"Said this morning a United Nations panel of scientists will release a major study on climate change the report from the intergovernmental panel on climate change will track how high a temperature is a melting ice in Greenland and Antarctica and driving up sea levels around the world we've been speaking to our environment correspondent Mike McGraw we don't actually know what the report will say until we get some details from the scientists meeting here in Monte Carlo Monaco later this morning they've been here for the last week or so working with government officials on a report that they be in three years in the making and as you say it looks at the oceans the oceans around the world and the cryosphere less the frozen bits on land like place here is on the ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica and it looks at how those things are being impacted by climate change how the warming world is causing more melting how that's impacting on sea levels how that's changing the chemistry in the nature of the seas I with the long term implications are far humans everywhere living around the world because everybody they say in the report are there likely to say in the report we'll have some connection with the seas and that is likely to be altered by warming over the next century when not to one of the things that struck me in reading this online it says the ocean has often been described as a friend in the pasta but this could potentially become awful how how's it becoming Wes yeah for decades non for even centuries we've relied on the seas to get us out of trouble when it comes to kind of climate warming over the last hundred fifty years we've been pumping about thirty percent of the carbon dioxide that's produced in humans from driving cars and flying in planes all that goes into the oceans get soaked up by the seas without any complaint since the nineteen seventies about ninety percent of the excess heat that's been generated by human activities has gone into the oceans as well so the sea is being there as large as a large reservoir essentially taking over our problem and if that was to come back on to land they would have devastating impacts.
