"Bullshit. Bring it back. That's how much dust is inside. Yeah. I don't believe there are components in here. I need to see them. My Dreamcast is still in a clear, that's cool. Moved it over at some point. When you get those for like 15 bucks or whatever. Now I'm sure it's like, well, we 3D printed this because no one is making it. And as such, there are 70 fucking $5. Everything's 75 bucks now. I want everything that I own that is made of plastic to have that transparent colored Macintosh style. Have you considered going to prison? They got neon plastic in there. No, but it's all clear because they don't want you hiding shivs or drugs in them. You want a nice clear TV. Try jail. I smell a feature. We tried jail. I have seen, I feel like I have seen smash brothers running on a fucking jail CRT. Some of them have been liberated from the penal system and are out on the streets now. So you could probably find one. You look hard enough. We get into the news. The developers of what the dub, the Jack box esque, write your own joke for a movie, old movie clip video game, are coming back in May, and they have partnered up with the riff tracks folks to make riff tracks the game, and this seems like it will kind of do more of their promising kind of better Twitch integration and some of the stuff that jackbox does that what the dub kind of didn't. Seems like it is more in store, some new modes and stuff like that. And they've partnered up with thrift tracks, which is Mike Nelson and Bill Corbett. You know, the later era mystery science theater that wasn't as good as the.

"Need to ask my wife and we just moved, and he was like, no, apologize to Joanna, who's my wife, and tell I'm sorry to try to do this to you guys and make you move again and so from that point I had to go into the recruit's home and all these things are going through my head as I'm sitting here with this group. Like, what is going on right now? And then by that time, as I'm driving home, you know, my phone starts to ring. You know, from I talk to people from the AD to our players to people that are involved with the hiring and it's just, you know, the 80s and first things, are you interested in being the next head coach here? And I said, absolutely, who's not? You know? And that was just an initial conversation and it just started happening and you saw the people were calling it you had to talk to you had to do the interviews and the last thing was obviously to interview with the president father Jenkins and he was over in Rome and it was just all a blur. It was. It was just no sleep. You can't sleep. You're just on a adrenaline rush and, you know, I'll never forget when Jack sorber called me and said, I found my next head coach and it was a moment I'll never forget. But man, it's now look at it, you know? And now look at you. And you're the head coach Notre-Dame. And how cool is that, man? And what an opportunity is to serve these guys into help these guys reach their goals. And I won't take it for granted. So Marcus, hey, we can hear the passion for the players, especially and for the people coming through. I'm curious as to the football side is one thing, but the Notre-Dame job I've always heard is different because there is so much additional on your plate. You have all these guys who have chosen to be with you. They could have gone, Tommy Reese. You know, Mike Nelson, a bunch of other guys, could have left Lance could have left. They wanted to stay and be part of that program with you. Who else do you lean on maybe who is not on your staff? Maybe not necessarily your family, who is like, okay, these are people it's like, until you're the head coach, you probably don't know what you don't know, right? So who are the people who kind of started? Because even as gym trouser was obviously a wildly successful head coach in FCS and then Ohio State, but even as big as Ohio State was, it's probably not the same thing as being a head coach at Notre-Dame. So who are the guys who have been good resources and you think will be good resources for you to kind of help you on this journey? Yeah, you know a lot of people have reached out. A lot of people are willing to help. But you got to be careful who the advice you seek and for me it's the two people that are closest to me is obviously Luke fickle being one and he's extremely busy right now with getting ready for Alabama in the playoffs. And so, you know, I've talked to coach pick a few times, but really the other guy is Jim trusts in, you know, it's funny because Koch stress has been in the same my entire life that I've known him in that he always has this great answer, but never gives you an answer. Coach, what do you do here? I remember the first day they asked me, hey, what do you want to do about media? How do you want to open up the media? And I'm like, what? These are things I've never thought about. How do you control the media coming to practice? So what I call coast press HRS, how did you decide when you let the media in? What are you doing with the media? And he gave me this elaborate answer and it ended up being no answer. It ended up being trust your instincts. That's what it was like covering him all those years. We always joked that he'll tell you all the different ways to screw a lightbulb in, but we'll never just give you a lightbulb, right? And so he was the same way. But you know what? His greatest advice is lean on your captain's lean on no seniors because this is their program. And that's what I've done, man. I lean on these captains. And the guys that have bled for Notre-Dame and because you said it early, they talked about Tommy and Lance and Coachella and all these guys assigned to come back and it happens for me, I believe that it happens to be about Notre-Dame more than it does Marcus Freeman. And I'm glad these guys want to work with me and trust me, but Notre-Dame is special. Notre-Dame, the community Notre-Dame, the university, is a place that you want to be affiliated with affiliated with and you don't know what may be until you get here. This is a place that will change your life if you truly commit to it. And it's exciting the future of this place. It's exciting for me to be the leader here, but it's also exciting man to see where this place is going to take us all. So sell us on why, as you know that if there's a knock still on nerd aim, I mean, these guys have won a lot of games. They've been to the playoff. But then when they face Alabama or when they face Clemson in the playoff, you know, it's not close. But you guys clearly feel you're going to win a national championship. So for the public that says, oh, we don't think it's ever going to happen. Why is that possible at our name? Well, I don't think it's going to happen this year. And we don't deserve it this year, right? And you had an opportunity to be 12 and you lost one unbelievable sentence and that he team and we finished 5th in the country in the regular season and that's where we deserve to be. And but I think it's a process to getting to that point. And I believe that you can do it here. I believe that with the right talent with continuing to enhance the culture. And as I tell these guys, it's a culture right now that we're 11 and one. We've been a playoff sort of past three years, but it's really little things that we can show them and that we can do that are very intentional that I think that will take us to that point where we can you know what we can break through. We can beat the Alabama's or beat the climates or beat the teams that right now are at the mountaintop. And so it's going to be a process and it's going to be very intentional. It's going to be trial and error, right? And it's not, I wish I just said this is the formula we're going to do it and we're going to be national championships in a year two years. But no, it's going to be about working hard. It's going to be about getting that talent to get the best players in the country. It takes work. It doesn't take a BS sales pitch. It takes work hard work. And we as a staff happen to understand it, we have to work. And we have to develop these relationships. We have to convince these kids that have so many different options that you know what Notre-Dame is the best place for you. And that takes a lot of work and I think our staff is up for the challenge. You know, I know I'm up for the challenge and I want to lead this charge at getting those best players in the country, but also understanding that with the guys we have now with the guys we're bringing in, it's continuing to develop that team that environment, that culture that's going to get us to the top. Hey, Marcus, we know you got to run. I got one last question for you, though. You coached against Cincinnati to help develop those players. I mean, I talked to bunch NFL scouts who think there's a bunch of real dudes there, not just cornerbacks, not receiver here at edge rushers. Make the case why this team you would not shock you that they could win a national title win at all based on the talent that they have. Well, I think a lot of people, when you get ready to play in Alabama, you haven't mentality of oh shoot, man. We're gonna be outmatched before we even walk on the field. The one thing about Cincinnati's football team is that they will believe that they can compete with anybody in the country. And that's what they'll do when they play out of them..

