"He will be competing for a Big Ten title within three years and could be the next generations Nick Saban. How'd that work out? Anyway, it happened. There's an old takes exposed. Is that the name of the website that repurposes all the stupid things that people like Brando and others say. And within moments of the game ending on Saturday in Dublin, that tweet got out there again under our Twitter handle because old state old takes exposed retweeted it from 2018. So Brando has been doing a lot of reacting on Twitter. A lot of blocking of people criticizing him. Let's get back to the calls and Thad is up next in southern Cal. Hey fad. Hey Paul, how you doing, bud? We are doing great. Thank you for the call. USC, my wife. Went there. I went to athletic state. She has no clue about football. Now she does. She's so cool. What's this Oklahoma guy? No. He's going to take all the California guys who play football in the 50 million. It's fine. It's going to be great. Hello? Yeah, I'm listening to everything you're saying. Oh, not really understanding. Hey, he came from Oklahoma. We love him. My wife didn't even know anything about USC football. Okay. She's like, oh. She went there. They supply. It's great. And they're going to be great. They're probably going to win. 9 games this year. 12. Next year, they're going to play. What? Oregon? And they're going to have to go over to Notre-Dame playing the cold and whatever. But then you have to go to Big Ten. Okay. How many people in California? Because my kids are in California, they're four and 6 years old. They do not want to go and play in the Big Ten. And the cold. You see? Listen, not every game will be told just every game after mid October. No, I'm from California to state. It's cold there, kind of. It's Clemson. That's where I grew up. Love their games. Great atmosphere. Yeah, but you know what? Decisions. Decisions with big time college football are not made on the weather. They're made on marketability and money and southern Cal was drowning in the pack 12. They made a very good deal. I think there will be successful. They have everything in place. And I think they're going to be on a much bigger stage than playing a bunch of Washington states and cows and Oregon states and Arizona states. Games that do you absolutely no good. Thank you for the call. I think Kobe is up next in Oklahoma, hello, Kobe. What's up, Paul? And I kind of got off on talking about the contract you'll write and all that. But I just want to let bad know the caller from California that your coach, tell your wife, she don't know anything about football. And she knows more than you. But one of the. Rallies of fraud, you have a false sense of security. You got no offensive line. You got no defensive line. You got some great skill position players, but you have a coach that don't know how to coach the correct players. Now that I'm going to get off on that ball, how are you doing this Monday morning? Monday afternoon. I am doing great. Kobe, and I now, yeah, go ahead. I clear that up with that, dude. That's a big disappointment out there in California. I have to say that right now. You might as well get used to me calling him. Without you coming into that, do you think? Might as well know my number, put it in your phone. But what do you think the first, so me and you, we determined 2024 OU Texas coming over, you didn't answer my question with what you thought respectively what they do with their first year in the SEC. It's a tough conference. I realized that I know you've been very, very critical about you over the years for not being able to get it done. And I realized that, but I just think minimal is coming in and being a defensive minded let me ask you a question, Coby. Why do you think Brett venables will be able to do what Lincoln Riley and bob stoops could not do? Because everyone wants them. Well, everyone wants to love bob stoops, but after that first title early in his career, he mostly choked the big game away. You're absolutely correct. I will not run from that, and I will not argue that. But we're starting off with on a good note, Brett venable had never coached a game of football as a head coach and he has a better recruiting class without even coaching than Lincoln Riley in the last 5 years. That's just starting out. I know you ain't going to be world leaders this year. We all get that. Ten and two, 9 and three, respectively, probably. But under Lincoln rally, a lot of us OU fans, we were had a full sense of security, he could always get it there, always had this guild division. Didn't have a defense that could play 5 a football instead of Oklahoma could play better defense. Just defense, crap the bed every year is frustrating. I think a lot of us in Oklahoma are just excited to get back to that smash mouth defense in the 2000s that bob and Brant and even Mike stoops had when they got there. A lot of hope and optimism and a lot of reinvigoration there in Norman, man. I'm telling you. I know you're not on the bandwagon, but we are. But what I want to get and what I want to matter being on the bandwagon or not, and you talk about me being critical of Oklahoma. I'm simply just pointed out the obvious and quite frankly in relation to the SEC. I think Oklahoma will be helped by getting in the SEC. I don't think they'll have any more difficulty adjusting than anyone else. It's a first, it's one of the best football programs in the country. And you're getting in the best league. And I think it helps everything about your program. The recruiting is already at a high level. Now it possibly can go to a higher level. Right. I just feel like the culture and the better recruiting obviously the money is going to help, but yeah, I don't know. It's just going to be one of the things where the wait and find out. I know you need the quarterback to compete, what they got and going to cut it. What do you see? I mean, realistically, if they're going in 2024, what's the first year expectation win loss? Kobe, I can't answer that until I know what their schedule looks like. But I don't think it's going to be a whole lot different. I mean, not to minimize the SEC, but in the SEC, if you're at a high level and you've recruited well, you will compete. And you can break through. I mean, right now, the SEC is going through we don't know about a couple of programs, but can Oklahoma compete with Alabama, Georgia, and Texas a and M. Yeah, I think they can. Well, recent history of their camp. That you should well, I don't know. Well, you're talking about a one off game, though, is my point.

