"Think of companies like this as marketing companies that sell a product right because their main job is the market the product. They don't have to worry about making it and so they get to just create new designs and so it will. They really hit it out the ballpark and they spent four point. Nine million on youtube influencers alone is from the interview. I heard right and so for the people for the people here that don't exactly know what influence or are is. Would you say it's basically somebody who has a gazillion followers. Who's for some reason. They're an authority about something. Yeah it's its niche marketing to right like They don't have to have huge followers. Just be prominent in their market whether it'd be cars or mako or whatever right if they're making a bunch of videos you pay those people. Do you pay if we do. And i like to pay people that i watch so if you pay somebody. Does that guarantee you that. They're going to give a good review now. We don't do reviews reviews. We just give product out so if somebody wants a review. We'll give you a bar for review. We don't care we don't tell you what's no no but i mean when you tell an influence our but when i pay them i'm usually paying for marketing spot right so i'm paying for thirty seconds at the beginning or the end or whatever the agreement is and they're going to just say hey this video sponsored by tibor go check them out and you'll see that nine times out of ten and most big channels youtube videos now so that price can range from two to thirty thousand dollars video in those are real numbers. The big channels are thirty. Grand this for thirty seconds and so it gets into really big numbers but the return is obviously there but is it hitting the right demographic you have to do your research right but in this case this company just do the do it out there to everybody and and it paid off big because they hit home runs with them and they lost with others in it balanced out and they did really know you don't have any desired. I mean that's not who we are. We spend our money on new machines and and building our brand that way and making new stuff and coming out with the next thing and we. We spent a lot of money on marketing. But we have a plant. I picked people. I i do pay many influencers. And i pick people that i want to work with right. I don't wanna i race motorcycles. So i sponsor on and motocross guys Some of the old metal militia guys in all these markets that i like doing like fishing. I like considine. So i'll people watch. I'll reach out and say i really like your stuff and it's not a that's not just a marketing and you think that those people have an audience that would be your audience. Although i personally i think your product seems like something that everybody could it is. It is was pretty awesome. It is but When it comes down to it. I don't have that company. I talked about at team. Tim people that did nothing but searched youtube channels right and we just don't have that we don't have ten people sit around looking for. Who can we contact today to. Send a stuffy. Okay so you can just say you have a keyboard already. You could see the letter opener feature on there and by that letter opener and put it on. Your key are right. Anyone we've made from day one okay. And and what are the costs are small keyboard. Junior is about half the size of a standard dealer and ex abouts two thirds the size. But it doesn't come with a pocket clip of our products are titanium and it doesn't come with the extended screws to get you twelve keys and only hold five keys and it can be extended. It just doesn't come with everything you need. And twenty dollars is our entry. Then they go up to the world's most expensive key or we have which is solid silver with fifty seven black diamonds and it gets crazy but our standard is about. You know forty to a hundred bucks is is where we're at and and that's gonna get you some titanium where the nice pocket clip and and then you could buy an expensive or cheap one and so you know the letter opener feature that i came up with. We were talking about giving it a name. I don't know see name. What is it. What do you want to call it i. I don't even know what he called it. So i haven't seen the website so i have no idea what he put up. There probably says letter opener. Yeah i'll tell you what it says. But i'm i'm just so honored amazed that you would just take a product that i i mean. Even though you say it takes you a year ago. Start using a machine yet. Well that was the nationally. Initial right dive into cnc machining. So this this is it says titanium letter opener insert. I'm telling you. I'm gonna call it the i'm going to call it the no. Oh my god that would be so awesome. The noah letter opener gonna totally put that on. So shaw else you wanna say to the people of the world now man. I mean there's a bunch of different people that could be listening to this. You could be you know you sell us. Cnc machines so you probably hit both types right. You hit the company's trying to buy machines and improve their processes or more production or