"Welcome back to the ink sky yard podcast. The JD drew contract, right? That was a huge failure. But then in 2007, JD drew hit a Grand Slam to bring the Red Sox to the World Series. Can we think of any others? The Red Sox trading Manny Ramirez. Yeah, trading your beds player and franchise history, but no Jason bay's there, and he's somehow better than Manny Ramirez. The Red Sox trade Adrian Gonzalez and Josh Beckett to the Dodgers in a complete fire sale. They're giving up. They're waving the white flag while it doesn't matter. It gives them the financial flexibility to sign 7 bad players in the 2013 off season Shane victorino who was never good again after 2013. Johnny gums, who would never get again after 2013, Mike Napoli, who was never good again after 2013. Koji O'Hara, who was never good again after 2013, and they all lined up to win the 2013 World Series. I am beyond done with Red Sox fans acting as if every time they get a magical break, it is the first time that ever happened. I'm not saying Red Sox fans aren't owed something. Red Sox fans and you're going to want to clip this Red Sox fans. Red Sox fans are a good fan base. They're very passionate about good winning baseball. And when they need to bring the noise, they do. That's good. They are, however, Teflon, nothing sticks to them, they feel no pain and they create their own pain for situations that don't merit pain. And they continue to be rewarded in differing cycles with championship ish endings and good mojo endings. And Yankee fans pour their heart and soul into this team and never end up with the ending. Not it's been it's been 12 years. The regime is the same, the players are different. The regime can reload up to a certain point and pull people together and end up in playoff esque scenarios and end up flatlining again when the moment is at its biggest and brightest. And like I said earlier, I can't wait to see who the Yankees acquire and sign this off season who ends up disappointing while the Red Sox sign or acquire a lesser option who ends up succeeding. That's what I can't wait to. How is Corey Seager going to fail? Is he gonna start swinging and missing more after we sign him? Has Trevor's story gonna fail. Is he gonna sign a 7 year contract and then start arguing with the New York media and then come down with plantar fasciitis? Like, what is the outcome? What's gonna happen? It's always exciting to see. Are the ink he's gonna trade Luke Voight within the American League and he's gonna end up hitting 47 homers for the Oakland a's next year while the Yankees have DJ le mayhew at first base hitting two 64 with 12 homers. Is that what's going to happen? That's pretty interesting. Are they going to trade geo Rochelle? Does somebody want him? And then we're going to go, we have enough infield death. We don't need you or shallow, and then Corey Seager and Andrew Velasquez are the left side of the infield by June. Is that what's going to happen? It's always intriguing, which brings me to Aaron Boone versus not even versus Alex core. Just Aaron Boone in general, who say out like he was gone as soon as this game ended, but then again, this organization only seems to care about getting exactly where they got yesterday..

"But it's okay for them to go in. You know, risk all that, But you know, little spoiled millionaire. Stop. Stop it. Do you realize how dumb that sounds? No, you sound dumb. You have no like reality. You know, you're like, you know, I'm not out of touch because I get about their baby. This virus. It's fake. Everybody. We're done. We're done. We're done. We have to deal with idiotic callers. At times. That's an idiot. And I called you that You're an idiot. Fake Do do not look at the news do not realize how many people have died. Your the type of person why this disease is not getting under control. More. On 3123323776 Let's go to Mario is out on I 80 and Mario is Next. Hang on a second. Got you, Mario. What's going on, man? Thanks for having me on how you doing? I just wanted to make a quick mention on the positive covert tests by the Reds. And the tweet that you're red from Bob Nightengale kind of answered my question about the potential cancellation of tonight's game. But I was reading about the Davidson positive test, and it said that he tested Thursday played in the game Friday and then was Was Laundry positive on Saturday. Now with that said he played in the game on Friday. So who's to know how many other people he exposed and then come to find out Sunday? Mushtaq came down ill in the next cell was also scratched on the lineup for undisclosed reasons. So my point is basically Would there be any, you know, chance that the Cubs were kind of You weary of playing tonight because of what happened this weekend, but obviously nightingales that that it's unlikely but I just wanted to point that out. Well, I think that