"With your host Garrett says the N.. Jamie oil charges go guys welcome to the podcast genius here with me. He is at lightning underscore round. Of course I am accurate Sistine today just be kind kind of a casual podcast. Jamie and I were at camp yesterday which was Thursday. It was the joint practice against the rams and we're just going to give you an update on what we saw from camp. We're just GONNA get straight into it and I think the big story land from Camp and something that you and I were watching a lot because during that joint practice they had the chargers chargers defense and the rams offense on the far field which we didn't get to see but right in front of us we got to see the rams defense I the chargers offense and something that we were kind of keep an eye on was the chargers offensive line yeah so kind of leading up to that practice. It's my understanding that the team has been basically sticking with Fini as the starting left guard unless he was giving living Mike Pouncey a break at center which means that lamp had basically been relegated forest lamp at basically been relegated to second team duties and the occasional first team snap when they were shifting Phoenix Center but the first thing we noticed was I believe the team had I think it was eight eleven on eleven sessions yesterday if I'm not mistaken and five of them featured forced lamp at left guard not right guard <hes> with Mike Pouncey in Atlanta at center so he start he <music> over five of the eight sessions with the first team offensive line.

"Back five nineteen. Then we're talking about the Broncos new head coach Vic Fangio the Broncos new offensive coordinator, Gary kubiak who is their former head coach and Brandon from Littleton, Scott a question bread. Yeah. Looking at the centers. He said Matt Paradis, you expect him to be back. He's actually coming off that season ending injury. Ryan Jensen, Colorado. Data rates ESE Pueblo signed a four year forty two million dollar deal, but only twenty two guarantees on average attend five. Brandon Linder the Jags. He makes ten three west enrich burden other guy. Nine five Travis Frederick the Cowboys nine four Alex Mack nine Justin. Brit nine Rodney Hudson. Eight nine marquees pouncey eight point eight Mike pouncey his brother both pro bowler, seven and a half. What kind of deal are you bring Paradis back? I mean, listen that. That's none of us have that that information. It's it's going to be they always try to get you for the least amount of money, they possibly can. But the market that you just. Ran down. I mean, I think Matt Paradis. Is considered to be one of the good players at that position. So I mean, you got to factor in he he got a factor in your coming off an injury plagued season. In fact, the last couple of years have been very tough on his body. But I I would say this if you if you got just to play with numbers, and I don't have any idea in terms of the cap, the the numbers in where there were they're going to allocate the money, but if you got Matt Paradis on a four year deal for thirty two million and sixteen. Eighteen of that was guaranteed. I would have to think his adviser would say Mathis pretty good deal. Now again, I say that going in completely blind. Exactly, sure. What some of the other guys will command. But that's you know, that's pretty good money. I think he's a good player and a good guy in the way you described Gary kubiak offense. I think he's a good fit. Yeah. He likes likes guys that can move up front for sure. From the text line from the seven one nine they wanna know, how does case keenum fit in the kubiak softens? I think if cases here, and I suspect he will be I think Gerry will have the feeling that he can get more out of case. I think you'll see more boots. I think you'll see more play pass. You know, you're going to want to establish the running game. I just think Gary feels strongly about case I mean, strongly enough that for the last year of his deal. If John Elway sits down, Gary and says, listen, can we get more out of this guy the one I saw this year? I think Jerry would say, yeah, I think I can. But when you say that Dave I can just see fans in their cargo on. You're not saying case keenum's the future. No next year. I'm saying, right. More than likely you can look at this one or two ways and Kurt. We're gonna come right to you. You can look at this and say, there's one more year of case keenum, you can look at it and say, the Broncos are pretty much stuck with case keenum for one more year or you can look and say the Broncos are completely finished with case keenum, they're going to release him. They're gonna eat dead money in the process, and they're going to go out and acquire. Then you get to fill in the blank is that Joe flacco is that teddy