you know, this is, again, I mean, this was a situation that if a field goal kicker had missed this particular kick to win the game, I would have absolutely believed my if I was Mike Zimmer that's something was holy and irreversibly cursed with my team. But yeah, this was a big win for Minnesota. I think they increased their playoff odds quite a bit, and I think that they just get closer to putting a grab on that 7th seed. And I don't want to go nuts here. This wasn't like a Kirk Cousins rich gannon was playing for Gruden back in the early 2000s. They'd have these games where it was like 71 pass attempts. This was not that for Kirk Cousins, but it was a game in which they clearly leaned on the passing game a little bit more. And it made plenty of sense because the packers have all these injuries in the secondary and the corner back in core and they could not cover Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen in this game who end up combining for just an obscene. I think it was 16 for two 51 and three touchdowns on 20 targets to the two of them. So that was nice to see you rather than just saying, all right, well, let's make sure we get our runny backs there 35 combined carries and try and try and wait it out this way. Because look, that's the packers can be got right now as far as this past defense goes..

"Browns for the next two weeks is Mike Zimmer on the hot seat with an O and four start. Absolutely. Vikings ownership is going to start asking questions saying is that the coach is at the quarterback Kirk Cousins? Is it both the coach Mike Zimmer and Kirk Cousins? Someone's going to have to pay. And if Minnesota, they paid Kirk Cousins a ton of money. And was it Kirk's fault or not who knows, but the reality is that when ownership gave Kirk a massive contract fully guaranteed. 86 million whatever it was. The belief was Kirk is the final puzzle piece we need to go in a Super Bowl. It hasn't happened like at all. And is that Kirk Cousins fault entirely? No, it's totally not. There have been parts around them that have failed and not been good enough. And so again, I just wonder, who is, who is the Vikings ownership going to blame? I know that I think it's both. I think it's actually more on Kirk than it is on the coach. I think, unfortunately, what's sad as Mike Zimmer is an incredible defensive coordinator who man, I can't explain giving up that many points in a row. I just know that you would think with that defense and him calling defensive plays that your quarterback has to score enough points to make up for that and I just haven't done that. So it's a team effort, but I wonder who is the Vikings ownership kind of blame? Kirk Cousins or Mike Zimmer or maybe both of them. I don't know, but that's what I like that's how an O and two start for the Vikings. Their whole season is shifted into this thing. Who is going to pay? They're going to have a bad year. It seems like and who's the person that's going to take the fall? Is it both? Is it neither I don't know, but keep your eye in the Vikings and their ownership, what they do moving forward with decisions towards the end of the year. Final question that I Lee writes in he says, if you had ten minutes to have a conversation with your 16 year old self, what would you say?.

"Ninety over eighty percent teams. That have started owen to have missed the playoffs. I'm about that so it's an uphill climb for this bunch it is possible however so crisper sard. Which team do you have the most faith in. we'll look. I'm not off the colts. I picked him to make the playoffs. But we just talked about them so i go elsewhere. Minnesota the minnesota vikings look. They started their first two games on the road and they could easily be to and they should definitely be one in one at least all right so they lose the cincinnati in over in overtime. And then you just see four seconds to play their kicker who had already missed an extra point early in a game that had him down a point. He misses a thirty seven yard field goal. So i think the vikings are actually much better than their own into record suggests. Mike zimmer i think is a solid coach even though he is on the hot seat and mike find himself on my under pressure list going into this week..

"Be in on smart enough at home to know that. The bengals coaches that better known that they better lineup. Juries phillips a quarterback. I don't know does that drove them. But if i'm watching at home i know for fact i promise yada yada listen to this right. And then they gave to the raison fields is coming up not as ru. That's true. I have to agree with you on that. They definitely have to be prepping in. That was one of the takeaways from the last game. Is i think a lot of people what flew under the radar because everybody was concentrating on the fourth down. Call that they didn't get in their own territory. Was that the fact that they are coach. Mike zimmer in staff can they continue to do that matt nagy Opinion not the greatest coach obviously has had some success in the past. But can this bingo staff continue to put together game plans where they're now out coaching the other team as well. I think that's also a key. Another injury to report just from the baraci eddie. Goldman did not practice yesterday as well. There's another guy. Larry room so again. The bengals outside of some slight injuries obviously The safety that we had the reserve safety ricardo. Alarcon gotta be all. I are at least three weeks. I believe this for the furnace blood. Yup exactly. so we've transitioned players up obviously get a backup reserve carmen jackson. He's had some issues in terms of some cramps yesterday but obviously with him being a reserved guard. That's that's probably not something beating majors or the bengals. A fairly healthy and this was one of the keys that we had to have happened. This season was try to stay as healthy as possible. Especially when you see things that are going on and look at the past. That's one thing that also plays into the bengals hands on but outside of that zone is there. Is there anything else that you want to get into about this chicago bears. Bingo matchup.

"Yeah and the other side of it was you know the the two things was more explosiveness and the deep ball thing. He worked all season on talking about trying to conquer that and get better at that. The other side was when you really broke down his numbers and he did a million things right last year. He wasn't the most efficient. I mean he was not as good as you probably want him to be. As far as your your your real winning stash yards. Pretend to your you know when you when you get into the deeper analytics of adjusted adjusted yards per attempt. Things like that. He had his most efficient game as a pro in on his fewest number of passes. I mean he was. He was exactly the type of quarterback that wins games high efficiency and a run game. That also had nice efficiency all connected together in when you get that you kind of tackle to your biggest demons from your first year and makes you think of what can be once you really start to get the rhythm going with all the new part share going off and what kind of how. I walked away from saturday. Sunday's game thinking was all right. I got joe borough check. He's back okay Jomar chase kinda saw a little bit of everything from him. One hundred fifty from scrimmage from joe mixon that that holds up t- higgins had a positive impact on that game. Cj uzzaman you. And i've talked about occasionally about the chemistry that he had joe borough early last year. The biggest play the game involved him and you start to think about what what sunday may have told us about the potential for this offense and if you're a fan of this team i don't know how you don't salvi i mean it is it is tantalizing to think about what this team might be offensively. Everybody stays healthy if it turns out that what we saw on on sunday is a sneak preview by the time we're in the heart of the season good god knows what offensively this team is going to be able to do in. What are the odds. That defense coached by mike. Zimmer doesn't finish in the top ten this year. That every mike zimmer defense finish top ten except for last year when everybody else got hurt i mean that's just what he does And we talked all weakling. About how mike zimmer has befuddled every quarterback. We've all seen it if you've watched this team for a while when he was a coordinator here he knows how to do it. And you just put a pretty impressive twenty seven against them Where you had the game in control with twenty one points there the third quarter and you just kinda then. You started trying to run it out. I mean that is. I mean you're going to face a whole lot weaker. Defenses than that one. Is you go and you already looked pretty explosive in your first game getting everybody back together you know. I think when you put all those pieces together you can. Certainly you can see the light. That's for sure is happy for tomorrow. Chase happy for the bengals as happy for for fans that we all got a chance to to watch this dude do what he can do i..

Sunday Surprises: What Went Wrong With the Vikings?

