"Games Marilyn are Denver fan dot com joins us courtesy of old Chicago pizza and taproom game day as that at old Chicago. Did I see you refer to this as the worst win in Broncos history? Yes. Now that may be a little bit hyperbolic. You know. Caught up in the moment, but in all honesty, I'm trying to think back and you know I had some people respond on Twitter with some good recommendations and there was the win in Kansas City when Tim Tebow completed two passes. Maybe that qualifies, but yeah, it was an ugly performance all around. It was a game that if you're playing anyone other than Houston, you probably lose almost assuredly lose. So yeah, it was a win and at the end of the year, you know, maybe we won't remember exactly how they got this W but the day of and the day after, I think it would be, we'd be remiss if we didn't pay attention to how it looked. What is the situation or what is the story and your imagination with Nathaniel Hackett and this offense, I don't know, not being able to get a play in on time. The delay games just the whole mismanagement of the game. Yeah, it's shocking. I think it was the story of the game and it was, you know, the delay games, the indecisions, the lack of a process, they just looked like a bunch of people who were doing it for the first time. And that was my biggest concern about this coaching staff as it reminded me of 2010 with Josh McDaniels staff that year when everybody, especially in the high positions, the head coach and the coordinators, it was the first time they had done it once they got rid of Mike Nolan after O 9, then it was a bunch of newbies and doesn't mean they can't do the job or won't be able to do the job eventually. But it does mean that, you know, out of the gate, there's going to be some growing pains, and there's nobody there really to kind of help them along to some extent. So it's a mess. I just, it's something that you don't see it in middle school games. You don't see in high school games, college games, so to see it on the NFL level, it's just absurd. And I thought Broncos fans hit the nail on the head with what I'm calling their Bronx cheer when they were counting down the play clock. That sends a message, right? It's sarcastic. It's basically they were trolling the head coach and saying, hey, well, if you can't do it and you can't see the big clock in the end zone that's counting down, we'll help you out here, coach. I thought they'd send a message that this isn't, this isn't going to fly in Broncos country. Been to a James Marilyn. Okay, so were Bronco fans a to mean with their booing and B to sarcastic and unfair with their counting down of the play clock. I don't think either one of them and, you know, it's just, they're tired of bad football. And to some extent, is Nathaniel Hackett paying for the sins of Vance Joseph and Vic Fangio, probably, but that's the situation Nathaniel Hackett walked into. And when you're replacing a guy who wasn't successful, and one of the main criticisms of him was how he managed games, that's the number one thing you probably gotta get right. And you've been worse and the other part of it was, hey, this offense was bad. And the pat Shermer and it was just dreadful to watch. You get Russell Wilson in your averaging 16 points a game through two games and you have to resort to gadget place to try to move the ball, I think it's very fair. People are fed up with it. They're tired of it. And they're not going to continue to shell out big time money to go watch that kind of product. I don't blame them one bit. James, so let me get this straight. 64 yarder at lumen field where the longest field goal ever kicked was 56 is a great plan, but a delay a game going from 54 to 59 is a no go and you got a punt, right? That's logic, right? Well, the other funny part about it stink is the 64 yarder, McManus kicked it. There was the time out and he missed it, right? So Hackett saw him miss it and still kicked it. Yesterday, McManus kicked the 54 yarder and it was right down Broadway and would have been good from 65 and he decides, no, we better punt it. It's just the decision making and the logic just of this head coach in this coaching staff just makes absolutely no sense. The other part of it and this is part of why I think the fans are acted the way they did yesterday. There has been an arrogance from this coaching staff from Nathaniel Hackett saying, you're not going to be nervous. It's just a game. I mean, I've coached a ton of games to Justin out and coming out and have it as Marty McFly reference and refusing to answer questions for even though it's the first time anybody's been able to ask him questions about the biggest play in the season opener. And I think people reacted to that rightfully so. Does Russell Wilson deserve more blame for what we've seen in the first two weeks? I think he's getting his fair share. I mean, I do think the bouge yesterday were for Nathaniel Hackett and then the team. I don't think they were directed at Russell Wilson. I think he's getting some of the criticism though. Yesterday was a bit of a mess once Jerry Judy went out and you're looking around and I was like, okay, well it's Tyree Cleveland and Kendall Hinton and you know it's the guys he was working with. It was a bit of a hodgepodge. I think he's throwing the ball well, but guys he can't move at all. I mean, his lack of mobility is just, that's a big time concern. I mean, I watch that game yesterday, where Russell Wilson can't escape anything. I mean, before the field goal that they kick to make it 16 to 9 when he took a sack trying to scramble to the left and he just fell down and tripped over the hash marks was an embarrassing play. You watch that and then you watch 39 year old Aaron Rodgers just run around the field like a kid. It's night and day. So I think he deserves some of that criticism and I think those of us who tried to point out today Russell looks a little, you know, a little hefty and all these travel pictures during the off season and got accused of body shaming the guy. No, he runs around like a guy who spent most of his off season on a private jet. That's what he looks like. Okay, well, it was a win, and as ugly as it was, how would you like to be in Vegas right now? I would like to be in Cincinnati right now. How would you like to be an indie right now where Matt Ryan looks like he's toast? Done. I think that's a really good point in good perspective, Mike of, yeah, it's bad and they're one and one and we're frustrated, but honestly they should be too and oh, they should have won the opener. So it could certainly be worse and I do think they're going to get it corrected because all of the problems we saw yesterday other than Russell Wilson's mobility. All the problems we saw yesterday are fixable. I'm going to stick with my, they're going to be 7 and one coming home from London pick. But the Jimmy G news certainly was a curve ball. But look, there are things to be excited about. I do think this defense is legit. Bradley Chubb was great in week one, Randy Gregory was great yesterday. So if you're looking for some positives, looks at the idro Eros group, they've been sensational the last 6 quarters. All right, James, thank you. Appreciate it, guys. "Whose defense was atrocious last night. Now they made a couple of plays here and there tonight in demarcus lawrence looked a lot better than he did last year so some positive strides but big picture over the next sixteen games. And i think it's fair to say the cowboys are gonna be competitive. Their offense is to dynamic zeke. We'll get going. They're passing games to their. If stays healthy. They're going to be awesome on offense but defensively. Dan quinn's defenses and he was. He got played the ceo role in atlanta but defense is worth terrible in atlanta. And he's defensive guy so now he comes dallas and he's in charge of the defenses. How's he gonna fix this. Like how are they going to be just solid on defense. We've seen him run defenses and since he was part of. I don't know one of the greatest units of all time with l. p. carol in their peak heyday way back in the day. I don't know. I don't know if he can do it to be completely honest with you. I would bet against them. He's not mike nolan. Mike nolan was a tros. I mean my mom could've told you that the moment he got hired. This is not going to work. I think this is functional. Like they're going to be a little bit better than last year. But i don't see them being you know if if they missed the playoffs this year. It'll be one hundred percent because of his unit and back to the head. Coach mccarthy knows nothing about right. Here's the thing about arians aaron's always runs a physical operation even though he's a pass first coach think of teams in arizona. They were a bad ass physical team. Because you meet it you just listen areas talk you go. This guy's certified that as this guy. This guy is crazy. Sob and his team. Kind of have that. In a buttoned up way mccarthy kind of a pass happy guy too but teams historically are pretty soft like one of the big downfalls of green bay all those years one. He knew nothing about defense and to his offensive. Philosophies steam was just kind of soft. So we'll just something to keep an eye on though definitely more bullish on dallas dak prescott you know. I don't know forever. Be a top five quarterback but you could see tonight like you can win with them now. You have to have a good defense. The run game will have to get going against lesser teams but their offense is going to be really good starts with him in those wide receivers and ultimately what a comeback for the nfl. Thank god they're back. That was a fun night. I don't need that much offense all the time. I like some physical defensive play. But i'm not gonna complain here. That was very entertaining. Jing aaron rodgers on. He's got great here right now. As someone who is follicly-challenged i would only come back if i had the incredible flow pat. Riley style where you could like you know use the wax or whatever the spray and just go completely straight back. Michael douglas in wall street. That's a fantastic. And roger has gone right now. It's i'm jealous..

