"I mean, I mean, you don't have to share everything. Was this the end of your Halloween? You guys keep going. No, I went back to frolic room after. I probably should have just went home, but it's certainly not that big of a difference. I went back to frolic room and showed was showing off my cups that I got from SoFi. I don't know what the hell is wrong with me. I just like, I probably should have just went home, but I went back to probably groom for another hour and then I went home and fell asleep. I really didn't. I didn't have any Halloween spirit. It's actually really hard to follow the games, any other games while you're at a football game, but I mean, I don't know. I guess the Halloween was there was a demon inside me yesterday for 5 hours. That was my album. I love how the hostility to sort of carry over on Twitter because I saw you tweet and you started doing the all caps thing, which is great. And then it goes right after the game. I will really knock you out right now. Hashtag go paths. And I was like, all right, Kyle, feeling himself, that's good. A couple minutes later, can't tell me nothing all caps. I was thinking about checking in with you and seeing like, hey, we okay, what's going on? But the fighting words carried over to Twitter, so I was all about that. I know. I was just everyone was being really nice and nice and gracious and even at the gas station way to get picked up. I don't know. I just this guy had a look about him. I was like, come on, say something. Let's do something here. It's been a while. But nothing happened, so. Wait, you were trying to fight guys? I was trying four hours ago. Is it trying to fight? I was just like, you know, but it sounds like you were. He was hoping somebody would try him. Here are some chargers, guys. Like, just, you know, set it in motion. And honestly, I don't like any of it. And in the moment, even I was like, why am I doing this? Why is it this way, but it just felt really good. It's been a tough season like you said earlier. You know, we could be 7 and one, but we're four and four, and we're, you know, we almost weren't, but we were, because we kick the shit out of the Chargers. Can we just back up to when you said let's maybe get it going? 'cause you're beating yourself up here a little bit, but you're admitting that you loved every minute of it. I don't care about it though. You know what I mean? So did anyone any charges fan look back at you and be like, relax or let's go or do you guys do kind of the staredown? It was a lot of stare downs, but we were keeping it moving, you know? Because once it releases from SoFi, there's just so many people. And a lot of them were patriots fans, so a lot of them were good. I was basically seeking out a lot of the Patriots fans and giving extra hard loud high 5s and then looking at the charges fans around. But then, you know, we were all kind of moving in the same direction. But then when you get to the outskirts and there's people are going to break off into their Uber lines, other people are like, oh, where should we go? There's like a couple restaurants, a couple gas stations. So they took my cigarettes when I went into so 5. You know, you can't bring singers into SoFi. So anyway, that was my first thing. Was like zipping over to some sort of gas station just get started again, but I don't know. It was like, once we stop once everyone was not moving out of way from the stadium, it was like everybody was kind of like doing their own thing. I was like, all right, well, what's going to happen here? But all the charges fans were really gracious and nobody really wanted any problems. Well, I was going to say all 32 stadiums like a way stadiums you could have gone to. The one you're least likely to get into a fight is probably a charger's home game. Correct? They're by way more pass fans there anyway. Yeah, it was probably about 50 50, maybe even a bit more. There was a lot of charter. Still some rams jerseys there that was fun. But I guess my thing was, I hadn't been to a pats game and I've never even been to a pat's home game. But the last time I went to a pats game was they beat the shit out of the jets like almost ten years ago. Maybe like 8 years ago now. And those fans were like, they were still talking shit even though they got beat like 30 by 30 points. So I was just hoping for something like that and nobody was doing anything. Like that. So I just kind of had to bottle it up and go home. So nothing happened. I just didn't like the way I felt and I didn't like the I was watching myself make actions and hating myself for it at the same time. So I might just stay away from pat schemes for a little while. But it was good to watch our guy going to win. Did you or your Nikhil Harry Jersey? I wore a Wes Welker Jersey, actually. And then I brought my buddy at Josh Gordon Jersey to wear 'cause he didn't have a Jersey with him. That's smart..

"Not changing, by the way, the longer, Sean Payton plays with the backup guy, the closer to 500 he's going to get. I mean, I believe that the longer in the league, if everyone could be in a league a thousand years, they'd be 500 at the end. You know what I mean? Don't check too, because it would just even out. You'd go through some bad breaks. You'd have a bad quarterback. You know, so you're not going to outsmart the system and always win with Betty quarterback play. But they're pretty darn interesting the way if they can manage the game, have the defense mix of Vernon paths, be a little unconventional. They can be more successful than a lot of people would be. Hey, good timing on this. One of my favorite players, von Miller is being traded from the Broncos, to the Los Angeles Rams. They will run into each other. Two second day, 2020 draft picks. So that means the rams, this is always the problem for the von Miller part of it. Now he didn't play in the Washington game. Now I wonder if he didn't play in the Washington game because they knew they were going to trade him. So give me your take on this one because it's still a relatively big cap hit, which I think prevented maybe some other teams from being able to get a deal done form, or whatever they think is left of von Miller, but I would think with Aaron Donald that changes totally for whatever you think von Miller still is. Yeah, von Miller's been on my list when I last, I made this last week of the week before when I did a list of possible trades. He was just someone to watch. I was curious about how Denver would be able to tell Vic Fangio, hey, we're going to do something that could undermine your ability to keep your job. That's always a hard thing to do when you're coach cooking for your job, but your GM is new. You know what I mean? Yeah. And I think George Payton is a collaborative general manager. You know what I mean? I don't think he generally wants.

"Were 7 in one last year in games decided by 6 or fewer points and they're like one of three this year. So I think some of that is they're banged up. You know, they probably lost a little bit of their edge, you know, they probably just lost a little bit of firepower there. But some of those fish even out too. No, I think that was going to happen. And here they are, you know, I think that'd be four and four, probably a little better, I think the injuries are a factor. And that Mayfield's injury is a factor in that. But they're in on Baker Mayfield for 18 million next year too. They've picked up the option. So that's probably an affordable good price for them with him, right? I mean, I don't see any reason for them to rush into a huge top of the market deal with you. I mean, I don't want him to go they can have him put it to this way. They could have him for the 18 and franchise them for 30 or 32. And now you've got a quarter back on a two year $25 million grappling deal. It just feels like the agent is always able to play the guy card, meaning, hey, if he's your guy, you have to step up. Like, almost as if this is premium. If you want to live in this nice place, hey, by the way, there's an HOA here. This is just the way it works. You know what I mean? And that's always felt like the rules for the start. If you're telling our client that he's going to be your guy, then this is the price you have to pay. This is the guaranteed money. This is all the comps. These are all the other guys. It feels like, and of all the things that Washington has done horribly as a football franchise. I always respected that they looked at cousins and said, we like you, we don't love you, and we're not going to do this. I actually always thought that was kind of interesting. And that's how I would treat break. I would treat baker that way at this point. Yes, but I think the browns are much more skilled at how they would handle that and not be in the acrimonious way that it was done in Washington. If you watch, if you watch, it's the fans. It's interesting. This is an aside, but like Baker Mayfield, there's newcomer yesterday, senator exactly likes to fancy like he's taking on the very interesting movie, but it's a fancy to say, hey, look, we are all in on baker. I mean, we love him. He's like, yeah, there's a negotiation that's separate from that. And we're hopeful. We're not going to enter into something that's not the best interest of the browns. And we're hopeful. At the same time, I mean, you know, we're evaluating everybody. And the last two years are we haven't gone as far as we wanted in the playoffs and so we're monitoring all of that. You could say that or not or say half of that, but you don't have to say, we don't think he's our guy. You can just keep saying he's our guy. And we hope to have something worked out..

