"Yes for those of you don't remember Mike Stevens turning forty on Thursday and he's celebrating his seven hundredth show next Saturday an outside the loop radio was my producer for several years I used to wake him up on the couch there's a given there's a couch in the produce a room where you are right now actually for those who remember Tom Peterson used to be the head of the news room here and that he would be sleeping on time Peterson's couch and then in the news office that's fine I remember those might come out we got went out the night before I go home we just cover the radius right smart I've been there I used to the same thing not in the radio business when I was working construction I would show up at mutual and I would derail and Hammond from the bars that night which is crazy because we were probably doing we were driving when we shouldn't have those long before uber and then the guys to come and knock on the window at seven AM on a Saturday I literally work Saturdays my entire life Sir you can't bring that drill into the bar I don't care if you're using I'm gonna fix something come out I right exactly actually Lou you would love the there was this video this viral video of these kids doing getting wherever they wanted to get into if they had two people carrying a ladder they're walking into the movie theater they were carrying a letter nobody asked any questions they're walking into the mall and the mall but you know places like movie theater restaurant you know just walking in while holding a ladder there was a right because nobody like pays attention to that there when I was in high school Joe you're not gonna you're not even born there was a I went to Deerfield high school there was a department store in Deerfield at lake cook and Waukegan road called turnstile anyone anyone all the old people are listening going on remember turnstile and there was a like a psychology or sociology class at the high school these kids were older than me M. A. R. they worked it out with the store and they sold it was like a department store so they so they had a sporting goods section and everything they sold canoes two kids walked in they worked it out with store they grab the canoe and just walked out the front door and nobody said anything right the like all these two people are walking out with the canoe they must've just bought the canoe and so there's a whole psychology behind what and especially now in the era that we our people don't talk to anybody you know I mean it's like hearing your phone you don't communicate nobody tells you anything I'm walking out with this yeah can you hold the door and like the people that work there held the door open for the people while they were walking out with the canoe that they didn't pay for it's amazing what confidence can do Roger stepped up to the microphone because when I said turn style his ears let up you remember turnstile right yeah I am indeed turnstile surer member the other the other store that is no longer there yep right I'll be there nothing Lindsey's error turnstile now those aren't the seltzer drinks that use the nineties was a ninety eight Z. Z. that's all yeah Joe's even going the night right yeah stop talking to him turn his microphone on three one two nine eight one seventy two hundred is our phone number looming for any here with the house Martz radio on seven twenty W. G. N. let's talk with Jeff and payloads park Jeff good morning you're on WGN Hey good morning how are you good how can I help you Sir two problems one in the foyer of my house and it's a ranch the the ceiling is cracking and it's been repaired once and I noticed that the floor tiles in the foyer cracking in and the closet door in the foyer is it won't open as far as it should eight at first I thought it was just no just settling but I I did looking down in the basement there's posts and beams right below it that are you know I don't know if I was anything I can do the eight repairs but it keeps coming back I've named Clarence the cracks and I don't even know who to call who would I call the to take a look at that this is knowledge of yes I do this right I don't think I'm going to be the guy cranking up the floor to Frank that this is actually right in the round of what promises he'll does with their structural repair now it may it may not be the post issue that they have to address but it may actually be the foundation itself on the outside and what they what they can do in years ago I was on one of these jobs with our cameras to show what they do is they come out and they they literally will you know take a look at the foundation in the area where this is happening and and they can dig down on the outside and they put these brackets underneath the footing of the foundation wall okay those are the giant heavy duty L. bracket and then they drive these push peers down into the ground yeah until they hit bedrock and so then once they hit it and it doesn't go down any further than that right it's the giant and its they've so they're right they can precisely left the house up to where it has to be and then you don't have these problems anymore well this is a brick house and and it's not really along the edge of any foundation it's kinda you know in the Middle East yeah and there's a big span of wall yep and then those are the front bedroom and where that between that front bedroom in that wall span that's words have been omitted here's here's the thing it would be twenty feet okay all right well they can still help you with this because they do offer these structural repairs there's the the estimate in the evaluation is free so you don't have to hire you know they have these trained tax to come out to look at this thing and say Hey maybe you know it may be that maybe they got to put some kind of footing in the center and then put an additional peer whatever it may be but they can absolutely address this for you and figure out a way to get you back in back in place so that you don't have this issue reoccurring time and time again eight hundred four two one seal is their phone number thanks so much for the phone call let's talk to us Steve was in Evanston Steve good morning you're on WGN hello and happy anniversary thank you very much thank you so we live in about a ninety year old brick bungalow that will be expanded before we bought the house about twelve years ago and I'm fortunate enough to have separate heating and cooling on both floors but the problem is and and I've heard that whoever did sort of the the punch out on the second floor before we moved here and probably cut some corners and didn't do it right and now what's happening is every winter like every year our master bedroom which has you know really large vaulted ceilings gets a little colder every year and it's gotten to the point where my wife even had to wear a hat coming to bed because it's getting so cold wow and then during this during the summer well the first four might stay pretty cool because it's brick the second floor just big even with our air conditioning running on the second floor so I'm just wondering you know should we be considering some foam insulation to be pumped in because there's probably there's probably some gaps in fact we had infrared past activity you know Chester activity done and it showed that there was some gaps but it was really nothing major that now let me let me let me ask you this Steve do you do you balance your forced air system out between the seasons like have you already done the closing the vents on the lower level to force more heat up have you done that yes yes although like I said we have separate we have separate heating and cooling on both floors of the first floors radiator heat the second floor is forced air heat and then we have separate air conditioning units one for the first four one for the call okay okay now let me try to manage that I try to manage that intelligently you know to our benefit and our kids you know are teenagers rooms which are smaller you don't have no problem staying cool during the summertime it's it's really just a master bedroom with this giant vaulted ceiling you know that's that's the big problem the other thing is we also have a couple of skylights so I'm wondering if during the summertime I am we have some shades and stalled on those yeah stop that from happening last night yeah that's not helping you at all with the you know depending on which way there that he can come in okay so two things if the if the so that the forced air I'm just trying to think this through the second floor is heated and cooled using forced air correct the first floor is heated with radiator but cold with an air handler and for the most part the first floor is fine tell me about the staircase from the second floor down to the first floor it's just I mean it's just kind of a big open staircase it's not open staircase but it's a staircase that sort of you know it's it's there's two sections to it you know so okay here's what I would do this year well that he that he this is gonna help you for the heating we need to balance out that system he said the smaller bedrooms is that the one other thing cold air returns how many do you have on that second floor I mean there's at least I think there's one at least one or maybe there's probably one each get our kids rooms and I think there's two in our master bedroom okay so you don't even think there's I think there's one in the hallway okay right so you have multiple cold air returns in do you sleep with the bedroom doors open or closed but generally we sleep with the bedroom doors close okay so I mean that should be managing you know that should be managing that area pretty well for the cooling part of it certainly adding some shades to the skylight would help you to lower the solar gain that comes into that space but in the winter time the fact that you're so cold up there that to me you can eat you you can either try balancing the system there you know to see if you can open and close vents in other rooms to force more air into the master you can also look into adding an additional run if the system can support it into the master which will help you for both heating or cooling or you can think about some sort of supplemental system like what's called a ductless system that you could add a cartridge into the master that would help for both heating and cooling and whatever separate thermostat they could be added to give you pain point comfort in the master and.
