He says jacksonville state. Just beat florida state on a hail. Mary and so. We're already entertained by her. Watch the replay. I've never seen gallo at this time of night. Be so animated in my life when he said that wasn't the last player like what are you talking about it. Because that wasn't a hail. Mary was well no no. It wasn't a hail mary. He could not believe that in fact it wasn't it was a normal play with florida state man to man coverage in the final. Play the game getting beat and not being able to tackle a receiver from jacksonville state to end a game. No you're right and by the way couple years ago jack state almost beat. Fsu and they. I think they lost it on last split-second kick or something and you know jacksonville. State has got a good football reputation. But i'm not building up. I'm just saying that you cannot take any and it's one thing not to take a school like that seriously at the beginning of the game. But you're down to the final play. Maybe show some intensity as it looked like flag football. Yeah let me just reach out and you get within three inches guy. But they deserve to lose. And i. It's just one more black mark against The acc and we. I just monday afternoon on our show. At all i heard from. Fsu fans man. The spirit of bobby. Don't watch out for us clemson better. Yeah no no. None of us need to watch out for you anymore. Yeah and if you peel that back a little deeper. I thought just pure effort wise. What florida state deal with. Notre dame was great k. It was fun to watch it with no tainting to watch. I don't think there's any argument that ended. Hooker needs to be the quarterback at tennessee. Moving forward and i saw joe milton. Look joe milk to create a player. If i was going to create an athlete on a video game. I'd make him look like joe milton. He just can't connect with a wide receiver. He overthrows just about everybody. Yeah that was as you look not to spend much more time this season on tennessee but it but as you look at their schedule This was the most important game On the schedule because it was really the only way they get to being bowl eligible Because they're not going to be. They got run by team that that needed a field goal the previous week to be what it was that louisiana. One of louisiana's louisiana tech. I'm sorry there's so many down there So i really gave him. Mississippi state life which You know they have lsu coming in two weeks or they're they're they're they're playing but then you know nc state. You can't take them too seriously anymore. And again i genuinely feel badly for jim phillips a new commissioner of the acc to be wondering what he got himself into. When you look at. And i'm not going to get into miami. They were celebrating beating appalachian state like they had just done. Something is that grim as one of the most frustrating teams in america. I just cannot figure. Out how the state of florida if you really want to dive down this rabbit hole and i guess we will since we've already started looking at the premier programs in the state of florida miami with what they've got going on florida's state team look at the state of the state of those programs and poets. It sat with where florida state. Miami miami once again we bought into false streams with them and they just. I don't think it's a disastrous program. I think they're certainly ahead of wherever she was right now but it is a sad state and florida. Now is another story that is about to become center stage. Because the gators. Are you telling me Hosting the biggest game of the weekend such a good segue because we do get to that with florida. They got out of their game yesterday. They go. and now. It's florida alabama week. Alabama took care of mercer forty eight to fourteen barring health issues. Dan mullen has a very interesting decision to make a quarterback because based on what we saw from anthony richardson. Yesterday he came up. He was limited a little bit. After that touchdown run for the kid was three of three hundred fifty yards two touchdowns throwing four carries hundred fifteen yards and a touchdown rushing paul. It's no secret kids from gainesville. It's a good story. The offense just moves better with anthony. Richardson and now. I think dan mullen has to make a decision. Not only for this week against alabama but going forward for the rest of the series with the sec east. Yeah and everything. I'm telling you now is courtesy of tim. Tebow because of hurt him now two straight weeks in meetings talk about anthony. Richardson just think of tim. Tebow and in two thousand and six as the understudy. Under brian kelly having a dominant offensive line but with kyran williams and chris tyree back there. They run the ball well at all at all at all and also Look marcus freeman. Who i think we both really think highly of a defensive coordinator. Hadn't you know they've struggled so far. And i think there's an adjustment going on there. The players aren't quite don't quite get his team yet I'm not all that you know. I'm not that worried about them. Although i will say that. Cincinnati game suddenly seems very interesting but florida state loss last night. If you if you didn't can. I get giant but thi this up 'cause this is like so. There were like looked at a box. Were all my god they lost and then then we saw the replay the play. And it's mind boggling. That florida state had so many defenders like near their own logo on the middle of the field or like it was almost like they were really afraid to give up a play that was going to get them with six seconds left by the way that was going to get them into field goal range. I mean just like it it. Just i don't know this was the kind of laws that felt like when i did that story about all the all the humiliating things. That happened tennessee football last ten years. This was something that seems like it would have happened at tennessee. This was the rare play in a rare ending to a college football game. Where okay the the se team. Just beat the power five team like this is a feel-good story right but when i happened to be watching it was halftime of the byu utah game. And they come on his. Joey galloway jesse palmer and i saw this first i of all i saw this in real time if you if the espn call on it but with roddy jones analysts waking they were getting mad like joey. Galloway was mad at florida state. He was so disgusted. I math were disgusted that they would let that that they could let that happen. It was just like if you played football. This was inexcusable. That you're you're ticked off at them. My favorite call was the florida state. Radio call i don't know who their color analysts. The play by play guy is gene decker off in there for over forever. you know which blerta's the foreign player. I don't don't he. He was yelling at them. He was he was mad at them. Like how could you let that happen. I mean to me it was just you know remote reminiscent of some of those really tagger debacles but if i were floors fan i would try really hard not to throw in the towel on. It's just a really crappy way to lose. And also i found it fitting that. The quarterback of through the passer cooper came from clemson the receiver. Who caught a touchdown was transferred from duke and wasn't even really a a as far like wasn't even a main contributor for do so. Here's an acc team. Losing two acc cast-offs Knock knock great not great not quite helton situation just yet you know i think he can. He can rebound from that I mentioned it just in passing. Just now that byu utah game but man. What must be like to be a byu fan right now on friday. You officially get that big twelve membership. That you've been hoping for years on saturday. You a nine game losing streak to your arrival. And i'll be honest. I thought you take a step back. This fear because as akwesasne was really special quarterback and be believe they had the the bill. Connolly's returning production chart the least returning production of any team in the country and they're facing a utah team. I picked to win the All-south by think would be pretty good and in particular because of charles brewer. The baylor transfer quarterback did nothing against that. Byu defense he did have a good game from their freshman running back but No i mean. Byu dominated that game and great scene afterward. The field storming They didn't get to play utah last year when they had their special season. So i don't know. I just can't imagine how gratifying that.