and again, That's what I appreciate your call. That's what Nightingale tweeted. I'm sure they conduce rapid tests on the Reds. I know the Cubs have not had not gone would a positive test on a tier one employees since they returned to play. They did not have Mike Napoli, one of their quality control coaches around the team at all he tested before they return. Tommy Hottovy was already cleared. He got it in late March and took him a month. He said. It was how he was very emotional about it. So this disease is riel. This disease is absolutely out there and we all have to be as careful as we possibly can. But going up against the Reds. I'm sure that they immediately tested everybody on Friday. They'll get those tests back yesterday and then Saturday, those tests will come back today and we'll find out we'll see if they're going to play 3123323776 Do you believe the Cubs and Socks will play their games tonight? "All Chicago baseball draft is we're getting exact. I did two really good teams. Lots of good hitters for playing a batting stats. A statue Joey Votto still available. He's on your Red's not on any of Chicago baseball team. I'm looking at the stats from last season, and I'm like, Oh, who's the leader? In average of cast thing is not on the team, and you can't pick him, not him now. So Miller is up to lead up the third round hit the first pick. He's got Bryant and Grand Doll. The second pick went to a dollar, who's got alloy and Anderson. I had the third pick. I took Rizzo and then buys Waddle with the fourth pick. He snaked back with a Braila and month and by the way, just to fill you in on some of my strategy. You understand? Moncada has already tested positive and gotten past Corona. So there's no, really so there's no, There's no really likelihood that he's going to miss time because of it. Thank you. He's really mean There's only like two guys of tested positive correct in Chicago baseball. Yes, over three Because Napoli you find you mentioned a boiler. He sounds player good point. No, Mrs Moran and the other guy. Hold on. Mike Napoli's available if you want intensive course owner I believe as well. Yeah, that was a shrewd move by water. I want avocado, but two I couldn't wait that it falls to me. Miller. Yeah, No, I I couldn't let you guys are really well prepared for this. I have to admit, really driving. I'm not just picking names. We've never played Waddle and I have never played fantasy bases. All right. So when the last time I do with the first pick in the third round, I will go ahead and select. I think Who's a good value on here? No way. Don't you think we were around the conference collars? What happened there? Man went on Bruce Smith. Honest. They're calling the I'm turning tryingto win this. I know you've spelled out. You spelled out some words before she's got I was going to take him before Moncada, actually, too. And then I got wise. I'm debating between two players here. Good because I know I'm not going to get both of them because I think the one of them will be gone. Um Ah could go with a cover white, so I know I can Daddy loves they're both Cubs Boom. They're both cup in his hand. A little bit here. It's my pick. Aiken. Tip whatever I want, Teo, look at him. Hey, had more Arbi eyes last year I'll go, Schwarber. Yeah, that's how I want it. Well, you took Harvey. So take that. Maybe a trade later in the season. All right, so ah, Dalla goes Schwarber. And I think I may take the other guy that you were thinking. But you know how I've said earlier already blurted out what I Sort of wanted. He's really good. I'm going. I'm still going to take Wilson Contreras, especially with the D. H. And now's when times get rough. No, it doesn't. I mean, I would happily Really? Go ahead while you got to Waddle has gotta break you, Inman Cottony snaking back So I have a snake. I'm saying right now is how the serpentine draft works a mommy make it stop. I mean, like I I really don't care about anybody right now. So he wants eight rounds. I thought two was fine. I'm not gonna lie. And that, too, is fine. How many players are we starting Miller In this league? We have four starters with two backups, OK? Who's going to play center field for the Cubs is I'm going to take Robert. I got to take it easy pick for you, I would have happened. I mean, that's why I wanted the last pick. I'm not gonna lie. I'm going all socks. You know what? Screw you. How waddled No one could comma sacks later. He's gotta brave Joliet. He's living with the wide socks, white socks, white socks. Go go. White Sox. I'm one more email found away from being a White Sox. And so But you heard me. I didn't hear that. What happened to your second pick? Thanks. Um I don't know who to go with right now. Tom Wattles on the clock of play second base for the White Sox. Well, it's Lurie Garcia right now is that magical wages called on Wait a