It doesn't make a lot in vegas. Halloween would be a real kick in the pants right well. Inc cody wilson denver. Age said he spent a halloween out there and he said it was crazy by the way has he ever spent a halloween in the united states. He's somewhere near here. Yeah mexico. Puerto vallarta see's posts from release. Go and i'll i can ride is bring me tequila because that's where the good stuff is. Well i i made the dumb decision. Texoma mike is mexico. Treat me good and he goes nope. It's terrible with multiple pictures of the sunset. And i can't say on air sent back to him but i can picture it. Yeah i think. I can summit up in one thing. That's exactly right exactly right. Where do you think. Denver comes in on this list for halloween. Yes how many were rated it was. It was let me see here. Two hundred or something like that. And i gotta thank. Denver is going to be in the top fifteen. They are at number twenty again right there. I think that they just like they'll never know. And i just switched these wallethub hub. Worked really hard on this. No i'm sure they didn't about heart as we did to prepare for this. Yeah that's that's true. That is true but yeah so they broke. Denver's number twenty. I've never heard chula vista california is number nineteen irvine california eighteen chicago seventeen and i would never go trick or treating in chicago. There'd be the chance somebody will give you a slice of pizza though. Dude there's also a chance down yes you could get down out there. There are days. I'm willing to take that risk right now. I'm pretty damn hungry. Nine of the top twenty list for the top twenty cities for halloween. Come from california. Yeah and where did this survey come from wallethub. I do not know where while it hubs base out could be out of california. Maybe they could very well could be pretty scary place over there just california and yeah the whole state. Yeah we went there a couple of years ago. Beautiful weather man. I had a great time out there. But yeah it's a little different man. There's there's no doubt about that there. Here's some facts you about halloween. Twenty twenty one as we get closer to it please. She's ten point. One billion dollars projected halloween spending in twenty twenty one ten point one billion dollars three point. Three billion dollars. Halloween costume spending at twenty twenty one. That's a lot of dough for. Is this all up from last year. Yes it's all up okay. Three billion dollars on halloween candy spinning in two thousand twenty one. Yeah yeah that's that doesn't surprise me. I make suitor and well. I make up a portion of that. Thirty one percent of parents think thirteen fourteen is old enough to trick or treat alone. Oh yeah yeah that seems early. I grew up small town. Man we were sent out. That makes sense. You know you know. Small towns are generally safer than than those big towns but Sixty six percent of americans plan to hand out candy to trick-or-treaters. Now i love it. Because i don't have any trick-or-treaters i don't have anybody come into bug me. I can sit there and just relax. So are you a fan of handing out the candy. I'm a fan of them. Come to the door me. Oh boy dogs that react when somebody knocks at the door and then when there's little dudes in costumes you know it's it's actually. It's hell night for my dogs and then for me. Because i got the parking shops. Aren't you cute. Yeah it's pretty much. What halloween out. And you're talking to the dogs and he said how q. Right and then yelling at the kids to shut up is there. Any malcolm just wanted to make sure he's there yelling so some. Somebody clearly lied on this. Because they say seventy nine percent of parents admitted to stealing candy from their kids that is owner lion twenty one percent of the population is lying about that one no question because you've got a factor in there's a formula for how much colleen candy to buy you figure out how many hours you're gonna give out candy. How many kids you expect to have. And then how many pieces. You'll give each kid. You multiply it altogether. But then he got a factor in how many you're going to steal and most people underestimate their thievery. No like i said before. This is how my dad taught me about taxes. He i mean this is a capital gains tax. I'm taking this from you. Okay dad Five dollars and twenty four cents the average retail price of a pumpkin. "Maybe being on the trademark it. you know. I saw one report that He could potentially be cut which was shut down by a lot of broncos insiders in our hurry what are you hearing about bryce callahan. You know cornerback for really interesting position for this team. Because obviously they signed ronald darby and kyle fuller to shore up the position which they needed to do. I mean it was. It was one of their weakest points last year. In a defense that was supposed to be top five in the nfl and then all the sun on draft night the way the port shakes out and these aaron rodgers rumors. That are obviously now dead all of a sudden. They're on the clock at nine and it's like well if we're gonna go player available. We gotta go. Patrick ser tan. So that sorta made callahan the odd man outright right because darby's brand new you're not gonna move on from him fuller's brand new fangio's You know the. I don't know for lack of a better term friend in chicago. That's the wrong word but familiar with them and And thirteen so although son callahan's the the odd man out here and what i think is the injury to michael ocho moody. Ah in the preseason probably saved bryce callahan spot on this roster because they can't make the same. I'll call it a mistake but to meet decision that they did At wider at cornerback. Just think depth is going to be too much of a concern and you're you're gonna be playing corners a lot. A lot of teams obviously have three corners on the field. Heck there's even talk a four corners on the field in this past happy league when you're defending patrick mahomes and could patrick's or tan matchup with travis kelsey and tight ends across the league all this and that so for now i think callahan stays. I'm with you. The cut rumors got shut down a trade. Obviously a little bit more of a possibility. I think you could get some value for him. You wouldn't just straight up caught him. They don't need the money all that much. They're not they're not against it in the salary cap so For now i think he stays. But i think if. Oj new media was healthy. That would be a lot icier but with oj judas injury. I think kellyanne it'll be on this roster and on the field some we want down look looking forward ready for that week one. It was a little bit different with the three preseason games but really looking forward to to get that underway and all the questions are answered with that being said will college. Football is here. We've got a pretty good site of College football games on tonight and then of course the big one in the state Tomorrow all three of the primary ones. Uncc ucs you all in action tomorrow night Now were a day away. What are your thoughts on this you. Unc game. i'll start first with the line. There are thirty thirty six and a half point favorites. D think cover that or do you think. Unc Find a way to get a couple of late touchdowns on them. Yeah you know. It's funny when you. And i talked about this a couple of weeks ago. We joked and said. Oh it'll be three touchdowns or maybe twenty four. I have is what i was thinking. And you know the odds makers said no twelve points off. So i don't know..