"The team you cover. The vikings appear to have a pretty favorable matchup to start the season facing joe borough in his first game back from acl surgery but a theme we saw on sunday was a lot of games not going as expected. So take us through. What was going wrong for the vikings and what was going right for the bengals for much of this game. Yeah i think the biggest thing that went wrong for the vikings had to do with the penalties twenty four already. Four penalties is opening drive on the vikings after that holding call. I think that there were. I wanna say five false start. Penalties and five holding penalties along with defensive pass interference. Most of those occurred in the first half but the vikings racked up over ninety yards of penalties. It turns out. They got five sacks on borough they forced the bengals to three and thirteen on third down kind of all the fundamentals that you look for me there were decent in the red zone the fundamentals that you look for like a good defense or even a good offense were there but a lot of penalties just took them back. I mean the first drive of the game. They gained forty yards of offense only gained three yards on the field. I'm sure you know mike zimmer. Being the vikings head coach is notoriously intense probably was extremely relaxed in not furious at all about any of these penalties right. Yeah of course i mean. He just rolls with the punches. You know you figure that they will probably take care of themselves now. He was as you would expect. He was pretty vocal at halftime about all of the issues that he's coming up but again most of those issues did occur in the first half. So i guess you know for whatever that's worth. I guess whatever's halftime speech was about cleaning things up. May work voice

I want to talk to the great number 85 Tim McGee, allegedly a good pickle ball player. About what's going to happen on Sunday with the Vikes in town and Mike Zimmer. So let's continue with more And lastly, the Reds stunk again last night. Not one Reds foot hit third base except the one by Joey Votto when he had hit the solar homer. So even in the 10th inning when they began a guy on second, nobody got to third base. So what do you do? Last year, the Reds did not hit for 40 of the 60 games. Then they get to the playoffs. Go 22 innings and don't score. Now. Here they are on the stretch again, where they can't score runs. And it's the worst time the year to get in this this three or four weeks slump. They have not won a series. Now. The last five series all went the wrong way. In ST Louis. Tomorrow night. They're off tonight registered, not play. Today. They have three in Saint Louis and three in Pittsburgh. Then off next Thursday, then a 10 game stretch the last home stand of the season. In Cincinnati. Begins on Friday with the Dodgers in town. The world champions. I want the Reds. I love the Reds, man. Did they urinate me off? I will live and die, a Reds fan. Bill Reid Burger and Karen Kraft and the Castellane ease and all the rest. I knew I was kind of close, but I want to make sure I got it right on 50 61 50 West 159th Street in Oak Forest. Oliver's Tonight. Yes. So fantasy draft happening. Everybody's getting very excited. Hate fantasy football. But, hey, it's OK, because it means that the football season is here. I wanna play Sean McVeigh. This is McVeigh talking about preparing for two quarterbacks as they get the Bears on Sunday night football. I think you'd be naive for us not to prepare for them to be able to utilize him in some form or fashion. But And he's a winning quarterback in this league does a great job. I really have seen a lot of film of Andy even going back to when Jay Gruden was his coordinator at Cincinnati so very familiar with what a really good quarterback he is. He does a great job. Accurate anticipation recognizes the looks defensively can straighten up protection. So Andy Dalton is a really good quarterback, and it'll be a great challenge. And then you see the ways that Justin, you know, made a lot of players going back to his career at Ohio State. What he showed in the preseason. And so I think you got to be ready for for either or but it's gonna be a challenge for sure. Kill him with kindness. Sean, kill him with kindness and the great quarter. Everything complimentary If I set the over under at number of snaps for Justin Fields at 3.5, you're going over or under. Oh, boy, I would say they're not going to unleash anything in the first game. Okay? I think they're going to let him watch and just take a look. They've been conservative in nature. They said he wasn't going to play. I don't think that in the way the game is going well dictate exactly whether they will or whether they won't use them. Don't think you warm a guy up. Then you let him sit for a quarter and a half. Then all of a sudden you're going to put them out there and then Papa, hammy on. I mean, what would be the scenario like a Taysom Hill package and I want that. Do you wanted to come in with the fourth and one at the 37 where you wanted to pop a special package? Gosh, that's like the taste Some hill package kind of right? Yeah, that kind of thing right there. But I mean, I don't want my quarterback to warm up at the beginning of the game. Come on the sidelines, cool down, then all of a sudden, throw them in in the second quarter and think that he's going to be as pliable as he was when he warmed up. Yeah, I think if I if I said it at 3.5, I think I take my I take the under. Yeah, I'm going with the under right now. I don't think you're going to see 11. Nothing. There will be no waffling in this first game. So he's on the sideline to say, Yeah, I'm not saying it's right or wrong. I'm just saying that's the way it is right now. Yahoo! Put a list together Yahoo Sports, putting this together the five coaches in the NFL on the hot seat. Number five is Mike Zimmer. I mean, these are pretty much the usual suspects. I don't know if I totally buy Zimmer being on the hot seat, but okay, I mean, they have been evident last year, a bit of a disappointment. They thought they'd be a lot better. Yeah, He's been in the playoffs a lot with them, though. Okay? Mike Zimmer's five Zach Taylor. Very obvious choice. And when we were talking about that last year for crying alive in just his second year, Zach Taylor and Cincinnati is four. Uh, quarterback getting hurt didn't help. No, it did not. It didn't help him at all. Vic Fangio in Denver three. That's a no brainer. Cliff Kingsbury in Arizona is two and Matt Nagy is number one on their list They write. Nagy and GM Ryan Pace barely survived last season immediate conference with Bears Chairman George McCaskey to announce Nagy and pace would be back sounded like an apology to the fans. That's kind of a funny one. I'm apologizing, but they're coming back. We understand your frustration. We're frustrated Tuba, Kaski said. Yeah, I'm naggy might want to get off to a good start His confusing stubbornness surrounding starting Andy Dalton in week one. Despite exciting rookie Justin Fields, A strong preseason isn't helping his case. Maggie should lead any list of first coach fired simply because it seemed he was nearly fired after last season. We've had Probably more discussions that we all care to admit about who should or shouldn't be fired or who's going to be back. You'd like it if there was just some consistency because they were consistently good. But that's not the case. I've stated many times. I'm not so sure that Ryan Pace is in jeopardy of going anywhere anytime soon. The coach maybe. We'll argue, Carm, They'll argue it. 12 and 4888 make sure no, I know. Yeah, even though they've been disappointing. They try to argue it. I mean, George, and like how many times we spent the month of the off season we spent January February sort of Poking fun at the press conference, right? Well, Ryan and Matt are our football guys. Have we gotten everything right? No. Have we gotten quarterback situation completely right? No. Have we won enough games? No. Everything else is there. I mean, like, that's the press conference. Hey, guys, Everything's there. We just don't have the quarterback and we don't have the winds. What Everything is there. I got news for you in football. You don't have much If you don't have the quarterback and you have the winds. Hopefully they finally got the quarterback. Why they're not playing them is beyond still have faith in the Bears defense. I don't have any faith in the bears off. Do you have faith in the bear? Secondary? We were talking about this last week. When you were gone a little bit, man. They are incredibly thin. And that defensive backfield. You're well, I mean, theoretically, you got a two time pro bowler playing safety That doesn't play anything like he did when he went to the pro bowler. Robot. So I think, Jackson. I mean, Eddie Jackson is back. There He is your theoretical leader back there..