"It's time for another installment of sea hunt. It still alive here on scuba shack radio. And this time. We're going back to season three episode thirty eight titled diplomatic pouch diplomatic pouch premiered on september twenty fourth nineteen sixty. Well in this episode. Mike is back in a latin american country named san miguel. His mission is to retrieve a diplomatic pouch from crashed american airplane. The show opens up with mike searching the wreck while his buddies on the surface appearing to be fishing as luck would have it. Mike find the pouch and starts to head to the surface. There's a great shot of the voight swim fins as he ascends but just as mike breaks the surface he's confronted with an armed boat of officials who are pointing their guns at him and asking him if he would be so good to come on board what to do. Quick thinking mike takes a fix on his position and drops the pouch. Who are these armed men. The guy in charge is colonel ramirez and he is the head of the coastal defense. He's cold and tough and goes over. Mike's gear with a fine toothcomb. Just then mike's friend. Paul alexander pulls up with their boat. He tells mikey sorry. That he drifted. The boat drifted off process that they are on vacation. And he's from dallas texas. Colonel ramirez tells them that they are not to dive on the downed airplane at an at the penalty by order of the dictator row. All as is that they will be immediately deported. They are welcome to fish. Just stay away from the airplane. So now paul and mike are on the bridget or boat and paul is upset about the diving when might tells him he found the pouch but he had to drop it. He says he took a position. And we'll be able to find it. But how will that be possible with the colonel watching pause. Got a plan. But mike wants to know i. Where did he get that phony. Southern accent well. Paul's plan involves dragging mike to a local cantina. The club kellyanne. Tae sign is flashing on and off as they enter once inside. They sit down in the bartender heads over the jukebox. A stereo phonic rockall roller and plays a record loudly before waiting on and paul. Something's the bartender nods and mike and pau get up and head for the back room. The ace of pulse leave is one of colonel ramirez. Deputy familiaux who calls the kernel. A pig who goes beyond the law familiar will fight with his fingertips to overthrow the hated dictator. The plane is to get. The plan is to get information from familiaux on whether the colonel is going to put a diver on the wrecked plane. Now the the scene shifts to mike and paul on the water and they're trying to get to the wreck but they're constantly being pursued by the coastal defense. Just then shots are fired from the defense boat. And they're colonel comes alongside and tells them that the penalty for diving on. The wreck is no longer deportation. It's death before they leave familiar hotels. Mike and paul that they are going to have another diver coming from the capital. Soon we now had back to the cantina. We're familiar comes in the bartender. Nods towards the back room in the room familiar hotels mike composite. The situation is desperate. what can they do. Mike knows he will be an underwater hitchhiker. But only familiar can drop a line over the side of the colonels boat you see. Mike can swim to the rack but he needs a ride back. Familiaux says it will be done. So now we have paul mike on their boat watching a coastal defence boat with its diver onboard and her headed out to the wreck plane. Mike tells paul if anything happens he needs to get out of there because he's too valuable. Paul reluctantly agrees as mike. Put the powder into his wetsuit top. Once the divers from the colonel Once the diver from the kernels boot jumps in. Mike is in the water swimming towards where he dropped the pouch. He sees the line. Familial has tossed over the side but now he needs to pop to the surface to get his bearings so he can find the diplomatic pouch just before the men on the boat turn towards mike. He slips beneath the surface a close call. Mike is now underwater searching and searching trying to find the pouch before the enemy divers season. Finally he spots the pouch intact and now he needs to get it out now. Here's where it gets a little strange. Mike is kneeling on the bottom looking at the patch. Trying to figure out and then like maybe how to open it or something. He's got a puzzled look on his face. His back is towards the plane wreck. As he's puzzling over the pouch the enemy divers spots him pulls out his knife and be lines towards mike as he tries to stab. Mike looks like the pouch gets in the way we are now witnessed to a classic underwater knife flight where mike wrestles do knife out of the bad guys hand takes out his own life and you guessed it cuts who's hose. The enemy divers forced to the surface and mike heads under the colonel's boat too high policies the diver surface in figures. There's a problem so he starts to head out. Mike is trying to figure out what to do with the diplomatic pouch when he decides to stick between his back and his doubles now. The colonel suspects that mike is with paul so he starts out in hot pursuit. Mike grabs the line and his underwater hitchhiking begins. The ride is challenging. You can see the strain on his double hose thins. Just as he's about to let go the boat slows down and pulls alongside. Paul familiar searches the boat and said no one is aboard. Paul says he just wants to go home as this is no place for a vacation. That colonel tells them to get out of his country. Once colonel leaves. Paul is despondent at the thought of losing mike just any. Here's mike call out. I think i heard him call pau. Alex i'm not sure. But as paul looks over the side mike tosses up the diplomatic pouch telling him. He forgot his laundry. Mike has yet again the day now. There wasn't any indication in credits as to where this episode was film. The plane wreck looked pretty authentic with the large propeller and debris. I wonder if this was. In the bahamas. So there you have it. Diplomatic pouch from season three of sea hunt.

"Xavier bailey said congratulations and kai was like you know what's the move a fifty like yes. Yes haddish because i thought that a not nothing plan even before talking to exist. But it's just funny it just at least on the it does make it look like is running game right now. Yeah we get this This diary room like Everything worked out perfectly. I just made this final two with like he had anything to do with kyle And his inane plan to bring the best competitor. Like you had anything to do with everybody in the house saying that. He's playing the best in because they wanted him targeted While he thinks that he's completely under the radar like he had anything to do with any of that. I all man. I love this game. This is really working out really well for me. I'm trying people are screaming that xs and getting the of credit. They're credit that he deserves. I mean the cr-. I said that he is taking advantage of a very easy. And i think that's what he's doing here. I mean i wanna. I wanna dr saying who would actually take to the final two. Because i get. I don't i i. It has to be big digging Actual final two guests. Because i've already already already said that. You know if they got to find three she'd be fine to bow out gracefully. Yeah i mean for as much as it seems like 'cause on the on the outside it seems like shortly. Xavier must be manipulating thailand. All of these things that don't make sense for his own game. But if you actually see what's happened if you're actually looking at what's happening you're seeing that highland is actually the one driving this. He's the one making the decision to go to the end in the way that he wants to go the and he has actually been dragging ex In line with what he wants. Exotic your seems to want kyle and in the final three and he says much in the in the diary room here in this episode that he's like this is cool. I i like this idea. Man i'm gonna make the gentleman. Yes i love the gentlemen exert your who just two weeks ago wanted kyw gone at six. You know like the directly ties work with him Has has changed. Xavier's mind on what his end game looks like. Yeah i mean. Exhibit does say in the episode of the point. Hey look at this point game. it's better to have people you know Wanting to work with you then work against you so he definitely like It's not against the idea but you know hard to say that this is like his favorite plan. That's out there. It seems to be the one he wants. It seemed based on his conversation with his conversations with with big d that he actively would like for osita leave before before kyla And that he would like to get to the at least the final three with colin okay. Let's say kylian has a with hatamar you mentioned earlier but Hand is really good. read on thailand. Yes and i love that they put that in episodes. I think this is the third time they've given hannity's diary rooms where like she's explaining her moves as they show the footage of it. I i really love that. And she really does have kyla. Mike nelson bag ego stroking. He likes to know that. You're giving up as much information. And like i said they like again. They only showed the you know the quick part in the episode there but she did a great job in her one on one with him And it just really does suck that. She was like one of the last people to talk to him. His mind was already set in stone. Everything was already in motion but she brought up so many really good logical points for him to to think about like. I said tiffany really harped on trying to get x. Out once she wants she realized that kylie didn't wanna get x. out she never changed her tactic as An alternate plan. Meanwhile hannah did everything she to try. And keep yourself off the block using the votes telling kaylynn at this point. It's just winning no matter what even if you worked together and you win something if you know. I don't win something. I might be in jeopardy going home. Made so many really really. Just good logical points about the in game of big brother of that i really. It really sucks it. Couldn't it couldn't have saved her from at least going off going on this week in geneva hannah also identifies that This is like a loyalty test from Thailand about How am i gonna stay loyal to tiffany in this conversation. Yeah and i think you know. I think it gets. It gets good sam to the point of whether it's like who is being prioritized in terms of for you know like who like who can kyla trust because he's already had some difficulties on figuring out who is loyal to him but also like what what is what is hannah's objective here and you know. Hannah picked up quickly. Like this is a test based on how he is questioning me like this is but then she's like i'm i'm gonna say like honestly like i know that if i'm sitting next to you know like x. d. i don't know high would have the votes to stay and like i think that's of focused on the whole idea that we know that there's at three that's kind of consistently staying together and really collins on the other side but he in reality as we see he targets to people who were like we are like willing to you know work with you like we know that we need you. And that's where. I think lake the kind of moved to nominee. You know like tiffany. Hannah is really just kind of not necessarily the best move for his game because also that's the thing is when he moves forward they have that voting block there that he has to deal with and navigate with and he. We don't know for sure really who what numbers he really has like. Even though he has this you know the gentleman thing with with acts. We don't really know like how far it's going to get get them. Latest made this at basically final six. So it's like have they really even established like serious trust-building at this point. It's kinda late in the game so Yeah you know calendas. His continues information-gathering Hannah and hannah tries especially she can to kind of make colin think about. Well i know this sort of situation. And i know that like for me like i i would probably lose to acts. You know that sort of situations she puts you know puts all those things on the table for him to think about. But it's like even even though like she offers out these points. You know colin just things. Otherwise well kyle has a big decision to make and at this point. The game for kyle and You know he's got a break promises and even has to break some hearts including his.

