Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy: "We're closer than you may think we are."

"Let's go to Dallas, his head coach Mike McCarthy. He made some bad decisions in Game one up against the Rams, not kicking the field goal early in the fourth late in the game, his team taking his time. When there should have been more urgency. Here's Mike McCarthy saying that analytics because now Mike McCarthy's Mr Analytics indicate the Cowboys there on the right track overall, you know, just to give it our all of our football team. Frankly, we looked like a football team that played his first game in some areas and another is I thought we don't have a lot of really good things. So we have a grating index that we put a lot of time into. And So we're closer than you may think we are.

NFL reminds teams to follow sideline rules on face coverings

"The National Football League is threatening to find head coaches if they don't adhere to Corona virus rules requiring face masks on the sidelines. During the first weekend of games. Some coaches were saying not wearing coverings. We have the latest from NPR's Tom Goldman. In a Monday memo to the NFL's 32 teams. We'd executive Troy Vincent praised what he called the tireless efforts to make the season possible during the pandemic. But Vincent also warned those who defy rules unmasks everyone in team bench areas on the field except players has to wear a face covering in all times. Failure to do so, Vincent wrote, will result in accountability measures against individuals and or clubs. Those measures include finds during Sunday's nationally televised game between Dallas and the Los Angeles Rams. Does Dallas have legit beef on offensive pass interference call?

"Let's talk some aforementioned cowboys in La taken on the rams. Here we go. Brandon boys down three DAK finds Michael Gallup down the sideline third and ten get him into field goal range but but hang on wait one second. A flag is thrown on the play for offense, a pass interference Gallup flag for contact with Jalen Ramsey and. The cowboys rams win it twenty to seventeen spoiling Mike. McCarthy's debut spoiling DAX season opener spoiling will you get how spoiling works? Here's the head coach on that costly pass interference call. Re I really didn't see a replay of it just watching it live. It looked like two guys hand fighting I thought it was well executed. I was I was surprised a call there. either. Way So. Very obviously disappointed in the in the call particularly at that point in the game I I thought they live both teams play tonight and you know you just don't usually see that particularly. Critical point a game. So I have not seen a it. That's about as much as I can comment on. It was clear as day they wouldn't have called then I would have been. Highly upset So it was clear as day opinion. Also. But that's what I. That's what I saw in filled out there. All right. Then the lots of get to in this one, let's start with that offensive. Pi Brandon. You've been moaning and groaning through these highlights. Did you think it was a call or not what you make of it? I'll say this by the letter of the law, this was the right call but this is the call that frustrates wide receivers and quarterbacks around the glow. Alright because when you look at it, who's the first to really engage in hand combat down the sideline jail? It's usually the generally be. Of course Yup. So what are you re Mr referee what do you want me to do? Jalen has my arm. How do I get my arm away? We're taught not to be violent with the shove and not to be violent what the separation. This Gallup did exactly what he was supposed to do. Now I will say this nick let me ask you this question was the game play. The game was played with an essay, right? L. A., Hollywood. Do. You know fun fact Jalen Jalen Ramsey his his hand coach Berry. Nez. Did a phenomenal job with them. The best thing about this was Jalen Ramsey acting job he added like. Shove to the sideline. Yeah. That was the best part about it. That's why he got this call. It reminds me of the basketball players flopping. This was a bad call, but we really look at the law if we want to see this call change moving forward.