Preseason time where he was not working with any of his receivers and of course then they had a couple that went on to get hurt with soft tissue injuries. So i look at the ravens offense in that situation. I go well. They really haven't had a chance to get in sync with all of their main offense because they haven't all been together. Let's leave it there. Let's move forward from kirk cousins and a quarterback spot at the vikings to alvin. Cook before we move off of kirk cousins is going to talk about the offense general and ask you a question okay. What do you think the. Vikings defense is like this year. Because yeah because i would say just in general that i think a lot of the fact. That kirk cousins finishes qb eleven and justin jefferson and adam peel had the kind of seasons. They did again not taking away their talent. But i think that in mike zimmer ideal world it they are not throwing nearly as much as they are. They aren't as many shootouts as they are. They aren't as they aren't down as much as they were in march of last year. Much more conservative ball control offense and so we think adam phelan justin jefferson or super talented. Of course we do. Data cooks gonna is my number two running back no matter what but i do think that. If the defense is a normal mike zimmer defense and not what they had last year. I do think it changes the fantasy outlook of jefferson and feeling. I'm glad you asked it. Because i went back and looked okay. Incur cousins has moved. The vikings for three seasons sir and his numbers have been relatively close. Year-over-year the passing offense has been relatively efficient year over year. He's always a very accurate quarterback whether that's because of the throws it is making or as natural accuracy. This offense has been kind of comparable for three straight seasons even though the defense last year cratered relative to where it was previous seasons. So it's not as much concerning to me especially for those two wide receivers. Where i'm going to fall back on the talent right. Feeling one of the great touchdown makers in the nfl and just jefferson. I think we all believe a true superstar. Cook thursday call. That's something to look up do a favor. I'm gonna ask thirsty. Callo look this up. Just how. Many games in which the vikings were trailing last year and you know by more than seven points how many like last year and where the numbers would have been much better than where they were in previous years. And i was surprised. That kirk cousins passing yardage was not i think it was right below or right above internal eighteen but i would have thought five hundred yards difference six or seven extra touchdowns. I was surprised by it but anyway but there was also a season there would dow dobbin cook. Missed some time right. I mean so they probably had to throw more. And i also think by i mean like listen stuff on digs and we now we now certainly know what kind of talent stuff on digs is stefan digs has top three fancy wide receiver in the nfl. Ability stefan digs never had the kind of season. Justin jefferson did last year with the vikings. I'm i'm just saying. I do think that if it is If if it's a better defense. I think you can lower the expectations of the vikings often slightly. Okay kyle has it real quick. And then we'll wrap this up dalvand cacao. What's the answer about. Matthew's seven point deficit question. Vikings ranked thirteenth in number of offense it snaps when trailing by at least seven points less. So that's i think average but more middle. There's all right to that had the same instinct. So i think it might be more stabilize than we. Maybe our mind logically would lead us to think all right. We're gonna come back and talk about davin cook star in his own right.

"In these training camp practices. And if you just line up all the weapons man. It's almost like they're too good to fail there. I know i'm not gonna go crazy. That lock in teddy played. Great against backups. Playing fairly vanilla. Think it's to me. It's just like hamlet devante williams are a reminder that they go seven eight deep of pretty fun. Weapons there the broncos. I'm all in on the broncos. Making the playoffs sounds familiar. But you're right you're right. This is all set. They're set up well for ten or eleven when season and being one of these. Afc wildcards if they could just get steady play out of quarterback right they can survive and they can survive an injury or two. You know they had a lot last year and it's like they can lose a tight end they can lose a receiver they can even lose a running back and they still have like even for a pessimist like me with that. Qb room the ceiling for drew lock and teddy bridgewater is to me play so like it's not out of like the roma vowel comes here that they play well to their abilities within this offense surrounded by the town so yeah i think if you're denver fan you have a lot of reasons to be optimistic even though in the back of your mind. You're wondering if you've been left vulnerable again. By the decision there is a world to where we're lock is someone we just don't know yet that maybe he makes even more of a leap beyond steady. I don't see that yet. But i will say something. I thought he threw the ball really well in that game. It's a small sample size. But the whole quarterback scenario looked a little cleaner than it has an awhile in denver but against the flow. Not against first teamers the scale guys. I want the skull guys. Because i really do think you could see devante handler and be like oo. Those guys are there's another world that where they both through two interceptions. Everyone's melting they were. They were clean and steady. What's his all. We're asking get worse. Oh my favorite part of the summer with these. Preseason games is that a lot of the games are covered by local tv You don't have national networks covering these games so to build out a broadcasting roster you got all sorts of people coming from all over the place and the minnesota vikings they had a and the question asked is not a bad one. Although what i'm getting at overall is that sometimes you have people that aren't really equipped to be handling nfl coverage Doing nfl coverage. But in this case the question was fine enough. It was zimmer's answer. Just reminded me. Like mike zimmer a lot and be why some guys get what the preseason is about and some guys. Maybe don't zimmer gets it and he keeps it real. Play that back. NFC North Football Preview: How Do You Judge in a Small Sample Size?

"It didn't take us long in twenty twenty one to get our first best bet winner this season. Remember that yes. We keep track of these things around here. We don't just sweep them under the rug windsor losses. I know it was a unexpected quarterback. That was not supposed to play that showed up but fortunately he didn't have much to offer after just two or three days of camp. That was an interesting story because we didn't think callum on was going to play. The actual vikings team site reported at seven. Pm on the twelfth that it was unlikely he was gonna apply. No one who is going to play. Except mike zimmer who threw him in there and played them almost three quarters after jake browning threw up all over himself so it was a good start to the season getting that out of the way we kind of talked about this a little bit past the the wind right like that's what everyone wants. Everyone wants to win a game. We gave out a pick close three. And i think that's really the important part of this when you're trying to figure out information to follow because there's never going to be a long enough sample size of anyone your tailing for singular season if you're listening to him on the radio or podcast or video. Wherever you're consuming your. You're gambling information. There's never going to be a long enough sample size. So how do you judge in a small sample size in. It's like are you beating the closing. Are you listening to information that might pop or break days after that information comes out and i think that's the interesting part about this podcast because last year i'll be candidate off top of my head. I was looking at the sheet earlier. And i think we released forty six best bets. Last year we won a third of a position for the entire season. It was our worst season today. But of those forty six best bets only to move against us and one was covert related. Every other game moved in our favor so while it was our worst season it was one still profitable in to the thing. You're looking for over short sample sizes. We crushed the closing line. Virtually every single time.