"Stoned the truth is your reaction time. Slow way down. When you're high you not only put yourself in danger but everybody else around you. Stop kidding yourself. If you've been using marijuana in any form do not get behind the wheel if you feel different drive different drive high get a dui paid for by nitsa so lucky we just had mike sando on from the athletic Longtime friend of yours. Apparently i mean you know you go way back on. I'm kidding i'm kidding. But you did. Ask him about dwayne haskins in pittsburgh and i wanted to ask you about dwayne haskins in pittsburgh because he's a fascinating guy to me in you know. There are circumstances where a young guy doesn't work out and it's clear that you have to cut ties for the good of the locker room for the good of a team. Maybe even frankly for the good of a player that was clearly the case last year in washington. I mean we all talked about it on this network when it happened. But you're getting cut a week or two before. A potential must win game to go to the playoffs. You must be doing something really bad but you know as best i can tell i know there was. There was some issues with a female this summer. But nothing nothing with dwayne haskins that it sounds as though i'm just going to say it and and if you have other intel and you could share it that's great but it just sounds as though immaturity and so to me. I was excited when he got another chance with pittsburgh. I thought it was cool spot. I thought we know big ben. We know big. Ben's not going anywhere for at least another year. So what do you make of him. You know yes just you. Just ask mike sando about it so clearly. You must be curious yourself. 'cause i'm i'm intrigued. Talent is there the physical gifts are there and maybe he just needed a reset. And i'm just excited to see what he has in that. Backup role this season and beyond what about you you know. I think that is the thing. I think what we will get out of this a few different things. We look at dwayne haskins pip. Pittsburgh we will see how culture and environment can impact the young player. We also will see what player does and how he responds when you really feels wanted. The environment pittsburgh steelers is warned that they are no nonsense. Heart knows football team and that typically you have to fall on to be. I think as much as we talk about young players and athletes in those things structure matters and so for dwayne haskins. He walks into a very structured environment. He knows exactly what is expected of him and typically guys rise up to the level of expectations. Secondly mike tomlin mack canada. I think is important. The relationships that they have. Mike tomlin obviously took an interest in dwayne haskins matt. Canada is a longtime college coach. He was at maryland when wayne haskins was at ohio state. When you have an affinity for player you have an ability to build a relationship with. Would a player sometimes players respond. I think the reason why the wayne haskins is playing really really well for the pittsburgh steelers. This preseason is because he's in the perfect environment for him. He's in a tight structured environment with people that really have a vested interest in him as a result. He has responded and play the best football that we've seen him play even though it's only preseason well and you know we're just james winston a minute ago and it's not a total apples to apples situation. But yeah that's what i'm saying. Is you know jameis winston. I know we talked about it. And part of it was the system and i know mike sanford is brought up the point..

"Oh i love bet you guys do together with arne and johnny regular listener fox. Moore's radio i. I'm calling her but hey listen. Real quick some. I'm to san my whole life. Poster johnny higgins robert galley all. These guys and i can tell you another workout. So i'm out on the raiders. Go to jon gruden as the move waste of a hundred million dollars. Ten us wasted getting clear mac for picks that have already gone for players. They've already got rid of cleo mac again a second time that so. I'm waiting for jon. Gruden to get fail all over and get new. That i can actually love my team and my home grown up to love so much nico thank you for the call. I want to ask you when you have a one hundred million dollar guaranteed contract. It takes a lot to get on the hot seat. And i don't know that i believe that jon gruden is on the hot seat but like how close are we and we know. The davis family doesn't have you know that generational wealth all that stuff that the the wealth is within the team. Like how close are we to jon. Gruden like starting to feel like some real not like fake internet. Twitter heat like real heat from his bosses and the people that matter with that organization He has a while before there. Because one hundred and guarantee. That's what i'm saying. You have the that regardless so that is a done deal so he has time. I think he's entering year. Four of the deal saw maybe nineteen and twenty three nine hundred twenty one as a as a head coach in thirty one. Nineteen and twenty nine. I think that's what if you just top of your head. That's free nineteen and twenty nine since he he's returned. Nineteen at twenty nine nine hundred twenty nine. Sixty return look since super bowl. He's well under five hundred as a coach. And so i think john gruden's pressure comes from people looking around and wondering is he really a head coach but he won a super bowl and he wanted to. What we tony days players. He got the raiders up in going on and say there were twelve and four his last year rich gannon played at an mvp level. And all of those things but at some point you kind of want to see if the geniuses is.

"The ball threw three picks. He had a terrible game will help them win. Also the defense against A mahomes in the super bowl mahomes held a no points. Newport up mike look at his winds as you go forward as you look at his career and what those defenses did. During the tom brady era the greatest show on turf to ramble or hell to thirteen points golden kemalist. Everybody is true but you know one of the things that i do have done over. the years. And looking at at quarterback says They all win ninety percent of their games when the team doesn't score much. You know what. I mean if you take a look at all the games when everyone's under seventeen points. It's it's alex smith famous grady. Right his if you look though. I did look at games. Where like you know the other team scoring over twenty four twenty five and like the best record was brady. You know so you have to give him some credit to that. He hasn't been able to win those other types of games as well. He just hasn't had to be in those situations as consistently as somebody like drew brees. Who had historically defenses for multiple years probably wasted some of his window and aaron rodgers. Who if it's not the special teams defense. There's something coming up and having having at least a defense. That is never terrible. It's never he's never really been on a team. That had just terrible defense all the time. Ruby rare that really that really does make it harder and and stop you from going all the way. Yeah hey one real quick. We got less than a minute. Just aaron rodgers. What are you expect. He had an unbelievable season at thirty seven last year. Mvp obviously is any chance he can repeat that. Or we're going to get a cut rate. Aaron rogers i think he should be good again. You know. I mean. I think of being in the same offense again. They didn't lose. A bunch of players now is going to go off the rails because he's going to be making general. You're gonna be executive of the year. Making general manager suggestions. I think that has a potential to be distracting. But i think when it comes down to it. He's still got everything and can do it. And i think he's going to be good and probably won't win the mvp because let's face it. That's hard to do. But i think he has really good speed. There's videos of him attempting to block and it's it's it's worse than than you can probably imagine. It's it's bad but it's interesting. Like how many times do we have. People trying to tell us when he was struggling to be a quarterback. Oh it just move them too tight end doubt me. You know that's it. There's a reason you didn't move into tight end reason. He didn't want to move to tight. End is he. Didn't think he could do it. It's really really really difficult really difficult. And and he's he's not particularly big for a tight end at six foot. Two not big. Those guys are mammoth guys. But now it's like all right videos out you you probably got pull the ripcord at some point in the very near future shah. Yeah i do. I do think so from the standpoint of snark good enough you know like you can if you want them to be around and he's a great rah guy and all that to make him an assistant coach give him a coaching job and have them around or whatever but you can't fake the funk you can't do it especially with players you know what i may like players won't respect that if a guy's on the team doug who doesn't deserve to be you know that you've coached. He's not but he's also not on the team right like let's just he's not on the team. He's not the only one who's in camp who's not going to be good enough. You know the how you handle it. I had no problem with him giving him shy. Oh i did. I thought that was a thirty four year. Old trying to play a new position who hadn't been in the league for ten years just wasn't warranted and you could tell me that. Oh well urban meyer. One of his former player. They're probably way more or other guys who were who were played tight. End for urban meyer over the years who were looking for an opportunity to get in the nfl as well and there was no room at the end for those guys. I i have an issue with it. I think it's i've told you this before. There's a white privilege thing out there. I'm not opted shopping. Dick rob gotta you gotta you gotta roster spot with the mets. Who played baseball roster spouse. Did he was on a minor league. Roster daddy didn't deserve they've done nothing but bend over backwards for this guy stop. What does that mean. what does that mean. Wait because i don't. I don't see those opportunities for blind outta here..