Here's the second part of my interview with mike nelson founder of four fifteen digital mike. Welcome back to the mark podcast. Thanks great to have you back here. Yesterday we talked a lot about some of the competition between facebook and google and i think the big takeaway is. Prices are not going down. There's more and more. Advertisers flocking to digital media mostly traditional advertisers shifting away from traditional advertising channels into digital and the first place they go facebook and google and we basically talked about how the rising cost of inventory isn't necessarily a bad thing because the conversion rates on these major platforms is also increasing so the return on investment is at least ecstatic. If not getting better talk to me about what direction you think. These ad platforms aren't going to go as they continue to see more competition more advertisers and the rise of some of the other smaller social networks increasing so. What are the trends that. I'm really confident in because we're starting to see it and again. The people that were leading. This was facebook not google but one of the trends is really focusing on meta conversion events. Serve precursors to revenue. I think this is a lot of the commentary that you would hear about if you're buying tv ads or things like that eight hundred keith. Reaching how long are they listening to her. Michelle on average things like that. So the internet's world beat that because we were focused on sales and revenue but one of the trends that are definitely no. That's changing particularly on google side. Again catching up to facebook is. They're going to be creating an arc creating a story around other things the size sales. They're going to start saying. Hey how big is your remarketing audience pool. You shouldn't run campaigns to make your remarketing bigger that's the justification they're gonna start talking more and more about reach and frequency they are already creating being algorithms for bid to position. They're changing the definition of impression share. They're coming up in the actually just released announced in twenty nineteen the ability to have different conversion events for different campaigns. This is existed a long time in facebook so now and google. You can have google reps telling you. This campaign is purposes sales. If you're e commerce company but this campaign over here is purchased as the registration so that later you can turn them into sales. So they're going to be pitching that narrative in coming up with ways to actually track that stuff. Now there's two sides in every single coin so it's also going to develop is tiny in these more superficial conversion events to the actual revenue so if the platforms are starting to set up the ability to create these micro events right. They're essentially saying we're going to help you. Market people all the way down your funnel and instead of doing everything from it. Purchase conversion perspective. You're going to be able to set campaigns and evaluate them on lead generation ride nurturing and eventually conversion and retention so there's got to be two sides to that coin right. How do you understand the value of some of the up. The funnel stages talk to me about how you think about that and how are the platforms addressing. They are directly addressing that. And they're doing that in what is still a pretty subtle way. But i think it's going to be more in the forefront the way that they're doing this allowing offline conversion or in a use offline in air quotes. Because they're still talking about online businesses. That really. they're integrating your data's an individual. Advertisers aren't platforming. They're allowing you to import it so the narrative that i predict you can start seeing from google is not only the nsa. Hey even though you're e ecommerce company. You should have legion campaigns. They're going to counterbalance that by saying and you need to start importing ltv data on your users because google's platform gray free introducing users. And we don't want you tracking just the first sale but all subsequent sales that happened over the lifetime of that user. So they'll be more of that concept we might even allow you net right now with all fine conversion important as you have only ninety days to imports a conversion back to click you. They're going to increase that. There's also companies out there that are third parties that are doing really well. One of them that comes to mind is wicked. Reports and this is their entire value proposition. Import the lifetime. Value the user into google and facebook so that type of thinking in addition to the attribution thinking that we've had a few years is going to increase. Yeah that's interesting. You mentioned that the attribution portion of this has been around for a while. You can set up custom events and say google. I want you to try to optimize for conversion at this stage of my funnel. I wanted you to optimize for leeds. In which optimize for webinar registrations. I want you to optimize for conversions or demo request or whatever it is and now it comes back to ways where you're saying here is the value of that customer isn't there inherent risk for the advertisers to give google that full view of their business and their customer. Doesn't that help. Google just optimize on raised their prices up knowing what the value of your customers. Yes absolutely i think that. There's a notion of micro versus knackered thinking on the macro level definitively like that's the trend. And that's what's going to happen. So as an individual advertiser you can choose not to give google your data but the result is gonna be. You're not gonna stay with the competition near going to get you. They're going to be playing more nicely more friendly with google and they're going to win. We worked with a lot of clients who just refuse to give google any data. We can't do our jobs. Who and do their jobs and frankly a lot of times those businesses unless they have another acquisition channel like tv or radio. That works really. Well you just don't do while ago so you kind of need to play ball here and do it the right way. And if you're not willing to and frankly online advertising is maybe not free. So i understand that you can feed google your data and basically give them a picture of the value of your conversion so they can try to find people that are going to be more valuable right. You're going to create your like audience. Not just on who's converting but the value of those conversions. Is this something that you think. Facebook is going to do as well talk to me a little bit about not only facebook but some of the other downmarket platforms. How sophisticated are all of the platform is going to be with bringing in your actual conversion and let's call it revenue data. Yeah i think. This is one of the areas where google and facebook are actually at parody right now or what. I've usually been saying kind of leading attack a little bit in my mind so facebook also allows for offline revenue imports so we'll see which of them embraces that moore again. They haven't made it a big part of their narrative when they're selling their tools. But it's definitely going to be in my mind such a big trend. That if your core if you're snapchat you're not merging back in data with your advertiser data and a very accurate and precise way in google uses the g. click. Id facebook uses the facebook click. Id so that all of the reports in the still populated search query geo etcetera and advertisers can still see that but if the five firms aren't offering that and really being innovative in that area. Then yeah. I don't think advertisers are going to be able to justify spending their money on those platforms. What we have right now is a very narrow window of opportunity for third party. Platform leveraging the api's that are available from google or etc to create a nice ecosystem around this sort of like that grief period of time. Eight years ago there was kind of white space for marines and can choose to do automation so it snowed emerging thing. We'll see what happens but it's going to have to be a trend in order to justify media spend it so it sounds like the takeaway here. Is that basically creating this loop of feedback for goule to not only understand who's clicking what. The conversion events are on your website but also what revenue that is generating is the future of all of the platforms whether it be google facebook or even some of the market platforms. And you're saying that there's an opportunity for third party data providers to start building the technology to help brands optimize their feeds into the advertising platforms to make sure that their data is being sinked correctly. Yeah that's correct. And also the role of account managers shifting in eight years ago. We were doing a lot of bidding and we were needing more creative focused etc now. A big part of my job for example is to make sure that. I'm getting the data the way that facebook google needs to make those decisions and dealing with that data is not an easy task. It makes the job of being an ad purchaser a little bit more technical than it used to be. We have to work a lot more with developers and engineers and understand databases better to be stronger in analytics and the reason why again. It's just because god to make sure we're giving the platforms that right dina. Otherwise it's going to anti optimize forgiving. It the wrong thing. We spend twenty to thirty percent of my job. Now is just giving google and facebook the right data if you can believe that versus before we'd spent about ten minutes setting that up six years ago and never even think of it again. And what percentage that time is allocated to talking on podcasts zero. We're at point one now and i appreciate it and just for the record everyone mike. This isn't your first podcast. But you can get it by going to lincoln dot com slash martell again. It's one hundred dollars off of your first linked in campaign but going the lincoln dot com slash. Mar tech okay. Because they're still talking about online businesses..