Bridgewater in some sort of deal. I mean to me. Your team has been decimated. There are other areas to build that I would not trade draft capital for and and jeopardize the future. The next two or three years I want to acquire as much draft capital as I can if that means you go through another year with case keenum, well, then I'm going to count on Gary kubiak to make him better than what I saw this year. And then next year, then we go we go take a shot. At who? We think is our franchise quarterback. You wonder if they'll take a look at Bridgewater a young quarterback at one time was the franchise quarterback for the Vikings. I don't know what he would cost, but you might be a guy. It is enormously think he's gonna command big money again. Keep in mind any veteran quarterback you signed to a deal. You also have to factor in what it costs the team to cut case keenum true. So that you got to add that to the deal, but I wonder if he'd be value value kind of signing keenum was, you know, like, they thought keenum was a good value at what they paid, and maybe Bridgewater. You could get him. The same lobby. Maybe maybe it's hard hard to gauge really what they're thinking. My guess would be they'll keep case keenum for one more year, you keep case and Bridgewater. No too much money. Why would you want to commit that much money? One of them's not gonna play. Well, one of them's backup, and they both van backup backup to be a college guy like a third round draft choice. Yeah. Very well happen Kurt. You've gotta question that we have the voice of the Broncos. Dave, logan. Rick Lewis, Kathy Lee. What's up? Hey, guys. Sorry tonight. What kind of what I was gonna ask. I just thought it would be interesting. Maybe reunites Laco with kubiak who seem to have a little more success with flacco that he did with keenum bigger taller guy. Little worse success on his belt than just one year. Gave that earlier, you know, that was I was thinking the same thing and others are also thinking that I think that strictly comes down to the economics of the situation. I mean, and and I do not know what Gary's feelings were having coached. Joe flacco for a year. So that that'll stay that is listening to Brandon show in the show those I mean, the quarterback classic college is really a two years away. So we'll there is more of a two year bridge. I just don't see case being that to your bridge. Will maybe Joe flacco could be with a with his resume. So. Yeah. That you know, what I think that's incurred. Thanks for the call. I think that is a valid point. But again, it gets down to sitting down with the cap just sitting down with all the people that look at the cap and say, here's how much money we have. Here's what we can spend. How do we need to get to that number who do we need to release to get to that number? And if you sign Joe flacco again, he's under contract eighteen twenty and twenty four the next three years if you can work some sort of deal, right? Then you're going to part with case keenum if you could do that. And it's net zero. I think most people would say well, gosh that would make sense, but it's not a net zero. It's there's a guaranteed a case next year of seven million. And if you're releasing there's ten million on the books dead money. So they have to factor all of those things. And before they make a decision Turkey will get a break here.

"Mike pouncey eight years first year the chargers. What do I don't know? It did Mike good CD again. Mike. Do you have kids, Mike? Yes. There are two of. Okay. Let's you tell me. So you got you probably I don't know if your parents were millionaires, but you're a very successful guy. And that you have these kids do they play football. Well, my son plays flag football my daughter. She. Hey sports. He's ultimate girl. Well, my son. He's like me. He's very competitive. They I don't think they understand that we have money because we don't raise them that way. We kind of raising the way I was raised their awesome kids. They love school my son. I can't wait to see what he grows up to be. Because I think he's going to be a heck of athletes. So you don't raise them. So how do you hide? I mean, you live in a nice house. I bet how do you pretend that you don't have any money there? Mike. Well, it's hard. It's hard because they get everything they want. You know, I love my kids. I told him because when I grew up I grow very very poor. And so for me, I when I told myself when I was growing up I wanted when I had kids, and I was going to spoil him give them everything that I wanted as a kid. And so they understand that we have money countable, they get whatever they want. But we're very hard on because we wanted to grow up to be sessile kids to now. It's interesting Mike you played in Miami. Which is a just