"Lawrence or whatever just situationally the quarterback tears are always interesting because the data we have is from last year and one guys get better guys get worse guys get older and we we kind of players around them. We had we we. We have like an ongoing healthy discussion about matt. Stafford with with rob rob is died in the wool. Viewer and i would say kind of fan. Like he's from new york but because of his time spent detroit dude watches every lions game so he a covered every line's game from the start of his career. I mean i've been in albums in detroit for twenty years. And i watched the guy play. Obviously talented has a great arm. I'm not saying he's a bummer. Or anything but the idea that it was all everybody else's fault why they didn't win big games and why they want never wanna division. Were never won a playoff game. I have a hard time buying into that when he just had one of his receiver go in first ballot as a hall of famer. So so i just don't believe that the rams are going to super bowl with matt stafford. Tell me different mike that he has. He's the the you know. He's the next coming. I think he's he's clearly a tier two quarterback right if he was a tier one he would have lifted them up more in detroit a couple of times right and they had three years there that things started. He said ten years is a star where he started. You know kind of more games. They had three years where they were in the top. Half of the league in kind of combined defense special teams performance and they won. You know ten eleven games socio. But they didn't go beyond that right and so clearly we can see. There's some holes with him and it's still fair to say that the organization that's how the mac. I do. Think the tier two quarterback in a great situation can put up the tier one performance. We saw it with matt ryan. And i don't think situations same with the rams but when that ryan had cow shanahan a good offensive line you know good skill He could put together. You know a really nice run. I don't think with stafford truly been in that situation where they've had all the boxes checked right a good offensive line a good scheme Good weapons all at the same time i think if they did have that He might be able to have that type of a year to doesn't mean every year doesn't mean consistently doesn't mean they're going to the super bowl but i think that he has it's fair to say he has been held back but his limitations have why he didn't take them higher. I mean look in the rams guys will tell you they feel like it's not just a box. They checked whatever it was. He was never in a scheme that really allow was was perfectly suited for how he can and wants to play funny. He has hall of fame. Numbers if you talk to people. I mean he does have whole numbers but but again one of the game. It's more about the scheme in which they plan right. You gotta find the right right scheme for the right right quarterback and if you look member of the year they had that darryl bev offense and it took the body of his hands a little bit and it was just a little bit more A little bit more of a balanced approach right play action and stuff. I mean i think he probably had one of his best statistical years if you'd probably look at his yards per attempt and stuff so you probably would see that you expect that to be What would happen with the rams right. Doesn't mean mvp or super bowl. But i would think it'd be a high end of what he's done. Statistically in detroit would be available to him now. I would think the only issue. They lost their starting running. Rams wasserstein running back for the season ever started. We'll see if daryl henderson can run the football but uses for stafford. This is it. We're changing john. The situation like this is the greatest offseason for me. Because wentz was philly okay. We'll go do it in a good organization right. We don't want to hear the excuses detroit. You know stafford. It was destroyed. Okay you go with sean mcvay right. Oh god fewer propped up by mcvay. Okay let's see detroit do. I'm willing to what what what should we expect from tom. Brady and obviously robson noted brady hater brady hater. I'm a realist when it comes to tom. Brady bro you can't hold the guy who's been in one six off. That's all i'm saying. That's all okay. Okay i mean look i throw the word. Hate around but your radiator. It's okay like just go like yeah brady heater. It's fine. i'm or you can't you can't don't don't don't do the reporter you're paying. You're an opinion. Nist you write opinion pieces for for deadspin. Do opinion on radio you to pain on tv reporter. That's not reporting. Saying guys luckiest of all time is reporter. That's hating on the guy. Who's the most accomplished quarterback. He's the most accomplished athlete in the history of modern. Talk ahead mike. No no i get where you're coming from because if you look at You know just like the performance of his defenses. Historically right i mean. It's helped him and so he went into a great situation with the defense and the weapons that said A lot goes into winning it all going all the way. I think that is historically significant to you. Couldn't have just randomly put everyone in tier two on the bucks and they win it all. I think that guy even peyton manning late in his career and he wasn't the same a whole building response to them there. There's there's a standard of accountability and performance that doesn't exist when they're not there and we saw that with tampa bay. You couldn't just said well you know what Matt stafford a good quarterback. he's deployed. they make the point. Thank you might keep talking. Promise match stafford's going to win the punt pass and kick competition or the pro bowl. Tom tom brady wins. The game overrated but and brady almost lost the game in the playoffs. I'm not saying he's perfect. But your team responds to this year. One the true tier one guy. Okay and i think we saw he brings to the table something there that goes beyond the fact that he needs a little bit more of a run game now or you have to have a good defense we we get that but you have to give credit for the other thing. Which is they're not even on the map and they win it all reno complaint twenty years and be with don shula never win. What here's here's here's here's here. I rob i promise. I will give you time. But but here's again it it it it contradicts your argument argument about stafford is he doesn't win. Well i got the guy who wins. He's he's the wolf right. Oh you got the wolf. That's all you need to say the green bay games the perfect embodiment rob. You'll tell me he had three second half turnovers and you're right okay. But but the first drive of the game they get the ball. They marked down the field. They score a touchdown. That's thomas patrick. Edward brady the second and it makes everybody everybody in that sideline going like. Oh we got tom brady. We're good you're playing from a head. He makes the throw at the end the first half an absolute dime and he. But that's a terrible defensive Call cost him his job. That's the other indeed wrong. But tom ninety major flow icon. Pretty made me throw he. You can't play that defense against anybody. I don't like look with yours and yours is wrong but he made he made the read he made the throat made the catch and he gave he gave them when they go in that locker room. They're like we're good. He didn't play good the second half but the defense one on the game and then that hasn't carried dylan's drew brees couldn't roll..

"And you get a better sense of just how good he can be them. I go ahead. I want to ask you one other question. Kyla murray if you remember after the hail murray your member and kingsbury went crazy. Oh yeah you know cuyler and and mahomes can share the mvp every other year. Remember all those comments and obviously that team petered out. Didn't make the playoffs is a big year in your mind for kyle. Murray and where he is. And how do you feel about him. Well kelly was hurt at the end of last year. That was a big. That was a big reason. Is production cut off. I think it's a big. It's a big year for cliff and they've they've they give him plenty of offensive weapons but i don't know if they can stop anybody. I tyler i mean the the ball. He's he's always going to be little. He's always going to have to make plays russell. Wilson ask right where he's going to have to move he's going to have to find unique windows. I'm much more bullish on on cuyler than i am. Maybe on the cardinals the the cardinals issues are you know. What will they commit to run the football. Can they stop. Anybody basically can cliff building another texas tech where they're really fun to watch. They put a really good numbers but did they actually watch football games. I think it's bigger on cliff than it is on cuyler okay. That's fair because you know it's not often you get run out of a place in a college situation and get rewarded a nfl job because you had a cup of coffee and a sweet roll. Which saw mcveigh. So that made him mark. I don't think that's the job at usc. Yeah what do you mean. He wasn't up for any nfl job. You've got run out of texas tech. I mean that that that was that was lobbing because he rubbed elbows and they were going on why he got just rolling today. And let's just go out to young young coaches and with Not that great experience and and go that route. I mean that that it became a flavor of the month the nfl's a copycat league. Not that i know it is. But but it's not because of sean mcveigh. That's not why he got the it would not why he got the job it was. He's played in the league They wanted to they to get calamari. You want to get a guy who fits calorie and he fits murray and look cliffs smart. And he's gonna forever tie his ship to kyla murray because like i'm the guy who knows how to make this guy super successful. The question is can they build an offense around them that a defense. Excuse me around that style of play. And what's what's interesting about. It is is. We've had so many successful college coaches who have worked in the nfl. He was not a crazy successful college coach. Why can't he worked in the again. The success in the excuse me in college. Football is not a does not determine your level of success in aptitude in the nfl game. So if that's the case why does it matter whether or not he was successful in college. It's not that it's just weird. That a guy who was who was run out of a place who wasn't up for any head coaching jobs in the nfl. Who had taken a job at usc right because that was the best that was available to him got rewarded with an nfl job. That's all i think. Well look but if we're fair. They went from who should have an opportunity. If we're fair they went from three. Were three wins. Five wins in his first year. Eight wins last year. There's a reasonable progression. It's very very difficult decision to win in. But we are crushing cliff kingsbury. They're clearly better than they were previously. Can they take the next step right. The hardest steps you're gonna take in the nfl is not being you know Seven and nine to nine. It's can you win. The ten games can win games. Once you won ten games. You solidified yourself you think cliff klingenberg gonna win ten gained with the i do not. I do not know seventeen games. There's a stronger likelihood. Let's let's ask mike sando. Who joins us by the way. The compact gla proves it's not the size of the suv and the fight. It's the size of the fight in the suv. Learn more about the nimble and ready for anything mercedes benz vehicle at mb usa dot com mercedes benz the best or nothing. Mike sando joins us the athletic football gm podcast and the originator of the qb. Tears i i wanna get to other stuff but i he said rob said big year. For for kyle murray. I said i think bigger year for cliff kings. Very but if we're fair to kingsbury took over a terrible team table franchise. They went three more game. Usually when you get a new when you get a head coaching job. I hate to break it to you. Doug usually team is bad. That's what avenue coach i like. I'm gonna pull up the barstool here you know. i'm sorry. I'm just saying like no votes in the cases when you get a job right. It's because things didn't work out with the previous guy. That's all i'm saying so let's not make it like it was really bad. I mean they were really historically bad offensively and they made this move to get of murray which You know has helped him. Obviously i i think that you know who is it. A big year for well if murray doesn't have a big cliff kingsbury is getting blamed for that right if What i mean. So i mean for who has the most at stake. It's clearly the coach. i mean i. I don't think anyone's looking at the coach going. Okay here's the three things we know. Kings does great right. I mean that quarterbacks have to play well and progress any and he has and now if it keeps going they take another step. Everyone's going to be happy if it regresses necessarily means kings breeze out. But but he's the one who's going to feel the heat. Where is where is kylie in your quarterback to your the originator of the quarterback years whereas customer reviews and lake murray came in towards the bottom of the second year. Twelve overall and twelfth sounds great but remember route. This burgers bailed out of the top. Ten breeze and rivers have fallen. So you know. it's it's good. But he's you know right behind. Matt ryan behind justin herbert already. That prescott matt stafford lamar jackson or the guys right ahead of them. So it's it's a good place to be and as long as he keeps going up. Who have out of the new rookie. Quarterback's at the top. Who's the top rookie quarterback coming into this season well. I don't put rookie quarterback from the quarterback tears because so many of the guys. I talked to fifty people in the league head coaches. Gm's coordinator's not all of them studied the guys coming out so it just becomes a guessing game where you know. You're you're trying to project. I'm i'm intrigued by trae lance not just off of what happened tonight but situationally i think I have questions about some of the other places right. I mean we're excited about justin feels but i don't know the chicago gonna handle that. Well you know. I don't know that that's going to be a great spot to be in with everybody under great pressure there and and who knows if they're going to build it right around him. Offensively i feel like lance can go somewhere where they've got a guy. There's not pressure right away. But the guy's been garoppolos gonna eat or be injured or not play the whole year and you can put them in with cow shanahan. Who really i think is pretty good with an offense and knows exactly what they wanna be. There's no there's no grey there with how it's gonna look and that would look like a good situation You know for me. Even if we have higher evaluations on trevor.

