Families of Negro Leaguers rejoice in MLB's decision to recognize league
"On wednesday. Mlb announced that it was quote unquote elevating negro leaguers. Two major league status within its official historical record which helps explain why google searches for the name. Josh gibson suddenly started spiking. Baseball says it's figuring out how to include negro leagues statistics into its canon of sacred numbers. And there is no resume quite as legendary or as mythical as that of the late josh gibson. The catcher that satchel page once unambiguously deemed the greatest hitter. Who ever lived. So i called up shawn gibson. Josh's great grandson and the executive director of the josh gibson foundation to understand what mlb's decision to elevate his great grandfather means to him. Well first of all. I don't like the word elevating. I think it should be more of a merger because niggly baseball player or major league players as well. So that's first and foremost this. And i want to bid tuesday night as josh gibson's greg grants and i woke up as josh jacobs. His grandson asher to cerebral calls questions about this happened. Literally when people say happen literally overnight it literally happened overnight and to wake up and see that in lobby made the announcement and josh gibson. Now what we consider not just one greatest league baseball players he. He'll be considered one of the greatest baseball players of all time and so for us in our family. It's a great honor. Ona understand josh. What you heard growing up from family from friends about how your great grandfather considered his own career compared to those who had the opportunity who were afforded that opportunity to play in the majors for jars. You know and the other great negro baseball players you know. They knew they were great players. They didn't even know by to tell him that it was just a decision At that time it was in that era. that kennesaw mountain land is denied the opportunity to play in the majors but did not stop him. They barnstorm against a lot of white baseball players. And you know as well as we know. I know is that a lotta times. They beat the white ball players in. So that's something right there. And so when i totally stories just in our family. There's we call josh gibson big josh. 'cause josh gibson junior of course is the sense that you can't say jockey get confused. I wanted to ask you about one of big joshes more famous nicknames. He was called very famously. The black babe. When you hear that sean about your great grandfather how does that make you feel you know. Let's say this bridge. Stevens bakers great grandson. He's one of my good friends. We go back and forth back and forth on this all the time. I didn't know that okay. Tell me about your relationship with him. And what you guys talk about on this regard. That's great so burn. Stevens is bait roof. Great grandson and so we always talked about. You know josh gibson's compared to my grandfather. And i'm like well that's what you but if you ask me about. Bay roof is a white josh gibson. So we go back and forth. Is we always say our people always say Yankee stadium was called the house. Ruth bill in ice t's brent are okay but who hit the furthest home running stadio i give them on that one. Well i mean. I want to even push that. Story further sean. Because i grew up going yankee stadium. He's the only human being to ever hit a fair ball out of the park out of the house. That babe ruth ledley built. I don't want to rub it in his face to. I don't go that far. I just say the furthest rebel. We all know he headed out. The ballpark. we know is over near babe. Ruth kane close no all seriously. I've heard several stories two different stories. I heard it. It's out of the ballpark. Been a heard from some players that hit like the top tier of moammar. So you wrote a piece of the undefeated in august about your grandfather's name being on the mvp trophy. And that may have been unthinkable at one point but now it does feel like there could be momentum towards that. Why is this important to you and your family. Then the peak kinda fell on our lap on. This happened to read an article about terry pendleton barry. Larkin and mike schmidt. Making a case to remove kennesaw Mountains landers name off the mvp award and it gets to okay. Well here at a names that they're considering replacing the name with in his frank robinson branch rickey and go shoot josh gifts literally again on the phone with my board directors. I said listen. We just found herself in a race. Let's see how we can win it so for us. I'm hoping that the vwa taking consideration of this and really think twice when they make a decision to rename this after josh gibson but this mvp war if this may not. The jaw is just about josh gibson. This will carry on the legacy of all the other great players as well. Who were denied the opportunity. So josh gibson is carrying several thousand players on his shoulders but his vp award the page. Family the buck leonard. Cool up a bail family. Turkey stars fan oscar charleston. Family all great players will all celebrate. It'll be named after josh. But every time i speak about this i'll make sure represent all the family members who were denied the opportunity
Philadelphia Phillies Legend Dick Allen Dies At 78
"Tony i wanna see a few words about the passing of dick allen. One of my favorite players as a teenager philadelphia phillies richie allen. But he wanted. Mvp on the south side in one thousand nine hundred seventy two plan for the white sox and two years later tony. He had what i thought was a but at the time was a fifteen year old kid in attendance. It was split. Check swing down the third base line. One out in the ninth inning against nolan ryan broke up the no hitter. The closest i ever came to seeing a no hitter in person with all the games. But dick allen he was a hell of a player probably didn't get his do then and michael schmidt one of your favorite players know a big defender of dick or richie allen whatever. He was particularly affiliate for mike schmidt. Just a wondrous player michael jackman. He's one of the greatest third baseman of all time.
