"It's just a very profitable thing to bet on. And it's something that I don't have the exact numbers Gregg had tweeted out that it's a sub two 50 winning percentage. But it's something that I've noticed and something that I've been on for a while. And we have to continue to ride this if the situation calls for it. So coming up this week on Sunday, the 21st, Sunday Night baseball will be the Red Sox and the Orioles that is the game that is, it's the little league World Series game that's going to be played in Williamsport. That's going to be a fun event for both teams. You'll have all the kids and the little league World Series out there, great celebration, nice initiative for ESPN, Red Sox and Orioles on Sunday Night baseball. On Monday, the 22nd, neither team place. That's a bummer because we really could have used that fate. We'll check out here Sunday, August 20 8th. Sunday Night baseball scheduled the braves and the Cardinals from St. Louis. And on Monday the 29th, the Cardinals go to Cincinnati to play against the reds and the braves are off. So the next opportunity that we will have for a Sunday Night baseball fade will be the Cincinnati reds on Monday, August 29th. And they'll be home, you know what, maybe we'll take the reds at plus or one and a half in that spot. Maybe the pitching lineup is going to be beneficial for us to bet that game. Maybe, you know, they're going to have, I don't know, grand ashcraft on the hill. I'd like to see, you know, he's probably been there best starter right now. You know, with hunter green on the hurt, I mean, Nick ladol, maybe? It certainly is not Mike minor. Mike minor is a fade machine. Our play of the day that lost today on Twitter was the Phillies minus a one and a half. And the reason why I picked that game was because the reds are one in 12 in Mike minor starts with a loss here on Monday they are now one and 13. In Mike minor starts. And only one of those losses was by less than two runs. Well, go figure after Monday, now two of the 13 losses are by less than two runs as the reds hit a solo home run in the bottom of the 8th inning. They lose the game four to three, so Phillies win, but they don't cover. We'll take a look at the playoff picture coming up next and he changes any changes in our philosophy when it comes to which teams we will see in the postseason. Goldschmidt's 3 RBIs reaches 1,002, Cards beat Reds 6-3
"The cardinal 6th victory in 9 games is a 6 three decision over the reds Paul Goldschmidt drove in three runs to go over 1000 career RBIs Goldschmidt and Tyler O'Neill hit consecutive home runs in the fourth inning O'Neill's two run blast broke a two two tie and Goldschmidt followed with his 22nd Homer of the year Nolan Arenado collected three hits including two of the red bird 6 doubles Steven Matz picked up the wind but left in the 6th inning with a strained left knee I felt really good This is you know so it's so frustrating right now is that that's probably the best I thought all the year Mike minor dropped his 5th straight decision and fell to one in 7 I'm Dave

"For this step last, one thing I have heard a frequent refrain about the angels this year is that they have trout and ohtani having these fantastic seasons and they're still pretty bad. And they're still pretty bad for obvious reasons, right? The rest of the rasters. So actually dense and borsky had a very un fun fact for angels fans at least in his zips update for the AL this week at where he noted that the angels restor has 16 players below replacement level over the last 30 days. So most of their wrestler by a good margin has been below replacement of over the past month, contrast that he writes with the Yankees who have only two sub replacement level players over that same span with one of them, Miguel and duhart, playing in just two games. So yeah, that will drag you down if you have a stars and scrubs rest and your scrubs are that bad. It's hard to outweigh that, but I have wondered what precedent there is for a team having two teammates that productive and still having a losing record, so we could formulate this in various ways right now, ohtani is on pace for, I think, in 8 plus war season, trout has been slumping lately. And so he's down to about a 7 and a half win pace, a mere 7.5 war pace. So if we were just to set the minimum at two 7 plus win players on the same team, there have been, according to Kenny Jacqueline, who ran this query