second, you time out, mister. You time yourself out. You put yourself in timeout. This's why I knew we could do more than six rounds. I wanted to do eight players and we're Waddle stumped through three. I'm going, Tio. Taking in hat. I was hoping that you would not say him. I think you did very well. I mean, for all your belly aching to get Robert and half there. I mean, he's going to start he It's a lot of home run. Dinger Dinger dinger. We don't get points for defense right now. No. Put out is not a category of Sylvia's back on the clock right now. He currently has Anthony Rizzo. Javi Bias and Willy Contreras. Very cup heavy in our Chicago I may say that too. You know, I really wanted Hap. I can't lie to you guys. He's off the board. He is off the board. It's yourself somebody No, I think I'm going to I'm going to try. Ah, Jason Kipnis. Here, guys. You have to mention Glenbrook north when you mentioned Jason Kipnis ce Why are you laughing at that? He's going to start in second base a lot. Nico Horner is going to get a lot of lot of start. Anything he starts against all righties, doesn't he? This is really slim Pickens. I think you should do the rest off the air. No, no, Let's go. Rapid habit. How many more do we have? You sure put out is not have any more than we have. We? Probably eight or 66 got two more pics. Let's do this. Come on. I have three but So do I. The scale, So it's not on the team, right? Hey, is on the team. I believe, okay. O. J. Hey, that's what I was going to do, But he's just get you some J Hey bad, though. Oh, stop it. This's an offensive league. I don't get points for put out get defensive. That's fair. I don't get defensive stats here. That's fair. At least he's going to be in the lineup everyday. Find Hayward. Whatever good job you guys really did do a good job. Taking the obvious players there. Which leaves me with not a whole lot. Flynn pickings here at this point Do effin who most of the key players are gone at this point? Uh, man, this is brutal. See, there's no way we could've done eight. Sylvie is just too many. Ah, if I could name any more players. Hey, Where was the obvious choice? Dammit! Um like to the point where I go? Who was that? Yeah, Miller has K be grand doll and incarnate, Sione. Well, we'll stop doing those on.

"Of an inauspicious start here, Right? Happy, excited. It's opening day. Juan Soto is tested positive He was asymptomatic. That's not good news for Washington. Of course, that game has been taken off of all the boards in Las Vegas and probably on just about every apple has been removed from my sight. The Nats. We're already a little bit of an underdog reserve is about and they're not doing pictures this year because of all the uncertainty, which is sort of weird to look at baseball lines and not see the starting pitcher. I mean, that's normally how you kind of Bennett, you know, but Garrett Cole for You know, I'm still gonna have a tough time not mentioning the picture, even though that's technically not the way Vegas is doing it this year. Garrett Cole was your favorite at about minus 1 30 shares. Her was the plus 1 25 underdog in that game. I know. Like I said on my cell, and I'm sure on everybody's has been taken off the board with one soda news. Also news from Theo Epstein is he met the media. He would not elaborate, but Mike Napoli Mike Napoli has some sort of advisory role now with the Cubs If he's one of the guys from Boston, remember from his playing days. Mike Napoli is away from the team feel would not comment, but you know, you start to think the worst right. So wasn't Napoli under 2016 Indians Mike Napoli, I believe was on the 16 Indians. Yes, I think he waas, but he's also one of their guys from the time together in Boston, But, yeah, I think you're right about that. Mark Mike Napoli held on for a long time. I think he played a few world. Siri's actually didn't play on one of the Texas World Series two. And you don't think of the Angel of Napoli was a young around for a long time. So there's that news. I mean, there's a lot happening here, guys there. Really So so, Carm. It's like Throughout this pandemic. We get two points in the conversation, and we'll allow our minds Tio wander to a place where we like talk sports when we think about sports on the field. For like a couple days at a time, and then I feel like each and every time we allow ourselves to do that, we step on the rake in the backyard and hits us right in the face. It's like, Oh, yeah, By the way, Guys Cove. It's legal here and by the way one soda is not playing tonight because he tested positive. And unfortunately each and every time that this kind of happens and we get tripped up over allowing our minds to kind of think about how great sports coming back is I continue to think that the only way this is going to go off without a major issue is if you have a bubble like