new capabilities. Right kinda like what we're doing now and you probably get the guys that are in their garage. That really need a bigger machine in her scared or never had machine like i was are scared to to purchase one is. They're just not familiar with them right enough. And my biggest thing is you know. Have a few sayings wants. Nobody's gonna build your castle for you and so nobody thinks about it. Nobody's gonna make your life better for you other than yourself so no matter what it is your passion your drive. Don't be scared enough to not do it. There's a lot of people out there that will help you I guarantee if somebody calls you and asked you about a machine you'd have an answer you're going to maybe connect them with somebody and maybe that guy relieves the stress or worried is person had or whatever or if you have a process you can't handle i mean there's people out there that help you never really alone with the game with google nowadays and so that is some words of wisdom. Just take the if you have a dream in beaufort as a man you're not guaranteed tomorrow and and you know so if you got something you wanna do. Do it now shows from today's machining world. "I haven't learned anything. Really the reason i'm talking to you is because i called you about a swiss through machine right and i did that because i saw a video of my buddy talking about his screw machine all all. Nobody's have swiss screw machines. And i'm like man. I wanna switch through machine right and so right now. I can tell you pretty much. How the brand's interested in everything works like it's pretty much answering the question you have and i don't even have one right and it's because i go head deep into swishes for that full week because it just it was something new when something's new excites me you know. I really like to learn as much as i can. And then the next day i'm an something else piqued my interest in an but you're begging him. You're talking about employees. Yeah i mean. I've i've really liked to perfect jobs and you know. Hire the right people to do those jobs. Train them to do them right. So that's allowed me yet. Have the freedom to create and my job is to grow. My brand is to get people to back yours. You know to get into click on my videos and we have marketing people that that at post in make videos so yeah My job is to build the brand right to expand the brand I think what's next right. I don't have a huge marketing team or sales he mile. They're extremely seeing big orders. I don't have a shop manager for every department right and so at the end of the day on the business over if the machine breaks if that laser breaks. I wanna know how to fix it when a guy calls. I need to get that machine working. And if they can't take care of it is gonna come to me so go back to You told me you made some skateboards out of titanium. We got to start a. Why did you make skateboard out of titanium when you're focusing on key bars okay. Because at the end of the day. I can only make so many bars if iran machines nonstop three shifts lead. Have keyboards coming out of our ears. Right i can speed these things up slowing down. You know you as you knockabout. More machines Make many keyboards but at the end of the day. If you have a key bar or you you know you're love our brand. You love what we're doing. You wanna support us. Maybe you already have on keyboards will. That's where one of our like penholders comes in or other products we make in and so stuff that's not. Keyboards has nothing to do with the key war. You know. it gives us some other way to connect to customers so skateboards for instance. I made a skateboard. 'cause i had a piece of titanium laying around and it was fun hold it up and give me some detailed description trying to make a detailed for us. Oh what. I'm holding is a three eighths inch thick titanium billet slate right. It is about two and a half feet long about nine. Inches wide is completely honeycomb throughout on the water jet it has milling and a center with norling an engraving on the laser. And it's got really nice. A board trucks backs done as well as slanted is this. Electro ended is got all the processes in it. And the about a thousand dollar skateboard and the re yes. Why do we do this. I made this skateboard to take to a trade show and put it on the counter because at the end of the day if this sitting behind the counter is going to stop somebody that might not stop because the key bar and we have a conversation and that conversation is hey. I made that. Because i like the skateboard right. And maybe now we're into the skateboard community right. So i can now market to them with the skateboard and and it's just. I did it for fun. You must have listened to our serendipity podcasts. That's what they call a serendipity hook. Yeah where you say. Hey a mike. I make key bars. But i'm also passionate about skateboarding. Boom all of a sudden you have an entry into a whole nother conversation and absolutely but you make the skateboard because it excites and because it gets your creative juices flowing would you say that. Yeah now