"Would you rather be, yes. Vince Carter. If it was Vince Carter or Allen Iverson, I would be pretty torn. Those are basically the two. Okay. Yes. I always go with the test. If you're going to be introduced at a speaking engagement or a party or wherever for the rest of your life and they can either say Laker great, so and so or Hall of Famer so and some I would probably it sounds like it has more of a ring to it to be called the Hall of Famer than you were a great player on a particular team. Well, if you lived in LA, then it would have more meaning if you're Jersey's retired. But if you don't live in LA, then I'd rather be a Hall of Famer. Yes, more. I'm not even sure if you're Jersey has to be retired because I'm sure if you're a Byron Scott or any of those guys on the showtime Lakers or if you're Rick fox or Robert Ori, you still live in LA. Oh, I'd rather be that, depending on where I lived. If I was in LA, I might rather be Rick Fox. You'd rather be Rick Fox and Allen Iverson. No, no. Like Adrian dantley or somebody like that. No, no, not Ellen. No, no, no. Wait a minute. Adrian's a long time ago. That's not fair to AD. I gotta think about it. Okay. But I'd rather be Allen Iverson than most. Yes, Paul. Like you could be Alex English, you play for a few teams, you're scored a lot of points here in the Hall of Fame, but it's a nondescript career or a Lake or legend. It's like being in the Yankee Ring of Honor. I think there's so much extra cache to being a Laker, great that I may take that over the Hall of Fame, weirdly. Would you rather have your Jersey retired by the Yankees or the Lakers? Well, yeah. Yeah. How about that sauce gardener? Saucy. I would think the Yankees, I would think the Yankees. Once again, where do I live? So if I live in LA, then I would say put me in the rafters at the crypt, my mom would kill me if I didn't say the Yankees right now. But dang does a Lake or something pretty cool. By the way, Steve Ballmer, the clippers owner, building a new arena and man does he get excited about things that you'd never think he would get excited about. Toilets, 1100 and 60 toilets. We do not want people waiting in line. We want them to get back to the DM seats. At the end of the house, before the game, toilets. Toilets. Of course. Toilets. Yeah. Toilets. Steve Ballmer. Best parking cap basketball. Yes, ton. Kind of sounds like the Matt foley character with Chris Farley. My name is Ben. Toilets. Jack squat. He does care. Going number one or number two. Yeah. You're no. We got him. The best. He does get excited. Really gets excited. Final hour on the way. Ramona shelburne from the mothership will join us. She was at the ceremony last night. Augusta got his number retired. More phone calls coming up as well in this Wednesday, fritzi, seaton, Marv, Paul, yours truly. What's up? I'm tyrese Maxie. 21st overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft, a guard for the filter 76ers. And I'm doing my very first podcast. Max on the mic. Diaries. "The nuggets. Celtics fans would love yes they would. Put a bow on it. Another white MVP. Payton preacher, where are you at? European white. American white. They want American rights. They'll even take Canadian white. Payton Richard. If it was Nick jokic, they would love him. Love. The Celtics, though, they're like for a team in first or second what they're in second now. They're the least scary team. Yeah. There's nothing intimidating about them whatsoever. What you watch Jason Tatum play, it's like he's doing like an individual workout session. Just don't work on the stroke. Just trying to find my form a little bit. And they've lost some games this year, lost recently. But if you said you're going to give it to the Greek freak, I'd be fine with it. I don't have a problem with it. If I was voting, you know, it would come down to those two players. The Joker, but I watch games. If you get drunk on highlights, then you're going to go, I don't get this. Why can't they shut him down? It's rare when you shut him down. I think embiid did earlier this year. And embiid has had a really good year. Then maybe he wins an MVP. But you know, you start to look at this and if you're looking at through the lens of who's white and who's black and who's voting and not voting and I get the Steve Nash, we fell in love with Steve Nash. I fell in love and appreciated what he did. And they didn't go that far in the playoffs. But they had the spurs to go through. But Nash deserved an MVP. Not two. But I thought he deserved one and then Shaq should have won the other one. In my opinion. Bird I wasn't voting back then. But I had no problem with bird being MVP. Because he was. Best player absolutely. Anybody else that I'm missing in there? Dirk Nowitzki? Well, they did lose in the first round after he won his MVP. In the regular season, I think they were like 67, 15. So regular season. I know. They killed and then baron Davis. He did win a title. Later. Yes. Which kind of validates him being an MVP. And he beat LeBron. I'm not sure if one title did more for a player. In the history of maybe sports than he did for Dirk Nowitzki Dirk Nowitzki was known as being soft and a choker. Then they were the ones they lost to the 80s to baron Davis and those guys and that title and who he beat and how he did it and he was sick with the flu. Well remember when LeBron and wade were going acting like they had a cold and they were coughing and doing the sniffles they were making fun of it. But go back to when novitskiy came into the league, man he got roughed up by players like they were calling him soft to his face, making fun of him in German. And then they're shocked. Totally made that up. They're softness. There's something. I don't know if Dirk benefited from a title more than any other player in the history of sports. I'll throw one out there. Okay. Most benefited legacy wise before and after, Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers. That's big. He was a first ballot regular season Hall of Famer. First ballot. Postseason wonky career, clean up on aisle 5, the Dodgers win. He plays great. And no one talks about it anymore. It's over for him. They've got sweater. And you know what? A guy like Tony Romo if he would have gotten one. If he would have gotten one? You're going. Hall of Fame, you're a Dallas Ring of Honor, blah, blah, blah, blah. When you might still be in the Dallas Ring of Honor. Yeah. Jerry Jones loves him. Does he get before Jimmy Johnson does? I'm trying to think of somebody else who a title that I wanted to title that certainly Peyton winning, but then he won another one. Drew Brees winning one? Yeah, Paul. After out Steve Young for the forty-niners, replacing Joe Montana, they replaced him a little early, and we don't talk about it now, but there was a lot of pressure on Steve Young taking over for a Joe Montana. Yeah, and he threw 6 touchdown passes in that Super Bowl. But, you know, he had this window. He had the USFL. He had Tampa Bay and then he had the niners and then put up some big numbers. But his career really was about 5 years, I think, of high numbers there, big numbers for the forty-niners, because what he did with Tampa they were terrible. Nobody cared about the USFL. It's funny that we always think of like guys like Matthew Stafford first in this conversation and not Aaron Rodgers. Somehow he gets to the benefit of like, man, without that one ring, he would really be a huge bust. For some reason, it feels like he won three, but he only has one. Yeah. He gets a pass on that a little bit. Yeah. If you would have said when their careers are going to be over, Matthew Stafford is going to have the same number of super bowls as Aaron Rodgers. I probably would have taken that bet. I would have gone with Rogers. But it's been what 12 years or at least a decade for Aaron Rodgers winning a Super Bowl. Yes. And you know what, the reports on Stafford are not good for this upcoming season. They're, I think there's some reports out there that he's still got some elbow issues here. And that retirement is not out of the question there. So Baker Mayfield junior the third, maybe he's back with the rams. Although Jalen Ramsey will be gone, Alan Robinson will be gone and that's the price of winning a Super Bowl. Poured Baker Mayfield. Hey, I'm going to the rams and they got all the, I got Cooper Cup. And I got Aaron Donald for one more year. Yeah, Pauline. Most important Super Bowl are titled to help a career job. John Elway doesn't get one. I know he got two, but if he didn't get one, he and Marino are tied together forever. Forever, they're like a fraternity. And it's hard to think about now, but John Elway went a long time without getting one. He got two at the very end. And he got it because of Terrell Davis. That he finally had a balanced team and he had a good defense, a great offensive line. Yes, Marc. Is it a huge difference between winning one early like Aaron Rodgers and saying, man, this guy can go on a run or winning one later? Well, sometimes when you win it later, you're winning it because of other people. When you're winning when you're younger, it might be because of you. Whereas Elway got carried to or Peyton Manning his second one got carried to another Super Bowl. But we frame it however we want to frame it. But I think that's interesting when you win that one title. And novitskiy winning a title was certainly was big for his legacy. A couple of phone calls in here. Chris in South Carolina, hi, Chris. What's on your mind today? Dan, good evening today, Dan, how are you? Great, Chris. This is the FrontRunner for your color. Let me say good evening, good afternoon to slack road. Go pick it up here real quick, Dan. We have it in the works. We are going to be doing it up this year with semen Tyler and I are getting it worked out. We're going to carry steaming into the Super Bowl in Vegas and style in a military themed semi, which semen and I need to know what nationality kid you're going with this year. "Are they a quarterback away? And that's where you have to at least inquire third party. Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers. Because Rogers sat down with the packers yesterday. Now, I don't know how that would start. Aaron, hey, Aaron, come on in. We want to talk to you about this year next year. How do you get around to the, when are you going to make up your mind question? Because if I'm the packer, well, what do I want to hear if I'm the packers? At some point, now I said this last year, I would have moved on from Aaron Rodgers. Even though him coming back, I had them in the Super Bowl. But at some point, I have to get rid of the drama. Like I have to get back to some kind of stability where it's a team. We're not just waiting for one person. And maybe Jordan love is not that quarterback. But at some point, I got to move on from this. He's great. We're not winning games at home where we're not winning the must win games, even when we get home field advantage in the playoffs. We're not winning. And I'm spending $60 million. And it reminded me of what the Lakers did when they weren't good, but they had Kobe. And they overspent for Kobe. Why? Hey, we're not very good, but come out and watch Kobe play. Final two seasons of his career. Okay. But the packers, I thought, not a great division. Turned out to be better than I thought. But they would win that division. They would have home field advantage. But if you're sitting down with Aaron Rodgers, you got to ask him, what do you want to do? Or at least ask him, when are you going to make up your mind about next year? Give us your time frame here. Just so we can plan accordingly. No surprises such as do this together, you want to be involved in the draft. I would ask him that. Since last year, you want to be, you want to be involved in the process, Aaron. Yes. Time is a social construct that I just don't live by anymore. What is this year? What is next year?

