And now there's been a difference where coaches are taking on more power within the organization. We're picking general managers for those coaches were making decisions based on the coach in the fit with the coach and giving them more power where I think it's now starting to balance out the equilibrium between college coaching and NFL coaching. Before you had to deal with the general manager you to deal with an owner. We're always gonna have to deal with the owner, but you're always gonna have to deal with the border regions and an athletic director. Ah, school president In college football. Now it's balancing out a little bit. If you're going to give me my power in the general manager either works with me or works for me in certain cases. Now, all of a sudden, you've made it a better situation for guys who were in college. Who and maybe think about the pros. If I have a transfer portal you guys were giving up on me too Soon. Now we have more kids in the trance reporter than we actually of usable scholarships. Now that took what a year and a half year and a half to happen. So it's made it easier for them, but they're still less time for those coaches. And if you can't get to the top of the draft because you have less time. I don't know if I don't know if Kyle Shanahan wants that much on his system that much pressure put on his system, and they know that their window with their defense with their personnel, their windows open. Another meeting of old timers between Tom Brady and Drew Brees and Ah, younger one. The A F. C match ups will include the Cleveland Browns for the first time and Lamar Jackson and the Ravens. Yeah, I mean, it's it's all the young guns in the in the A F C. You're gonna have Lamar Jackson and Josh Alan. And then you're gonna have Baker Mayfield. Going up against Patrick Mahomes, who's the best guy in the business right now, so the FC is just full of fresh young legs, and the NFC is A little bit different. They're gonna have Tom Brady and Drew Brees. And then even Aaron Rodgers is in that category. Now what 37 years old Still got still gonna looks like Jared Goff as sort of the younger guy in the NFC side but mostly It's old guys on one side and all the all the young guns on the other side now that no more Yeah. Uh, I'm pretty familiar with for all these years here in Minnesota with the Vikings before he got his head coaching job with the Browns, he gets You know, he test positive for covert 19 so he can't even be with the team to coach them. They can't practice all week. Mike Priefer, who I'm also fairly familiar with because he spent some time here in Minnesota. He's the acting head coach. He's a special teams coach of the Browns. He's the acting head coach last night. They don't have their offensive line coach. They've got Uh, Van Pelt, their offensive coordinator calling place for them at even those two fancy had been the guy calling plays for them all season long and they come in, and they go into the Heinz field last night, Matt and they just take it to the Steelers. They really just Dominated the game from start to finish. The Steelers. Kind of got themselves back in it after falling down 28 to nothing but I don't I don't know about you. It just never really felt like the Browns were ever losing control that football game. Even when the Steelers kind of closed the gap to within 12 still just kind of felt like the Browns, we're gonna be able to hold on and take care of business. They looked from from the action I saw which was about the third and the fourth quarter. They just looked like I mean, Baker Mayfield in that into that running game, the passes out of the backfield. It looked like they could just dump that almost wherever they wanted to. I mean, The Steelers defense look like Swiss cheese towards the end of that game. Yeah, and you know, we've We've talked about the Steelers a lot on this show for last last month and a half really mad. I mean, we were praising them with how well they were playing. They got off to that 11 and I'll start and then just for whatever reason, the wheels just came tumbling off. They have really been able to stop anybody. They've been inconsistent offensively. And Rafa's burger. You look at the final statistics he threw for 500 yards in the game last night, But he also turned the ball over four times with the four picks and really Would put his team behind it behind the eight ball early on, and they could just never really recover. It was just too steep of Ah, too steep of the hill to climb and you gotta you gotta credit the Cleveland Browns old like you, said Baker Mayfield. Was really good. He never seemed to lose control. Of the football game and a lot of times. You know, we talk about the statistics that these quarterbacks tend to put up a lot more. You know, in today's NFL, I mean, all these quarterbacks, they're all putting up big numbers. They're all throwing for a lot of yards are all falling for a lot of touchdowns. Things like that, but a lot of times. Think what separates these guys the great ones, and the really good quarterbacks from the social guys is your ability to dictate the temple of the game and to keep control of the game and command the huddle. Don't turn the ball over, lead your team to victory and take charge. And Baker did that last night. He was he was he was fantastic. So what's going through Aaron Rodgers had then when you see what this Rams defense did do the Seahawks and Russell Wilson without without Aaron, Donald on that offensive line. I mean, that was an incredible performance. Manny. They've got to be Licking their chops going into Green Bay. Well, the Rams after you feeling pretty good, and you know, it's It's so interesting that because this is the same team that lost to the New York Jets about a month ago. Yeah, and we were all sort of like scratching our heads like what happened there, But I think it is a testament to Sean McVeigh. The coaching