"And we decided to go out on social media and we have had an amazing response, not just from foreigners, but surprisingly, salvadorans, expat salvadorians had living overseas and Canada in America and who want to come home. And we've got some awesome stories. Absolutely. So we did the first to win the first people to arrive here and we're definitely not going to be the last people. But because we've gone social, we have a lot of connections and a lot of people reaching out. So some of the stories. We get crazy stories. I mean, just on the weekend, we had people from, well, I don't want to expose anybody too much, but we had people from another third world country actually come and visit us and say, we want to move and they were asking us questions about all the living expenses and bits and pieces. While we're on the balcony of our House, we had a Salvadoran lady over the fence going, hello, hello. Are you Nikki and James? Like, yes, and she's like, oh, I love your show. We're coming back. They're actually building a house over the fence from us. And she was like, my husband and I want to take you out on the fishing boat to catch fish. And we just have these heartwarming stories. It's really cool of salvadorans coming back. And then also, you know, we've got stories of people who have made the leap and the jump foreigners who were absolutely really pretty depressed sitting in their home on the account going, what are we doing with our world lockdowns were happening? They haven't been watching YouTube saw or one of our videos and said, wow, these guys can do it. So, you know, one of us. Close by. We know that we're really good friends with them now. And so many people that have done that leap and come to us afterwards and said, we watched your videos inspired us. It gave us hope that El Salvador wasn't as dangerous as we were being sold because I mean, honestly, Nikki goes by herself to buy the vegetables now on occasion and she doesn't feel unsafe. I don't think I've never actually felt unsafe here at all. With James Obama. So yeah, which has gone even driving the car on the other side of the road. I'm fine. Yeah.

"Man, this is so exciting. Just the idea of like this next generation of kids is growing up as Bitcoin natives, it's pretty amazing. I do have a question for you guys, and I don't know who to address this to whoever wants to take it. Let me know what you think. This is coming from Leo in the audience. Amy, he DMed the question and it is, do you have any concerns about government continuity? For example, after the current government term ends, what gives you confidence that these projects will continue in particular one thing I was wondering about is what gives you confidence that like, for example, these strides made with crime will continue, et cetera. I can probably take a stab at that. So right now, the current self during government has a very strong approval rating among the people. Believe it or not, salvadorans aren't judging the performance of the current government by their efforts or on Bitcoin. They're just, they're judging it by bread and butter issues are things getting done like his employment up roads getting constructed is safe, safety is probably the biggest one. And based on that, we can project that or I can, on a personal level, see a continuity for at least at the executive level. An additional 5 years after 2024. The legislative level, I see that there is a strong support for the people who have a lot of the initiatives around Bitcoin. As well. They're there for a three year term. It might get little tricky because right now they have a super majority. But they may not have that in the future or they may. I don't know that. That's still undecided. But the change, excuse me, certain things about the legal tender law. It would be like the current Salvadoran opposition would actually have to get a super majority. And they would have to get a hold of the executive or the presidency. In order to do that, I just don't see that in the cards right now. I think what's how about how does it work, for example, what the prisons? I know for example that part of the success with cleaning up the crime rate was Kelly was very aggressive about going out and rounding up gangbangers, basically. And what I mean, something that I wonder about is,

"To allow students to realize that they have sovereignty in their own lives that they have agency in their own lives. And we think that Bitcoin education is the best tool to accomplish that because that's the natural path that Bitcoin leads us to. So we also want to encourage that for other people, right? Not just students, but people involved with the project or people that want to contribute. So it's for me, it's been really, really inspiring to watch the team grow and mature and really fill in that role. And they themselves have become much better at what they do and really empowered to take it to the next level. But this weekend, there are two cool examples of people outside the core team that we didn't even know. That took that initiative. So one is an unnamed Allen. He came to a graduation that we had in a popa on Saturday. And just totally on its own, he collected certain, basically, he gathered, I think there were 11 that signed up for it. But he went and he spoke to all the students asking them if they wanted to learn English. So he's going to host a weekly virtual English class for these recent Bitcoin diploma graduates where I'm pretty sure if Bitcoin is going to be the main topic. And then in addition to that, there's a father daughter pair from Alabama that so maybe take a step back. So we have a Bitcoin diploma, which is a ten week Bitcoin education curriculum. It starts out with three weeks of financial literacy, and then we finish out with Bitcoin and it touches on a little bit of everything, but because it's ten weeks, we're able to go a little bit deeper than the intro classes. That we have and it's been really well received that's growing at a similar it's actually grown faster than everything else that we're