"He works for the mothership. Former general manager in the NFL with the jets, he agrees with me. If I'm the Chicago Bears, I try to see what I can get for Justin Fields, and I take Bryce young as my quarterback. If he grades out that that's the quarterback that I want and I think that he is so good, I can't pass him up. I have no problem doing that. What happens sometimes is you let emotion get in. Involved. And instead of just saying, let's just look be very pragmatic. This is what we're going to do this is why we're going to do this. As much as Justin Fields has entertained, our fan base and they've been patient. He's been great, but is he a great quarterback? Can he be a great quarterback? Can he be a franchise quarterback? He's entertaining to watch. He's interesting to watch, but is he the guy that you want? Plus, I get rice young and now he would be on his rookie contract as opposed to Justin Fields going into his third year so it's a business decision. Can I get a first round pick for Justin Fields? I would imagine. But maybe the colts want to come up. Maybe the Raiders want to come up. If you stay with Justin Fields, I understand that because you do need a lot of help. Bryce young is not going to change the bear's fortunes. What will change is that you have consistency at the coach and GM if they're the right people. And then you make some really good decisions draft wise. Because you can have draft picks. Are you good at drafting? And sometimes we get confused where they got all these draft picks. We'll look at the Raiders. Look at all the draft picks they had. In the last what, four years? How many of those draft picks are still on the team?

"Patrick dot com, Twitter handle and DP show. Frank on his solo, who covers the nets. He will join us coming up at the top of next hour. Mike tannenbaum, the former general manager, former NFL executive appears regularly on many of ESPN studio programs and one of the smarter NFL people I've ever been around. Mike joins us on the program. Mike, I was mentioning this prior to the commercial break. I thought the big winner, one of the big winners yesterday, was two a ton of iloa because at the start of the season, it felt like the dolphins said, if this doesn't go well, we still have some draft picks and we could use that to take a quarterback here. You're going to probably pick up his fourth year, his option here after this next season with what he's doing this year. What do you think the dolphins said about tua without saying anything yesterday? Yeah, Dan, great to be with you. And I completely agree with you. You know, it's interesting when you look at next year's first round, Seattle with Gino Smith playing really good Philadelphia, who has Yale and hers playing well. And then Houston is Detroit. Those are the four teams that have two first round picks. And now Miami is one of 5 teams that doesn't have a first round pick. So I completely agree with you. I think they send a massive message that, hey, two is our guy. And look, let's face it, when he's healthy, he's played well this year. Now, if I'm them, I have to hold my breath a little bit in terms of can he get through the rigors of a 17 game season, I would fortify the offensive line, but clearly when you look at winners in Lewis, losers, I would put two at the very top. Bradley Chubb going to the dolphins and I understand Denver saying all right, we're not going anywhere. We're not going to pay this guy a $100 million, I guess, moving forward. Give me the logic of what Denver did and what Miami is doing. I don't like it for Denver because it sends the wrong message, which is, hey, we acquired Russell Wilson. We should be trying to win as many games as possible. It sends a terrible message that, hey, even though we may have hit on baron browning and shortly Randy Gregory was a big off season acquisition, Bradley chubbs a young really productive pass rusher when he's healthy. So I want to keep those players even if I have to franchise them.

"Going to get to the North Carolina game. I'm still in October. Yeah, no. It's an incredible season. An early proud of our guys. And we were able to sustain and get better, even with some injuries, you know, on defense, we finished in the top in the league with 7 starters out, and all those kids are back now, but yeah, it's been a process. You know, when I first got in the league, we couldn't beat anybody. And at that time, Louisville was really good forward to state was at their peak with Jimbo and in dabo did a great job building Clemson up and went on those championships and for us to be able to knock them off in a double overtime win was pretty special. Yeah, and I remember watching it and naturally it was rooting for NC state I have a close friend who's a big fan of yours that I mentioned to you and when you're watching your team and you did it later in the year as well, seemingly have the game one and then the insides of a coach must I would like to see it. I can't read x-rays, but I would have loved to see what was going on. That had to be tough. Yeah, when we missed the field goal, it was, you know? And it couldn't be in a better situation. And I tell you, I put everything in the world on Chris done our kicker. I hope he gets another opportunity like that because I know he'll come through for us, but the insides were not feeling good at that time. But you know, you got to be the pulse of your team. And so I couldn't have that on the outside. You know, I had to turn around. Guys, we're going to win this game. Let's go, get your minds right. Got into double OT and found a way to do it. Devin Leary and Devin Carter on a great throw and catch. Now if I remember correctly, it was the inverse of that against North Carolina. You guys were done. Yeah, I mean, we had a 0.1 chance of winning the game, so we had a chance, you know? But yeah, Devin and emeka is too touchdowns in 28, 26 seconds. Pretty amazing. Chris Dunn with the onside kick recovery, you know, to get us the possession. When something like that happens, I mean, I'm sure you do some soul searching, you're thinking, I must be doing something better than I was doing in the past. Yeah, I told the team, our will to win is so strong and I think the chemistry of your team is built on love and relationships and we had a really close net group. And I think that's why we won those games. These kids have really invested in each other. Coach, I would like to talk about some of the issues that everyone is facing and had a lot of coaches that have been through here in the last two days and they're all in different places when it comes to the portal. NIL. Some embrace it some privately just are spitting bullets, including a man that was in here yesterday from your league. But how are you approaching what is now on the tips of every tongue in college football? Yeah, well, two different topics, but they're tied together, you know? And I think the portal, I think we're just looking for windows of time that make that a little bit better for us. Roster management wise as coaches. I don't think it's a bad thing, you know, for players to be able to leave if they're not happy where they're at. We just, when you have a scholarship cap like we do, I would like to have a couple whatever it is a month at the end of the season a month after spring ball. And outside of that, let us have our roster the way they are, you know? The NIL piece for the players on our campus that are performing well and doing great in the classroom and earning the university money for them to be able to make money off their name image and likeness. I have zero problem with that. I think it's great for them. Professionally. I don't like how it's being used in recruiting. That's where I'm struggling with it. And so we'll just have to see how it goes, you know? It was a university we're putting together a collective right now to be a part of that conversation. It's called the pack of wolves and excited to see how that helps us as a program. But there's a lot of things that need to be done on this to make it have some guardrails, I think, you know. But the part of it, I think that frustrates so many people in the industry is that the organization that is supposed to be guarding it is almost out of business. So how do you put I'm not asking you, but I'm asking you in general, you're a football coach. But how do you put guardrails up when nobody's enforcing the rules as it is? Yeah, it's a great question. You know, I think definitely big things need to happen. Whether that's a commissioner that oversees the power 5, which, to me, makes a lot of sense because we have issues that are different than the non power 5 schools, financially. I think that would be a great change. Whether it's the president or the NCA and then there's a commissioner for power 5, a commissioner for non power 5, a commissioner for division two, FCS, and so on. Where things can get done that fit those places financially. That to me would be a great start. And I know they're already looking at the governance, but we're currently working in a system of rules that don't fit what's happening on the sport and it's very challenging. And I always wonder, I think you're on to something in terms of somebody running the power of 5, but how do you find someone that everyone will agree? Agree on. I think is the issue. And I think it has to happen. Yeah, I think there's people out there though, you know, I think it's more along the lines of who would want the job, you know? I know if you get to ADs together like we do as coaches at times, you can sense their frustration too, because you'll have a 100% ACC coaches, we want this done, give it to our ADs, they back us a 100%, and then it dies on the vine, because somebody at a one double-A school doesn't financially, it doesn't make sense for their university. And so, and that's what they should be saying for their university. But they need to break them apart so that we can all do what's best for our schools at our levels. Before you go, I want to talk about you for a second because you mentioned it was a big tough beginning, the school had perseverance. They stayed with you. And then when things started going well, your name became a hot commodity. We reported on this program, Tennessee was after other schools were, how do you finally decide, okay, the school took a chance on me. We had tough times. Things are going great now. I stay here or do it a lot of coaches and bail. Yeah, you know, I think it's a tough, tough situation. You know, what are you done for me lately in this sport is really a big deal. We love where we're at, first of all. My sons love the schools they're at. Sarah and I really enjoy living in Raleigh. And it's a place we could see ourselves the rest of our lives. So to leave here, it has to be the right fit. And I feel like I have unfinished business here, you know? And I want to finish what I started. That's a big part of who I am. And I like these players that I have, like, the parents in my players, you know? So I'm at home and this is the longest I've ever lived anywhere. So literally I can call this my home now because in these fans of back to me through some tough times, our athletic director has backed me through a tough season. So there's that back and forth loyalty that's built. Coach, thank you for making time for such a pleasure to have you on. Pleasure to be on your show. Thanks so much. You bet. Coach day door in the head coach of the wolfpack and we are done with the first hour we're live in Las Vegas. We're coming back..