I'll tell you you played in Miami and LA you've played in fund cities, no Detroit or buffalo for you. You are a grinder. But is it different? I mean, you've got brother brothers teammates Miami. And the chargers in LA. And then you played college football in Florida. It's been a charm life for you. When you heard the chargers wanted you. What was your first thought I told my agent Joel Siegal give me on the first flight out there. I was assigned for I knew the talent that is football team head. I wanted to play with Philip rivers. Melvin Gordon two running backs. Awesome. In this nudist team had a big the best chance to make a run in the playoffs and deuce on the special, especially at this point in my. Career. All I care about is winning games. I want to do something special. I want to be remembered as office lime and all the way to give remembered as by winning you played with Tibo if I recall in college and you want. Yep. So you had one of the iconic college quarterbacks you now play with a guy thinks a hall of Famer Philip rivers. They don't look like the same quarterback. Right. But but different are there's any similarities between Tibo and Phillips perhaps personalities. I think the competitive part of it. How much how competitive they are. When we go out to practice when we were in games. I think they have they both have the competitive nature in them. That's the that's the one and only similarities in their in their games. Because Philip is a guy that gets wrote a ball really really fast. He he understands the game of football. So will and he makes it a pleasure for us as off the line of platform and makes us look good because he gets the ball out his hands. And he puts his in the best situations, go out and be Cecil in place. I heard he's a trash talker. Philip rivers he admitted to me once he's like, I do a little trash talking. Now..

I remember years and years ago, they had the Atkins diet, which was aided T bone steak and fried eggs Novak. Vegetables. No, grains, just eat that. And you'll lose weight. The good news. Is you lost weight? The bad news is you had a heart attack at thirty three. But at least you were skinny I don't buy into like, Andrew dice clay. He was a stick comic hickory victory dog day doing that's not sustainable it gets hot. But eventually not good enough content. Dane, cook, not good enough content. You know, what works in comedy Leno rights jokes? Bill Maher rights jokes. Chris rock's right jokes. Seinfeld. Wrote jokes. They last for forty years. It's good content. That's what works not hickory that. Great Dante, I'm gonna make rhymes with vulgarity that doesn't last. So when I look at Lamar Jackson with the Baltimore Ravens, by the way. I'm all in. I think it's fun. I'm in the interesting business. He's way more interesting than Joe flacco, he's fun to watch. But I keep going back to this. He six two two nine he skinny Michael Vick said yesterday quarterbacks we're not used to getting hit all the time. It shakes up a little bit. I'm not saying that should deter Lamar scare him. I'm just saying proceed with caution. I've seen RG three Vince young Vic, Tim Tibo. I've seen him run around. And I'm seeing all the media fall in love with him. But I always go back to sustainability bitcoin is not sustainable, not a single centralized Bank in the world recognized bitcoin now, I'm not saying you can't get rich on it. If you hit the timing. Right. Apple Google Facebook. Berkshire Hathaway, okay. Those are sustainable stocks. Hickory decorate doc, nursery rhymes, and swearing is not sustainable for thirty years. Segues the wildcat offense the run-and-shoot. So I've always been interested. Like, I'm in on him. I think he's fun to watch. I like Lamar Jackson. But Michael Vick started talking about him yesterday. And he was on our show, and I'm just somebody that believes when you buy into something how long is it gonna last because I there's a lot of things I've seen in my life people fall for those scooters those segues Andrew dice clay, the Atkins diet. I see him fall for bitcoin the wildcat offense, and Tim Tibo and the world all my this is the future. No, the future of NFL quarterback is guys that can throw the ball accurately from the pocket and in two thousand eighteen I like him to have a little mobility. I like Carson Wentz. I like, Andrew luck. I. Like to shown Watson, I I like to run around a little bit. But Michael Vick talked about Lamar it. It's funny because he's talking about sterling I east fun. But is it is it is it a fad diet? Six foot two two nine guy skinny guy running around the field. Here's Michael Vick. I think the most I've run was fifteen times in a football game. That's it. Yeah. I never ran for maybe in the three in the two game Spain closer twenty-seven carries..