"Frankly, this is not coaching searches used to take weeks, so it's not like this is going slow by any means, but people they want the stability, like nerd aversion, they want answers. The name that seems to be perking up percolating the most right now is Brent venables, the Clemson defensive coordinator who was at Oklahoma with bob stoops for a long time and the interesting twist there would be, it's not like he left on great terms. He left because bob brought Mike stoops back. His brother to be the defensive coordinator or the main defensive coordinator. So I guess the question is, has time healed those wounds? That'll be a good question. I do think he's a real candidate there. He's done really well at Clemson. You know that joke istic Leon is not shy about hiring a first time head coach because he did it with bob and that worked out great. And then he did it with Lincoln and that worked out great. So he also has a reputation of being a tremendous recruiter. So there's a lot to like there. I mean, I wouldn't be surprised this is a name I haven't heard much, but I would not be surprised if they looked at Mike elko. He's a really good defense coordinator. He's been up for head coaching jobs. He's not Texas and I'm now. Obviously knows the SEC, that transition probably would be hard for him. I've heard that Shane beamer is somebody they would are considering over at South Carolina. Remember, he was there in one surprise me when I heard about that. It would or would not. That would surprise me. Okay. He had one 6 and 6 season in South Carolina and I was ready to be the head go to Oklahoma. That's fair question. I mean, look, I think the 6 and 6 season was better than probably something people expected. Don't get me wrong. There's a lot to like about him. As a candidate, it's just, I don't know. Things seem to be he seems to be on some sort of rapid ascent right now. What do you think of Barry Switzer's dream candidate? And I think it's likely. I think that that's a higher that you make to make a splash. I don't know that that's the best hire for Oklahoma. And look, Mike, so far has probably done as well if not better than I could have expected him through two seasons of Mississippi state. But they went 7 and 5. You need somebody who you feel very confident can lead you into the SEC and contend for SEC championships. One thing that's an interesting storyline that's starting to develop here is Matt Campbell, whose name is probably been mentioned for this coaching carousel more than any other coach. Camera close on USC. They get ended up getting Lincoln Riley. He's not going to be the next coach at no name. So then people immediately turn to Oklahoma as the next possibility. If that doesn't happen, it's becoming more and more likely that he's still the Iowa state coach next year. And I just don't know how that relationship will be when school's fan base to start to get a little feel a little bit burned when they know that the coaches trying to get out. Well, I don't know how vigorously Matt Campbell would have gone after Washington if at all. I don't think he was interested in LSU or Florida or at least I don't think that was a something that was discussed. I know he's had opportunities to go NFL in past year. So I think he's going to be, I think like a lot of coaches even probably like to some degree like Luke fickle. I think he's going to be picky on where he wants to go, but I would have thought if USC was coming, I think that would have been a tough decision for him to make. I think if Notre-Dame were to ask. And I think that would have been a tough decision. Given the jobs that are left out there, and Oklahoma is an interesting one just in the fact that if you don't know what other dominoes might end up, we don't open it. But he is, you know, he's a three time big 12 coach of the year. He has beaten Oklahoma more than once. He knows that league and obviously they're not going to be in that league too much longer. But still, I would think if your joke is to glean, I don't know how you don't really strongly consider him. Right. Man, imagine if I told you back when USC and LSU fired their coaches that, in this, again, we're not there yet, but if it does turn this way, turn out this way. If I told you that Lincoln Riley and Brian Kelly would change jobs. But Matt Campbell will still be at Iowa state next year in Lukaku will still be a Cincinnati next year. I'd have been very surprised. Yeah. You said there were some other playoff question you wanted to ask? Yeah, so it is related to the CFP expansion. There have been meetings this week in Dallas. I think and you can correct me