for me at baseball reference, 18 teams in the AL or NL that had two players post 7 plus baseball reference were and still have a losing record. I think only four of them were with two position players doing it, although maybe that makes sense because there are fewer position players than pitchers at least in this era and I guess it's not purely a position player either. But there have been four of those. I'll just put the list online and link on the show page. But just to go down here, starting from the best sub 500 winning percentage to the worst. If we are even going to count this, there was the 1889 Philadelphia quakers Charlie buffington had an 11.1 war in Ben Sanders had 7.5. They were 63 and 64. That's a four 96 winning percentage. Then at four 94, 80 and 82, we have the 1964 Dodgers who are one of only two teams to have two 8 plus war players and still have a losing record, which could very well happen for the angels this year. So Willie Davis had 8.3 war that year in Don Drysdale had 8.3 and they were still 80 and 82. So put a pin in that. They're one of the two. Then we have 1912 Cleveland vien Gregg and shoeless Joe Jackson. They had 7.2 and 9.5 respectively a four 90 winning percentage for them. Then you have the 54 Phillies, Richie Ashburn and Robin Roberts. They had a four 87 winning percentage. Recently, the 2019 rangers lent Flynn and Mike minor had 7 plus wins apiece, but four 81 winning percentage. And, you know, this is a product of baseball reference pitching war, which not everyone loves, and I do prefer fan grafts pitching war myself, but 1992 cubs, you had Greg Maddux and ryne Sandberg, they ended up with a four 81 winning percentage, as did the 1987 Red Sox, also 78 and 84, and they were the other team that had two 8 plus war players and still could not break even wade Boggs had 8.3 words that year. Roger Clemens had 9.4 and still always team. Then 1936 Red Sox, west Ferrell and lefty grove four 81, 1890 giants, the immortal Jack glasscock, not immortal, unfortunately, but his name will live on forever. And Amos russi, they were for anyone winning percentage two. Yes. What if what if he had a glass ass too? I believe I may have paid that joke of the class. How could you resist? But you know what? I wanted to make it again. Sorry to interrupt your train of thought. But this is what I had to contribute. Comes up, please feel free to remake that joke. Then we have another unique team, the 1932 giants are the only team ever to have three 7 plus war players and still have a losing record. So how about that? Carl Hubble 7.4 were Mel at 8.3 and Bill Terry 7.7, and somehow they went 72 and 82. That's the 40 68 winning percentage. So maybe that makes the angels look good. You can actually do it with three players. Then you have the 1975 White Sox, goose gossage and Jim cott four 66, 1927, White Sox, Ted lions and Tommy Thomas, four 58, 1977 angels, there is an angel's precedent Nolan Ryan and Frank tanana four 57 winning percentage 2001 rockies Todd Hilton and Larry walker four 51, 1987 Dodgers oral hershiser and bob Welch, four 51, 1965 cubs, Ron Santo and Billy Williams, four 44, second to last, 1996, Bernard gilkey and Lance Johnson, four 38 winning percentage who knew that Bernard gilkey had an 8 war season in there somewhere. And finally, top or bottom of the list, it's another angel's team appropriately the 1993 California angels Chuck Finley, 7.1 were Mark Langston 8.5. They went 71 and 91. That is a four 38 winning percentage. So it has been done before, perhaps it has been surpassed in some ways before, although there is, I suppose, the variability of war and the vagaries of that stat and difficulty of quantifying defense and some of the quirks of baseball reference pitching war and all that. So if you want to say, if trout and ohtani end up with 7 plus four, we can be pretty confident that they were really that good in that valuable, because they're trapped not. We've seen them do that before. So there's not a lot of small samples, statistical uncertainty. It's my trout and Shohei Ohtani. So if they do it, it would be yet another embarrassment and poor reflection on the angels roster composition, but it really is sad because we were watching the angels game as Otani was pitching on Wednesday and my wife who mostly watches angels games when she watches baseball. Every time we watch the angels now, it seems like I am introducing her to new players.