"If they get their, absolutely. And here's why. Bringing them. Mike pouncey has changed this offense of line. And he he is brought stability both of these two guards. And you, and you know, what Scofield from his years in Denver. Yeah. He's playing the best football. He's ever played. But he's played every down the left tackle rush. Loco, you know, him to use a Bronco the very good player. But they've had great stability other than the right tackle. They've they've switched heavy and Barksdale out a little bit. Because of the he got hurt Barksdale got hurt in the first game. Then he's trying to win his job back, but they're both playing okay starts there. Philip has played more consistently than I've seen ever in his career. Melvin Gordon to me is the second best all around back to Todd Gurley that I've seen in person this year. He gets it done, and he has grown because I wasn't a Melvin Gordon guy. Not earlier. No, no. But he's now he's running inside. He's run outside. He's learned blitz pickup. He's actually blocking people trying is better. But he's becoming more of a complete back Derwin, James. I believe a lot like what the Rams did with Mark Barron when he came out of Alabama and and went, and he's this is almost a linebacker that way Islam is alive. They played them at will linebacker weakside linebacker at two hundred and ten fifteen pounds. You watched today. Derwin James plays everywhere in the box. Yeah. He plays. We'll linebacker. He'll play Michael play MAC. He'll play. I believe that this kid and it's early after three years of college. This kid is a number one pick could make all pro as a safety free safety a strong safety. And maybe even as an outside linebacker. He is that physical that talented. He's let me can they do it. Yes. They can do. I feel the same way about it. I think they. And if they get both, right. I I would not want to be a team in the playoffs even with home field advantage that saw the chargers come to town with that quarterback and his surrounding cast. And you know, he's got to watch today. Two guys that nobody talks about the gablers. They gobble up blockers. They set the table for everybody else. Handed me Bain. Brandon me bane is the most underrated nose tackle slash def- and Cree leeches plan out of his mind. So with all that's going on with the Denver office of line to me that might be the most critical Matt matchup. I'm guessing this up that you are picking the chargers today. I've just I've just as a as a completely neutral. Dave, honestly, other favorite. I mean, you know, I'm picking the chargers to win. But I'll tell you what Denver reminds me up. I did Seattle last week and studied them. Yeah. Seattle. Denver reminds me a lot of Seattle. They're not rebuilding their kind of resetting. They got some really talented players. Yeah. Real Denver has really skill guys. And they got some nasty guys. And they got some guys that game changing guys wouldn't surprise me. If Denver pulls her off they're going to hang in there. Yeah. Like like when I saw you in see they hung in there. And then you're just not quite good enough yet. You could see my friend hang in there. That is my friend. Hank bauer. Does an excellent job.

"Because even even if you watch one hundred hours of film a day, you're still going to struggle with the concepts and the and the nuances there. What are they supposed to? I will say just as someone who watches the same team for every snap Mike pouncey flashes. I mean, that's just someone that jumps when you watch plays. And you see him move and get into space and what he's able to do from that center position. I mean, so I and that's just in. I can't give you anything beyond that. It's just in watching every snap offensively for that team. That's someone that will pop when you get to watch seven games worth of football. He looks like the best guy on that line. And it doesn't seem to be even close. All right. Well, we'll keep our eye on that. And the entire top one hundred list. And I am open to your notes. So hit me up at damage Shekar on Facebook or on Instagram wherever you, please. All right. Let's get into it. Now Eddie spaghetti behind the glass or you awake. Unfortunately. You have to be acrimony around here. All right shy away on flicked. Play it cool here. I'm I'm cool cucumber. It's like it's gonna get hot. No, no, no. I'm not. You say you're non just say this is like game of thrones. I'm in the night watchman. And I'm you know, I'm protecting the wall, disagree more. That's what I'm doing. Not not based on your tweets. And I'll say you get your use of all caps throughout this tweeting. Are not the nightwatchman. I can tell you that right now are not going to say is an check back up was to to to to France this during the draft process before the draft process. I wanted Rosen. That's the guy wanted to. I was ready for the replacement then as you read stuff, and so what cattlemans direction wasn't why they hired Shurmur because he basically just accepted Mara's plan of keeping ally. As a quarterback from that point on. I was like why can't wish for something? That's not going to happen. So if they take Nelson or chub or Barclay, I have to be fine with it. So that's where on from. I'm coming from. We can't change what the ownership wanted. So now after seeing Barclay play, and like you said