doing that's one of the fastest growth things that we have, but there was a so it's open-source. It's in Spanish, and you could download the PDF on GitHub. And anybody could do that and use it and a really cool thing is a father daughter pair from Alabama that want to teach in their local community, they have a connection to their local high school. They downloaded the PDF and they were able to translate it into English and just this weekend I think on Saturday they organized a group of students. They printed it out then. They printed out the books and organized a group of students. And they've started teaching it in the local high school in Alabama, which I believe is the first time that's happened in the U.S.. And I know where aware of similar stories happen in other countries around the world in Spain. I know there's a similar thing that happened with that recently. And it's really inspiring for us to see people take the initiative because that's the point of all of this is to show that we are all capable of more, right? I think that's what Bitcoin. That's the world that we want to live in. We want to live in a world. In which we decide for ourselves and we create our future, not someone else, that dictates it to us.

"Vax or anything. I would take the polio vaccine or anything like the legitimate, but from the get go, they've been lying the entire time about the numbers, what this actually is, where it came from. They've been lying about everything. And actually does and doesn't do. They've been lying about all of it. And in the treatments itself, that they were incentivized not to treat this. They were incentivized from the get go and the cares act at the top thousand hospitals were given $75,000 per COVID patient. That's just if you walk through the door. If you had let's move on from this topic, because number one, the show is going to get flagged. And I'm okay with that. We've had lots of our shows flagged. But I get in trouble now. People tattle on me. They're like Alex is hosting spaces and they're talking about conspiracy theories. So we need to be careful. That's in the zone. "Why that spread has not really changed. So if anybody could speak to that it would be really hugely interested. Nate still can't hear you, man. I don't know the answer to that question, Lisa. I have no idea. I don't even know where you would go to see those metrics as far as like wrapped eth. I've been so far out of the shitcoin environment that I have no idea where you would go to see it. Yeah, but you can see where it would be hugely interesting to figure that out, right? Like if the top, whatever, 20 people are holding Ethereum. And they're holding millions or however much money. They're holding an eth. If they are actively buying to keep that spread tight, and then selling, you know, when the market, when the enthusiasm for Ethereum picks up and the market does the work for it, you know, they could maybe exit those positions. Well, there's so many games that can be played, right? Yes. Yeah, and if you look at the FTX story, it's amazing. He basically made up his own fucking Ronald McDonald coin and said, hey, this thing has value and then convinced other people it had value. And by doing so was able to create lots of financial leverage. I don't see why Ethereum would be any different. People forget that thing had a 70% pre mine. I'm going to say that again, 70 percent pre mine. And they've convinced everybody, this is somehow a good idea. They could use all of that to create all kinds of financial leverage to fucking make promises to people, to get real money, to use the real money, to buy or not Bitcoin, but Ethereum, to fuck with the price. I mean, there's so many games that sound like Fiat two. So I'm going to dig through glass note a little bit now that Lisa brought that up because they do track some of the wrapped Bitcoin metrics. And according to what I'm looking at right now, the circulating supply as November 16th was 244,000 wrapped Bitcoin circulating. So I'm just going to keep digging through this, see what else I can find. I'll send you a DM, Lisa, if I find anything

"So as long as they didn't lie to their investors of genesis, as long as there's enough data legal liability, like if you were a rich person and you give a bunch of money to a company whose job it is to lend that money and that companies screws up and lends it to the wrong people, that's not really a criminal act, right? Like it's not like they lied to you that they weren't going to lend the money out. So as long as genesis didn't actually break any laws, they can go down completely, all of the investors that put money into genesis will just lose all that money, but at least Barry doesn't go to prison or anything like that. So genesis will likely fail unless a fidelity, but no one wants to bail them out because genesis lent money to companies that will not be able to pay that money back. So who the hell would bail them out? Now, if GBTC was at a premium right now, yeah, the parent company digital currency group would probably sell a bunch of that GBTC at a premium and bail out their subsidiary, only not to look bad, they know they're going to lose that money. And that's pretty much the story how I see it. But since they refusing to show any risk to everyone's question, the parent company and therefore everything else, or is this something that they can keep isolated? There is a risk if genesis was run closer to, say, Celsius, like for example, if they promised some of the people, some of the creditors of genesis, some of the investors that it gave genesis capital to then use that capital and they lied to them and they used it in a way they weren't supposed to, then there was a huge legal risk. But I like, again, unless they're been lying or you can go to a grayscale website. They tell you exactly how much Bitcoin is backing it. Even to the share, right? So unless they're lying about that and they haven't seen any proof that they are lying, yeah. Do they have an administrator that has to verify all their assets or.