situation where you're testing every day like Tio have the marquee game for opening day You could hear right here on ESPN 1000 tonight Nationals Yankees defending champs the Yankees with Gerrit Cole on the mound after that huge contract he signed in the offseason. So have the best player on the nationals now out, and we don't know how long he'll be out for because he tested positive. It's just Baseball is going to be able to do this without keeping players and teams together and testing every single day away from the rest of society. I would say that the The way they're going to do it. I think Chris is it. That's why they've got this huge taxi squad of players, but it also makes this season like but it won't go like there's no doubt like if Gerrit Cole gets scratched tonight, and you got a random taxi squad guy coming in to hurl. I don't want to watch that. I know it. Definitely Water's done. That's why betting wise and For trying to predict this season. Is all kinds of impossible. I mean, itjust is because of stuff like this. So whatever you felt about the nationals, you're probably talking about 20% of their season or so now being played. Let's assume we get this often running and we go for the next month or 20% of their season. In the next couple of weeks, I should say Is going to be without their best player. That's why just my prediction for the Eastern champ. Let's put the Braves and the Nationals. I mean, you can't give you a piece of good news. If you're an MBA fan today, second day of practice games for the Indiana Pacers, Victor Oladipo is in the starting lineup, so it looks like he's gonna play. How about that? CF? This? That's one benefit, I guess if it the the interruption never happens. There's no way he's playing sea. All right, Jake, let's let's go to Joan. Display. NES first. What's up, Joe? I'm doing good. I'm road tripping through Wisconsin right now with three girls, and they're all asleep in the car, so I wanted to love it. So you guys were talking a little bit of a little while ago about Automated strikes. Yes, and I'm 25 years old man. I love technology. Don't get me wrong, but I just think less technology and sports the better. You know what I know you both their soccer fans, too. So you know, you look across the pond and you know what they are doing a soccer and it's just It's just breaking up the moment. Um and it's awkward, you know, so I love that human element to the game. You know? Yes, it's brutal when Skip those balls and strikes wrong, but I feel like it's something they take away from us. All right, Jo, we appreciate it, buddy. And that's cool..

It's an almost impossible chance for Lester is it's a breaking ball that bounces in front of home plate and really picks up and hits off the mask and bounces towards that cup. Dug out what we've talked about. This entire series with the Cleveland Indians, something they do better than any team in Major League Baseball. Michael Young doubled home run for Texas in the fifth, and the Rangers lead 4 to 3. As we move ahead to the bottom of the sixth inning, the Cardinals have loaded the bases with Yadier Molina coming to the plate. And the Rangers heading to their bullpen once again alongside a girl her size and Bobby Valentine. Here's Dan Shal Alexia gone. That was into the game, a significant force for the Rangers in the 1st 2 rounds of the playoffs out of the bullpen. He has not fared as well as well. Excuse me here in the World Series, has made four appearances covering two innings. He's given up four runs. Three of them earned on seven hits, and he's walked five batters, although to those walks were intentional, and he's got no margin for error here, but he's got nowhere to put anybody. The bases are loaded for the Cardinals. Down 4 to 3 in the sixth inning and a good clutch hitter. A tough out audio. Molina is coming up to facing Gondo. As Colin continues to warm. A leader has to stay off with high fastball. He's been chasing it. The entire Siri's. This 98 mile are fastball is something he can't catch up with. I don't know what happened. I just remember like being on deck and watching Warm up and normally you'd go back to the dugout and gets starting a report, you know, just refresh your memory, but I figured if I went back to the bench to look at the report The game would kind of slow down on everybody in the yard. "Dollar treasure chest to help the guys at the bottom shaking my head if you want a chance to win a new era snapback hit us up all my twitter at Rob Parker F S. One trash anyone or anything in the world of Major League Baseball and you could be a winner. When Rob was the newspaper columnist he lived by this motto. If I'm writing I'm rippin. Let's bring in a writer of broadcaster older new all right. Let's welcome to the podcast buddy. Mike Code right who is the host of the pre and post game show for the cubs on