staff. Their game planning week to week being able to put it put together a strong game plan in Seattle over the weekend and take care of business against Russell Wilson, who's been who's been really good, obviously and DK Metcalf and We saw frustrated DK Metcalf was on the sidelines during that game. And you know, Jalen Ramsey has has been fabulous for them. And you know, even even though they lost Erin Donald for the For the second half of that game on Saturday, it was still just a great performance, shutting down that Seattle offense. And I'm moving on the Green Bay and, you know, it's gonna be a challenge. They're gonna have to take care of take care of things against Aaron Rodgers. And it's not gonna be easy. The weather is gonna be Probably working against them at Lambeau Field. The Packers can run the football really well with Aaron Jones, and obviously they still have number 12 was still Who still really good and probably gonna win the M V P, So it's gonna be an interesting match up, you know? Davante Adams against Jalen Ramsey. That's going to be certainly something to watch. Two. Yeah, that'll be a key matchup. And then, of course, the bills that took care of business against the Colts and They'll probably have. Well, I don't know if they'll have advantage next week. I would assume I don't know the schedule next week ever looked that far ahead. But I would assume the bills will have that cold weather in their pocket next week as well, They might and you know, I was actually surprised to see them. They were allowed to have fans on Saturday's game against the Colts as well. And I would imagine The same thing's gonna happen this Saturday when they take on Lamar Jackson and the Ravens. So we're gonna have some fans in their favorite. They may have the weather in their favorite, too. But You know Baltimore and that defense and Lamar Jackson being able to sort of control things for the Ravens to you know, the Ravens are kind of built to be a team that can play in cold weather. Two with the running game and Jackson just being able to do enough here and there, so that's going to be another intriguing matchup as well. "Categorize myself as a closet Backstreet Boys fan, and then I felt like it was something to be proud of s O. The other thing that you should all know is the schedule for a wild card weekend. By now, you should have it memorized, but I'll run it down. Run it back for you really quick. I try to be cool. Colts at the bill starts things off on Saturday afternoon. That's one o'clock western New York time. 10 a.m. Get up. Get up 10 A.m. on the Pacific while the West Coast, the Pacific Coast, Then you've got the Rams and the Seahawks. Or at least those of you who are on the West Coast to follow those two teams. You will have a couple of hours to wake up. Get some coffee. Shake out the cobwebs. And then the third game of that triple header on Saturday pits Tampa Bay at Washington and that's under the lights at FedEx Field in lend over on Sunday. It's two of the three A F C game's it's and then they sandwich, the Bears and the Saints in the middle. So it's the Colts at the Titans early that it's Chicago and New Orleans. I hope it's not the last game we see Drew Brees. But there is a possibility. We'll talk more about that coming up and then finally Cleveland at Pittsburgh, and we told you Kevin Stefanski he has named Mike Priefer. Who is a special teams coordinator to be the acting head coach on Sunday for this game and has full confidence in him and and so we'll get a little more from coach to face key as we head through the show, but that is Set up for the 18 hours of football this weekend. As long as his legs moving, man. His log is, you know, my faith is with the man upstairs, which is very strong. I'm gonna be out there. So there's there's There was never no doubt in my mind that I wasn't playing. So let's get that out there. I'm full go. They're giving him a little extra rest him all. Adams did not practice Tuesday. He was limited. On Wednesday. He had a shoulder injury that kind of pulled him out of the game early against the Niners in Week 17, but it's an all pro safety. He's super important to what the Seahawks do on defense 9.5 sacks, which was an NFL record for a DB And, of course, is this his first year with Seattle? Buffalo was one of them The ranch for hot early in here. Whatever they've played the Jets and the Giants in Washington. You know some teams that They really should frankly beat up on a little bit, But I think beyond that job tomorrow, Adams has, I think, come back from injury and gotten, you know, into a groove. He's they learned to use him pretty well. Carlos Dunlap with a nice addition, their defensive line. Think value. Wagner and Katie right, have You know, looked pretty good. I think that that should usually go without saying, but I was wondering for a while. If they were sort of nearing the end, I think they've played pretty well. So You know they are better. I think their defense is at least middle of the pack. The question is Where's that brilliant Russell Wilson offense because milk attack defense is fine if you're really good on offense. We've seen them be really good, but not for a while. Now they've been playing better defense is too. So that's some of it. But like Part of me wants to see you. Okay, have a Have a game or Russell Wilson throws 34 Testament against been awhile, but maybe not quite as necessary for him to carry the entire team on his back, either. Now they take all the division rival in the Rams, who Probably will not have Jared golf, though I guess we're not gonna get that confirmation from from their head coach saw McVeigh, but their defense is also exceptionally good and really, really aggressive. And, uh, Russell Wilson had maybe one of the worst games ever in the first, their first meeting against the Rams this year that Seattle lost, I think you know, scored 16 points or something..