"It's interesting because there's still bad. Wait, they're not. We don't think they're going to be very good. As a team, they have .1% on social winning the World Series. They have 9.3% playoffs. They're still not going to be good, but it suggests that they may be anticipate being good soonish in a way that I find intriguing given just how thoroughly they seem to have committed to the fire sale. So that was the part of the signing that I found the most sort of interesting. Oh, how soon do you think you're gonna be good? 'cause it's gotta be pretty soon for this to make sense. Now, as we spent the first ten minutes of this episode talking, sometimes teams have a really bad sense of this stuff. And they are misaligned. But that is not my impression of the cubs front office. So I don't quite know what they think the next 5 years of their team looks like, but they clearly think it looks better than I was mentally adjusting for. And so I find that part of this to be pretty fascinating. Yeah, because a lot of the bright spots on the roster last year at least in the second half were players who surprised and kind of came out of nowhere and were fun, but also potentially. Yeah, fluky and older than you think they are with the Patrick wisdoms and the Frank schwinn's and the Raphael ortegas. So I guess it's good that they are bringing in some more established players and not counting on those performances continuing, but yeah, it does make me recalibrate where I think the cubs are or where I think the cubs think they are. So it has kind of confusing, but I am very eager to watch Suzuki and see what he turns out to be because the stats in Japan have been incredible. And he does a lot of things well. And the projection systems are perhaps not quite as sold on all of that translating fully, but there are a lot of scouts who have submitted glowing reviews. So it seems like he should be a fun player and at least there's something to watch. It won't be Chris Bryan and it won't be Kyle schwarber and it won't be javi Baez, but at least it'll be say a Suzuki and Marcus stroman, I guess. Well, and as we also spent the beginning part of this episode establishing, I am a fan of teams that are not necessarily going to be good, at least giving their fans something to be excited about. And he won't be the only player on their roster that you can say that for, but he'll definitely be one of them. So that's kind of cool. And speaking of that kind of move, I think the sentimental favorite signing of all of the baseball infinite this week, which we talked about with dancing when he was on the show recently and kind of fantasy casted Zach grenke to the royals and that actually happened this week for one year and $13 million, which I think brought warm feelings to everyone's heart just to see cranky back in the royals uniform. He is obviously diminished at this stage of his career, but still very much in the crafty righty mold, I guess, and still has the guile and the finesse in the command and can still get hitters out and he's still fun to watch because he has so many pictures and a brown range of speeds. And just to see him go home to the royals should be a lot of fun. So I mean, some of the royals reunion stories of recent years have not actually worked out all that well, but this one, this I like a lot just because of what he meant to that franchise and what it meant to him earlier in his career before he went to the brewers and just getting to see things go full circle like who doesn't love Zach reiki and I love the idea of watching him in the powder blue again. Yeah, I think it's great. It's just, it's just a very exciting kind of fun thing and I'm glad he gets to, I mean, I just like it when people get to go where they want to be and it seems like that's where he wants to be and who knows how long he'll be able to be a big leaguer and he might soldier on on one year deals for a while or maybe this will be kind of the end of the line for him, but if it is like very cool to get to go back to the beginning and do it on your own terms. Pretty cool. Yeah, so I guess we have hit on most of the major signings there and we mentioned the Amir Garrett trade that was another royals reunion that maybe didn't work out all that well. So Mike minor going back to Cincinnati with cash most important to the reds probably. And then the Giants made some smaller signings, Jack Peterson and Matt Boyd. So get your matte Boyd NL Cy Young. Bets in for this year and Peterson who, I guess, was less of an extreme platoon split guy last year than he had been before when he was treated that way, but historically has been that tape but the Giants did a great job last year of mixing and matching and playing matchups and finding the right times to play players to make the most of their strength..

"Those was A lot more closer than i thought this would be an okay. You gotta give credit to the cubs score hanging around and the guy down. They tied back up. But you know we got the lucky wild pitch in the bottom of the night than they were phillies. We're able to walk it off in thing that really obviously helped them in the L. e. standings. I think they're only what three and a half games out or some three games and other braves game got postponed today because of bad weather but That we got it over the line and then like you mentioned Couple pitching changes for us. I was gonna fade. Mike minor yesterday but got changed to hernandez and the as still to curb business against Against the rolls yesterday. I think they want to all the ten and right now. They're two in the top of the night so You know we'll see how that goes by you. Know a a win is a win. And we'll we'll take the w any day of the week. Yeah mine's My dog still alive tonight. Isn't it tyler. Alexander is going for detroit. Which i was i was cool would get a win. It's the it's up to for bullpen. I think someone paid off. Somebody head pictured tampa bay going in his is an open started off. So i think the tags on the live doppler but it won't be an official due to the pitching changes weeks news will surround just a few little bits and bobs. Because obviously the scots here. So we've got all the good stuff to get to. Julio last i became the first pitcher to get to eighteen wins for the dodgers on the season. he's kind of being overlooked. I think he's to be overlooked. We've entered once or twice Assad because he's always been twenty five hundred thirty three and mainly because a couple of the names For example cheers. He's on the roster with him. he's been outstanding season. And i think he gets a little. Bit short-changed me up these pitch conversations. I definitely that's true having said that. I'm kind of curious. How the cy young awards going to play out because you have basically three guys on the same team that are just cannibalizing votes from each other. Is you mentioned shirts. You can't forget about bueller and you also got a mention your. I just think it's kind of funny. Now that kershaw's back in the rotation because he's healthy again that he might be the best number four starter like in a single season ever which is kinda funny. I'm trying to think of other comparisons. You have the orioles team that had four separate twenty game winners back. When jump jim palmer was still there but the point is is that your is has been great. Is it going to win the award. No you can be in the nomination. Maybe if it was the same criteria they used to use just over inflated how how valuable wins war because that's where he ranks but the issue is is that is on even the best pitcher on his team is not even the second best pitcher in his rotation. He's not going to win the award. Of course i still think is a very good pitcher. And there's a reason why he ended up closing the deciding game in the world series last year of the bullpen is because roberts realized he was really good but he's had a great year..