"Place the right bit on that. So i think that's how they kind of counterbalance the notion of. Hey you have all these advertisers have all these users. How do we make good nashes in talk about machine. Learning is really about just making a match that makes sense in the being appropriately for click. I think i'll add onto the list of things that you mentioned. Google knows about you. If you're using the chrome browser or an android phone. They probably have your browsing history. If you're using g mail the probably scanning through emails not a person but through machine learning to understand. What are the topics that irrelevant to you. They have a full picture of your entire life. And that's why google is such an incredible company and they have an incredible amount of data on each individual user and the machine learning that they're building helps them map with the right ad experiences. Not only from a monetization perspective but also user experience perspective right. I think this is why some of the search engine marketing platforms are struggling right now. The marines and the ken shoes in aquatic minds of the world. What they're saying is hey determine bids for you using my machine learning my proprietary algorithms etc. Frankly those companies even though some of them are generated tens of millions of dollars. They don't have the rnd budget nor the brain power of google number one number two and this is something that is just not available. They don't have a lot of people are worried about the down of that. Google has and passing it to marketers as a user. You're worried about that lia's actual marketers. We know that we don't have the data alien and making these sort of based off of males aged twenty four who search google seven times on cobra. They don't give us these opportunities in is just not something we can do. So it's really on google to make all those decisions and that's why they usually outperform that they're already big platforms as well. So we just have all sorts of information to your point with this information. They're able to get the higher. Cpc's they want will also escalating conversion rates so they can continue to hit advertisers goals. So originally the question. I asked you is. What is google doing to counterbalance the rising cost of their inventory. Based on what you're saying. They're not they want the inventory to get more expensive right. They want to continue to monetize their platform. What they're focused on is if you're going to spend a dollar making sure that you're getting more value over time because they have access to this rich data. They're really focused on driving conversion rates. More than they're trying to manage the cost of their inventory. Yeah they're trying to make better matches between users and advertisers so before machine learning. It could have been a scenario aware advertiser a pretty much always wins an auction of because some users convert well for that advertiser in some dome they can only pay seventy five cents or click now. The scenario is advertiser aid. Because it's the leader of the space is a dollar click. But they only the ad eighty percent of the users because advertiser be is also paying a dollar per click because the remaining twenty percent natch advertiser eat better so that way tools got a dollar click instead of seventy five cents a click. You have more advertisers. That are sort of getting exposure. Even though they reduced the number of ads that are available in google. Because they're getting better matching through machine learning so going back to the competition between google and facebook the two largest players in the digital advertising space if google is focusing on increasing their conversion rates without decreasing the cost of their inventory. But they're facing competition from facebook wouldn't the competition from facebook. Drive the cost of their inventory down by their seeing competition. They need to lower prices to retain their advertisers. Doesn't seem like that's actually happening. But from an economic standpoint right more competition in theory should drive prices down. It's not happening. What's on yeah. I think there's a few things i mean. There's a lot of other transit of meal example and these numbers aren't going to be precise. But there's an advertiser that i've been working with for ten years. They were spending about thirty cents a click ten years ago in their costs. Brazil was about twenty bucks nowadays. They're spending three dollars. A click and their costs reveals. Twenty two bucks so machine learning on the google site itself l. but also advertisers are just getting a lot better at cro right conversion rate optimization. Also we have more data from google analytics. We can create custom web experiences on the user level as well so not only. Is google helping with a better see. Vr the advertisers are also getting better at making optimization. So because of that and you can just look at the data from google and facebook. There's never never been a sustainably long period where cbc or inventory prices have decreased. The always always go up. And i'm always sitting here and i'm like i don't understand how we're going to keep up with his inflated. Cbc seems impossible but we find a way right through better machine learning on google side ads serving more testing than conversion optimization etc. I think my takeaway here is that the inventory on the major platforms on facebook and google is going to continue to get more expensive and one of the reasons why that's happening is you're getting the larger brands at the consumer packaged goods. The auto manufacturers the older companies with the big marketing budgets are moving more and more of their investment away from traditional media television and print into digital advertising and that trend is happening at a macro scale on that. Because i was actually the second point i was gonna make you have the direct response advertisers. Getting better at converting users and you have the non directory ons people shifting and still just coming up with ridiculous goals. There are a lot of big advertisers out there. Nor just like i just wanna pay for clicks. And they're really kind of messing up the auction prices as well because they're not doing from a performance perspective and they wanna gross in keeps shifting more and more money and so that's a really good scenario that you bring in in his wealth right so even though there's increased competition not only between google and facebook from some of the other ad platforms that are happening with the media getting more expensive. There's two things that are going to happen. One conversion rates have to go up to keep advertisers happy and on the platforms or two people are just gonna get priced out of these types of digital ad platforms. And they're going to have to go look for their media and advertising in other channels with that said. I think that's good stopping point for today. And that wraps up. This episode of the mar tech podcast. Thanks to mike nelson a co founder of four fifteen digital joining us in part to our interview. Which we're gonna publish tomorrow. Mike is gonna tell us about his predictions. For which way google and facebook are going to take their ad platforms in the not too distant future. "Is really just developing capabilities on youtube like capturing leads from the actual ads and things like that so because they think face this challenge of making people buy when they didn't say they wanna buy a search to. I've been really well with creative development and having just much better data and any ideas p. one on display bender through whatever means they gathered that data. So that's the interesting thing to me is that you're saying that people are shifting. Their budgets still more towards facebook. Even though it's kind of popular to say people are shifting budgets away. And i think of google ads being farther down the funnel because a consumer is likely already showing some sense of purchase intent right when they're searching for a keyword the closer to buying and they are when they're on facebook and they're just browsing not knowing what they're looking for. Why is facebook performing better than google. If it is higher up the funnel to clarify a little bit as well. I do think there is the notion of budget shifting. But in general e. see in this is backed up by a lot of data is the ad mark is also growing right so it could be hey was spending three hundred a month on google. Then only one hundred k. On facebook i'm gonna increase face also up to three hundred cases usually that's what's happening and that's what we're looking for because we want to buy media performance as is not on a budget pieces so just to clarify that there is some shifting but there's also just a lot of growing in terms of your question what we see usually from click through perspective and this is a gross generalization is that we get the conversion rates on facebook to be eighty to one hundred percent of what they are in google. To your point who will see the are has been better because it's lower in the funnel. There is intent improve their audience capabilities. So that you can. You know you. And i are different people if we searched for the same thing even though researchers the same thing we most likely don't have the equal chance of finding it so they've improved that audience data so that they can make decisions on who they should get more for less on anyways there see. Vr's keep going up. But google media is just so profoundly expensive particularly on search. We're talking about in a lot of verticals nowadays. Three four five six dollar clicks in the united states sometimes team twenty th year abi environment. There are very very few cases where you can buy clink on google for thirty cents and there's still a fair number of cases on facebook where you can buy thirty cents because of that. Cbc different. that's where we get. the high. bruce lee over generations claim that facebook can be more efficient from a performance perspective than google self to function of. Cvc differences is the short answer. There what i'm hearing is that you can target tightly on facebook and the overall inventory is still cheaper even though the inventory on facebook is getting noticeably more expensive than i do think. That's the reason why you're seeing more opportunity for these smaller developing social networks the chorus the lincoln's of the world. And i wanna throw twitter in there. Although i'm not really sure what's happening with their ad platform so it's interesting to put this in the perspective of google versus facebook. But i actually think of this in the sense of. What is the most mature marketing channel. Google's been around longer than facebook. Their media is going to get more expensive over time and we're seeing that happen in facebook as well. The more people are flocking towards those channels. The more expensive the media gets because there's just more competition from a buyer perspective. Let's take google as the example because they're the most mature advertising channel. What are they doing to counterbalance the rising cost in their media. Before i get into that which preview that answer is really machine. Learning and tcp. Dating i do wanna address quickly the notion of fill rates so there are a lot of advertisers on google because it's immature platform. Google still allows arm people like ask dot com buying auctions. A bunch of things like that where there are dozens of advertisers that have millions and millions of keywords match types are really aggressive nowadays. There's not even a true exact match that exist anymore. You can't just say who go when somebody searches for baseball cards. I only want to show up for baseball cards. It doesn't work that way. It'll show all sorts of variations. So because you have all these are players. A lot of advertisers did platform a lot of matching. That's pretty aggressive. They're fill rate is extremely high. If you go to google and you search for something on google and you don't see that that doesn't mean nobody's buying it. There's probably dozens of people trying to buy your in test group. Your control maybe. That's it's more so that google's like all these advertisers trying to bid there not even good enough to show you the user an ad. They're not paying me enough to show you an ad. So if they're not showing up. It's because google wants more money and you know what advertisers will see. They're not showing up and they'll pay more money anyways before we get into. How will is counteracting. Cpc's Understanding that fill rate and the number of advertisers on google stoutly. I you can't buy long help you or anyone. That doesn't really exist school's gonna make matches with short keywords along keywords automatically and it's just a lot of competition there's a lot proof of that so that understood right. Google fill rate is high because there are enough advertisers that are buying broad match keywords. That are basically able to sell out their inventory but on some level that means that their inventory gets more and more expensive which gets ad buyers out of the marketplace. So what are they doing to counterbalance the rising cost of their inventory. Exactly i mean i think google is probably a pre strategic company and they realize in order to retain advertisers need to have good performance so they let a lot of people in the door but the way that they cater to individual advertisers is really really smart the way that we can ensure that an individual advertisers successful in my mind and really the agency. Minds is using gpa in smart bidding. So leveraging. the machine. Learning that google has been building up over decade plus. There's this notion of machine learning as new and things like that we've been using target. Cpa dinning for almost a decade so they've been investing all of that time and probably hundreds of millions. I mean if you told me you'll invest in a billion dollars in machine learning. I think that's probably reasonable so what they're doing for. Individual advertisers is when a user goes to google and then make a query. there's all sorts of extra data. That google has so just to run you through the list of what that extra data is. They know your device. Obviously they know your location. They know your location intent as well. So there's two different types of location where you're physically located and if you have an intense ridge different location so you might be carrying something like trips to france. But you're in the united states who has actually to location indicators. There they are taking into account. What time you're doing something as well. So that's time today also day week. They're taking into account whether or not you've been to an advertiser they wanna serve for in the past so remarkable your last fourteen days. They're going to know that they're gonna know what browser you're running on. So if you as an advertiser under optimize chrome experience aka your see. Vr is under benchmark. They're they're not gonna show your as roma's often they're gonna take into account you the user. What language is you're setting set. What operating system your demographics. They know most likely if you're a male or female they know your income. They know all sorts of stuff. They know very important. What you actually searched for as well so the actual thing you typed into google advertiser doesn't know that they just have a keyword was just sort of a concatenation of search.