"No doubt such hires will prompt cries of hypocrisy against Apple and accusations at the company killed Facebook's ad business to bolster its own. It's possible that case could be made more recent op-ed by Mike Peterson and Apple insider argues Apple has never been against advertising. It's against invasive data collection. Want to imagine that that is distinction that Apple will highlight going forward and that its opponents will do their best to ignore flooding is wreaking havoc across Pakistan and Apple has pledged relief. A piece from NBC News as monster monsoons have left one third of that country underwater, according to the NBC report, Pakistan's government has said that more than 33 million people around 15% of the population have been affected by the extreme weather. The peace also says that more than 1000 people have been killed and roughly $10 billion worth of damage has been sustained. Now a piece from Apple insider says apple's CEO has pledged support. In a Twitter post on Wednesday, Tim Cook said the floods in Pakistan and surrounding areas are devastating humanitarian disasters, our thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones, the many displaced families and all those affected. Apple will donate to relief and recovery efforts on the ground. A very important update for some very old iPhones, Mac rumors as Apple on Wednesday released iOS 12 5 6, you heard me we're likely just days away from the release of iOS 16 and yet apple is reaching back in time to hammer out an old issue. Perhaps, but important. According to Mac rumors, the iOS 12 5 6 update fixes a major vulnerability that was actively exploited, so it's worth updating right away if you have an older device. The webcat vulnerability was already fixed in iOS 15.61 iPadOS 15.61 and macOS Monterey 12.5 .1. The fact that Apple is making sure that devices that can't move beyond iOS 12 are protected seems to speak to the seriousness of this issue. And so if you were using an iPhone 5 S, iPhone

"There was a big gang shootings or things like that and so it's really flipped the script on people's perception of el salvador. And i don't think you can underestimate the value of that. And then also the number of companies that are located here that like literally could not have pointed out bitcoin on a map six months ago and now we're opening offices here and not just pain better. But they're providing that opportunity for people increase their education and the people that are working for these companies. now we'll have the skills to go out and start their own companies. And so i think regardless of what happens regardless of the ups and downs. El salvador is going to be the most prosperous country in central america. Maybe latin america. You know ten years from now and i think bitcoin is going increase because definitely salvador is not going to be the last country to embrace it. I'm hearing all kinds of rumors of other countries. That are looking to go the same direction and so. I think it's just a matter of time till that happens. I'm sure right now. They're sitting back a little bit to see how this works out and if it works out well they'll jump in if if there's some you know big stumbles along the way they'll probably wait but you know that might just be the difference between it being six months before the next you know announcement in sixteen months so i think it's inevitable that that's the way the world's going to go. Yeah i tend to agree with you. Obviously more so than not last question i have for you which is a fun one Bitcoin is in what appears to be a bull. Ron any price predictions or thoughts as to where bitcoins price goes through the rest of this year. I mean i personally don't think we're done with the cycles. I i like the super cycle idea. I would love to think that we you know are are going to have decreased volatility but i. I'm hesitant to make price