"Can we take that? Call their online one man. Is that all right? Looks like they're not there. Looks like I have a problem with the phone system, are you Can I get you 9? 18 Listen, Travis County's new DEA is focused on the mike room. Okay. Mike Ray. Most case that's a top priority for our new Travis County D. A. He had a conversation with cakes and news is Sally Hernandez and asked if he intends to investigate the death of Mike Ramos. Here's that story. Well, it's one of the first cases that we will be taking a look at when I take office in January. My heart continues to break for Mr Obama was his family that they have had to wait so long for justice, And that case will be one of my top priorities. When I assume office in January. We've been clear throughout this campaign that we think that our community Needs to have the power to decide whether a law enforcement officer has engaged in misconduct. Whether a law enforcement officer has broken the law. And so not only will you be taking Mr Obama's his case to the grand jury, but we will be taking all cases of police misconduct to the grand jury said that our community can decide what it sounds like He's already made a decision on this story. Oh, it has he is. You can hear just the tone in his voice that it sounds sounds very personal. Ah, and and it's clear. It's very clear. What's going to happen with this guy will listen. Let's catch everybody up to date. What you mean this guy? You mean the new Okay? Some people listening may not know the microt most story. It was back in April. Mike Ramos and another woman and a woman were sitting in a car at an apartment complex and someone called 901 that lived there at the apartment complex. One of the police come check on these two. They've got a gun and doing drugs and at 1.3911 caller said he's got a gun to her head. That's what the 911 caller said Not the Tada DOD show. No, not news. Ready. Okay, LBJ. That's what the caller said to the 900 operators. So police are going to the scene of a potential aggravated robbery. Or Ah, maybe the kidnapping of a woman or something like that writes right. They get there and they surround the vehicle. You know, Telling Mike to get out of this car doesn't get out. He does get out at one point. And they shooting with a beanbag gun to make him comply. Well, he jumps back in the car and takes off not really at a high rate of speed, but did take off out of the apartment complex. He was not going to follow their commands. And and, and that's when the officers shot and killed Mike Ramos and S O. That's where we are in the story, and Garza says this is a top priority for his for his new D A's office and he's he's he was asked about the re imagining of criminal justice and Travis County. Well, I think voters in Travis County sent a clear and resounding message last night, and they have throughout the course of this year. They expect a criminal justice system that is fair and equal for everyone, regardless of the color of their skin, regardless of how much income they have, regardless of their immigration status, And so that is the criminal justice system that we set out to build one that meets the aspirations of our community. Yeah, So there you guys very clear, very clear. This isn't going to be somebody that is going to make decisions, unbiased decisions, this guy he's got. He's got a course that he's gonna, you know, be on and that's where he's going to stay. It's not going to be. He's not objective. He's not going to be this guy. It's not going to serve us. Well, he is not It is. No. We know what the objective is. Ultimately, bottom line. It is corps. It is going to be. He's anti cop. He's very much anti cop. We can hear it. We could see it wouldn't taste it will smell it. Yeah, he's for all the people. You see that protest in downtown streets. Yeah, he is. Mr Portland. He's Mr Seattle. Is he? No doubt about that has got to go. And this reimagining crap is call it what it issue want to do away with police. And this will he will, he will aggressively worked towards disband. Now that Kas are one with the mandates and Jose Garza one with both of these men actively embrace the the Democrat Socialist of America. They have They tweeted out. Thank you for your support. They are active. They and that's just not me Using mean words to describe them. Those are the words they used to describe themselves. So they fully on embrace this. I think this is like with this. You're going to see more cops leave well or It's further motivation further. Ah reason to take seriously DPS overseeing that that we're it's overseen by the state, so they get what they want, and then they and they get the support that they need that. I think it's further motivation for that. It's another reason to get this done. Jake is in South Austin this morning. Good morning, Jake. Warning, fellas. Hey, just curious. I've been talking to a lot of people in a lot of people back me up on the 25% property text, But then I had somebody jump in. And start getting pretty heated with me and said You're full of B s and you don't know Tom about it's only going to raise 4% and I went back and said, whether it's for 25. We don't need a tax increase when people are Not working and you know, unemployed and all that he was like, Well, it's going to help our blue collar workers know most boring and tunneling companies come from that's going on on face before that going on Facebook back and forth between you and a guy. Yeah, I saw that that threat and Wallace and yeah, it's a 4% increase on your total property taxes. It is definitely and the mayor cannot argue this on the city portion of your property taxes. The city portion of your property taxes will go up 24.6%. That's about that's about $300 more for the average homeowner in Austin and, yeah, in the scheme of things $300 Maurin a year that that does not seem like a whole lot of money. But some of the poorest people in our neighborhoods they will feel it the most and those businesses that own property they're going to be paying thousands of dollars. The bottom line is the real issue with with property that I have is by voting. Yes, it's not a bond package. It's not a one time borrow. We created a whole new taxing entity that is here to stay forever and ever and ever..