Happy to be here and looking forward to talking about. Google absolutely always great to connect with a local vendor. I see that you're out here in the san francisco bay area and i'm excited to hear a little bit about your take on what's going on with google and the other performance marketing channels. Let's start off. Can you give me an overview on your company and a little bit about your background. So i've got a co founder. His name is oral kwanza. He and i started the agency for fifteen digital about a year ago before that. Both he and i were working at various places in house agencies etc and. We started the agency. We really wanted to make sure that there were boutique. Vendors out there you did a really really good job high effort high labour. Obviously high-skilled folks. That was kind of our vision putting it as simple as possible so again. It's been about a year and we've had a lot of success. We've ten employees. I also moved from san francisco myself along the egeria. So we've got two offices and things are going really great We've got maybe fifteen or sixteen clients all shapes and sizes all over the country. Some making a couple of billion dollars a year in revenue which is incredible some also just local businesses in our area of walnut creek and in a. So it's been really fun. We focus on google and facebook linked in and and really just the things that are most important for businesses online advertising. Roach so congratulations. It sounds like it's been a banner year for you personally and also for the company professionally. The first year is always the hardest one. And it sounds like you're nailing with flying colors talk to me about some of the channels that you're applying you know have billion dollar revenue companies and. I'm sure some that are smaller. And as you mentioned more boutique. What's the hot performance marketing channel. And what's your go-to strategy. I think a lot of times you'll through the reader even here. Facebook is down to homes etc. I think a lot of this stuff is really a bit of hyperbole. Frankly at the end of the day will we're finding most success in most of the time is facebook. that's gonna be true mostly for lee giannini commerce and then google is well. Google is going through a lot of changes. They think that's back in the day. I've been doing search for twelve years. Now which is kinda crazy since i'm only thirty one years old luckily but anyways it's been twelve years back in the day we would just by keywords and it would work make money. It was pretty easy. You would hire agency back then because you didn't know how to use google as editor where you didn't have time or you didn't even know the basics like what's broad match what's phrase mash. Things like that but google is really feeling. I think that heat from facebook still and they've put a lot of emphasis on treating audience approaches. Facebook is all about the audience. Entreated emphasis google was all about keywords before so now is equally about keywords and audiences so with that advancement think was catching up a bit and because of that we can do facebook and google and those are super successful and then increasingly in the b. to b. space. We're doing a lot more on. Lincoln's ad platform a little bit on chorus at platform. That the reach their women being searched doing well like always just smaller volume gemini not really had much success there to boot boola and native advertising. I think is trending but some of the performance. There can be not nearly as good from the direct on stanton so one of the things that sticks out to me across the multiple channels that you mentioned right there some sort of conflict and it's a battleground between these large players and there's this host of up and comers whether they're the native networks or some of the smaller social networks like you mentioned core and linked in obviously established companies but still developing ad platforms but the competition between facebook and. Google is really interesting to me. I think of facebook as the replacement for the display networks. The old yahoo. Aol where you're taking a visual form of advertising used to be spreading across the major portal partnerships. But they've taken all of the data and targeting capability. That was so unique with google right because you were able to target and keywords. But they're applying it into a display medium. Talked me about how you're seeing the targeting capabilities being different. And how is the delivery of the ad unit whether it be text based or imagery focused. Why does that impact. What the company is are thinking about in terms of how they're setting up. Their targeting capabilities is to address so too stuffy said earlier in the question. I completely agree with you. I think facebook has really taken away a lot of the inventory that advertisers may have invested in the past on display networks. What we see on facebook is the validity of you through conversion is much higher. There is a behavior user season ad on facebook. And then we'll go search for on google. That's the claim that a lot is key vendors have made and i've always thought it was a bit silly over exaggerated we do tests. We sort of see the same thing. So i agree with you. There's been this shift from display into facebook. Because of that i think google facebook start really our competitor but the reality is they really are. I mean i've seen advertisers shift million dollar. A month budgets almost entirely from google to facebook over the last five years or so. It's pretty crazy on the side of things. I think that facebook had a unique challenge. That google never really have to deal with. Had this challenge of selling people to users that had no intent to buy all through the driven by impulse and things like that. So i think they've put a lot more emphasis on the creative units. They invented in my mind. The carousel or perfected it and now google copies it and they're g mail ads. Facebook was the medium even though youtube was around earlier when we were talking about video ads. If you years ago everybody was talking about facebook video ads and at least in my community and also our adspend and youtube was in a lot of ways still is an afterthought for video ad spending.