Breaking Down Tonights NBA Draft: The Players, The Picks, and Virtual Fashion
"Mike schmidts. Thank you for joining me mandy day that you work towards every single year has finally arrived. Yeah i feel like this is our our super bowl and we've been waiting for this forever. I we thought it was going to be in june. And then maybe october and now here in november so you know i think teams and myself are very excited to get this one of the books. Mike schmidts is an nba draft analyst for espn. And he's been traveling the world scouting nba prospects for nearly a decade. I love the nba. draft personally. I went to the draft at the garden. Growing up in new york as a sad knicks fan and i still love the draft. Which tells you something about my own personal pathologies. The weirdness of this draft mike. You said it. This is going to be held in a way that has never been seen before. It's going to be entirely remote adam. Silver the commissioner. Mark tatum the deputy commissioner. They're going to be reading out. Picks live from espn studios in bristol. Where you are right now. So tell me what it's been like for teams and for players to go through this whole draft process in the midst of a global pandemic. It's been very very challenging for teams and players alike from the team side. They're used to having march madness the nba draft. Combine tournaments like portsmouth invitational. Which is where you see. You know a jimmy butler and some of these seniors pop up. They're able to have their individual workouts one on one workouts team workouts. I really have these guys in their building and this pre-draft process that just simply hasn't been the case so think you have teams kind of relying on a lot of these zoom calls right. We've all been kind of zoom jail more or less for the last few months You know they're relying on film. They're relying on intel and then from the players perspective. I think they just want to finally hear their name called. I mean this is the moment that they've been waiting for their entire lives. And so i feel a lot of these kids just having to have this. Push back and push back in push-back. They've each had very different circumstances. I mean some guys are like in the gym working out with nba players. Every day. some are with you know their brother and their cousin and some empty. Jim just one on getting workout. Since so it's been very strange. I guess the thing. I think of when i think about what might be lost in this iteration of the draft like are they going to be suits mike. Are we gonna get like nba draft fashion. That we've been blessed by in the past. Oh we're getting it it's coming it's coming virtually you're not gonna see that same strut the same level of excitement that we generally get in barklays within walking up on the stage but from everything i've seen out on social media everything i've heard. I think the suit game is still going to be strong. Yeah i just want if one of those guys wanna go retro and bring back like the seventeen but in suit. I just wanna make sure. The camera frame contains all seventeen of those budgets. We're gonna do everything we can to get that done. I hope we really really highlight the fashion. Because that that might steal the night to be honest i want to take a deep dive into the top three players in the draft to start here because the three of them. You've been talking about relentlessly for months. Now lamelo ball. James wiseman anthony edwards. They're all still in play for the number one overall pick which belongs of course to the minnesota timberwolves and i want to start with lamelo because we know as the brother lonzo the son of lavar and he chose to play overseas australia instead of going to the college game but for the uninitiated ear. What is lamelo offered to whichever team does end up selecting him tonight. I think he's the best prospect in the draft. Honestly i think if he played at duke kentucky enter any big name college program and he didn't have some of the questions about kind of the circus that has surrounded him at times in his life. I think he would be the runaway number. One pick in terms of his game. I mean he's a big point guard. Six seven close to six foot. Eight is one of the youngest players in the draft. Who was a late bloomer. So i think people remember him as the young you know twelve year old looking kid bomb and half court shots but he's really grown into his frame as great size has the ball on a string as a ball handler. He's incredibly shifty and smooth and his playmaking is ridiculous. The way he sees the game is really really special.
Portland: At least 24 people arrested more than once in protests, riots
"At least 24 people have been arrested more than once in riots in Portland, but they're released back on the street. They're not being charged with crimes, and so they go out and knowing that they're not going to say facing sanction. They are committing those crimes again and remember in Portland Thie individual who shot and killed a thie Antifa member who shot and killed a Trump supporter last weekend. Had been arrested for possession, illegal possession of firearm. Assault on a police officer. Ah, ah, threatening behaviour with intent to incite violence and one other crime. Those are serious crimes, but He was released without prosecution and given his gun back. Yeah, No, I mean the district attorney Mike Schmidt. He's issued a statement that I can't believe that a D a would ever issue, he said quote the protesters. Phillies retire Dick Allen's No. 15 in moving ceremony
"Now before the game started little note and and it's just a good moment for everybody in the Phillies community for the baseball community where Dick Alan gets his his number retired number. 15 was retired before the game. Nice little ceremony. Tom McCarthy was speaking at a podium. John Middleton was there. Mike Schmidt was there. Of course, Dick Allen was there and spoke briefly, So ah, really nice moment have that before the game, And by the way, Dick Allen will get another ceremony next year so he can be in front of fans to get the recognition that way as well. But a nice little thing

Impeachment Hearing Takeaways: Trump request to Ukraine seen as a "demand"