"Very respected within their locker room I know both of them pretty well, and they're just the kind of guys that will leave this team, for example, through respectability and I think that that's what is. Now learning that Mike McCarthy has and we should point out by the way. What makes us an especially good combination it seems like, is it Mike McCarthy for all the criticisms that he took toward the end in Green Bay? A lot of that did have to do with the play calling Aaron Rodgers we'd kind of get on his case Rogers by the way one of the more brilliant guys i. Can't imagine what it'd be like calling place for him in Dallas it will be Kellen more the guy who's calling plays for Dak Prescott last year as well. So it feels like they've got some real good synergy in Dallas could help them in twenty twenty quite a bit the Mark First Time we've talked to you since all of this happen we spent a forever last year you and I. Talking about Dak Prescott now he's playing on the franchise tag I mean you know what it's like when you are the the the quarterback of the team are expected to be the leader and all that kind of thing is that compromised in any way by these circumstances the fact that the team hasn't committed to him long-term what if any impact you expect that to have on him and their season? You, know I I really don't see it impacting him. If anything it's only gonNA push him because he knows he's on that one year deal. He's got to continue to prove himself and for the most important thing for a quarterback and a coach relationship is trust and he said he used the words love and trust. But as long as you have trust, he doesn't have to love him. He's got to respect them. But as long as you can trust him, put you in good situations it will. Be just fine and give you a couple breeder plays your brain's going a million miles a second just a couple breather place easy completions inbetween all those difficult place and I think McCarthy can do that for Ryan. How about how about the idea of here in this offense Jeff brings up an interesting point. McCarthy. was much maligned towards the end of his tenure in Green Bay but they had a lot of success together there. What do you expect the difference to be with the cowboys this year? I think the difference does it have to do with Dak Prescott and Dallas Cowboy offense I mean they were able to put up yard score points. Last year I think Mike. McCarthy is here to make your Dallas. Cowboys play will in situational.

Cowboys' Prescott doesn't get deal to replace franchise tag

"Not Deal for. Prescott and the cowboys could not agree to terms on a deal that would have the quarterback between thirty three and thirty five million dollars annually with a hundred and ten million of that guaranteed. So Daf will now play this season on the thirty one point four million dollar franchise tag. He will once again on himself this season if there were reports that the two sides were close, they clearly were not close enough. WHO's more likely to regret? Not Getting a deal done deaf Prescott or the Dallas Cowboys. I'm going to say. Despite the fact that I believe is going to end up the highest paid player than Patrick Mahomes in NFL, history I Dak is going to get the money that he ultimately wanted I think he's going to be franchise tag this year franchise tag next year and then hit open free agency. But here for deck that in the in the pursuit of that money, he's going to become an athlete that I. Don't think any athlete wants to be which is your name is not your name anymore? It's not Dak. Prescott is having a Joe Johnson Joe. Johnson stopped being Joe Johnson. He started being Joe Contract because no matter how good he was, he was never going to be able to live up to that contract. And I think Jack is setting himself up to be a little bit richer than he otherwise would be. Be a guy who can never live up to that contract, and the reason I think Dallas is not gonNA regret this, even if they back on the quarterback treadmill is because the the worst thing you can have in this league. Wild does not have a quarterback. The worst thing you can have is a vastly overpaid quarterback. If you don't have a quarterback and find a new one, you can go try to find one if you have a vastly overpaid quarterback. You're just stuck and so I think Jack is going to get what he thinks he wants in this the most money in. Have ever gotten aside from Mahomes I. Think he will end up regretting it because you have a great organization, you have great skill, position guys, and if he would've just signed for Carson, Wentz plus ten percent, no one would've held it against him, and instead this contract and the negotiations around at wild. You're going to be the narrative surrounding him for years to come. See I disagree. You think that it's it's. I think the worst thing to have is a mediocre quarterback. Any shot at the super. Bowl and I'm GONNA throw to a clip of Darren Woodson in a second, but I think in our minds if it's been glossed over that, it was troy and then Tony, but there was a the drew bledsoe Weirdo error there that they were in a bad spot. If we can take a listen a Darren Woodson please hubs. In, the world when you have quarterback purgatory. Where you can. You're not good at that position. That position is holding you back from winning games, and there was a time before Tony Romo era. Where there were four years, we went five and eleven. In a week, totally struggled at that one position in in today's game that one position is means a ton means wins and losses gotta get you over the Hump in when you don't have that Clare in that position. It's a huge struggle. I'm. So. Bryan. I think this eventually gets done I. Don't know if he gets franchise again. I think that we just moved the goalposts and a long-term deals going to get done. They like each other. Dak wanted for the cowboys wanted five I. Don't think the answer is. Let's get divorced just because we can't agree. I think this eventually get works gets worked out and I. Don't think anyone has any regrets long-term. The cowboys ended up regretted. Just a bit because I think that goes out and has a very good year. This season with Mike McCarthy Mike McCarthy comes back in after winning a playoff game or two, and says we need to have Dak back now. The cowboys have to pay him that long term contract, which is going to be a little bit more than they would have had to pay him this year. Here's the question that I've always had. If if the cowboys don't love, why would they ever want to sign him to a five year deal versus the forty deal if you don't love them then? On to a four year deal, you can get rid of him quicker. Why would you want WanNa longer contract if you don't love him, and you don't know exactly what he is for your football team to me I think they know who back is they just don't WanNa, pay him because they see him as a fourth round pick. A guy that has played well in this career hasn't quite got over the Hump. I don't think they want to pay him if I'm back Prescott I, feel like I'm in a great position to meet the floor. The absolute four is thirty three to thirty five million dollar contract that you can get from some other team after the season. If things don't work out for you here in Dallas, I think a team like Jacksonville. Teams that would need a quarterback was still need a quarterback next year and would be that open market possibly if he doesn't give franchise in the floor to his contract would be that deal that he turned down this season from the cowboys.