"Dot com for you to check out We've got a loaded our number two here as well We will be talking in about ten minutes or so with. Will peterson the digital sports producer for nine news We're gonna get his thoughts. I will tell you this And i'll reiterate this well when he comes on will was right about teddy bridgewater. And i know it's not that big of spreads because it's like fifty fifty but will to right man. He had right. Mike you call to their aid. Maybe well i didn't necessarily call it right but i had i think he's the right guy overall. I think he's a better quarterback. I wouldn't personally. I wouldn't have picked him if i was. The coach would have picked drew. They were so close. I would picked my draft pick Interesting i am totally one hundred one hundred percent on team teddy all right so here was the argument that That will peterson presented. Who were gonna talk to and just a bit He said look The broncos have been terrible in september. And there's a reason vic. Fangio has the best odds to be the first coach fired right so he knows he's got to go out there and win. I think teddy in the first couple of games definitely has gives them the best opportunity simply because he's not gonna turn the ball over as much as what drew lock possibly could So we'll talk with wolf peterson about that coming up. In ten minutes and mike morris without a collision specialists will join us later on as well in the program. Be part of the conversation today. You've been saying <Speech_Male> they're battling <Speech_Male> just they're battling <Speech_Male> to stay. Stay afloat <Speech_Male> you know in some <Speech_Male> aspects and some are getting <Speech_Male> get getting <Speech_Male> back on there so <Speech_Male> You know you saw <Speech_Male> this big push shop <Speech_Male> local shop local <Speech_Male> shop local <Speech_Male> well <Speech_Male> then when things kind <Speech_Male> of got back to normally stopped <Speech_Male> seeing that and <Speech_Male> and it's maybe <Speech_Male> now more <Speech_Male> than ever <SpeakerChange> more important <Speech_Male> to be doing then. We <Speech_Male> talk about relationships <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> You know <Speech_Male> does that mean that <Speech_Male> You know <Speech_Male> i'll use home depot <Speech_Male> or lowe's you know <Speech_Male> Does that mean <Speech_Male> there's not some great <Speech_Male> people out there that work <Speech_Male> there. <Speech_Male> No <Speech_Male> absolutely not. There's <Speech_Male> some great people at those <Speech_Male> places but <Speech_Male> they ain't got the <Speech_Male> they ain't got the power <Speech_Male> to fix <Speech_Male> some of the big <Speech_Male> stuff where right <Speech_Male> and it doesn't mean every <Speech_Male> small low right but <Speech_Male> that's also where we get <Speech_Male> a lot of the the great <Speech_Male> You know the karen <Speech_Male> the that <Speech_Male> came about when they're <Speech_Male> asking to speak with a manager <Speech_Male> and they start berating. <Speech_Male> Somebody who has no <Speech_Male> control over the situation <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> You know that's <Speech_Male> that's the type of stuff <Speech_Male> that i if <Speech_Male> you're shopping there. You're not <Speech_Male> going to get resolved by <Speech_Male> yelling at a manager <Speech_Male> and things of that nature <Speech_Male> but if you yell at a local <Speech_Male> manager <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> here <Speech_Male> here's one of the things in <Speech_Male> and i'm gonna come <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> seemed because it's <Speech_Male> i always come back <Speech_Male> to insurance and body <Speech_Male> shops right right. That's what <Speech_Male> i do and rexel <Speech_Male> passionate about. <Speech_Male> You know you can use <Speech_Male> that same analogy <Speech_Male> of buying local <Speech_Male> now. There is no such <Speech_Male> thing as a true <Speech_Male> local insurance <Speech_Male> company because they're