Are you going to be that guy that walks since the casino and bed on the color. That just keeps coming up. Where are you going to be a guy that's gonna fade and thinking the other side's going to come but i'm going to be that guy that backs that same color meaning fading mike minor. But like we talked about that. I'm just fading. Mike minor here if there is a pitching change in iowa and kind of disclaimer out there is that whatever is matching up against mike minor. I would recommend probably going with the first time because you take a look at his just his game log. his last three starts like you mentioned with the mets. Despite it being a seven inning game we win a five innings in the previous game against the padres where he pitched four innings and then the previous game against the orleans. You went five and two thirds. His is ceiling has kind of been that five inning mark. So i would probably do. Yeah i think. I five innings is is probably your best bed to go because not sure how much you trust the bullpen But you know like you mentioned this guy that we've been talking about all these long or when he came up in about mid june is a guy that you wanted to keep an eye on our recommend doing that. "But generally as i'm sure you you know you're gonna bring up is into divisional rivals don't necessarily trade not necessarily but you know you still wanna make your team better and right. I don't think trading merrill kelly something that the d-box you're going to the day they traded merrill. I think they could do that. Still get a solid piece back from a very deep padre system and if anything the padres would be like dat. We traded this young guy who who ended up being studied for them. So they could do that. I think they try to avoid injury division. But if you have to you have to do it. I think this next guy. I watch too much of him. This year i was brought in mike minor coming in i was too and i really thought we were gonna see something and the skills have still been there for the most part this year but he has a five forty five. Era and part of it. I mean he's allowed. The most earned runs in baseball and been home runs. That have really done a one point. Four rate has been terrible. You look at underlying skills like why are you so terrible. He has a four twenty-five sierra which is perfectly useful. But as far as one point two runs higher and i look at somebody who was wildly inconsistent seemingly from start to start inning to inning his arsenal fails or succeeds for him and he just has not been able to find his footing. And now we're going on a second year of this fifty six and two thirds last year same type of deal for twenty sierra five six era. What's going on with mike minor and is it just something where his inconsistency and the fact that his home runs are the big damage on him. Make it so that he has this wide. Era and sierra or whatever era indicator of your choice he has this wide gap is that is on. His promise is just home runs or is there more to it with minor. Minor is just frustrating on so many levels We saw kind of in in the spring that he was at ninety to ninety four now this year ninety and change and sometimes ninety one really hovering ninety one not the same with that fast. Just not nearly as good of a pitch now. There have been times when he does succeed in season. And when that happens it's because he's able to go around the edges with fastballs and then get his change slider working for strikes but you know compared to last year Thirty six percents w on his changeup last season for minor twenty-seven percent this year is taking a major step back inside the zone. He's tried to really too much on getting chases outside the zone without pitch and it's he just doesn't have a good strike getting offering now. Nothing's above thirty five percent in his secondary's while he needs then third too many vassals in the zone he gets hammered with it. And it's just not a fun site at the moment. I think there are moments that minor can do well. But if i'm looking for potential guys to trust on for august september. Mike minors not. I think this ends up. Being a fit would be teams. That need not somebody that has to rely upon him as like not a savior. Somebody that they're going to need to go to every day. So i think it would be going back to looking at those teams that just needs some depth and they may be throw him in the pen when they stabilized so maybe the mets are fit here where they use him for a little while right now and then as they get their pieces back. He's been in the pen before and been great. So maybe they would say we're going to pivot you back into the bullpen. Once our guys are fully healthy. So i think it's going to be the teams that are just looking to improve around the edges. And maybe maybe that isn't giants fit. Then if we're talking about somebody who would be cheap not really cost anything and doesn't have to start. Maybe that's what they go for. Although i will say he has a nine million dollar contract for next year to pay that the giants have fixed some guys though exactly their home. Location is fixed guy. That could be really really interesting to see so that i liked that call out there and maybe they see something in him. Where like hey if we do this this and this we get him fixed. I don't know all right. We're we finally jumped down another level from kelley to minor. So we're in this this bottom tier now of against supplemental guys. But i think tyler anderson from pittsburgh could be another one of those guys that somebody gets and they don't have to necessarily go to them all the way but they need some innings to get to the finish line and he can be part of those innings. He's shown flashes this year at the beginning of the year. He was doing some things