Dallas Cowboys' Dak Prescott will play on franchise tag of $31.4M

"This was the biggest surprise I think I've said on this show. Eighty million times I thought this was going to get done We were recording this thirty seconds before the franchise tag deadline at like three, fifty, nine, twenty, five, as I'm saying this so you know. Knock on wood that it holds true, but Dak Prescott will officially going kirk cousins route as his long term extension with Dallas cowboys was left. negotiated a long term deal reports indicate that the sides broke off talks as early as march in never really hop back on the wagon the cowboys would like you to know and I wrote back in September that they were offering him more than one hundred million dollars in guarantees. Guarantees which depending on if it's a practical guarantees, are actual monetary guarantees would be an NFL record Dak Prescott would like you to know that they also insisted on an extra year of service for that privilege. It looked like he was. He was searching for more something along the lines of the Russell, Wilson, deal where it was more of a four year more compact thing, and then you can dip again, for your thirty Still Shocked I think he's a top five quarterback I thought Seth Wall Dirty Espn made a good point that if you had to round up, Fi, you know. Two or three quarterbacks that you were sure in five years, we're still going to be top five quarterbacks Dak. Prescott would certainly be one of them so I don't understand why this didn't get done I think it's a gigantic financial mistake. for the cowboys of cost themselves now the franchise tag now becomes the floor. The next franchise tag now becomes the floor for the next negotiating period, and so on and so on. We've seen how this works out. But what's the deal I wonder you know he's? He's one of the most efficient players in the league. He fits well in the offense. You kept the coordinator. Is this Mike McCarthy saying? I WANNA. Get a look at the Sky I. Yeah this one is surprising as well to me. Connor I mean it seemed like they were the last couple of weeks headed toward their kirk cousins situation, but it's still kind of stunning that they took care of their running back before their quarterback like this all dates back to that decision to sign Ezekiel Elliott I instead of taking care of the quarterback, and that and they end up here and now they're in this as you referenced this. Three, year kind of tag situation where the numbers go up, which obviously is the base negotiating point for a long term deal, so you know next year would be. This year's tag is about thirty one million next year tag is like thirty seven and a half million or so, and then they have a choice between the transition and a super high franchise tag the year after that as opposed to the long-term deal. Deal

Will Dak Prescott Sign A Long Term Deal With The Dallas Cowboys?

