"Transition call The market has moved aggressively towards high quality large cap high quality in particular And what the market is saying is that we're getting taking shelter The market it's got to own something right And what happens is people move to the highest parts of the land away from the flood And that's where the high quality stocks are Mike Wilson of Morgan Stanley investors meanwhile are also looking ahead to earnings Sarah hunt is portfolio manager at Alpine Woods capital investors They're looking for margins They're looking to see what's going on on the cost side Wherever you will be important but really it's how that goes through to the bottom line that people are going to start worrying about since you're starting to get more information about how this input prices are affecting bottom lines So I think that's going to be important And also what people think going forward Sarah hunt of Alpine Woods as for the economic outlook Ken taubes is with a Monday asset management Well I think that going into urine and next year were shaping up for a frankly acceleration of economic growth from the delta variant That is now seemingly backing off Ken taubes with on Monday the Dow higher by 482 points today that was a gain of 1.4% S&P 500 Index up 49 up 1.1% NASDAQ up 118 up 8 tenths of 1% Global news 24 hours a day on air and on Bloomberg quick take power by more than 2700 journalists and analysts in more than 120 countries I'm Charlie pellet This is Bloomberg This is Bloomberg Wall Street week with David Weston from Bloomberg radio Over the next 6 weeks Boston voters will witness a hotly contested campaign to determine the city's next mayor while in New York voters know that November's mayoral election is all but over We're joined now by Bloomberg opinion columnist Frank Barry who writes admitted New Yorkers Boston is beating us I took a look at the city from a different perspective which is politics And the contrast between Boston and New York could not be any different right now Boston's in the middle of an extremely close heated closely followed Merrill election between two women And in New York it's the opposite We've got an election that no one's particularly following because no one has any expectation that the outcome will be any different than what everyone believes it will be In a park that is because we have Eric Adams the former New York police captain who is the nominee of the Democratic Party and New York City is overwhelmingly democratic New York City is overwhelmingly Democrat He won the Democratic Party primary He's facing a Republican who has marginal support as raised a little bit of money not a lot But it's a race that's really devoid of debate It's not capturing anybody's attention And I think that's in large part because everyone expects that Adam is a little win running away In Boston it's the exact opposite story It's a very close race between two Democrats who both have strong bases of support One is running more from the left One is running more from the center And so it's very much a debate about Boston but it has national repercussions or overtones because it mirrors a debate that is playing out in Washington and cities across the country between the progressive wing and the party and the more centrist wing And you put your finger on the structural difference which is you have two Democrats running against each other You don't have a Republican versus a Democrat the way you do in New York City Correct So in Boston they run an election process that is often called top two or nonpartisan and everyone gets to compete on the same ballot in the first round of voting in the primary And the top two finishers no matter what party they belong to advance to the November general election So that way you're short of getting to candidates who are your two strongest candidates no matter what party they belong to In New York we run party primaries So each party gets a chance to advance one candidate The problem is the Republican Party has been weak for many decades And they often go outside their party to find someone And often don't find a strong candidate And so you end up often with a very highly competitive democratic primary And a Republican candidate who's very weak And so in New York we had a very closely contested democratic primary Eric Adams won against a very strong field including two women candidates who were close on his heels But that effectively ended the election And the November contest that will take place is basically a foregone conclusion Whereas in Boston they're getting a chance They also had a competitive primary But because they didn't give a Republican a free pass to the general election Republican had to compete in the primary same as everyone else They were able to advance to November 2 candidates who either one of them has a shot at winning this So it could be a coincidence but you mentioned it's two women in Boston New York City and its history is never had a woman mayor which is pretty extraordinary Never had a woman mayor and we came as close as we ever have this year to having a serious woman in the general election And had New York been running Boston system of elections where you advanced the top two It's very likely in fact I'd say it's most likely that one of those women if not both but certainly one of them would have been in the November election And we may very well be talking about the next one on mayor or the first woman mayor of New York So let's talk about possible reform What are the prospects of reform of the system in New York City And we should have a little disclaimer here that you worked on Michael Bloomberg's campaigns for mayor and he of course is the majority owner and founder of Bloomberg LP Parent company So that out of the way We're the prospects of changing that And a Boston kid I might ask That's right You've got another disclaimer today We've got all kinds of Alzheimer's here But it's always been an uphill battle in New York because the parties are strong and in general neither the Democratic Party organizations nor the Republican Party organizations are eager to change the system because they have certain advantages that come with the status quo I actually worked on an effort to change the system that mayor Bloomberg had supported back in the early days of his administration But for a variety of reasons it failed including running in a low turnout as a referendum and a low turnout primary campaign But it's my hope that voters will take a look at what's going on in New York And what's going on not just in Boston but in places like Seattle places like Atlanta Cincinnati Cleveland other places that run their elections like Boston are also going to have very competitive elections in November and places that run them like New York which we're seeing in Pittsburgh and buffalo are having the opposite of that having the.