"And Mike, a couple of other players, I'm curious about first, another Georgia bulldog, George pickens that there was the injury issue. He seemingly back from that pretty well. What is your assessment of him in relation to tonight? Yeah, he's an intriguing player because he has so much ability. If he was healthy all year, he definitely would have been a first rounder. We saw jamison Williams, the Ohio State transfer, who went to Alabama, Detroit was able to get him as well in a trade up with Minnesota. I think picking goes early tonight and he's a guy that again, if he stays healthy, he's going to be a frontline receiver because of his size, his catching radius. So again, he's somebody that's having overcome a few issues off the field, but I think again, similar to his teammate, the Kobe dean, once he gets to a place, if he can stay healthy, I think it'll have a really good career. Yeah, you know, I was just busy with some people about the Georgia team, Mike, and a couple of guys came out early last year from that team, not that that's unusual. That happens whenever you're a good player, but at one time the collection of players on this team may have rivaled some of those Miami hurricane teams of 20 some odd years ago. John metti is also still on the board, he played a big role in Alabama's success. What is your assessment of him? Yeah, I like him a lot towards ACL, unfortunately. I think he's another guy. Similar to what we've been talking about, should go somewhere tonight. I think it's still going to be in the second round. Sky more Christian Watson. There's some other receivers I'll be in the mix. Obviously, we already talked about picking. So I think he's maybe towards the bottom half of the second, maybe at the top of the third. But again, mechi has I love his game speed. You know, when you watched him and Jameson Williams, we're always obsessed about, oh, when they run at Indy, but gosh, when you watch them on game tape, they run away from people. So I think mechi again should have an outstanding NFL career. Two other two other before you go, Mike, and that's Malik Willis, who a lot of people thought could go very early. And obviously Matt carrell, who seemingly going the wrong way. Yeah, start with Malik Willis. He's short. Some every day at the senior bowl. He has an unbelievable arm. He's really built like a running back. He's a big, thick, lower leg guy. Who needs to probably sit for a year. Transfer for auburn had incredible production for two years, but teams are going to be scared of his size. You look at Drew Brees and Russell Wilson, Paul, those are exceptions. I would be concerned about keeping him in the pocket and having balls batted down. As it relates to mackerel, I'm really intrigued by him, obviously he's dealing with an injury and he is to me a really good athlete. But when you watch his tape because of lane kiffin's offense, you don't see a full field quarterback. I think it's there, but teams really take a little bit more of a project in the second round. Then in the first round. And I was surprised that only one quarterback went, I expect a number of these quarterbacks to go early tonight. My cannonball on the coverage later, we really appreciate Mike joining us. We are heading to a break right now. We are going to continue talking to a number of people who have whose players have played a role, including Dave Doran. His great player went 6th last night to the Carolina Panthers and we'll talk to the NC state coach right after this. You are listening to the Paul fine bomb show podcast. We are here in Las Vegas and coach Dave Doran joining us to head coach at NC state, what are your last year knocking off Clemson, the school was declared you won the bowl game, and you would have won it, but the other side backed out minutes before, but it's great to see you and I know it had last night had probably a long and very special night for you and your entire family. Yeah, it was special. It was beautiful, you know, being in that room with icky and his family and all the people they brought with them. Like I was telling you earlier, someone that treats everyone the way that icky does. You just feel so good to see something like that happen to him. And the theory, a young player, get picked by the team, he grew up and went to school at pretty remarkable. Yeah, it was great. You know, it happened obviously in the second pick of the draft. And then for icky and then later on with Kenny Pickett, so you got to see three guys kind of get to be the hometown hero. It's pretty awesome. I'm pretty after the run you guys have had. I mean, you'd be Clemson, you win so many important games. I know that's all very special, but on the stage that this draft is on. What does that mean when you have a player go as high as he did? A lot of attention paid to NC state. Well, it's the second, I guess you'd say, three star player I've had picked in the top 6 picks, Bradley Chubb, a couple years ago. Absolutely. And then Garrett Bradbury first rounder also a little bit later a couple of years later. So I could just shows that our developmental plan that we have, the way that our strength and conditioning program, our coaching staff, it's just proof to what we do. It's a blueprint we have, and it shows that if you come to NC state that we have a plan in place that can help you reach your goals and we can develop you. Coach, I want to talk about that because fans of a program like this, they only know stars. And you've already beaten that. Yeah, sure. You go after the top players, but development is critical to any program when you're able to make that happen. The proof is in the pudding and that message is getting across to future recruits. It is. Yeah, and I think to the NFL as well. I think they trust that we know what we're doing. You know, I hear that a lot, and so it's not a sales job for me when I'm talking to recruits. It's like, here's what happened. Here's the before and after pictures of all these players. Here's how we've developed them. Here's their academic success. Here's what they're doing. And so I think it really helps for parents, you know, to be able to see that because this is what could happen for my son. We're chatting with the coach Dave Doran here in Las Vegas where tonight may be a little calmer. But you watch that unfold last night and I know you've done this before, but it is remarkable though from a college standpoint to see what the NFL has done with this particular night to describe being so close to it last night. I want to felt like yeah, this thing's on steroids here in Las Vegas I mean, it's amazing. What a production and the way that this town is embraced it and how many people are here. I mean, yeah, it was amazing and there was a lot happening last night. Coach, let's talk a little bit about your program and the ACC because everyone can take sides, but Clemson certainly has ruled the roost for a long time and you guys have come close a couple of times. I mean, gut wrenching close and then finally you were able to do it last year. One of the most dramatic endings to a game that I think we saw all year. With the North Carolina game or the Clemson game, we had a couple. I was.