before like perfectly the guy's amazing, and knowing what could happen this off-season, whether it's Derek Carr, or if it's Herbert who I watch a lot of really really like more. So than when I've watched darnold. I'm okay, I'm okay with what could happen in the future. And I mean like that's just really. What it comes? Okay. We'll glad Brinson go. I want money to read some tweets. I just want to say at the outset. My the point that I have consistently made about saquon is this even in the days when running backs or more prominent and more impactful in wins and losses. The best running backs were Walter Payton. And then Barry Sanders. Neither one of those teams got a whiff of of the playoff runs. Walter date at the very tail end of his career defense emerged up in Chicago. But that's the that's the comparison saquon does look generational in skill and pedigree and everything. But so what we've seen a lot of guys got one win that doesn't make you into a winning pro football team. That's my knock against rookie right now. The record be very similar. No. But you have your quarterback of the future. We can you. And spine. You would be able to find a running back. I think Barclay plus running back by I think, it's I don't I think the difference is I'm not putting Darnell that high up on a pedestal where some people might think Barclay's down much better than most people that are naming if you're gonna throw like Nick shot at me or or like Ronald rally. Yup. Oh, oh, you mean get him running Harry on Johnson guys are gonna take like it's not that's insulting to compare those guys to Barkley plus..

He can stop the rush at the line is image has enough speed the pool on blocking players, and what he has done for his quarterback who me, and hey, we're talking about is probably played his best ball in a long time. "Well the weird thing is that they accuse yes rosen of not loving football enough that maybe it's not as important to him because he comes from a rich family i think when you hear guy say something like they were nine mistake ahead of me that shows that not only football importance him that he wants to be great give me the guy that wants to be great all the time and look if you have somebody like that at the quarterback position somebody who's a competitor i thought that's what we log quarterbacks for how often do we hear about tom brady's competitiveness even would take him baker mayfield number one the thing that people said they love about him is his edge hello mr edge is josh rosen i hope he's a stupid success in the nfl be worse josh you should be happy you should be happy that you were drafted by the dolphins you know if you come here you're drafted by the dolphins you know you'll make nobody down here i mean how many dolphins can you name all the time they got rid of consumer mike pouncey god name them all how many can you name name all yeah geico he's got the council father bragging because he knows a solitary golfing is ridiculous lamar jackson fill all they way to thirty two look we can talk about whether lamar jackson should have fallen or shouldn't have fallen but in a draft where baker mayfield all of his measurable are less than lamar jackson's in college it is hard to make the argument that a guy who was unrecorded a walk on in college that that guy is the number one pick with a skill set that similar tollemar jackson's without being appreciably more sizable than lamar jackson i don't get with that comparison point when you look at what both those guys didn't college one of them shouldn't be number one while the others thirty two i think a lot of what's determined in terms of a quarterback success is not so much about where you go but who you go to in the situation you in here i agree with you dan given his skill set given what he's accomplished in college it felt like lamar jackson should've gone higher however the blessing in disguise look what happened to watch it a lot of.

"The cowboys and the chargers the chargers brought in russell oh coon it left tackle last year pro bowler now they brought in mike pouncey center pro bowler they also have two guards they drafted last year who are exceptional that the franchise loves they have a great offensive line a borderline hall of fame quarterback the best young pass rusher in elite running back in an elite linebacker so i'm going to name between the cowboys and the chargers these are the two best rosters in the league that nobody is acknowledging are great rosters i'm going to list fourteen players these are pro bowl level players just last year and the chargers and the cowboys mike pouncey tyron smith joey bosa melvin ingram travis frederick demarcus lawrence dan bailey russell okuno casey hayward zack martin melvin gordon philip rivers sean lee those are fourteen elite nfl players some are going to be hall of famers some are going to be close almost all pro bowlers fourteen elite players by the way the cowboys have ten draft picks and the chargers have multiple so when jerry says i don't think there's a big gap he's right coming up okay coming up huge huge hugh i'm not gonna tell you a sport i'm not gonna let you go to the internet huge huge huge huge breaking news while wa wa wa wa wa wa wa awhile and my mock draft wow wow all right so christina now it's all wa wa wa wa wa wa while while while.