"His first year and it wasn't quite as bad. This syria was like the worst turnover. Ray guy but there's a huge shelf. If you look at the averages. I've got a stacked where words of color-coded there's a huge gap between garoppolo Who's the next guy above jones and the and the final two guys in in tier three. Which is dan ryan fitzpatrick. They're almost cheer for so I'd probably but daniels. Joe johnson is right between three and four spry. Reverie belong with the israeli. I mean he's he's a three he hasn't i. Don't know ruben. Using four yet you know that's just because he has played more. You know what you see a guy who the maury plays. The less people like them. We'll see that the other thing that's crazy about this too is like i felt like we were heading into the stretch of really good quarterback depth and we realized too because the way the game is played. Like more guys numbers. Look better than ever before. Then you have to kind of factor in like. Oh wait a minute disguised on for this many yards because it really that big of a deal. It's thirty eight hundred yards that big of a deal. Now if your team's yesterday on was like janus winstons one of eight guys just over five thousand yards rate because playing today and you'll lomax would have six thousand yards so there you go. You know although. I thought the stuff on on tastes. Inverse jamie's made a lot of sense. Like i don't get the taste thing a life of me. I late winston all everyday. Yeah did you get any good funny reaction on that like that. Payton's obsession with the taste hill or know More during last season you know people felt like Over the last years people felt like sean payton. You know maybe arrogantly was gonna prove for the league that he tasted hill. But i was feeling less of that like as you get closer to having to actually decide that declare. That's going to be our offense. When you have winston thank mostly will now feel like it would be stupid to start jason hill. He lose all your tation hill packages right and you got very little chance that he's going to become you know more matter lead you even the playoffs Whereas winston shoot maybe a navy disaster. But you got a chance of it. Not being one. And maybe sean payton can influence that and and structure the offense in ways that a little less risky for him and and see where they go. I still think they're going to be looking for quarterback year. Yeah that's kind of where the starts to to break down again. Which is probably worth me. Updating i mean we used to do it multiple times a year on the radio. Show where you'd be like all right. How many teams are stable. And i remember one point felt like hey there's only only five teams that have a question now and now it feels like it's happening over again but again the the. Nfl eats the position. They eat the position. There's if you don't figure it out within those first two years first round. Pick your done and i thought half the league half the league is set so if you select if you look at the top seventeen and a league okay In that includes rothlisberger cilicia taken out of there. Because he's going to retire at some point. I believe through mayfield is about where they're not looking for a guy. Rents rogers mahomes. Brady wilson watson alan the mark jackson stafford prescott. Herbert matt ryan. And he's the age thing is the only reason murray tannahill borough car. Nothing would surprise. You but may feel russ berger mayfield except for the old guys brought any who could retire anytime. I feel like those guys are all guys their teams for the most chart. One a half unless there's a car surprise agree. Yeah i two car thing you never know. I'd go ahead and then after that we're getting into cousins goff went garoppolo. Daniel jones says patrick darnold winston bridgewater. Newton isn't that totally different. That half the league is all like besides you know unless you're just drafted you're like baiter already have a guy that drafted or those guys aren't the guy right. Yeah i mean the bears. The pats Denver's just hoping bridgewater is is anything that i mean kaz lock is just a turnover machine to so half. The league has the guy. They live Then of the remaining half the league maybe five those teams hope. They have a guy who like they think they might have a guy right and the net leaves ten or twelve teams. That are like you know in some form of trouble maybe or looking no. You're right because i'm going through it along with you here There's probably in that bottom group. There's probably five teams. That are hoping they may have the answer on the roster like you mentioned new england obviously chicago would be the case there. Too sure Gimme gimme a tier four story. That's worth talent to stuff. Maybe i think. I think the one is fascinating because there's a whole lot. There's there's not a whole lot of body of work of playing. And i don't remember people killing him coming out necessarily What what's the truth onto. What's the fair assessment. I feel like the comments. Trended chew negative autumn like the feeling of belcher to negative on it. But i wouldn't want to be running with a betting window and putting anything on either. I sort of like feel like.

"For road quarterbacks and he was number one on that he just lit it up on third and seven ten. I love that stat. I look it really changed in or in the league. How easy it was to be in that situation. But you know what that's going to affect five percent of his production right. It's not going to like expose him as a fraud. It just means when you when you go to denver or you go to kansas city you know maybe you throw a pick on that. Play or take a sack. As opposed to throw a seventy five yard touchdown like he was too fast here. So it's hard. I mean what's your what would be the case against him other than i wanna see more game. That's it that's it. That's say because i mean even the clip that we saw from camp when he throws that bomb to the right corner and then it was a great camera angle to make it look even more repressive. Okay let's Let's get to a few more and feel free to throw anything else. Because the tannahill quote drove me crazy too he ends up thirteenth here Overall he had zero tier one votes but he had a quote said. He's a two for sure he may be verging on a one. I don't know that there's any. Maybe i'm too dilford out here. I don't think there's anyone from the offense side of the football that thanks to hannah. Hells knocking on the door of a one despite the production and the athleticism and the like he checks a lot of those boxes. I don't think anybody thinks that's exactly what he's doing. The offense Kirk cousins long. Been someone that. I've not been a huge fan of You have an amazing staff. He checks in eighteen here because this is such a great observation This is a head coach. Saying quote. I feel like is good games. Come when they're getting the schick out of so check on it. And santo includes this causes led the league last season touchdown passes while trailing by at least ten points he had twelve while ranking third in those situations yards. And that's the other thing is if you want to start. Sorting the sats assert way for kirk cousins. You'll be like wednesay getting into the hall of fame in how. How do you fit his jacket and then you have garoppolo checks in thousand twenty-first who i've never been a fan of i think he's so overrated and i also realized that last year the niners had a million challenges beyond what garoppolo is and then they decided to go ahead and invest in a number three. Pick it a quarterback that people are probably more split on a tray lance than any of the top prospects. And so look i almost. There's not many people are going to say. I respect with the washington. Football team did when they said. Hey we got kirk cousins in here and we don't wanna pay him that much. We know what the going rate is. We don't wanna pay you so we're not going to a we're way that rec- respected at a weird way. You have san francisco. Who's like actually we're gonna spend number three pick on a guy like there are things that tell us when i have doubts about like again. I'm not saying they shouldn't play the position. I'm rambling here. A bit mike but the organizations a lot of times i tell you exactly like confirm or deny how you feel about certain guys and for me. It's a tanna hills. Not in the garoppolo cousins group but when i look at the comments and i look at some of the stuff. You're all cousins is so hard to figure out because you're right you sorted his stats a certain way where you can't believe how well he's done. Compared to other guys yes actually but member also on garoppolo.