"Started with a whistle blowers complain about President. Trump's contact with a foreign leader had a perfect phone call with the president of Ukraine. Like I mean perfect today. I'm announcing the House of Representatives. Moving forward with an official impeachment inquiry. Good morning everyone. This is the third in a series of public hearings. It'd be holding his part of the house impeachment inquiry. It's Mike Schmidt in the Washington Bureau of the New York Times. Today was another big day of testimony. Testimony AAC coming from four different witnesses split into a morning and afternoon session. Three of these witnesses were actually on the infamous July twenty fifth call between trump and Ukrainian President Alinsky and not surprisingly much to the testimony. Today was about that call. What did these officials think about the call when they heard it? How is it dealt with with? What were the implications of it? Why was it troubling but the latest is that for me? What we really saw today was the Republican Strategy Strategy on display in a way that we hadn't before the best example of this came with how the Republicans treated one of the witnesses? This is in the morning session. The uniform I wear today is that of the United States. Army Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Veneman Vin. Men is the director for European. Repeat Affairs at the National Security Council. He's a career military officer and in his opening statement he describes how his father chose to come to the United States state from the Soviet Union. When my father was forty seven years old he left behind his entire life so his three sons could have a better and safer for lives and the profound sense of duty that instilled in him as a young man? I decided I wanted to spend my life. Serving this nation that gave my family refuge from McCain oppression and he finishes his opening statement by looking straight at the camera and addressing his father Directly Dad. Yeah I'm sitting here today in the. US Capitol talking to our elected professionals is proof that you made the right decision forty years ago to leave the Soviet a union come here to the United States of America. Do not worry I will be fine for telling the truth again for your consideration will be happy to answer your questions. So obviously this is a powerful introduction and immediately set him up as a strong character witness for the Democrats a uniform perform Patriot essentially just trying to do the right thing for his country up. confinment what was your real time reaction to hearing that infamous July twenty fifth call so when Adam Schiff. The committee chairman takes the MIC. He draws on his background in. Ask him what his reaction was. In July twenty fifth call which Vin men had been listening in on it was inappropriate. It was improper for the president to requested to demand an investigation into a political opponent. which vim in characterizes as demand by the president to investigate one of his political rivals? Carl you You've described this as demand. This favor of the president asked Chairman The culture come from the military culture when a senior asks you to do something even if it's play in pleasant it's not to be taken as a request. It's it's to be taken as an order in this case and then it was the Republicans turn to question vitamin and this. He's where we saw this new sharp line of attack from them. I think the ranking member colonel. I want to thank you for your service. Jason sacrificed to our great country. This afternoon your your former boss. Mr Morrison is going to be sitting right where you're sitting. And he's represented Jim Jordan. WHO's sort of been the tip of the spear for the Republicans at these hearings brings up earlier closed door testimony? That been men's boss. Tim Morrison had given Mr Morrison said this. I had concerns about lieutenant. Colonel Kinsman Judgment Jordan says that Morrison as well as Fiona Hill another other National Security Council official had concerns about been men's judgement. So your boss had concerns about your judgment. Your former boss. Dr Hill had concerns about your judgment. Your colleagues had concerns about your judgment. Any idea why they have those impressions. Colonel Yes represented Jordan. I guess I'll start start by the Reading Dr Hill's own words as she she attested to in my last evaluation that was dated inman kind minded deathly responds by taking out his own performance review and reading from what Fiona Hill said about him. Alex is a top one percent military officer and the best army officer. I've worked with in my fifteen years of government service. He's brilliant unflappable. An exercise excellent judgement. So Mr Jordan I would say that I can't say why Mr Morrison question my judgment. Maybe it was a different cultures. There's military so we're seeing here that the Republicans are turning their focus from what the hearing was intended to be about the phone call between trump's events Alinsky to basically fight over who vitamin is his credibility and this has been a talking point of the conservative media. You for weeks here we have A. US National Security official who is advising Ukraine while working inside the White House apparently against the president's interest Republicans in the house or using the exact same rhetoric but now straight to Vince face in the middle of his testimony. The White House began to run with it to the White House. were been men still works. The tweeted out during his questioning. The quote from Morrison. I had concerns about lieutenant. Colonel Vince judgment. And so there's no real surprise here. The hearings are playing out along party lines but the question is how will independent American see this. Who Will they believe? Will they believe this man sitting in his military tur- uniform with the Purple Heart on it talking about a patriotic sense of duty that his father who immigrated to the United States instilled Stilton him or will the American public believe conservatives in the House and the White House and the far-right media. That's sort sorted the question of these

I can't access something the Joe Majel bands like no I'm not doing that's ridiculous I don't think Macklin tech would want that type of manager under him someone who will give them some type of push back I when it comes to when it comes to Mike Schmidt in particular Ali I'll turn it may ask you a question this team is supposed to be on the verge of contention if you were on the verge of contention do you want a matchup someone to manage a team that has no experience. well here's a little experience in the minor leagues but he's not really a players coach. and I think that he'll. put his foot up some people's blood. to you know yeah I know I can kind of a no nonsense the exact opposite of what you're yeah and I I as I understand you're saying Mike I appreciate the call at. I understand the mindset of it I don't but I mean that in my opinion Mike Schmidt would be a just a just now no. that is the one thing that keeps coming up over and over again about you know if they are moved to move on who you want you know I want this guy who's an assist on this team of this crisis does I'm like I pause in a quickly this team was supposed to be a contender this year for now the one car but the division you know possibly get in and see where it goes from there and use it as a building block like two thousand seven that's how a lot of people saw this year. and if you were going to move on from the manager and you want to bring somebody new in. what do you want somebody who has the experience who can just step right in say I've been here before this needs to be adjusted and then we'll move forward with as opposed to all figured out along the way this is my first time but you want someone who's been there before we've been through the bad years already I don't sit there a couple more question mark years were somebody tries to figure it out