"Fair enough. One of the biggest problems, the Cowboys said last year was certainly on the defensive side of the ball, and they got beat up in the passing game. A lot. Uh, are they good enough to safety position? I expect Trayvon digs have a better year this year and and Anthony Brown I don't think can be okay. But the safety position was a major letdown last year. How much have they upgraded? It? Is it going to be able to show on the field that not every team is going to be able to throw it wild against the Cowboys this year. I'm not ready to say that it's like fix, but I do feel better about it than I have in a number of years. You know, they signed the Monte Casey, who was coming off of an Achilles. They find Malik Hooker as well. Two guys that have had Really nice seasons in the NFL. Casey had a seven interception season in Atlanta, and they both seem to have recovered from their Achilles injuries. Really Well, um, then throw in Donovan Wilson, who kind of had a breakout year last year and Giron curse as well. I think all four of those guys Can make meaningful contributions. Um Am I ready to say that any of them are like Pro bowl caliber? Not really. And you know if I'm being honest, I still expect that secondary to be a problem for them. But what we saw from those guys in training camp, particularly KZ. I thought he was really disruptive. He was around the football a lot made a lot of plays on the ball. Uh, you know, maybe maybe they get more production and more takeaways than we're used to. And that would at least be a step in the right direction, even if they're not amazing. Now. One of the things that they had to deal with in the preseason was last week. Then Quinn going on the covid list and not being able to be in the boot defense coordinator for their preseason game. Um, how much has he changed things here? It didn't work last year. Did he come in and just wipe the slate clean or there's some things that they're going to do that they liked. From last year that they're trying to keep in place. We know they made some personnel changes. But how much is Quinn's different defense different than what they played last season? I think honestly, that was one of the selling points of why they hired him is that it would be something that would be more familiar to this team. They've definitely There's definitely a focus on being multiple, and that's what they wanted from Mike Nolan. But you know, the the company line coming from them is that you know with Nolan. Maybe they tried to do too much in too short of a period of time. You know, during a pandemic where you can't be on the field and all that type of stuff. They basically bit off more than they could chew. I think the compromise with Quinn is He still brings some of those elements to the table. You know, we've seen a lot of multiple fronts, a lot of disguise and things like that. But at the same time, this is a guy who cut his teeth in that Seattle cover three defense that everybody loved so much. And the Cowboys ran pretty successfully for a couple years with Rod Marinelli and Crystal shards. So the vast majority of the veterans on the team should be very familiar with what Dan Quinn's asking him to do, and You know, Can I say right now that it's going to translate, especially against an offense as good as Tampa? Probably not, But I will say they look a lot more confident this year than they did at this time last year. All right. Uh, it seems to me like I'm count them up right here. How many draftees from this past draft that they have on the defense said they looking at seven graft these that are going to make this defense and beyond the roster opening week that tells me one of two things either. They had a whole A cious Lee good draft. Or they admit we were that bad that we have to turn this over rather drastically. How many of the first year Cowboys are going to be able to do something We know Michael Parsons, but above and beyond that, how many going to step in and contribute to this defense and its improvement? I think I think it's a little bit of both. You're absolutely right. I mean, teams are always going to protect their draft class because they're banking on those guys to be stars and they're playing on affordable salaries. At the same time. This was a defense that needed a lot of change. And you know, the front office sent a very clear signal to the roster during the draft. They drafted 11 guys and nine of them played defense. And I think the first Think the first five or six picks were all defensive players. Micah Parsons is obviously he looks like a stud. I think he's going to start. You know he's going to play every snap as long as he's healthy. Then it is interesting, though, because two of those guys are cornerbacks. One of whom Kelvin Joseph is on IR for the short term, So maybe it takes them a little bit to get acclimated. But the third round defensive tackle also Digi do a. He's probably going to start because of injuries. Quentin Bo Hannah's another defensive tackle who had a really nice camp and then I don't know how they get him on the field because there's so many linebackers on the team, but Gabriel Cox out of LSU had a really fantastic preseason as well. Yeah, I think it's not a stretch to say that as many as four or five of these guys could have significant roles right away. Exactly. Alright. Uh, I've been dutifully watching hard knocks. Does it have any effect on the team? We were sitting at home watching it either enjoying it. A getting picked off by hired, however, were reacting to it. We're not part of we're not in the mix. Did the cowboy players talking about it at all? Do you guys ask him about it all? Is it Part of this preparation, or is it what they hope that it is? It's just a couple of cameras there that nobody pays any attention to. We get to look behind the curtain. I mean, they definitely know about it, and we asked him about it. You know, we talked to Dak on Friday and asked him, I think the most recent episode, he was kind of talking about a business model for a tailgate game he wanted to make, and he was kind of. He was kind of amused that that made it the National T V. Um, so they know about it. I thought Mike McCarthy made a really honest point the other day that It's a challenge because you're probably not going to be completely as authentic as you would be. If there weren't cameras in every room, you know, even it's supposed to be a behind the scenes show, but everybody knows the cameras are there. You're probably not going to say what you would normally say if you weren't being televised or or maybe some people kind of ham it up to be more interesting for T V, So I do think there's an element of it to that..

"Your right. But it's nice for the Cowboys that the majority of those are depth. Guys. I think the one that stands out is probably Neville Gallimore. Uh, He was going to be there. Starting three technique defensive tackle. He hyper extended his elbow halfway through training camp. So doubt they'll see him till October, but I think and and credit to them. It's a smart thing to do. I think the Cowboys and plenty of other teams You know the rule changes because of covid have allowed you to do a lot of things differently. You know, Typically you put a guy on IR You only get to that you can bring back to the roster. Otherwise you're done for the year. With the way things are because of Covid. It's a three week window and you can bring you can move guys back and forth as much as you want. So rather than in the guys season, you can say all right, you know, why don't you take September to get right and we'll bring you back in October, so The vast majority of those situations are not major. Fair enough. One of the biggest problems the Cowboys had last year was certainly on the defensive side of the ball, and they got beat up in the passing game. A lot. "Brady out in so many different situations and how he's done an excellent job finding them when they're open in a timely manner. I think giovanni bernard is going to be excellent in that role. And i also think tom brady is going to really be able to find a way to carve this defense up now. I'll say this about the dallas cowboys. Defense mike nolan is no longer there. Mike nolan that defensive coach who was best buddies with mike mccarthy had a defense in two thousand twenty that ranked twenty second in yards allowed twenty eighth in points allowed and also ranked twenty eighth and third down conversions per game. Defense couldn't get off the that couldn't. Xq run fits it to save their life. Their gap integrity was a mess. You could just run on them all day and actually had solid players. I think the divas blind could have been a little bit stronger specifically at the defensive tackle position but it was just a mess from a coaching standpoint. You knew magnolia was gonna be the fall guy he was. And then mccarthy was able to bring in. Dan quinn and quinn is a very very talented coach. Eve's only a few years removed from leading the atlanta falcons to the super bowl where they lost twenty eight to three game to tom brady. So you know. There's some sorry dan. Quinn probably has nightmares about tom. Brady if we're going to be honest. Dan quinn also from moorestown new jersey. Shout out moorestown new jersey. But he's a very well. Respected coach comes from the seattle seahawks tree. Lot of cover three type of defenses. Lot of zone defense. Now we snow that. Dan quinn when he was. The coach of the falcons got the play. The buccaneers twice last year. Both were losses for the falcons. But the buccaneers were much better team. But in those games against those defenses brady threw for seven hundred. Eighty nine yards six touchdowns and one interception in those games. Now that's that's pretty solid stats right there. But i'm willing to say the cowboys defense. Maybe better personnel wise. And i know their defense is in great. But i think they're better personnel. Wise in the falcons where last year's especially when you think about the fact that they got. Mike parsons to kind of lead. That defense i still have late in van der actually still have jalen smith they still have demarcus lawrence. I think trevan digs is probably going to take another step forward in his development entering year two. But even with all that said i think brady can carve defense up which it's not going to a great for the dallas cowboys which sure a lot of giant fans are looking forward to but i think dan quinn is going to be good for this defense. Throughout the season. I think he's going to bring a lot to this defense and help stabilize it and it won't be as much of a mockery as it was last year all right before we get into some more news. Let's take a quick break here. Award from our sponsors..