"Matt ryan suck and you just go well. I mean how often how often the support part of this when we start to get to. This group of quarterbacks tells more of the story than just the extremes. And i think you do a terrific java pointing that out yeah i do. I think the criticism is correct if he were truly a one. Not just a guy who has one now. He's truly a one. There probably would be a breakthrough season there somewhere. Despite all that right they they had three years in his career where they were good on. Defense released decent on the defense especially in front of the day. One nine ten eleven games But did really advanced Beyond that and so. I love the season for matt. Stafford wentz all these guys who changed teams those narratives. Those for two reasons. Why you haven't done it. Aren't there anymore. You know it's just time we get to actually. How many times in the past and you really get to take trans or a guy from his specific environment maybe carson palmer leaving cincinnati and then seeing what he did with arizona ultimately but i just love stafford going to a different environment so that we can settle some of these things and see how different. Ob for it because gafa somebody to coming off an mvp conversation season. I guess is probably the best way to put it. When they went to the super bowl. You know goff has What was what was his overall. Kazini up nineteenth yet. She so he he's two point. Nine four appropriately tied with went so he got his five own sincere to forty three in tier three and two tier four so it was his what was his best finish. Do not ever in the thing. Yeah yeah let me I have an old time. I'm sorry. I just found it. I think i is it. Twelfth sixteenth to nineteenth is at the best. He's donner was yet. I'm scrolling to right now. I've got this thing for the whole The whole history of quarterback here so okay so so he was. It cut going into two thousand eighteen season. He was thirty eight votes and tier two and he was a two point two seven so he would have been twelfth. Overall is the highest ever been actually been as low as thirty second off of his jeff fisher per season. But he's kinda other than those two outliers twelve thirty two he's been between sixteen and nineteen. Okay all right. So the reason i bring this up because i don't i'm not skipping through some of the other guys still wanna touch on here He had a quote. And i always keep like a collection of a couple of quotes that i think are the worst no fancier source. Love where i like you. You'd be kidding me Quote he may prove he's a two and better than the rams lead on dot dot dot if the rams had them in house this long and they were like we're good after they gave him all the money and they said all the right things they didn't need to pay him as soon as they needed to pay him. They justified it by saying how he carried himself. The press conference after losing the super bowl which was ridiculous of all the patriots super bowls. You know for the people that i talked to being from the area. I'll tell you right. Now is the most confident the pats ever were going into any of them because gough like they're like this is going to be any honestly there. They're the rams defense held them into that game. There was still a chance. There but the power like overwhelmingly confidently like man when you really break down the film here on gough. There's not there's not that much there. I can't believe that. Nfl guys who do this for a living would still try to justify when the franchise again who had him in house was like. We're good and they did it for staffer. It will think of that franchise. Okay.

"You know we'll see lamar. Jackson creeped up. Crept up that line too. You know after winning. Mvp he had more In fact on on. Oh i i just wanna look And see what the mar had coming off of his mvp season. He had sixteen in tijuana thirty one and tier two so You know it's a little bit stronger for allen right now but I th. I think like you were kind of alluding to there's typically four or five guys tier one and there's kind of a rotational guy. Each year that goes into that slot. Remember matt ryan wins the mvp cam. Newton wins the mvp. They don't really go into your one. But there's sort of that first guy at your to make a difference with josh allen. Is he's much earlier in his career. or is earlier in his career. Than maybe those guys were. Maybe there's better. Chances fades. yeah no that makes sense. Because there's there's a reaction like lamar is a perfect example. He's next he's tie with stafford for seventh. Which i'm sure there's all sorts of reaction going like how could stafford be seventh and how could lamar's interest because i feel like guys are way more critical about him privately and i'm talking about nfl. People in is that i talked to that are like i don't know man but then he wins the mvp. He puts up the offense numbers if they did as a team two years ago. And go like there's almost this weird lamar cycle of i was wrong. Feel guilty. I'm going to say is awesome or i was right because i thought he'd be okay but the mvp thing is totally not who he is which is the first line which kinds like look this is probably who is going to be and depending on the playoff outcome which we saw firsthand now twice which again may be a little unfair if feels like the the conversation around. Lamar is all over the place while his play might be the steadiest part of the lamar story. If that makes sense. I think in general people feel like he's top ten quarterback and that's probably where he's going gonna be i think the the the quote unquote negative part is people. Don't really see him realistically Getting better in the pure passing opponent. That sort of is important at a certain point. You know we're in the playoffs or or just to beat the best teams and really become a true one. But i think there's high regard for him most of the harsh criticism of him coming out. wasn't necessarily wrong. People didn't know the ravens were in a absolutely transformed their entire organization to make it work. People thought that he wouldn't work in a in an office. That's the mistake people make was. They didn't think that he would. He would be a star in a traditional way. They have changed absolutely everything that they've got break. Roman calling the offense. They're running thirteen twelve personnel. All the time incredible run packages. They are putting him in the absolute best possible situation which is coaching. that's just really good coaching. I think that he's being coached better than you could have been. You could make lamar jackson not look good by putting them in a different system. That would be harder to do with that mahomes. You could put them in almost anything right. He can look amazing so it has to be tailored a certain way for him and he's tied for seven professional league and on any given day he may be the best player on the field so It is a little bit am not. Everybody fits the descriptions neatly. But i think he fits the high to Description really well. Which is you may have a whole or tunas game but May only handle the pure pass component in doses but has other elements of his game that are so outstanding that he's certainly higher than a tear. Free i right. i mean. that's obvious. I think he's about we should be and there's nothing wrong with that. Everybody in the leaks. Twenty five teams in the late would love to have yeah tier threes. You know i'm not I mean he had eight here three votes. But yeah i think he's tier two but to see him go to season being like as he the seventh best quarterback in the nfl Yet we'll but who have been again. I don't know like back probably put Ahead of him you know. Go ahead go ahead. Yeah so so who. That's above lamar. Would you put lamar over. You know i think off last year. We would put him above josh allen shawn watson. let's just put them off to the side knows but you would charles i. There's no way. I would have headed to sean or russell. Wilson nowhere brady mahomes roger show. He's to me he's exactly where it should be. You could arc's yes. You can make an art if you wanna make an argument back. I mean i think it's a little harder to do that. Hasn't been mvp. The league jack isn't a game plan consideration to the same stance as lamar jackson. is coming off a really bad injury so i think that's fine. Exactly where he's at and maybe stands towards tier one of this year. Maybe he was going that direction last year before he got hurt as it was certainly on his shoulders. Yet dax nine. Here's my question playoff game. Two minutes ago down four got eighty yards. There's no one there's no one who's picking lamar. I'm with you. that's showing. How is the seven higher not being. Well i'm not even. I'm not pushing back on seventh. But i think if any of us we're asking this question you'd go like i think more people in that situation be scared to death because the lamar's limit limitations football which we've seen now but but you might take but let's just. Let's just extend that out. You might take this name guys. Lower you might take derek carr or kirk cousins in that. I definitely wouldn't take cousins. I know what you mean. But you but you know what i mean. There's clearly lesser quarterbacks than lamar. Who might be better than that situation in certain cases but the also might run eighty yards in that situation. He might he might complete. He might complete him. I mean he was led team down the field before. I'm not saying he's i. Just think in that spot because of some of the throwing up. But i'm i'm turning this sounding chen Negative towards lamar here. And i didn't necessarily want to go that way. Yeah let's let's touch on stafford. Because i was actually surprised. He did tie for seventh. But staffer and matt ryan a very similar conversations as you point out The expected points added numbers. It it just. It's kind of funny that a lotta times. Nfl people can be just like your local talk. Show host. Who thinks stafford.