differently. That i thought were legitimate and i was pretty intrigued by him. Frankly i should have put above minor. His results have been markedly better But that's neither here nor there. He's also rental. You won't cost anything. Is the left tyler anderson. Somebody that you can see helping a playoff team at least get to the regular season finish line. Even if he's not necessarily a playoff piece for them sir. I i mean just just to put this out there. The reason we had minor above taylor anderson's because he showed a ceiling that anderson couldn't reach exactly the higher the better fastball in the spring. They just didn't show up and the season now so it's understandable that we would have minor head of him i but yeah i mean. Tell anderson toby that that's a useful thing in the real world when you have a one nineteen web. I i could. Yeah a lot of these teams that we've mentioned already The padres i. I can think of Bluejays could use another just someone that isn't anything and that's their back end just to get six regular even see the yankees getting him because they've had to turn to bullpen games every so often they don't want to go to michael king again tolerance. It would be helpful. And he's a guy that has a thirty two percents is w on that four seamer has a slider that comes in gets a good amount of strikes. You know zone about sixty one percent of the time of the seventy four percent strike rate. That's kind of crazy. Slider normally you see in the fifties or so if sometimes a sixty s seventy five is just as wild Changeup is in and out. There are times when that becomes the whiff pitch and a game more times than not. It's it's just kind of their randomly when that pitches working and he gets strikes with slider. And that establishes was fast. It's really really wanted to flouting. But that's about a coin. Flip if you're going to see that in a given start so there are some good aspects of tyler anderson. Put him with the right club. I mean you can have a nice run for them if they acquire the deadline looking at anderson. We'll say you know there. There's a little bit of a home road split because he does play blame. Pnc but i see a one twenty four wit a one point six whip on the road with actually a better strikeout right and it tells me that the five forty era might not be indicative of who he is sure. I went in the lean too heavily. It might be a symbol similarity to what you brought up with gibson where it happens that his two worst starts are on the road at atlanta and washington. It's not indicative that he's getting pummeled on the road. Every time out so don't make too much of that. I do think if he goes to a better team in fantasy that it would help him at least Get better winds potential. Because obviously seem way better than pittsburgh. So if you're chasing wins and you can afford four forty era type. If you're in a deeper league anderson would be a guy for you whereas you know something's other guys might have their era improve along with the wins You know like the whip is still can always good. Yeah it's already good so if you can even if you not the ra might not be so good and you need with and wins tile anderson..

"Craig kimbrel once again. But i think they stay away from the starting pitching and they look at somebody like chris sale who dominated in a rehab appearance at aa yesterday ultimately as being a quote unquote trade deadline acquisition. Because they haven't had him all year and he's looking to return in mid august which will obviously be a huge bump to their rotation. So i don't think they go into complete buyer moats. I don't think they're gonna go for broke this year. But i do think they add an arm to the bullpen. Potentially to help bolster their opportunity for the new york yankees. You gotta have them as a buyer. I mean gm. Brian cashman has said that he is in buyer mode heading to the trade deadline. Their primary focus is on an everyday center fielder to replace the impact that aaron hicks was expected to have since he's been hurt. You could look for starting pitching to supplement garrett cole while they wait for severino kluber to potentially return. I just think that In new york again playing better baseball of late has put themselves back into the buyer consideration. And we've heard them being mentioned with starling martin and center field as potentially being an option. So i look for them to add a bad offensively because surprisingly they've been struggling in that aspect and the american league central the indians. This is a team. That's on the fence right. They've been selling some pieces off. This off. Season will endure carrasco now. They're kind of in the middle of a planet chase sear when it comes to the american league yes there behind the white sox but are looking to potentially compete for that wildcard. So could they sell off guys like cesar hernandez who potentially is available. He's under team. Control through twenty twenty two. I think he could be in the mix. He's got a six million dollar option next year so he's not going to be super expensive but they would be looking to add starting pitching depth. So maybe moving some position players to get some rotation guys back. if you're cleveland. The kansas city royals. I think they're going to be sellers at the deadline. But i don't think they're going to sell off a ton of talent. I mean guys. Like carlos santana mike minor could potentially be trade chips danny duffy. We've heard as well. So i don't think they go full cellar moat and really blow this thing up to look at that next wave. But they're certainly not going to be adding here in the near future. The detroit tigers. They're going to be a seller. I it's not a fire sale. I mean again. You're not going to sell off any of the young talent. They have