"The problem with it is. I think we have taken areas in our lives where that has moved over for example in the motion area where people need permission to be able to do with mike was talking about and that really is not so because they as a person they have that permission it's not a legislative kind of thing it's as a human being but it's translated if that makes sense over into that kind of thing which is the structure within their home so for example if you are grow up in a home that's that is pretty is very conservative typically for for a lot of times for man or whatever and you're taught you know you don't cry you don't respond emotionally sensitive and all those kinds of things you you just don't do those things you work it out another way while then you run into saying You know grandpa that's lived with you for the last twenty years passes away and you've been told you can't you can't process this you know mostly at that level of crying and being sad and all those kinds of things because that's not what do in this family while mike. Can i see this all the time. Where now this you know young person. Who was you know. Thirteen fourteen fifteen at the time never got the process and were never be able to work through those issues because they were told they were never given permission to deal with that mostly so here they are twenty four twenty five thirty years old and they're having all of these kinds of issues and all of a sudden it's like you know we look at them and we say you have permission. I'm giving you permission to grief. I want you to grieve. I want you to feel it. I want you to let go of that stuff. That's there and remember. I'm giving you permission to do that. It's amazing what happens. Part of it also. In addition to permission is the skill set that is really required and the practice of the skill set that allows a person to effectively grieve or whatever the the situation allows for their children who grow up in homes who are absolutely no exceptions. Never permitted to play with sharp knives or use them. They need is cut up for them. They're carrots are sliced there. They are allowed to have a spark that has all the most dangerous tool they ever have in their hands at eighteen. They go to college and they're sharp knives everywhere and the problem is they have no skill set for dealing with sharp knives. They don't they never touched one. They don't know what they are. It's not just permission to do it. It's the skills that go into Being able to to to deal with those issues. We have a podcast. Mike and i do called gripping reality and one of the Podcast that we did have had to do with the nature of victimization..

"Any time. Great to be with you today. Look, I thought we forgot what stock splits words way Haven't had any in so long. I mean, Yeah, This is one of those weird things over time where there was evidence. There were some evidence that suggested that stocks led to better performance, Of course, cos did all that in the nineties. It was a big trend, and we haven't seen one in a while. And you know it's working now for a couple companies. Stocks have reacted positively to that. I think there is some truth to it in this environment where we have this younger cohort now learning how to invest. You know we're there. They'll have a whole lot of money yet and so they can afford a stock. That's $400 or $500. Perhaps they want to buy 100 shares. So stock splits in that sense can perhaps Dr incremental investors wishing fractional shares as a way to get around that, But you know, in reality, I mean stacks plates don't create any Bill Baggs. Here's where we've gone, folks. My grandfather used to take me down on Saturdays when Mike Wilson was working at Morgan Stanley. And there was, you know, cigars, platoons and sawdust on the floor, and Mike Wilson was sitting there with a ticker tape going through his hands. And now Mike Wilson, my daughter sitting on the couch day, trading off her laptop, You know, Data dog or whatever the stock is she loves. Today. Is that a good thing? Mike Wilson is all this Robin Hood stuff a good thing for the future of of knowledge of investment. Well, look a couple things. First of all, I think it's a very good thing that young people are learning how to invest. I mean, we want young people learning how to invest because they're responsible for their own retirement now via for one case, and you have to take charge. That's a really good thing. I think the younger generation Is all about taking charge and learning kind of as they go. I think where it becomes a bit, you know, risky and dangerous eyes where people do it in a way where they're not. You know, they're now they're not learning. They're just sort of it becomes a game and And then, of course, they could lose money that way, so I think it's good luck. Bottom line. I think more people who learned how to do this for themselves, I think is a good thing. I think it could become more democratic. Onda costs right of trading has come down dramatically, not just in the last year, but over the last 30 years, And that's definitely a good thing for the average. Paul. I know you want to jump in here, but I really got to say Paul Sweeney. The