the reason. I make is more for learning. It goes back to learning. I when i did. I learned stuff. Momma she could do in in you and i learned a matter of fact escape were told me. Don't take stuff from the water jet to the cnc mill and expect the de- except falls to mesh properly right like that was one of the first things one of the first projects and this was all again. A lot of this stuff is me. Learning machines haven't been actually shooting my own parts but for about five years so a lot of that time is just learning what a machine is rights in the first couple of years. out the window and then We keep adding different processes so water jets lasers printing and all these different things and so we're always learning and i just learned i've i've seen air spindles before and i just really learned the capabilities of adding an air spindle tomahawks. Let's what's an what is an air spindle so air turbine makes a spindle and it is a tool cat. Forty tool that goes right into your house and it runs at sixty. Five thousand are pm off the air pressure. I think they said up to two microns at accuracy. The thing is ridiculous and you can get them in all different sizes you can even get small amount on on gantry. You know home bill units. I mean it it comes into this but it basically add sixty thousand rpm to my machine. And now i can do surfacing and engraving titanium matter of fact. I just did a surf sing routine on this keyboard and it's like a sore minute routine with a sixty thousand rpm spindle s going to be down to like two minutes And just learning about all this stuff. And i don't even i don't have it but i'm diving full into it to make sure you know when we get okay. First thing you run into his is your air compressor going to be able to keep up right. That's what you just gotta all these things. And i really like learning next stuff. Yeah will you. You told me. I thought this was so cool. You said when you were talking about the possibility of getting the tornadoes. Which by the way is the one thing you you say you're not doing right. Now is making the screws for the key bars. Only thing we we thing. We don't make the screws. Yes okay and you said the machine to you is almost like buying a new motorcycle or some. It would be like buying a new motorcycle Pretty much. I'm not going to count on. It can be for a while. Because i mean i would have to learn how to use a swiss machine and by going into it looking at it. Bike that the thing. That kind of helps me not rush right. Not try to force the machine to do. Something taught do and break something and caused more damage more delays. That's that's quite luxury. Because you know most people if they're gonna spend a hundred thousand dollars for a machine they're gonna wanna.

How's it going pleasure to be here. Thank you thanks so much for doing it. I actually met mike last week. He contacted us about a tornado. Swiss machine reselling a gt twenty six and Got to learn about his company and it seems like it's it's really a a special thing and people in our audience. They're always interested in learning about other companies that have products some people. Consider that like the holy grail. If only i had a great products and obviously there's positives and negatives about everything just to get started. I want to get a quick summary of what a key bar is herman. Then then we'll talk a little bit about the story of it. And then all of grill you about the specifics. Keep our is basically like a multi tool style key holder. so it's a key holder comes in all different types of nonferrous metals. Where you can get everything from aluminum up to titanium and whatever your choices are there so you take it apart. Put your keys inside of it and expandable so you can put more keys less keys and then we make about. I'd say about thirty different tools to go into it as you know. We're always adding different accessories and different things to add to it on has a pocket clip so the full sized keyboard comes with the pocket clip. And there's three pocket clip options for your reference carry won't for people listening and most of the people on this are listening. Correct me if it's not a very good way of summarizing it but it kinda reminds you of a swiss army knife no blades but keys. Maybe a blade thrown in here. But that's how it opens up like. Switch it up and there's a different key or a different tool. Would you say that's a good way of putting it. Yeah perfect example but Kind of like a jack knife you know you. Think of a jackknifed pay folding knife right to keep our kind of started. Because i got into customer knives and making pocket knives and i wasn't a very good knife maker and i was like man but i can make a keyhole right so just getting started. That was what i did and Actually working in the hotel industry right. I love the story. So give us the origin. Now you were. You were working in a hotel. Yeah we didn't even actually tell you the whole story so it's a website but basically one day. I went to the restroom. And i went to ten stall now. Drop my pants and three stalls down. Somebody