"Valuable. They're great run stopping defensive. Tackle it does it just kind of makes everyone's life easier when you when you take those guys and it's not. It's not super exciting. I don't know if anyone was You know throwing a party over landing dalvin tomlinson here but he just takes care of the like that obnoxious little things stopping the run. Nobody cares about it anymore. But you have a guy who does it matters it is. It's like the central like an. It's weird like in know gentleman. A great point. A few shows ago about more teams. Drafting these off ball linebackers. I think you call that last year. When we were taping the weakside podcasts. Like watch all these teams now Draft extra off while i'm backers because the buchan ears are doing it and you know what was the central point of all that right. Was that the tampa bay could stop the run down the stretch. They were the one team. And i hate to sound so anti analytical here Like almost the point where this is. What terry bradshaw. This is what it must feel like to be him every day. But like you have to stop the run like you do. It's not like it's not a tired cliche that you have to be embarrassed about saying like you have to be able to do that. And that's why there's a reason that some of these guys are so extraordinarily valuable. So i'm a i'm staying in minnesota for for my pickier and i'm actually going to pair patrick peterson. Emba shod real. Here it's just going to be really interesting year for the vikings and we know how they want to win games. How they wanna do the stylistically That mike zimmer dies a little inside every time kirk cousins drops back to throw pass. So they're going to try and do it with heavy run game and and with his defense and obviously we saw the defense slide back a little last year they had this this huge defection of cornerbacks independent backfield..

"But he certainly didn't finish as a top of quarterback last year or you mean a quarterback eleven our wants. He looked kirk cousins to i think. Two of the last three years has supported to top twelve wide receivers. He's at six point touchdown last year. Which was the highest of his career. Definitely the highest of his career. He is more of a efficient type of quarterback low volume. And what you saw you know. In two thousand nineteen was that the volume was simply too low. Four hundred and forty four attempts that he was it like that. So low for a starting quarterback. Especially when you're talking about fantasy purposes now they were. They had to let it rip more this past year because the defense was so bad. The defense is going to be improved. Kerr i'm with you. i'm not drafting. i mean. I haven't i haven't projected right on that fringe as a as a top twelve guy. But he's far more suited for if if you had cousins as your number two guy in a super flex league. I'm very happy about that. It's very solid and you can probably wait a little bit on that. But you're not taking them as a one despite all the weapons around does. Remind me a little of the old big ben debates okay because big ben kirk cousins or not running the ball right. There there passers. Sometimes you have even matt ryan. Sometimes you have the higher touchdown total year. He had a couple of number five finishes in washington last year. Battles into the top twelve at eleven has big time weeks but for some reason you know you just don't know when that fluctuations necessarily gonna happen. I kind of buy into the. The narrative jason's brought up a lot. This off season last year was a very weird. Mike zimmer defensive year right. They were awful. They were the They spent forty one million dollars in guaranteed money to fix the defense. So that zimmer doesn't have a heart attack watching what they did last year where there were twenty nine points again. Here are some of the points given up by the minnesota. Vikings roger forty three forty thirty one. Thirty one. thirty three fifty to thirty five like these are not numbers that we have ever seen. From a mike zimmer defense. And you're right andy. I mean you paid a lot of you went out and you know you talk about teams like watch their transactions. You know the money where their mouth is thing. They are at least attempting to massively fix the defense that was horrific last year. Which is what scares me for. Justin jefferson taking another step forward into st- fantasy statistic glory or kirk cousins repeating the the high passing attempt number over the year prior. I think this is a team that prefers to run the ball and was not able to as much last year. Because they're giving up thirty plus points on the reg an interesting observation for on kirk cousins. Say andy or saying he. He doesn't run. Which is absolutely true but he did have some really high level. Fantasy finishes in washington rushing touchdowns. I remember he had those three straight years of four or more rushing touchdowns and didn't cook in washington and ape like statistically the real big difference between washington and his minnesota time like the most glaring differences those rushing touchdowns. Yeah and last year. He had thirty five plus passing touchdowns it was the lowest fantasy. Finish ever for a quarterback to have that ccr eleven. So things have to go perfectly right for him to be outside the tin. That's where i'm starting to just the brakes. Dalvand cook is being drafted number. Two overall everywhere. Three hundred twelve carries fifteen hundred yards sixteen touchdowns last year with another forty four catches and a touchdown through the air high floor. That's what alvin could gives you. Only two games outside the top twenty four but still a huge ceiling..

Paris All finished off his college career with a first team All a cc selection size is not the issue at 643 22. Neither are his strong hands or nimble feet. Scouts just wish Tarasov finished plays better. I love this picked by by Minnesota, and there's no excuses this year. They have to go back and make the playoffs. Now. I know that this team and this conference is much tougher the NFC than it is the A F. C when you look at the amount of playoff spots that are open, But you look at this offense now. Kirk cousins, not great. But he could get to the playoffs. You got Jefferson. You got cook. You got dealing. Now you're adding another offensive lineman, and Christian Dara saw Mike Zimmer. I don't You know, when you look at coaches that have pressure on in this year, Mike Zimmer is close to as you know, right to the top of the list because it seems as every year it's make the playoffs. Mr Players make the playoffs missed the playoffs. He's got to get that defense cooking once again in 2021 between him and Spielman. They they're both gonna feel it. I still feel that for all of the offensive weapons that they have For everything that this team does. They're going to put up points. They're just inconsistent. The Minnesota Vikings have just seemingly been an average team. They haven't gone over that hump. I don't know if they will. I don't see summer there for long to be honest, and I look at Darius Oh, here's why I also like the Dara saw pick he seasoned. He was one of only nine true of freshman offensive lineman to start week one in the FBS in 2018. He's a 20 21st team, all SEC player. He started every game he played in each of the past two seasons. So 24 games Starting at the college level at the offensive line spot the Steelers pick is in. We're going to stay put here, guys, we could take a break. I we're gonna take a break and we'll find out who the Steelers are going to take when we come on back. Is it running back? Or is it an offense alignment to help Big Ben? "Miss all of those games so yeah it's worth looking into because pass attempts skyrocketed and he was really good down the stretch. Anyway dave who are some players right now that you have. There's a lot at stake with whomever they hire there. Some on every single team. That has that has coaching vacancy in minnesota. I want them to hire somebody who's aggressive and will want to put the ball in the air a lot so that justin jefferson can repeat what he did as a rookie. But mike zimmer is gonna have his way. I mean we. We've already seen night. He's gone through three offensive coordinators over the last couple of years. And each one like zimmer wants done his way more often than not. Now maybe zimmer realized at the midway point of this season we've got this special talent and justin jefferson and we've got a just we gotta let go or he realized we score points because my defense is very good. I i would imagine the zimmer is going to be able to restock that defense it makes me a little bit nervous about the offense being as aggressive with the bass and if they have a conservative playcaller in minnesota that'll limit target opportunities for all the bass catchers minnesota and. We're gonna talk about all of them. It's feeling on top of jefferson served. "He hasn't really I think taking them to that next level like they thought he was going to when they signed him. It's a lot of question marks in Minnesota in this offseason. Yeah, and look, they're obviously going to be some fingers pointed at Kirk Cousins, just giving his seeming inability to come up big when the lights are brightest. But to be fair to him and that Vikings offense I believe their top five in the league this year. I mean, they've been able to move the football extremely well. Gary Kubiak and what he's done with Dalvin Cook. I mean, that was a foregone conclusion that that they were going to be able to figure that sort of marriage out. But their offense is done really well, for the most part the season. The problem is their defense, which is what Mike Zimmer's really known for. They haven't been able to stop a soul, the season and any time they've needed to get stops. They haven't been able to do it. And look, I know the Saints offense is good, but we saw it in that Christmas Day game. I mean, Alvin Kamara and that Saints offense could do whatever they pleased at any moment in time. And unfortunately for the Vikings, that's been the case for just about everyone they've played. And when you've got a defense that can't stop anybody. You're not gonna win a whole lot of football games, no matter how well you move the football. No. And you weren't here last week, but we talked about this. I thought it was very telling, but also surprising, surprising and telling, I guess is what I'm trying to say is that after that game Mike Zimmer said that this year's Vikings defense was the worst that he's ever coached. I just thought, man it just I don't know. I just I wouldn't say that even if you don't if I thought that was true, I just did something me personally again. I'm not a head coach. I wouldn't say that publicly that that's just me and makes you wonder, you know, is this coming from a guy that knows he's probably going to be on the way out. Or does he not care? I I don't know. I know. You know, Mike Zimmer is not a big Media fan anyway. Doesn't like dealing with that part of the job. He gets chapped very easy. But that really surprised me to hear him say that No and you're you're absolutely right. And especially considering how young that defense is, too. Aye. That's the one saving grace for them is there's obviously a lot of room for improvement. Just given how money in experience guys in rookies got a lot of time on the defense this year. So look, there's room for growth. It's not like this is a defense that started a whole bunch of 30 plus year olds and You know they're clearly not going to get better. You have a lot of very young pieces on this defense and some talented pieces, So I think it's only a matter of time before they get better. The question's going to be is Mike Zimmer, the one who's sort of Presides over that hopeful improvement, All right, so we'll keep you posted on that 31 to 29 the Vikings on front on top of the Lions in Detroit. Meanwhile, The Giants defense after giving up a big run to an adult in the Cowboys had the ball 1st and 1st and 10 at the 11 and the Giants defense stepping it up. They made a couple of really nice plays, including a nice coverage shack, and they forced the Cowboys to kick a field goal and Greg Zuerlein Just did that moments ago, 36 yards out, So the Cowboys do not take the lead. They have to settle for a field goal. And they still trail the Giants 20 to 19 at MetLife Stadium so big stop there for the Giants defense against the Cowboys. Meanwhile, we've been talking And we never really talked much about the Patriots and the Jets recently. But while we've been talking Andrew, the Patriots and Cam Newton's final game Cam Newton, likely making his final start with the Patriots has thrown two more touchdowns in the Patriots are now blowing out the Jets early in the fourth quarter. 28 to 14. Diamondbacks' Madison Bumgarner secretly competes in rodeo events