the Marquee Sports Network? What's up call? How you doing you. Rough man doing good. Please tell me about this new network. I'm excited to cubs put together their own Television network to broadcast the game. You're part of the broadcast and no you can't wait to get started absolutely. You know we've been doing shows at home just like everybody else right. Now we've been doing a show called cup three sixty you know. We have a rotating panel of guests a lot of people. Stop By. You know we've had George will from the Washington Post. Michael Will von Jay Don Day host of players. Dave Ross on we just had Mike Napoli on yesterday so what? We're trying to stay busy during these ever changing times. And you know that's that's one of the that's one of the best things that when we look at how everything's been done unfolded so far. You know the chance for us to be able to go out there and speaking may have a different opinion on the same thing each and every single day. And it's it's IT'S. It's nice to see how we creatively package that and you know how things have unfolded network. But I. I just can't wait to get back to doing pre and post game shows like I'm sure you can't wait to get back to watch them regularly fashioned baseball the way it was intended to during the summer in the second thing you know the dog days of summer. And hopefully we'll see baseball. Baxter later up no doubt about it. Tell me about the new skipper there. David Ross the former catcher who has no managerial experience. But we've seen that done before and he replace of course Joe Madden tell me about him and What do we expect to see from the cubs? I expect to see a lot of success early. Know David Roth is being. You know your number one with no managerial experience. It it's GonNa be a little bit different than what he should be used to any other season. Where you know he'd have to navigate a one hundred sixty two games scheduling from all accounts. It looks as if it's going to be an eighty two game season you if and when things finally do return so you have to maneuver his way through a whole different way. It's GonNa be a different season. There's really not GonNa be you're the ability to to mess up off the top you know. That's you know for lack of a better term. But he's not going to have that cushion that you know usually I your manager would. Have you know the first half? You're there might be some hiccups here or there but this is going to be a sprint to the finish. I mean this is GonNa be the second half for the whole season. I mean there's really going to be you know no break no respite so if the cops get off to a good start which. I really do believe that they will. I think you know things are gonNA fall right in place for David. Ross I mean I mean we all know man. Everyone that knows baseball and everyone. That's been around the game and if you've been able to sit and watch we know catchers usually make the best. Dippers I think for David Ross. No one a whole handful of guys on the team and having played with them and won the world series with these guys. I think it's GonNa make it that much easier for him to make that transition. Yeah I spoke with Anthony. Rizzo Kris Bryant and Jason Heyward Down Spring Training in Arizona. And they said it's not the same David. Ross he's the manager now he doesn't try to be the same David. Ross who hit a home run in game seven of of the world series in two thousand and sixteen. He's David Ross. The manager so I think as different as he is. I think he's also going to be the same what you're going to lend credibility this year the cubs when I look at the roster haven't changed that much what will. What are the biggest additions to this team? You know as far as additions I I think it's it's it's the fact that they haven't made too many move. You just said when it comes to big addition I think the biggest difference is GonNa be off the top of the line with them going on Kris. Bryant Anthony Rizzo one to and then hobby buyers potentially kosh warmer after that. Pick your poison so you know for them to switch things up and go with their two best hitters really out of the gate I think. That's an unorthodox approach. But I don't see why it hasn't been used before it's almost like back in the day when we saw Tony. Larussa hit the pitcher ace so that extra leadoff man and then you could just almost pile on sooner rather than later so I think it's it's the the amount of firepower that this cubs team can have because like you said a lot of familiar faces in the lineup and you know from familiarity breeds. Confidence and traffic can lend different wins and May. Maybe we'll see that. Hopefully we will in a shortened season. It's going to be a race to finish this when you look at the rotation. Do you like it. Darvish Hendrix lesser. Your top three in Catania is our number four. Are you happy with.