we're beyond that now and then this blame goes right on the front office as well. warning would have allies on W. I. P. ideal Warren job thank you very much for taking my call love your show is always thanks for I was gonna say what you're talking about Gabe Kapler I was thinking back to when the eagles signed on chip Kelly and I suppose his reputation and his numbers speaking of numbers and statistics this and put the good sales pitch probably end the eagles took chip Kelly which as we know it was a horrible fit and he hasn't done well I suppose since and I don't wish anything bad against Cape Kappler or Macklin pack but I think it comes down to the foot possibly but it it just isn't working and I believe John Middleton is caught in the middle no pun intended yeah I know I mean he's the man who hired these people and what ever wanted to and I can understand the the amount of stress he would be under I mean you're the one that also is the only person who can make this decision to clean house should you choose to and you're the one who hired these people to make these decisions for you that's what their expertise is supposed to be so right you know to make this change I mean it's it's a not it would not only be an admission of fault but I mean it's again you you're always concerned well what if they're your convincing me one more year what if they were right. what do I think that there's there's an issue here with with an exit strategy where you've got quintet accrues been extended his contract and you knew you have you know trouble with you know the hierarchy of the management now should you bring in a manager under contract so I I thank you we may not know it but there may be a delicate you know you know behind the doors negotiating going on where you can book good and you know which gave well in his next venture maybe gave getting hired you know some place and they're waiting for the pieces to fall into place before they make an announcement that the one that is possible but it blows my mind why you would sit here I mean if they've got to return his manager I understand what the harm it would be it is what it look where you fall short in a season with the expectation that the Phillies had arm way in such a way and we we owned and the organization knows how the fan base you know ninety percent the fan base feels about Gabe Kapler why wouldn't you on the very next day say listen gave not returning his manager just to add to it you're basically addressing your fanbase saying we're we're taking care of it were well aware just stand by for the next move we are making a change they have said nothing. my feeling is that the way the Phillies but Charlie Manuel go which kind of upset the fan base may have you know something to do with it that they want to make sure that there they've got the right person for the job without letting him go leaving a void possibly and may be you know it. somebody is you know still trying to make a decision whether they want to come here or not right and yeah you you very and one thanks when you could view I. from that perspective I hope you're right I truly do I mean we're working in the the the Phillies are playing this you know that I mean they are locked up tight at citizens bank park I mean the only information getting out of stuff they're allowing the get out right now. you know and that's what we have to go by and there is it and I know I was talking to. I know how it asking does his show every Saturday morning and I see Howard to all the practices in the games and we shoot the breeze about stuff like this and Howard I know Howard's one who believes that there are changes being made are just waiting for something. concrete that they know what's going to happen before they come out and now it's all these changes but I I I am one who does not believe that I'm going by what I have in front of me and I know on a Friday which is when teams will get information out to kind of hopefully disappear over the weekend. to let something out like we're we're we're changing our pitching coach. that's the news that we're getting leaked out the pitching coach. and then you hear some of the other members of the staff already coming back. how my supposed to how you not supposed to assume that the same managers coming back if you're a. I guess free agent manager managing L. A. N. you're interviewing with the Phillies and they say yeah we love you to be manager but we've already chosen some of your staff for you. are you that you can't change and if I'm someone who is highly sought after missing yeah I'll see you later if nothing else works out maybe I'll give you a call. then I leave or send you believe these guys they want to give me my staff I'm the manager I'll pick my own staff. so hearing that a a is very. it's disheartening how about that Austin Villanova's on W. I. P. also you go to that a scrimmage tonight. I wish I was studying for my for my financial exam for work. slightly more important. well you know I I had on my computer I was gone back and forth and I what I was trying to kind of stay with it is that because you you know you know my my boss. so cases good out yeah I was going back for it but it out. I'm really excited about this team's depth because this is the deepest they've been probably since eighty three when they won last terms of what they have all in but with the but the big thing with with the ability to switch now that stuff and yeah I like the way that they played in terms of in terms of having to wait team go go five out because they really made and beaten Horford go out and defend the perimeter but one thing that that just isn't going to change they are the one that has the changer of the team is going to be what it is gonna be capped what's that Benton's yeah you know and I I love band I I do believe will be shooting at some point this season but the fact that he passed up to open look. that we have that we thought that they had not crawl one in the corner of the baseline but there was nobody between him and the basket and he chose to drive it take it to the hoop rather than just put up an open three I this is and based on what he has said it camp are and you know really taking offense the questions being asked and what we have seen to this point I'm I you know later on the show I'm gonna get the more detail about it awesome but no I I think you're right that sense that when the season begins although the pressure should be on band to when he has the capability when I shot is available to him to take it I don't think he's going to I I think he's going to be the same band Simmons we solve this season and a great defender who can run the offense it may become more of a vocal leader but I don't think he's going to be the guy that puts up even five shots in a game when he's left wide open yeah I mean I I I I spent way too much time pondering what could have been his mentality for why it is you the ball after for corporate being a scrimmage Intel at I thought about it for way too long but I I I I it first of all I understand that the one reason that would make.