"It's one of my favorite pieces. That comes out every year. Nfl fan if not. It's actually kind of excitement. We have the eighth year now of the qb on. Its mike sando from the athletic and started doing this back at espn. And some i look forward to. So let's do it again. So it's eight years now right. Is this eight year. so it's it's really it's rounding into form okay. So for those. That don't know mike. Polls fifty coaches in evaluators round the nfl. They're five quarterback tiers one through five one being the best and there's a couple things that jump out one is factoring in the dropouts because we get to the tier two guys pretty quickly where i know my reaction. I'm reading wait a minute. That guys like that high. This guy's atop. Tim quarterback and then you go wait a minute like who are you putting ahead of them These are fifty evaluators sue. So it's a good average and when you lose breeze when you lose rivers when you have rothlisberger jumping out at me lachmann gone now for a little while. There's a there's a packet of guys that were always in this this top ten that now we have more invitations out because of kind of the way. It's gone for some of those guys at the top so the tier one. I'll just run through. Its rogers who had fifty votes as a tier. One guys not one single to your to Patrick mahomes fifty votes for tier. One brady actually had nine tier two tier two who votes Russell wilson forty and ten and then the last tier one guys to shawn watson who was kind of all over the place for obvious reasons there. So gimme your reaction is you're pulling guys Because i feel at tier. One should be four or five. Quarterbacks there should be no debate it is kinda funny some other guys get some some grades there this other quarterbacks like why did he get a tier one. Vote but give me kind of sense of the top five. Yeah i mean. I think i think rogers and mahomes we knew would probably be so..

"Traction all conditions always monitored traffic and weather conditions. What's up everybody. A couple of days removed although normal schedule here but it was a weird schedule last week. 'cause he did like for nba draft podcast on the same day. So i wanna touch on a little. The free agency stuff. That started up on monday. I do have a little draft stuff for you. And one of my favorite podcasts of the year. Mike sando from the athletic his. Qb tears. so that'll be the plan for today's life advice at the end. I wanna start with the draft. Not because it's days later but just a reminder and it's a bummer of reminder. I almost did it on draft night. And i decided not to but it's kind of like. Hey here's you new top ten. Pick enjoy it because history tells us recent history especially is. You shouldn't give that excited about it now. I said now for years especially when you look at the back end of the first round like when you train guys expiring contract and you go out you know they wanna i wanna. I think he's good as it gives you a chance to really play. You're gonna play playoff minutes. Is he going to be. Maybe even beyond the florida close a game then give him a pick in the twenties. Who cares because when you look at the drop off of actual real production whatever your your version of a win is as a player draft in the first round There's not a lot of wins in their yasser exceptions. But that's why. I always laugh about all the media members that would worship sam hinkie for stockpiling second rounders. And you just go through those. Have you looked at all those like. It's it's it's a it's actually i think at times a waste of time Because the other thing too is when you have all these picks over and over and over again and we'll see what happens with oklahoma city other teams usually. Don't give you nearly what you think you're going to get For the picks and you wanna start moving them out right start flipping. You're like all right. We have three next year. So we'll move one of them or whatever and it's like actually. I don't want a million rookies on the team. So i've said this now for years again it depends on what your version of value is. But when you start looking at the second half if you pick a rotation guy in the teens somebody that makes it to a second contract. That's a really really big win. So yes they're superstars along the way but it doesn't really happen that often and most every second round pick as flamed out. But let's talk about the top ten. Because that's where the money's supposed to be made that's where you're supposed to be getting somebody who's potentially an all star least definitely getting that second contract and a core of your team your franchise for the next at least seven years right seventy years. Well that's not what's been happening. Let's go back to two thousand fourteen This can seem like a going back a little too far. But i'm doing it for the purposes of players that are still someone in their primes. And i can't start at twenty twenty because that would be a little soon here in this exercise. We're gonna go top ten picks. How many guys are still with their team. This is going to kinda surprised by this. Eight of the top ten picks for two thousand fourteen or already gone and beat marcus smart or the only ones remaining and smart could be on the way up. The two thousand fifteen nine of the top ten picks are are gone from the team where they started their career. I'm not getting creative here by saying of the team that drafted them because we have guys that were drafted by team in the draft. Rights were traded so. I could do that to make it. Look i'm not going to do that. We're going to do like the normal thing here. Who did you start your career with. are you still on. That team is a top ten. Pick so ada. Ten gone fourteen nine of ten gone in two thousand fifteen karl anthony towns the only got it still with two thousand sixteen seven of the ten top ten picks or early gone jalen brown. Jamal murray are the only two that remain. I'll tell you. The third is buddy healed but who knows because it could be eight buddy. Healed is on a different team in sacramento two thousand seventeen. You wanna start playing the name game with this full. It's gone lonzo gone. Josh jackson gone or remarketing gone. Ill aquino wasn't tendered Dennis smith junior gones at collins to your deals san antonio so that's seven of ten players from really three drafts ago Gone two thousand eighteen like this is these. Are reese address again. This one's this one's actually like three years ago not including new draft marvin bagley. Who knows what's up mogambo. Does i mean if he's not gone this year i don't know Wendo carter's early on different team collins. Sexton's rumor they don't wanna pay him. Kevin knox is completely out of the picture so again twenty draft whatever twenty nine thousand eight hundred eighteen draft. It looks like five of those. Ten guys aren't even close to being in the future plans for your teams so it's something to remember. It's happening more often but excited as you may be about the seventy eighth. Pick what it's supposed to be the math on. These have become really bad as well. Let's talk a little free agency The headline part of it. I i would imagine is is chris paul. Hit a four million dollar option. It felt like he was going to opt out for for months Going back to even pre the finals run with it and it was because at thirty eight. Like let's let's see what happens. Opt out and hope to get like three years in the nineties than the headline comes in the ops out for the forty four million dollar option and then signs a four year deal for one hundred twenty million at two. that's gonna take him through to what Forty years old. So yeah thirty six now. She's me Take him through to forty years old. I'll admit that one surprise me based on just conversations about where the landing spot was going to be but this story got a little weird for a couple of different reasons. One server the owner of the sons who let's face it hasn't done a very good job Has always been considered cheap but maybe we give them the benefit of the doubt here. I don't know i mean. He was asked about the tax moving forward by local radio and phoenix. And he said hey. What's going to come with the territory. We wanna bring a championship back to phoenix. We're gonna be paying the tax. I don't think anybody would say like you know what. actually. I don't think i want to pay the tax even though have to worry about these four core guys He was asked about if there was anything that would prevent a sense from keeping policy quote. I don't know. I'm sure there probably is but i think first priority. Try to get him back. But that other pen. His agent and general manager james jones and him and me and all that kind of stuff so i don't know we'll see next week i guess right so it was. There's other quotes in there when you read him six days ago. You're like wait. Is this actually. Could this actually happen. Could sorry say you know what. Why do i need to pay you. Ninety million to one hundred million over three years like you do get hurt a cool my competing with here now. The problem was that people thought there was a chance to knicks. Could get in a play. They're like. Hey chris paul come. Save the franchise a little. Bit correspondent wanna play for the knicks and go backwards with an organization. The new orleans thing. I don't think it was really a realistic landing spot. Even though there was some interest i don't think chris paul lee phoenix. So if you're the owner and you're the one cut the zigal if you don't want to leave like what am i supposed to do. But it's kind of like the quarterback. Math that i always talk about where once you become a star you just like make twenty five million a year at least bouquet. We don't actually think you're better than half the league. But i'm starting now. It's like the kirk cousins deal. It's like i don't really want to pay you this. But i guess this is what we pay you because you play the position in your there every single week so i think that was what was gonna happen with paul. He wasn't going to come back at some weird discount but when it was announced for years one twenty odd miles like man and then guess what happened the lesson with. Nfl contracts is. Let's give twenty four forty eight hours before we start acting like we actually know what the numbers are. It doesn't happen in the nba as much but it appears to have happened with this one. Because the stuff. I was reading and we still don't know yet but the fourth year isn't guaranteed so there's partial guarantees in the third year than it may land kind of exactly where we thought it was going to land opt out three extension somewhere in the nineties night. Meaning ninety million bucks and it could even come in with the averages..
Inside The Russell Wilson-Seahawks Rift
"Years russell. Wilson has been wanting to throw the ball more and at the start of this year. It finally happened russell. Wilson was not good in the first half of the twenty twenty season. He was excellent deep cap touchdown. Seattle you run down there and set in his answer. Any better than that was fourth in yards per attempt. Weeks one through nine i. In passing. touchdown percentage was second in passer rating. Wilson keeps as default talk. He was legit. The best player in the league madden gave him a ninety nine overall rating during the season because he was cooking notion as he throws an accident. Edi feeds defensive player of the years like russell. Lula's legitimately the best guy in football games of the season then week nine arrived and they had this game against the buffalo bills that you recently wrote about. Can you tell us what happened in that game. And afterwards what happened is russell had to cook in the kitchen. Just kind of just caught on. Fire his paycheck wine with a sack at a takeaway from russell wilson. I actually watched that game with a former cr defensive and cliff april and teased talking me through it. And he's like russ's off he's trying to do too much and i think turned it over like four times. He threw a pick on the goal. Line throws for the jordan with tyco. I think that really turned the tables for the whole team. After that loss where they gave up forty four points and turned it over a bazillion times and got embarrassed in buffalo. Well what i would tell you that. I don't recognize that game. We haven't seen the look like that and it's a game that i don't have any place in my brain for. He told us he didn't even have any space in his brain for that game. That's very important subjects right like the fact that he considered that not seahawks. Football was influential the rest of the year. Well the following week against the rams things. I guess only got worse. Wilson throws and the other one four darius williams second game. I know that there are better days ahead. I'll use a baseball now but sometimes you go up to the plate you know and you don't have your way today mike. You and our colleagues. Mike sando jason jank's wrote about a meeting. That happened shortly after that loss to the rams can you take us inside that meeting room and just explain what went down russia's meeting with the coaches normal game planning type of meeting and he has suggestions he is giving input usually does and his suggestions just weren't dismissed. There were dismissed in a way that russell didn't feel appreciate it. And i think that is really important. I'm sure they disagree in every meeting ever but in this particular instance rust belt that he was not being appreciated so rushed stormed out was basically this idea that. How dare anyone in this building. Be dismissive of my ideas. I am of the quarterback was almost like kevin durant warriors when he was like no way up. I'm kevin durant russell wilson and he rustled perceives him to be someone who has succeeded. In spite of what's been around him not because of running for his life making the pro bowl with battle lines perceive that to be like the story of his career. And you get to week eleven. And it's like do. Just chill out. We got this no. You don't don't get it. I got it and that forced him out the door. Russell in the second half of the season was which is not himself like he was twenty eighth in yards per attempt in his final eight games he was sixteenth. In a touchdown percentage nineteenth in passer rating. These are bad numbers. These are not just like below average twenty nine yards per attempt man that was lower than the cincinnati bengals. Even when the circumstances are bad around russell he's been good enough to elevate situation still played inefficient level and twenty twenty was the first time it was like. Wow he's not able to elevate the lack of talent or execution of preparation around him and it produced like some of the worst numbers of his career certainly produced the worst playoff game of his career against the rams in the wild round sitting meeting big. Who's going into other sack four sacks two takeaways the interception return for the touchdown and floyd now all right. Let's fast forward a few weeks to the super bowl. The seahawks have been knocked out by the rams in the wildcard round and russell. Wilson is at super bowl. Fifty five in tampa bay sitting with none other than commissioner. Roger goodell mike. Tell us what you found in your reporting about russell. Wilson's experience at the super bowl. You know it's really interesting. Because i tweeted during the super bowl. That antonio brown caught a touchdown from tom brady in front of russell. Wilson there is the pass for the touchdown. What drive a super bowl. Winning drive that brady's only done throughout his whole career. I kind of just said it like star cast the as a joke. Not really thinking about how russell fell and then as our reporting i was like okay so i i was right like he is really upset. And it's so many factors. There is the fact that tom brady is in. The super bowl is the fact tom. Brady's they're playing pine. A good line is the fact that tom brady is playing in a system. That gives him some atonomy like got to pick players gronk. Antonio brown is the fact that mahomes is there again laying for again in a system that like essentially like his talents. The last time also played in the super bowl loss of tom brady seven years later prime many years. Tom brady's back. I suppose in a soup. Kitchen fuming so during the superbowl. He's texting his quarterback coach. And just close. Friend jake heaps. He's a local radio guy. Here jake to set it on the radio. He's talking about how russ was missed during the game texting him. They'll look the he had was in reflective of the text messages. I was receiving russell wilson. Just ultimately the overall sentiment was that he was mad that he was not lying in this thing and then russell spoke to the shortly after the game show. What's up with our line. You see that. Winning requires a good line and the gist of peace response. As far as i was told is about faith. And just you know we got this. And that just wasn't good enough for us