"Prescott. There is two hours and fifty one minutes left until Dak, Prescott, and Dallas Cowboys can work in extension if not he will be under the franchise tag for the next season earning himself thirty one point four million dollars guaranteed. With the potential chance I, guess up after this season or get franchise tag again. He is now the third quarterback in the history of franchise tags and the NFL to play on the franchise tag. If that happens obviously before after four o'clock drew brees that it what the San Diego chargers. He leaves Don Kirk cousins, does it? What The Washington redskins twice? He leaves town, so history says Dak Prescott will play. This franchise tag may be getting again even but not in Dallas Cowboy long-term. If Your Dad, how do you feel? Do you pumped about thirty one point? Four million dollars guaranteed because if I'm looking at that piece of paper I'm like fucking here we go. Yeah. He's got to be torn. I would imagine I'm sure you're excited. Okay? I'm going to be the starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys for another year. MC, thirty one million guaranteed, but he doesn't feel like he has that long term security that he wants from the team. McKay. You think I'm your guy. You're willing to pay thirty one MIL for one year. Why doesn't that don't you think you should give me five six year extension and give me big time money for down the road? That's where he's gotTA. Be Thinking, but so if he doesn't do it today though. He will become a free agent. When the League year starts next March right now after the season they can negotiate. There's another window after the season before free agency to work a long term deal. I actually had that happened after I got franchise tag the day before free agency, we worked a five year deal or four year deal, so I never hit the market, but I was franchise tag the year before, so they could still potentially do that, but I guess I five year deal was offered to Prescott. Numerous Times but DAK wants a four year deal. Cowboys won a five year deal and we've been told by everybody around the cowboys and that knows the organization that that is literally. The only holdup is a one year difference so that's very interesting to me because it feels like there's it's much bigger than just a one year difference there. Thirty three to thirty five million dollars offered with over one hundred million dollars guaranteed, so if you look at that, they know that the cowboys won a five year deal that means three years of that deal was guaranteed. The other two were not locked in for five years as opposed to attack once for four, so everybody's assuming he's going to sign that deal. They're not going to get a deal done, but it's interesting because. He could potentially get thirty seven point four or something next year if he gets franchise tag thirty seven point nine if he gets franchise tag again I, don't see them running into the situation next free agency. I don't. There's no way that the franchise tagging him again they would. You would think they get the deal done I think that they're trying to see if he and Mike McCarthy going to work, I honestly believe that I think there's now granted. They made him one hundred million dollar guarantee already, so maybe I'm wrong in thinking

Patrick Mahomes agrees 10-year deal with Chiefs worth $503m

"One of the huge headlines this week was the decade long contract that Patrick Mahomes lands in Kansas City. Will we see a ripple effect from that? Will that affect a deal for Dak Prescott? ESPN is Jeff Darlington. Will you know what? In some circumstances, I could have seen Mahomes getting a contract and maybe influencing the Doc Prescott deal, But the way it worked out, it actually won't know. I had spoken to some people before the homes got his deal done, And they implied that it Patrick Mahomes is in a little bit of a different air, No matter what. Um, Any quarterback that was coming up on his contract was not going to be able to demand that kind of money. The other situation here is that The home's ended up doing a 10 year deal. The contention between Dak Prescott the Cowboys the deck once less years, then the Cowboys willing TTO. Do they want to get five years? Dad wants to get four years. As a result, I think that the better calm pier is not Patrick Mahomes, but it's still Kirk cousins from a few years ago. Prescott now basically threatening to plan to the franchise tag and saying, If you don't pay me now, my price is only going to go higher. So this week will be very interesting. I still contend they going to get something done by July 15th. We'll have to wait and see those relationships take time, though. Nobody is patients in the NFL's. So what are you hearing about the relationship between deck and his new head coach Mike McCarthy. Look, everybody sees this as being really an ideal relationship. Personality wise, they really do meld quite nicely together, Doc, one of the most likeable one of the most enjoyable people to be around Like McCarthy, also the type of guy you can come in there and really work with Jack to a degree. Actually, I know the Cowboys fans don't want to hear this. But the relationship that Jason Garrett had with Jack I don't think it'll be that much different between these guys. And that actually is a good thing despite the outcome of Jason Garrett success, so Ah, lot of people expect this to be a really good relationship. I could, by the way, seeing This relationship prosper this year to the point where Doc next year winds up if he doesn't sign the deal now signs it later so that he can keep that marriage with McCarthy going