"And this pat is next. Hello. Hello. This is pat. I just wanted to tell you, you were totally uninterested in my call. And you were so irritating by. Nick is up next. Hello, Nick. Hey, Paul, I feel like you might be in a thruple there. Yeah, I mean. Have you ever been in a situation with a friend? Probably more often with a wife with your wife and you have no earthly idea why she's upset with you. And you know if you say something, it's just going to magnifier and make it worse. This woman called in earlier and I thought I was being polite about the fact that she had gone to school in Georgia or auburn wherever in Oklahoma and she just called in to tell me off. Paul, Paul, I want to talk about arch Manning. I read, I know, I know you're tired of this subject, but hear me out, please. So I know Texas is the favorite to land him now. And I was hoping you could give me a short amount of time. I would like to speak to arch directly as almost like Bob Barker's public service announcement, like get your dog spayed or neutered. Can I speak to him? I know he watches the show. Nick, I'm sure he's watching right now. The floor is yours. Arch, you know, the coach at Texas src is a very nice man. It's kind of like Sabin was walking into dreamland and he saw this rock. He kicked it. He picked it up. He shined it. He put it up on his shelf, and now it's the coach at Texas, okay? Whatever money they're offering you, it's not going to be worth it. You will win no national championships. You might win a big 12 title because, well, because you're not going to win an SEC title, if he makes it before you declare for the draft. But you could be Saban swang song. Your returning, you could come, you know, Bryce is going to be gone after next year. It's the range or yours. You could win two three natty's have a statue in front of Bryant, Denny stadium. Like, don't go out a loser like both of your uncles that really didn't accomplish much arch. It's time to go to Bama, wake up. Oh, thank you. Thank you. It was better than the pat call. I'll say that. Let's talk to Adrian, yo, Adrian. I can't believe you said that please don't ever say that to me again. I am 41 years old, Paul I've heard it. You're not clever, buddy. You're not the first one to get that one in on me. But I am the last. Maybe. I had three points that's going to talk to you about, but pat doesn't made one for me, so now I'm just down to two. Number one, we got to give Jim a lot of credit. The fact that that man can wear what I'm sure is a very elaborate tinfoil hat and still be able to talk on the telephone is a mate. That is correct. And number two, you know, you're talking about the greatest football coaches and then it got into the leftist Mount Rushmore talk. For me, general nalin, Nick Saban, bear Brant, and it's got to be Jeremy Pruitt last. Jeremy Pruitt done more in three years at Tennessee for every other team in the SEC east than any coach in history. It just three years. Great to hear from you. Thank you very, very, very much. Papa dub is in Charlotte. I go right ahead. Hey, Paul, how you doing, sir? We are well. Thank you for calling. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Got three things for you. One in your music library. Do you have the group St. Paul and the broken bones? I don't know, I don't. Tell me more about them. Well, they're out of Birmingham. They're a great group. I know that. Yeah, yeah. You need to try them out, man. They are really cool. St. Paul was actually named after coach Bryant. The family was a big Alabama fan, and he was actually born on the same day that coach Bryant died. One of my other things. Yep, please do. The favorite song I have was called call me. That's kind of odd that that would be a good song for you to listen to. Call me. That being said, I'll call blondie song from the 70s. Well, it was, but they do, their own original materials. They don't do they're not like a cover band right here at that. But one other thing I wanted to say to you real fast was that I wanted to say thank you because I drove down from Charlotte to Gainesville, Florida, and if you remember that day Alabama in Florida was playing, they had one heck of a weather storm on that Friday. You were broadcasting and you got moved inside and it came outside. It was a lot of chaos going on. And I came down with a poster for Parker garlicky design for his 13th birthday and you were so kind to come over and sign that for me. I remember how we finally got outside. I remember that well. Yep, yep, yep. So I got that over to Parker. He's that's a treasure for him. His family were so appreciative of you doing that for them. And I appreciate you doing it because you know a lot of people you see on television you say, boy, that could probably be snobs. Third, you're nothing. You're not a snob. You are the kindest of gentlemen. So thank you about that. And the one thing I wanted to call about was this whole renaming of Bryant didn't stadium. I'm an old Alabama guy. Been there. And so I think I've got a solution to it. I think with the law of the law college there at the university of Alabama, they get some of their most high level student to come together and put a plan together to annex the university of Alabama from Tuscaloosa. And then call it Sabin ville. And that way, I agree with you. We did that with, I mean, it was somewhat absolutely. And see, I think I can kill. I don't even know the origin of the word Tuscaloosa. I'm assuming it had something to do with the past inhabitants, but Sabin ville is a much better name. Yeah, and just think about it. And see if he would agree with me that we just go ahead and do it. We don't waste any time. Let's change the name now. It's not a person. We're not taking somebody's name off..

The Paul Finebaum Show

"Always great to bring our friend Mike tannenbaum in heading to the draft tomorrow and talking about it nonstop, the former GM and director of player personnel for a number of NFL clubs. Mike, thank you. Great to see you. So if you're sitting there at number one, which Jacksonville is, you've got your quarterback. What do you do? What do you do Thursday night? Yeah, great to be with you, Paul. I take 8 in Hutchinson. He's a really good player, and he brings a lot to that Jacksonville locker room. I've been to their Michigan's practices this year. I've seen him live. He's a really good player, maybe not miles Garrett, necker, Joey Bosa, a notch below that as a player, but he will infuse tremendous football character into that Jacksonville locker room. So having said that's what you would do, what do you think they will do? Sounds like they're leading towards Trayvon walker, who I think Paul is going to be a good player. You saw him a lot. I'm just scared of death values production, only 6 sacks this year. Only 52% of his snaps at defensive end. We all saw what he did at the combine at 274 pounds, but to me, for the number one pick, Paul, we want Amazon stock. We want certainty and we don't have that in Trayvon walker. That is interesting because I know you've seen it before because you've seen it all, but his ascent to that position, assuming that's the way they go. What would you compare this to? If anything, in recent history, but that's a great question. Would you go back over the last couple of years, there's been such certainty in terms of the quarterbacks. I think it goes all the way back probably to Baker Mayfield, where nobody was sure was going to be maybe Josh Allen, Sam darnold for a minute, wound up being Baker Mayfield, but I think we have to go back four or 5 drafts with this sort of major question marks 48 hours out. The quarterback position is always the one that we obsess over other than this year. So considering the prospects you have, of course, Malik Willis, you have Kenny Pickett who seems to be highly regarded by many. Who will go first and why? Can he pick it? I think goes to Carolina at 6. If we go back to Matt rule a temple, he recruited Kenny Pickett, so I think there's a connection there and he's thinking either do I try to win with Sam darnold or can he pick it? Now maybe they try to train for Baker Mayfield. I don't think that's likely at this point. So I think pick it going 6 to Carolina is where we see the first quarterback. I know another player that you've been high on is jamison Williams, the transfer to Alabama who had such a big year. He is also had quite a climb up the charts assuming that's how it works out Thursday night. Paul, I went to the SEC championship game thinking I'm going to be just raving about this great Georgia defense. I love talking about I think I just saw the next tyreek hill with jamison Williams, his speed, his game changing play speed is unbelievable, assuming he gets back to a 100%. He could be tyreek hill. I think he could be the best football player out of this draft, and I think he doesn't get out of the top ten despite tearing his ACL in the last game. And that's so amazing because when that happened, we all collectively took our held our breasts for a lot of reasons, but mostly because you just don't want to see him hurt his chances. I realized surgery, that surgery is way advanced compared to maybe 5 or 15, 20 years ago, but take us through that that trajectory, because it really does seem gob smacking when you think about it. Yeah, it's all about risk and reward and just making sure that at some point it's going to be healthy. And I think Paul, as we talk about injuries and durability, I don't think they're all created equal. So take somebody like David a jabo from Michigan, Jameson Williams from Alabama. They have significant injuries, but we saw cam Akers, for example, come back from a torn Achilles, but then you look at someone like Derek stingley, who only played a full season once in 2019. That would be a much bigger concern if we were running a team poll because now we have a three year pattern of behavior, whereas guys like Jameson Williams, David abo, they're more of an isolated incident and you hope that they come back quickly. And I would also put John Cena into that group also from Alabama. We haven't talked much about Matt corral at one time, there were speculation that he could go extremely high. He got hurt too, very badly in the sugar bowl. What's your assessment of Matt? Yeah, I think I have going 32. When you look at the last number of years, Lamar Jackson, teddy Bridgewater, they won 32nd. I think a team will try to take a quarterback there. I think it's Matt. He's a very good athlete. So many of his throws, though, Paul are behind the line of scrimmage that RPO game that we know that lame kiffer likes to run. But he has a lot of athleticism. He has a good arm. I like his quick Twitch. I think his game has the ability to translate to the pro level. It may not happen overnight, however. You mentioned Trayvon walker early on and we're going to hear a lot of familiar names at least from where we work here, Mike. But the collection of Georgia players, especially on the defensive side, is going to be, I think, a shock to people who don't follow the SEC and college football very closely. How difficult is it? I know the combine helps, but when you watch that unit this year during the season, trying to differentiate one from another because it was such an amazing unit. It's a great point. I mean, we could talk about quay walker Devante, why did Jordan Davis dean Channing tindall? I mean, you could just go on and on and on. It just shows you the great job that Kirby smart did recruiting and developing players. So they all have fascinating stories to tell. And when we look back, I think 6 or 7 of them will have meaningful NFL careers. Now, historically, they don't all pan out, but boy, they are just great football players. They're well coached. They have great motors and it's going to be fun to see them come off the board Thursday and Friday night..