"Jackson was killed by police 2013. 17 year old David Joseph 2016, and earlier this year police shot Mike Ramos. Like nothing was really changed in because we were in the streets, but we wasn't like in the seats like a city Council. We wasn't in the seats that like you know the police contract negotiations, Chazz started the Austin Justice Coalition to push for policy change. I just thought this need to pivot To the actual places would change could occur. One of the first things that Chazz another young leaders in the group wanted was better oversight of officers caught abusing people. That meant changing the city's contract with the police union. We found out very quickly that the police contract had all the do's and don'ts of police oversight in their contract. And we was like that makes no sense, like the police can't tell the police oversight person how to oversee them. We've found out that it was very hard to hold officers accountable. So you know, we engaged in a fight. A lot of people didn't think we were gonna win. Hell, I don't even think he's going. I think still to this day it was like one of the first. In a few moments where activist groups and advocates have fought against please union actually won. Chazz says that win helped convince elected officials in Austin. The police reform was possible the police when you were saying, you know, if you don't help us with this contract will make sure you don't get elected. And elected officials took a chance and they all kept their jobs and I think they were able to see Oh, we can actually tell the police know and like everything is going to be fine. It was like a Elliot. For like the defund fight that we just had a couple of weeks ago by alley oop, Chazz means that if activists hadn't pushed to re negotiate Austin's police contract in 2018 There wouldn't have been the Mo mentum or the political capital to defund the city's police department.

"So, um, let's not forget What's the news worldwide and HPD Awesome Police apartment caught live, They literally caught I, I guess getting looking officers military type said in third Ward looking officers shooting these protesters with being back in the head. Direct contact. Those are not the type of police officers that we want our needs. That's why the focus was on the front of the police. Not the front of the police is Forest community neighborhood police officer. You know those types in cities we gotta keep Like the seals, officers and actions, But let's not forget why we're in this position. Hey, Here's what I suggest. Why are we in this position? Because the news caught them directly shooting protect protesters in the head with being bags directly. There was no it was long. That was very tragic. It shouldn't have happened. The police you spoke out against that. I think you're wrong. We're here where we are because of hands up. Don't shoot. That's why we're here. Wei need do now fix the focus. We need to focus on you know, far as the front of the police. I understand what What we need to do is focus on the Linnaeus law putting a swan if we remember Black and light off, so we don't see that anymore. And what's the last time we've seen a black or white officer and age? And also will you see the two white officers rolling around if you see maybe the two black office but we need to have a type setting where we're mixing our officers. We can't put a Ah little white guys from less like in and on the Eastside of Austin or the or the Northeast side of Awesome. He's not used to that. But we have to blend in. We have to start with recruiting. And we have. We have to drop our Our recruitment because you haven't that officer from he's never been in that type of stuff. He's going. He's going to react when he knows he's well scared. I'll be honest with you. I'm not going to do that. You have to have a fashion. That type of entity. You can't put a neighborhood police officer in a crash. You can't put a crashed our party or, you know, in N P O c. You gotta have an officer Who wants that that MPO that many officers not going to shoot anybody. And directly in the head or accidentally doing it's these rogue officers. That awesome police department. Then why in the Austin police, But why did the city of Boston eliminate those community police officers in this cut? Because they would rather go to AA the aggressive type lost. That's why Austin the City Council would Yes, That's why you see the the Austin City Council wants more aggressive officer. I know you don't make any sense now. Now I'm with you. I'm with you about it. I'm with you on some reform. I have no problem with reform. I have no problem with better training. I want good police officers to rat out the bad police officers. I'm with you on all of that. But how do you? How do you have you? How do you find them? Well, here's what you don't know. Here's what, you don't do. You don't you don't do what is happening right now with the City Council and just totally totally punished all police officers. It's the wrong way to go. No, no, that's a blanket thing. I don't want to be blamed for everything that what people do, and I don't want to blame. You know, the random black guy for everything that black people do. We have to judge people based on individual. But, however, here comes the however right? You want to judge all police officers the same way, And that's just not fair. That's not how you get a safe community. I'm not doing that. But let me ask you this here. It sounds like Mike Ramos Mike Ramos situation. What What human being is training. I don't know what you're doing now. What Cause officers have I had to guess I guarantee he was white. That helps the conversation doesn't taken a ar 15 and just open up. Well trained him that way. Austin police did not. He may be scared, my Cuomo, have you seen the videos are have you seen the video on that officer showing up at your doorstep? Criminal mischief, typesetting. He's not gonna want you're not being fair, man. You know you're not being