They can't kick a field goal, so they've got to throw the Hail Mary, listen to what happened on the final play of the game last night in Tallahassee, stamped the Cooper looking down the field. Jacksonville State has wanted Mike Paris on Jacksonville State radio. This is totally insane. There's double coverage on this wide receiver. Jacksonville State's quarterback drops back to pass and find his wide receiver about 25 30 yards down the field. Okay. At this point, the past could be completed. No big deal. All you have to do is tackle him or run him out of bounds. The cornerback, it's turned around and the safety overplays it. Overruns at the wide receiver, then cuts inside. Breaks inside by goes by another defensive player, another secondary member of the Florida State Seminoles and get into the end zone to win it 59 yards out all you have to do if you're Florida State is line 567 guys. Back at the goal line and say, Just tackle who's ever in front of you. You just can't let whatever happens get by you. And instead this isn't even a hell Mary caught in the end zone. Weird things happened yesterday. Here It is your favorite play by play calls from yesterday's college football insanity. I don't believe it On the last play of the game, so track of college football chaos, the announcers losing their minds got a bunch of folks down there because it's excessive. Of celebration. Look at that point. You believe what I just saw? This place isn't inside the same time Award. Any song that ball down there and get that I don't know. Touchdown. I can honestly say I can't believe what I saw yesterday last night between Jacksonville State. And Florida State. Now, remember this. You had played Notre Dame to overtime the prior week, and FS used guts and coming back Mackenzie Milton's quarterbacking. They played hard. They played together. They took a good Irish team to overtime loss at OT. But you felt arrow pointed up for Mike Norville is program in Tallahassee and here they were in a dog fight. "Football just has not been consistently historically good enough and seven straight bowl games okay. There's including a new year's six bowl. There's like forty three caves so the bowl game stat conference champions okay. Well that's that's something And then i don't know how much let me let me because i'm just being like here's the here's the truth. Memphis historically is a terrible football program. Well you said it was terrible. Okay yes once. They committed financially to the program started throwing money at it built an indoor facility and making good hires i justin point day than mike norville now ryan. Silver field to previous coaches are now the head coach at virginia tech and florida state wants memphis got a president and an athletic director who understood the value of football of competent quality football and they invested in it. Memphis has been one of the better football programs in america. Alabama ohio state. I'm not being silly. Here but memphis has been one of the better programs in the acc played for multiple championships like in the title game and won it once and and they have drawn at a group of five level as well better than most in as well as just about anybody. So i get it like houston is also a good football program in the president or it has been in recent years cincinnati in the present. Ucf incredible campus in florida big enrollment humongous enrollment. Yes i get it. I wouldn't necessarily say. It is crazy for the big twelve to pick these for schools over memphis but i it memphis checks and a lot of boxes including fedex corporate sponsorship. I i can just tell you the people in memphis. We're working hard to try to get involved in this. It obviously did not work. I'm not saying it's a mistake for the big twelve to not take memphis but it is devastating for memphis to not be taken by the big twelve. There is no getting around. I was hey this devastating. But let's i'll ask you this question. I will also answer it though if you throw memphis in which forty you kick out. But that's the problem. I don't think it's obvious i don't. I don't think it's obvious. That's why i'm not sitting here. And saying they made a mistake. A lot of people have said they made a mistake. Mike de coursey. Our friend from the sporting news has said that you know the big twelve is making mistake. Not taking memphis. I respect that opinion. i understand it but when you say okay but you gotta pull one of these out to put memphis in. It's not obvious to me which one would pull out. That's just me being honest with. Yeah if i had to pick. I probably picked cincinnati. If you made me pick one that would probably be even. That's not easy. I mean cincinnati. Again we're talking about a top ten to twelve all time. Men's basketball program in the history of the sport the football program's doing very well very nicely located Historically not a great football program but you mentioned memphis is terrible. I read off. Were those football programs. According to the ap were all-time memphis was not in the top. One hundred percents. Ucf barely cracked up one hundred since he was eighty two. I don't know how much media markets really matter. But i do know they matter. I mean daily when decisions i this made. There's a lot of things that get taken into consideration enrollment. Ucf will now have the largest enrollment any big twelve school with the exodus of oklahoma and texas. We're talking like fifty thousand plus they're enrolled at ucf. So that's that's major your ability to have an obviously memphis has this but Significant donors boosters. I'm talking billionaires connected to your program that can that can help from an infrastructure standpoint. That means a lot your history. How well you can draw eyeballs. Obviously here the media market rankings according to nielsen among the cities where the programs are based houston. Houston's the no brainer number eight orlando were. Ucf is number eighteen byu which has a significant media market number thirty in salt lake city. Also the mormon population. I've been told that that's not an insignificant thing. More than five percent of the of the nation's population identifies as mormon and that also Went a long way also. byu tv which. I understand a lot of people may not be familiar with apparently is gets like for what it it gets really really good viewership and so that was also taken into consideration media market. Cincinnati is thirty seven. And then there's a little bit of a drop-off memphis comes in nationally at number fifty one and then the other school that i think would have deserved a really good look and did get a good look but didn't get it ultimately really good program boise number one. Oh two in media market would have been geographically the furthest away. It didn't quite make the cut. Their what memphis needed. I think yes for the big twelve to not want. Byu for whatever reason you might not want byu uh-huh or for byu to not want to join the this league in football for whatever reason byu wouldn't want to join this league in football memphis needed byu and the big twelve to be unable to reach an agreement. And then i think they might have observed emphasized the word might of might have been odor better shot but once. Byu's in and you and your byu to your point is a national brand like it is it it is. It's a big brand so once. Byu's in you take in three more. You can reasonably argue.