if I am wrong on this. I think there was a heavy expectation that we are almost certainly going to get playoff expansion into 12 teams out of this. Was everybody wrong to believe that? Or you tell me? I think everybody was right to believe that until Oklahoma in Texas left for the SEC. And then I don't think we anticipated just how much that would end up impacting these discussions. But I gotta tell you, it's getting ridiculous. I mean, I had been told a couple of weeks ago that that meet that December 1st meeting that just came and went that they felt like they had to make a decision. Because if they don't, they're running out of time to because you have to renegotiate bold deals, you have to negotiate a new TV contract, that they're running out of time to implement something before the current contract is out. December 1st comes and goes, they decided nothing. They are still at a stalemate and the stalemate seems to be. Everybody agrees they should expand it. But there are now conferences that are not relenting on wanting 8 teams instead of 12. And there are conferences that when I say conferences I'm referring primarily to the alliance conferences. That want it written, you remember the original proposal was 6 the 6 highest ranked conference champs. Whatever conferences those may come from. Probably in practice, it's still going to be the power 5 and one group of 5, but you never know possibility of two group of 5. Well, the alliance conferences wanted written in the document in the constitution, if you will, that they themselves get automatic access. And obviously the group of 5 doesn't like that. So we're at a stalemate. And Ross dollinger put up what I thought was a very telling and creative flow chart. Did you see this? I didn't. I'm going to have to I'm going to have to Twitter search it now. Yeah, he tweeted this really, I'd say I'm using, but also kind of mind numbing flow chart of basically. Pull it up here. I see it. Yeah, so it makes it really crystal clear, right? How many teams are involved? 8 or 12. And then under 8, how many aqs? If it's 6, no, the SEC among others won't vote for it. If it's less than 6, then the group of 5 won't vote for it. So 8 seems dead in the water, but let's go over to 12. Who gets a Q's? Power 5 champs and the highest ranked group of 5 champ? No, AAC and others won't vote for it. Okay, 6 highest ranked champs. No, at least the ACC and Big Ten won't go for it. So we're at a stalemate. And if that still may continues.

"But excellency clemson losing to another team. So i will say the big twelve twist. The big twelve has the best chance of being left out. Padilla food require oklahoma to probably lose a couple of games. Yeah look i. I think just for what clint said. i'm not saying oregon is gonna escape through the you know. The rest of the season undefeated but oregon plays at ucla That i don't think they have to defeated feed it. They'd cushion the. That's why i think right now. My feeling is. There's a better chance for the pac twelve and there will be for the big twelve. I could be totally blown up soon. But that's that's what. I'll throw out there you. I'm actually gonna say the big ten Because ohio state to me they lost that cushion the other day and if they lose another game they're probably out and i'm still not sure there's somebody else in the big ten that's more playoff-caliber than them and we talked with eilon here. We got very excited about iowa in the wake of that I was state win and then a couple of days. I'm looking at it going ha. They haven't done anything offense in the first two games. It's been all defense and turnovers. And so they gotta go. Gotta go to iowa around halloween. And they have penn state at home. They have a tricky one after camp next week where they play. Colorado state your rams so I dunno i look at. I would think they could. I do think i could be a playoff team. They could be in ohio. State still could be as well But you know for all the reasons you said like i still think. Oklahoma has a playoff run in them. Clemson just it's hard They could happen but there's not many teams that scheduling invasion than losing to ohio. State does have an easy stretch coming up here. But if that defense doesn't get better they probably are gonna lose another game. So maybe someone in. They're not expecting them to from speaking of ohio state from patrick wider got or wieder from lancaster pennsylvania. Love the podcast on the great work. You to do how much along leashes ryan day give kerry combs at ohio state. The last two years have been below the standards expected at ohio state. Somebody asked me in the written