predictions because everybody knows how that's worse than trying to predict the weather. But i would guess somewhere in the one hundred fifty range into the end of the year but i still think we'll have a big back in the next year. I hope i'm wrong. But that's kind of what i'm assuming but i do know ten years from now it'll be at least ten x what it is now and so that's more what i'm focused on so you think ten years five hundred thousand dollars or more is Is pretty safe bet. Yeah i mean. Easy i i would make that bet all day long so so my friend. I am making that bet as i assume you are as well all right. "Businesses specifically using to accept the payment to do any loyalty programs that they have like. What is it like from their perspective so most of the businesses that we've been working with here in l. Zombie are very small mom and pop businesses so their businesses that never would be qualified to accept credit cards and so for them. This is the first time for them to have any type of mobile payments network just fascinated by back but now you know somebody can send bitcoin from across town without having to be physically present and they can send a little delivery boy to go deliver them their papooses their their groceries and so for them. It's been a huge asset kind of have this whole digital world opened up to them for the first time Most of them have been using the bitcoin. Beach wallet developed by gallo money. And that's because the team from galloway spent several months here in kind of learned how the people use it. They saw the things that didn't make sense to them. Oftentimes a big disconnect from the developers who of live in our own bubble versus specifically people in a developing country. and so. i think it's very important that we build wallets in tools that are actually what the users want. Not what the developers want perfectly said. Mike i got two more questions for you. And then we'll we'll let you go is one when you think about bitcoin. And the continued move forward. the president is tweeting and he tweeted yesterday that they bought two hundred bitcoin. He didn't tweeted. They bought another two hundred and then today during the dip. He essentially tweeted that they bought the dip. One hundred fifty. Bitcoin said thanks. Imf kind of in some way was using twitter in a very different way than most heads of state us. How do you evaluate bitcoin. The use of twitter and the el salvadorian or the salvadorian economy in the people. Are they excited by this. Do they not like it like it. Just seems like it's so different that you could almost make an argument that it's good or bad. We were discussing earlier on the show. Is you know i. It could be a positive for bitcoin. It could be a negative. It could be a positive. All salvador could be a negative same for the president. How how do you view it. In terms of almost like the real time information sharing and the transparency in the engagement that maybe other heads of state don't participate it. Yeah i think for bitcoin. There's no question it'll it'll be beneficial. I mean even even if things go sour something unexpected happens and you know there's a really negative impact just the fact that people are exposed to bitcoin for the first time. And you know that sticks with them and so i think regardless of what happens here on the government level. El salvador will be a major hub for bitcoin just because once people are exposed to planning they rarely let it go as far as for el salvador. I think there's huge opportunities. We've already seen it. Just the amount of earned media that they've gotten from from this decision. I mean it's worth tens of billions of dollars. Just all the focus. That's been on el salvador and mostly in a positive light in looking at them being forward thinking embracing new technology versus historically. They've only. The news is only focused on el salvador..