"Make a big difference and mack brown. I think highlighted what we're going to see football not just in college but in the nfl. It's fun it's pageantry. it's what we want. We want the fans back. Our game would be the same without the fans. And last year we opened up at home was syracuse of fronta. Twenty-five people i yelled at a player wants it echoed. The stadium figured out figured out now and then. We go to boston college. Nobody people and so. I'm i'm excited. The players are excited. If we can have college football this year with fans what a wonderful thing for all of us the tampa. Bay buccaneers played the entire year without a full stadium including the super bowl in their home. Stadium there was nobody there in reality. Twenty five thousand people were there for the super bowl. they're playing thursday night jam-packed sold out crowd primetime dropping the banner. Twenty two starters returning first time since the raiders in one thousand nine hundred seventy seven. When i was born was the last time the team returned all twenty. Two starters. they're back they're loaded and everyone's taking the cowboys i mean. I know everyone wants to be contrarian. What i don't know man i thing homefield early in week one. I think these teams are going to be jacked up at home. I would be careful taking road dogs this weekend. I just i would tiptoe into that. I think you got home teams in home dogs in the nfl circle them. Look at home dogs in the nfl in week. One got a whole week to break them down but go to the lines and look at home. Dogs in the nfl. Let's keep talking about college. Football including brian kelly's comments after the game. That took a lot of time away from everybody's woke meter next year. Abortion the odds. Kelly in big trouble with. How did you receive. the joke. Tried to land the funny thing about it is that i think that if it was somebody who was not brian kelly. I don't know people would have necessarily have gotten up arm but you know he's he's generally a guy is being grading obviously You know just just that kind of personality. And so i didn't necessarily have a problem with it. I also understand that. This is probably not the kind of joke that people are making these days. And doesn't it was a reference obviously to step back from the seventies but you know sounds have changed. And i think that certainly brian kelly will keep that in mind. Bending forward i heard people say this is going to impact recurring. That families are going to take offense to this and not want to send their kid to play for brian kelly. I don't agree with that at all. Do you think this has staying power or is this just a one off thing that we all forget about. I think it probably ends up being just a one off thing i mean. Look if you didn't know sort of. I guess brian kelly personality before that moments. Ben i feel like that kinda says more about where you your recruiting process. I think that one of the things that That kinda loud coaches to be a little bit grading and to be a little bit fiery is when they have the trust of their players right when you have somebody like pal hamilton. Stand up for you when you have somebody like the book in the past. Stand up for you like that says more. I think about where you are as a coach. I feel bad when you end in a situation where you're taking a thirty seven yard with a chance obviously Send the game to double overtime. I mean it's hard to fathom. I guess is what it comes down to. People i was reading about i mean. Everyone thought that it was going to be both travis and milton playing quarterback and it wasn't until travis had this helmet ripped off and the guy i guess. They claimed he had some injury. He couldn't come back in which i don't really buy but were you surprised that it took them that long to go to milton when they were down by eighteen. A little surprised. I mean we obviously have seen in the past makenzie. Melton can do and it doesn't sound like he had the best camps necessarily but this guy who's been a game for a long time obviously coming back from that massive massive me injury. You just don't necessarily know how things are gonna go but i mean he the driving force behind that. Ucf team that really went through two seasons undefeated and obviously you know apple champions back in two thousand seventeen and so look mike. Morell has seen that. He coached the american athletic competency solid. Ucf he saw how they were kind of a model for the other programs in that league. And so. I'm a little surprised that he waited that long to do it now. I wonder you know we just trying to protect him behind it off at the one. That was still struggling a little bit but he thought come into the game. He knows how to deal with the pressure. He knows to get rid of the ball. He knows generally speaking how to protect his body. I thought he did a tremendous job. And i think that's the other thing they'll say about a two. That's not mackenzie muslim-related. Is that this state team. I think looked a lot further along in the past couple of years. They look they executed better. They look like they were better coach. They look like they were more committed to their assignments. So i think there's a lot of optimism about what micro belt able to do and and you're too and that's not a huge surprise me. I think he's really good coach. I would agree in the transfer is he's gone and gotten really came in made a huge impact especially on the defensive side of the football for florida state and now the acc might be wide open. "We had a great holiday weekend. I must admit I was torn this past Sunday night watching FS You and Notre Dame play football. Been a huge Notre Dame fan ever since I was yea high. So obviously I was written for my Irish on on Sunday night. But when former UCF quarterback Mackenzie Milton went into the game for F S u in the fourth quarter, I found myself rooting for KZ. And the entire nation was really I mean, when you take a look at it. What an unbelievable story. How can you not root for Mackenzie Milton about 2.5 years after nearly losing his leg? And, uh, you CF game at USF Mackenzie was back. Almost led fs You back to victory was four of his first for passing. Let f ask you to a touchdown. He was terrific, but more than that he gave the entire F s U team. Uh, the entire Doak Campbell Stadium and really the entire nation. An emotional lift. I mean, he was a kid again. His his leg injury was so terrible. That his doctor from Tampa showed up at that game on Sunday night just to witness it, like the doctor couldn't believe it. All the doctor wanted to do and by the way, they were a team of doctors working on Mackenzie Milton that day in Tampa 2.5 years ago, but all they wanted to do was try to save the leg and hope. And hope on down the line that Mackenzie would be able to walk again. He's playing football. For FS you against the University of Notre Dame on opening night. It's