male bacterial. I think he's gonna make it through the season as defensive coordinator. What do you think. I'm not so sure he will like. There is a guy on that staff who was basically defensive coordinator. Not entitled matt barnes when All the stuff was going on with the tragedy of the jordan. Mcnair death at m- at maryland. Matt barnes really was kind of the de facto. Defense coordinator did a pretty good job there. he's got more of a role now at ohio state was hired. I think as a special teams coordinator. It wouldn't surprise me. My barnes ended up being much more hands on with what they do. Defensively a we talked about this. I mean they were just in over their heads. Their players look totally lost I don't think ryan day's gonna gonna ride with that that much longer. If it doesn't get fixed rind as pretty blunt about it at his press conference this week that it's been a pattern now and basically opened up the possibility of just about anything. Other than firing kerry cones that there might be changing responsibilities and whatnot but yeah. We'll see i think You know i would. You would think if you wanted to make that move or thought that move is going to be necessary. You go ahead and make it now Rather than waiting and seeing if maybe another disaster happens at some point but definitely. I can't frankly i think maybe since mike stoops's oklahoma have can. I remember coordinator getting this much criticism. I mean he's just like across the board man this guy's doing a terrible job Can i say towards to blow pollini point good point. That was just last year with that. Can we end on this question. From james and raleigh. Hey stew and bruce as an nc state fan. I don't know how i should feel about the tenure of dave doran. It seems as though he has these games whereas teams just fall on their face. This year at happened to be in week. Two dorna's improve the talent at nc state. There is no doubt he's arguably the best coach in program history however i cannot help but think he has hit the ceiling at nc state and might be to time to move on. Am i wrong in thinking that. This is an interesting questions to on gave. Doran is one of the 'nigma of of all time coke. First of all this line. He is arguably the best coach in program history. How is that possible. How could dave dorn. Be the best i know. Nc state isn't alabama. I feel like chuck amato had a better run at nc state. I mean when when he at least they had philip rivers and they were. They had one top ten He went eleven and three in two thousand two. They were relevant. I mean i feel like they were on big. Espn games all the time. Nc state football hasn't been relevant. Frankly the entire time. He's been there like nobody. You name one big win as he stay. Football had now. They've had winning records. They have put people in the nfl but it just it just has always felt very empty. It's not like they have some signature win over clemson or somebody else. I knew they were gonna lose mississippi state. 'cause that's the kind of guy that's never the kind of games that they win. So is he hit a ceiling guests. He has hit a ceiling. What's amazing to me. I never realized this until this morning. This program is never finished in the top. Ten ever like i. I didn't realize that loophole tatham eleven. I think chuck amato had them. Chuck amato had them Twelve i'm sorry. So but they've never finished higher than that. I mean he's done a really good job with developing talent. I mean they have a lot of really good players who've come through there. It's just not really been able to get it much further than that went on here. I looked up vinci's coaches and given his statement about the best coach helped. I thought i was going to come on here. And see dave doran had like six fifty. Winning percentage five thirty three about the same as tom. O'brien before him. Lower than chuck amato. They've actually lower than dick sheridan. They finished in the top twenty zero times. There were twenty three in two thousand seventeen. I might have been one of those years when tennessee came sniffing around Degraded coach and nc state history by a country miles earl edwards who won five acc championships between nineteen fifty. Four and nineteen seventy. I'm sorry. I don't mean to keep piling on Sherwani met well with that statement. Long story short. It seems like person. I both agree that Nc state could do better than they're doing now as always. You can send your emails to the ottawa pod. Gmail.com enjoy the game this weekend. Auburn penn state Florida alabama asu. Byu's under the radar one and cincinnati. Indiana and more. We'll see next time..