"What are you hearing about their approach heading into their week. One matchup with tampa bay. It's interesting they're starting quarterback hasn't played since suffering a season ending injury nearly eleven months ago the former two time. Nfl rushing champion. Hasn't taken a single hand off. This preseason and their most accomplished pass rusher hasn't played. it's an interesting contrast between mike mccarthy's conservative approach emphasizing protecting dak prescott. And the other. Starters and bruce arians playing guys as close to week one as possible in fact threatening them with extended snaps. That didn't perform well. While the cowboys held out there top thirty seven players the final week of the preseason. Three of the starting quarterback for the team has played the nfc and afc championship games. Last year's played in the preseason the exception of course being aaron rodgers before he strained his shoulder in this first competitive practice padded practice of training camp and missed a month of throwing dak prescott spoke about his desire to play in the preseason. You know he's need to get hit in the pre season for the first time have defenders around his legs as he threw passes to make the decision on whether to run and how to protect himself. And now he's going to go into the tampa bay game he would have been exposed to a crowd. He the game speed. I think we'll be in question for him you know. Meanwhile tom brady. The most successful quarterback in the history of the league played five series twenty-one snaps and through sixteen passes in the preseason so one quarterbacks a whole lot more prepared for this week one game the other absolutely and i want to sort of bookmark that we're gonna come back to the deck of it all in a moment but of course the offense is not really what most people are concerned about in dallas. Everyone is talking about the defense and they draft. Mike parsons and they bring in dan quinn as their new defensive coordinator. What if anything have we been able to figure out about how much better they could be. Well it'd be hard to imagine. They're going to be any worse than last year. Mike nolan was the worst offensive season in sixty years of cowboys. Football and it resulted. Mike mccarthy having to fire mike nolan after just one season and i think mike mike mike mccarthy has to be right about dan quinn. I think that this is what's going to determine. The success of the franchise going forward and the future of mike mccarthy as cowboys head coach. You're right. They made a big investment in defense there. I six picks were on the defensive side of the ball to create new defensive opportunities per dan. Quinn who's been emphasizes flexibility and speed and lengthened so athletically. I think the cowboys are a lot different teams. Mike parsons you mentioned the rookie. Dan quinn can't come up with enough different ways to use him. He takes with the path. Rushers marc lawrence randy gregory. Who's going to have much different more extended role in the defense this year. I think you know greenie. The big concern has to be inside on the defensive line. They lost neville gallimore guy that they're really hoping is going to take a big leap. It is second pro season. They gave up two of the three biggest single game rushing totals last year if they could control the run enforce opponent passing situations. I think they'll be able to rush the passer. We will wait and see it so it was so great to have you with all of your insight. Thank you for getting up early today. And we'll see you as we work our way towards kickoff next thursday night. Meanwhile let me bring the rest of the squad back in here and marcus. I always immediately come to you when it comes to the cowboys. Because we've done all of our joking. I've made all my jokes about july and august being months and everything else. Where'd you just heard ed talking about the approach taken. They didn't basically involve themselves in this. Preseason in tampa bay did and dak hasn't seen any action as we talked about since last year. What impact do you expect that to have. In their game. Thursday night against tampa. I expected to be some rush g from the dallas cowboys and one in the. Nfl is so tricky because a few plays a need and auto knows this. You go back and look at film usually after week one. And it's the team that made the most mistakes that lost a game. And when you don't have that report and you haven't been able to practice and get that time down get the continuity now and that is what the preseason this four. That's why. I was so impressive of these young guys that played well last year. Because it's difficult to do that. Man is difficult not to have that time and going to feel that have success. That's why we all going crazy about justin herber. But here's the thing. I'm confident in. I'm confident in the fact that dak prescott still killing them more. I'm confident in effect there. Tara smith allow colleges zack. Martin is going to be back. I'm confident in the fact. That zeke elliott in great shape and ready to reassert himself as one of the top banks in this league. The defense is it's enough to worry about already. Do you cena's damn tampa bay roster and the guys that they have.

"This. Thursday on riled up will join us from oxnard california. Tom has been out. There have been doing a great job giving us some coverage over at the site five. Pm central time on the blog of the boys youtube channel. Be there or be square circle. B triangular trapezoidal. Whatever you want something. We did not mention on mondays flight. Here on the ocho our first flight back here for the two thousand twenty. One season that i find to be interesting. Dan quinn said recently dallas. Cowboys defensive corner. Dan quinn that he will be calling games calling the defense that is from the booth. I think that's interesting. Because mike nolan started out in the booth. Last season did not go. Well so mike nolan. Skedaddle down to the sideline and it still did not go well. Rod marinelli was sidelined. Dude so i mean. There's pros and cons but dan quinn. Wants to be in the booth and you know what i trust me. Some dan quayle so this just quickly. This is really big. nfl news there is a cowboys. Twist to it if you care. It's really likely that you saw the indianapolis colts quarterback carson wentz is undergoing foot surgery and is likely to miss five to twelve weeks. I don't know how you can have that wide of range but still five the twelve weeks. We did discuss this by the way on the espionage. Nfl show on monday. Football monday myself and chris blackstone from stampede blue. If you wanna go listen over there the reason this is pertinent and the cowboys when the philadelphia eagles traded the quarterback that they said they loved more than dak prescott to the indianapolis colts. This off season. There was a contingency attached to wins in the trade. He must play seventy percent of all snaps for the colts at quarterback. The season or seventy five percent of the cult's do not make the playoffs in order for philadelphia to get indianapolis first round. Pick in two thousand twenty two if that criteria is not met that pick becomes a second rounder going from the colts to the eagles. It seems really likely in my own personal opinion that it's probably going to be a second round pick and remember that the philadelphia eagles have the miami dolphins first round pick in two thousand twenty two so they already have at least two first round picks and if this ultimately plays itself out there could have a third from indianapolis but having to i having two seconds is definitely much better than them having three once. Anyway let's talk about mica. Parsons i thought this was really cool. Peter king returned last week to his football morning in america column. One of the muss reads every monday. If you aren't nfl fan and this past monday which was just yesterday. I think that's weird right. Like i can't say this past monday. If it was just dago. I can say that on thursday. You know what. I mean when there's been enough time but anyway. Yesterday king had some notes from different training camps. He was out at rams camp. He was at raiders camp He was added dallas cowboys. Camp in oxnard california and we know you and me here the educated dallas cowboys fan. That peter king is close with mike mccarthy because when mike mccarthy was reentering the coaching cycle in two thousand twenty. Peter king sat down with mike mccarthy and had a very long massive you know. Sit down very similar to the mccarthy project that on nfl network anyway. Peter king had a quote from coach mccarthy. Any kind of set it up like this. He said i was surprised at one thing he talked about in our thirty minutes. Mccarthy is a traditional coach players have to prove their worth and though he's not against playing rookies he has to see them perform consistently well so when. I asked about parsons. His answer surprise me. This is mccarthy's peter king. He needs to play opening day. You have to trust what your eyes are telling you. When i watch him. I see a fluid and explosive player. This game's not too big for him. Some guys run four three. Some guys play for three. He's the kind of guy who plays fast..