"Some of that is through the economic incentives. Some of that is just wanting to be around and surrounded by like minded individuals. And so there's a lot of tourists or international travelers that keep going there any thoughts on How helpful those people from outside the country can be. Are there risks to too many. You know kind of non salvadorians coming. Is there resentment at all or or maybe. There's positive reception. Like how do you just think about the local citizens versus those that are coming there because of bitcoin. I think it's definitely mixed. I mean we've seen a lot of people here. Come here for self serving purposes. They're just trying to ride the wave of publicity about el salvador and tie themselves to it and you know a lot of them with projects that i would do a scams and so you know we're definitely concerned about that. But in general has been very impressed the the number of large companies that have come in here and have expressed this view of you know. Salvador is a small country. We don't assume you know we don't expect to make money here but we just really want to support what's going on and be part of it in some way and so we're willing to invest even if it's doesn't pay dividends here we feel like as far as the overall infrastructure bitcoin and for the future of bitcoin that is super important and so yeah we definitely encourage people to come to el salvador but not with a view that you're going to teach the people here something with view that you're gonna learn from them like how are people really using bitcoin. Real transactional ways. These people here that are living in a attend shack with a dirt. Floor are doing you know. Hundreds of a bitcoin transactions a year which is a dwarfs sweat. Even some of the biggest bit winners in the us doing so. They really understand the logistical problems. They understand the infrastructure problems with with internet titan activity in those sorts of things and they can really teach the bitcoin companies how to build products that can go out to bigger developing countries like india or or all throughout africa. And so i think they can really use El salvador as as a learning center for what will work and that will also benefit el salvador. Because it just brings in all these high paying jobs than an provides A environment where locals can start businesses. That can fries. What is your message or kind of guidance. For those that can't travel to el salvador so plenty of people have internationally are very interested. They're watching this. It's not anything they can do to help. Or further the development of this. Yeah so we. We often will post things for projects that we're trying to raise funds to support the education of locals for them to go to university or things like that. We have a number of projects for the bitcoin. Reach project that we're always open to people helping financially support But i think also just to kind of keep following it and to have an open mind and to not jump to conclusions. We have like a bad month or we hit a roadblocks. You know this is gonna be a long term game and so. I think we need to be in this for the long haul. My brothers are here with me. I think they've got a couple of questions as well. What questions you guys got. Hey mike thanks for doing this. Big fan of kind of you guys are doing down there on the ground in el salvador. My question would be around kind of the volatility of bitcoin. And what you've seen with the citizens using it there. So i think as a savings technology and kind of a save savings platform for.

"Even today we've seen the value drop down and that's very concerning for people when they feel like they're going to be forced to use it. But that's not the case the way the law's written nobody has to use bitcoin. It's something that i think the way they're trying to do. It is for over time. People to slowly increase their exposure as it kinda understand about till the and so yeah. I think it's just kind of natural for people to have those Those concerns when something new is being pushed in it makes complete sense. And i try to remind folks that politics penetrate all kinds of things like this here in the united states el salvador and pretty much anywhere in the world. Talk to me about the chievo wallet and the atm plan that the president has where they're i think they're putting fifty one hundred. Atm's around the country. What is the general perception that you for. You've got a very unique seat in that. Obviously you're a large. Bitcoin proponent You've been very active in helping onboard. A ton of users in that country And also i think having the president kind of do this. You seem to be supportive of that as well. So how do you see the rollout plan In terms of maybe the pros and cons in your opinion i think it'll be disastrous. Rollout like any new technology roll out. I mean even the. Us government can't roll out something with all the resources they have behind them. So you know from from large governments the two large tech companies anytime something new as rolled out. It's very rocky first. So i'm assuming it'll be the same here. Maybe i'll be pleasantly surprised. But i assume for most people they won't be able to use the wallet this week and then generally over time. They'll they'll kind of catch up with the volume the workout the bugs and so i wouldn't be surprised if you know two weeks from now. People are calling a failure but three months from now everybody realizing wow this actually works. In its revolutionizing the way commerce has happened in el salvador at saving people money. And it's giving people access to the hardest money on earth that people able to save and something. That's not depreciating over time so i really have the a long view of this. It's not a short game. This is definitely a long game. And i think the president here knows that and so i think he will stick to it. You know for the long term even through the bumps and yeah so i would just tell people to hold their judgment till we get at least six months out that That i think that's a very fair point when you look forward One of the things. I'm personally interested in is canal. Salvador essentially embrace bitcoin and potentially move from developing nation to a developed nation. Can it launch itself forward Kind of move up in the world order if you will How do you see. Bitcoin impacting the country economically and socially over the next twenty twenty five years. There's something that you're ultra bullish on..