said hey mike when we're going to watch you. Were working as the head of maintenance at a hotel yeah. It was a director of engineering four Four hotels at the time. And so i ran the maintenance department so you had a lot of keys at fifteen keys and screwdrivers and all kinds of stuff and mainly the keys and so everywhere i went. I was holding my keys and they were jingle genuine right. Soak that day when he asked me. When we're going to launch from three stalls down. I was like yeah. I'm gonna fix this problem and another issue. I was having is i would go into the shop of like this everybody would be working and when i got in there you know it was wasn't a lot of work to be done and so they would hear me human and they would just all hustle to start working because i heard my case so it was really fun. Yeah i Had a problem. And i solved it all of a sudden everybody wanted him and it just kind of exploded that first couple years at a time. I didn't know anything about machines. So we're on a machine podcast right. Didn't i had zero knowledge of a emil backup. Mike backup so okay. You had this problem and then you went home one day. And what were you looking at a pocket knife. And then this a whole nother. Podcasts this actually. It did start with pocket knives and i actually taught pocket knives There was a contest of karma. Pumpkin show a video. You carving it with us and you could win all these. It was like six thousand dollars worth deniers from about thirty different people long story short. I carved a pumpkin underwater and won all these knives and then i was introduced into the knife world and then so i was like this is amazing and one of those things. One was a to blades show. So that's like our i. Mts right knife is the biggest night show in the world. every anybody. who's anybody in. A nice industry is at the show. And i got thrown into it head. You know you got. I got to see all these different processes that and heard about things machines and tools and materials. I had never heard of before. And so i took some material home and i made a keyboard out of end so then everybody wanted to keep our and then it became a business which i was never expecting it to be it was it was dissolved. My problem and when. I was making more money at night grinding these things. 'cause i was going. Hey i was going to home depot by bar stock again. I was saying. I didn't know what a grinder i didn't know what a machine was. I had no idea so. I was going at home. Depot by bar stock grinding. It out on a one by thirty from harbor freight drilling holes and holes. And i was making these things by hand originally and found out about water jedi ernie and then there is company locally order jed and he made for me. I still had to do all the corner. Radiuses and tapping and everything then found out about cnc machines and it went it just it just keeps going and every day..

"Hit germany I loved germany Again coached there for ten years. Henry grow very good friend very very happy for him. I think there was not a lot of expectations on these guys coming in because the nba stars. Let's say dennis schroder daniel ties maxi kleber. Not with the team and what germany has done. This summer is a great testament team. Basketball against the next generation guys they're mo- wagner has played well Mallow who's who's an overseas point guard has done. Well andy three three point shooter from rasha. Formal has has played well. But it's it's really a team effort again. I think if we see the way game plans from different teams have been tried to put in place. They have a good blueprint with. But it comes down to personnel. And i just think this slovenia's going to be too much for them in this quarter quarterfinal game so you have you have again so vigna france. Spain analysis. You rooting for us. Which i am. I want them to win. But i do think it's going to be if they win. It's because it's fantastic. One on one individual play do you. Just that is the question. do you just like. Hey listen not try and reinvent ourselves. Let's just go get buckets. Ellis and defenders. that goes. that's coach k. Did like. I can't. I can't make them make the extra pass that they're supposed to make. I can't make them make the extra movement that they're supposed ads. so just go get buckets. I think you said it earlier when when they were so athletic and pressuring defensively and could get out in transition. But they don't ramsey but they don't have the like like damian lillard is not that guide offensive right by so if their best five. If you know you're going to do what lillard k. D. draymond who your other to be doing Main you're gonna do drew holiday. Jason tatum cable like jason. Everybody wants jason. Tatum be kobe. Bryant a whole other end of the floor that kobe bryant was ten times. The player of jason mike. Here's the problem in order for them to play like the old. Us eighteen play Was a great defensive player. You know and actually really good. European events lurks so physical. He can be surface. Kobe bryant the great defensive player Mellow wasn't but if he's your fifth