"Cowboys seemingly healthy enough like you said all those injuries. The big names don't seem to be seriously hurt. ask you though who's like standing out in cowboys camp so far. Are there any like exciting players that have kind of rose to the occasion. So far so mike. Parsons is obviously standing out. He's i think you know already one of the best players On this defense and that was kind of obvious even coming into it but randy gregory rand gregory. Somebody that i think. A lot of people who aren't cowboys fans might have forgotten about the team's second round traffic in two thousand fifteen Has played sparingly been suspended off and on Most of those suspensions All the suspensions had to do with testing positive for marijuana. The nfl has since altered their stance on that this off season. This is randy's first full year offseason wise with the dallas cowboys since his rookie year. Two thousand fifteen He does look to be in shape in their. You know jerry jones will tell you. There's not a lot of tread on the tires. And that's true. Although the fact that he's never he hasn't played a full regular forever is certainly caused for. Just you know slowly waiting into these waters but he does look right. And that's really encouraging. I would say maybe the star early on and this will maybe cause. Some bowling of the is is defensive coordinator. Dan quinn he has. He has really kind of want people over. The this is i realized hanging fruit. But he's doing things like this. It'd been you when you come from a situation where you had mike nolan last year. Everything's a breath of fresh air to be clear but before and after practice working one on one with players his press conferences. You just sound so you know mike. Nolan's press conferences last year. Involved him telling us you got tabasco in his eyes to be clear. How low the mars But dan quinn. Dan quit clearly a teacher. And i think that we saw that in atlanta even and certainly saw that in seattle and that was really needed sorely needed for this team he He wears jordan's which is got a lotta people all you know. Gosh the dc's weren't some jay's And i don't know if you saw this story biaggi. He mentioned that over the off season. He played run dmc for defensive players. Did you see this story. No so he mentioned that he is a fast talker fast speaker. I don't know. I think are both relatively fast talking. So we can certainly empathize and so an exercise to kind of prove to them that they would not be able to take notes off everything he said he played a run dmc song for them and challenge them to write all of the words in the or as many of the words in the song they possibly could and i think the winner got like two lines of the song Every players had like. Yeah it was crazy with super blah blah and his whole point was look. You're not going to be able to take notes on everything this is about absorbing the information etc etcetera. I know the system that i'm teaching you etc so my point is setting. This up is because this is the last episode of the mid state that people are going to hear before the first episode of hard knocks next week. Air to see a lot of dan quinn and a lot of stuff like this. Definitely ask you that. So good Point wondering when exactly it began so that'll be interesting to see obviously will i'm sure that will provide some content for this in two weeks. I was wrong so segment lied to list. That's i mean we never lie to the listener. So that's the goal of the podcast. I don't know why you would do that. As far as the hype thing or the cowboys defense goes this kind of reminds me. As you're saying this like dan quinn. Just being the new version of mike mccarthy like where you know your your previous defensive coordinator mike nolan whereas like gary just like the new guys better automatically you. Bring him in. He's enough great over the any might be. I'm not gonna roll that out. I think actually in fact he is just because by virtue of mike nolan not being like a real defensive coordinator option in the year twenty twenty. It's not there was never really a real hiring to me. This isn't this isn't gonna work out. So as i do. You know i patrol all the other. Nfc east espionage and blogs. And i was looking at blocking the boys recently. Because i you know. I put these articles in the linkage day. At the bottom that i give people Going leading your nation that taste of what's going on around the division. I did see one of my favorite writers. Tom rile feel like is unabashedly. Bullish on the cowboys always and by the way it is bush. I heard you say this recently in a different podcasts. Exc about this bush means you like something. I'm very confident this. I'm high on this thing. I am bullish. Bearish means like don't feel good about it shouldn't once we did one time. I was very unsure at the time but very confident now. Bush means like on something. And i remember you bringing this up. A bullish investor also known as believes that the price of one or more securities will rise. I i always thought. And i guess i fell back into this even after. You corrected me. The bullish like hesitant. Or you're scared. That are apprehensive towards. But that's okay so we do know. I'm looking at the line from this article here going into the offseason fixing the defense was stated as a top priority based on what we have seen so far. Those are not empty words. I love i love it. I love a week of training. Camp practice already. Seen the defense look good all right. It's going to be fine. Maybe maybe he's gonna be elite but it's going to be fine. It's gonna be good. It'll be better It's that time of year though. Is i laugh about it. I i kind of tease about it. But seriously i mean obviously That's going on eagles. Were up to where everyone i feel like has convinced themselves has everyone. Eagles has come up with the take generally that like. Oh the eagles are gonna be better than you think this year and i feel like everyone is saying that and it's not actually like better than you think everyone is saying that. Now you know what. I mean valley. Oh unpopular opinion. These are gonna be good. No like it's come to the point where now everyone saying that and like no one sleeping on them. Well that's a good transition to To the eagles. I think they'll be. Let me be clear about this. I think they will be better than you specifically things that they are going to be because you have been not like hater low on them but you have been a wisely low astutely low of them and i just i i think the division sucks and like some of that is i don't i. I think that they split the series with washington. They probably sweep the giants like so right there. We're talking about three wins. And so i think this team's get into like between six and eight wins. If you told me the over under was six and a half i take the over you tell me with seven and a half. I'd stress a little bit about it. But i mean i think they're right there like i think i think they're higher kick correctly. Miami's pick in two thousand and twenty two correct the miami's first round pick for sure have pick nba elevated. So i'll go on. The record is take right now. I think their highest first round pick in two thousand and twenty one.

"The dallas cowboys. I've been in the situation before when a player has one foot out the door. He's not going to be the same guy he won't have that same level focus and dan. Quinn will be a huge addition to the dallas cowboy defense will be top five on offense. There'll be middle road on defense. Damn quinn replaced. Mike nolan in twenty fifteen at the atlanta falcons. They had a massive improvement dan. Quinn replaces mike nolan in twenty twenty one in dallas. Their defense lava massive improvement. They'll be in the championship games against the buccaneers. They get new players on defense. Or i say i mean. The cowboys remain unbeaten in july every year in july. They're just let me come to extend both teams the biggest threat to the buccaneers in the nfc. Yeah first of all they better be top-five on offense. They got a lot of money invested talking about their defense. I've been saying the washington football team. I think if that we go forward and we write the headline of who might knock them off. It will read the washington football team. Giant turn back the hands of time in their front four dominates tampa's offense and i think that's the only way to beat tampa. I think there's defense will be the best defensive football. It's the best defensive line in football william jackson edition at corners. Huge davis the draft. Pick out a kentucky should be a really good player and their offense could be the fastest offense in football fifties gonna play good. Their offensive line is better than people think one team that could go knock off tampa or the most equipped to do it is washington. I agree and yesterday at this time. That would have been my pick her. But if aaron rodgers playing for the green bay packers. I have to go with them. I mean they were there and they are that and they've got that guy. I like wine. Patrick think he will play better than most people think. He won't play as well. As aaron rodgers. aaron rodgers last year was the best player in the sport. And there's no obvious reason to me why he shouldn't be again now. I have no idea what impact all of this off season mess will have on him or on them on the field. But i don't see any obvious reason to think considering they were right there with home. Field advantage against tampa last year and made a questionable decision to kick a field goal late. Danny and a lot of other sort of crazy things that happen. In that game member of the touchdown the score right before halftime by tara. And everything else i to me. It dan it has to be the packers. This is what i would say about. The packers the championship roster. It's not a championship team anymore. And that's good. I just don't see how everything that has transpired. This off season between aaron rodgers in the organization and team in the unknowing her the not knowing. What's going to happen. The drama distraction. That is not going away. It will be a conversation every single week. I don't see how a championship team going forward. It certainly possible. That's why i say. I don't know what impact is going to have on them. I watched jordan and pippen up close and personal twenty something years ago. We'll see if rogers and davante can do the same things making a wick. Let's take a look at some other training camp situations and it does start with devante atoms more or less dan. Devante twelve and a half touchdown catches this season. Go more or less. i'm gonna say less. He's done it twice. In the last three years he had thirteen eighteen and then eighteen touchdown catches last year. It's just so hard to do. i'm gonna put them at twelve. I think the addition of amari rogers out of clemson in the third round for them gives them another pass catching threat especially down in the red zone out of the slot. He's going to have another huge season. I'm gonna put them at twelve touchdowns. I'll say less. I like it. Mike back to your favorite team the cowboys more last night rushing for ezekiel elliott. Which way do we go. Well after that full predicted apportion has to be more for a couple reasons. He looks great. He looks like he's in the best shape of his career but more importantly they're getting back three offensive. Linemen and zack. Martin mill towns tyron smith who combined this three six games. Those those are three frontline offense. I'm in big improvement in the run game and then one more reminder. Julio jones is now a tennessee titan. So dan more or less six and a half touchdown catches for. Julio yeah. i'm going with less. He's done that once. Had more than six and a half touchdowns in a season once in the last five seasons he still going to be an incredibly impactful player. Further offense but aj brown is their guy eight. I would put julio jones right around five or six touchdown catches this year. That will be a tremendous impact today. Brown's their guy and he hasn't done in five years. I'll say less time with that. On one hundred percent. Meanwhile speaking of receivers we have another one to get to as we continue. Odell beckham said words. All browns fans wanna hear just win baby why that wish may come at some personal cost. That's on the way..