all big <Speech_Male> behemoths <Speech_Male> right right <Speech_Male> but your agent. <Speech_Male> It's like <Speech_Male> j nine right. <Speech_Male> I mean you walk into <Speech_Male> here engineer. And they're <Speech_Male> right there. Everybody <Speech_Male> in there and you <Speech_Male> know scott bicknell <Speech_Male> and and <Speech_Male> demoss spas <Speech_Male> and i can go through a whole <Speech_Male> plethora <Speech_Male> of agents <Speech_Male> that i <Speech_Male> would consider <Speech_Male> people <Speech_Male> that. Hey that's <Speech_Male> buying local. <Speech_Male> 'cause that money <Speech_Male> because they get commissions <Speech_Male> off to selling those <Speech_Male> policies and servicing <Speech_Male> bright those <Speech_Male> policies they sponsor <Speech_Male> the local youth <Speech_Male> teams sponsor low. <Speech_Male> You know hell local <Speech_Male> radio. I mean <Speech_Male> all of it. They <Speech_Male> do for sure so. I <Speech_Male> liked that message today. <Speech_Male> Michael local <Speech_Male> local <Speech_Male> buddy. That i'm fired up <Speech_Male> about anything man <Speech_Male> i miss. <Speech_Male> I grew up in <Speech_Male> a small town. <Speech_Male> Where when you you <Speech_Male> went to get your lawnmower. <Speech_Male> Fixed you into coast-to-coast <Speech_Male> you went to <Speech_Male> get something for <Speech_Male> radio you into radio <Speech_Male> shack and there was the owner. <Speech_Male> Was there right. <Speech_Male> And i remember my father. <Speech_Male> We would stand <Speech_Male> around and talk for <Speech_Male> a little bit. And <Speech_Male> i just. I miss <Speech_Male> those days. Yeah no <Speech_Male> i. <Speech_Male> I agree on fired <Speech_Male> up about today. i <Speech_Male> like it. "Somebody saying don't do this. Don't do this. You know people live. I've taken chances man. And i've done some really stupid stuff right and i've learned. Yeah sometimes it took a couple. There's a great There's a great country song by frankie ballard that says how am i supposed to get old and wise if i'm never young crazy. Yeah and and that's there's a lot of truth in that. But i will tell you mike Mayor mike morris has a nice ring to it. Sure i'll be milliken. So i'd have to start small mayor of milliken mike morris the alliteration going on. I'll be your campaign manager. Would you know. But i i'm going to go back to your first comment. I think that. I'm probably a little too straightforward. You know but i think that's there's a place for that and i think we should get back to that right You know it may not be. What's the old saying. If you always tell the truth you never have to remember what you said right and you know even in my business. I'm pretty you know if you listen to my ads on the on the radio. They're pretty straightforward. And you know a lot of people go. Oh my god. I can't believe to send that. Why sa- truth now. When did that become you know you have to risk you and you know i still these old these old sayings out because i think they're just as relevant today as they were fifty years ago. Right is that Just because you can doesn't mean you should And then you know if you try to please everyone. You're going to end up pissing. Everybody off and that's the truth. Yeah it some point time. Take a stand and then agree to disagree but you know this backstabbing and throwing everybody under the bus and you know somewhere in there you ever. He goes well. It's the truth. Will what really what what truth right well. And if you don't stand for something you'll fall. Let's see how many of these things we can get in on and on on it. You know the everybody i hear. I see it on on facebook again. We're gonna talk about local. We may get back into that but this is important as well is that everybody throws that word truth while the truth will the truth right well whose truth right whose truth because everybody understands a situation differently so i i get really annoyed when when i hear even when i use it the truth will. It's my truth right but truth lurks behind understanding..