"Arizona Diamondbacks left hander Madison Bumgarner has been competing in rodeo events under the alias Mason's Saunders and even one of twenty six thousand five hundred sixty dollars and a team roping competition in December according to a story published Sunday by the athletic Bumgardner was told I told the website that he has discreetly competed in rodeos for awhile including in March of last year two days before pitching for the San Francisco Giants in a cactus league spring training game he's been roping since he was fifteen or sixteen and said he's been added so long that quote it's just part of who you are he's the twenty fourteen World Series MVP if he agreed to an eighty five million dollar five year contract with the Diamondbacks this past December and I'm sorry Courtney if I was the diamond backs I wouldn't be thrilled to find out that my ace left hander yes competing in rodeos in the offseason this is the same guy who got injured on a dirt bike do not remember that when he was with the giants and that was a serious injury that put him out for a very long time no wonder he was performing I guess you want to call that under a pseudonym or a fake name because had you found out about this the Diamondbacks might not have spent eighty eighty five million dollar a gigantic sum over a five year contract on this guy I mean it doesn't make any sense like I understand the thrill of competition and this is who we is but these risky things every sport has stuff like this written into players contracts that you cannot do I mean I always go back to when it when he got hurt in San Francisco a few years ago do you remember the month Taylor's thing when he was with the warriors he fell off the scooter when he went back to Mississippi for the offseason S. lied about it yeah that was a story that came to mind and I feel like any time something like this it comes to the light I'm not one of these people is like all the cool funny look how cute of the story is I'm like what is he thinking like you get injured and made these you know these are animals eat these things have a mind of their own they're powerful they're strong and certainly he's you know well conditioned and knows how to be around horses but you know that to me is way too big of a risk if I'm a professional athlete you know the prime of my career to take but you know he's done it before and that he is you know we don't really get that much of outside having serious injuries at receiver big penalty from the team for you know the motorbike thing according to have the details how did he come up with the alias of Mason's Saunders instead of going with you know his own name Madison Bumgarner sell it this came from directly from the athletic article that broke the story said quote if you competed as Madison Bumgarner every phone camera in the area that would have been trained on him he said so he devised Mason Saunders the surname is the maiden name of his wife Allie Mason is a shortened version for Madison and it's something allegedly his wife called him out in public so people don't recognize them so very clever I'll give him that but I don't think the whole thing is a buzz saw her story totally bizarre and the other thing is you know if this was an NBA player everybody would recognize them already because NBA players are actually recognizable it just goes to show you how anonymous baseball players are that the most clutch postseason pitcher maybe of all time can compete in rodeos and nappy racket I think what I know it's wild lake in the in the fact is here like he continues to go what do these very risky things it just doesn't seem to care yeah if you get caught I mean there's the photo in that athletic article where he's smiling and you know he's with I guess that it's a two person thing that team roping so I hope twenty six thousand dollars I hope that Madison Bumgarner did not keep that for myself given the gigantic contract he just signed in December the but yeah he looks he's not there we is in this picture I mean I just think it's hilarious how almost incognito so many baseball players can live their lives in that matter just because they blend in because they're not these gigantic athletes by and large I mean they're not six eight or you know they don't think Shaquille o'neal out there everybody would be able to tell if you're you know for the most part with NBA athletes I just don't understand why when you have hit the genetic lottery anyway to be able to throw the ball a hundred miles an hour the end and to be able to make eighty six million dollars really it's more than that doing this why you would ever risk your body or put like what your fans in your organization is rooting for on the line so recklessly and you pointed out he already ruined the giants season aired my fantasy baseball season which is far more important Courtney by falling off of that dirt bike a couple years ago and here he is I guess he says I'm just going to live my life and Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen told the athletic that quote he was not going to get into discussing specific contract language but you pointed this out that we know the player contracts have I can't imagine that the Diamondbacks are cool with their ace pitcher also being a rodeo road being a cowboy literally let alone they don't want to be a Dallas cowboy let alone in being a literal cowboy well I just remember a couple years ago at the end I felt combine whistle and was talking to Mike Zimmer about you know the quarterback situation at that point he had said that Sam Bradford had a degenerative knee I come to find out later that offseason I was speaking with Kyle Rudolph who said that he went skiing with Sam Bradford that off season right around the time of the combine so I'm thinking to myself you are here you are a health concern and you're going skiing or you could very easily risk tearing your ACL for a third time and you already had your season cut short because of injury like I wonder if these guys just do it for the thrill or maybe they just don't care because they have ungodly amounts of money to begin with if they feel like they can the kind of invincible they can do whatever they want but you do wonder like this has to be in contract language if you cannot do things like this because we know across sports there's certain things you're just not able to do I it's a liability reasons you ever been to a rodeo Courtney I half I went Mississippi when I work down there the show but county fair rodeo I've been to the Cheyenne frontier days shout out if you're listening in Cheyenne Wyoming on the ESPN radio affiliate there I gotta tell you it's oddly it is oddly entertaining but the the thrill of it is almost that you think that the that the ball right is just going to charge and block these cowboys into next year it is one of the most dangerous things I have ever seen and I never in my life once thought you know what it be cool to jump in there with these bowls and try to try this on for for my but how do you even practice you know you kind of just have to get in there and and take it on right yeah I guess I guess so what I mean I've seen the photos of Madison Bumgarner I'd taken the horse around the warning track at AT&T park when he was still a giant I just think that that's who he is this is got this guy is a country bumpkin at heart from North Carolina and I I just think that he grew up this way and it's always gonna be a part of him so he feels like Hey I'm an able bodied individual and I also have more money than anybody at this rodeo thing I'm gonna do what I want and it's somebody else take issue with it I'm sure they actually would found out about it right now well look I know why it's so good in the clutch in game seven of the World Series because if that that's nothing compared to facing down the eyes of a bull