"Too much uncertainty around the situation if you trade for you don't know how many games he's going to play for you this year because there's still the potential of league disciplined so Yeah something has to be resolved one way or the other with a lawsuits or the league has to weigh in or else the texans against the really drop their price and maybe that's why he showing up to get them to do that. Okay we'll see one way or another. There are a lot of different layers to that story. We'll see how it plays out. That's a team with great uncertainty. Let's get to a team with a lot of certainty or at least they think so. The cowboys are in training. Camp in oxnard california they health dak prescott has been these story of camp. After his last season was cut short due to injury his comeback will be one of the biggest factors for the cowboys success. How 'bout this jimmy. Johnson dallas is one of seventeen. That hasn't been to a conference championship game since nineteen ninety five. So will this be the season that streak ends. Here's what has to happen. That prescott is going half the show. Everyone he's worth every penny of the massive contract he signed months. Do not pay good players. Great player money. When jack broke his ankle against the giants last season he was leading the nfl in passing yards. He may have to do that again. This season and even if dak has a big year. The cowboys won't be able to win if they don't get back behold z. They need that offense of firepower from a guy that they've invested a lot of last year. Ezekiel elliott led all running backs in fumble. And only three of his two hundred ninety six touches went for twenty or more yards. If zeke returns to form that will help. Ease the cowboys. Defense off the field. A defense but last year allowed more points than auburn fourteen. So jerry jones fired defensive coordinator. Mike nolan ever placed with dan. Quinn he drafted eighteenth offensive players. Including i wherever mica parson problem solved. We'll see all high expectation. The cowboys set for themselves. Only always fall short. The cowboys have one thing going for them. They play in the nfc. Were not as warm. The division back to back years since the eagles in two thousand and four bring the crew in here and lewis. I will start with you because now the expectations for the cowboys are always high. Because they're the cowboys in the years. I've been doing this show. They've never been higher than they are right now. I got one person after another coming on here. Talking about the cowboys are gonna win. The division unstoppable. What is the single biggest concern. You have for the cowboys. As training camp now gets fully underway. Twenty five plus years. They haven't been in the conference championship game. It's amazing my my biggest concern clearly clearly. Is this defense and look. The offense cannot continue to carry the defense and make things easier for the defense deepens has to carry its own weight and mike. Parsons has to be everything and more that they expected and when they drafted him in the twelfth over on the first round and why is that because he is going to affect this defense in every single way that they were deficient last year. He's going to affect them on first down in terms of giving up on you know on first down. He's going to them as far as the third down concern which they were one of the worst teams in the nfl. Whether it's whether it's him being used as a blitzer coverage player he's gonna affect them in the red area. He's going to affect them with their past win. Rate all these different things that they were in the bottom third to bottom quarter of the league. Mike has to come in and right now as the guy who's going to be at the command control center of this defense at the mike linebacker position..

"He's got a lot to prove he is been written off our hasn't been just. This was a bad year for the. He's pretty much been written off. So i think you'll bounce back and it'd be motivated on the defensive and that's the big thing they and look in the nfl. Coaching is more important than any other sport and dan. Quinn is the defensive coordinator. I think that's gonna pay huge dividends over. What might nolan did in vander. They didn't pick up his fifth year of his option. So i think he's going to be motivated. I like mike. Parsons that drafted kelvin. Joe's about think helps the cornerbacks defensive backfield so i think the defense won't be great but it will be pretty good. It was a top ten before. Mike nolan got there and i think quincy get them back to be in ten eleven twelve in the league defensively good enough to win the nfc east and getting the tournament and once you're there you gotta shot all right. I've got better news for the cowboys. faithful out there. Start your basically already in the super bowl week one. You open up in tampa bay. That is a must win game so rather than talking about after week. Seventeen in after the play offs we get to the super bowl win the first game. I don't wanna hear any drama about it. You're in that's where the super bowl was. You're playing tom brady. You got a huge audience and then after that you don't play a team with a winning record last year. Two week eleven. So that's remember when you like went to school or you went to college man. I'm gonna go home and see my folks at thanksgiving. that's how long it is until the cowboys. Play a team with a winning record. So nick to me i. It is a must-win game. And i will root for the cowboys. I will believe in the cowboys. But if they lose that first game. I'll be out on the cowboys and then invite you to join me and i know what you're saying like all wild it's tampa bay played the super bowl chance no mccarthy you know how you're supposed to have a good record off a bye week input nick back on. He's flabbergasted record mccarthy yet eight months to prepare for this game. The buccaneers got no new players. They brought everybody back. They're going to do the same stuff. Figure it out. You supposedly watched every gosh darn game in the bar in appleton wisconsin. Now you just need to watch. That was gonna do the same stuff to throw the ball long. They're gonna rush that. You should be able to beat them in. Start your season off on foot. Well listen. I don't think is there I also i also by mike mccarthy know a few things one is am i going to have my all pro left tackle against the box. Unlike the packers of the chiefs did. And he's tom brady going to bring his hand. Pick reps from the super bowl. That obviously flip that entire me into the first half. So they're going to be in real rough shape. But i look at the schedule a little differently broussard than wild. Says which is even if they lose that earth's gain because the next i know you said they don't play team with winning record until week..