"On sports overnight America and the topic for this hour our would be game seven of the two thousand sixteen world series a monumental moment in the rich household of course bite right not as interesting is I think a lot of people would make it out to be you. WanNa you WANNA be brief People on how our home the core had changed The afternoon of game seven so this was November second sixteen. I got home from work and and the entire kitchen was topped off like a locker room would be when team expects to clinch something. They're going to spraying champagne everywhere. Well the thing is we have A. We had a shared locker room with being our kitchen so to speak so there was going to be a celebration game. Seven was not going to a game. Seven of the world series was not going to end in a tie so there was going to be a celebration of some point and I said at the night that the cubs knocked off the dodgers to clinch. It was a Saturday tonight and I remember that Ohio state loss to penn state on the road on a blocked field Penn state ran back. This is the kind of stuff that I remember. And you probably don't about you about your own bom at your own night but So that was going on one screen and then on the second screen is we often have sat up. Yeah the clubs finishing off the Los Angeles dodgers to clinch the National League pennant and get their trip to the world series. So for a moment in your the there. Was this euphoria that I think at least struck me that says one of us is going to get the world series this year. That's awesome a can't be the dodgers. It can't be the Blue Jays or the red sox it's GonNa be the Indians or it's GonNa be the cops and you know I. It sounded like a kind of a good deal. But I'd rather be all the way in or all the way out. And you know I I believe you share this for for Cleveland. The same way that I that I do for the cops is I want. I wish I want them to do. I didn't want them to do well in in in that moment. I just wanted them to do well. But not well huffed beat us us is taken out of the the whole wheat team mentality. That's that's really a controversial thing do you. Do you ever get caught saying we you. You don't play for the college to try to make an effort. Yeah yeah to participate myself in activities that I do participate in undeserved sense of pride I think is what is referred to only so anyway so we both had teams that we rooted for playing for the championship. Deal the worst case. Scenario was that he l. one of us was our favorite team was one of our favorite teams is GONNA lose. One of our favorite teams is GonNa win. And it's the Burger McFarland Alice's where it's just talk yourself into circles like like it's like Google da but you really had to think about it so I am going to take you back to that night a little bit. Now here's my thing with that night and I missed the first pitch I missed dexter. Fowler leading off the game for the cubs he gets booted up A couple of minutes to try to avoid the store the rain but the storms that were potentially coming coming in Cleveland so butterfly effect that changes everything you know thanking him search five minutes later. Maybe Corey Kluber gets different. There's different wind. Followers had at five more minutes to talk him into talk himself into something else around the store to grab like snacks and stuff. Because you know the store was right down the street. I figured I had five minutes and the game started at five o'clock I that's how it went so the game started early Ad may before I even got star. Why and and maybe I deserved it because I was so late for game one but I also had to miss? I've never thought about it that way. Thanks for pointing that out. But if you think about the omens I'm like well you know supposedly for Game One and I'm late for game seven than I should get the same result in game seven and that's not what happened. What had happened? It has happened was what had happened was Dexter Fowler led off the game so Dexter Fowler went on to be assailed Louis Cardinal. He was part of the championship team with the cubs he received. It does ring in a cardinals uniform. One of those cardinals just tolerate or A. You're okay with him. Is he a traitor. I miss him. Okay okay Forever of course is still there. He missed it. He wasn't really there for the ride but he got to got to enjoy the payoff at the end. Think out back. I came back in time for the cubs when we saw him. Because it happened when we were at that game here in Phoenix while they played the diamondbacks when I saw him on my birthday go down the way that he did. I knew that I could never attend another cubs game ever again. What tore his? ACL colliding with the leftfielder. The older on a on a play to the left centerfield against the diamondbacks to chase field. Four right it's four for seven in the ninety seven on on April seventh and I'm watching who we need on our team get hurt it was. I like we're done. We're done at that point but now worked out good. Because he took the season to recover he came back when when you dead and world series and they won the world and he was AH integral part of it so it was fine all right Kris Bryant. What's the first thought thought gets evoked when when I mentioned Kris Bryant Ben third playing third-base? He's just kind of for me. I'm not Gaga over him but I'm also not in a position to really say that you it without a that season was great. Got The assist on the final hour. Yeah I mean like I said it's it hasn't really been the same since that season from from any of the guys but in those moments yeah well the thirst has gone. Yeah I took part of it I I I think that's an underrated part of the discussion. And you can talk about them you professional day and night it but once once you got it it's not as elusive to you anymore. Anthony Resolve added fourth. He played first base in in that