"I mean, there's just no, and by the way, you're talking about an era where there were a handful of schools playing and you didn't see a lot of national Internet of. Transcontinental travel or across the country travel. So Brian gets hurt in this conversation because he coached the first half of his career in a segregated era. Now he changed all that, which we all know, thank goodness. But right now, what we're really talking about, who's the best today? And Nick Saban stole the best today. Thanks for the call. Kathy is up next. Hello, Kathy. Hi, Paul. I just want to say that in my opinion, mister Ana, when she done her interview while I go, I see a lot of government needs to stay out of our football because they haven't done the good for our government. But also, I want to say Earl from Oklahoma, he needs to look at his self because he speaks in via SEC. We're not a bunch of idiots in college. Plant based have some mental challenges, but mostly we're all okay. Our sector are Alabama and we're not the ones that are going to the Supreme Court are the courts trying to get the national championship over time. Today, with the Supreme Court demanding that they issue a, I don't know if it's a stay of execution. That might be a little severe. To remove George's national championship. Exactly. But once you've been a prisoner and you've been in this little sale, your mind keeps doing stop like this. You know, he's been incarcerated. Even though I was out now, he has that mentality, so bless him for that. But thank you, Kathy. And also someone we talked about many, many times. Who I think really should be part of the all time coaches conversation is Eddie Robinson. He probably had to overcome more than anyone else on this top list to produce great players. But so therefore, how do you compare? You're unable to. Today, at least it's much easier. I mean, their coaches that have coached in other divisions that have far exceeded Nick Saban in terms of national championships. So you really, you do open Pandora's box every time we get in to this, but one thing about what our last caller said. I do not, I do not trust Congress to get involved. The only thing Congress can do, and this is the main reason that the NCAA is hoping that they get involved is that if they give college athletics an antitrust exemption, it will make things easier. Right now, that is a big story. And it's way too complicated. Nor am I qualified to discuss it. But there is a great concern among the top shelf of college leaders that as they expand and as the money gets more that the antitrust question enters into the conversation. Let's continue with John, who is next. Hello, John. Good afternoon, Paul. You're doing a fine job. Thank you. Listen, I've got a couple of questions. Number one, all of these people calling in and I don't know if I can or not. But you know, Alabama fans are doing the exact same thing that Georgia fans when they lost 6 or 7 straight times. What did they do? They made excuses. Well next year next year and finally next year came. So, you know, these people who are down in Alabama for being cry babies, you need to take a look in the mirror and it's your team. Number two, why in the world like floored? They do not have a state tax. Versus Alabama, which has a state and many others. How do you when I go your voice with that? Number one, and also if they've got a full years or 5 years and they've got a scholarship and what do you have do you know off the top of your head? What is a four year scholarship works at Alabama? Oh, I would say for an out of state student for over a $100,000, maybe a significantly higher than that. Maybe a 130. Well, why are they in these athletes on making these big bucks? And they say four or 5 or four years on the craft change they play it back. Well, you know why, John, because they're not asked to at the front end. It's like any other agreement. You get what you can on the front. When Nick Saban's an arch Manning's house, he may not be a good example because his parents are billionaires. He's not saying I want you to come to Alabama, but if you do, you better pay it back. They're saying, we want you to come to Alabama. Please, please, please. We're taking a break now. We'll talk about the NFL Draft coming up. It is two days away, a lot of things happening on that front, including a former now former Georgia player who could be shooting to the top of the draft. You were listening to the Paul fine bomb show podcast. Hi, this is Reece Davis from the ESPN college.

The Rich Eisen Show

"Eisen show 8 four four two O four rich number to dial. Longtime general manager of my New York Jets and then he was a GM of the Miami Dolphins and now he's one of the best in the business talking about it on television. Joining us here as he's also founding the 33rd team, a football think tank consisting of former NFL head coaches GMs and graduate students. He is Mike tannenbaum back here on the Richards and show. Thanks for joining me on such a busy day, Mike. Hey, roach, great to be with you. What a day, huh? I know exactly what a day. So when do we, let's just jump right into it here. When do we find out what's going on in Green Bay because Rogers contract will inform a lot when do we get to see the fine print or is it possible that they're still hammering out whatever Rogers the fine print to tweet out to say that he's coming back for your 18? What's going on there, do you think? Yeah. I think the deadline is three 59 on Wednesday because at the start of the league year. So again, just to reset for everybody today and tomorrow you could have agreement in principles and we're seeing a lot of news come out. But it's really Wednesday at 4 o'clock when everything becomes official. So for Green Bay, that's when you want to have the maximum cap space. So presumably you will get a master signing bonus, Richard could be 60, 70, somewhere in there $1 million per rated over 5 or 6 years to lower his cap number. That will give them their ability to hopefully get something done to Amazon a longer term deal. We saw them get pressed and Smith signed. And I'm sure they're going to try to resign some of these other guys like a Devon Drake Campbell or a soul Douglas. So lots of work to do for Green Bay, but I would think we know by 4 o'clock on one side. So then what do you think? What's the tea leaves? Knowing how you know this works and what Gouda Koons might be going through right now. What do you think of is in fact happening with Green Bay and Rogers commitment to the team and they to him right now. I think if you look at the last four years of Drew Brees's career in New Orleans, they had the best record in the NFL and basically what they did is they gave a lot of massive signing bonuses per rated it out so they could lower the cap numbers and if I'm Brian Buddha comes to GM the packers that's exactly what I'm doing. I'm trying to get that cap number as low as possible in 2022. I'm going to use that excess space rich. I'm going to go sign Campbell Douglas, maybe try to resign the Darius Smith who I had to cut. But I need to know, I'm sure they already know, even if some of the finer details have to be worked out on Rogers deal, I'm sure they already know what the cap number is for this year so they can kind of work around that simultaneously and try to get some of these other deals side. And how does it complicate things that their star receiver who their star quarterback is expecting to be there and be happy to be there and he wants happy to be there and no doubt is trying to use whatever juice he has within the building to make sure his star receiver is happy and made happy is saying that he's unhappy with the franchise tag and will not play on it. How does that complicate things? Sure. That's ties backwards to the 4 o'clock on Wednesday, which is they're going to try to I'm sure get something done if they can't by 4 o'clock on Wednesday. The next big date will be July 15th because that's when you can get up until then a long-term deals on the franchise tag. So I'm going to work really, really hard with his agent getting a room and try to get something done by Wednesday at four. If I can't, then I'm just going to put it off to the side, understand that he wants long-term deal. Understand, we want to give him a long-term deal. And I'm going to do everything I can between free and see the draft and then come back to its probably right after the July 4th holiday. So what could change between now and July? Why can't something get done now just because there's too much else going on? You know what I'm saying? What's the mechanics there? If I'm a player, I may want to wait because I want to see the market. So I think it's a pretty easy deal to get done candidly. Based on Mike Williams is reported $20 million a year in the charge. He has to be above that. But there may be a receiver or two that goes even higher. So if I'm devonta Adams, I may just say, hey, just remember this. I'm not coming in on a one year deal, and I could sign it on March, whatever. 16th or July 14th, but just make sure you save enough cash and cap for me. And I'm sure he's telling his good friend Aaron Rodgers the same thing. So I actually think in this situation, rich time is on the other side. That's his leverage is what you're saying on that front. A 100%. Yeah, I want to see the entire market. I want to see every other deal get done. That's out there. And I want to take the best of everything and Deandre Hopkins signed a deal that some will value at $27 million a year. But there is a lot to be to me, there's a lot to be learned by waiting if I'm devonta Adams knowing that Aaron Rodgers more than anybody else will push to get the best deal done for me. Mike tannenbaum here on the rich eisen show. Mike, you and I are from New York. So I'm going to just give this next one in a very New York manner. That might not be fitting of the great state of Minnesota, but I will ask it on behalf of Vikings fans as if from New York. What the hell are the Vikings doing? Mike tannenbaum. How about that? There has to be a belief that Kevin O'Connell feels like, hey, I could go win multiple games or Kirk Cousins and basically what you have to think about is like if I send them to a one year extension extension, that gives me a couple of drafts now to get my footing as a head coach to draft his replacement..