"And I used to get Sports Illustrated had high journalistic standards, but this more on Robin Lundberg, come out with these these predictable stupid narratives, self-fulfilling narratives that. Clearly, they're looking for. There's nothing you can do. It's you remember who was it. When McNab came back to Philadelphia, and he got the standing ovation before the game number five will always love you. Now that whole thing it was a love fest. Right. Was he got a standing ovation when he came back? Yeah. Which nobody everybody care. But I thought it was going to be the opposite and some still oh Philadelphia fans booed. Yep. Well, a couple. You know, there's forty five thousand people in the stands there's six people who for whatever reason one, boo. Don't gimme the Philadelphia fans. Wait, wait, wait before you, go to the phones. Let me read you another another author. Okay. With another take on this whole thing. You're killing me. You're killing me. Well, this author you probably are aware of him. His name is Mike Schmidt. Third baseman. Yes. And he wrote a piece for Associated Press before the season in in which he talked about comparing? His career in Philadelphia to what Bryce Harper would be facing coming to Philadelphia and comparing the the city and how it affected him versus how he sees it affecting Bryce Harper. Good idea for a story. It's a very good idea Smits idea or somebody talked him into it. And I thought that I would read that story and I thought Schmidt he did a really good job. But here's again, I'm gonna go right to the I'm going to write to the key part of it. Mike Schmidt writes, Philly is a whole different animal. Even though citizens Bank park has a more friendly environment than the old vet. It's still it's still home to the most knowledgeable and passionate fans in baseball. They care. They want a winner. And they will have your back. If you give them one hundred percent when Bryce Harper hits the field for his opening home game. There will be a warm standing ovation. Well, you got that. Right. And they will thank him for choosing their town much like one of his idols Pete Rose did in nineteen seventy nine braces, the kind of player they love he will interact with them. He will run hard and take the extra base run into walls and play injured. And yes, even hit thirty home runs and drive in one hundred just play hard, and hustle and everything will be fine says Mike Schmidt. I'm Ray I agree with Mike Schmidt. I don't always believe. Sure do here. I think he nailed it. I really do certainly better than the guys you were quoting Robin Lundberg and Zach Rosenblatt. Yes. Correct. Let's get Andy in Hanes sport. And you're on with rain Glen. Yeah. Hi, first of all, let me say how much I enjoy your show. Guys are terrific. Had head and shoulders above all the other programs that I've heard the reason I called was because I can definitively answer the booing question. I was sitting in section one twenty four during the opening game. And yes, I think all six of them were sitting behind me. After he struck out. He was booed and not only that the next time. He struck out the guy behind me jumped up and yelled trade them. He was being facetious. Right. I mean, I'm assuming it was a goof. I have no idea. But I you know, I was listening to Angelo yesterday morning, and they were all denying that anybody booth. And I was sitting there listening to it. I turned person I was with. And I said when they start booing that's how they welcome athletes to Philadelphia. So I don't know if it was facetious or not. But it really was as as we said, it was it was a it was a handful of people for whatever reason you are in a crowd of forty five thousand people, correct? Yeah. It was great. It was great and how was received in his debut. It was it was the crowd was just incredible. Correct. So to focus it on three chuckle heads who were sitting behind you. I'm sorry. You had to have those seats but to focus on that to me. So misses the point of what that day was anybody that was there, you know, they they will carry that memory that opening day crowd was just incredible. But I wanted to make sure that the record was clear that yeah. There was doing and people were were yelling. Deny that anybody. But would I mean, I, you know, you could hear it. But it was it was nothing. Yeah. No. It was it was terrific and very very enjoyable experience night. Yeah. We'll see you down at the ballpark was flyspeck on the ocean. What it was? Yeah. Yeah. There was a there was a pebble dropped into the ocean. Exactly. Right. Let's get hunter in Malvern hunter, you're on with rain land morning. Good morning. Rain glenn. How are you guys? We're good. How are you doing? I'm great listen, one of the main things I love about your show come football season. Is you're stupid football bet. I proposing you guys I like this year. You a stupid baseball bat. What do you think I'm open to the idea? It's not our usual thing. But, you know, Ray nothing along with another steak dinner win or lose, whatever. So I was thinking one of you. Maybe yet the four new players for home runs and the other person would yet Hoskins. Oh, doable. Mike L, and then your choice of days are or Scott King since he's got here Ray each one has four players for home runs. Total home runs at the end of the season. This is not a bad idea. But before we do it, and we could have different stakes. If you like we can bet something different humane as opposed to rabbi in New York strip. Well that to or in your case you say both. Come on. Now. I was modest about it this year. You were. Yeah. So let's let's review the bidding, shall we? So the four new guys would be Harper real Mutoko, cigarette and mccutchen, okay? And the old guys. It'd be Hoskins Franco. We want to go Herrero, and your choice and phase our or Kingery, whichever one you want. Yeah. I guess you gotta go Cesar. If he's if he's starting now. Well, we'll look at the math. And I will I will find out if Ray actually wants to do anything in that regard. But very very creative thinking hundred thank you. I can guarantee you that both Kevin Keenan and Moshe Kravitz are hoping that this bet occurs because what's our usual policy. Our policy is that whoever's on duty both in studio, and in here on remote when the bet goes down get to go on the dinner, right, right? Kevin's nodding furiously because he missed smiling he was any emotions excited. But. Yeah. While Moshe Moshe got to go to heaven got shut out. Right. Kevin took a week off and never got to eat. There you go. Right Meyer Kashdan instead. Yes, he did. And he did on bright Meyer man for little guy that slice of cake that he got for dessert. I don't think you can call. It was awesome. You know, what it's like it's like the old. He was a Bugs Bunny cartoon where they bring his giant layer