"Barnett a mystery person What do you mean by that I called Kathy Barnett a mystery because every time she answers a question she raises a bunch more questions She's not transparent about so many aspects of a basic biography that we don't know who she is Would Kathy Barnett be a risky bet for Republicans in November Well listen I've gotten to know Kathy on the campaign tribe respect her story But Kathy's been tested She was tested in the last 24 months in a congressional seat which she lost by 20 points So you get a sense there of what they think here Greg with regard to voters Are they as clueless as most of the mainstream media Kathy Barnett in many cases wouldn't answer questions on Fox News Sunday yesterday even about being an adjunct professor Yes certainly attracted a lot of scrutiny for things she said And in this case many things she doesn't say or question she doesn't answer That could come to her in the winning days of the campaign Just to remains to be seen whether the attacks by Oz and Dave McCormick And they're super PACS which have spent millions of dollars on attack ads The question is will it be enough to kind of stand or at least prevent her from rising further in the polls It looks like it's still a pretty close three way race that we tweeted McCormick and Barnett I wish I had time to go through all these states with you Greg Just in our remaining 30 seconds is the Madison Cawthorn race in North Carolina the next one you're watching That's the biggest one I'm watching He faces several primary challenges led by state senator chuck Edwards But there are also some several House members who have other serious challenges including Kurt Schrader and Oregon Democrat And Mike Simpson and the Republicans from Idaho I'll get together Wednesday talk it out Greg You'll see what you're thinking then It's primary day tomorrow This is Bloomberg Three Ho Progressive snapshot can save you money based on how you drive and how much you drive So the safer.

"Honed which is available on amazon. You can find a link to that down in the show notes. Here are the self-made strategies of dr. mike simpson. I love first of all that you're very oriented in paving your own path and creating your own destiny essentially now. Is that something that you picked up from the military or is that something that that kind of evolved after your time in the military I mean it's roots. Go back to my my upbringing. And then you know in the in the military especially in the sof community. It is very much socrates. So you know you're you rise and fall on the strength of of what you do on your own you know. Everything's done is a team but his an individual whether you're whether or not you're gonna progress is based on you and what you do and there's a lot of a lot of personal responsibility for that because of how it reflects not only on you but kind of that that fear that you might let the rest of the team down and and it nourishes back into the whole meritocracy because you know regardless of what..

Wally i mean they were musicians per se but they were part of the vibe of the whole band that was evident on present onstage during that tour down and he was able to think as i mentioned is good bridge and as you suggested kind of like a a farewell cut a song for the revolution like this is the this is my chance to say goodbye to the revolution on record. Because he didn't have to include you didn't have to include that recording at all on sign at times he could've re-recorded stra. It's gonna be a beautiful night But he you know. I think in late eighty six. He still hadn't figured out who has next band was going to be entirely like you still. Anybody wanted as part of the projects. What are you gonna do. You wanna live song mean. He's done songs that had ally feel to it where it was just himself house quake for example but But you also can tell in house quake even though it sounds like he's trying to create a live setting in studio. "To his music that kind of stuff assured For those who don't my name is mike. Simpson i'm from newport kentucky. Which is part of northern kentucky Or we're right across from cincinnati. Ohio but I actually. I do a youtube channel with a partner in one of my best friends terry. Ross aka p ross and a we have a youtube channel called the purple underground. We've been trying to think how long we've been doing this since two thousand twelve. I believe yeah. I think two thousand twelve so as pretty much. We do Video blogs Album reviews song discussions pirozzi does. He's kind of known for doing on boxing's of new prince releases and We actually have a segment on their called faceoff. Friday challenged where we sort of take to print songs or just two thousand. Just kinda go up against each other. You know just to do something fun the as much. It mean i've just been a longtime Religious a music lover of music enthusiasm music narratives. You wanna have you wanna appear for. So what what. What would you be like your was like your first memory of listening to prince's music if you even remember what that is anymore greg To be honest with you the earliest memory of music was actually the first time i ever seen him was. I wanna say. I was about three years old and i was in my parents done drone and there was a tv show back in the day. I'm sure you're familiar with it. Used to be called friday night videos used to come on. Nbc yup and the first video that ever seen him leisurely was a nineteen ninety nine. Didn't know who the guy words i just. I just heard basang. And i like what i heard and image wise just the very very striking. Look you know the hair the shiny purple trench code. Something about him. He had the beautiful women up there on stage singing along with them yet. Code is up front playing