their but jonathan shoop. He's headed the free agency. "Over call. Yes you can. I can also make the case for brennan woodruff over coal and i've ranked coal ahead of these guys in that general tier but i have have great hesitation in doing it. You're right that something has affected here for the planning purposes fantasy wise. The yankees have left some uncertainty that friday saturday. Just be careful from your lineup. Setting things he might and probably will pitch saturday's game against cranky but in terms of using them. I'm scared by this matchup even going back to houston as the reunion. Or what is it the revenge game. I'm scared by this matchup. He'll upstart him. But i don't think it's going to be great numbers to you. You know what i mean. I think he's really good. Anything is arguably one of the two or three pitchers in baseball and he just giving rose numbers this game. That's a seven inning four. But if and you don't use them in dfs for this game but if you haven't been any finish the maximum of course right but but to your point about worrying about that that it's not gonna be great numbers you might wanna dabble in the trademark. It with him. When i yeah. I would. I would think about trading in i would think about trading anybody if it was a good deal even otani but like if somebody offered me otani for garrett call right now though yeah i would do it when you on our game. Yeah i would do it. I mean how when i my rankings house otani not my top ten. He has to be. It's got to be the only anti otani case for top. Ten is is the workload if they rain in the workload and that's going to be in the pitching side. I think he's different. I think he's going to be fine. I think he stays healthy. I think he hits he pitches. I think this is an incredible generational talent. And i'm no longer betting against this guy being able to stay healthy in a dual role. I just i'm not gonna do it. He's amazing. I love it. What's interesting baseball or and we've seen this with the in season. Regression candidates is. I wonder whether next year is when he pays the workload price. And i pay a price at all. This is asking a lot of a guy who did very little during the past three years with a pandemic year in twenty twenty. I do think there will be a small regression. Probably small regression. So let's say we both agree. This is our number five player right now. Okay for the rest of the season are you ranking in your top twenty for next year. How can i not think you have to. But i do it with some hesitation. I mean he has to be in the top ten. I i know what you're saying about workload. But he's breaking the mold here. He's not like anybody else. Nobody's ever done this. Not even the yankee slugger in the twenty s which is his you should should keep. The regression in mind is because nobody's ever done this. Let's let's keep going here on the shedule here. That was friday schedule saturday. There are day games. And then the last game of the day has herman marquez is really really good at san diego joe. Must grove is really really inconsistent. I mean moscow just and paddock or driving me insane. A couple of my leagues. You wrote about kris flex. And he's at home against the angels and otani us flexing their wouldn't you what it's not a great matchup is good. Enough is a solid unbalanced. Lineup i mean the top of that line david fletcher by the way has a hidden every game for the last month. Otani and jared walser awesome even without random a trout. That offense yet. where's runs. Those two alone could give flexing some headaches. But i think he gives you enough numbers to be worthwhile here. I would agree with dad. Mike minor a cleveland. There's a streaming opportunity. Cleveland just got no hit again yesterday. It's not a good offense. Jose ramirez banged up. I don't know. Mike minor has been kinda bad recently but i think that's a good opportunity to use him when it is. There is a downside because there's variety bats that could cause them headaches and because he hasn't pitched well. I'm not gonna just give you the automatic seven one. Run kind of thing but starting good matchup. I'm all in james comp- ralian of oakland texas spend texas lineup and comprising continues to prove every outing even against good line-ups that he's really really good. And i refuse to believe that he can't stay healthy for six months just because he hadn't in the past he's god he's great i mean may- maybe an ice cap. They've kept him pretty well in check up to this point. I'm not that worried about it at all. I mean i think when when you get to july you have to stop worrying about like obviously innings caps different. But you have to stop worrying about health issues. Okay like whether it's an old guy richhill or younger are probably not even that young. He's like twenty seven but like they're doing it. They're rich chills. Not doing it of late. But you know what i mean. The point is like refused to say guys going to get her just because he has in the past because that's not it. They go hand in hand. I'm not worried about. They're gonna get hurt. I'm worried about that. The teams will ease off like chris. Paddock thing a couple of years ago. It was for the padres way in the past. What do you mean there was the dude Eight or ten years ago that they remember they kept them in check they were they were playoff contenders padres. I coulda sworn it was this free. Paddock pre strasbourg. Obviously well strasbourg was one of them. Yeah i can't talking about like they were contenders and they just didn't use a guy. There was a guy like paddock. And i feel like it was san diego. You know maybe a half decade. Before that he pitched really great they used them a lot and then they almost shut them down entirely the final two months not bennis not rico's.