fair in the conversation. This is you know, you're not. You're being too go back later. Been a little bit inflammatory and you're leaving out very important details. What you're doing is insulting for some reason. You know, I'm not just saying that all White office But, you know majority of these. These shootings that all are it's the white officer. That's why we have to go back to training. What we need to do. I want to see a mandatory Asian black women. Black women. You have to have a equally in these academies of not don't start academy. Don't go in there with 95 statewide officers. We already know what's going to happen. You do realize that the next today class was the most diverting diverse class that we've ever had, and it's been cancelled. Thank you, Matthew. Don't hang up on what we're doing on second. I just got a message from King Cassidy of the the Austin Police Association. The union he wants to call in. If he's listening, Yeah, feel free to call in a tea time. 51283605 90 waits on the nine o'clock hour Can I know you're listening? We're up against the clock here, Mike Ray Most A lot of people don't know the whole story and that caller there was tryingto. One city winning a lot of things that, you know, just not ready to come meet me. Just not really. I mean that vehicle from what I saw in the video could have been used as a weapon. That's what the police officers stay on the scene. I'm not trying to defend the cops in this. I'm just trying to tell you that there's morte to the story. Then just pulling in a r 15 and just guns. A blazing is not the way has described him on. I can't remember. It wasn't Matthew just called. You're not doing anything to help recruit good police officers. Are you with that kind of language? That kind of conversation now and that would anybody want to apply for the job star in this city? I think Matthew was a little bit anti cop and by wass, and that's fine. That's fine. That's okay. He's welcome to call any time. But you're You know, you've got to put out the right facts, man until the whole story. There's more to that. Listen, those cops had to get out out of the way of that car as it was playing. So it was. It was a concerned citizen, Matthew that called and begged for help. There's a man in a car and a woman and he's got a gun to her head. It was a citizen that called concerned about the woman that was in the car with Mike Ramos. That's when the cops got there and as the cars leaving with that woman in the car, what kind of situation? Do we have A kidnapping in the making. But consumers want that car. Why is he driving that car straight towards those office? Lots of consider a lot to consider. It's not black and white, but I think it is in Matthew's world. Matthew lives in a black and white world and white has done him wrong. His whole life. He is where he is. He thinks in his head. He is where he is in life because of a white man. Now that you come on 512836059 What time you want to take a break Elicit. Can you tell me my head's alright? 55 30 squeezing another calling. We get time to do them. I'm here, man. You know, Matthew in Cedar Park on the tide of Don show this morning By Matthew. Good morning, Matthew. Good morning. Thanks for taking my call. You had mentioned the arrest happened this weekend because of the protests for Jacob Blake here in Austin. And I wanted to talk on that. Sure. Yes, sir. So so the majority of those arrests they're the people that they're getting arrested or from a group called the Micro almost Brigade. And if if you do any, any research on like, going to their social media, they'll talk about their comrades that get arrested. They show up to these. These protests wearing already carrying hammer and sickle banners, they all the cops there. Class traders. They say that the proletariat is rising up against the bourgeoisie, and it's just straight Marxism and I think a lot of people need to have the context. Had a lot of these protests, not just here in Austin but nationwide. That the you know you'd be hard pressed to find somebody that that disagrees that black life matters. Obviously, that's a given, of course, Black people's lives matter. But these racial grievances that exists in our country are being hijacked by Marxist organization no doubt. So there there there trying to foment unrest because they think that it will create a circumstance where it's easier for them to push whatever theywant their agenda. Try to radically change the government. What? I've also learned about this Mike Ramos Brigade. It's not even affiliated with the Mike Ramos family. Mike Ramos is mother has requested them to not use his name. So it's pretty interesting that this this brigade you're talking about his I'll be honest there affiliated and very closely tied to Ah City Councilman Greg Cus are it's his people. I'll say it again. You might not be able to say it, but I'll say I'm just curious. Are you a police officer? Oye. Okay. All right. I understand how bad was it this weekend? Fortunately, I did not work this weekend, right, right. So I can't comment on the specifics of this weekend. I was down there for the shooting last week, and that was interesting. Pretty crazy, huh? Have you have you been injured? No, no, I have not been injured. Good, good, But you know your fellow officers that have I mean, you've seen some of this some of this stuff on fault. We're talking about the shooting down their sick like six and brasses. Yeah, I was. I was I was on scene for that one. Curious you had about 60 evacuees, Isa Ring described from like Port Arthur and Beaumont. I believe. What were they doing? What? What were they doing down there? So ah, Lot of the bars on six tree had been closed. But now with the new TV serial regulations allowing bar's open up as a restaurant if they served Some sort of food or like prepackaged food. A lot of the bars on East 63 are now back open, at least maybe half a dozen. So I imagine the evacuees are in town. They don't want to stay in the hotel