"Bitcoin is digital gold in twenty percent. Focus on on the using it as a transactional money where now zonta it's it's the reverse but eighty percent of the value comes from the transactional mess of it and twenty percent from long term by number go up and so i think a lot of people don't realize you know the vast majority of the world doesn't have access to things like cash apper been mo- or those sorts of things so for them even moving a small amount of money. It can be a huge headache long. Bus rides expensive and so anything from trying to send twenty dollars to you. Know your relative across the country to offer myself trying to buy vehicle here. It's a major hurdle to get money into the country and to move it and bitcoin just kind of breaks down all those barriers when you think about the infrastructure itself when it first started here dante. Bitcoin beach it seemed like it was a little bit more onerous the user experiences the infrastructure wasn't quite there. Now my take from what i hear from a number of different people have been is much more kind of lightning network enabled there's micro payments there's cheap fast transactions. What are people using for. The most part is it. The cash apps of the world is strike is some other piece of infrastructure in. What does that user experience look like for them. We've actually worked hand in hand with a with a small upstart lightning company called gallo money. We've developed a bitcoin wallet and we've been able to kind of integrate a lot of things that are innovative like a map function in there. So you can actually click on this map and see all the places that are accepting bitcoin throughout el salvador and then actually pay them from a lightning payment directly through the map. They don't have to create an invoice or anything like that. We also use user names and some how strike is doing with the username. And so i think between strike in the bitcoin beach wallet than those are the ones that are primarily being used mostly because they get rid of the friction. I mean it's just makes very fast to do lightning transaction actually faster than cash and so that was something we had to come overcome initially some of the store owners say it takes longer i have to create an envoy by the way where this it's actually faster and so i think that's very important as far as getting uptake on a real retail level. Absolutely obviously everyone is talking about el salvador. Now and i think most people know the origin of bitcoin beach and the work that you and your team has done there. Asante but The president of el salvador obviously pushed through the legislation And they now have started to acquire bitcoin. What are people on the ground. Thinking about this is this. A positive development is their concerns. Is there kind of a whole spectrum of reactions or emotions like what are you hearing on the ground. Now there's definitely a whole spectrum one the realize it's become very political because the president is pushing it. The opposition parties are are suddenly very anti bitcoin. I think if he would have tried to outlaw deadline they would be protesting in favor of bitcoin. So you have to kind of throw out that just the normal politics that happened in any country but on a real concern level there are people here who just they don't understand it. They don't understand what's happening. They're being told that they're going to be forced to use bitcoin. That it could drop you know. The body could go down and half overnight..

"Help. Everyone understand your background and kind of origin story of bitcoin beach for those. That don't know. Yeah so. I wound up in el salvador about seventeen years ago on a surf trip and fell in love with the country. In fact my wife and buying a place here in about eight years ago we moved to salvador and just saw a lot of the needs in our community and around the country and so we started investing in different projects and just kind of specially focusing on zombie. Where we're at and two years ago kind of combine my love for bitcoin with the the needs of the une banked here in just seeing how bitcoin could truly change their lives even much more than his changed my life and so about two years ago. We started pushing bitcoin out into the community through incentivizing kids to get good grades doing different work in the community. A lot of things really focused on keeping them out of gangs gangs have have historically been a big issue in el salvador and so We never envisioned it taking off into something that would change the world's monetary system. But it's been it's been a crazy ride and when you think about those early days of starting bitcoin beach. What was the response that people look at you like you're crazy. It strike immediately. People are like oh yeah. This makes sense. Let me start using it. What was the reaction. Both when you talk to the adults they looked at you. Like you're crazy. You know people people my age you know look at it like this is insane like what do you mean. How do we touch bitcoin. What do you mean. No government. Backs it You know they wanted to be able to physically hold it and so it was really a challenge for them but when we switched to focusing on the youth for them it was normal. They're used to living in a digital world or used to transacting digitally so for them. It made sense that money would be digital and that it would be decentralized and so they were kind of the ones that top their parents Kind of like..