just It's an amazing story. It really a Hollywood couldn't have even scripted this story. But what an incredible night for Mackenzie Milton and he's such a great kid. I wish him nothing but the best from here on out. Um, it was obvious to me at torrents. I know you watch the game. It was obvious to me who the better quarterback was of the two. It was Mackenzie Milton. But I think that coach Mike Norville wants to protect him from himself. He was He was, at times moving gingerly out there. And you, You don't know you don't want to be as a head Coach. You don't want to be responsible for something else happening to this kid. But He was the better quarterback of the two and the way you saw that line. That line was very porous throughout the game, And when you've got a quarterback like you said that you're still you want to protect. That's not necessarily. Maybe you don't want to have them start. I mean, I think he sees the potential. Certainly if you didn't before he does now. But it is interesting with all the leg talk that it ended up coming down to a leg. The leg of the kicker who is the field goal, right right this into another. Well, it's interesting because the F s U kicker. After the whistle had blown, kicked a 50 yard field goal and went through the uprights. And then they Isom for about five minutes. He comes back and Mrs Wide left from what, like 38 yards or something like that, so but look, F s U loses the game. I think they're going to be a lot better this year A and B. McKenzie. Milton is back, and it's just it's It's such a heartwarming story. You know, we're talking about that. That horrific story down in Polk County. This is the opposite way. Right. This is, um This is just an amazing story. This kid was going to lose his leg. I mean, multiple. He was in surgery. Multiple multiple hours. You've talked before about many divisive stories and sports. This is what great great story. That I think everybody could rally behind. What this guy's done what he's overcome. Yeah, it was interesting. Seeing after the game, all the Notre Dame players going up to Mackenzie Milton and hugging him. I mean, they they don't know him from Adam, obviously, but they know his story, and it's just It's an incredible story, and we wish him nothing but the best this year. I'm worried about Dan Mullins defense. Miami Damn Chris. That's a tough question, because I was kind of want to say you, CF. Um I'm going to say, you know, Golly, I just don't want to get caught like ah, I It's recent. It's recency bias. I want to say I'm going to end up saying I'm gonna end up still saying Florida state Miami. I'm still a little lukewarm on the coaching situation. I think that Think that the pressure that the alumni has put on the on the program has actually been bad for Miami. I think it's turned into kind of a toxic thing every year. Miami kind of needs and I and I wanted to actually save this, but it brings it right up now. Miami is a situation where I yell could be beautiful for it. I mean, you've had the Nevin Shapiro's and things like that have been the It's been kind of ugly for Miami. I get that. Manny Diaz is in his third year. You had a good season last season. I think we want so desperately to have Miami back. Miami needs a few years to be under the radar again. Don't know if they can because of the turnover chain. I don't know if they can because Michael Irvin's on TV all the time. I don't know if they can. I think that what I think they need and what they actually get are two different things. But the pressure that's on Miami is 10 fold in comparison to what they have. I still even taking Florida even though they're in SEC school at a former two time national champion during my well, three time technically national champion during my life And Florida State That's in a State of flux that I think Mike Norville is starting to Starting to legitimize. Think they're doing some healing right now, after the whole Jimbo Fisher, leaving them without a net. And not all that Jimbo Fisher took a better job. That's the way it works. But I think that that's bothered Florida State. I think that's hurt Florida State over the last few years, the whole situation that played out with Taggart has has really hurt Florida State. Norville really has to roll up his sleeves and get to work down there. The brand. I think it's still fresh, and we could see that last night on television. It's still a good brand. It's still brand that The father's resonate with its not dead, and I'm not talking about the program. I'm talking about the brand. It's not a dead pro. It's not a dead brand like what you have in Nebraska and what you have at Tennessee. Those are dead brands. Guys my age. Get excited about Nebraska. Their kids don't care. If if my sons were good at football, and we went to Nebraska and my sons had offers from Oregon. My sons had offers from Texas My sons had offers from Oklahoma. Nebraska doesn't hold a candle. They don't care. I may get excited about Tommie Frazier and Tom Osborne. My sons don't give a damn. I might get excited about Peyton Manning and I'll Wilson in Tennessee and Phil Fulmer. My sons don't give a damn They're dead brands. Florida state. If if near you had sons that and they were good at college football and had visits to Florida State. Your son can still get excited about Florida State. Bobby Bowden still resonates with me. Florida State still resonates with me. I think Jamis Winston could be an ugly thing I know, but I can still resonate. They've had recent success. 2013 wasn't that long ago. The brand is still there. The brand is still fresh. So Mike Norville can build off that can have success. That's a program that's willing to to put the funds in. They might not have exactly what some of the other ones do. But they store willing to put the funds in to make that a brilliant program again. It's just that it's been a little bit and I thought about this right after Tommy Bowden joins us. If Bobby Bond wasn't at Florida State, and Tommy Brown was at Clemson. Does Tommy Bowden do better. And they were a successful program while Tommy Bowden was there. They're just nowhere near what they have been with Davos, Sweeney. Abu sweetie took it to a different level, and I know he coached a little bit against him. I get that. But it's just nowhere near the category of what they are now. And with the A C. C. There's been room for one big dog on the block. There really hasn't been room for two. So if Florida State if Dubow either slips, which I don't know if he will, But if Davos slips or go somewhere else if he goes to Alabama of Saban retires or whatever. Think Mike Norville is in a plum spot again. Matt Brown is an older man is not going to be there forever. U N C. He might leave it in a better spot than where he found it. Certainly if I leave them with a better coach than where he found him, certainly will see Virginia Tech. I don't have a lot of long