"Well mike morris has back after filling in for me yesterday with his wife. Deb and i'll be honest. I thought they were going to have to be a marriage. Counseling taking place about halfway through there. You're throwing some shots over at her man. But i'm not married but that doesn't seem like a good idea. You back a guy into a corner to do. I'm under a mother gunned. And i'm out brained so all i can do is lash out. Yeah no that was lash out that checks out. Well thank you guys. So much for filling in i was down at the pepsi. Front range huddle With all the college coaches from colorado down there. And as i was heading down there listening. I thought that was a very good show. I don't think. I don't think society is better for it. Having a fill in. I we should have a little bit of the show still on today's so that means something. You know the interesting thing. Tanner is there is a time and a place to to be very serious. And then there's a time and place you know you just gotta laugh because right all the things going on today I will tell you in my fifty nine years. I i can't quite get my head around a lot of it right around a lot of it and you know i i hate to say this but you know one of the things that You know we talked a little bit. I local yeah well and that's going to be the key topic for today as we get into this. I don't know if you've got a chance to catch it this morning. But i had commissioner scott james commissioner perry buck in here for the commissioner roundtable I always used to think. And there's part of me that still thinks you know politics might be a fun to get into some day for you know for the right reasons and and you know listen to them. Talk off off. Air like man. "Your guys are considerably younger than i am. And and your full of passion you have the same path. I had Back when i was your age and good to see that there are some and even around town here. The number of young hunters that i see onto five zero and talking will bear hunting and women being average. I mean the women who are hunting. And i think it's phenomenal when i see this taking place. And if they have the drive and passion. That's what's going to help change things down the road. We offering plead picture. Yep that's right. No five year goals. We need a fifty year goal. Exactly yeah well. I think that something we can take away from. First nations you know they. They're looking generation right. They're not looking two years down the road. It's a very long-term approach. And i think you know. We need to start taking that approach in our governance as well and and being so much more long-term on every level not being. You know being very holistic right like you said steve one of these problems is you get these iconic species you get a cecil the lion or you get one. You know one. Individual that pulls on heartstrings. Meanwhile there's a whole species that's being lost the as an example caribou or other species where. It's being accounted for. Because they don't have that that fairy story or that that tear jerking story that Some of these other species do so. I think the big part of it is a holistic approach in looking at long-term multigenerational. And what we need to do instead of the next four years or five years down the road and it's not about one species about all species in everything that in habitat. It's not but one tree about all trees and they can just keeps going ad nauseam rate. It's it's about the landscape and everything had habits as a whole we got formula. We just have to make it work. That's the tough part. Absolutely well on that note mike We're going to be respectful time. You took time out of your day on wednesday to come down to the steps legislature. You and your colleagues from the bbc liberal party to support our act now campaign. You took time this afternoon. You've been away all week You just got back to your Your home there going to be respectful of your time. I wanna thank you for all you've done to support While cheap act now and just wildlife and habitat and conservation in general. You're certainly somebody. I respect and beacon hope in terms of our leadership in the in the legislature. Moving forward. So thank you for your time and all you do mike pleasure and keep up the good work guys and i'm with you all way..

"Really devastating on the habitat so his we have absolutely the wrong business moral for forestry. It should not be based on volume and and you know we should know that. But unfortunately that's the system that's been in play now since the mid sixty s Longer than that. Right from day. One but volume-based harvesting is not biodiversity-friendly. Use coventry's done rolling down. Roman and i think we have to get more to a A ecological model where you go in. Select the trees much like we did up until the mid nineteen sixties any tree that was twelve twelve inches in diameter and less left standing. And you logged at once. It got big enough and You know i remember hunting on parts might trap line back in the seventies were select logging taking place. There was habitat all over the place. It was lucile place there refer their raptors out. You know you go nowadays. Hardly hear all. And i never see it. Gosh gosh hawks have been red listed for a decade or more and. I don't see them anywhere is with these all. The time i was using cushion hold traffic for in the early part of the season because the goshawks rose getting into my sets and snaring them or would kill him. So if i use these these cushion holes were rubber jawed traps. You can stick your hand in walk around all day and it would hurt by will travel So i was able to go in and get off shock and i got a gold eagle on signed up and opened. The traffic would way they go and have no harmed uneven than they've never been hurt. But i don't see that anymore there's I haven't seen eagle on the travel. I know for decades having goshawks out there. Red hawks noser characters. Those things if you're walking next made knock your hat off. Well i came in. And what two thousand and four thousand four. It was about two thousand and six last time that companies started right grade. There's a. There's a key in there that i believe you pointed out that it says objectives for wildlife objectives for water biodiversity at the stand level and it says the key is without unduly reducing the supply of timber from bc forests. So that says what the number one priority is right. It's it's not the wildlife is not the water's not the landscape. It's don't stop messing with what we can cut. And i think that is something that needs to change before we're going to actually see any meaningful change on the landscape right or all those. I call them off ramps. And it's under the force and brings flat practices in planning regulations. And i think there's a dozen soul sections that have that but you know government was supposed to have they put these