"Players and add that onto the fact that the rector in July and as good a position as they've been since 2014 and Charlie, you know in the rookies Jonathan India and Tyler Stevenson fast becoming The fans are just falling in love with these rookies and their producer. Both rookies have adjusted to the adjustments. They both went in slumps kind of a different points in May. But since then India has exploded and become one of the more productive table setters at the top of the line up at the Reds have had since since he Ju on top of that, Stevenson. He's the rare player who Doesn't start every day. But when he does you better enforced because you're that comfortable in what he brings to light up, um and again having two of those guys to have babies about five rookies in the entire National League on the same team together. It's kind of that new wave old waves with some of the veterans I mentioned early. You know, the trade deadline is coming. I'm often asked. Are they buyers? Are they sellers? Will they stand Pat? Hey, The next 2.5 or three weeks will tell us that And David E. Armbrister arm. Brewster asked me a question today on since the 3 60 on ESPN 15 30. Hey, come trade deadline if a team really wants Tucker Barnhart with the emergence of a Tyler Stevenson Charlie. I don't want the chemistry of this team to get upset, but Man if somebody really came hard after a guy like Tucker Barnhart I might have to look at it. You. Obviously you obviously have to get something up Good to get something good. That's the number one rule of making a trade. But it is worth noting that Tucker Barnhart numbers while it ticked below. Stevenson's are as good as they've been in Tucker's career, and not as far as which, as you would think. As far as Howard Stevenson. And then again what Stevenson is developing and working and building himself into a veteran presence as a catcher, and he has had those moments this season. You look at all the truly gold glove moments the Barnhart has had that you're the one that stands out to me is his double play to virtually win the game on a Thursday in ST Louis, Barnhart is one of the more harder to replace players and leaders on the Reds. My perspective on the situation. I I appreciate that, and man I've got to agree with you because every time we watching play what a phenomenal defensive player and then just batting from the left side Up. He's really, really improved there. Now, with this trade deadline, and you know, we all know that Nicosia who signed a four year $64 million contract, but the first two years opt out clauses. So I think reds fans, pins and needles that you know. Will he come back next year, man? Don't you just wish the Reds could hopefully tear up his current contract? And I mean keep this guy because he's the heart and soul of his team. You'd hate to lose him after this year. Nick Castellanos quietly as one of the best hitters in his age range. In all of baseball. You look at the players his age who have done what he has done, and there's the game superstars and from Scott's perspective from the plate make cost the others. Has performed extremely close to that level during his career, and on top of that is arguably the best hitter in baseball this season. So my perspective on Castano says he creates an urgency to win. It's almost as special of a season as Trevor Bauer season on the mound last year. Now the Reds are getting that at the plate. Which is even harder to to replicate and again cast the others creates. I think a sense of urgency to win this season and with the Reds Royals tonight eight 11th pitch Vladimir Duty, Ariz. On the mound against Mike Minor lefty. I mean, this is a critical stretch. They have to at least win two out of three and Casey and then you march into Milwaukee for for Charlie. Man, this is hi. This is high tension here. I mean, what more could you want in seven games upcoming against the Brewers? The only reason the Brewers are as far in front as they are right now is because of how they just beat up on bad teams over the last few weeks. Well, now read here you go. A team that isn't in the playoff race. That you can build some winds up upon gain more ground. All the birds heading into those pivotal games that pivotal start to the season. Oh, this is great stuff, Charlie. Thanks so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to join us. We love Rayna. And thank you so much. This is great. Love it any time I'll talk to you soon. I don't know if he's is he don't have the talent of a tattoo Jr. Or, you know somebody like that Mike trout or rather tune you, junior But, um You know, I think that you know Dylan Carlson. A lot is expected from him. I think Kansas City has a young Prospect that didn't break with the team. But Bobby with junior shortstop, I think you know he's a lot of buzz around him. Um, I think that's uh you know one Tampa Bay wander. Franko infielder. Number one prospect. I referenced the Tigers having five of the top 30 prospects in the game, according to baseball America, the number one guy on the list is wonder Franco from Tampa Bay. Pittsburgh is gonna be awful. But Charlie Hayes remember him the old third baseman his son at their base. Pirates. Bryan Hayes. He's another one that we're going to hear from. So you know, and then the White Sox No, he played last year. But Louise Robert, I think is going to get better and better and better, he said. I know I'm taking the screen shot right now that the Tigers are leading male Sandra. I don't know how long that will last after one game, But how do you break down that group between the White Sox Royals twins? Tigers