guitar. Yeah yeah it's a great great. You knew what he was doing. Setting up that revolution for the for world domination. Absolutely out so a little bit after that. I think i heard little record vet so i was slowly starting to get my fill of for who this guy was but the person who i always credit who really introduced me to prince as what his name was in his music was my sister. She's older than me but she's really the person who is credit to because she was already a fan is and i think when i seen and heard dumps cry. That's really got me. Okay lemme check this guy's music out so a one day. My father took me downtown. Cincinnati to go look for prince album. And i don't think parang was out yet. It may have been but we were looking for the album and they didn't have. They had nineteen ninety nine and doubts. Actually the album. That i was going to ask my father the purchase but the album. That really had my interest. Wisconsin versi man. You know at at that time. I i wanna say album covers. Were sort of important. Because i think the reason why i get that one because it had his pitching so what to get familiar with his what he look like so so it's not about the album. Cover it really really drew me into. Yeah so that was really. My first sprints album Now looking back on it. I had no business listen to out because at the time i was i was four years old. When when does cry. The music video was already out. But i i really can't remember purple. Rain album was out this yet but shortly after my father we went at pick that out too. Yeah yeah. so you're by nineteen eighty-four like diving into the prince. Deep end of the pool with controversy. Ray i was. I was say you know jason. I would just say. I was baptized. That's that's when i get that ties in the a purple Saver it's so cool though when purple rain came out. And i didn't take advantage of it in a way that i should have at the time but you know it's not like it was his debut album or anything like if you really got into prince with purple rain or even like nine hundred ninety nine and you were just like really into his music really in style of sound you could go back and he had like four albums worth the material that you could have done controversy dirty mind princeton for you and so you had a bunch of music that you could have you know backfield's in your catalog to get yourself familiar with them as he. You know as while you were listening to his current project whether it was nineteen ninety nine or purple right so we had a lot of stuff already in the can. That many of us weren't aware of until he'd cut blew up. I mean yeah. We all know that he had kind of a pretty strong following in the black community. For you know his Prince album it for you. And i see as well but like where i grew up. Nobody was listening to that stuff. You know i. I grew up in a very kind of rural setting and so it took his crossover success in one thousand nine hundred purple rain for people to finally check his older stuff in. It was just kind of cool. It's like wow. This guy's got so many albums already announced where where i been. Where's he been. Why how come. I'm just hearing about this stuff now and you know you just that time you just got to blame. The you know the The media options that were available. We didn't have youtube. He didn't have spotify. We couldn't looking at the internet to see what else was being done. You had to go get to put it a lot more work in. Let's put it that way to somebody's discography like that. I absolutely a again going back to my sister who i. I'm always the credit heard. She played a really big influence on my musical tastes and probably my parents as well But normally cause me. My sister used to sharing their room so she would play the radio a lot so whatever i heard coming out of her a radio you know. That's what i sort of gravitated toward but she actually went to the purple rain show. That was Here in cincinnati. She ended up getting of the tour de with the program. So that's where. I started to see that he had other albums. I started to see the previous albums out. So now i gotta go target stores. Were starting to stock up on some of these older catalog albums from prince after the success. 'cause i doubt that there regularly carrying copies of four you in nineteen eighty-four album. It didn't sell that. Well it's like oh crap we.

"But when i finished the script we start production. We just get offices. Because i'm not worried about nicole setting the movie up so i'll pay for everything to get going and then we'll make our deal and we'll take our time to make the right deal and then i get paid back for everything so that's the kind of situation that's going on. We're in germany. Were casting your bank for production. Yeah yeah. I'm absolutely do that. I've done that for the last night. We're pay for my pre production. Paid back the way. I do mine. Yeah sure why not. Big into the answer is really yes. So you're so you're paying for paper production and then now it literally i. It literally is a situation where i think it's it's tuesday. We had monday. It's tuesday morning and by friday. Universal pictures is gonna be taking over. The account is going to is going to sign the check. And then now we're making the movie for universal right and and i know if i'm gonna pull the plug. I gotta pull up before thursday. And so i call like at six in the morning i call my on my business partner lawrence and he comes down there and a fender bender and i talked to the casting director and i think even at mike simpson the my agent online. I go look guys. We're not finding him. And i'm not so confident that we're going to find him and i just don't want to make the movie if we can't find the perfect linda now this is not as cavalier as it