objective and then they they talk about what those objectives are but they still haven't defined what regionally important wildlife are they still haven't defined some of the areas in their for their objective so for the last twenty years. We've just been been cutting without any regard for that because there's no law in place. The regulations full stiffly your to do. There's nothing punitive. When i first read through the force rate practices act I shocked you. Know as being unforced normal life i looked at this work was document because little sections that you reference there steve. Yeah absolutely. it's it's it's sad when you really dial down into what government has taken from priorities like we discussed. This is again where in the mid eighties when i was in elementary school through the coat of arms and they'd always discuss that. Bc was forestry fishing and tourism. And none of those three are are doable right now. We don't have the fish. The forests are gone and due to covid. We don't even have the tourism. Sweat is british columbia falling back on now we we haven't planned five years ahead let alone fifty years ahead. That's a good aditorial. You got something a very good point. You know worry here here we are you know. And in twenty twenty one alongs that has been in existence. What has happened over that period of time. We are close to the amd unless we make that close to the end absolutely. So yeah. it's it's it's a big drago in and it can only happen with everybody's or in the water you know unless we want to wait until it so obvious that you know we got nothing left and then somebody would say jeez. Why didn't somebody do something you know. Like why the cod fishery i. I'd like to stop it before. We get to that point so that we do have a motive of of of opportunity left to rebuild wildlife populations and all wildlife populations are are raptors are fish. Update the ferber's everything that we have out there when you look at back martin all the time. Because that's what i know. Best is fisher martin and that animal and One of the primary food sources for for martin was back bowl and the back feeds on the the fungi and the and whatnot. That grows on the bottom up blowouts of trees fall down before reston when you get rid of them and you don't have slow downs anymore. Then you don't have the back wall and maybe you're mice disappear some species of mice disappear. You know someone flourish. I guess and And i've watched was dive bombing down over the trail in front of me and picking up a mouse or picking up ole and flying off into a tree in its part was. I don't have whiskey. Jacks hardly at all left on my travelling. They used to come all the time the him yet. Come to think of it. The time i've spent up there in in your area too. Yeah you pointed out. There is no whiskey jacks normally. You're you're walking in there kind of there's a person in there following you around or the magpies they're not around. There's a predator. Sign it really. The the whiskey jax will will cache their food all summer long for the winter they lived the winter. They if they were around they would and they cast their food in the branches. The upper branches of the of the forest canopy of mature for his county. And that's what they live on all winter long big stash berries nuts and mushrooms and meat or whatever they can get in there and but once that's all cut down there's nothing left because all the the small rannells down with all might smell it or see it and but we don't have them either so.

"Trips on might see one live mu song of and all that we still got loose around but there should have been twenty. There should have been thirty light mousse hustle we get used to. It doesn't take long for people to kinda get adjusted to the dynamics everything around you thinking. Oh yeah we got loose here. We got trees out there looking at all. You know what's more talking. We've got thousands of trees out there. And i saw gross last week when i was out on that you know so people normalize today not realizing that the bar has dropped eighty percent from where it used to be and and i don't know how we can get that message out to everybody to let everybody know what it was like before and what it can be like if we spend a little bit of time and energy in lima direction. You did a great Google earth overly of the area where it showed what the habitat looks like. When did you start that it was the seventies or something and you worked your way through to the modern day and if if that was a little bit more i think that would be quite Enlightening for some people. Because you can literally see just the we'll call it old growth just disappear and it's time lapse. It's absolutely it's blowing for the for somebody who's lived up here for fifteen years like myself as as you said back then it was. Oh yeah we'd see two three four five moves in hunting trip but now here we are. It's like okay. Well we might see two or three season. And that's only in the last fifteen years it's it's disappearing and it's that death by a thousand cuts. I keep referencing in it. They keep taking it a little bit little bit little bit. It's gone before we know it and we're going well go. Yeah i remember Hunting oh my traveling back in the late set into the eighties. And you know my partner. And i would vote and Oftentimes my brother-in-law's would come so we would have. Maybe six of us going out for one week hunting trip and all six of us would have hanging within three days and then i would use everybody to clean trails and set boxes up in built rebuild the copies and stuff like that and that was the norm. We expect that to happen every year. And of course now. We've had many trips where we haven't seen a single animal. Of course we come back empty going back to the guler time lapse so that is an excellent tool. And it's you know. It commences in one thousand nine hundred four and now they include twenty twenty and you have to. I find it best. If you use google chrome and you have to register to use google earth engine and then find the time lapse video and you can stop and you can zoom in pan around and varying the speed of the time lapse. But what i've done is is on my trap. Line council force industries and some people in the industry are pushing for certainty on land by saying we want you know has all these managed for snow. And what the art is all the regals. It's coming up. Second grow but if like traveling freeze the time lapse on nineteen eighty four. And you just look at the color of the searle stages of development out there. You can pretty much figure out when things were logged we never started clearcut logging bc until nineteen sixty six and when we built all else and so he can tell when the clearcut starting and you know. There's not much in there. We started replanting in earnest in the nineteen eighties with watch. Poll find because