"Can they just avoid lose. It's like they always drop when the kansas state iowa state or you turn around for one second and you look back and they're like wait a minute you know how did you do. You feel like this team with alex. Grinches the dc. Who you can give me spencer radler. All you want that defense to me is the one that's got to save you win those games. 'cause the offense is always gonna to be there. Yeah he hit the on. Had the the the thing that makes me so optimistic for oklahoma this year to not just win the big twelve but actually win a game. Possibly is that defense. It's not going to be an elite defense. I wouldn't think but they were a top twenty five defense last season which is a big big improvement for where they were in the end of the the mike. Stoops era there so You know you've got a quarterback because being projected as the number one pick. They've got two really good running backs so they have some depth issues now behind that If they drop a game of somewhere along the way in the big twelve with their twelve and one i i would assume they'll be there I actually think the big twelve as i did my research for my conference Predictions for everybody. You know dumping on the big twelve right now. Because of what's happening reliant on the field twenty twenty one. I think they could be the toughest conference outside the sec. There is a gap. there obviously But i think that you've got first of all to legit playoff type teams in oklahoma iowa state then i think they go six maybe even seventy of teams that i could see being in the top twenty five and i can't say that union in about the big tent to be honest true you you look again and this is kind of one of those years where a lot of teams have a lot back as well. You've heard the iowa state love in the big twelve iowa state. getting a tunnel of. We'll see how that goes should be a great match up when they play but going to the second matchup clemson and ohio state using the little deductive reasoning skills. That i have stewart. I'm guessing since you have clemson and bama in there. Do you think clemson beats georgia week. One or two early to make that prognostication..

"Find out lot about you quarterback spring football so they had to find out in a limited time and fall practice what he could do and that was really stressful for nali patriots but also for the coaching staff. Out what he can do because usually when you get into fall after this spring you. Have you have a good idea but you still need that fall to to do a lot of rinse and repeat rinse and repeat how much coordination is going on With the defensive side of the ball where you wanna see some different looks from defense during fall camp. And how much are you know like you would be talking to You know Bob stoops or somebody and tell them. Hey i wanna see some blitz packages out. 'cause i think we're going to see these things from these people during the year A great question. The two philosophies when i was with hayden fry. Hey didn't want the defense to get tricky. He wanted his quarterbacks to feel ill big time very confident so always ones against the threes in the first off as just the third team defense and vice versa first team defense versus the third team office he just hayden was always wanting to build confidence in his player so now sometimes that was by backfire. Little bit tom because we get into the game. All said hey. Those guys are playing like thirteen hours. You know those guys are lots astor but He always liked those preseason games. Those non conference games early to warm up to that. But that was just flossy. He wanted his quarterbacks to feel like they were ju- confident they you know and he built that confidence up. That way now fast forward. I'm coaching for bob. Stoops and oklahoma. It was never that way. it was one versus ones. And you could do anything you want. There was never a time where we could tell. He's in a defensive guy. We couldn't tell the defensive guy Defecit coach what to do. He just said. Charlie you just get out there and play ball and you script how you wanna script. And we're going to butch every which way now the beauty of that is by mike. Stoops's guys a.

"Last year, I've got you guys with Barrett Jones and Sean Kelly on the call. For Old Miss. It's you, Mike Stoops and coach Kyle Flood who I love to death. We'll talk. We're just kind of sitting here on on the 50 Brian Denning about 118 Heat Index and you brought up. You know that the play from the previous week and it was all about fun. And that stuck with me because for people don't know. The story, described rock scissors paper between Judy Waddle and Devante Smith because men right then I was like Sock is back, folks. He's gonna be a head coach again because he's not just he's not going to grind you into the ground. He's also let you have some fun. As players described that what what? That that moment that play what that means to guys. Well, it was coming out of a time out. I think we might have just gotten a turnover. And we were cut all in the huddle. And everyone was kind of like, okay, Coach. What do you think? You know, they get excited. You know the players excited. You know me well enough, and that like I'm a pretty aggressive play caller and I put a lot of trust in our players to make good decisions. And so I let him know what the call was gonna be, and they all got excited. They all wanted to be the single receiver on our sideline for the play call. So they started playing rock paper scissors for who could play that spot, which I thought was pretty cool because it was a couple things about it. One we had we teach Our players to learn concepts. We don't teach him to learn one position, so they all can play everywhere that they were all comfortable enough to want to be in that spot to that. There was almost some joy and that Yeah, they wanted the ball. But yet if the other guy was gonna win this rock paper scissors, they were gonna be kind of happy for him. You know, that's the environment we created. But oddly enough, what happened in the play? I really think I can remember. Rugs are a lot of lever One model of the middle. What on a model doesn't win the rock paper scissors, he loses. Can't bear If he was, it might have been rugs that one. What happened is rugs runs the post route. He gets double covered, and Waddle comes from the other side of the field and catches the 40 yard game. So the rock paper scissors really didn't play out the way they wanted it to, But I just thought, man These guys gotta love what they get to do, You know, I mean, this is college football. And when you're confident you put in the work and you prepare, it's okay to be loose. It's okay to have fun doing what we do. And I think that's what the best teams do. You know. I mean, I've watched clips of Brett Farve getting in the huddle or Joe Montana getting in the huddle. Or should I was watching a video the other day of Vince Young, it practice dancing with the offensive line, getting ready for the national championship game..