Cowboys to move on without Jason Garrett

"Jason Garrett's time up as coach of the Dallas Cowboys Edward a reporting Jerry Stephen Jones have decided coach will not be part of the organization moving forward on Friday and paid Simmons on why this process lasted so long after the season to other Jerry and Stephen Jones have moved slowly out of respect for Jason Garrett you know they have a long history with him as a backup quarterback you to this is that coach a head coach's father was in the organization when Jerry bapa team as a scout and they finally concluded that phase of this process and that's going to end with Jason Garrett not being a part of the organization beyond his expiring contract and when exactly they make that announcement I thought sure what I've been told soon and that the next phase will have them moving into the process of interviewing candidates in the battle begin quickly after phase one is totally finished off yes was contract set to expire January fourteenth status with the team at issue since last February the cowboys didn't give a contract extension they missed the playoffs in twenty nineteen finish eight neighbor the four time in his tenure as coach Keyshawn Johnson on the job candidates and Jerry Jones himself he was on sports and we stand ready to make a decision on it there was the eight their long term in the obvious would clearly felt that their work you say while they waited till Thursday well the food that just won't really it just is so you kind of say okay take a deep breath we get back to the facilities we talk about a little bit we think about we pondered overnight we need or Thursday we meet on Tuesday we meet on Wednesday we have a conversation and we finally so you know women the best thing for us to do if not give the public what they looking for what they looking for me to do is be extremely mad and walk out of there on Sunday night if fire you on the tarmac so instead of doing that this call wait a couple days are you playing for the cowboys you're familiar with Jerry Jones and and and his thinking all what happens next now in this search for the next cowboys head coach I think a guy like Mike Zimmer Minnesota Vikings head coach could potentially be a candidate you say how could that be well I I II coach there in the deepest corner along try defensive coordinator for Jerry Jones is the bill Parcells fact either stay here they know what they're getting in that particular coach but also there's a young officer coordinator in cabin step band he this sitting there in Minnesota the Minnesota Vikings don't want to part ways with him they don't want him all of a sudden start to get interviews and become a category another team so I would be surprised if somehow might dimmer wind up being the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys in the cabinet she takes over as the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings so a lot of story lines this call come about here over the next with date but I think this time around you will get the head coaching job right where the coach may be season one more before we go do you think that at this point Jerry Jones is ready to surrender more control to a head coach now then he has been willing to in the past as bill Parcells left and and I want to turn this on your stamina I am right now status is not a defense Jerry Jones was some what he is and even as well as we clay as well as Jerry junior what is your you Jones gone wrong with that organization other than the head coaching hire that's a very good question that's very good everybody everybody everybody said here you're you're here the one on that team thank you for calling the latter team for the National Football League I would I would argue and say that their top five channels it is four tally dole is a National Football League the problem is that head coach because you're you're not holding the plate yeah well that gives the player is a free pass for having innate need season the talent on the field didn't win enough games he and Garrett will finish as the second longest tenured and second most winningest coach in team history Tom Landry a record of eighty five and sixty seven the wonders to playoff games unable to get past the divisional round Mike wells Myron Medcalf on Freddie Fitzsimmons the Dallas Cowboys there you know they draw attention but the the the days of being America's team and wanted to be part of what is age and it's not the same anymore it is not the same strictly because of what you have to deal with away from just coaching of football team is not simply you know put together a strong staff the coaster brakes of Amari Cooper Ezekiel Elliott and dak Prescott it's also having the answer constant questions from your boss the owner Jerry Jones deck could become a headache when you're you can't simply just focus on the task of putting your team in the proper position the try to have success there's a side show that comes with it and some people are built or not built to be able to deal with that so you got to find the right coach who is not only a great Exynos guy but somebody who's mentally strong enough to handle the constant you know looking over the shoulders and the pestering of your boss meddling in the inside of things wonder why things are not going well or to give us suggestions on what you should be doing that's not something easy that everybody can handle that type of situation well it and not everybody wants it and that's why I think a lot of these cultures your Matt rules related rallies urban Meyer's why except that to me if you're not going to modernize the structure of your organization so that your owner can do what every other owner does and take a backseat and not be this forward facing figure who's hosting its own press conferences after the game sometimes undermining the head coach then then how can you expect to attract a great candidate bomb out rule no one eight I'm leaving Baylor I got a chance to build something there if I'm leak in Raleigh I'm in Oklahoma and every year I get a chance to go to the college football playoff leave in Oklahoma where I can coach for another decade at least about continue to succeed ever murmur Meyer I'm not leaving LA or on the TV analyst making good money watching a lot of football injuries bouncing around the country see a lot of teams to go to Dallas where I've got a deal with Jerry that's why I think it's going to be difficult if Jerry Jones wants to continue to be Jerry Jones I don't think Mike he's going to end up with any of the top candidates identifying potential replacements Bobby carpenter and fox college football reporter Bruce Feldman gas on Freddie impede Simmons Stephen Jones Jerry Jones offered that coaching job urban Meyer she would say I think that's a hard job to say no urban probably wouldn't be needing to be for another year is that all you but who knows enough the big job at the glamorous job and remember the nose you know damn owns his courage and damn ongoing expound acted it all back thank god yeah I was supposed to do the oil itself journal part of mine and to buy that it was offered so you're going to want to meet your need to guide it was a proven track record we've done it before who's been in the playoffs the only guy that I look at the newest hires cycle that's really available is Mike McCarthy and it's free thank god I'm not that I'm not the biggest Mike McCarthy stand the world but he's the only guy that it holds no one Barty and that is the only thing that Jerry Jones once he is getting older is that you know you if you spend more time on this earth that he's going to spend has the last was starving if you get that oracle Marty troche with them of the order would love to put it in there Mike you've done that you chose to leave and you've been in the playoffs he's done a good job that would be my selection I don't know if they don't know what it does do checks all

Jerry Jones cryptic about Jason Garrett’s future, says he ‘will be coaching in the NFL next year’