grew the quickest and then of course the pine beetle came along and wiped out all those trees that we planted in the seventies and eighties and nineties. And we're starting from scratch and lauderdale's areas but scientists and civil cultures have found the perfect tree that Very quickly very quickly up here to a tree. That's about you know. Twelve inches in diameter paint still takes about eighty years. But i guess that's quick but it's still not enough to to provide the habitat that is necessary on that. So you can pick beto as you're looking through the time lapse video you nineteen eighty-four twenty twenty or sideway science. We can keep switching back for to see see. What's there the other part. I found a A scientific paper on aum hydrology against snow areas. That had lots of snow. And of course we've got lots of that and be here and they were they. It was twenty twelve. Study is a fairly extensive and what they were saying. The study is that takes at least eight years in interior british columbia for a forest canopy to develop enough to slow down. The snow melt in the in the spring so for eight years and particularly the first thirty or forty years. The snow is melting three to four times faster than it normally would With the forest canopy and of course atas flushing. Everything melts the streams. Get over full. They flesh all the nutrients down and put soil deposits over top of the salmon spawning areas. Wash everything we get. Massive flooding. We get landslides. We got a whole bunch of things all attributed to that and and nobody's come to their senses yet though. This study's note for ten years. Where's the pro government on this. How come nobody is own. My goodness we're we ought on live here. We got to start rebuilding our force counties to ensure clean air clean water wildlife habitats and force for a lifetime hundred lifetimes absolutely. You know it's interesting you know just being out on the land. I was just out on a bear trip to the spring. Two two weeks ago and pulled up this little lake in Visit beautiful area and it was all clear. Cut up to lake and then there was. You know fifty year old growth behind and you could. At first i was like oh that's interesting. They left all these trees which was nice. And then you get looking at it and really what was happening is fifty years ago. They logged and they left a setback to three hundred meters back of the lake. Which you know as we know having that You know there's trees around. The lake and there are setback requirements as we know with logging and so took all the second gross stuff lee left at and they cleared everything around the lakes so the lake there was three or four hundred meters and it was all just completely logged so a new company. Come in and take an thanks so and we see these violations. All the time and the interesting thing is a lot of times. My hunting part is very active. He's actually very creek right now. and he's very active in the forestry side of things too with protesting peacefully. He's he's not getting not one of the guys getting arrested but there is and he's he's reported several violations is he's he's quite knowledgeable about what's legal and what's not and of course itself self police straight. So you know. It's one thing if you have a sustainable forestry system and the forestry companies are recognizing getting and following the rules but itself itself monitoring you know there's no government oversight really is this required so there's so many violations and and it's really.

"Well what do you want to see. Absolutely and we do listen to our members and our supporters. You know a lot of times what we do. Listen to is how things so when we see something do well. We're like okay. That works if it doesn't do as well then we're like well okay. Maybe won't do that again. But let us know Working to to offer things that people want I can say dude gaming rules. We can't say we're gonna offer next for raffle stop when we have a couple of really cool raffles coming up So keep an eye out. You're going to see them. Pretty soon and Coming down the pipe so with that. Let's go to episode thirty two We're gonna welcome bc liberal mla. mike marsh from prince. George mackenzie to the show steve Looking forward to this one's going to be a great chat absolutely if you looked up the word conservation superhero in the dictionary. You would see a picture of our friend omer from precision optics tireless donor and supporter of all things wild sheep precision optics located in british columbia truly stands alone in the alpine from optics. Podcast real pleasure to have you on and thanks for taking the time to meet with us this afternoon. My pleasure. this is scott excellent. Mike yeah we appreciate You know really what you've done for hunts to hunters across British mia You know your involvement in victoria is You know you've been very active down there very vocal on issues around sustainability conservation related issues and you know opportunities frost hunters as well so. It's something that you know. I really watch closely. What you're doing in the legislature. We're really grateful for what you've done. The while sheep. Society b c. We had this opportunity to present. Twenty thousand letters to the premier on on the ninth on wednesday and true to form. You showed up to speak in support of of what we're doing It always seems very consistent with yourself and also the liberal party to support were getting as hunters across the landscape here and being out there to support us all the time so it was a pleasure. Senior guys aaron impress or walks showed up in front of the legislature and It's too bad it was. We have to do. During covert time. So we've been quoted times now for a year and a half off. It'll be over one of these days soon. But i think the message was important that that be delivered in the way that it wasn't and i've got a meeting with the minister coming up towards the end of the month here so i might chit chat with her little bit of this issue as well yes. So let's i guess maybe jumping to that issue. You know a little bit. And i know mike. You're very active around. Conservation related issues forced related issues. All all these different things. But you know we haven't really talked about the issue at hand with some. It's something that is a huge concern for us and we've actually got a little bit. Of flack a wild sheep for kind of making a stand in a statement around you know that we want to hold the government to account on this issue around wildlife meant using science because we did see it back in two thousand seventeen when The grizzly bear just went away. You know one of the most heavily Studied animals In the province. There's a lot of time money and effort understanding them and the government shutdown. You know kind of on election promise. So you know i guess. Maybe it'd be great to hear from