"Great question Jesse David Fox all right. Welcome back to the OCHO. The first half of this a little bit negative fry like. Oh God. The Sky's falling next door. Terrible COUPLES GONNA lose other sector players. I know I know that would be positive time to be really positive. And I don't think there's anybody more positive than Andy Reid and I mentioned that Mike McCarthy depending on the time that you're listening to this episode we'll speak later today The point is he speaking Wednesday about lunchtime twelve. Pm Eastern and you know this. This is the first true press conference that Mike McCarthy will give the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. And that's important. Obviously he had the one at the star but that was introductory press conference. You know this is the first time Mike. Mccarthy is going to have on the cowboys sweater right and maybe they're cowboys cap in the the whole color scheme is going to be different man. It's going to look really weird and then we're going to go to get used to so. This is the first time that he will speak to at least a legitimate degree about the plans that he and his staff half or the two thousand twenty Dallas Cowboys and seemingly beyond and so Mike McCarthy's name is obviously Percolating Because he is the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. The cowboys have a lot of things going on. Lots of storylines. And for what it's worth you can always tie anything back to the cowboys. Anything and anybody can be asked about the college when I talk to Anthony Hitchens on Super Bowl opening night. I asked him how how often do people asked about the cowboys. And you're getting the guys having the opening night for his super bowl week and he said yeah. It's been about half of my questions. That's the life when it comes to the Dallas cowboys anyway. Andy Reid Super Bowl. Winning head coach. Good for him. Andy Reid who took to the podium himself on Tuesday and just like he wasn't Miami. Andy Reid was asked about my McCarthy Miami Android was asked about Mike McCarthy once again in Indianapolis. Here's what Andy. Reid had to say courtesy of the Kansas City chiefs website. So he's he's another. He's good for the National Football League. Some of these guys that we're talking about here are good for the National Football League. They're good. They're good football coaches and they handle themselves right way. I have a ton of respect for my um he. I think he was out of football. He kinda recharged by going back. And looking at all the things he could do or do better Analyzing himself in the game and where he wanted to go to once he became the cowboys coach or whoever was going to hire them. So I think you're GonNa get even a better coach said. He was before and that was a championship caliber coach. So certainly. Very kind of Andy. Redo offer Such praise for Mike McCarthy in look. I mean. You've likely heard this comp at one point or another since Mike McCarthy was hired in now but Andy Reid is the Guy Right. If you know if Mike McCarthy is to follow any sort of path that has been set the has been trailed a or a trail blazed. Excuse me It's the one that Andy Reid. Your state right Andy Reid. This coach that had a lot of success in Philadelphia. Five should NFC championship games and Super Bowl. Appearance couldn't get over the hump. Obviously Mike McCarthy WANNA super bowl in his previous stop in Green Bay but then Andy Reid goes in Kansas City kind of sort of recreate. His career gets young. You know that was a point that a lot of people talked about in the Super Bowl. That Andy Reid was the more evolved more creative head coach offensively whereas Kosh Shanahan and his forty nine or more sort of traditional. Your play defense. Run the box and Andy. Reed's this this guy that found the fountain of Youth. And that can theoretically be McCarthy right and you look at Mike. Mccarthy had an awakening right. I mean spend a day at pro football focus. You know understands analytic send. Those are a lot of buzzwords. And there's a lot of fluff I think to that but there is a lot of legitimacy and I think there's a lot of I think there's a lot of reason to buy into it and I think that's what we're all sort of hoping for the best case scenario is that you know. Mike McCarthy does have some sort of Andy Reid to him and I think the most common response. I think you've probably been here. Okay you all probably have a cowboys fan or football fan or a friend or whatever in your life rally member. Whoever that anytime anything remotely positive comes up or something that you think. There's no way that anybody could be negative about this. You get this response with something like this. What else is he supposed to say right like? That's the response. I like. Somebody praises somebody You know somebody praises Dak Prescott. What are you going to say? It's not gonNA trash in publicly. Andy Reid is not going to go out there. And he's not GonNa Trash Mike McCarthy. I don't know what the accent that I'm doing