"It's time for another installment of sea hunt. It's still alive here on scuba shack radio. In this time we are headed back to season two for episodes. Thirty three titled proof of guilt which premiered exactly sixty two years ago today on august sixteenth. Nineteen fifty-nine in this episode. Mike is in the hawaiian islands where he is working for. A manufacturing company testing out underwater motion picture and television cameras in the opening scene. He is diving with huge film camera. The plankton is up cutting visibility but is also bringing in fish and the man eating sharks we see a number of white tip circling and they're getting closer and closer as mike sees their cold is they're getting too close for comfort so mike decides to head to the shallows when he gets to the pierre he sees a note under water on the slate that says come up. Mike tells us that there is greater threats up there than the sharks when he gets out of the water. Mike is met by lieutenant. Dave cal cal. Coa of the honolulu police department he asks why the new while dave says it wasn't from him. The camera moves to a woman who says it was from her. her name. is sandra otani or sandy. She says she put the no down. There you see. She owns now lua island where she grows. Cultured pearls offshore. Someone is stealing her pearls. And she needs. Mike's mike's help and his cameras to get the evidence that dave needs to arrest them might tell sandy that he won't give her the camera as they only go with him. Sandy smiles until mike's that she wants to go with the cameras that might smooth operator. The scene now shifts to the beach on sandy's island where both sandy and mike are gearing up to assure dive out to the pearl beds. Sandy shows mike the pearl beds in his getting angry underwater as she finds the broken oyster shells as they are walking out of the water. Mike tell sandy that it is the perfect place for scuba. Hit and run. Sandy tells mike that some of the pros have been growing for thirty years. Mike her exactly how they cultivate the pearls. Sandy says that it's a secret that came with her father from japan but since they won't but since she won't tell them the secret should make it up to them with the best dinner he ever had now. The next morning mike is ready to set a trap for the pro robbers. He's hiding in the rocks with a pair of binoculars in his full scuba rig looking for any suspicious activity. He spots a boat but he doesn't see the divers go into the water on the other side of the boat. He does however see their bubbles and heads out with his camera to catch them in the act at the pro beds. Mike hides behind a rock with the cameras. The divers approach as they start to rob the beds. Mike starts to film but he gets careless. He says the sound of the camera alerts. The divers wanted a bad guy circles around in surprises. Mike they get into a fight. The other bad guy grabs the camera and pulls out the film now while the underwater fight is going on. Sandy was watching from the beach and she suspects trouble and his racing to the pro beds with her boat. The bad guys rip mics regulator out of his mouth but as they are scared off by the sound of sandy's boat. Mike is left helpless. Miraculously mike doesn't drown he recovers we see some eagle raising the background as he heads to the surface he's blowing bubbles all the way up we now see the camera resting on the bottom. Mike struggles back on. The boat is gasping for air. A sandy asks him if he is all right in the next scene. Now we see mike lying on a chair. Sandy's giving him not some tea. He says he doesn't want anymore and starts to work on a plan to catch the bad guys lieutenant dave. Sandy says she wants to let them have the pearls. Because they're not worth mike's life. But mike says it's not about the pearls anymore. It's a personal grudge. He needs dave's help to put them on tv now. Mike is going to use the underwater television camera to catch the. The's he shows. Dave how it's going to work as he pans across the island. Just mike points to camera towards dave in. Sandi dave says hey look at the prettiest girl in blue island has sandy strikes. Oppose the camera. And she says she's the only girl on lulu island as mike looks to take off underwater. Sandy gives him a big kiss for luck. And mike says he's never had any better luck back underwater with the tv camera. Mike is waiting for all three villains as they are. Now jumping in the water to steal the pearls but this time one of them has a spear gun. Mike has the tv camera pointed at the pro beds. But there's a problem. The bad guys are coming from the wrong direction and they're not on tv. The ambush mike. Who's only hope is to move maneuver them into the frame of a camera. Chaos prevails as they fight and slash at one. another finally might get them to the pearl beds. The spear gun is fired and strikes the bed. Fortunately sandy is watching and as yells to dave look at this cast off now. The cops are headed to the fight during the fight. Mike's left arm is slashed but he continues fighting pulling a regulator out of one of the bad guys. Mouth just then. He sees the to hawaiian police officers free diving or swimming trucks. And says they look like angels with the odds now even justice prevails and the bad guys lose again in the final scene near back on the shore of an allure island. Mike's arms bandage. Dave asks in the. He needs a ride back to honolulu. Sandy tells dave that mike is going to be on vacation. Dave says the sandy. Nobody likes a cop. Sandy says she will give him the best testimonial but also gives mike. Another big kiss to which mike replies that is the best testimonial in my life. I'm not exactly sure where this episode was filmed for the top side scenes but it sure does look like hawaii however you never know when it comes to television or the movies. The part of sandy was played by nobu mccarthy and kendrick played lieutenant dave calcutta and here's one final interesting tidbit. This episode was remade in the nineteen eighty-seven version of sea hunt and it was titled pearl beds. And just so you know. I'm still trying to get my hands on that. One thousand nine hundred eighty seven series with ron ely. Maybe someday

"Personally i will tell you spend the money but if you're not convinced are just want you to reach out to be personally really connect over that issue. What about data for me. It would be. My biggest struggle was fatherless-ness. I'd never met my biological father My mother was married three times and she's single day so three marriages six keys. Full baby daddies fatherless-ness. I'm the only one of my mother's six children that never met his father. And then when i found out the true story he was delayed. So here i am trying to figure out this journey. Now that i'm a father but i don't have that compass. I don't have that northstar saw. I'm forced to try to figure this out myself. I knew how to be a provider like baltimore. Keita's mothers care of everything but after being divorced man. I don't have that man that i can call and say i'm dealing with this man. I tried this. I'm doing this. So now i don't know how to step beyond the realm of being just a provider so when i got to the g i'm around other men that may have also struggled with that same thing but at the same time we're able to hold each other arm and arm hand in hand and share our stories about how you know. There's another brother that may not have made a either not have strong relationship with their biological father or may not have met their biological father so by me share stories of how i had to deal with that internally and then now i'm able to to share that with another brother i'm able to share the story of my journey with my own two sons and now have children. I think it's important for men that struggle with fatherless-ness for even having you got brothers like mike nelson and his story with his father inches of a nominal story. And when you hear that an for all of us in this room we walk that walk with him on that journey so for me it would be fatherless-ness and being able to come together with other men.