"Came up with it. Last week out of nowhere. Plead the 5th. It's time for a TB 12 heat check. So we got some amazing drops. Wait a minute. So what you didn't let me call? I'm sorry, rich. I'm sorry. And we created a graphic for it. We got a graphic too for it. We had it? What we got? Okay, let's see, you got the graphic? One came up to it. I plead the fair. It's time for a TV 12 each. It's a liar and Ari like in the back. It's beautiful. Smith thing too, is that your you Hoskins? That's amazing. Hoskins sports. Oh man, at least Mike, if you worked on it over the weekend, at least you're not the guy who bought the half $1 million football over the weekend. You're not, right? A couple hours. Oh man, we had to set up. We had the drop, the audio drop. Oh man. Come on, Tom. We could have gotten a whole bunch of segments out of it. At least Aaron Rodgers waited summer and spring and summer for us last year, right? I don't even know what an audio drop is. There you go. It feels chiming in. Oh man. Fort Jeff and Detroit, which has happened. What do you got? Quandre Diggs. Three year deal, 40 million to stay in Seattle. Okay. Why don't we get in the JC Jackson going to the Los Angeles chargers announcement? When's that one coming? Do you think that's coming? Oh yes, I do. Derwin James tweeted out the Googly eyes this morning. Why else would he do that? Well, I mean, Jackson or I shouldn't say it yet. But I got that one all set up in terms of my analysis of that. As you know, I believe the Chargers are going all in on that. Question is, is who's going to make a move in free agency first? The jets or the Yankees. I'm waiting on both right now. I need a trade over the weekend. It's a trade. I'm talking about taking those Steinbrenner dollars. Using your ultimate advantage over all these other teams, minus the Dodgers. Maybe the Red Sox. Matthew judon just tweeted to Bobby Wagner to call him. Yeah, man. I would tweet it. Should I do the same thing? Did you don't do that? Yeah. And rich, you just brought a baseball a second ago. This is something that brockman brought my attention to. My favorite baseball player, Pete Alonso, and the mets. Was doing an interview at spring training rich, he revealed that yesterday, someone ran a red light, thibault them and his car flipped over three times and he had to kick his windshield out. I heard that. But that's okay. He seems okay, but I'm telling you what, man, is someone who's been chuck. Is someone who's been T bone before? It's scary because you see it coming, and there's nothing you can do. And plus, they're in practice. He's saying he's feels good, but I mean, mine was 9, ten years ago, and I still have back problems in this day, so I think hopefully he takes some time to make sure his body's right because you can't get hit like that flip over three times and just walk away like you're okay. That's not how your body works. Well, I hope he's okay. He's looked all right. He looks fine, yeah, yeah. Let's take a break. We'll come back. Mike tannenbaum will join us longtime general manager in this league to give us some heads and tails over what's going on. In free agency. Did you send a tweet? I did from the show account saying, call rich eisen two. Matthew judon is adding Alan Robinson asking, what you doing? It's shooting a shot right now. You might as well miss a 100%. You don't take exactly. My man. Here you go. Allen, Bobby Wagner and ally and Allen Robinson in New England. Bobby Wagner's come to Dallas. Come on. Why is JC Jackson not been moved yet? The code bread's been ordered. What's going on? He's packed. You're hoping the Patriots just hold on to him. Just wait. All the offers come in and then he'll come back to Bill and say, hey, what do you think? A bill will be like, all right. Are you wearing a ram shirt? I went ram shirt now. There he is. Yeah. He's a FrontRunner..

"Lot to do today. Don't forget tomorrow. We begin our coverage. In Tampa, the beginning of the SEC basketball term. Let's get to some headlines for today. And it's not looking good for Tom crean. In fact, it hasn't been looking good for him for some time. According to a report in the AJC, crean and UGA will part ways after the season. What does that mean? He's getting fired. Meanwhile, how can Florida make the NCAA field Mike white's team always seems to be near the bubble or at least lately that's the case. Experts believe they need to obviously beat Texas a and M, that's a given, but maybe another win. Against auburn, remember a couple weeks ago, they did beat auburn at home, but they gave back a few of those by losing to Arkansas and Kentucky. Gators need to get busy in Florida. On the women's side, South Carolina is still the number one seed in spite of losing to Kentucky in the final. They have been the best team all year, and that has not changed, even with a loss or two. And bracketology, we still got a few days to go for the women, but ultimately you look at the top and there is South Carolina. LSU, not far behind, number two, Tennessee at three O miss, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, and Arkansas and Missouri in the field, but not a lot of room to breathe. Meanwhile, hype for Spencer Rattler, it's real. Former opponents and teammates say a year ago, he was the number one quarterback in the country at Oklahoma. He lost his starting job. He has regained that. He is at South Carolina. Georgia just can't quit winning in Indianapolis. They won against Alabama, although some are disputing that. Not me. I saw it. And they won the combine as well. We'll talk about that in just a few minutes. Well, how tough is it to rank the best coaches were the best hires? Well, that happened, and we will talk to the man who wrote that article a little bit later on. Luke fickle, best hire in recent years, Ryan day. Lincoln Riley, Matt rule. Coach O, he did win a national championship, Napier, Cristobal, which time. I guess that one was just for Oregon, chadwell, trailer, and Sam Pittman. So rittenberg, who wrote that, I don't know how you come up with ideas. Okay, 5 years, ten years, whatever. He'll be with us later on, and he can explain it. I just read the article. That's all I do. A lot of those guys are no longer even at the same school. Rittenberg is at the same place that he wrote the story. He works for ESPN. Let's talk about who else will be here. My cousin, Mike tannenbaum will be here. He was at the at the combine and he'll tell us all about that. Also, the Ridley story from yesterday, although that seems like a long time ago with all the news in the NFL, Connor Riley on the green dismissal or expected dismissal. Adam rittenberg and Augusta stone remember we talked to Augusta when she was a college student a couple of times. She's now a professional. And we're all just a little bit older. Your phone calls as well. At 8 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5, let's start with Eddie in Florida. Hello, Eddie. Hey Paul, how you doing, man? Eddie we are doing great. I just want to call and reply to a call that auggie made on Friday. Something like it may be pretty excited, but that's all good and well. How do you call out the fema knight? When you use the word red unika, you remember that, Paul? Yeah, I do remember that one. That was interesting. Eddie, you still there? Yeah. Or did you fade the fourth quarter like your football team a couple of weeks ago? I'm still here, Paul. Okay. As I told you, I'm not one of those Alabama fans, all right? Fair and square. But he called you crying about the same thing that he's going to be like trying about. And that's telling you, Paul, that the LSU. Team, what does that do when anything? And he told a bunch of lies, what are you saying to them? Hey, Eddie, I'm going to have to ask you, if you're going to come back and do some smack talk, get a phone that works, okay? That one sounded like I was at the pool. It sounded like you go to not a mainline franchise, but like an off brand, like burgers are us and you pull right over. I mean, come on, Eddie. If you're going to call auggie daddy a liar, call back with a better cell connection. William is up next in Georgia. Hello, William. Hey, Paul. I'm sitting here recovering from a knee replacement operation and I'm looking forward to a great show. Thank you. By the way, what is the rehab for that? Depends on the individual not therapist. I've already been sleep therapist one time, and that was extremely painful. And he said, at the end of April, I should be pretty much normal. Okay. But most people say you can get around on it and three to four weeks. You could be getting around pretty well. But I'm using a walker right now. I just don't want to fall and reinjure the thing. So I'm glad to hear. Just trying to I look forward to your show every day. Thank you. And this is what I'm going to tell you. You know, curly to call in and talk a little bit about Larry Musk. And I don't know if you knew this fact about Larry. I have heard him tell the story. Back in the early 1940s, Larry was a jazz pianist. I've never heard that. He played, he played for a little band. You may have heard of called Tommy Dorsey. Oh my goodness, Tommy Dorsey was one of the most famous band leaders of that era. Oh, yes. Yes, I absolutely. And also, you can ask Lawrence lord Smith would know all this. If you ever get talked to him again. But anyway, also, he played for a pretty famous singer. He backed up a pretty famous singer named.