is I'm very embarrassed. Maybe it's because this episode is airing on Wednesday and it's survivor day. Oh my gosh it's survivor day. And I'm really really really enjoying this season. I by the way I have found that I really enjoyed talking about survivor. So if you want to talk about survivor we can totally do that. But anyway And so the point was that was a really terrible Boston rob accent. But that's that's how people are like what's he going to say. Whatever he's just being a nice guy I certainly by And so that's why you shouldn't take what Andy. Reid said his gospel. But I do think you should take an andy. Reid said and feel positive. I think there are a lot of reasons a lot of legitimate and objective reasons to feel positive about Mike McCarthy and it's all kind of starting now it's worth noting that Mike McCarthy Spears Spears Goodness Gracious. I'm all over the place today and again we don't go back and edit this all right so I want you to know this is. This is the one trial through the fire. That's how we roll Nancy. I did again. I'm I'm a mess. But anyway it is noteworthy. Mike McCarthy's peers are speaking positively in so glowingly of him. Like that and for Andy Reid to say you know again that part of a little fluff but I think there's going to be even better. I think that that says a lot and I do believe that. There are a lot of coaches who are watching Mike McCarthy and rooting for him. Obviously because you wanNA root for people because you want to be nice but I think that there are a lot of coaches who get fired who are dismissed who aren't retained. Whatever you WANNA call it. And then they don't know what to do and so a lot of coaches ultimately ended up taking a coordinator job taking the next job. Taking whatever Mike McCarthy played it very differently obviously took the year off to study to learn. And if this works and you can define the definition of works however you want whether the cavs playoff team. They won the Super Bowl. Whatever but if it works then that path. That trail is going to be blazed that it again whoa but And so I think the spell of the Kansas City chiefs Andy Reed's Guy I mean he was somebody who took a year off went to NFL films in Mount Laurel New Jersey and studied and learned KC and that could be Mike McCarthy obviously in a different capacity and so I think that's cool that's cool and I think you know the I had a really sort of down tweet on On Tuesday to a spoke to low in talked about how he was he grew up a cowboys fan. He always kind of grew up rooting for the cowboys etc and Date home in our friend from DALLAS COWBOYS DOT COM tweeted out the quote and I quoted the tweet and I said Dallas Cowboys having appeared in or obviously won an NFC championship game or Super Bowl in to his lifetime. And while that's true I going to be a wet blanket. I want to be optimistic. Ought to be positive. I want to be just want to be upbeat. I've had a cup of coffee which night explain all the verbal missteps that I've had so far in this episode but I think that this is a good first step in the positive direction Our I slammed my hand on the table. Goodness RJ good together But anyway Tuesday was a good day it was a good sort of first day of NFL. Combine action. I'm really excited to hear from Mike. Mccarthy in terms of what I want to hear from Mike McCarthy I want to hear that he's not gonNA come out and say look at the seventieth overall pick we WANNA drift this we wanna Jeff that but I want to hear direction i WanNa hear I wanNA hear forecasting. I WanNa hear forward thinking this. I want to hear legitimate objective. Things that the cowboys have been in our planning on doing instead of the stuff that we've gotten for the last decade and some hopeful that we're all going to get that with Mike McCarthy whenever he does finally takes the podium which will be exciting fun draft class. Who's obviously Joe Borough? Great lied about the hands. it's really been enjoyable to watch so far it's interesting being in primetime so You know it is what it is. And that's just that's how it rolls but Hopefully your first half of the week was not as clumsy as this episode was my apologies. Goodness Chris I will be better for you tomorrow. That's what's going to happen because I'm going to get better tomorrow because I'm GonNa make sure the tomorrow a better version of myself and I was today. I'm GONNA take a day by day. One day at a time tomorrow is going to be better than today's sergeant in the next days are just better than tomorrow's RJ. Just you've got to build build build block block block and just climb. The ladder climbed verbiage letter. But that's how it so anyway. Look you need to do me a favor after. I just completely ruined this okay. You got to have the absolute best Wednesday of all time. Have the best ever Wednesday. Just have the best Wednesday could talk about it. Be about it. Have the absolute best Wednesday of all time. You know why because you deserve. We were my friends. Always go cowboys and peace out.