"The both made the playoffs yep and i was mocked for both now the cowboys were nine and seven there are two teams in the nfl right now that have significantly better personnel than you give them credit for if i say great roster most say philadelphia houston texans can does city we start pittsburgh steelers we start lumping in these great right if i say bad roster we're like colts browns right there are two teams in this league that went nine and seven last year and they are absolutely among the best rosters in the nfl but they don't make the playoffs and so they don't go in that elite group that you wanna bunch everybody in minnesota philadelphia new orleans pittsburgh new england houst kansas the cowboys and the chargers the chargers brought in russell okuno at left tackle last year pro bowler now they brought in mike pouncey center pro bowler they also have two guards they drafted last year who are exceptional that the franchise loves they have a great offensive line a borderline hall of fame quarterback the best young pass rusher in elite running back in an elite linebacker so i'm going to name between the cowboys and the chargers these are the two best rosters in the league that nobody is knowledge in our great rosters i'm going to list fourteen players these are pro bowl level players just last year and the chargers and the cowboys mike pouncey tyron smith joey bosa melvin ingram travis frederick demarcus lawrence dan bailey russell okuno.

"In los angeles as a member of the chargers he'll take over for spencer pulley who had been the starting center last year mike pouncey two year fifteen million dollar contract to become the new center of the chargers and look mike and marquees pouncey chris they've always been a little rough and tumble and people have viewed them differently ever since they wore the free aaron hernandez hats and i look the dolphins didn't just accidentally get rid of mike pouncey they had decided the time had come for him to move on and before i pounce on policy i want to fully understand what went wrong in miami before i welcome this guy into my starting lineup in la yeah i mean are they a little rough around the edges and you know may maybe certainly from the way they grew up but i'll say this they love football and they are good people from what i've been around i really enjoyed them they are they will keep it real with you always but they are true football guys and i think that's what what coaches will like about them i think that's what the chargers are gonna like about them and the chargers man i mean getting him they drafted the guard out a western kentucky in the first round last year the chargers are one of those teams that we won't talk about a lot during the off season but man watch out for them they would be my prime team to say teams that didn't make the playoffs last year that will make it next year the chargers would be my number one candidate and let me say this my sense is that there are certain guys on that miami roster that were exhausting right adam gays.

"Deck prescott a couple other things here he doesn't even eighty eight i'm not sure about that one i'd have to look that up the dolphin assist so the headline they use here's the dolphins unfurl a whirlwind mysteriously clunky transactions i would have just put what the hell are the dolphins doing they send away jarvis landry you get rid of adama con su trade for robert quinn but then you get rid of mike pouncey you restructure the deal of of ryan tannehill to open up money but you don't go out and get players their biggest addition so far has been danny amendola what are they doing in miami the question has had a tough week southbound had a tough week man other than just trying to make the pass to the super bowl even easier for the patriots i don't know what those guys are doing sometimes you sometimes teams think you you you gain an advantage by subtraction so maybe getting rid of a consumer maybe maybe while he was a good player on the field there's always been reports about sue being terrible locker room guy being a one hundred percent miyagi never buying into the team concept i think they i think they blinked on jarvis landry and it costs them i think they want jarvis landry they blinked and they didn't do i guess what they were supposed to do well i think the thing that's most perplexing to me is like you could've kept jarvis landry if you wanna if you want hand did the tannahill move there i still think they're convinced that tannahill is their quarterback for the future.