game. result resolved probably nothing but good memories with the Chicago cubs and he should be a lifer are your world series series. MVP Benz or you're not a fan. I do not like servers. Well I didn't like the cubs enough to play one hundred sixty two games open open twenty nineteen and that might have been why they missed the playoffs. WE'RE GONNA SKIP Addison Russell. If you don't mind yes Wilson Dreyer's Catcher with a nice little arm You know he's he's one of those he's part of the fun bunch I I. I think that you know when you buy US L. Maura we'll see you know. This guy says just to have fun out on the Brian. Rizzo have their sheriff fun but will they have their bromance their bromance. It's a little cliques. Thanks speaking a little cliques. The way overpay Jason Heyward started in right field batted eighth for you in that game and then yet designated needed hitter which was batting second. And then how. You're probably not as beloved as is maybe should be in Chicago sees yeah. He kind of bloomed. I think after that. And he's definitely a better player in twenty twenty then he was in two thousand sixteen is the is the brightest on the roster. Still I mean you know you can get excited about about the the The young guys that are getting called up but have you ever buy as you've drafted one. Pick behind Francisco lender. He's not the superstar that door is you. He gets it gives you an. MVP effort plays really well and feel the saves out creates outs with his tags. You know make sure he knows how to avoid avoid takes he's a he's kind of transcended player. He's kind of a guy that changes the game a little bit and and we were introduced to a lot of those guys. I'll go to the Indians lineup. For you know yet Carlos Carlos Santana Bubis poplar still hear the music in my head but your unconventional leadoff hitter for the Indians and yet kipness. Who Don't grew up in Chicago? You know what two games at Wrigley. He says he's not like you know it's not like I was a cub season ticket holder or anything. He says after after the series some people accused of maybe being happy about the result of the series when he played on the losing team. That's obviously not the case though he might end up in in Chicago in some capacity whether it's with the white sox or the cubs in twenty twenty or whether it's him retiring and just going back to hang out planning Naperville Verville Oak Park or he's from And then Francisco Lindor who was a very young player and a lot of the bats disappeared for the Indians in the postseason not just in sixteen but also in seventeen and eighteen Linda or had had some big moments. I don't really remember anything thing. That still stands out from that series other than it was the introduction to you Francisco Lindor Mike Napoli Everybody Kinda got behind Napoli. They had the whole Party thirty at Napoli as you were privy to that I was totally down for a party Annapolis and there should have been a party at Napoli's after game seven but it it just didn't come to be that way. Jose Ramirez who disappeared a lot for the postseasons You know that one. And and the ad to the followed launch. which isn't all that's been gone for a year? But he might as well have been gone for five then. RAJI DAVIS EVERYBODY IN CLEVELAND GETS A do you understand the moment that I'm talking about about here. Rachi Davis comes up in Aroldis. Chapman is is on the hill to get the last. I believe it was four outs and Raji Davis. It's a two run homer off of off of Chapman and Cleveland just goes absolutely wild. The Games tied You know they go to the you know the the go to the ninth. They stalemate in the night is losing five to one in this game. I thought it was five to nothing but they get one before Chicago. Got The five and Raji Davis hits this home on and there are. There are two outs in the inning. Linda grounded Out Napoli struck out looking Ramirez singles with an infield single brand guy hits a double the scores Ramirez and gets it gets it to to run game and then Raji Davis I. It's a two run homer and this game goes from being down and out dominated from the outset and oh forget cubs fans totally took over PRESA field for this series. I Trevor Bauer. Even I didn't want his recaps of it that there's like twenty thousand cubs fans which isn't which is a a little more than half but I I think it's very significant when you're talking about the biggest moment in modern baseball history to take place in Cleveland and they don't even have an advantage in their own ballpark. I was surprised and not surprised to see that I was hoping that you know. Obviously Cleveland would come out and they'd be it feels like a home game against travel and they live everywhere. There's just so many of them and cost wise and they've got a lot of money now. It's a lot more expensive expensive living in Chicago but you also get paid a lot more to work in Chicago so And and it's a fan base known as the Yuppie part of of Chicago. I'm sure that their stockbrokers day traders and everything You know the roof of the White Sox as well but the majority of Chicago roots for the cubs and the majority of the people that go to the Games are wealthy because tickets are very expensive as you. And I have learned purchasing tickets for home games at Wrigley over over the last two years or so. Yeah it's quick. Maybe even if they don't get your tickets I mean you have to eat and drink something while you're there you gotta buy souvenirs. I mean the twelve L. dollars. Yeah Yeah have to. It adds up and you know I mean those bleacher seats if you if you run of the mill ballclub. Those seats sheets are GONNA cost you about eighteen to twenty five dollars. They're they're they're sixty two hundred at Wrigley you just because of the ambiance of it and you know I it's fair and it's unfair affair but mostly it just kind of what it is taking a game and.