you on your perspective on your thoughts and science-based while they've management kind of this this issue we're having to deal with the boat social licensing and you know maybe hunters shouldn't be harvesting taking off the landscape not based on sustainability but based on. You know because somebody doesn't like that an animal dies in the process so if you could talk a little bit to that i appreciate it over. Wildlife has been undervalued in this province side Rates in the beginning went four streak came along. We adopted that sustainable yield strategy way back in nineteen forty five with a full focus on on wood and nothing else and i think that is that that began the over. Wildlife populations nbc. And because of that. focus. Well i don't think any government is one thousand nine hundred and five is put the required amount of money into wildlife management or into managing any of the other biodiversity values on which has led us to where we are today. We have no idea of you. Know there's we haven't had a good wildlife inventory program we haven't had a good wildlife you know if you talk to anybody they would be able to tell you how many how many martin we have. How many of any kind of critter that we have in the province here and i think that's wrong when you look at the value that each one of those animals provide to society at mt enter the environment itself. I read back when i was trapping. And and on these days. Maybe i'll be back to that again at ninety but i've got every study on for bears that has been written in the last fifty or sixty years and all of them say the same. You know. just the liberal bibliography i on hearten for an example is twelve pages long and i every single report and pay for that was written on biology. The habitat for martin. Also the same thing that they're declined. Premise deformed lack of habitat that as soon as you log. The mature denver that takes away nesting denning sites and food opportunities in the red back. All those kinds of things but yet we continue to do that. And then you look at the care who situation and just about every report that you see on. Caribou talks about the loss of habitat. And what are we doing. We're still having the trees down as still throwing the habitat da. These animals are in so we haven't learned and part of it is because we have this like i said this incomplete strategy from nineteen forty five that has morph into ideology that is taught in force you programs at the university level at the college level. So these these folks that are now in forestry in senior management positions all they know is how grown cut down trees and how to make it grow faster in the optimum size to put it through a sawmill on even though that the optimum sizes still half the size that's needed to produce inadequate canopy overhead and whatnot so to change the mindset of colleagues and to change the mindset of people in the industry has been enormous task Some days. I feel like i'm just bang my head against a brick wall but i do think you know if i look at the numbers in my own caucus i think i'm i'm probably fifty fifty. Now where rated beginning. I was probably want against everybody so it is working but it's a long painful process in its it's organizations like watch society and others that have made enough noise on the outside. That helps me lincoln to colleagues and other people in the political world. So don't take my word for oldest into these guys are gonna talk to one of these guys over there. And i think people are starting to get the same message from just every organization on the province so go long way to go but We're moving at least appreciate that. Mike so i guess that's kind of the next question. You know we complain a lot about you. Know what's happening on the landscape. Loss of habitat You know there's this whole predator issue which you know is kind of the heart of act now in some capacities because of some of the pushback. We've been getting we go from here you know. We've that was one of the things we're with together for wildlife we'd see some positive changes and And there probably is a very good positive things coming together for wildlife You know we seem to change government at change of a party so you know. Maybe there was some optimism there that we'd see but we're still having the same issue so you know kind of what we need to do. What are some of the things that we can do to improve things to to make a difference and actually start reversing because it seems to me. We're still going backwards from.

"What's happening. Now is part of that power structure and it's all about profits Yeah well it just because you can doesn't mean that you should but the insurance company's claims departments are being very heavy handed in trying to get you to use we. We see all these big national chains. Hell they're they're here in greeley now. I won't name names. But there's a bunch of these national bodyshop chains that now the insurance companies all of them are getting are trying to get you to us not because they're going to do a better job they're going to do a cheaper job and you won't get if you're at one of the preferred shops from an insurance company that says hey go. Abc auto body and that's our preferred shop modes a national chain. That national chain believes that the insurance company is their customer. So like we're i got on on the phone. And i made the phone calls and and i did all the right things for the consumer for her. Do you think that that preferred shop is going to do that. No of course not. They need the referral. Does that all make sense. No it and laid it all out there it was. I was pretty fired up about that. Because it slaps Their marketing message completely in the face. Right it's talk about hypocrisy. They're saying they're going to do all these things. And they sell the insurance based on this emotional plea that that they care right and then when they were gonna pull the car rental car on friday the day before snow gaza and then they they tell her. Nobody's moving on monday and they tell her she's going to have to pay the storage charges after monday. Would nobody's getting out of their driveway. I just i was so angry body. I've calmed you can. Yeah can yeah. I'm glad we didn't get a chance to talk about him. But yes i vote. Maybe not if i had my way i'd open it up. Today i'd issue a strong warning. I would i. I would garner all of the information all of it. Not just the you know. One of my guys just caught at work tested positive for covid. Not one symptom didn't lose sense of smell taste anything. I sent him home for ten days him and his wife stated home. Pretend as and i paid him. I that hurt. You know cordless. I paid him and no sooner does he. Did he have it. I don't know. I mean how many false positives are we getting. I have no idea. "We know that it actually helped because honestly if you look at and