"Mike Sando of the athletic Offered up. Oh, yeah, I'm just gonna be honest with you. I'm never gonna love you. And I've been really disappointing. Love Sam Amick think he's worth the time. And sandals. Great riddle holds a gun on his work right here. I just I just will bring you know, anyway, you make your decision about subscribing not always want to support jobs will A little disappointed, all right? Santo ordered was great, though. Five trades, he suggested gonna throw him out there. Found you jump in. If you want, we'll we'll talk about it. Now. I should tell you this. The reason I like this article's When I write stuff on CBS sports, I'm gonna write something. Tomorrow night on the Nets. It's my opinions my perspective. I like to have fun with it. It's also almost always based on reporting. And this guy clearly did the same thing I can tell based on the way it's written and the fact he's got sources mixed in with his own speculation. This is a reported thing piece. I love this stuff. Trade number one to show washed into the Jets. So the Shawn Watson and Randall Cobb Would go to the Texans. I used to go to the gents the Jets and the taxi would receive Sam Donald 2021 number two overall pick This year's third round pick. Next year's first round pick from the Jets, the highest of the two. They have to As well as 1/4 round pick next year and their first round 2023. Three first Sam Donald and some other high picks 3rd and 4th. Watson and Cobb and the reporting that sandal puts out there to put this in context. Is that the feeling according to his sources, one exactly that Michael floors so good his job there so Confident that the floor is the offensive coordinator. Metaphors, brother. Is going to be good at what he does it They feel like Sam Donald can be salvaged to some degree, you know, to whatever degree However. However..