"Listen to the cowboys started the season with high expectations. That is a true statement but now it's a season that has devolved into a race to win the worst division in football. Here we go. That's where we start. Cowboys said at six and six after a disappointing home loss to the bills on Thanksgiving Day and has Dallas prepares to face the bears Thursday night. Jerry Jones continues to answer questions about the future of his head coach Jason Garrett look where we are with our skill set eh look it up toward they are with Ayers and there's nothing to my mind that jumps out of me that we can't be playing well enough to take it to the house Think about there's no exclusive but he's got exclusive skills to get the job so the collectively so you could but they're qualified people WANNA opinion. It'd be coaching Jerry. Jones has been supportive of Jason Garrett. I think it's fair to say that however was an interesting statement with friends like Jerry. Look Coach Ryan. We'll start with eat right in your ear. Yeah I think we should. I think that's a fair assessment. Oh ooh boy. I had my friend Jerry. Jones is not stupid. No right at all. You don't get to the point. He is in life. You don't get be this rich if you're a stupid man man. He's rich enough to not really care like Jerry. Jones knows how the things that he says will be taken. He knows that people on the outside not we'll be listening also people within his organization he understands what a statement like. JC Garrett will be coaching in this league next year. We'll we'll make everybody do. We'll make the people in the building where where where we'll be coaching Jerry coaching. Well he'd be a quarterbacks coach. Well He'd be office coordinator. What you won't see is he will be the coach of the Dallas Cowboys? And that's what matters if you're talking about Jason Garrett and being anywhere which he has done for year in in year out where we wanted him to fire Jason Garrett for being mediocre. He said he's my guy he's my coach. He will be here. I have faith in him. That soon has totally totally changed to love the way. Mike Zimmer coaches football. I don't expect to ever out coach Bill Belichick and if I can't I can't coach Bill Belichick. I expect out coach Adam Gates and not lose to him Jerry. Jones is ready to get rid of dude. Well there's no doubt that the rhetoric and the tone has changed. Now it's interesting. The Point Ryan Makes Jerry Jones. Smart knows what he's saying. You know that was true with physio Elliott as well when he made that Zeke who you know and he said I was kidding. He was kidding but he you know every every job has a morsel of truth he does know what he's saying and he understands stands out it will be portrayed and in this case I think you're right. The unwavering support for Jason Garrett has come to an end actions. Speak Louder than words. So I mean he's given us a lot of words but really the actions he hasn't. He doesn't have a contract going forward next year so he might coach but Jerry say is not going to be here but he thinks appeals kills conflict. It'd be somewhere else to me. You know he the writings on the wall when when the organization says that we have everything you need and you have to want to super bowl or bus. That's all I mean. There's not much talk about. I mean really. It's been laid out there pretty clean and and Jerry feels he's assembled he is the general manager and the owner. He feels he's like these assembled a championship team. And they're not playing like a champion right now. Does that remind you when you go through a break up and the person says you. I don't want to be with you anymore. But the next person is so oh lucky to have you it. Has that same sort of tone like you know. He'll be coaching in the league. Readers don't really probably want him here in Dallas because he has really been inconsistently early on in the season with backing him saying even as Soon as two weeks ago he was saying better things about Jason Garrett and it just seems every time they win he loves them and soon as they start losing or put together a a you know a poor performance immediately changes the tune in he. He likes to keep them on notice. But I think I don't want to speak for you but I think we can all agree that probably the end of the season if they don't make the playoffs this is probably. I'm not even sure I'm not even sure. I think it takes more than a million. It's always going deep is I believe it's always been that for Jason Garrett in this season and this is why he didn't and have a contract going forward but also understand that a huge reason that Jason Garrett is there is because he can deal with this part of coaching for Jerry Jones. And I don't think I you know I think. That's worth sort of underlining not everybody can and coach you but a coach in this league for several teams. It is a different animal when you coach for Jerry Jerry Jones and you have to take the total package. Not Everybody can do that or not and I get. You can't be there have the understand I I'll be honest if I'm there. I would have to have an understanding because it could not go the way it goes right now. Right and Jason Garrett has been able to handle that part I think into function within those stipulations. And so but you know I think I think this this relationship is coming to a close look the head coach. Come the end of the season though in this job is open. Let's let's just say you think there's going to be guys. Turn that Opportunity Down Because of Jerry Jones. I know I don't I don't believe so. But I also understand that. His more successful coaches who have had different personalities also haven't lasted as long as Jason Garrett has been more successful bay one super bowls but also all those people have left a lot earlier. Jerry needs a strong presence like a Jimmy. John's their push back. He needs strong presence for his head coach but he he is not going to have one if he mandates that things go certain way. And that's just a reality. So what he needs. The most he probably repels away. Greatest strength greatest weakness right. We see it so

‘You Have To Be Able To Throw The Ball’: Vikings’ Adam Thielen Frustrated After Loss To Bears

"Finally in the News Adam the'll and has thoughts on the Vikings kings offense after Minnesota no showed on offense against the mighty bears defense Thalen expressed some frustration ration- I'm not sure if it was with the offense of philosophy or the guy who's supposed to be throwing the ball. Let's listen it well. I think I think that's probably what's frustrating. Straight thing is is we knew that was going to happen at some point. At some point you're not run the ball for one hundred eighty even with the best running back and that's when you have to be able to throw the ball you have to be able to make place have to be able to hit the ball at the you have to do that because otherwise it's too easy for changes not Evan and Russia quarterback so we have to be we have to be able to run the ball and pass misleading cannot be won a national. It's just too easy founder. It's odd to see Minnesota struggling at at this level on ovens West. You may remember shortly before the season started. I was very high in their offense thought they could really maybe it'd be a top OP five top three number one but it's all gone totally to hell and the one thing that has really jumped out to me. That's his surprised me is that the one you could always count on kirk cousins offense was he was going to put up numbers and they were his team will move the football that is what's disappeared here and that's been to me the most surprising thing that you add Alvin Cook into the mix and we talked about it on Sunday. The offensive line obviously has issues but that they would be this inept. I just did not see this coming at all. It's fascinating to me. Cousins is a rhythm passer and he hasn't been in rhythm really since last October and I think if you read between the lines with Adam feeling he at least he may be other players at the vikings have some issues with kirk cousins right now and maybe he's not maybe it's that he's not pulling the trigger when the passes are there any cousins defense. It's not often that the past is are there because his offense of line the mixture of that offensive line that system kirk cousins isn't working yet. It's not a good thing when dealing in that same interview was kind of asked what's different this year with you guys you. You know not getting as much separation and the most telling thing is he immediately said that's not what I see. I mean he's he's saying he's opened and yeah cousins has been under under pressure. There's a good article in the athletic yesterday about it hasn't been extreme and watching that game there were many plays where he did have time and there are deep throws you would think to to give a shot to dig deal and they did try a couple of hit one and he's instead of checking the ball down and I think that's the frustration Gratien in when you have Mike Zimmer on Monday saying the same thing. You've got to pull the trigger when you're when you're talking about your quarterback that way it's I don't know there's bubbled over frustration and there probably probably is in effect that you can't really measure scientifically on most quarterbacks outside of the most mentally tough that if you've been damaged and battered and hurt for a season plus behind a line you lose some trust for them. We've seen younger quarterbacks even earlier this year after a game or two of that not act the way you'd expect them to Aaron Rodgers do it in the last couple couple years you develop bad habits and absolutely there's this one play where they do the boot action and cousins rolls out to his right and he had there's no one within twenty yards of him at that time and he immediately like fires fastball over the middle to his running back. I think it was. Cj Ham who was one yard pass the line of scrimmage and he did it like right away and that's the type of play where you just it drives you crazy. I think if you're never CJ HAMAS open though you've got to get the ball to him get it to them in space and watch the magic. That's that's the philosophy. The football coaches the world over believe. That's what's happening in the