"We're going to get to, but that was a big win for them. And again, I think buffalo has some real flaws. They're run defense. Their ability to run the ball, but give them credit for making them at least going to overtime. Yeah, no, I get it. But you know what, I got to ask, I want to take advantage of having Mike tannenbaum an amazing evaluator of talent, former, I mean, if I could choose a GM to choose Mike tannenbaum, I'm telling you he was terrific and that's why we had some of the success we had together with the jets. But I got to ask you this, Mike. Do you ever sit back in almost kick yourself said, why the hell didn't I see this in Tom Brady? And obviously, you, me, everybody else never saw this in him. And even the Patriots never saw an interview he was drafted in the 6th round, but in an amazing when you sit back and look at it, I guess the one thing you can't measure is the guy's heart, competitiveness and his brain and it's just amazing. And like you mentioned, this guy also ended up being the greatest teammate in the history of football as well. Sacrificing for his football team, taking less money in the hardest worker on a team. It's just amazing, man, this guy. Yeah. And right service's story that has been told, but it's so good that it's worthy to tell again, which is a lot of people miss it, but in 2000, I was at the jets coach barcellos was still running the operation. And the facility was physically located on the campus of university. We take Chad painting in the first round, and then the third round, the late great Bill Walsh, the Hall of Famer, drafts, Giovanni carmazzi, quarterback hofstra, and we're sitting there like, oh my God, we blew it. We're literally on their campus and we take Pennington, he takes car manage and then oh by the way, some 6 rounder from the thing about Brady's story that's probably as remark he wasn't even a full-time story out of Michigan. I know which is crazy. I mean, you really think about it. I mean, he had so many opportunities just you know what? I'm just going to play it out, get my degree and all that, but he knew. He knew he was the best. And I love what he did about when he when he met Robert Kraft, the owner of the Patriots he goes, like this will be the best decision you ever made. So that right there tells you he's got he's got the guts and all that. And he knew he was going to be a player, but you know enough a Tom Brady man to hell with him. Let's move on. The legals, Mr. T the Bengals take the field, no one they control the AFC north if they get the win. So, man, I'm expected them to come out fired up and play one hell of a football game. And here's another game that looked like it was in complete control the niners were in complete control in this game. Only did all of a sudden now Joe burrow gets hot with Jamar Chase and company. And man, they made it a hell of a game. What did you think of that game? Since you guys are really hard evaluation for me because two weeks ago, I broadcasted the game for ESPN radio..

"Let's get rg three back in the nfl. There's also two other things that just popped in my head. One phil rivers opening the door or not closing. The door on his career was the best news ever because we can hope is a dangerous thing but it will carry us for at least a year or two thinking phil rivers may show up somewhere and we get him back in our lives and then the clip of jamie's getting just rag doll by the By the pads. I i am so so excited for james winston on sundays. Like i'm i we. I think we have to slow. Play it though. We can't root for him to be full hilarious. James throwing pick sixes because we don't want bench. No i want him to come out there and set the set the league on fire and then have one or two slapstick worthy plays per week while he's still playing. Well there are two quarterbacks in the history of the that i think could have fit and seamlessly in the three stooges one is eli manning and the others jameis winston. He's he's hilarious to watch. He's got the best unintentional pratfalls ever. It's the best so get excited. We want him to play. Well with philip rivers thing. He said he went out of his way to say. I'm gonna finish the season. Coaching football right for my high school team right. And then afterwards al comeback so he's this is actually going to be philip rivers doing another fourth quarter comeback but this time for an entire season excited season and it's very clearly just an example of like he. He went home and he had to be a dad to nine kids for the first time in his life and he was like yeah. I don't think i'm retired yet. There's a lot. It's a quarterback driven lead has been for quite some time but if you a general manager today and you had the pick of any in their situation that bannered any player coming out of the draft from this year's draft class to produce immediate end sustained success who'd be your guy large but I think jack wilson to have a great career as well and i love his mobility arm straight. I say charles lawrence's two day too strong he throws a like a classic john elway custody and i think he has a great future for sure and i love the jets. Have don with the offense. They've surrounded with dropping corey davidson. Nazareth denzel mims can stay help. He's another high upside target. They went out and they got a running back in the draft. How quickly do you think that they can turn things around in. What's pretty much wide open. Afc's yeah i think they'll be more competitive here and the allies war I think there's gonna be a huge huge difference for them so I like a lot of what they're doing. Go back two years ago. Jaguars ship Nick Foles to Bears, one year after signing him to $88m deal
"Radio Brady of course not the only quarterback who's on the move this week Evers teddy Bridgewater Marcus Mariota and now Nick Foles balls is heading to Chicago the bears pulling off a trade with Jacksonville Chicago gives up a compensatory fourth round pick in return for getting Nick Foles so what happens now in Chicago here's our Mike Tannenbaum and feel gates there's a restart because in in our last show we had a debate about whether we think this is Nick Foles job immediately or whether we think this is competition to pursue the starting job and he admits will battle it out during offseason workouts if we have them and then eventually during training camp if that goes on as scheduled I look at it like this the bears were settling if they stuck surface did that with Mitch Trubisky yep the rosters to well fortified in too many spots and there were too many obvious concerns and trade you're right right pace may forever have to live with the idea that he took Mitch Trubisky ten slots ahead of Patrick Mahomes and deshaun Watson we get and traded up one of the first round pick to move up one slot to get him really I'm just gonna put but it's over it's done with that I've been two thousand and seventeen fun ways to win football games and salvage I mean it and we talk about this during lunch again the like you know Matt Ryan pays to be feeling the heat a little bit right now right he knows he's got to win this year and this division is not a cake walk you've got a good Vikings team made the playoffs last year an actual Packers team within its energy efficient game last year this is not an all in move but this is a movie you have to make to put yourself back in the mix to be competitive and allow yourself to playing January football Soldier Field again they had to make so I had to make a move etrade you said what is it on the play calling which basically was a three year starter they had one winning season when I was at the Dauphin two years ago were playing against him we want him to throw the ball down the field to the left he couldn't do that he he was thirtieth in the league in average yards per attempt that's a critical statistic that compresses the field and the other thing about Ryan pace the fields point which is your locker room keeps your general manager there is a check and balance they have a championship defense to Ryan pace's credit he could walk into that locker so he felt we could go win with Mitch Trubisky after we have three years of a sample set now you walk and say Hey this guy's won a Super Bowl we have a real chance now it injects energy into that whole program it also has three years left on the contract with twenty one million guaranteed the falls also has the ability now to avoid the deal after either of the first two years in Chicago depending on his