"Zeke elliott had more carries than anybody in football since he was drafted a twenty sixteen. So i think. Zeke elliott is done challenging for rushing championships. And maybe that's fine. I think you'd still be a huge part of a winning team. If the right circumstances are created for him to dominate the close out games so forth like derrick. henry does in tennessee. But but i just. I don't think it makes sense a year later. It's a higher. Mike mccarthy guy who has very little regard for the running game when you pay ezekiel elliott to the highest running back in football you know spend all this money and draft collateral on arranging a great offensive line. That's dominant upfront. Under jason garrett. Yeah i'm still not sure. The philosophy here comes down to defense. I've said this all along the last well when it comes down to if you win a championship it comes down to somebody making a defensive play. And whether it's malcolm butler or chris jones with the like it's a small thing and you go. Oh i got all these stars all these offensive weapons. Everybody's putting up these great fantasy numbers it comes down to. Can you stop somebody at some point in the season can dallas stop somebody while i couldn't stop anybody last year. They gave up a franchise record. Four hundred seventy three points. But then you know dan. They've only played football in dallas for sixty one small samples they allowed two of the three single highest rushing. Totals in an individual game in franchise. History may allowed twenty-seven touchdown passes to wide receivers the most in the nfl last year so they were horrible across the board. And that's why. Mike nolan got fired after one season as defensive coordinator but that was a. That's a mike mccarthy higher so beyond all the bad decisions and there were bad hires. And i think dan quinn is going to be a much take a much more aggressive approach on defense obviously. They dedicated their drafted defense in a way they never have before their first six players were all defensive players so i think that gives them a chance. But i overall dan to your point. I think the cowboys themselves were trying to achieve being the kansas city chiefs. They want to be a great offensive team. Puts up a lot of points makes a lot of explosive plays. And then just be good on defense And maybe they can achieve. I know they can achieve the first part. I think they could be really good on offense if if dak prescott stays healthy which he's done every year but last year. It's the defensive part of the equation that i'm not sure how long that's going to take. But if their goal is to be averaged attainable. Edward from the mother ship covering the cowboys more threatening team the chargers of the rams given the injuries that have happened camakers with the rams. But who do you think is more threatening this year. I like the rams quite a bit last year after deck. Got her the cowboys radic contention and nobody was interested in more. I really liked the matt. Stafford dynamic with sean mcveigh but the acres injuries us really significant one in my mind having watched him and how much you know he became a dominant factor in the offense the second half of the year but i gotta love the chargers. They play in a in a tough situation. Division rents hard to imagine them winning the division over the chiefs But the young quarterback is fantastic. And we'll see what effect the coaching change has there. They are a team that can be really good on defense and on the other side of the ball so to answer question. I liked the chargers as a.

"Because you're not how many terrible defense is romo had which hindered his career probably would have won a super bowl too if they weren't so bad But two thousand ten was bad defense to but then you look at the once again. You know they were. They were the worst rushing defense in the history of the dallas cowboys. I think our second worst rushing defense one of the two. Yeah and and like we've addressed plenty in the off season. You know the cowboys definitely did make some low key. Signings to bolster up the middle of the interior Obviously you know the linebackers are brand new. I don't want to steal brett's done there. If that's what he's looking forward to the most but the linebackers in the defense as a whole you know i. It's it's going to be a whole new. Look man and i think that the cowboys have a have a real good chance to to you. Know improve greatly right off the rip. Like i said. I think that dan quinn sitting in that chair is a better defensive coordinator. Mike nolan and he hasn't done anything yet. I think that magnolia that bad for the cowboys teams and i'm interested. I want like our talent like like. Do you think that i met on a scale from one to ten to compare the talent. We have to the talent that dan quinn had seattle. Like worried. you. Where would you rank us comparing it to. I mean it's hard to compare this to the what was that. I was to open question. Yeah shed search all right. Well if i had to compare the two as far as talent. Those guys over there with richard sherman's showed up to his eventful weekend And then you had like a camp chancellor and you know there was. There was guys over there. They hit him. Bobby wagner is like those teams. They had some established folks over there. I don't know if the cowboys have. The established folks yet they. There's still a lot to build but there's definitely intangibles. I think the dallas cowboys defense drafted you know the defense coordinator and the entire organization drafted in a way to get similar players. Size-wise for dan quinn. He likes that tall. Lanky get up and get the bulk dudes and he was able to rebuild his defense and they kind of gave them the keys. They're like all right. You got to fix this and fix it fast. Who do you need you know. And he's i need y. z. And here we are so Remains to be seen. It's hard to compare the two because we haven't seen the product. Yeah no i know. I just wanna go again with seattle. You had that youth but they were all young at one point as drew and i. It's it's hard to compare someone else's chapter five to someone else's chapter one. You know what. I mean so you can't do that. I can't wait. I'm really excited about our secondary but she is out. What we're you know. Why because you're not knocking. You don't have the pads on yet again. Many campus is still a good assessment of talent for your corners receivers and all your skill positions because you know even in today's day you're not really hitting like that and you know it's all going to be coverage and and like a guy like john would be phenomenal in today's game because he was more of a finesse corner. You know what. I mean where it was an physical while he would be phenomenal in in training camp. Because there'd be no client even the way that the cornerbacks played d Defense today. I mean they wanna be physical. But you know it's hard to physical today's nfl. Because you get flagged for everything but the excitement is going to be for me. At least the first week is You know those corners. And i wanna see you know how our linebackers cover they added. Obviously they edited. Mike parsons in the draft. I'm really. I'm really excited about that. Kid even more. So when i learned more about when we had the kid on from penn state in finding out that. Parsons is a diehard cowboys fan. This is a dream his and he could he could be an edge. Rusher is my guy was calm. Zaven cons remember. I loved him right now. he's in jail not. I don't know i'm just that that would be. That's really where you're going to see it like. He said too. Many camera assessing talent now in in in training camp. You're you're fighting for job. You know jalen smith things going to be fun. Yeah i listen. I have faith in jalen. I know you do. I really do man i mean again. I'm almost in the mentality of saying it can't get any worse at this. And they added that the necessities at these positions but again yeah remains to be seen When it comes to what does dallas cowboys defense is gonna be made of so all right so to recap you know real quick. Keith is excited about dan queens defense to see what he can do as a whole right off the rip. We'll see what happens and then of course brat excited about the secondary in particular because of the cement when when you say and i'll make the comparison to comedy when you're doing those open mikes. You're doing those bar shows. You're doing all these hell gigs. It all comes together when you get in front of a great like like at the main room at the comedy store at ten thirty sold out you got an. You've been working in the the original room at one o'clock in the morning you know. It's a hell by fires is that how are trial by fire. Whatever that are secondary was thrown into it last year and they played some nominal. And and i think that that is going to be one of the bright spots coming. I hope i'm right but there's gonna be more of the bright spots coming into this year. I don't know i. I thought they played well but i met a lot of times. They were at a physician and that could be coordinated. No that's that's just because we weren't getting pressure well. No there are times where they work. I mean i'd never seen so many open receivers so wide open. You know you don't talk about starts to replace. I think. I think breads being and this is not l- typical brat but addict brett's being a little generous. When he says phenomenal he'd just means that like they played. They played their balls off trying to trying to get things done on board. These days which i think is going to be phenomenal. I was so good in football. Why is that because he can cover no because he was always playing against me and my friends as a kid. Yeah so you level when he when he when he came into his to his His frame you know he was used to overcompensating for being small. And the next thing you know you know i. It's just one of those things where when you're just thrown into it you have to adapt you know. I'm bringing evolution into this argument. We lost one of our defensive backs who are on his name. I was like i think. He i if i if i read correctly if he got in trouble. So we parted ways and said you know by you know like we're not going to your bubble player. You can't do that. Yeah this is not the time i mean. I just looked at article before about who they're bringing into. Campus fires like the amount of players..