"'cause that can create a lot of bad habits. It gets you in a lot of trouble. But just trying to make consistent. And I think the biggest was just understanding that you're gonna have ups and down and be realistic with it. I mean, there's going to be days that you're gonna play batting. It'd be we're gonna be playing bad. But if you're not playing if you're not playing good hitting the ball. You know, we have our have way to impact team and to to be on the field. And feels like that. When I tell friends about, you know, talking with players that, that's a lot more common than maybe the casual fans would understand that as great as you guys are going through baseball everyday that you have to deal with so much failure in the great hitters making out seven out of ten times. Yeah, I, I mean who are some players who helped you to understand what you just explained. David Ortiz, obviously, was one who was obviously one of the main guys that Was was. a big part of my career coming up Dustin Pedroia. The also I mean play second base with me for quite some time coming up in my career, it was only guy too. Two goals. Mike Napoli David loss. Those type of leaders that was, I mean, the deal awesome. That team was was some very special and a lot of people didn't have to win. So that's why it made it even more special. You know, and those guys definitely have maybe come much more mature and understanding that aspect of the game. It was fun. In the time. I've covered baseball, I was around three players who were absolutely convinced that yeah. Well, I'm gonna figure this out. I'm going wait. Find a way to win. One was Tony Gwynn was Derrick jeeter, and another was Mariano Rivera heavy had a teammate, who had so much confidence that they were gonna figure it out that they knew they were gonna have success. I mean, if you gotta ask David David Ortiz, I mean, the time I came up he al- already has except for a long time. But I mean even him he went through some rough fascist. I remember one. Yeah. Manager John stopping against all. And then he figured it out, and then he ended up doing the same thing that he does. He told him on a hundred He is all. you. They're just so good. And I think they understand so much that what they need to do how to take the body and how did you prepare and on the sanding that this games again, failure, and you're gonna feel more than you're gonna exceed? So your contract now, we'll take you through your age thirty three season. Dea feel.

"Their gold covers the Saint Louis cardinals for the Saint Louis post dispatch Derek Lookie watches team every day in a way that I don't let's start with this. Because it feels like foundational issue for the two thousand nineteen cardinals. Can you explain the impact of Paul Goldschmidt? Not only obviously the damage. He doesn't his at bats. But on the whole team on the whole line. Oh, I'm in. You're right. I mean being around it becomes remarkable they kind of ripple effects that he can have on a team. I really think that he's the epicenter of so many things that the cardinals are doing well, you know in talking to this former teammates and current teammates. They all reference, obviously, he's gonna make the infield. That's better. Right. I mean, he he's a coke glow player. I based on very savvy first baseman. He's just makes everybody's pick. It up throws out of the dirt. He's grabbing throws that are high that last year to be blunt were heirs brought stability to that corner. He Lincoln's the lineup batting second has abetting second all season that allows like guys like out here. Malino Jose Martinez about lower than the order puts ball young third, and you know, he just gives this links links to the lineup while also as a guy who fits that number two spot because he don't see a lot of pitches. He's gonna ambush fastball. But he's also going to grind and work a pitcher. But I think like there's also off the field stuff. And I'll just give you like an anecdote, for example, the cardinals are far better this year at base running than they have been in recent years, and you see me improvement in their Gresham, you see their their improvement in how they wanna take an extra base seem up from first and the second is all something that they really stressed in spring training. I bring that up because at one point in time, Paul Goldschmidt ran the meeting on base running not not attended ran into cigarette. How he does things what he looks for what he's trying to do. He really he's he's one of more complete players. The cardinals have had around here. He's very giving of his time, you know, relievers gravitate towards them all these things. He's had a remarkable influence on making this team better. And infusing it with his personality. You really is remarkable. How one veteran player can change culture with a team with base running the best. I've seen that in recent years when Mike Napoli who. Who's not a fast guy, but he went to the Indians. And he was a terrific base run from his time with the angels playing under Mike socia- taking advantage of balls the dirt. And all of a sudden the Indians were the best base running team in the American League. And Terry Francona was absolutely blunt in saying that that started with Napoli in spring training because you get one veteran player who buys into that. And sorta nudges the other guys it changes the conversation. When you look to me the the best thing about the cardinals roster. And there's a lot of great things about this team is the depth in the position players, which again, I don't cover the team on a daily basis. Like, you do it's the best that I can remember the cardinals in years how deep this roster is and the options of Mike shield has on a day-to-day basis. I think it's the best use of that depth in years. I think there's bad times when I looked at the roster when okay, they have both depth under civility, and then sort of how the tools were deployed, you know, somewhere forgotten somewhere many think back like they had to Scotty in Grischuk in the same outfield..