"It's time for another installment of sea hunt. It's still alive here on scuba shack radio. This time. we're going back to episode one of season two and it was titled the alcatraz story this episode premiered on january fourth nineteen fifty nine at the time. Alcatraz was still very much an operation as a prison and it did not close until march of nineteen sixty three. The alcatraz story starts off with a scene of several convicts breaking rocks on the cliffs of alcatraz when all of a sudden one of the convex Falls in and then you see him. Swim-down before surfacing when the guards fish him out but wait. There's a mysterious fishing boat. The olympia watching what's happening. The convict circling is arm as if he's signaling fishing boat the scene shifts to the boat and three guys say they need to find mike nelson. Now we're underwater with mike nelson and he's testing flares for company. When all of a sudden an anchor comes crashing down dangerously close to him and an a skin. Diver comes diving down. Mike is really mad. And he's ready to chew him out when he gets to the surface but they get to the surface in all the guys start apologizing and they say they've came a long way to see mike and mike ask them why to bury mitzi no. They introduced themselves as the brand brothers. Larry johnny and frank they claim to be abalone divers and need to to learn how to scuba dive so they can find the abalone. Mike advises them on the law. But they say hey there lotto buying brothers so he agrees to teach larry and johnny how to scuba dive for three hundred dollars. And we're going to start tomorrow morning at eight thirty. But mike tells them any of them goof off. It's over so the next morning they're out diving. Mike says they're easy to teach. He's going over the equipment the safety procedures in the buddy system underwater now. They're in triples doubles and singles tanks. Bit of everything after their first lesson which by the way lasted five hours underwater and they were below sixty feet might tells the brothers no more diving while he heads back to town jeep to get the tanks fill and he gives them a book on scuba diving. Do read larry tells mike okay teach will be good he had. That's not gonna happen. Mike returns to find the boat empty. And there's bubbles in the water. Larry johnny or diving again just franks shows up and mike and frank get into a fight before mike knocks him down gets into his gear and enters the water to retrieve the two brothers before they kill themselves. Mike finds them underwater. And it looks like they're doing something like the dive master gear exchange. Now they take off and mike goes in hot pursuit for some reason. Johnny turns around rips. Mike mask off. Mike has defined it. Put it on and clear it. Just in time to find larry running out of air. Mike grabs larry and buddy breathes with him to the surface now. Mike is really mad. Schools over another five minutes and all their problems would have been over. They'd be dead his advice. Don't play games with the ocean. The brothers gibb tell mike. They were just practicing. What was in the book. Mike gave them. Mike doesn't really believe them but they take off and as the boat depart mike find frank's wallet on the pier. Apparently he lost it. Doing to fight with mike. He's not frank brennan but frank bronson the plot thickens. Wonder if my god is three hundred dollars the scene now shifts to fisherman's warf and mike is getting the low down on the bronson brothers. They haven't been abalone fishermen for years and there's a fourth brother mark now mike looking for their boat but he spots it on often abandoned peer in oakland and decides that he needs to scuba dive out to see what's up. The board is empty. But before mike can get on board the three bronze brothers show up his only option. Hide under the boat when the engine starts. He grabbed a dangling. Bow-line and hitches a ride. They're up to no good. The pressure is tremendous as he hangs on an fears of the blades of the prop behind them. But the boat finally slows then stops. And larry johnny jump in on scuba and have an extra set a gear. What's going on. Mike surfaces and sees their right off alcatraz. It's two against one. Nothing new for mike nelson. He follows them down to some rocks underwater where they deploy a surface buoy. Then we see a convict one zero nine eight six. That would be mark bronson. He died into the water now. Mike gets it as he sees the convict getting into a wet suit. And putting on the gear. Mike shoots a flare off to signal. The guards on alcatraz hoping it works. Mike is now fully rigged mask wetsuit. Tank regulator weight belt and knife and their high tailing it off against a strong title current. But larry turns and he spots mike. He's going to fight a rearguard action while johnny and markswoman. It's a knife fight. And it's a good one larry's tough clever and slippery but might get behind. Him cuts his air hose and brings him to the surface. And that's where we see. Mike's knife into larry's first stage. The flare did its job. And there's a patrol boat from the island coming on the scene that's one bronson in the bag on the boat. They followed the brothers bubbles and when they catch up mike dies back in lights off a flare and pokes it at the brothers and another massive underwater fight breaks out mike pulls off marks masks shuts air off and shoves him johnny he then puts johnny in a stranglehold and brings the two brothers to the surface. Mike has thwarted escape attempt. Larry says on the boat. It was a pretty good scheme. Yeah mike doesn't think so. Wow this first. Episode new year was jam packed with some great underwater fight scenes. I guess they really wanted to get everyone excited about the show again. And you most definitely will recognize johnny bronson. That was leonard. Nimoy yes mr spock. He shows up again. So that's the alcatraz story from nineteen fifty-nine the first episode of season. Two of seon. Hope you enjoyed it. I'll be back again soon with another installment of seon. It's still alive here on scuba shack radio.