term. Faith in Justin Fuente. It was a good win. Competition is a good thing in any walk of life and competition. In the college football world. If you're a college football junkie Look, Game day has been the gold standard forever for on site on campus college football. Studio shows. That are there to hype up that particular venue that particular campus and convey great information and entertain you throughout the morning. I love that there's another one. Now. I loved it, and I think they do a really good job on Fox. I think there's really good chemistry between the former players. Brady Quinn, Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush. Bob Stoops. I've I've only seen a little bit of Bob Stoops on there. Obviously, he just joined them this year, but so far so good. I've always enjoyed Bob Stoops as a talker back when he was a coach. He seems like a fun dude off the field. I know enough for you people to tell me that they really like Bob Stoops. And I'm just as you can tell. I'm a big fan of Rob Stone. He's a good friend, So I think he does an amazing He doesn't amazing. Amazing job steering the ship, you know, you know, he does an amazing job steering the ship. Because Fox has been doing it for college football. They've got him doing it for soccer literally on back to back days. So I think it's moving in the right direction. I think similar to U C L A They play in a conference that I don't I won't say the EC is there for the taking because they have Clemson. The Pac 12 doesn't have a Clemson so that is there for the taking. But at least working your way back to where you're the other team. You're the team that Clemson has to worry about on the schedule like that's what that conference used to be. All roads lead to Clemson and Florida State every year. "They're back to being independent people. If you forgot last year they were in the A. C C was a covid year, a weird year. This year. They are back to being independent, but kinda have their toe in the water with the A. C. C. So if they win, it's a wash kind of in terms of the conference because they're still independent. But if Florida State wins, then you have another W for the conference. That's important for the CC as a whole it support for college football's the whole shape. Everybody needs Florida State to have a pulse again. I mean, that is one of the pillars of college football. Mark Norville is a proven great coach. He did it at Memphis. He hasn't proven himself in Florida State yet, but there is no bigger rebuild than what's going on there in Florida state for how bad it got during his Willy Taggert years if the wants to save any kind of face in what Let's be clear, has been a disastrous weekend. They need Notre Dame. They need Notre Dame to lose this game. They need Florida State to knock off a top 10 team and say, Hey, maybe it's not Clemson. Maybe it's not Carolina right now. Maybe it's not Miami, but Virginia Tech quietly is building in Florida State is quietly building would be good for balance. It is an immense ask of Mike Norville and Florida State and week one. The play like a champion sign that we had to hang last year before the college football playoff has not been busted out yet, But something tells me that it will be before dinner time. Florida State and Notre Dame are going at it tonight. Irish are favored by seven. Let's just call this what it is Florida State with two and six last season, Okay? Two and six. The last time we saw Andy was in the college football playoff yet Still, this feels kind of like a quote unquote marquee matchup, especially since the did not have a good showing over the weekend. So who's going to save face? Is it gonna be floated state or is it going to be Notre Dame who's like one toe is in the A. C C. Alright, let's lay this whole thing now, Okay, Irish or seven point favorites, which makes the Florida State Seminoles home dogs. Let's start with concerns for the Irish and this one. The Irish returned 55% of its production from a year ago. That is good for fifth worst returning production in all of the F B s. That's a concern another concern for the Irish five offensive lineman being replaced for that team. Big concern there. Also the first time the Irish are playing under center with a guy not named Ian Book in Jack Cone from Wisconsin who doesn't scream superstar to me. Another concern for the Irish the guy You never want to fight in the bar, the one with nothing to lose. That is Florida State. They're expected to lose this game. Another massive concern. It's on the road and oh, by the way, the legendary Bobby Bowden will be honored as he passed away within these last couple months, so emotions will be running high there in Tallahassee. Another massive concern here. So now that I've laid those out, let's talk about why we should like the Irish here and we start defensively. The Irish have been elite on the defensive side of things. Clark Lee has moved on to Vanderbilt insert Marcus Freeman, the best offensive coordinator in all of college football season ago who was running that defensive scheme is the coordinator defensively. For the bear Cats a year ago. He likes to run that 335 scheme. It's heavy on the blitz, getting away from what the Irish did in that 4 to 5 package a year ago, which means he's going to bring the heat early. And often pressure we've seen in the first weekend of college football has one you get to the quarterback, you'll have success Florida State's offensive line. Poorest Florida state is not acknowledge who their starting quarterback is going to be. This season is a Jordan Travis is that Mackenzie Milne? Either way they're going to be frenzied all game long, the most talented two players on the field in this game the running back for Notre Dame Kyron Williams, that offensive line. If it shows up, he can break a few big ones. They might only need two scores to win a game like this. Kyle Hamilton is the second most talented player. He, too, is in a Notre Dame uniform in that secondary. You win the turnover battle. You've got another great shot. Ultimately, it's Notre Dame. They've been established. They have pieces who would play in those big games? Florida state's heavy on transfers. It's a rebuild from Mike Norville. I expect chaos for that team. When it gets loud. I don't care if Notre Dame's a road team They played in these big games together, and they should go out there and be able to make things happen. Also for Jack Cone. If you get in those spots where it's turbulent, you don't have a lot of playmakers on the outside who are established, but you have one of the best tight into the country that people don't seem to know about yet. And Michel mayor. He should be that release valve to alleviate some of that pressure. If Notre Dame makes some of those big time plays with that backfield, that tight end and that defense carries its weight is they're expected to Notre Dame should not only when. Most