Bengals at the Combine in Indianapolis, taking a closer look at Joe Burrow
"With us here from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis where we will be all week so much going on. I'm waiting next with Adam. Schefter Louis Riddick Todd mcshay and Mike Tannenbaum just to catch you up right now. Here's what's happening today in Indianapolis. It will be a very busy week. At Five o'clock eastern though owners are expected to meet players to talk about the new CBA which could expand the playoffs and move to a seventeen game regular season. We've got forty seven. Nfl head coaches and GMT. We'll be talking today. You're also hear from SEC. Standouts Joe Borough and to a ton of Aloha who also addressed the media earlier today. Jonesboro put on an absolute show as you know on route to a national championship for Lsu setting an FBI. Single season record with sixty touchdown passes and Ditto. While completing a whopping seventy six percents of his passes and not only that but bro won the heisman trophy in dominant fashion receiving a record ninety point seven percent of the first place votes here. Our previous comments from Joe Borough on February seventeenth during a reception. For the Davey. O'brien award. He had this to say I do have leveraged the Bengals have their process and I have my process. We haven't even gotten to the combine yet. There's a lot of things that happened. Leading up to the draft. A lot of information gathered bras. Mother Robin shot down the idea. Her son does not want to play for the bengals. Saying we have no idea where that came from. It's a story out there that has created that doesn't have any substance at least from our perspective here Hasbro earlier today here at the combine. Of course I want to be the first pick. That's that's every kid's dream you know I've worked really really hard for this opportunity and I'm blessed to be in this position. I'm a ball player. Whoever picks me on my go show up? How play whoever for forever dressing? You know. I'm just not going to be presumptuous. About what they WANNA DO I. It's the draft. You guys have been covered it for a long time and you never know what's going to happen so we played a month longer than everyone else and everyone else's been training a month longer than us you know. I wanted to put. I don't I didn't think I'd be able to put my best foot forward here at the combine so I wanted to wait till pro day had another whole month of training and just be the best that I could be when everyone when. Everyone's eyes are on me. You know coming in. If you're the number one pick the teen is picking number one. Is there for a reason? So you're going to have to come in. There's going to be ups and downs and you've got to stay steady through the process. Our research tells us about Joe. Borough is his own man. He's not going to be talked into saying things for other people's benefits so if that's what he said. That's that's fantastic. I'm looking forward to getting to know him getting to meet him through. The process haven't been able to sit down with them yet. But we've got that on the horizon. We'll talk more about Joe. Boroughs plans to hold off throwing here at the combine. But might I'll start with you in terms of do you want? Do you not want to play for the being. You have any issues at all with where we landed at least at this point. No I mean as I said last week Joe Borough at the end he does not have leverage. The bengals have the first pick in the draft. If they want to draft. Joe Joe Borough. That's where he's GonNa go now with that. Said I think it's incumbent upon sack Taylor in the Bengal organization to create the Right Environment. Where he could come in and they could build something sustainable and truly transformative so. I think where we wended. Wendy is appropriate last week. He could've handled that better but to Joe Boroughs credit. I think they tweak things I think they're in a good spot now. He's been well-coached past week. Tower doesn't it. Yeah and Adema to your Do All your contacts. It appears that borough likely young he's projected pick. I still think that's where the bengals ultimately go. And they're sitting there and that's about this a team that needs somebody to revitalize that franchise and they are expected to look to trade Andy Dalton at some point this off season and so when you're sitting there in division with Lamar Jackson there in Baltimore think that they know that they have to get somebody in there. That's going to put some points on the Board Baker Mayfield Cleveland and this is going to be the pick for the Cincinnati bengals. Even Joe was considering trying to exercise some kind of leverage really the only leverage you have is withhold your services and not playing not report even if he was thinking along those lines. Let's say he's doing a deep dive trying to figure out exactly. Just what the Cincinnati offer as far as developing me as a quarterback. Could you blame him? Could you really blame him for wanting to dig? Deep on exactly what? What does the future going to look like during over the course of my rookie contract with this football team would exactly? What exactly is Mike Brown's commitment to go ahead and building out this roster around me because we all know a lot of what's going to happen to him has nothing to do with him and has everything to do with everything that's going to be around him. Just look at the past three or four drafts. And how certain players have benefited from going to certain to certain teams? Just look at l a look at the difference between jar rookie year in his second year. Sean mcvay came in. It flipped his rookie year. People were saying Jared Goff to Canada. All of a sudden his second year is like. Oh wait a minute. Maybe he's not so bad you couldn't blame him. If that was a thought Lewis to that point I also think an opportunity. If you're Zach Taylor to say hey what's happened in the past. It's irrelevant we're going to myself with you and we're going to build something great and we can't worry about what's happened before we have a lot of work to do. But if I'm the bengals if I have a hey coach Taylor. That's worked with quarterbacks. Like you mentioned Jared Goff Joe Boroughs Billy and character. That's a great opportunity for the bengals. Sino three things one. Is that if something were to go on with. The bengals is not going to happen in public and this has been addressed in the past week if it's going to happen behind the scenes so whatever we hear from this point on. Don't even don't even look at it. Don't think about it because it has nothing to do with with what is going on behind the scenes. The second thing is this guy's different cab he beats. It goes a Beatles drummer. He doesn't care what anyone else has done. In the past what everyone else is GonNa do in the future? He's going to do what's best for Joe Borough but the third thing I know about him is he's a football guy he's his. His brothers played linebacker at safety at Nebraska. His Dad's a almost four decades coach in football. He's a football guy at its core. He's from Ohio. Obviously I think when it's all said and done he winds up going in Cincinnati if he's number one overall pick but again. If it's GonNa Happen it's GonNa Happen. Not In the media. It's GonNa happen behind the scenes again. Joe Bro not expected to throw on Thursday. He said he just wasn't ready yet. Not a huge deal. Sam Darnold Kyla Murray. The last two years have opted not to throw here at the combine as well. What did make headlines on Sunday? Oddly enough pros hand measurements the measurable quarterbacks took place on Sunday on the smaller side. Love listen here's what he said after it was suggested his aunt size was small considering retirement after. I was informed that we slipping out of my tiny hands. Please keep me in your thoughts while he's got good company because here's what Super Bowl fifty four. Mvp Patrick Mahomes had to say who had just slightly larger hands than did borough my small Andrew doing great so far all right he should say believe in yet. Here's borough earlier today addressing his hands. Yeah I mean these measurements you can. You can take so much from them if it's a glaring issue on film with turnovers. Yeah it's probably an issue but I didn't have a lot of fumbles or anything like that so I just tried to make a little joke out of it I think it's a non factor I don't get paid to talk about. Measurements and analyze. The measurements like played to play football. So that's what I'm GONNA do. I look we're not gonNA make too much of this question. Well yet about what? They actually do what they're actually measuring here so worry not. We've got a ruler. We've got Louis at. I mean really what you're really trying to do is just trying to measure the expense of someone and they put it down on the ground and you actually hear about guys actually doing hand exercises to stretch their hand as wide as possible although when you're grabbing a football you're actually going to measure from the tip of the thumb to the tip of the Pinky here and this is hard because this is a hard rule and you can't really get good accurate measuring you look tired type by just under nine right. Look I'll give you a non center's Oh that's attention and would have actually done something with my. I mean what's interesting when you watch the tape of Joe Borough? There are situations where people come from behind strip him when he's trying to move up in the pocket and run. I mean that's going to happen if you have nine if you have ten inches so I mean it's not a glaring obvious problem as far as him on the football field and that's why I think it's really. It's just going to be something that will hopefully wind up forgetting about certain the biggest thing is and you know this with all of these drills you know as well. Mike you go back to the tape and you're trying to find something after the fact that says okay. Now I'm going to look specifically at these things so you're gonNA look cold weather rain and then ball security and Joe Boroughs as good as any college quarterback you're ever going to see in the pocket in terms of two hands on the ball and protecting the ball. I saw him in two thousand eighteen the last weekend. In September against Ole Miss. You can go back and watch the tape. My suit was soaking wet when I did the open of that game. It was pouring rain driving rain in anyone who says it doesn't rain in Baton Rouge on a Saturday night is lying to you. Because it poured and he completed seventy two percent of his throws with three touchdowns and zero interceptions in that game. So you go back to the tape and you try to look at these things and what the tape tells you is. He's just fine. You know I had a theory here. I have an interesting experience with hand size so I was forced out in two thousand eight. We were we trade for Brett Farve and just as a fan of sport. I can't wait to go out to the first practice and watch Brett farve throw. There's nothing physically imposing about breath and he goes out there and he's throwing Abe I've ever seen and I ask them like what is the value. Where's this philosophy comes from it? He said you know what Mike I have long fingers and I actually couple of football the way a lot of people throw a softball. I could actually be over the top and that's where I get all my philosophy from just watching my practice. It was unbelievable to watch though. I know as Lewis show. There's a tradition of how we measure hands but finger. Length is actually an underrated aspect of playing quarterback so far so far small hands but long fingers and you know what my pinky and all the time strong throwing football pictures of the five. It's easily the least important finger in the hand and I can't remember it ever being a big factor. It's all there in the grip. The pinky to me doesn't matter. It's archaic. How we're measuring the quarterback's hand span now with that. Said there's thirty four quarterbacks in the last fourteen years who have been drafted that have had hands of nine inches and smaller and really only two of them had any sort of Sustained Success Ryan. Tannehill is one of them and Jared. Goff is the other. That's it so there are thirty two out of thirty four. Who have failed. But are we going to say that he's going to the Joe Boroughs? Not GonNa have success because his hands tells me that the reason for their failure wasn't because they were nine inches weight.

Around the NFL
Jaguars' Tom Coughlin may have violated NFL offseason rules with one simple statement
"Tom Coughlin. The Jaguars executive vice president said Thursday that players absent from the beginning of phase one of offseason workouts, quote were close to one hundred percent attendance. And quite frankly, all of our players should be here. I mean, he's still doing this stuff. The old military, man. Tom coughing west, you know, with the with the collective bargaining agreement coming up. Are we gonna do away with farce of voluntary? If you have guys going on record saying, I'd I expect you hear suck only involuntary I agree with that in principle in theory. But the one exception I would make is Jalen Ramsey and Leonard fournette for the Jacksonville Jaguars. They had so many issues last year with commitment with the clubhouse with teamwork with chemistry and Jalen Ramsey. I don't know what he's doing with his career. But I don't know what's going on with great football for the most part not last year played. Well, I mean, he was an all pro defensive player of the year type candidate the year before last year. He was average. Well, there's no question that Leonard fournette deserves to be in that spotlight. I just find that. There's no other team. I can really think of around the NFL where there is a non coach non GM consistently issuing these demand. Here is I mean like he is. He is what Mike Tannenbaum was in Miami. Or the more more with like a microphone, but he's in charge. Everyone knows. I would say then I would say eliminate the ruse and remove this GM in waiting or be the coach the same in what way remove him from the organization false achie- and like either like, Jim he's he want. He's in a role. You're the one to be all these other. Come on Coughlin. Getting your lean. He's definitely isn't buying into sort of the Bella check or parcels idea that there's one voice in the organization because coffin wants to be one of the void is don't. For your coach. Then obviously the coach out to answer for two. It's like are you on the same page? Doug Marrone, say that is Coughlan Merlin's, boss yell. Yeah. Sure. But he can say whatever it just it feels messy to me. But maybe it's just like conditioning at this point just lifting weights. Aken I feel like it's not that big of a deal because they can work out with their own personal trainers. And then if they show up out of shape than yeah. That's a problem which which with for not has been right, but yeah. Coughlin's gonna gonna not gonna coffee they're gonna