most important thing about kids getting into this is they get to enjoy the feeling of losing money Exit with little money at risk. Yeah, exactly. So, Mike, if I were, you know, young person getting into the market today, I think The lesson I've learned is Or six stocks to buy. Why do anything? Why do anything else? What do you say to that in this market? Well, look, we have we have a different view, Which is that you know, the narrowness of the market has become obvious to everyone. These are wonderful companies, and that's no longer news. I mean, it's been discovered, OK? So that tells us that the, uh the big opportunity probably is elsewhere. First of all, we do think we're a new bull markets new economic cycle, And that's true as we go into next year, the market should broad now. So we actually think the fatter pig in smaller cab companies or company that don't necessarily make up the big Party index. It doesn't mean that those six stacks can't continue do well. That's not where the big opportunity is, in our view. All right, Mike. So if you say we're in a new bull market You know the naysayers and I'm gonna put myself in that camp. I look att data like we're getting today This economy is tough. The pandemic still with us, you could take a cautious view on the whole vaccine timing thing. And you could say, Boy, this is gonna be a tough environment for longer from here. What do you say to that economic maybe a more conservative economic outlook. That's the one worry. I mean, that's the way it always is coming out of. Ah, recession you have you no fear, doubt and uncertainty about what is this recovery looks like now, Having said that I do think it's really no near term risk that could cause a correction. The first is The fiscal cliff, which were obviously you know, the Congress is trying to negotiate this fiscal package and delay just delaying that. I think we'll get past but just delaying that will reduce consumer confidence right. They're not getting their checks anymore. They don't know if it's going to be restarted and and that could lead to lower activity. The know the virus itself is still out there. Callisto focus on that. The big one. To me. The near term is not big enough yet. Is the school reopening being challenged? Okay, So we have a couple universities are now going fully online, and that could become a trend. If that pushes back into high school in elementary school, that's going to be a really kind of stalling effect on the re opening itself. And then lastly, you know, we're going to these conventions right now. I mean, it always brings out the worst. In partisanship, right? So I think that in this sort of negative feeling we're gonna have kind of going into the very tips bring back and forth. So those are some reasons why? I think you know that. Wall of worry, Right? And I need the won't worry may get a little bit more worry some in the near term, but ultimately that climbed in our view is we go into 2021 Michael's a little technical difficulty believing that too short visit will have to visit with Mr Wilson. I again? Paul? Sweetie, We've had news come out moments ago, and I know Michael Barra will have this in a bit. But it is. I think for all of our listeners across this nation stunning. This is Audrey Strauss. She's the acting United States attorney. In this Paul swinging for the Southern district of New York. As you recall, the attorney was pushed out the door. Mr Berman by the president by the Department of Justice and Outdo Strauss has taken over. And moments ago we have the news that, among others, Steve Bannon has been indicted on fraud charges. Then this over on online fundraising campaign quote, We build the wall unquote. I think that's just stunning news in the backdrop here around the two conventions, Just extraordinary. Yeah, it is. Stephen Bannon, the former adviser to President Donald Trump is among four charged overbuild the Wall group, Thomas. You just mentioned and The timing. It's never good, but this is ah, unique period of time. Here's we just finish up the Democratic nominating convention and roll into the Republican convention soon and see the election just a couple of months away. So another roadblock, presumably for the president will have to see how he responds in again on Paula. We take great pride. John Farrell Lease Abramowitz, Francine, the Quad Paul and I. That We're not experts on this, but in my reading Paul Sweeney, I get nothing but but comments that Audi Strauss The new acting United States attorney for the Southern district. She gets rave reviews is just I guess what a prosecutor is supposed to be. Yeah, it's interesting. It's AH Cancer. More headlines Crossing the Bloomberg, Tom Stephen Bannon will appear in New York courtroom today. I guess the charges, among others, Bannon used funds to pay for his personal expenses. That's per the prosecutor s O. We'll have Certainly more news on that. But big news crossing the tape. He was crossing the tape there. We wanted to bring that to you. And of course, our convention coverage tonight nine o'clock, not 10. O'clock 9 to 11. P.m. m. Maybe maybe go past that, depending on what the schedule is, they've been pretty good about the schedule..