room. So let's go see what's going on downtown. I believe this happened on was that a Monday night? I know it was a Wednesday night Wednesday night and So normally, that's tonight. We wouldn't even be shutting down Sixth Street on we wouldn't end to stay heavy crowds downtown, but because the bars are open because they had nothing better to do. I'm assuming They just got out there. Who knows? People you know, running their mouths at one another, and there was very little police President's down six tree because it's a Wednesday, you know, And so it just it blew up In this moment. The guy shot was just a innocent bystanders that correct just a homeless woman. She one of the homeless woman yet any protests about the any anybody up in arms about that protest in about that? I don't think so. No, I don't know. I know. I knew this homeless woman very friendly, so always waved at us. Always smiling, You know, not arrested very many times. Maybe once or twice for trespassing. How many? How long? How long? You've been a police officer? Six years in Austin the whole time or the whole time. Yes, sir. Yeah. What's the What's the mood like man? How do you feel out there? Ah, man. Ah! It's not good, um and it's not going to get better any time soon. I agree. Unfortunately, it's it's it's going to get worse before it gets better. Right And that's that's the way the mayor says it. Well, Are you thinking about a career change? Ah, currently? No. I've got a high patients and pain, tolerance. Um, it's still worth it for me. But I mean, I'm only four years until I invested so It. It would be a huge waste of Ah, you know, six years to walk away from four years before I could get invested into the pension system, But I know a lot of officers that once they hit there 10 years they're bouncing..

"And it just really scared me that I would have that on my plate plus a guy because I thought I was already doing what God didn't want me to do, and then to do that and plus move up in his church, like I was scared of my religion more than my love. So moving up in the church without a secret boyfriend, teenage, Nathan tried to not be gay. I started talking to this girl. I met on a Facebook chat group and choose my same age and we connected because both of our moms will her mom just passed. But my mom was just really sick and we're like, oh, sick, moms. We connect with like terminal illnesses. Yay. And then we started chatting and I was like, this girl's perfect. She'd be the perfect beard and she lives out of state. So no physical contact. So I told my friends at high school felt like I had a girlfriend. I showed pictures of her. But of course, the long distance girlfriend doesn't make him straight. I didn't know how. I thought I could just push it away and pretend like it wasn't there unlike covered up. And so I put on the facade of how everyone saw me as this happy smiley, Nathan. Nathan never showed any emotion but happiness. So everyone thought Nathan was great, Nathan spied. And so I just kept that up forever, pushing his feelings away and covering them up, didn't make Nathan straight, either made everything worse on the outside. Nathan appeared to be like every other faithful Mormon boy in his community. And on the inside I felt like trash human, I felt as if me as a person that is Livy was not worth living. I felt as if who I was and who I am. Was basically sentenced to a life of damnation and that I could change if I really wanted to. And that. If I didn't change, I wasn't trying hard enough. And that. I was just a mistake that got accident. We made. Nathan thought about death every day. He struggled with severe anorexia, sometimes eating just two meals a week, and he tried conversion therapy, not inefficiential conversion therapy. He just made up his own. I like force myself to watch straight porn once a week. I sometimes we went to high school parties or like just random parties in like force myself to make out with women or girls. They weren't women yet, and I forced myself to do those two things at least once a week with the making out in twice a week with straight poured. It didn't work. And that was devastating to him because he just wanted to be the person that he thought God wanted him to be. You know, that feeling when you're like running and running and running. Like one thing I'm running through like a pit of sinking sand and nothing's happening, and I'm just stuck. And then on the other hand, when I was with a guy, I literally felt like a jet and I just like zoomed off and it was just like Whitney, Houston, singing all the man that I need. And she's just so love and empowered at Mike Ramos shooting through her house, and she is in love. So that was high school for Nathan messaging with his long distance. Girlfriend watching straight porn making out with girls at parties and just desperately wishing he were straight. And then he graduated high school was over and for a lot of non Mormon closeted kids. This would mean you are free. You're done with high school, go off to college and beer self, but Nathan was a Mormon and he had other responsibilities. So in the Mormon faith. Now men can go on a Mormon mission. While men are required to go on a mission for two years, a Mormon mission is overseen by mission president, and this guy helps the young men in their efforts to spread the word of Mormonism. The boys don't usually drive cars and they've specific uniform. They have conservative suits or white shirtsleeves with a big square name tag and their mission on this mission is to convert people to Mormonism Nathan's mission takes him to the Florida panhandle in southern Alabama, Mississippi. Georgia, it's hot and humid and he's gotta wear a full on suit and ride a bike everywhere. And it's intense in every way the days are highly, highly regimented. Nathan lives with another Mormon elder, which is what they're called. They are each other's companions, which is to say they are roommates who do everything together, like everything all day..