importantly, the cornet household, Notre Dame should cover those seven points. That's what I was gonna ask you. Okay? I want to stay on something with Florida State here that you mentioned, but I feel like we should talk a little more about Florida State quarterback Mackenzie Milton could be making his return to the field tonight following an absolutely gruesome injury that he had in 2018 to his leg when he played at UCF. Before that injury Milton through for 8683 yards, he had 72 touchdowns and 22 interceptions from 2016 to 2018 with the nights he is listed as a co starter. As Jay said, We don't know who's starting at for Florida State on the depth chart along with Jordan, Travis, We don't know what Mackenzie Milton could be. Should he start right tonight for spent three years it's been a long time. I mean, People come and go through college and the amount of time that he has spent at these two schools. And so that surprise factor of whom Mackenzie Mountain could be. I laid out the numbers here. He was a very good quarterback when he was healthy. He's one of the best in the country. What does that mean for Notre Dame, though in their defense like you better be on your toes? You don't know who's going to start Nick McKenzie millions in there. You really don't know what's making your looking at tape from three years ago, but ultimately early on in the college football season to all my people who enjoy the game of chance out there. You always want to look up front in the trenches. Who can win in the trenches. Well, Notre Dame is offensive line you whether it's their retooling an entire offense line. That's fine. Florida State's offensive line has been horrible the last few seasons, and there's no reason to be certain that it should take a turn in this one so of Notre Dame with their defensive coordinator, Marcus Freeman, applies that pressure. McKenzie Milton, a guy who hasn't played in three years. It's not nearly as mobile as he used to be, could have issue Then you look at Jordan Travis, who is the more mobile of the two Florida state quarterback. He may be able to evade some of that pressure, step up, make plays with his feet or find an open target if I'm Florida State, knowing what those two quarterbacks present I'm Mike. Normal. I'm using a healthy dose of both to try and disrupt with Marcus Freeman's defense because he's going to try to do for the Irish. Okay, So let's look at this from a bigger perspective, because we've talked a lot about the A. C. C and their struggles and opening weekend. The only 11 W we have is from Virginia Tech who beat North Carolina, which was an A C C, T. And so again, we know what Notre Dame is..

Part of that matchup in Georgia will have a much harder strength of schedule, although their schedule is a little bit easier this year, the normal years. Than than what Clemson has, because no one is really a contender over the A. C C. I say that because this would be a perfect year. If Notre Dame was still a member of the the they are not. They're independent. Taken on FS you. What do we expect in these two teams will be on the sideline tonight with Joe tests and Greg McElroy on the call. Yeah, I'm hoping for a really great game right? Because we didn't necessarily get that from Alabama and Miami. Just given how dominant Alabama was, we didn't necessarily get that. Last night from Georgia and Clemson. Even though you know it did kind of come down to the wire in a situation where you know Clemson had a chance to score and tie things up. Um, I hope this is a back and forth game, but right now You know everything kind of points in the favor of Notre Dame. They did lose a lot of production on both sides. But they're kind of at this point, and I wouldn't put him on a level of Alabama where People move on. And you replenish with an A plus or or an A, um, caliber guy, you know, But they're at a point where there is not this drop off where they have to quickly try to develop somebody to replace NFL draft pick or somebody who was a four year starter there at this point where Since they've made it to a couple. You know, they made it to a playoff. They've won in a tight on. Um they've done different things and had success and, you know, recent years The caliber of recruit going to Notre Dame has also improved, and so they feel like they're at a point where they're replenishing better than they have in the past, and don't really excited to see. These guys go out there. Obviously, it's been a while since we've seen Jack Cone. They feel really great about Jack Cone. Um, I'm excited to see the way that he handles himself. It's been a while since peace life right, displayed at a high level play for a big 10 championship. Played in a Rose Bowl before, um One a lot of games back in 2019, so I'm excited to see how he leads this group. Kyra Williams obviously is the workhorse. He's the heartbeat of this team. I think he's primed to have another incredible season for this offense. And then Kyle Hamilton is just an absolute freak. On the other side. He's right now Projected top 10 pick maybe even a top five pick as a safety just because he's kind of this unicorn with his thighs and how ranger he is, so I'm really excited just to see Notre Dame. In their first game, how they fill in some of the holes that they're missing from a season ago and then for Florida State. We got to go to practice yesterday. And guys, I gotta be honest. They look a lot better than they did a year ago. Now. Is that enough? Don't know when they go out and face Notre Dame tonight, but they have made great strides. The real question is which quarterback are they going to trot out there for the first series? Jordan. Travis has made great improvements just in terms of his confidence level. Um, this is a kid who told me you know, a year ago before Mike Norville got there that he was in such a dark place. He didn't feel like he could throw the ball five yards. That's how mentally messed up. He was from his time at Louisville and his first year with Willie Taggart. Mike Marvelous crew comes in really kind of saved. This kid pulls amount to start place and just rebuild him. From the ground up fundamentally, and from a confident standpoint mentally as well. And so he's in a really great place. Of course. Mackenzie Milton the storyline um you know, are right there for taking if he plays so We're ready for that. It's just I don't know if Florida State has improved the point that they can really take over a team like Notre Dame. Katie George here. About a minute left here. You mentioned Makenzie Melton. But nearly three years since he suffered that looked like a catastrophic career, even life threatening injury at that point, it really challenging deal That was November of 2018. So three years later. Essentially, we have a chance to see him tonight. Whether or not he starts. I don't know if he's going to play. I would anticipate he does. But what do we