"What's going on guys. It is tuesday september seventh. And that means it's my birthday but it also means. It's bitcoin day in el salvador. My birthdays have always felt more like new year's than new year's to me part of that has to do with so many years of school beginning at the exact same time in when you're a kid you mark your age by your great in school as much if not more than by your actual age part of it is that i just absolutely love fall. Either way i find. It's a really good time to reflect on where things are where they've been and where we'd like to see them go so for giggles before we dive into our main topic. I wanted to look back at the last couple years of shows to see what was happening around. Now we back in two thousand nine hundred ninety. I hadn't officially started the breakdown yet. I was doing a pro version of it. A livestream version called the crypto daily. Three at three where it would basically do the brief. But live via periscope and youtube and twitch the main topic of my birthday in twenty nineteen was lieber versus china the global digital money wars heat up libra had been announced that summer and china had kicked into high gear trying to get their digital yuan. Efforts accelerated last year. My birthday actually fell on labor day itself. So i did a reading of nick. Carter piece called the crypto dollar surge and the american opportunity in it nick discussed many of the themes that we regularly come back to hear around the continued growth of usd denominated stable coins. And what it might look like for the us to embrace rather than to condemn that emerging infrastructure. Interestingly these string of september seven stories light up rather well with today's stories about the way crypto-currencies digital assets and private monies are changing the nature of the states relationship with money as well in that. Today's banner story is even more significant. Of course today. Is bitcoin day in el salvador. Today in a world first. Bitcoin has become the legal tender of an actual country. So how did we get here. In june el salvador's president naib. Kelly appeared as a surprise guest during bitcoin. Miami he was introduced by jack. Mahler's of strike muller's had spent the previous few months down in el salvador specifically in asante at a project called bitcoin. Beach between beach is a community project that in many ways pave the way for el salvador's bitcoin law by showing how useful. Bitcoin actually was stores in sante adopted. Bitcoin payments youth got paid for jobs in bitcoin. People were able to save time by not having to take buses for hours to get remittance payments and during vid contactless payments. Kept people safe and so on and so forth between beach had initially been funded by an anonymous. Bitcoin whale but quickly took on a life of its own to hear more about that story. Listen to my episode with bitcoin. Beach director mike peterson from june twelfth. Anyway back to bitcoin. Miami naib kelly. The president of el salvador appeared via video statement on the last day of the conference to announce that he was introducing a bill to make. Bitcoin legal tender. That bill would pass. Just a few days later by supermajority in el salvador's legislature on june ninth and we go into effect a few months later today on september seventh between would not be replacing the us dollar which had been official currency since two thousand one but would be given equal standing with the greenback. The response of the global bitcoin community was just about what you'd expect. El salvador is set to become the world's first bitcoin nation. This'll be an absolutely seminal moment in bitcoins history a chance for bitcoin to live up to its promise as a tool for economic empowerment that so many of us have been so excited about for so long. Let's be clear about something here. Despite all the controversy that. I'm going to dig into next. This is one of the more significant days in bitcoins. History the adoption of bitcoin as an official currency by a sovereign is something that few would have believed two years ago to say nothing of a decade ago at the beginning of bitcoins journey. Whatever happens next. This will be an incredibly important historical moment however nothing. This big happens without controversy. There've been a couple of different big lines of controversy. That i want to explore and the i is perhaps the most expected. Let's call it institutional controversy. El salvador like any nation is part of a collection of international institutions that make up the global order in the post cold war world. It took just days after l. Salvador's bitcoin bill pass to see how that traditional order an order which it should be noted exists largely to prop up the global. Us dollar economic system would respond on june seventeenth. The world bank rejected a request from el salvador to help with implementation around there. Bitcoin law a spokesperson told reuters via email quote. We are committed to helping all salvador in numerous ways including for currency transparency and regulatory processes while the government did approach us for assistance on bitcoin. This is not something. The world bank can support given the environmental and transparency shortcomings. So this is self-evidently b. s. The energy thing is an easy patsy in the situation. But it's the addition of the transparency critique that makes us rings hollow bitcoins on chain. Ledger is massively more transparent than a traditional fiat system and given that it's clearly them just saying yeah no thanks. We're not touching this at the same time. The imf also said that it saw quote macroeconomic financial and legal issues with bitcoin proposal in july they went a little farther publishing a blog post that while not specifically mentioning el salvador was pretty clearly aimed at them. Crypto assets as national currency a. Step too here. Their main critiques. The most direct cost of widespread adoption of a crypto assets such as bitcoin is to macroeconomic stability if goods and services were priced in both a real currency and crypto asset households and businesses would spend significant time and resources.