sounds. I mean it's it's a world war two movie world war two isn't going anywhere so we can just like wrap up our box and put it away and three years from now. We did you. Did you know you've written your to meet your master pizza. Did you know you'd maybe written your masterpiece. Yes but i was. I was even more of a masterpiece in the script. Christoph is part of why it's why it might be integrated throw it away but it's just like it's a world war two move we can. We can Put it away and take this out three years from now it'll be a different group of actors and and you would have the key internal for to do that. Oh yeah yeah rather than cast a. That's not right. Hell yeah yes. I'm i'm not only. Are we going to do it. I'm already. i am preparing the emotional dennis. That's great that's important. Yes yeah i am. I'm i got 'til thursday to commit to the a to to cut the limb off completely and nothing twice about it on a mat. I mean it's it's. I can't imagine how painful that week was. So so what have you and lawrence did a great job in this time. I say what i'm saying. He goes. well okay well. then then. What's happening is until thursday. It's just the only people were saying. Are mondays all onto all the time. And if it doesn't work out then lay. He didn't think i was crazy. He didn't think it was silly. He's like no okay. I i get so then We don't wanna do that So until thursday. It's just long dhillon to london. London lada and then Wednesday christopher wants came in and the minute he read the first big sequence me and lawrence just looked at each other and we knew we were making the movie. What incredible but because again the novel. Which i the novel does such a good job of capturing the interior already of these kinds of moments of the missed opportunity when it's right the mcqueen store all that shit. Can you just talk a little bit about so you could emotional dennis. This is exactly what i wanna know right. You had to have that will to samina shutdown. Delay your start to get exotic what happens to you emotionally falling in love with this. Are you filled with joy. Suddenly or is it business like like wh because to me it would seem like watching that guy. Do it on film because i'd read I read that section before. Watching the league's excerpts greatest. I mean i really was like so. It was another one where i took my son. We saw that before it opened in screening and like lost my fucking mind at that. The guy actually could pull it off. You know the pipe the whole thing. 'cause you had it all written boards. The floorboards was scripted. Exactly as you shot it as. Yeah yeah it together but when you saw him doing in front of you like what was. Your emotional valence. Like what was happening inside you. It was. I really considered that. I wrote a character that was unplayable and so to actually see somebody ride that horse and do it perfectly. I mean absolutely perfectly it will i was. I was gobsmacked. And i remember even though he finished. And we're like we're a few sive. We're like oh my god that's great. That's terrific in data. You just you've done so much and then you know. He's very nonplussed about everything he goes. Well look. I appreciate all your platitudes. And i run afoul of a lot of my colleagues. Because i actually believe that an actor can only be as good as material. And so when you're telling me that i am. I've just done such a magnificent job that i am so great and everything. I just feel that you're complementing yourself because the cigna so good you're just complementing your own. Materialists which is what you're doing actually while and then i go okay. Well thank you But no i do think though that when it comes to this character you have an inner compass of what he's supposed to be. Yeah that he thought about that for a second okay I'll accept that. Maybe i do have this compass of which you speak. And then he points at the script and he goes yet. The north pole is the north pole. Exactly the london would say. That's exactly the kind of suppositions he would come through. Of course obviously this guy to learn those. Obviously walls is really smart. Yeah yeah yeah and was able to sort of grasp it. And i just got the idea now of a script being north pole actor. You're now did you ever worry that when he showed up because the you know this you're right in the beginning of the book Wondering sample the book on an ipad because even just the first scene which in the movie isn't down sample. the book on ipad can just push by. Okay okay. here's what happens right you you get the first chapter and then and i'm saying that the first chapter because the that scene agent is so much richer than it is in the movie because he's talking about the missed opportunity and but there's scream where he understands the humanity of an actor. You know the crying and then him relating crying great right actors. We cry from it. Humanizes the agent area it angels. But there's this line in really caught me about hubris. Oh yeah and someone wants to. Edward norton said once to me about another actor. You gotta forgive everybody. The first two years after they become famous because they become assholes. And then you just ignore it or show up two years later and then say you're still an asshole weekend. Write them off if they come back to themselves. That's fine so couple things. The pressure one word that when walls walked onto the floor with the cameras. And you there on the thing that he wouldn't be able to have cool that don't not at all or you knew no no no. It was just not a question. I mean one of the things about it was actually interesting as i as you can imagine everybody in the cast whose llandough what's going on and the only one who knew who was the germans but you but none of the.