And that team did go to the playoffs and jim fossil delivered on that promise and it was another one of those great guarantees in new york and it was an underrated soundbite and jim fossil was a great man. Condone this to his family. Yeah coz fossil was my first coach. She's the only coach. They gave me an opportunity to play in this league. And you don't necessarily think about people every day. But when i finally read this news and saudi past thought about something he'd be for me. My first opportunity started was on prime time it was it was against tampa bay buccaneers and we were really not playing. Well he looked at me. He said you know what this is the team that gave you a chance. You worked to earn this opportunity. Isn't this exactly what you've worked for. And he said he was happy to be the coach to give me that chance and when no other coach thought you were good enough to have you on their team. Here's the coach. Who decided to keep you because of your play even starts you because of the pure play in opportunity that you earned and he took his time and giving one of those great speeches that was four of their entire team and he looked at me and he pointed at me and he looked me in my eyes and he gave me something from his heart. I think that's who joe fossil was and that's who he should be remembered as for the football community for all of us. Mccarthy says that plan will be followed throughout this minicamp with the expectation being. He participates fully during training camp. Things that i to say guys. It's fun to watch. dak move around other. It looks like he's moving around pretty good. There's pressure every season win in dallas cowboys. But who's going to be filling it most this season. Oh it's the defense. I mean the defense was like peppy. Look you stake last year. It was absolutely awful. We were talking about these record. Numbers being put up by dag. And all of these great wide receivers with those numbers were needed just to lose by not even to win football games. You replace mike nolan with dan. Quinn ukrainian a great defensive back coach. Joe wing who's been in this league for over a decade and you drive defense. Mike parsons kelvin. I actually think this is a situation now where you go. Look the if they're not winning. People aren't going to blame. That people are gonna blame dan. Quinn people are going to blame. Mike mccarthy so i think that's really where the pressure is much things on the hot seat to lose his job but that's the plane if they have another losing season because the previous four years under jason garrett they were five hundred or better listen. I think tim's points are well taken. But i think there's something about putting a cowboys. John blast that's become a sport. I won't give we do that for jason season. It's a people's putting mike mccarthy on blast okay. Do i agree with what you're saying. But hey mike mccarthy your seats get warm real fast for tim. Hasselbeck do listen permai. No, I know personally near where I am I've seen probably 45 game stops shut their doors in the last year, the stocks only worth as much as people think it is. Some analysts say this is really less about making money that it is trying to stick it to big hedge fund investors by making them scramble to cover their positions on stocks. They're shorting. There's also the question of whether this is dangerous and possibly illegal manipulation of the markets. Securities and Exchange Commission is said to be looking into that. The upshot of all this is that investors on Wall Street were very nervous yesterday. They also had to deal with some disappointing corporate earnings reports and the closing bell. The Dow was off by 634 points and as Jack was down, 3 55. And the S and P 500 was down almost 100. Dallas Cowboys Hire Former Falcons Head Coach Dan Quinn To Try To Fix Defense

History of that franchise around, Enjoy all 473 of them points quite frankly. It's a major miracle that Mike Nolan actually made it through the entirety of the season because it was plenty of evidence that his defense wouldn't working and he could've been fired midseason, but he made it all the way through. Unfortunately, one of our favorites Jim Tomsula, he got it is well. Jim Tomsula fired along with Mike Nolan Tomsula was the defensive line coach of the Cowboys. So Uh, two Former Niner head coaches were fired by the Dallas Cowboys today because the Cowboys disastrous performance on defense this season. Mike Nolan and Jim Just play butt naked. Dallas Cowboys fire defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and defensive line coach Jim Tomsula
"Do have some breaking news on friday afternoon. The first friday after the dallas cowboys season ended an unfortunate start the new year for their staff. That dallas cowboys. Making some you know some obvious news in a bit of surprise news the dallas cowboys announcing that defensive coordinator. Mike nolan defensive. Line coach jim. Tom soula have been let go. Have been whatever you wanna call it fire to buy the team. They will not be back in two thousand and twenty one. Mike nolan obviously oversaw. One of the worst defenses to ever live ever played in the nfl. And so we'd heard. Rumblings obviously had been reported different instances over kind of the last month that it was likely he was not going to be back although mike nolan. If you're somehow unaware is is rather chummy with mike mccarthy dallas cowboys head coach mike mccarthy they go way back in case. You forgot mike. Nolan was the head coach of the san francisco. Forty niners in two thousand and five and mike mccarthy offensive corner at the time that was of course the year. The forty niners took alex smith with a number one overall pick. Ironically the quarterback that won the division that they were together here. This season with the dallas cowboys. Jim thome soula was a head coach of the forty niners at one point in time himself albeit for only a year obviously following in the footsteps of jim harbaugh who got an extension today of all days again with the university of michigan so lots of symmetry going on here and so. Yeah i mean my canola thing. I think everybody saw coming a mile away. The jim thome solo thing is a bit of a surprise austin on youtube. Says i thought it said mccarthy and was like whoa still good to get rid of nolan and this is how every cowboys fan feels. And let's be frank. Let's be honest. We don't enjoy talking about people losing their jobs. People getting fired or things like that but this defense was among the worst again in the history of this game. The dallas cowboys last week. With their season on the line against an offense that had been anemic for most of the season the new york giants that was incidentally again. You talk about all. The irony here led by former dallas cowboys head coach jason garrett in the giants offensive coordinator who again to go kind of crazy circle reportedly had an interview today on friday with the los angeles chargers for their head coaching vacancy. But the cowboys new york with their season on the line and they got run over. I mean the new york giants before last week against the cowboys. The previous four games. The giants had not scored more than three points in a single first half in each of the four games. The giants played before the cowboys. They went into the locker room at halftime with no more than three points. They put twenty up in the first half against the cowboys. And that was kind of what the season was for the cowboys right. This never ending display of imperfection this never ending run of records getting broken records getting set and i just you know this was inevitable. I mean shutout. Of course to the all encompassing thanos. I mean this truly was inevitable. Reality a lotta people myself. Included wondered what took so long this week. It's a pair at the mike mccarthy and his staff overall were evaluating things doing kind of the final walk throughs and assessments in whatever time just came for them to move
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones: “Ridiculous” to think Mike McCarthy won’t be back
"About why Dallas has been so bad. Some of the finger pointing has ended up Going to head coach Mike McCarthy or Stephen said on Monday. They will not be moving on from McCarthy. When 2020 comes to an end and yesterday, dearie weighed in. Joining the conversation in his radio show where, he said, I've been known to stick with these guys in early, troubled times coaching, not understand frankly, how ridiculous this conversation is in terms of ever Having any meat on the bone, he added. He loves special teams coordinator John Facile, but didn't say anything about his defensive coordinator, Mike Nolan, who many think is trying to do too much schematically installing this defense in the off season. Is it time to fire Cowboys DC coach Mike Nolan?