Sea Hunt - It's Still Alive: Point of No Return

"It's time for another installment of seahorn. It's still alive in this time. We're going to season four episode one titled point of no return and it premiered on january seventh nineteen sixty one sixty years ago. The episode starts out with a boat pulling up alongside coast guard cutter. The boat is dropping off a reporter. Dorothy may brooke. She is heard that. Mike nelson is on board and figures. There must be a big story. If he's involved. The captain of the cutter tells dotty that you'll have to wait three days to talk to mike. The research is about mike. Living and working out of the scuba sphere. A two hundred and fifty feet now. That was right at the beginning of the work. That the davy jacques cousteau and ed link. We're doing on underwater habitats so sea hunt was a little ahead of the game after dadi get some basic information from the three scientists on board the cutter. The scene shifts to mike underwater. He's in doubles swimming with a big bag of rocks. And he's going entire inside the scuba sere. The scuba sphere is small diving bell shaped habitat with liquid helium and oxygen tanks. Act out once. Mike is inside. He gets a call from the booth. Lieutenant totally tells him that a tropical storm is heading your way rather than hall him up. It seems that mike is going to ride it out so he strings up. His hammock gets ready for bed in gets into the sack and because he says he can't raid the refrigerator like he normally does. He settled for a bottle of liquid protein. Well you guessed it. The big storm hits and as the cutters tossed about so is the scuba sere. Suddenly one of the tanks cured to the side of the sphere breaks loose and crashes down on the hatch rendering it inoperable. Mike can't fix it and now they can't bring them up and properly decompress. The project engineer vic jennings says it will take a day to make a new hatch. Should they cut him loose. They try to get them off the bottom and ride it out but discovers fear is being dragged it gets caught on a coral formation. Two hundred fifty feet. Mike gears up with his doubles and he has some additional small tanks between the double cylinders. Not sure what they are. But there's copper tubing Spiraling up to the vows on his. Saunders looks like kind of like a still. Maybe it's helium. They never really say as his fear breaks free. Mike reid it along until the cable and telephone connections part and luckily to screw this. Fear settles when the bottom in an upright position. So mike can go back inside and he says that he needs to spend his second night in this chamber of ours. I gotta tell you mike wetsuit. Looks pretty beat up in this episode starting to peel or something like that will now. The storm has passed the cutter realizes that mike is no longer attached. They have a new door but now they have to find a habitat might goes outside and tries to inflate one of his marker. Booties but it won't work at eight atmospheres so he takes out a balloon. Blows it up a bit ties it off to a line and sends it up. Will you guessed it it bursts now. He reverts to filling up a pair of denim jeans tied off at the bottom. I remember this from my time in the navy where you could use your pants. As type of life preserver on. Mike sends the inflated pants to the surface they briefly mark the location before collapsing. But lieutenant totally thought he saw something so they stay in the area back inside scuba sphere. Mike says that he needs to conserve. Air and pray then. He remembers something from this cub scout. Days and concocts a plan to use his wetsuit. Top as a surface marker buoy. He goes back outside. Fills it up and shoots it to the surface and then ties it off to the scuba sphere dadi and or intently scanning surface suddenly dadi spots to wet suit top. Well the next thing we see. Is mike nelson signs wetsuit. Top two hundred and fifty feet dragging a new hatch cable and telephone line across the bottom. He fixes the hatch. Attach is the cable and splices in the telephone. It's cold wet work he says and he's ready to rejoin the human race. Might get back inside. He hits the hammock and sleeps through the hours of decompression. They have to bang on the sphere to wake him up once. Mike opens the hatch up. Pops dotty to give him a big hug. Mike says he must be in heaven. 'cause this is the angel he's been dreaming about what are the best of my knowledge. This is the only episode. That dadi mayfield was in. Although it appears that from the dialogue from lake that daddy was intent on marrying mike nelson or as as he puts it put a ring through his nose. Dorothy mayfield was played by the actress. Joyce meadows whether there wasn't a lot of diving in the point of no return but mike nails nelson was well ahead of the likes of george. Bon jacques cousteau and egg link in deep sea. Just trying to scare you. See jack confesses that it was all his fault that l. s. t. four to seven seven sank during the attack. It says he's he steered the ship into a reef where it sank and that the enemy didn't do it at all. Tom is very angry now. Jack tells suzy the ship sinking was all his fault. Susan doesn't care. She understands just then. Mike produces his find a piece of metal from japanese shell. That shank sank the four to seven seven. Jack still a hero a synthetic hero. Well i guess. Hollywood took a lot of liberties here. Let's see an ls t. Operating independently in the caribbean by itself doing battle with either a japanese ship or submarine seems a little farfetched. But as we know from mike nelson. Nothing is improbable.

Sea Hunt - It's Still Alive - Cave Diving

"Off It's time for another installment of Sea Hunt. It's still alive. And today we're going back to season 2 episode 21 for cave diving cave diving Premier package on May 24th 1959 in this episode. Mike is working with a geologist George Brian who is searching for uranium in an underwater cave. George has been doing his diving with his wife Susie up until now but needs Mike helped to explore further and do more work. They're diving off the boat Olympia with its Captain pops. Mike and George hop in and swim down with her watertight geiger counter. Mike has a doubles and George's in a single tank as they approached the cave. They put the ear pieces from the geiger counter into their ear and they take out the probe Mike's off the Geiger counters chattering like magpies. All of a sudden things start to shake Mike is spinning around. George is at the cave entrance. It's an underwater landslide. When all the turbulence is over, there's a huge Rock blocking the entrance to the cave and George is trapped inside under a pile of rocks. Mike shines his light and injured signals back. Mike can't budget Iraq. So he heads back to the surface. He says he has less than an hour before Susie becomes a widow. Mike tells pops. He needs the ship-to-shore radio to call the pier and they need to bring out some big hooks to pull away the Rocks. He's talking really fast. George only has 46 minutes left now. He tells Pops that it's real bad. Now they're desperately scanning the surface for the help from the pier the boat rounds the point and gets there within 14 minutes Susie is on board in her scuba gear bag ready to help George is down to thirty minutes Suzy insists on helping Mike despite his objections. Now Mike and Susie make it to the caves entrance and struggle to get the anchors attached to the large Rock. Finally. They get them in place and Mike's ends up a flare for the boat to pull the rock the boat strains when suddenly the anchors Breakaway failure Susie is desperate trying to get into the cave. Mike is trying to calm her down and he said she has to be rough with her in the commotion Susie's air hose gets fouled and they have to Buddy breathe to the surface. Susie climbs on board the hooks won't work. She's crying pops is trying to comfort her. What will Mike do now? Here's where things really get interesting. Well, Mike just happens to have some Dynamite on board just in case you know, pop says that's kind of risky. Mike says there's no other option but like pops was in the Seabees in World War Two and says they use Gophers to carry a line through a pipe. So they concoct a plan to use a fish to thread the line off The Rock. Well, it just so happens. There's a barrel on Deck with a live fish might takes out the fish and ties a line around its tail and heads back down to the cave with the fish house and a speargun. He checks to see if George is still alive looks at his watch time is running out. He lets the fish go into the cave ties the fishing line to the heavier line and tries to log the fish back with his light like tries to grab the fish. It's too fast time for the speargun. He's got one shot takes dead aim, and our hero fish is a goner my calls in the fish pulls the line through and now has the heaving line around the rock ties the bowl and shoot a flare to the surface and Lifeboat cranks up its engine. Finally The Rock is pulled from the entrance my crushes in freeze George and brings him to the surface. Mike yells out. I got him and pop lets out a big Yahoo back on the boat. George and Susie are reunited. Mike is lounging now. They say George's leg will be okay. They're talking about the fish that saved George Susie says that were fish was Mike Nelson. As the episodes ends, they're talking about pops idea from when he was in the Navy and Pop's final line is I wasn't in the Navy. I was just the Seabees. Hm wonder what my CB friends would think of that now you might recognize George if you're of a certain age, that would be Herbert Anderson better identified with Dennis the Menace his father Henry Mitchell. Well, that was certainly not what we think of when we think about cave diving using a fresh to thread a line around Iraq is a little out there but if anyone can do it, it would be Mike Nelson on Sea Hunt. off