best defense. Breyer like euro. Okay and can you can be very very physical you but you look at these guys and lillard and tatum. Answer not great defensively. And that's not what they do not who they are. They can't allah sudden. Gee a remake themselves in the short period of time and you know what's interesting is okay when you watch team usa. They're trying to play a lot of same size lineups where they do. All kinds of switching switching these european teams are so smart. They're going to okay. You wanna switch. We're going to find the match up. We want in most at a time. It's on those act. But france attacked in the post france. The mismatch and again when they play big like that against spain has the possibility to play. Big screen can play big if they can't match manhandled play zone but team. Usa the issue for me again. You point to it pressure defense. Get out and tree offense from your defense. Take the pressure off and a half cuarto. Let the guys play a little bit. If that's the usa game plan. Now you're saying switch switch switch and look at the end of the game against france you're up seven and you're switching not only on the ball but off the ball those and line the inbound place and they switch and -fornia ends up wide open in the corner again. You've gotta have the defensive discipline tough news especially in winning time to guard without switching. Keep your matchups as they are. I think it's the easy way out. It's okay we're used to switch it in the nba. And then whatever but these are money possessions you gotta be able to defend what toughness and physicality and to me. That's an issue. If tina hasn't mentality play the same size lineups and switch everything. These teams are going to be ready and they're going to make him pay. Awesome stuff are You don't have to commit to it but if you'd like to join us after these games that would be awesome In in the meantime you're the best really appreciate it. "Building a new set of wedges. That sounds pretty awesome. I mean who wouldn't gearhead? Who wanted to do that? I don't know how much longer our careers are. I love doing. This still thought about that at all. No my father asked me not long ago. How much longer are you going to do this? And I'm like a while he goes. That's what Tiger Woods has had people in his past his former caddy and his former coach that he doesn't stay in touch with at all people in tigers past sometimes. Don't stay there forever. But Has Mike Taylor stayed there. He is has he gotten his do. I. I mean I don't personally don't think he's gotten as do. I hope this story shed some more light on on. Who Might Taylor is? Because I feel like it's important to point out the people and Tiger's life that helped him succeed Hank in Butch in the instructors are a huge part of Tigar's career at different points in his career. Obviously but but Mike was was a big part of his career during his Nike Golf Days. And I feel like it's important to highlight these people who helped make the tools for him. You know there's the thing that I that I believe kept Mike. Within the inner circle is bike was never afraid to Kinda dishes back tiger. Tiger's you can always tell when tiger liked you because he would kind of needle you in Mike Was Totally. Find giving it right back. Mike told a story of when he was grinding. A Wedge for commercial. Now if you ever watch a golf commercial in you see Bob. Key for instance grinding a wedge on a wheel that wheel which has a really rough surface to it if you jam that wedge against that wheel it's GonNa make the sparks fly now. You would never do that. Because you're going to ruin a wedge. Mike he gently kisses the wedge in certain spots to kind of give a just the right amount of bounce just the right amount of hustle transition. This is not what you do for for television. You want sparks. So Tiger was in the build shop for one of these commercials and Mike is Grinding a wedge on the wheel making the sparks fly and Tiger looks at him and says wait. Was that one of my wedges and Mike Bite basically dead pants. Of course it is and tigers is get wide as saucers invite just keeps a straight face and afterwards he finds out that bikes joking but again pike wasn't afraid to kind of have these these kind of fun interactions with Tiger. The time you know he has it he. I asked him. He hasn't spoken to tiger. And a little while. But you know he said that Tiger Tiger's still speak about golf equipment. Whenever Tiger has questions about equipment he reaches out to Mike. They still have that relationship even now with him at tailor-made and again I think that bond was forged early on because Mike just wanted to make tiger happy and make them good golf clubs. He was never in all the guy. There was never anything else there except for for Mike just wanting to help tiger be the best that could be. I love that I also love that. You called their bond forged nice little golf club Pun to wrap up this week's drop zone. Thanks John Wall for joining us and thanks to you for listening. We'll bring you another fun story next week right here on the drop zone..