"Time for my man. Mike Sando of the athletic does a great job coming football. They give you that straight talk brought to you by straight talk Wireless here on Freddy and Fitz Simmons. Mike, I'm going to start right there with Shawn Watson. And it seems that this divorce is inevitable. Between him and the Houston Texans. What is there anything positive that the tax is conducive to try to right this ship and keep the show on watching in Houston? Sure higher coach that he really wants to be with and have that coach. Publicly. A respectful things of the sun, Watson and play. They're excited to get the program going and really hope you can be a part of it. And the past is the past. You know, I think that makes it really easier. You would change. You know, obviously, it seems to be through all the media reports subject used to be Issued for Tucson Watson in a lot of people there, so if he were to be tracked from it, and they hired whoever it is, he wants to be the head coach, right. Somebody. It doesn't mean that they Follow his direction on it. It wasn't his choice. Political line, right? What if they had a great interview with B And whoever you know someone else would Shawn what I'm really like. And then You know, it would be harder, Wouldn't it? Then be harder for Shawn Watson to just say I'm never playing again. You know what I mean? It would change it. I think a little bit. So what is the problem used to be that a lot of people believe that he's the reason that the Shawn Watson wants out of the Houston Texas are where they are, Mike. Well, you've read the Sports Illustrated's from. It has been two big stories about people in the organization questioning his motives and why he's in the position. He's handed. I think the issue for the Shawn Watson was He was under the impression through the owner of the team that that was going to change, and so then instead, you know, kind of against what it's the direction going on adrenaline. Didn't know you're hiring a GM who has ties to used to be there keeping Easter Me So if I feel like Watson Sees that and feels like you know, it's a It's a violation of the trust and and things are gonna change on and all of the stuff that they've been going through that they attribute. To him, whether it's justified or not. Perception's reality right now, um He's going to continue. Nothing's gonna change. And so Watson probably feels He's in a position of power that other people in the organization or not right, but Number two receiver can't do what he's doing. He's about the only guy who's got 29 million in the bank that he made last year. Have the respect of everyone in the league and a lot of time and, you know, at least for now isn't missing games either, right? He's not really losing anything in the short term, so he's making a gonna put Race, The bottom and Mike sandal from the letter talking NFL with him on Freddy and Fitz Simmons on Freddie Coleman on ESPN Radio, the ESPN app and suits on Channel 80. He's here, thanks to the Goodyear hotline, so we go from off the field on the field. We got our final four in the NFL championship weekend Bubble versus Can sing and C championship game in Green Bay versus Tampa Bay in the NFC championship game. What has it been like Mike to see and Roger's play like this? Because his greatest he's been He's playing on another level this year. Yeah, It's been really good. Great for the character for the week after many of these guys playing great asses long as they can. I think Brady's You know, playing really well. Also, I did a piece on the athletic last week about Aaron Rodgers. Just how much better is receivers are holding on the football, especially about the last After about the second game of the season. Dramatically better from last year. I went through uncharted. Every one of his incompletions lasted this year and they've cut down I mean, they added. Hundreds of yards of efficiency and receiving by by just hold on the football. I know they had a few drops here today in the game, but I think that's been Big change. Remember, before the year Rogers wants weapons, right? And Oh, no, They drafted a quarterback and those weapons have been pretty good. I mean, the Montana has been amazing, but the rest of the guys tell you it's been good. You know Belle. There's Scanlon's made some plays down the field, so I think that's a huge part of it and then the second year system and buy it and they throw it now nine touchdown passes the one yard line, which is You know, the highest number at least 30 years, So it's just all going having fun. They're gonna write him a little bit of, you know, great past game that received the plane. Well, Rogers happened, Find it. It's so good. Meanwhile, you got Drew Brees playing his last game for the Saints. We all and based on what we saw yesterday. He doesn't have anything left. We know is going to try as hard as he can, but that's gonna be it for him. Mike. How much longer? How much are we going to see Tom Brady? Because seems like he's not slowing down at all. No, I was joking. I was like, okay, if the shot lattes and to get traded to Atlanta on then Brady to battle for the next 10 years in the vision bank, he's like like a horror movie villain. But you can't kill, you know, just keeps coming back and you know, really A pretty to him, But I mean, you know, the changing of the rules has really been great for these guys. You know that we used to see sort of, you know now five years ago is back in the day, right? I mean, really, it's different, but So some of the same. I think Rogers was on report this whole year, you know, And some of that, you know, they've got the run game in the play action stuff, But you just don't see these guys couldn't math. You know, and I think that's it started. But your mind there waiting his career he got crushed. I mean guys for the China for hitting him in the next week. Corpus will understand with the crown of the helmet. I mean, they would be concussed, you know, and that guys like they get knocked down like like you're not even Detroit Pistons NBA foul and then look at the rest. Like my personal butler. Let this guy touch me. Yeah, even Johnstown. He's been in the league five minutes. He's looking at the ref like little rough. Can you help me? Oh, great stuff on my man. Mike Sando, The athletic on Freddie Fitzsimmons on Freddie Coleman and ESPN Radio, the ESPN app and Eco challenge, And I'm glad you mentioned it because Patrick Mahomes He got concussed in the game, and it was a legal.

"I just think that their strength plays into Tampa Bay's weakness, but we'll see. It should be a fun one. The less Tom Brady back in the postseason wearing a different uniform. And it'll be in prime time quickly. Mike and Mike Sando, host of the football GM podcast featuring Randy Mueller will go over the games for tomorrow. I think this is the Ravens year. I think they're getting back to the Super Bowl of the A F C your thoughts Ravens overall and also taking on the Titans in Tennessee at one o'clock on Sunday. Well, I'm gonna always hate it when I come on a radio show and somebody stumps me with a question. But guess what Year was the last time the Ravens won a playoff game? Guess how many years? Um, I wouldn't say it's been that way all the time off the top of my head. I'd probably say what three, maybe years. Something like that to the 2014 season, Okay? So I love this game because it's a real narrative center for Lamar Jackson, right, hasn't won a playoff game, They lose another one. I mean, do we have to hear about that all off season? You're right. They've been hot, but Tennessee scares me a little bit. I I'm surprised that Baltimore favorite by as much as they are at Tennessee, when And if he's played a lot of teams stuff, in fact, Tennessee beat the Ravens. In fact, I believe Lamar Jackson averaged about three yards a carry against some 3 to 4 yard. Security didn't do much to hear so Baltimore is better now. No question. I think on paper, you know, should be able to move the ball against Baltimore. But I think Baltimore is going to try to load up on that Tennessee run game and the antenna, skill hits and play actions, too. So That's my probably my favorite game of the weekend. Um disagree uncertainty and like I could see it going Either way, I think both teams have real strength. Some limitations that may or may not be exposed to could expose theater teams limitations, right? Uh, Paul's coming off of last year. Maybe. You know Ravens looking for pay back with more Jackson as you mentioned trying to, uh, that, you know, try to one's first playoff game. That to me is the game of the weekend. I cannot wait to watch it and I'm all in on Baltimore. They've been climbing here the last several weeks getting into the postseason. They've been on fire on. Do you know Jackson been a little bit better through the year? They're extremely well coached. Clearly with hard blonde That's gonna be a fun one. That will be one hell of a midget. I couldn't feel like bread like this whole season was a pressure cooker for Baltimore, and they season kind of went down the tubes early. They could be lost to Kansas City. Everybody kind of buried and they had covert thing. And people thought they were in decline. And I'm with you. I think they've kind of got this second wind kind of quietly without expectation without pressure. It's kind of a different feel for them going in. I'm with you to that extent and usually one that happens as you mentioned perfectly they had, you know, they dealt with all the issues and they were basically left for dead numbers. All right, well, it's not there you let's move on Pittsburgh Buffalo, one of the teams that could potentially make a wrong with Kansas City. And then all of a sudden, Baltimore quietly regroups. They get back into it. I think they're going to be extremely dangerous. How about bears and the scenes any chance the Bears get upset in this game? Well, I've been not buying into them even as they you know, recovered from a really brutal stretch over the middle of the season. I'm not overthinking it. I'm really all over New Orleans in this one. I know the spreads nine, but I just don't think Chicago Uh, has played good defense is with Stravinsky in the lineup there. Travis Keys five and one averaging 32. 0.8 points per game against bottom 10 defense's He's 000 in there against top 10 or so I think it's the top 10 defense for for New Orleans and You know, it really should be back to Earth Time for too risky and Chicago. I would feel more strongly if it was gonna be loud, noisy there, which I guess, Sean Payton said. He's got to speak your plan to get 30,000 people think, but I don't think right Yeah, that's not gonna work. He's you're more focused on the offensive game plan. Last one for you might quickly Cleveland dealing without their head Coach to the cove. It going to Pittsburgh. Take it on the Steelers rematch of last week. Obviously the third time that they've metal Bill different. We've been robbed this burger back in there. Have you see the Browns and Steelers planning? Don't trust Pittsburgh, but I guess I'm gonna lean towards them. You know, I might have leaned towards them anyway. But you take away the play calling head coach for the other team, and I think that's Rob. That's a hard one toe. Overcome. He's a guy who has the feel for Baker Mayfield in game adjustments. All that stuff is a big deal in a game between teams that really know each other, so I'll be really impressed. If Cleveland can pull this thing off. Yeah, I don't know if I'm you know if I'm really gonna be, um, that excited about that matchup, but nonetheless division rival Cleveland back in the postseason. It does stink, though, that they have to go with the news of the fans keep being out with covert. Thanks, Mike. For your time, we appreciate it. Thank you Enjoy the wild card weekend. Mike Sando, host of the football GM podcast featuring Randy Mueller going around the NFL a little bit with him. Sounds like Mike likes most of the favorites. I think I would go most of the dogs.