"I don't think. I lumped this in with systemic and a lot of other shit We agree to disagree. flash forward about six months to a year later and I got a message from the same individually city mike. I owe you an apology You know the the more. I've tried to pressure test. This i found a lot of holes in it. And i've also found out that a lot of stuff that was a proprietary quote unquote to the spear system is just a a recycling of of old hand and bayonet manuals And i also just from a business aspect of it. This is not something that i'm going to do anymore. I don't like the way the i don't like the way business being conducted And again. I'm i'm really into this you know secondhand so i can't say The validity of it or not As far as you know the business aspect of it in the interpersonal aspect of it. But that's my take on it and this is nothing against. I'm not saying that that. Mr bush doesn't care And you know. I've never met the man I'm just saying that. I don't i from what i've seen the videos i've i've seen i've seen bad fr- some bad framing techniques and some bad escape them out techniques Being sold things that are in direct violation of basic principles and that anytime you have a technique driven system and not a principle driven system. I think that's what you end up with. And i think this kind of alludes to being a principal drew driven system. But my opinion. It's not I've talked to a couple of different neurologists On the subject the gone to the website. And say it's far as they're concerned. Everything on the website pseudoscientific garbage. So that's my opinion. That's one guy's opinion of it. That's that's ag jitsu purple belts opinion of it. Who's never taken a spear seminar. Never met tony blair. But we won't even get into the whole cross fit for self-defence debacle from a few years ago right so yeah i don't i don't think much of it all right so sumi. These are the people that i turn to and send a video to and say what do you think about this. And i've gotten thumbs down across the board. So that's that's all. I can tell you in the future all all. I'm going to try to do a podcast completely dedicated to this. Not not that. I want to tear down You know that i've talked. I've talked about this before that. I don't think people should be teaching things that give anybody a false sense of security that i do have a problem with and i don't think there's malfeasance there But i don't agree. I don't there's nothing about this system thus far that is impressed me Now if people are going and they're getting little bits and pieces from it that they think they add to their game that help okay. that's fine. I'm willing to hear that argument but again i haven't seen anything. The gives me any any indication that n todo taken as a whole taken as you're only training system that there's anything that it offers price still better than sistema or soukous ru which are hilarious but I i have yet to see anything about it. That impresses me and it's funny. Because i posted that today. I posted a comment on somebody else's forum and right away. I got messages from three people who i respect Both of their military law enforcement background. And they're like dude. I can't stand it. So so. I'm not i'm not alone in this and It this isn't about pilot on this isn't about bashing anybody. I definitely don't want to take away and he's buddies livelihood. You guys know me. I'm not going to sugarcoat my opinion. And i'm not gonna. I'm not gonna lie about something to protect somebody's feelings. That's my opinion at this juncture I am open to be inconvenienced. And we'll just leave it at that for now And see what happens. in the future Might have one of these neurologists on in the very near future. Oh in the studio tonight me your host. The reverend canton kick ass and joining me. It's and nobody. We've been talking about this article from health line tom. That is highlighting non consensual internal exams of medical patients. Who have not consented to such. These are apparently according to this article routinely done to patients who are put under anesthesia even when the procedure is not necessary for these particular patients. A tell you what. I'd bet a lot of time taking people to hospitals taking my wife to hospitals when she was dying of cancer. And if if you're going to a hospital or someone you love is going to a hospital. I there should be at least two people there. I mean you and the patient else and the patient right. And i guarantee if someone goes to the hospital with me and i go out for a snickers bar and come back. And they're doing that. There's going to be a bloody asked. Dr on the floor wishing that he hadn't done what he just did. I guarantee yeah and there should be this. This practice is absurd to say the least. Yeah and the problem. Apparently is widespread two thirds of medical students in oklahoma intended. Even say that forget go on another context entered the building and yeah i see where it was. That was the sentence. The problem said they did just shouldn't have been fair to say The article continues. Two thirds of medical students. In oklahoma reported being asked asked to perform pelvic exams on patients who hadn't consented ninety percent of medical students surveyed in philadelphia performed the same exam on an s patients. Who thank you like your tongue now without knowing. How many had actually consented so. These students had no idea whether these patients consented it or not and their and their instructor like yeah go ahead. do it do the thing. Well if you're human. You're supposed to ask these things. Well this reminds me of verse in consented to this reminds me of the milgram experiments right. Yeah like they got a guy in a lab coat and they. Oh the love coach said. Oh she'll do it. he's an authority. I'll just go ahead and do it. Yeah the article continues recently. Several medical students around the country reported to the associated. Press that they too had conducted pelvic exams on unconscious patients and didn't know if any of them had actually given consent many in the medical community scoff at the idea that this is unethical or could be considered assault since this has been standard practice for years now so if you do it all the time it's okay you just because it's routine does not make it ethical and there's also a communist in your eye all the time you still like it right all. Its routine eight in the patients. I yeah standard operating procedure. There's also a common view in hospitals that if a patient already consented to surgery and since surgery in and of itself is invasive then an additional consent for a pelvic exam isn't needed right. I because you know five consented to you. Yeah no cleaning my ear out. Obviously that's all of my orifice except it's kind of not if you take your car to the mechanic and they go. You need a new alternator replaced and and you go. Okay go ahead. Replace the alternator Does that mean that they're also going to replace your muffler. Yeah yeah we broke your brakes taking them apart. You're gonna have to replace some of the well. Why did you take my breaks or bart. I never told you to do that. Consenting to a medically necessary surgery however it doesn't mean a patient consent to a stranger entering the room afterward and inserting their fingers into the vagina. It's true i i mean. I can't believe that not obvious. I'm sorry i still your thought you did. But your words there.