anticipate seeing from Milton here in this offense? I saw him play in the spring game. Um The kid can thread a needle. I mean, he is an accurate, accurate passer. Obviously he's a winner. He knows what it takes to win at a high level. I don't know physically if he's going to ever be the same as what we saw from his days at U C F, uh but This is a guy who brings a lot of experience. He understands the game and has incredible vision. I think that's where it can be. Milton kind of separates himself from the other. Q. B s on this roster. But when you look at Jordan Travis, he has so much upside because of his playmaking ability, so they might feel more comfortable going that route, but to your point whether he starts or whether he doesn't if he takes a snap in this live game. This is a kid. They were hoping they didn't have to amputate his leg. They hope that maybe they could save the leg and he could walk again without pain. And he could possibly play and a live FBS football game tonight like that has to be one of the greatest sports come back, not in college football history. But in sports history ever so Don't know if it happens, but I'm hopeful If he runs out there, it's going to be an incredible moment for him his family about 70 people family members, friends from Hawaii's surgeon from the Mayo Clinic is going to be there as well. Just a really cool scene at Doak Campbell Mackenzie Mountain gets on the field shades of Alex Smith and him coming back after that horrific injury, And one of the reasons why to watch also cannot wait to see It's obviously the first game since the passing of the legend, Bobby Bowden. "Well, they want to win that game. They need him on the field, and you know he was in a walking boot was 100%. That's something that's going to get talked about all week, as you saw early in that game, the hit he had on the Fresno State quarterback and able to Create that havoc and Ohio State you know they they struggled at times against Minnesota, but the big play potential is Ridiculous in that offense with the receivers with freshman running back Trayvon Henderson and CJ Stroud once he got warmed up and kept it simple. We were just talking about this. Florida State's problem has been where the pros There was a time where you you like like Miami. Five or six guys on the field, You know they go in the NFL. You see that in Alabama? I think you saw it last night with Georgia there, five or six guys going NFL next year. Where is that with Florida State? So if Mike Norville in year two has not quite gotten there, and you feel like Notre Dame is just a better team, and we're gonna find out. I think they are, too. I'm not fearing you should be fearing. I don't think is going to be a blowout like that. At least it shouldn't be. And if it is Then you gotta look at Mike Novell and say, what are you doing down there? But there's there's questions on both sides of the ball for the Seminoles. And that's that's part of the problem. So you know you've got about Kyle Hamilton, who is a preseason all American safety for Notre Dame. He's causing havoc. And speaking of the NFL. He's going to be in the NFL. And we can talk about all the things Cam Newton did and didn't do but the end of the day. Matt Jones is getting the start. So this is this is a very unique situation. That we're seeing the guy That's not starting that I thought should be starting. Is Justin Fields, and I want you to hear Ryan pace talk about there's no reason to go away from their plan with Justin Fields. Pace is the general manager. Listen to this. We haven't really got started the regular season yet, So our plan is, you know. And these are starter and we're rolling with that, you know, And I don't think anything is deviated from that as we've gone forward, we guys we like that room for 1 to 3. When I think about Andy and Justin and Nick. I mean, that's that's a strong room from 1 to 3. I think a lot of teams we want to have that. Yeah, but isn't it? Aren't you supposed to play your best players? Brian I mean, listen, the fans are clamoring in Chicago. To see fields and I've told you guys this. I know the family I I get it. Justin is respectful in the way that quarterback should be. He's fighting for a job. But he's also saying Don't do my man, Andy Dalton. We're all trying to all trying to win out here. But the reality is, is he the better talent? Is he dominating? Practice? The way he should be That part? I don't know. But it seems like they went into this with the plan regardless of what he was going to do. Ryan Pace also said We don't need to rush this. I just feel like we're dealing. We're just in a good position with with Andy. You know, like like it starts with how we how we feel about Andy, and we're very confident in him. Where he's at, so there's no need for us to Russia, Justin Mhm. So how long I'm not saying it's a bad plan. Because we've seen quarterbacks start And get demolished and the careers take a right turn. And it's never the same. We've also seen quarterbacks come in start. And do exactly what we thought they would do. But I just think that he's had more of those electric plays in the preseason. And he's giving you flashes as I like to talk about where you go. Who So it's got fans excited. He's not starting These others. The other These other guys are Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson and Matt Jones. First time since 1950. You're starting three or more rookies. Ryan Pace also talked about his confidence in Andy Dalton. We feel and he's in a good place to you know, I mean, so it would be different if if we didn't feel that way we saw and he's in a good spot to we're confident in the Indian. There's there's a lot of things and with Andy, I know we've talked about it before, but His experience. He's won a lot of games in this league, his decision making his intangibles as leadership, all the things that he's doing. There's so many veteran players that have come up to me and made comments about Andy Dalton and what he's doing in practices in the locker room in the huddle all those little things that I think We're going to see payoff as we get into the season, so it's it's more about Andy right now. We're excited about Justin. We're I'm more excited than anybody. But we're just going to let this thing play out. All right. Okay, Ryan, I'm just gonna I got to take your word for it. Your team. I don't like it, but it's your team. And they're not deviating from the plan, which means Andy Dalton has to basically implode for Justin to get a shot. Maybe this is the plan that works. Maybe three years from now we're saying, you know what? Wow, look, look, the wait and see with Justin was the perfect plan. But a lot of people don't think it is. As you finish up. Everybody's having a good Thursday as we move into the Browns here teeth now there's gonna be some clowns out there and that's just what they are. They are unmitigated on abashed