cake, and they take a big slice out of it. They pushed the slice aside. Seven eighths of the king that cartoon that was bright Meyer dessert, we'll we'll examine this. Okay. You might have to do Cesar an Kingery or split up differently. Because those new guys are going to mow are all potential power hitter. Reactivate exactly right. I think I got the new guys wasn't that the agreement. No, I don't think hunter put either one of us on either side of it. He just kind of threw it out there. And let us decide I will look at it. We'll take it. Well, well, I might take the old guys. We'll see. All right. We'll take a look at that. And we want to hear from you. We've talked a lot about the fills. We talked about the Bryce Harper thing. Boeing and not just general excitement about the season. The eagles acquiring a Jordan Howard the rules changes and coming up raid. Injure went to the movies. There was nudity. We'll hear more about that. I'm guessing that probably wasn't the whole point of it though. No chase. Thanks a lot. You're making me sound like some kind of a pervert or something. Did you enjoy the movie? Yeah. I did as a matter of fact, the nudity. Well, Julianne Moore. How bad can it be? We'll get more of that. With what we're watching eight eight eight seven to.

You mentioned Nolan Ryan he was the first one million dollar a year player. He made one million dollars in nineteen eighty and then it goes to one point four Dave Winfield the following year by Yankees bit yet. Mike Schmidt came back and got it one five one six hundred Spurs win win, which is unlikely because. Two million dollars. It went from three eight two six million in Ninety-one Ninety-two who who is the first six million dollars a year player. Anyway. Ricky, I six million dollar a year player. Nope. Not Ricky ninety two would have been big in styrofoam, three pieces theraflu branch. According to pieces that go over the years, then one that comes in the middle holding title. Sorry won't talk about all the money or the baby during the season. Well, what about like after the game? What about like, you know, there's plenty of time. Like during the season. I don't eat or drink. I wonder who is really, and I we've we've always asked this question who is really lobbying any sort of criticism sayings ion is only dunker because while those are the highlights that we see on Twitter if you've also turned on Duke for longer than that thirty seconds span. What you also see is a guy with unbelievable movement skills who despite being a two hundred eighty pound physical juggernaut somehow manages to have dancer feet and get to the rim almost when he wants you saw that three point shot on display last night as well. Three from three or four from beyond the arc against Wake Forest some on route to a thirty point outing fours on like this guy has a lot to his game. It just happens to all be the parts that are less fun to clip and put on the internet like that part that doesn't have to be a bad thing. Like, he is the most talked-about player in college basketball because of that ability. That's just how it works. But to say that that's all that he's perceived as I don't know anyone with a basketball opinion that would be valuable design on Williamson. I e a basketball Pinon is going to get him paid that really thinks that. Mike schmidt. Mike Schmitz are ESPN NBA draft analyst was on sportscenter and talked about why Zion and everything that we've seen from him through dukes thirteen and one start is already the clear cut number one. There's so much more to his game. He's an outstanding passer is a phenomenal ball. Handler is incredible body control in his motor is unbelievable. He's really a thankless superstar. So when you add all those components to his freakish athleticism. He's the clear cut number one pick right now first and last Michael junior here on ESPN radio presented by progressive insurance. Guests appear on the shell Pennzoil performance line. That's the one thing I think needs to be the reminder here for Zion. Is that no one whose opinion you value is saying the things that you dislike? Now, it may be hard to hear that from the general public or be larded so much for one thing. I mean, LeBron James avoided the dunk contest in the NBA for so long in part because he didn't see the upside to getting in that being labeled. Dunker putting himself in a situation where the world's expected of him in this realm, and he could only really under deliver by our standards zions already over delivered in the standard. He's over over delivered by every metric possible for a guy who came in with Cam, British and RJ Barrett. And we're already looked at as man, we know what you guys are supposed to be one two and three in the draft. So far he has lived up to that. I do enjoy this subplot of everything going on with Duke this season because we all know, Mike, chef so you can be a bit of budget at times we've seen them on the Olympic basketball stage. We've seen him at Duke forty would feels like going on five decades at this point, Mike, chefs get another guy that's not out of the woods vampire, accusations based on how long he is looked the same standing on that Duke sideline, but it sounded a little bit different this year. Here's Mike chef ski talking about his star Zionism complete basketball player. I have confidence in him doing everything. Now, he's a complete player and so efficient claiming to get thirty points on sixteen shots and one was a dunk and any Sharon the ball guys are very unselfish. He served very special player, and I saw someone post this the other day Zion. The by the three sixty dunk that he had in a game. And again all the insanity there and someone posted it and said rightly coach K ten twenty years ago. Probably would have been furious with someone doing that on the court and Duke uniform in a game might chefs these kind of like that guy that's on. You just got done with the divorce and decided to date a twenty five year old like she got a new haircut. He's shown up to work and it convertible. Defending his booth all costs. I appreciate it as someone who enjoys seeing players get a little more power and appreciation for what they bring a program as storied is Duke needs no help selling itself. But when you got on there seems to be even a next level up for these guys. I think we can all knowledge that mean, it's not we're not getting into the pay for play argument. But if you take kind of the bones of that and say, yeah, Duke is certainly a great platform for design is helping the hell out of Duke. You kinda recognizes that and so get some younger hip or close throw future in the track list every once in a while, and they'll try and live his best life right now. With a group of young superstars that are probably gonna take him all the way to a national championship..