So we get to the New York just opening their coaching search and urban mind me having another team for services trying to get back in the game news out of Alabama regarding a former coach about the joint staff Index saving Yeah, and this is AH, It's the big one. Bill O'Brien, former head coach, the Houston Texans. After and I'm going back now, two weeks. It was a Saturday and it was before the Rose Bowl. So you're going back to the Saturday before the rose. Give me the Yeah, yeah. Against Notre Dame. Um, the Rose Bowl's in Texas. But he shows up fusion. Yeah, yeah. I mean, it was like, Wait, What? I was there. I was part of the broadcast. That's the worst part man. I got a boost have the Cotton Bowl in New York City, Bill O'Brien came to campus the day after the rose and stayed in Tuscaloosa. From that we can all the way until Thursday. That's a long time man. It was just to be checking out some dreamland in Archibald's barbecue or hitting up Chuck for some sushi, right, so he wasn't there for the food, right? So He was there just in beyond intrigue, talking to two different people inside that Alabama program. It was he was immense, just completely dove into the deep end of the pool to see what exactly Makes this place so unique under Nick Saving And right now, our man Chris Lowe is reporting that Bill O'Brien, former head coach of the Texans, will be the new offensive coordinator, replacing Steve Sarkeesian. You left to go to Texas. At Alabama. And a hair care we go again. Ready yet? Lane Kiffin? Yes, Steve Sarkeesian? Yeah. I mean, Mike Stoops is there right now, But Jones has got a new guy got coaching job again. You know Major Applewhite and offensive coordinator back in college football. It is the healing hands. Of saving when he lays them upon the on you spend time at the capstone. You leave a transformed angel Kelowna and you go back into the world and you have immense success. Even though I don't need the healing hands of saving laid upon the back show up like Brian Table. Outstanding offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills went to Tuscaloosa to have those hands laid upon him. And now he is a head coaching candidate when the hottest names In the National Football League. That is what Saint Nick does. So here comes Bill O'Brien, the latest one Have those healing hands laid upon his forehead. If you spend one year with that guy, you will be a head coach again. At least a coordinator somewhere with your reputation wiped clean and you have a fresh start. That's for those healing hands. Could do. Mr. Coleman will this girl okay?.

"That 100 grand will go a long way. People said Russell was gonna carry a team at the Legion of Boom was over. Yeah, baby, we stairs, speaking of leaders. You can make the case that Nick's saving maybe the best coach in sports in the United States. It's easy hate on Nick's saving, or depending on where you live next, Satan. Look what he's been able to do not just with players. Reviving the careers of coaches. I use these Sarkeesian. His name was toxic. Not that long ago. Let's be honest. He had a serious drinking problem and drank himself out of the dream job. You always wanted USC. And Nick Saving, as he'd like to say brought him into the healing hands of saving that Steve Starkey is gonna be the head coach of Texas. Butch Jones washed out of Tennessee. Also, he's gonna be the head coach once again in Arkansas State. Vontae Smith, Nick Saban said. You come back for one more year. I promise you're going to be a better NFL player, Vontae Smith took his coach at his word. He has collected eight Trophies, postseason trophies. Before playing national championship game, including Heisman Trophy You don't have to like Nick Saving Nixon really doesn't care. That process thing he talks about seeing the work out pretty well. Alabama and not just with players. With reclamation projects you give a misfit toy. Also that becomes brand is shining new in the next seven. You can make that case and no one will laugh at you. That is bad is he has been in terms of not being that personal coach. Maybe the best coach in professional sports or an amateur sports in the United States. Lane Kiffin, Kyle Flood into Rapid white look at Brian Table after he came down to Alabama for year two, and now look what he's doing. A Buffalo's OC might be a head coach in the NFL in 2021. Yeah. Mike Stoops is there right now than analysts as well. He will be a head coach. About two or three years subject you, man. When you get to the Church of the right regulations, hands upon.