"It's gone. It's been aggregated emasculated taken away. But part of why these kinds of emergency powers exist is because of things like hurricanes, floods or even violent protests. You know, short lived emergencies. And while the pandemic is definitely not under control, it has lasted of very long time. So I'm curious to hear the reactions from governors. You know, Ben, let's get back to you What has been the reaction in Arizona Republican Governor Doug Ducey? So one of the key parts of deuces orders and this is important to remember is that they prevent cities and towns. They prevent local leaders from adopting rules that are more restrictive than do sees own orders. I've been entrusted by the people of Arizona with this responsibility. I'm not going to hand over the keys to a small group of mayors who have expressed every intention of locking down their cities that was widely interpreted as a shot at More liberal mayors in cities like Phoenix and Tucson. It is worth mentioning. Arizona is still one of the worst states in the country for the spread of the virus right now, so there is some fear that the mayor of Phoenix might decide there are more restrictive measures to put in place if do sees powers were to be eliminated. Jimmy. What about Idaho? The thing is, is that these emergency declarations Let states have access to federal aid Money. Idaho could lose about $20 million in federal funding that would go toward the vaccine rollout. Veterans programs, food banks, stuff like that. You know, I guess earlier in the session in January, both the House and Senate wanted to dump this emergency declaration. And that's when Idaho Governor Brad Little held a scathing press conference denouncing the move. They're playing politics, and unfortunately the loser in this shameful game will be you. The citizens of Idaho and this is really out of character for a governor who likes to operate behind the scenes. I He was a policy wonk in the state Senate several years ago, and he even recruited Congressman Mike Simpson, Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson and another former speaker of the House to push back against lawmakers. They call the careless, reckless and endangering the lives of Idaho on that seems to have worked. For now. Lawmakers have kind of backed off, but there are also constitutional questions about it, the state attorney general's office said. State laws allow lawmakers to lift an emergency declaration through a resolution that can't be vetoed. But the office couldn't find any authority like that in the Idaho Constitution, so if they were to do that, it would certainly have a court challenge. Well, we are definitely gonna have to keep our eye on this pen. Giles from member Station, Cage's and Phoenix. Abigail Sensitive member station, W. K R in Lansing and James Dawson with Boise State. "Over during that debate, including House Majority Leader Mike Boyle. I didn't get elected. Come down here and sit around. Let the governor be King. One Republican representative Heather Scott. Even during that debate, declared that the pandemic is over Idaho cases have fallen, but I see you in hospital. Admission rates are still high per capita. We still have one of the highest rates of cases in the country going back to January. 2020. Now we do have those bills to limit emergency declarations and those air still working through the process. Right, Abigail. I'm gonna bring you into this. Michigan is one state where we have seen a lot of challenges to governor. Gretchen Whitmer. She's a Democrat over her covert 19 restrictions s some of her powers already been stripped away, right? That's right Back. In October, our state Supreme Court ruled that one of the laws that the governor was using to issue executive orders was unconstitutional. So not the executive orders themselves. But the law And Republicans in our state Legislature celebrated that as a huge win, but her administration has ultimately re issued a lot of those executive orders. Through the state Health Department. So now we're back in this situation of this ugly fight over how to disperse things like covert aid and extend unemployment benefits things that aren't public health orders. But our last pause worked and cases have been declining steadily for 24 days. What kind of efforts have you seen by Republicans in the Legislature in Michigan? So now Republicans are pushing bills that link two billion in federal funding for education to the governor's authority to close schools or dictate of high school sports can be played. They say they want to give that power to local officials. But they want to set the metrics of when local health officials can act. They've also rejected 18 of winners, appointments to state boards and universities. Republican state senator and McBroom said. Basically, they did that because it was the last straw. There's nothing else we get accused. Put some bills up. Shoulder governor your power Great. Then she vetoes them. Room. Where's the balance at the bargaining table is gone. It's been aggregated emasculated taken away. But part of why these kinds of emergency powers exist is because of things like hurricanes, floods or even violent protests.