"Addition, once again, my name is Mike Wilson. You can catch you on Twitter pigskin opinion. And we are into those kind of get in those days with baseball in once again like every week been smarter. When I talked to this guy, we are joined fussers sports, our own, John Poulter, all the way from Toronto Canada, exciting time in Toronto, there, John how news morning while. Thanks, mike. How about you? I'm doing great, just like any usually says it's just another day paradise on here, getting a little warmer in the Phoenix, Arizona area. But that's par for the course. So in terms of just real quick Toronto. Hey, exciting time for you guys up there. It's been pretty special. Not, not only have we been a number of years with any kind of championship in a major sport going back to the Blue Jays back to back ninety two ninety three would be the last time we saw a major sport franchise wind here. This is a team that has not only taken over the city, but quite frankly, it's taken over the nation. And I guess that's pretty easy to say when you only have one basketball team in all of Canada, but this has been an exciting team. It's been a great run defense apart has just been unbelievable. The number of outdoor parks with screens that have been set up for public viewing across the country and specifically in and around greater Toronto, just an immense number of them, not only is this team playing exciting basketball fans behind it and you know, they're taking on a pretty good basketball team every. He knows how successful the Golden State Warriors have been over the last five or six years going for three championships in a row and four and five and regardless of injuries to the warriors. This has been a pretty special event, and it's been exciting games. And the nice thing is that they are up three to one and all four games..

"Again, my name is Mike Wilson. Andy Dorf is on vacation, and hopefully join himself, but we are back with John Poulter of wrestlers or Swedish finished, Aachen, little major league baseball. Now we're gonna make on to be Stanley Cup finals. And once again, there's not a better tournament in the professional ranks, I think then in gel hockey and we got Saint Louis and Boston battling it out. John, what's been wants been the biggest surprise for you so far NHL finals, and the final themselves. I guess that's a very good question. I think what has probably surprised me. Mike is the difference in the game equality of the game in the style of the game. And the temple the games we've seen we've seen a couple of games that were extremely close which one game that was a complete blowout which. That three out of the five games one by the road team specifically by playing a very good road game. And I'm speaking mostly of Saint Louis in game five Boston one a big one in in game three which was the one blow out that I referred to. I think the thing that's bothered me the most about this is that once again, we've been exposed to some very poor questionable officiating by officials that supposedly should be the best in their league if they're doing the final series, you'd have to assume that they are there on merit. But we've seen a couple of situations we've seen it throughout the playoffs, but we've seen it even in the final series here between the blues and the Bruins were officials have missed calls that have been very much a factor in deciding the game. And I talked Pacific about game five. Five there was a hit from Sanford on croup to me was was very much very a shoulder into the guy's head should have been a penalty. It was completely ignored and then the terrible non call with both AC which eventually led to the blues winning goal. So I think that's been the biggest disappointment to me in terms of surprises. I think just the strength of the road team that would feed. And I guess it really shouldn't say that because we've been talking for some time how even these games are now throughout the play offs. And how much a road team is in the game just as much as the home team is. But you see a Stanley Cup final. You play all season for home ice. And all of a sudden three out of the first five games are won by road teams. I guess that's a little puzzling. But all been pretty good hockey. I quite enjoyed it. And as a neutral, observer, I can sit back and watch it and not get too overly excited about it to either up or down. And I can sit and watch a on, on an even keel and say that I've enjoyed a pretty good hockey series knowing, you know, swimming, you mentioned the referees. You know, there's