again. I'm not a scientist. I don't know if anybody knew. And i'm not a statistician. Either but i can read and i have beliefs right so i don't know this to be true but man if it quacks like a duck in a quacks like a duck don't you think it might be divey duck but you're the total deaths in the united states have they have they increased while and that was something that you posed During our conversation before we got on air was was talking about that. What have the the overall number of deaths done. And i think that's a great statistic that we probably haven't talked about and there's a lot of stats that that get thrown out there all the damn time that you say you pointed to the point of this and the other point that i'll make kind of piggybacking on what you're saying is looking colorado. We've been locked down pretty aggressively. she's It's it's devastating right. California has been locked down. We are moving our numbers hospitalizations cases Deaths have all been moving at the same rate as states like wyoming or texas or florida that was not as vigorously locked down so this virus that the the numbers there which i think that they track him a lot better now than when the thing started. Those numbers are doing whatever they're going to do anyway. You have it but you know my wife is a cpa right and you know her. Joke is and you know. What do you want the number to be and what is your acts. You wanna grind at that particular moment because you know we really need all of the information and we need it presented to us in kind of a i guess a milk toast version not like the sensationalism five hundred thousand riots. Sure and kids are dying on the streets and yet are the numbers really well and what you're talking about there. I mean that there's media outlets The that need to really take a deep look into that you know and and the wording that we use rhetoric is a big thing that i talk about on this program when you talk to somebody that you got to be able to have an open discussion with them. You've got to be able to have but when you pick words like outbreak you know. It's a big scary but that could mean to people think about. Yeah exactly but you know what's interesting and and the carnage and and i do believe it is carnage I've a pretty big circle of friends. And i got a really humongous circle of acquaintances Have people died from code absolutely It's a matter of degree and and by no means. Am i going to say that. That's not a tragedy. it's horrible. However have i would believe and this is a simplistic bodyman from greeley colorado. Making this this This assertion is that if this was so. Oh my god over the top. Wouldn't our total death numbers in the united states per capita be massively bigger than they are now. Wouldn't they be they're not they're not as a percentage of total population. That number is three hundred thousand. More people died than usually die in the united rights every year. Nobody talks about those things. Now that doesn't that doesn't take away again. The tragedy of losing a loved one. If that's your your mother your husband your daughter. Whatever laying in that hospital bed. of course you're going to have a different belief about that right a society the cost. That's been paid. I think about the kids that missed their high school. Now i have never been to scottsbluff nebraska and a great little town for sure. I mean i was just shocked. I kind of i. Didn't i know explication and it was pretty interesting. I had to go out to a salvage yard. Cake and as i pulled into gary nebraska. I was looking around. And i had a bit of a panic because i got in my truck and i as i'm pulling into gary in nebraska. I looked down. I usually have a mask right on my console. I didn't have it. Yeah i actually panicked. I'm fifty nine years old. I panicked. Because i didn't have a mask and i'm looking around going. Oh my god. I gotta get to the sojourner let me in and and then i gotta eat because it's an eaten right and i don't have a mask in i'm looking around. There isn't a mask to be say as anybody. There was no kids nothing. No i didn't see a mask one. And then i got to the salvage yard and i said are you guys. Okay with the mask. And he goes well. Yeah we don't mask up up here and what was interesting about that. I've a friend and That works set a implement dealer. And i called him and he wanted to take me to dinner again. A fifty nine year old pretty confident male. I panicked again i. I don't have a mask. He's and he looked at me. Like are you an idiot. Because we don't wear masks. You don't mask right. And i went into a restaurant was a nice restaurant. The parking lot was packed. The there was no social distancing and there had been any social according to my friend. The other hadn't been any social distancing. And i'm sure there were pockets of people right and that's where the person responsibility comes in. Of course that's you know. I i caught i. "Hate that word. You're entitled to ten thousand dollars right right in theory. No not in theory because of the policy. You pay your premiums on time what they tell you when they tell you you have ten thousand dollars worth of damage to your car. You're entitled to ten thousand bucks right if they and they know this. They can't write an accurate estimate. That estimate at is going to be at best and again. This is my experience thirty percents. So they're going to hand you a check for three thousand dollars right That's not that's not and i'm not great at math but that's not ten thousand thirty percent after we'll show yeah go back in. The office will be so they hand you now. During the pandemic money was tight for a lot of people took those checks and ran with them and ran with them and the problem is they were not they were entitled to the full settlement of what the policy offers itself and they said that's where the windfalls at it's not in the frequency of accidents. We're talking with mike morris with auto collision specialists. There's a lawsuit going on in nevada and it's the usual usual suspects here. The lawsuits were filed on behalf of nevada insurance customers against state farm. Usaa geico acuity liberty. Mutual farmers progressive travelers nationwide. And allstate. my question to you. Mike is where do you think it's going to go. I mean you think anything's gonna change from this lawsuit or is this just a. Hey let's pay more attention now. I hate to say got better lawyers than have very deep pockets now. That doesn't give us licensed to steal from them. And one of the things. Tanner that are really really. Want to bring up. Is that how you combat that practice. Because i'll tell you. Absolute power corrupts absolutely and you talk about it. And one of the reasons i'm sitting in this station is local local local reverts buddy. Three words matter your agent your agent. Everybody goes what mike you just hate. Insurance companies..