Andrew Luck retires: Colts' personnel moves forward with Jacoby Brissett

"The Indianapolis Colts in thirteen days face the LA Chargers went out Andrew luck and with your cover percept the guy for whom they traded Labor Day weekend at twenty seventeen he started fifteen games that year after being thrust into the mix with no opportunity to learn the offense no opportunity to learn the personnel no opportunity to learn the coaches everything's on the fly for Jacoby per set it was for an eleven which obviously is not an ideal record but he played well under the circumstances and remember twenty seventeen GM Chris Ballard was still trying to dig out from the mess that Ryan Grigson had made from two thousand twelve for two thousand sixteen in Indianapolis so I think there's reason for optimism as they move forward with your cover per set they have resisted all options and opportunities to trade burset elsewhere and now they have him and now he's the guy now Chris Ballard the guy who has compiled this culture Austin made the playoffs last year made the final weight has to cover percent he understands that the office will be different without interlocutors Ballard from Saturday night we're not gonna ask you go we were said to be Angela Angela was a unique unique player but you go we were set is is a winning football player initially and he is an apple I think your would you what Andrew said Cody said is a rare rare leaders he is he's a rare human being man I know look in that moment Chris Ballard needs to say something to inspire confidence in the locker room and beyond that the colts will rebound from this but look at what they rebounded from just in the past couple of years Josh McDaniels fails on a verbal agreement to take over as coach of the team following fifth Super Bowl fifty two bad stunner on a Tuesday night and we had a hard the rumblings that you know what McDaniels may not take that job after all and they didn't and they were covered and they pivoted to Frankreich and Frank Reich has ended up being the guy who maybe should have been at the top of the list from the get go and right there was a thing or two about moving on from disappointment about changing circumstances and adjusting on the fly right was the quarterback of that game in buffalo the comeback for the ages when the Orleans wrote thirty five to three it wasn't Jim Kelly he was injured it was Frank right it was Frank Reich who was the offense of coordinator the Philadelphia Eagles in two thousand seventeen when Carson Wentz suffered a torn ACL in the middle of December the kind of injury that would derail a team's playoff run they pivoted to Nick Foles the cobble together an offense that would work in light of his skills and they won the freaking Super Bowl with Nick Foles that was the final active Frank breaks career in Philadelphia's offense of coordinator he's not going to panic he's not gonna give in he's not going to give up it was three years ago that teddy Bridgewater suffered a torn ACL at a no contact practice it's always no contact quarterbacks just a week or so before the start of the regular season and Mike Zimmer said nobody's gonna shut down the season nobody's gonna cry force we just have to go forward it was not long ago we heard Frankreich explaining that he learned from watching Tony Dungy how to stay even keel in that setting how to be the call in the middle of the storm and the importance of that message sends to the rest of people the organization now since how possible Frank break knew what was coming so already was working himself into that state of call so he could be the beacon of hope and stability for the franchise because he knows that they're going to go into the season without interlock but regardless between Ballard who has put together a top flight roster couple of all pros not just pro bowlers but all pros that were rookies last year and continuing to build continuing to finesse continuing to make that team better and yes it makes that team worse not having interlock but there's a quiet confidence between Ballard and right and also what we've seen from the cover set I'm not gonna write the colts off at look people will write them off they will have no expectations the fall off the radar screen and and and now well one hand the division to the Jaguars with the Jaguars in the Texans act the colts I think we'll still be

LA Rams beat Minnesota Vikings 38-31

"In the man cave. One of the things that's being talked about is. What happened in the the Rams showdown against the Minnesota Vikings? And what in the world is going on? This is a hint as to what happened one of the world is going on with the Minta soda Vikings. They are not what they were billed to be. And I used to cover Mike Zimmer who's the coach of the Vikings really like him when he was a coordinator with the Dallas Cowboys and boy the Vikings go out they pay a fortune for Kirk cousins. And it's it's not working out quite the way they were hoping and part of the reason is because they ran into a hot ran ram team and Jared Goff here. Listen to this connection for golf. What? Goth throws over the middle. Touchdown. What ties franchise record? Touchdown pass of the cave haram style lead thirty seven twenty eight thirty seven twenty eight thanks to the Westwood One radio network for that it was the Rams over the Vikings thirty eight thirty one and the end Jared Goff who was the young quarterback for the Rams twenty six of thirty three four hundred sixty five yards and five TD's Todd Gurley. Philadelphia Eagles, Vikings and Kirk Cousins discussed on Skip and Shannon: Undisputed

"Kirk cousins made his Vikings debut on Saturday and Denver, and look, radio only played one series, but when a perfect four, four, including touchdown, pass to step on days. Last week we should report put the Vikings number one in their preseason power rankings, and we are now joined by vox NFL analyst and former Viking, Greg, jenning. Thank you for joining us on this Monday. This is an easy question for me, but I like your opinion, is Minnesota the best team in the NFL? No, they are not. No, they're not. Philadelphia Eagles are the best team in National Football League. There are most recent Super Bowl champion. They have not done anything that leads me to believe they did not get better. They did not improve going back to the Vikings. However, if if I were to rank them, I would rank them one to somewhere around there. The NFC is so cluttered at the top right now. There's there's so many great teams that have great potential vite the Vikings being one of them. Obviously, we saw where they ended up last year. But here's why I say that they're not when you take a quarterback in case keenum who let's say he was a b to a b, plus quarterbacks his with his performance with this performance. Then you, you take him, you remove him and you insert Kirk cousins. You don't gain that much. You get better in my opinion, but you don't gain enough to where I can just automatically say you're the best team. Now, when I look at the way they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in that NFC championship game, if they have Kirk cousins, do they win? I don't think so. So I don't give them the throne just yet. They have to prove it in their schedule will let us know real soon whether or not they can handle being one of the bullies in the NFL right now they have a, they have great depth. I love their coach. Probably one of my favorite coaches in the NFL right now and Mike Zimmer. I think his mentality, his approach his his way that he has shifted the kosher there. It's permeated through every single player. Only the players, but the people within the organization, just his approach to the game in his approach to winning. And I don't think that you can just dethrone the Philadelphia Eagles with the moves that they made in acquiring Mike Wallace lowly, NADA, Michael Bennett. All these other guys, acquisitions, let alone they get Carson wins back at some point this season. And that last point. This is why say yes, gift, because I don't know the health status of Carson Wentz currently, and you look at what Minnesota's done with this. You look at their delight limb Bill Joe's Everson Griffen Harrison Smith Kendrick bar. They're loaded defensively offensively. Now they had they were, I think, pro football focus. Bleacher reports. They had the number one receiving core with the day. Rudolph bring down and cook back down and cope with having an unbelievable year before he went down. Now the the thing that separates them that a no break. Owner, if Phillies line is good, as we got next Dallas, they might have the second best offense of land. I believe Kirk cousins is substantial upgrade over case keenum substantial.