"All know Mike McCarthy is safe for now. But apparently the Cowboys defensive coordinator. Mike Nolan not so much across to some Rumblings. Okay. Now, this is per the NFL Network. They're getting these rumors. If you will these inside sources saying that you it's not looking good. Now if you're going by just the statistics alone, Mike Nolan's defense has been torched all season if you have eyeballs, you don't need numbers for that. You've seen how fucking embarrassing this Cowboys defense has been off the Cowboys defense ranks last in the NFL in points allowed at 393 393 and rushing yards at 2014 the 6th worse in yard / play at 5.9 and tied for 29th and takeaways at 11 gross. So Mike Nolan not looking good. All the Rumblings they're dead. Suggest that he might not be in Dallas next
Dallas Cowboys lost to Philadelphia Eagles
"Maybe Hot sauce and the eye was the high point of the week from Cowboysdefensive recording, and Mike Nolan Cowboys still lost yours. 23 9 despite four turnovers by Eagles quarterback Carson wins and, Yeah, the Eagles in first place in the NFC, So it was a Sunday night classic. Maybe not. W till bees Rob would four points out. Everybody got a good laugh in Mike Nolan for getting hot sauce in his eye, But I'd rather wear Tabasco glasses than watch another minute of NFC East football. We had eight sacks, six turnovers and to losing teams, one of which is actually in first place in a division unreal, much more. Robert before seven fell, recaptured. W t l p dot com Including a tough day for the Ravens at 28 20 for loss of Steelers Steelers, now the NFL's only undefeated team and about the ESPN reward than Washington's Ryan Carrick. It wants to be traded. I wrote last season that Washington needed to trade Ryan Kerrigan and Trent Williams in order to maximize the return on those players at the trade deadline last year. Ryan Kerrigan probably fetches you a second, maybe a third round pick this year. You're not going to get that return on him, And there's no indication Washington wants the trade. Ryan Kerrigan trade deadline is tomorrow. Decent either for three loss of England Revolution still have a chance to make the playoffs, but they need help from other teams, and they have to win their season finale. Where do the Cowboys go from here? To the trade deadline — but as sellers instead of buyers
"The Cowboys easier to write about when they win or when they lose? Uh, they're easy to write about what they lose. When they win. People feel good. You sell more newspapers when they win. That's a proven thing. So there's that. But, man what you know now, sometimes when they're bad, they're just not interested. And they just kind of go away. Like I don't know what it's like to right about when the Detroit Lions are bad. They probably just people are waiting for the Red Wings to drop the puck. But when the Cowboys are bad, there's usually nine different things in Iraq, And this year there, there might be that might be multiplied. So there's you can just pick out of a hat. And and and go from there. What is Jerry? June Jones do now? You know, one of the really disappointments with serious disappointments, obviously of code. But one of the rial lighter disappointments of this year is that he doesn't do press conferences after every game, because I can't imagine. What level he would have reached yesterday. Um, you know, it's Tze one thing to get beat up by Seattle or airy Arizona's offense. They can't stop the run. With anybody, not the Washington football team. They run for over 200 yards. And if you want to pick one area of the Cowboys that does not beat up my injuries. Their front seven They've got Jalen Smith. They got banned arrest. They've got the Marcus Lords they've got. They've got elegance. They got Everson Griffen. They got Tyrone Crawford. They got guys were supposed to be there, and they can't tackle anybody. And then you have the hit on Andy Dalton and that nobody seems to concern about the chief shot by Jon Bostic. That wasn't it took the announcers of minutes to kind of recognize, but they did eventually, So okay, that's that's a brutal Yep. Be Amari Cooper is standing there and there's others around there had to be a number of players see it. I would think the entire offensive line and to see it. On nothing. Nothing at all. I mean, I can't imagine. If that was Dad getting hit like that that they wouldn't have done something but that that just pointed to the the give up factor of this team they looked like in the first quarter. They're out there to see when it's going to go badly, and you know how much it's going to feel like a ground hog day. They got nothing on either side of the ball, but quitting is worse than losing to him. Yeah. And of course, coaches will always and players will fight. You didn't quit. Everybody has a great attitude by when you see something like that, and when you see it That And when you see a team that just gets gassed in the run and announcers every week, whether it's the money, night crew or yesterday was was Moose. Ah lot of destroyed job back and they get very quickly. The out of position on these place. They really get outflanked quickly without defense. I mean, they're they're talking around the fact that team looks very poorly prepared and has no idea what to do in the players. Never respond if Jerry had to do over coaching. Well, I mean, that's what What was it about Mike McCarthy flying in and spending one night at the Jones house and all they were just so wowed by this guy. They couldn't believe it. Now, what have you seen in any game that he brings? You didn't call the plays so anytime the offense was playing well earlier in the year, That's Kellen Moore is offense. So what is he doing over there that he brings Emily brought in all these coaches? Guys he had in Green Bay 10 years ago. Mike Nolan, who hired him 20 years ago. It's just this. This cronyism tied coaching staff. And you wonder, and you wonder how much Jerry thought about like a mat rule. He mentioned Matt Rule one time last December, just after Baylor played in the Big 12 championship game. What a great young coach to thought. Matt Rhule wass. And you're Matt Rhule took over a team that was just God awful and got ready Cam Newton, and they released whatever they are three and four. They compete. Uh, yeah. I mean, I don't know. I don't know that he wouldn't like to rethink this lot. Now it's the first year so I think both the pandemic the DAC injury, the offensive line being completely wiped out. Those going allow the coaches to skate for year. But he has to be thinking this. This may have been a Terrible higher. The Cowboys buyers or sellers at the trade deadline. You know, I don't think they have a lot to sell. I heard somebody saying trade one of their wide receivers. They don't need that many hundreds of it. That's the one thing they have is good wide receivers. You want to trade one of those go You know, Draft Ah, linebacker with a neck injury. That's what that's what excites you about rebuilding the team. I don't think they will do much. There's certainly not Myers, they get by. I mean, I don't know why in the world you would add. Do it to a terrible collection of talent as this many injuries, but I don't expect him to do a lot, actually.
Dallas Cowboys Offensive Line In Flux Due To Injuries
"Have lots of talk about as it relates the cowboys I just what I think of this team this year and the expectations after Jerry Jones finally made the gutting decision that led to Jason Garrett showing up the building every day with a binder underneath his arm and dutifully hoping that he would. Get a stay of execution cowboy fan celebrated not only the draft pick a CD lamb but a coach was skins. Mike McCarthy hasn't exactly translated into the season that they had hoped for, and we're expecting some of it has to do with injuries bobby and we'll get to those in a second but a lot of teams are having to deal with injuries this year. Yeah. I, mean, the team the cowboys have up here the browns they've got a lot of injuries to deal with I. Mean The seahawks had you know a lot of patchwork stuff that they were doing last Sunday against the cowboys and so injuries are an excuse they're not necessarily a good excuse though for this cowboys team I think they, they definitely are missing some guys. They probably feel a little bit like we're not gonNA know who we are for real until probably mid October when randy gets reinstated fully you get hopefully late and vander aeschbacher. Corner start getting healthy so. It may be a situation where the cowboys are kind of you know we're GONNA fight and we're GONNA get as best we can until we get healthy and that's not necessarily an excuse that they're giving. It's just this is the way it's gotta be, and we kind of make do a little bit because they are decimated in the secondary. They've had issues at linebacker they've you know had the issues along the offensive line they lost jar when they're starting tight end and So I, mean they've definitely. Had those issues the thing that they don't want. You, you can't really do anything about injuries. You just adapt as best. You can the thing they don't want his they can't have. Three drops and you know two and a half yards per touch from Zeke Elliott. They can't have Jalen Smith missing tackles consistently and still be sixty million dollar guy they can't have. Dak Prescott turning the ball over. They need to have him protecting the ball. They can't have you know some of these. Occasional Amari Cooper focus drops. You expect injuries you deal with those. What you can have is all of that and then along in the secondary, you can't have guys just making really low I q reads and busted covered just stuff that doesn't seem to be a factor of trying to learn a new defense. This just seems like flat out low I q stuff of not recognizing who's assignment is who's You know I think back to Jalen Smith's comment to a about. Throwing it out through a little bit. Maybe they need to simplify the playbook if our fans aren't familiar with that one, let's play that one real quick. People, find beams the defense could innocent the group. Absolutely. Absolutely. I. Believe. Allowing more allowing US more opportunities to Hound in on what? We're actually going to run in in our game plan. I believe it's important. That each and every player knows in and out what they have to do. With a smaller playbook, you you know gives us better opportunity to do that. And like I said this about as growing each and every week. On coaches are the same page, the players on the same page and we're just trying to do whatever it takes to get that much better. Each and everyone is that players that aren't capable of learning the playbook or is it possibly too complicated? I don't know but I, got to tell you for all the people that wanted Rod. Marinelli Outta here have been overly impressed with Mike Nolan's defense. Again, injuries are an issue, I mean you lose Gerald McCoy loosely Van Deresh. You lose your to starting Corner Anthony Brown, and Lucy, but even they were healthy in that first game. I didn't think this team look that good. No, and you know it's again it's one of those things where not even a mention he's been healthy for the season but Jordan Lewis missed all the camp. I. Sale. Yeah. Exotic Woods was a big part of your problem last Sunday against the seahawks but I think overall everybody's got to step up. You know it's funny. We had Had the funny line during training camp. When asked him do you think about opting out at all and he said, Nope, contract to your baby and there's a lot of guys back there right now in contractors Jordan Lewis Cheeto you've got exertive your woods is another one. And it's fascinating that they're seeming to have these issues not just with again, the adjustment or or or skill players opposite them it's they're just dropping the ball in terms of. Knowing really basic fundamental stuff that that should have been all ironed out already and and you can say, maybe that's a a an issue with you didn't have some of the same lead up time or some of the same work that you would normally get but everybody had those same sort of issues and and not everybody is having these same sorts of just busted coverage touchdowns. I. Think there's four already on the year that were just left wide open by somebody not knowing an assignment including three last week against the