"Bass drop supreme lending Tito's handmade vodka, our bank and Sue Patrick. Obviously the big news around the world of college football. Tom Herman is out as head coach for the Texas Longhorns and Steve Sarkisian, the offensive coordinator for the Alabama Crimson Tide is in hired this afternoon to take over. The duties as head coach for Texas. He will be coaching in the national championship next week. We know that so it is kind of a dead period because usually you'd want your head coach to get to work and right away. You want to meet the recruiting trail, but right now it's sort of a dead period so he can stay focused for the national championship and prepare for that, And once it's over, I'm sure he'll be making his way back down to Austin. To get to work a lot of questions. Still around. While that need be answered a whore is guys who who's gonna pick Who's his offensive coordinator? Abuse defense coordinator gonna be? There's already a swamp full of rumors around on who he might pick. Feel which or or quite confusing being will must champ, the former defensive coordinator, Texas a lot of rumors that he might be coming to Austin and I don't think so. Mike Stoops, the foreign defensive coordinator for Oklahoma can't be on higher God that hated Texas become coach of Texas Reese Ash might be sticking around. That would be kind of awkward. How about this? How about a guy who's been coaching alongside Steve's occasion the last few years? Be defensive coordinator. Charlie Strong. Now, that would be the switch roof Switching. How about a guy who's been coaching me? Steve Star occasion to be the offensive coordinator? Major Applewhite. Major Apple. I don't think he's legally allowed to step on the 40 acres more. What about? Well, you know, actually He could. He could be really what I think will must damn it would be strange because at one point he was the I'm gonna put the air quotes here, coach and waiting to take her for Mack Brown, and he kind of got the boot. Um, I would. I would welcome will must ship back with Texas. He's a brilliant coach. He wasn't a good office. He wasn't a good head coach. But the guy is a great coordinator. It just you know that this offseason will be very Entertaining for cultural fans watching How Texas the thing about hiring a coordinator rather than a head coach, you can build coaching staff where when Tom Herman came to Texas For the most part, Texas got Houston's coaches. A lot of the guys came over with Herman. And so now Steve Sarkisian can pick his own guys. He can build up and I know that one of the first I said this in the first segment. A lot of the current Texas players, mainly defensive players were tweeting their vocally and supportive Brian Carrington, coach for Texas. Who's the main recruiter who has great relationships with Ah, lot of the players stand. Drayton, the running back. Coach got a lot of support. There was a lot of Keep Stan Drayton keep Brian Carrington. So I'm wondering if Sarkeesian will usually it's Hey, recruits his friends in approach people He's he's coach with before and money is no object here. That's the thing that's going to be interesting Been to Tom was making a little north of $6 million will make more and see. That's ridiculous. You made that is patently ridiculous. But money's no object over there. This whole higher. Let me get back in again. I wish Steve Sarkeesian the best. You clearly do not like that. You know, I could tell you if I could tell your voice. I don't like the higher I don't know to think it because I think we're trading apples for Apple's Steve Sarkisian. Mediocre it wash sideways Pick. Let me let me finish. Steve Stark Asian was 34 29 in Washington. He was 12 at six at USC before he got fires, drinking for being drunk practice. He was having drinks and practice what his drink is. I don't know what his drink is. But his overall record was 46 35. This is a huge gamble. For the University of Texas and others. This is a huge gamble band. You not to mention that Austin is home to Tito's handmade vodka exact with no drink here, but the thing is to been we've we've heard all this time Christo Katee saying, Oh, Tom Herman's gonna be our coach in 2021. We hear all the time from the regions and people. Oh, we're gonna get a proven champion. Stage starting stage. Stark Asian has not sniffed ID any type Initiative championship. He never wanted to have a ship