clowns. If they subscribe to this mindset of ridiculing the browns or marginalizing their season the totality of their accomplishments if they were to if they were to lay an egg. Sunday in Pittsburgh. Let's just lay this out in very clear terms. First of all, they snap the longest playoff drought in NFL in league in current, You know, in the late 17 years, it's been a long time. The head coach. Can't coach Duke over the protocols. They have not been in the building for basically five days due to those same covert protocols, they will not be able to practice. Again before they actually come out of the field on Sunday to play this at, you know, to play the Steelers. They will They lost five games this year. One of which was a five point game to the Ravens, who are terrific franchises. We know the other. They lost the Jets when they dressed, you know, four guys. Nobody even heard off and they had no wide receivers. I do you want to say? Maybe they could still found a way to run the ball. Maybe, but they had to walk through in the MetLife parking lot the morning of the game because they had all sorts of covert issues at the facility. I don't care if they lose 32 3, which by the way, they will not. This is an absolute success for the Browns. No matter what. Well, I think you're you're absolutely right. But at this point in the season, nobody wants to hear about the regular season successes. They want to keep getting them game, Jax, which is every other every week, you get a bigger, higher number. With the game checks for being in the postseason. That's from a player's standpoint, but from a fan standpoint, fans should be thrilled by what they've seen because they have the right coach right. Think of how long it's been since the Browns could save. Yep. This is our guy. We feel we feel really good about this guy, and it's been a while This temple is shoddy. Uh, yeah, Probably. They have talent on both sides of the football. This is a success for the Browns. And even if they lose this game, France should say At least we have an excuse. You ought to read. It is gonna be odd, though This is for this game to see. This is the first time we've seen it in the NFL, where the head coach is not available. We saw it a few times. In college. There was a few Mike Norville from Florida State. He was unavailable for games, a few others that you know, and it's and it showed itself and how difficult that is to do, but without their head coach who is their primary play caller. That puts a little bit of a damper on this now. Alex Kelly can do it. Obviously because he's the co whatever he's the co offensive mind over there, But just like Mike Priefer, their head coach is the first time doing it and the playoff Cabe. So I just worry about, you know, consistent and see and continuity, not to mention all the things that you just said bt they not practicing. Um So I'm gonna get ready for one of the toughest teams in the A F. C by not practicing. And not only is that obviously leading to some staleness, uh, you would imagine on the part of the players, but at least Not that you could truly replicate what will happen on Sunday night against your heated rival. But at least you know, I mean, for a coach is being thrust into a very unenviable position might not be the worst thing in the world to to blow the whistle a few times in practice as the guy here practice here, you a couple of facts of the case before I gotta face Randy Johnson, Jesus's. It's not gonna be easy. Monitoring. You make sure that it's all on the up and up. But the mean can you imagine if it was wasn't just stuff and ski? What if it was so fast key? And then Alex been Pelt was, you know, contact traced and, you know, three other coaches and all of a sudden you got your quality control Coach is your head coach and You know you get you're trying to go with a playoff game. Colin Kevin Costner? Yeah, right about being co manage. I'm surprised that they didn't do this with all the sports but particularly the NFL. They should have, you know, And it's funny that that is not a point That's really been hammered home really out of necessity. It hasn't has a bit of central theme this year because for the most part You go first when they played every game on and we've managed to avert disaster, But they should have had a protocol on this. What we talked about having planned a B, C D and so on and so forth, Like you've got to look down the road. How could Where was the foresight and it was shouldn't really require that much brain power. I don't think it is for somebody think about what we're doing. We're doing our We've done our show on TV. Yeah, basically, ever since we left the studio. No, I trust me. I'm well aware, but this should have been broached by the league office before the season started. Hey, guys in the event if we're lucky enough to finish the season Uninterrupted play 16 games 17 weeks not enact the 18th week. Whatever, and we get to a point and it's playoff time and a head coach comes down with it or he's exposed to it. His contract tracing you can't come to the stadium. We need to have a situation in place where we can send somebody to his house. Okay, messed up. But it has Matsuda on him if you want. I'm serious. I'm not being flippant do that. Have him across the room and have some sort of technology set up. What's so hard about that? I don't think there isn't anything hard about that is actually I mean, you can get direct feeds such a percent, so there's no late and see in the feed. You're basically in real time. And it's all right. It's not like he needs to be able to call every play and do everything. He just needs to be able to communicate. Yes, you know, with the assistance. Alabama coach Nick Saban and athletic director Greg Byrne test positive for COVID-19
"Nick Saban, the head football coach at Alabama has tested positive for covert 19 what we know right now, J. We know that he says he found out earlier this afternoon and in a statement that the school released earlier today, he says that he is asymptomatic. So we found out went home immediately. He is working from home and offensive coordinator Steve Sarkeesian will oversee preparations at the complex. As he says In that statement, Also the athletic director of the University of Alabama Greg Burn, says he has tested positive today as well. He tested positive this morning. He He says that he wanted to self isolation immediately. We've been diligent about mask worrying and social distancing from the start and want to continue to encourage you all to take the necessary precautions to help stop the spread of the virus for yourself and those around you. So this is the first coach in the SEC to get it, especially this close to a game and face use. Mike Norville also had it earlier this year. But they played the game without him. So we'll see if that's what happens between Georgia, Alabama, but right now still scheduled for eight o'clock