"And use that matter to you. That's odyssey a u. d. a. c. y. Okay so a lot has happened in atlanta over the past. You know what. I don't even know how much time will season i was gonna give time for him but there really isn't a timeframe while start with the most recent news which happened today. Which is that they've signed. Wnba veteran candice dupree do pre was waived of from the seattle storm. A couple of weeks ago and everyone was kind of like what's going on But it's reported that the alleging have picked her up Head coach areas. Taylor who will get into later Said that he was excited to be reunited with candace after coaching. Her in college campus brings championship experience. Professionalism any great basketball. Iq to our team. She will add scoring depth instability. Our post play. We are excited to welcome future. All famer candidates to the atlanta dream quite a statement. Bradshaw what do we think about the signing. I think it's nice that he mentioned this ability to the post play i think the majority of this signing is purely for the first part which is veteran leadership and locker room presence especially after all the rumors. I don't we don't and again we don't know for sure what happened. At least i don't know for sure what happened and their locker room but obviously there were rumors of that. You know that there was a bit of a an altercation. An argument in their locker room Before the before the break. And maybe i. It's a young team like atlanta. I think most teams w are relatively young but like teams near the bottom are relatively young atlanta. You know lead by two younger players. they need a veteran presence. And i mean it's hard. It's hard to find anyone better than that than kelsey kelsey degree. My goodness sorry. Candace duprey. it's hard to find anybody better for veteran leadership. That's just free on the market to get so. I mean i. I'm sure she'll play. I'm sure she'll play some. I don't i don't think she would sign there. There was an expectation that she would play a little bit But i think this is mostly to get her in the locker room and like. Hey all i've been in the league along ask time all right. Let me let me show you. let me show. y'all how it's done. Let me show you how to be professional. Let me show you how to like. You know just win at a win at the professional and like just calm them down a little bit and just show them like hey like i. I know what i'm talking about. You got eating. Y'all to listen to me so i think it's a good sign thing. I think it's something they need. I i was. I wasn't surprised the storm. Let her go like they didn't really have a role for her There they are going to be good regardless no offense to debris but they're going to be good regardless But i i'm sure they'll i'm sure the the the dream will is it. She brings much needed Veteran presence. I know she'll give them some on-court stuff too but it's mostly for the locker room. I think i'm with you on that. I think that's something that this team you know. They've been in there rebuild in with everything that's been going on. I think they do need a voice like that in their locker room. And i think that it's a good signing in that sense. And then like i mentioned before the atlanta dream do have a new coach now. They were mike peterson. Step down because of health reasons. And he's going to be replaced by scenarious. Taylor like i mentioned before mike peterson so he said that for health seasons that wnba season will not allow him to adequately address. He's decided to step down from his coaching duties with the team. They all the players had like really nice things to say about him But what do we think about this like what's going on here. I feel like it was just a situation where he wasn't. Maybe he just wasn't ready for it. He just wasn't like he. He had to step in because nikki. Colin left so orla left so surprisingly going to baylor So i feel like it was something he like. He took on the opportunity. But it wasn't maybe something. He was fully ready for at this time. I don't want to speculate too much. I don't want to speak for him but again it doesn't sound like it was an issue of the players. Didn't respect him or you know like he was doing a bad job. I know they weren't great when he was there. But it's not like the roster he had was very good anyway so i feel like it was just i. I don't think he's lying when he says it's for health reasons. I think you just. It was a little bit more than he could handle at this time. Yeah and he is moving into a role in the front office so like you said before. There's i don't think there's any sort of bad blood or anything there at all since he still with the organization But it's definitely been quite a busy day. Like i feel like i'm just getting news after news so i did want to shout out spencer nausbaum a who. You can follow on twitter at spencer underscore. Who's been doing a great job of just kind of reporting on every single atlanta -treme news and he's done a great job of covering them and i just wanted to give them a quick shout out because that's where i've been getting a lot of my inside info. You know reporting all of that so he deserves his flowers on that. But what is kind of like the next steps for atlanta right now like candidates. They.