watching old lawns fixing win one. He's not the head coach. He's a coordinator. He's a coordinator that let me say that again with with an offense three of three of evolves out three of his offensive players are gonna be in New York of the Heisman finalist ceremony. Who's that remind you of Tom Herman. He was a coordinated for Ohio State when they won the national championship. We're getting we're getting Nick Saban Light. Yeah, we got we got urban Meyer. Like with time. Herman. This is the University of Texas. And you're getting a guy who got fired for being drunk at USC. And you're saying oil? Interesting. This is gonna be the greatest star of all time and This is a great investment has burned said, though, if Nick saving Trust the guy, Texas fans have to trust the guy. Why don't we go get next day? If you get this if you get the stamp of approval on Mars said the same thing about time, Herman so MMyers not Nick statement? Yeah, He's a great coach. He's not next week. Seven. It's the Most brilliant mind ever coached college football. You know, it's actually kind of the irony of all this right now. We're watching TV. Right now. We're watching. I was state Matt Campbell Defeat organ and Matt Campbell, his players. They're going absolutely nuts for him right now. And this is a coach who I think probably would have would have been a better fit in Texas. Undoubtedly he would have and he's a winning head coach. He's not an assistant coach. Let's go to the phone lines. John is calling on Lamar. Hello, John. Welcome here on the end Zone Club on K. L. B. J. Hey, I want to let you know that I was lying when I said that I wanted to talk about what the pics will be for Steve when he comes in. What I wanted to let you know is you guys don't have to worry. I heard that Herman is not out. And this phony from Washington. He is he is gonna fail and they're going to go ahead and they're gonna recount all them board of directors. Oh, boy, Your whole thing is gonna just blow up and we'll keep Herman for another couple years, So it's a fraud by now. John. Thank you for the call very much. Yeah, it's this is not like politics back on serious stuff. Matt Campbell did a great job at Iowa State. The Big 12 did a great job in bowl games. I, you know, I hope I grow to like Steve Stark Asian. But right now, this is same is business as usual from the money people in Houston and Dallas. And you have people in power coalesced to the money, people and again we're giving Tom Herman and its assistant coaches $24 million to leave town, and that sounds really, really unseemly. Unseemly in the time of a pandemic, But it gets kind of the thing you know he does have. He has a lot of, you know, incredibly high upside and he is still pretty young, who has upset But you know what? We've seen that before. With Tom Herman? Yeah, Tom Herman. It is almost young and he has a lot of upside, but again, like you said, it's a big gamble here because he's very unproven. You know today, The trend is to get an offensive guru. You want to get the next office of genius? See, that's what we thought. We have a time. Her I know, but it's just like we saw with Tom Hartman to see the flavor of the week right now. Steve Sarkisian. I think we're looking at the flavor weekend. Matt Campbell. We can't text that even we didn't weigh. Don't see him in Austin. Right now we got we got the assistant coach Flavor of the week. We're looking at Iowa State's head coach for the next probably 15 years. Texas. I don't know. Is this gonna be the cycle of 34 years head coach, then move on 34 years to move on. That's the thing that bothers me because we never should've fired Mac Brown and Charlie Strong was a disaster. Nice guy, but disaster Tom Herman. We thought was going to be a great hire. From what he did it Houston from what he did in Ohio State, and it didn't turn out that way. I am just shocked because we've been hearing for the last month that Tom Herman was going to be the head coach at 2021. They win big over Oregon. We see glimpses of be John. Excuse me, Colorado. We see great glimpses of John and Casey Thompson and Josh mourned, thinking Well, maybe he can win with this group. But and then today, boom he's fired. Well, he got his is buyout went down $5 million at midnight last night. Five minutes make probably about $7 million when he sells his house out in West leg. Comanches hit the big old lottery..