Just off of what Johnny bench was talking about with Willie McCovey, right? More phone calls coming up eight seven seven three DP show, Email address DP it, Dan, Patrick dot com. Here's something that an here's a question for you. If I said, what was more surprising Derrick rose drop in fifty last night or Josh Allen in the Buffalo Bills going into Minnesota and beating the Vikings earlier this year. That's where we start with the afternoon drive host for KFI in for twenty five years. Dan Barreiro, Dan, good morning. How are you? I'm doing. Well. It's good to hear your voice. It's been a long time. I kinda thought you guys had forgotten all about me, you know, might whenever there's bad stuff than we always call you. So I am known for that. I am connected to most of the bad things, especially wool timber wolves related. Okay. But what's more surprising Derrick rose drop in fifty last night or the Buffalo Bills beating Minnesota in Minnesota earlier? Oh, I think that's a great question. I think it's the bills. I do. I mean, I I don't I don't even think it's actually close believe it or not because it's still. Still it's still inexplicable. When you look at what else he Allen has done. What else the Buffalo Bills have done? And by the way, as you probably know they didn't just come in here. Bomber Russkoe or something. They destroyed the Vikings here and it took several weeks for this team. I think to sort of you know, kind of recover from that. Let me stay with the timber wolves right now with Jimmy Butler sitting out and the strategy here is it just a coincidence. I mean, he just sat out because he needed to sit out a game or what what is the overall strategy and will it work for Jimmy Butler to get out of town. Well, it all depends on who you want to believe. I mean, we're here's the here's the dilemma we got we got an owner who watched to trade him and feels like they have to trade them. You have a coach. I'm still not convinced is actually try is is doing the due diligence to be creative to come up with the best deal because Tibbs I think gets his security blanket with this owner from the beginning has been getting Jimmy Butler, and the cell was not that you're just gonna get we're gonna trade, Jim. To trade. You know, some our young assets to get Butler. We're going to keep them. These guys go way back they love each other. They worked together, and this is going to be long term. And so I think deep down Tibbs realizes that once he trades Butler. His days may well, be numbered. And she had that that's how dysfunctional this is Dan is it you got an owner. I don't even give it owner and a coach or on the same page for for for very specific reasons and Butler, I will add quickly. I love the the deal. I was all in on it. He's easily their best two way player. But he's lost me on this thing. He's utterly. And completely lost me with the way. He's now basically terrorizing organization. I mean, he's he's here. One day and plays great. The other day, of course against LeBron. And then he sore nobody believes that nobody can can actually say that with a straight face..