always complaints about calls here and there and every professional league. But is there a way the NHL can clean this up a little bit? And not have so many, you know, challenging Paul's that calls. I mean, is there anything they can do? Well, it's kind of a kind of a good news. Bad news situation. Mike in my opinion. Yeah. There is a way to do it. And that side of to have more things go to replay or have an extra official sitting in the stands watching it in radio communication, with these guys much famous. We see in top level soccer in Europe, you kinda hate to see that happen, because it takes away some of the human factor, and is potentially going to slow the game down, which is the last thing you want. But I think we also have to recognize that the players are now so big so quick. So physically in shape the game is operating so quickly. You've got twelve twelve players and four officials on a nice surface. That's no bigger than it was fifty years ago yet. We're dealing with bigger players faster players lighter equipment ill. The whole thing, the lighting is better. Everybody should be able to see things better. So the game is quicker. There are ways to do it too. I'm not sure that any pets something we want to see..

Is the crude oil price moving higher or lower?

"It is looking like the beginning of a cruel cruel summer. Crude oil black gold is down almost twenty percent just in the last month as it crashes back towards lows of the year in with crude in such a rotten rut. We thought it'd be the perfect time to play a little game of. Oh, that's right. This is an easy game. Worry guy very simple. We go around the horn. The traders will tell us where they think crude is going, if either higher or lower. Straightforward. Right. Pete, we're going to start with you. We expand on that or just give you a higher lower an IRA starting panel. Discuss it, how giddy glass so what do you say, lower, what also lower of course guy crew, which? Yeah. Higher or lower than denominated in US dollars higher. There you go. I'm not a play the higher the interstate lower. Why lower could you scripted a better scenario for a bullish market and crew? You have Iran Venezuela dirty oil in Russia. You have teeth amount of reasons why you should be a buyer of it. Yet. It's collapsed. That's telling you something right there. So yes, you could have a little bit of a pop here, but it breaks below fifty. It's forty two next. When you say Groff's Obama. So he makes cogent argument, obviously crew should be significantly higher given what we've seen politically, and otherwise, however you had the president, jawbone at lower. And now you have a fed that's about the torch. The US dollar US style goes lower commodity go fly at why say higher, but and saying that, about the dollar as rates have come in, and as the fed has gotten dovish yet, the Dixie, the dollar index is down one and a half percent from like multi year. Highs just the other day. So I mean so you're on the dollar side of it where when I I listen. I'm also on the other side of it. I think rates are going lower. I think the dollar's gonna stay for him. I think these are like haven, sort of situations. I think they're going to continue to have this weakening data that we just had Jonathan Golub talk us through and the eight block. I just don't think that's bullish for crude right now. Yes. Young man. Raise raise my hand might have. No, because I wanted, I don't interrupt. I like the big knowledge when cool. That's what we used to do. There was a great group back in the seventies, the carpenters recall, the carpenters, Karen carpenter, brother. Why did you bring that up guy? I'm glad yes melt, because one of the great songs was, we've only just begun to bring it back to Dan, in terms of the dollar going lower, Dan. We've only just and I thank you. Yes. You're why why why is that? I was going go. But to these point crude oil just dropped ten percent in a straight line rates down. One point ten. You know, a full point in, in the last four months support. And one of the other things Steve did mention though he said, if, if it drops below fifty you'd think it goes lower. That was the if part of that whole statement. Right. So if it starts to move higher, does it go back up and testing those sixties I would say, yes, I'm with you guy because if you listen to Mike Wilson, who sits here constantly, whatever I'm here. It's like a little allemande is Palo mind he talks about the dollar all the time. And what does he say about the dollar guy going down? It's going down. It's going