"Again. If you're if you're somebody who's deepen the gear culture you know who might Taylor is. He would say he's a little bit of a of a cult hero if you've been lucky enough to meet him it's probably been at some sort of press junket a grinder grinds clubs for a living but he is literally but he's the. Kinda guy that likes to do the work. He doesn't like the accolades he usually always tries to pass him off to the player. Even though you might not know who he is some of the greatest golfers in the world relied on Mike Taylor for their success. I like golf because it's process. It's a process that it starts with a beginning and I got to see the final result. It's not where I just make one little part of this. You know you're you had some control of how a number of components ended up creating a valuable tool for someone if you see Tiger Woods. Winning Taylor has played an important role in the tools that he's using to those targets. So what role is he actually playing like? I don't see him. I don't see him get mentioned. I don't know of him until you write the story. Like what role is he playing? So so Mike Taylor is what we like to call a master clip maker so before the iron had ever receives the stamping on the back for for the manufacturer or any sort of tweaks to the top line when you look down at the golf club the line on the top of the club or the sole how place you the turf. Mike is the guy who takes those blank virgin heads in gives them that personality that the tour players at Tiger Woods wants Tiger Woods wants personality in his golf clubs. What does that mean so so tiger woods may be the most meticulous in Personality Professional Golfer in the history of the game. I think I it has to look good in a plane. Okay so the next one is how does it feel when I walk my hands of the only? That's touching off club and I've been trained to trust my hands hit shots you know normally throughout a couple and then he find a couple and you kind of tweak them a little bit and then Either that day or the next day on whether the topline is. Is You know half a millimeter tube. We're talking tenths of millimeters thick. He can hit one shot with a golf club until you immediately whether it's interacting with turf the way it should be. I've watched tiger during testing sessions. Hit One ball in automatically say well that went to high automatically knows that the center of gravity within this club is off. This is this is why it's so difficult to work with Tiger Woods. Because he is so precise he knows exactly what he wants and it takes a very special person to give him the tools that he's looking for but tire can look down at an iron and he can tell you if something's off is so precise he wants and it takes a very special person to give him the tools that he's looking for and Mike is that Guy. You've got such an innate sense of ability to grind and have me tell tell him what. I want and have him created this arcane antastic. He's one hundred percent that guy. So how does he become that guy? Well that that there's an interesting story there ever body when you mentioned that ball striking tigers ball striking that okay. It's not necessarily of what it looks like from a distance. Looks like when you're close enough that you hear it different just a beautiful.

"And other companies and use that as your starting point. But what do you do if every single one of your competitors in your industry is failing? What if your industry is failing as a whole way you do if everyone assumes that? That's just the way that it is. And that there is no solution. Well, that's the situation that Jessie Cole found himself in when he took ownership of a small rural baseball team that nobody really cared about. Or hardly even heard of he had an entire empty stadium to fill and soda the rest of the teams in their league who had all but given up people just don't care about the game of baseball anymore. And there's nothing we could do about it. They would say well Jesse didn't buy into that. And in fact, he saw it as an opportunity to turn the game and the experience for the fans on its head. And as a result in just a few years, he? The savannah bananas into a phenomenon today all four thousand seats to every single one of their games is sold out. And there's even a waiting list that's over a year long. They have an Instagram following that's grown beyond their city. And now he's set to revolutionize the game of baseball entirely. So how did he pull off this incredible turnaround well by daring to think and act differently about everything? Today's interview is one of the most amazing and entertaining stories that you've ever heard, but it's also one of the most valuable because the ideas that Jesse is using to revolutionize baseball can instantly be applied to your business as well. So listen up get ready to take some notes, this is an extremely valuable interview. And it's one hell of a story. Please help me. Welcome Jessie Cole. Jessica welcome into the Mike Taylor podcast is an absolute pleasure to have you on the show..

Lesson to be learned from the real housewives of your jerseys. True. The labor is the one that gets screwed at the end. Yes. Diamond don't label because things like that can happen. Unless unless it's unless it's true and valid and it wasn't my son had a bar mitzvah and everybody knows. You know, that's the least thing that I would be. And what I said was, you know, it's a common analogy, I'm never gonna use it again, especially with this crowd. But lesson lesson learnt that shit again. But yes, it was it was unfortunate.