Go to start talking about the Phillies could just kept talking about. I even know point would have jumped in and went no comedian Mike, Mike, but if it was the baseball player, what do you betrayed? Any emotion on that either? I mean, be honest, no, he wouldn't have been. It was weird that I have never spoken to Mike Schmidt. I've never seen the man interviewed. I've never known him to show up. It's not like you turn on the TV and it's like tonight with Mike Schmidt, and he comes out there and it's Vilis uniform semi reclusive for an athlete. I did a while ago. Yeah. Now, how long ago and what do you weigh now? If you don't mind, you know, I I was about five hundred in two thousand five. The highest I got was five. Oh two. And then I had the the Nazi surgery that turn your stomach coin purse bypass and lifted hard. Worked out did MA for a year laws wake at two sixty seven and went to a doctor, and he's like, dude, you're so close. You only have to lose thirty five more pounds, and we can do the surgery that takes all your skin off, right? And. What should have been a finish line for me? Sure. But all I heard was I just lost two hundred and thirty five pounds and I have to lose thirty five more pound right. And and then I would fuck and climbed into a fucking candy coma and I've put on about eighty more pounds. So I'm about three fifty now. All right. What's what's that thing that is weird when you know they'll do that thing where somebody weighs five hundred pounds and then they lose that me two hundred pounds and the down to three hundred. And they're like, well, I'm six one. I'm sturdily built. I'm looking to lose another forty five pounds, and that's still put yet fat to seventy to sixty five at sixty. And that fucking body mass index thing needs to be readjusted because Mike, I don't know how tall ER six two six two. It says you should weigh between one sixty seven. Phoned. You can weigh as much as one seventy one, and it's like what defunct speaking of American Samoa someone on to bring that thing over there. There'd be a fucking riot. But as a comedian, there's no, I don't feel like there's there's not. There's not any powers or force. It's like, hey, you got to lose weight that stage gonna take seriously meet in. Yeah. President's focus away from his or her. Responsibilities to the people and a president who was concerned about an ongoing criminal. Investigation is almost inevitably going to do a worse job as president question is, judge capital right, on the law I've looked at the law I really. Can't say those legal opinions does it, really just thinks he's saying we don't. See the, authority we don't I mean I believe that the constitution is clear that the president cannot be subpoenaed, or if he is subpoenaed he has a right to challenge it on the grounds that they have an exhausted all other possibilities that they don't have other. Ways to get, the information there's, a case the case hose. Just one you can find he was a cabinet officer and they said. Way to get the information so the president would at least have that privilege whether he has a complete privilege and therefore. Can't be investigated. At all I really have we. Got to, do more research I mean there's a good. Argument that that's the case other war review articles have said that it does exist as. The law in most countries head of state has immunity until, after he's out of office but other countries who does it so. That that requires more analysis so given the fact that that is judge Kavanagh's opinion and given the Fact that a legal dispute, between President Trump and the special counsel might end up before the. Supreme court would it be useful to have judge Cavanaugh be Justice on No I don't know Brent very well I just know he's a person of very high integrity I was a law, clerk to a federal judge arguing the supreme court and I know that these off the cuff opinions like this when. And I'm not real proud, of, that However I just feel like it's I didn't vote, for them because my thinking is this tacit agreement, going on and major league baseball at the time that they played where no one was, testing seemingly, no one. Were younger, writer, doesn't remember and doesn't have a problem with what they did? But this discussion comes? Up, more often than any hall of fame. Discussion that I've had over the last ten, to fifteen years and there is no. Right, answer to it anymore and that's what troubles me so much all I care about is getting it right and I'm not sure you can do that anymore Tim, cartoon with us on the shell. Pennzoil performance line joining. This conversation Tim just said he thinks that Clemens in bonds will get. Into the hall. Of fame at some point tweet us up on the. One eight hundred flowers dot com Twitter feed at ESPN radio at Rb. MRIs are ads Todd Walker twelve I do want to take you, back Tim to story that you, told this morning on. Sportscenter about when you one time asked Bobby Cox about Chipper. Jones you said hey when did you know you had something when did Bobby cook so he had. Something Chipper jones Well never forget the look on. His face he Bobby Cox, told, me well I knew right away What what did. You, see good, oh that face and I, said, what because, oh, that face that's a baseball players say, I said you can, tell he said yeah veteran players. Managers they tell a from a player's face whether he's a player not Chipper has a, great face I knew right away years, later I asked Buck, Showalter about a player dot Chipper Jones not? In the, class, of Chipper. Jones but I said, buck would. You think, of that, guy, last night. He said oh loved him. Great face square head loved. Him, great city square heads square loved him this is what baseball player this evaluators are real gray Talia their value waiters look for and Bobby Cox. Could see something in Chipper Jones is face and he knew he had. A great player. Right, there and I don't even dispute it. Even though I certainly can't, see, that I am googling Pictures of Jim Thome me right now to take measurements of his head Great And Iraq Square. Head I don't know because this is the guy with thirteen walk off homers nine straight thirty plus Homer, seasons six hundred and twelve. Total, now the interesting thing about him is that he's been described by people who are way smarter than, me As like the enemy of the modern baseball game how would you describe him I would describe him as a throwback player who played. During the contemporary time Jim Thome is a guy that came up at. Todd those became up and he was a kind of a singles hitter field any got a little bigger and stronger and. Guys told him late is minor league and early in his big league career you can pull the ball and you can get a lot of, home runs and six hundred twelve homers later he's in the hall of fame Jim Thome me is one. Of the most. Is one of the best. Guys I've ever met the game forget asking him his, baseball. Roots me Toby he snuck into the cubs dugout lived, outside of, Chicago Nicole. You'll love him and he went up to his home run hero Dave. Kingman it was like five minutes before the game started somehow nine year old Jim Thome me snuck his way into. The cubs dugout to shake Jim did shake. Dave Kingman hand and tell him I'm a whole, lot of. Home runs in the big cleats like you did in Kingman graduation skid but. Again it's going to start any minute you gotta go. Back to stand and he did Kingman had four hundred forty two Tony. Hit six hundred twelve and more walk ups than anyone in history and he did most of this damage for really good. Teams meaning he was hitting in the middle of the order for really good teams for most of his career I wanna know who your favorite, inductees to watch but I don't want you to answer it right now will you stay with us for. Another segment but. Of course exploit its Tim. Kirch.