But you know, this is a team instant, resilient all year. They've overcome a lot of these covert obstacles throughout the season to get to this point, and they still have a lot of good players. That are gonna be taken the field Sunday night. So you know they're confident despite everything that's happened, and you know how shorthanded they're going to be when they walk in behind field. Jake. What are the rules? First Defense Key on Sunday Because we know you guys met with him over Zoom today. He could be part of all the virtual meetings this week. But what is it about Game day in a two parter there? Offensive coordinator Alex Van Palate. He called some of the plays in preseason. He was training camp You're supposed to in preseason games is that it happened are he is too fancy going to kind of script. This plan, at least, you know. Do the initial game script together. How is that dynamic going toe workout that Van Pelt's going to then carry into Sunday? Hey, Courtney, so defense keep can talk to the team either by phone, or, you know, zoom or video call in the locker room before the game once kickoff begins. You cannot communicate with anybody on the field or the coaching staff. So basically, you know, he can kinda help out, you know, in in in the locker room, and you know he wants to do Pregame speech. He could do something like that, Virtually, but once the game starts, that's it for him, And it's gonna fall on Mike Priefer, the acting head coach for this game, and then Alex and tell those you mentioned he's going to the office of coordinator and I could tell you 40 that initially defense he brought and help in the potentially called play back in, You know, a year ago when he first got the job, and you know, the idea of going into this season was Let's audition him. You know, they didn't have Ah, history really a long history together. So advance who's gonna audition then help calling plays in the season games and training camp and then kind of make a determination whether that was gonna work or not, And then Obviously, the world completely changed in March, the offseason got wiped out preseason games got wiped out and so stiff and he decided to call plays himself. Going forward. But the FBI asking about this today and he said, you've got full confidence that Alex will be able to get the job done Sunday. Yeah, they'll have some scripted plays early, But you know, Vance Allen has had a big hand in a lot of the play calling this shirt even though he's not, you know, the ultimate play caller. In games and I think it's gonna be really interesting to see you know what he's able to do. I will say this, you know, use the quarterbacks coach Ian Baker Mayfield have built up a lot of trust. When we reach out no matter who it is, And so I said to Todd, just reach out to the NFL and tell me Is there any way that Kevin's too fancy? The Browns head coach can be involved in this weekend's game? That's all that's all we wanted to know. I don't think we were poking any bears there Anything that seems like a good question to ask, And we did this one Nick Saban was out. We We just wanted to ask a question so The response Woz. From the NFL. He's coaching. Now It's on Lee. Once the game starts that he cannot participate. It's a long standing policy that has nothing to do with Cove it Why didn't you ask this question about Darrell Bevell in the Lions a couple of weeks ago. The game is played and coached by people at the stadium. He will be able to talk to the coaching staff and players in the locker room virtually until they leave for kickoff. There could be no communication of any kind with the team once the game starts. Through its conclusion. The reason why we didn't ask a couple of weeks ago is nobody cares about Darrell Bevell in the Lions. It's not a playoff game. And what we're trying to do is ask, that's all we want. Just put it be able to put him in a suite, put a headset on him and Have him call placed from there, and they said no to that, so I don't know if they think it's some sort of slippery slope or whatever. But that was the policy that they sort of gave everybody back in August and September. And I think it relates to the whole thing. You know, like how it's not allowed to have cell phones on the sideline and everything else. I think it relates to that They don't want the slippery slope but I think what they probably tell you is we can't just change the rules in January. That's probably where the bevel crack crack came from. I'm guessing we can't just change the rules in January. If we've been doing in a certain way for four months. Yeah, I was just curious of the rule itself. I wasn't saying, boy, you got to change the rule. It's the playoffs because I mean, I certainly understand this, but, um I, You know, it could only happen to the Cleveland Browns, right? If they finally make the playoffs, and then this happens, and I don't What kind of impact do you think this will have on them where you have an all pro offensive guard? And their offensive line has been their strength this year and then you lose the fancy, who's been wonderful with Baker Mayfield this year. I think it's I mean, I think you have a big impact on me to play call or two. That's the other part of it. So now you know Alex Van Pelt, who has been you know a coach in the league for a long time. He got to the coordinator level in Green Day. So you know, it's not like he's new to this. But He hasn't been a full time play caller, so that's going to be an adjustment. You know, That's an adjustment for your quarterback to, um, it Zidek innately. I think definitely has an impact on what you're doing because it stretches. Everybody said, you know, so you're taking away from what Alex Van Pelt would normally be doing. He's got a delegate that does somebody else. How does it affect your defense? Because nobody's You know, you don't have the same person overseeing the whole game and game management were sort of effect. Does it have on your special teams? You know, with Mike Priefer coming over and be in the interim coach, so it's just They're all of these different kind of pieces that one fits into the other prison to the other. And you're I think these staffs are so tightly wound in the way game day operation works. You take the biggest piece out, you have to think would have some sort of effect. This just in the Dolphins have announced that Chan Gailey has resigned as offensive coordinator. I wonder about You know, his play calling are like to, uh Trying to adhere to Chan Gailey. Or was Chan Gailey trying to eat here to to to? Uh um, You know, it felt like the play calling was a little bit different for two and I don't know if that's just that was Chan Gailey's philosophy here. You know, having talked to some coaches who you know, went against them Over the last few weeks, I sense I got was their questions why they weren't going downfield more and that they had been more aggressive with Ryan Fitzpatrick and there and that was something.