and Indians. Yeah. You know, I think I don't see how the Indians they do have pitching but losing Frank Francisco Indoor and some of the other guys they've lost. I think they'll be competitive. But I just I think the twins and White Sox are the class of the league. Um Kansas City could be sneaky. Good. Um, you know, adding Carlos Santana and Mike Minor. Um, you know, they've got a nice line up. The Royals do, um, you know, and then once Bobby with junior comes up, and they've got some really good young arms in that system, guys like Alec Marsh and Asia Lacey Daniel Lynch. We've got a number of power arms and Kansas City that not many people know about. So I think the Royals are team to watch they and the Tigers, you know, both and rebuild right now. No Kansas City is gonna be stacked. We talked about the prospects of tigers have I think for this year? Yeah, I know Tim Anderson, the shortstop for the whites. I said that You know they're the best team in the American League. I like the confidence, but I think the twins may have something to say about that. We'll see how it plays out. I think This year. White socks and twins are think the division goes between them. Um, I think over the next couple years, you'll see the Tigers and Kansas City getting better. That's all projection for the Tigers over under for wins was around 63. I kind of by that. I know a J. Hinch. I know the staff. I I think some of the pickups like Grossmann top of the lineup, they could. They could push seventies low seventies and exceed that, But I'm trying to figure out at what point will they be contenders, and they get that blend between Their farm system. And then they upgrade on free agents. A sad a year away two years away. What do you think in Scotty? I say. I think if everything goes right this year, it could be a year away. I mean, most likely, probably two years away, but, you know, I mean, that's that's part of the fun of watching. Developing team, right? I mean, you know, the That's why I like this game can be enjoyed on different levels. And I know for so long. The Tigers you know, back when they had Justin Verlander Mac's shares, or I mean, they were contending, and obviously that's the most fun. As far as This year. You know, I think the fun is going to be watching to see how the guys like school and Boyd can continue to develop. Um Your minds. And if This year. Oh, tell us, you know, I mean, we could get this September. You could see some big time development. And if that's the case that I think you know it could be next winter when they start adding some free agents. But you know if we get the August or September and you know, three or four of the better young players Whatever reason haven't developed, you know that That would be a couple years away. Baseball Tonight with Buster Olney
It's a strange trade market for starting pitchers in MLB
"Say a strange. <hes> trade market for starting pitchers which is really for this summer is at the center of the trade market. I was looking at you know sort of broad strokes. There are a couple of potential free agents who are available in Trade Zach Wheeler the mets but he's coming off the injured list to start on Friday. Jason Vargas of the mets Madison Bumgarner is a tweet it out yesterday. These like the image on on Mardi Mais flies family picture in back to the future. He's disappeared slowly. We right from the trade market. I'm I know that the giants loss yesterday but I think in less the giants are swept by San Diego over the weekend I think Bumgarner staves with the giants and they keep him for the rest of the urine they ride out how while they're playing now. Because Far Han Zaidi I either had a baseball OPS first year there. It'd be so difficult for him to continue to try to do business in that town in that organization if he pulled up the roots of this great run that they've been on without <hes> you know giving him a chance has to play it out and so bumgarner disappearing but they're a bunch of starting pitchers being talked about who are under teen control beyond this your Trevor Bauer Stroman Noah Syndergaard Robbie Ray the diamondbacks Mike Minor. Enter the Rangers Matthew Voided the Tigers and there are fewer buyers in there are those type of pitchers. The Astros are going to get a starting pitcher Yankees Braves phillies Oakland twins. Perhaps maybe the brewers although I wonder her if if they would necessarily be a big buyer so it's it's a really kind of a strange pitching market because you would assume that moves you're going to be made but it really comes down to okay which of the sellers blue jays the Indians maybe blink a little bit and come off. They're really high demands to try to bridge the gap with some of the buyers what you read on where some of these guys might land yeah. That's I think your take on the teams. Every eighteen you listed seems likely to at least want to acquire a starter. They want necessarily all do so obviously but I think every one of the has an actual knee and his position in a position in the standings word probably makes sense to do so. I wanted to just jump back to Bumgarner for one second. I agree with you. I date that the public reaction to them trading bumgarner would be very poor right now. The starting seem is not actually that good though they've been outscored they unless they look been outscored on the season. It's really unlikely that they're gonNA make the playoffs Joe Sheehan wrote about this in his newsletter his email newsletter yesterday to talk about how various sites fan graphs in baseball perspectives of the giants playoff playoff odds is extremely low.