Jason Garrett joins Giants as new offensive coordinator

"Yeah I got a new job Jerry Jones is right he told us that Jason Garrett will be coaching in the NFL come next season and in fact he will be doing just that he's been hired by Joe judge and the New York Giants to be there all offensive coordinator we had a great day together you know you know I didn't know Joe real well been around about a couple different occasions I good conversations with them really good football conversations and now he and I know a lot of the same people I work for coach saving you work for coach David coaches always said such great things about Jo and so many other people that he's been around that I've been around said the same thing Jason Garrett on the giants in the huddle podcast and he was eager to make comments right away I'm happy for him I think as much as the Dallas Cowboys needed a fresh start and they're thrilled about their new head coach Mike McCarthy Jason Garrett needed something fresh and new as well I I tease the bunch up before that the cowboys actually made the announcement but my hash tag was free Jason Garrett let him go do something else let him go work in a different capacity although it is interesting right that he stays in the NFC east I thought the board to be really humorous why the giants though that was the question that he was that's right off the top just a first class organization and you you think about the history and tradition the New York Giants franchise in and what the merits of build the what the tissues of bill and all the great teams all the great coaches all the great players will get a part of this organization throughout its history and you know when you're playing this organization like I was four years you feel that Jason Garrett the new offense of coordinator who gets to work with none other than Daniel Jones interesting to hear what giants fans think about having chasing gear at again with inside the organization now jump to their often through coordinator spot where he was so maligned even after callin more to go over the plate calling full painting all the often whoa that lets is beyond as the the Dallas Cowboys had a really good off into season that was not the reason why they didn't end up by winning the end of season getting back to the playoffs in the stats for Jack NZ Kelly it don't tell you the whole story but their office of numbers were better than a good portion of what we saw from the yeah the rest of the NFL Jack was over four thousand yards as the Ellie and continues to do what it is that he's paid to do and yet still a lot of people pointing to Jason Garrett because the often didn't do enough well now here is going to be working with the second year quarterback in New York in Daniel Jones I want to start by and really what Joe said and in its introductory press conference you know I have an outsider's perspective on the giant a great respect for the organization great respect for the players on the team that would compete against but again it's it's coming from the outside I can't wait to get on the inside and and start to work with some of these guys and you know you mentioned Daniel Jones we thought a lot of coming out of college we weren't in the market for a quarterback it in the first round the year that he came out at the same time you go through that evaluation process and you know anybody who was around him in our organization with the cowboys just thought the world of does it sound excited I mean for sure most of the questions that he's been answering over the past few months a bit about his job status and about why the cowboys were under achieving but still he felt rejuvenated yes like he's really looking forward to this

They have another one This one not a former Dallas cowboys but a former green bay packer. Her former player under Mike McCarthy al-harran. Oh Yeah you might remember. I'll Harris it'd be watching football awhile. We'll be helping the cowboys secondary joining us. An assistant in the secondary. I know my dad likes Harris actually played his college. Football at Texas in kings will would was formerly known as Texas University. A couple couple more things to get to a number. I don't know what number we're at number four. I think Mike McCarthy has spoken to Dak Prescott appropriate number four. There was some you know. We talked about a little bit love nervousness because they had spoken the but Mike McCarthy has spoken so that's good to know next thing on the menu if you listen to the the OCHO and all of the blog on the boys this podcast that we have our own draft related. podcast talk in the draft. I've Seen Dalton Miller and there's also the great draft show from the Mothership at Dallas Cowboys Dot Com. And everybody's he's getting ready for the senior bowl and the cowboys. Coaching staff will not be there. Mike McCarthy said there's too much for them to do at the Star and Frisco so I'm not worried about this I don't I think you should be. You know the cowboys skying department. They're the ones that need to be there. And that's the most important thing so pay just to so you're aware Finally finally though final update if you WANNA call it that There is no real updates on Jason witten. Mike McCarthy apparently had a great conversation Shen Jason Wooden and the future is TVD. So who knows what the situation is going to be with Jason when as the future

Browns Make It Official

"We will start with the official news out of Cleveland Scavenge to ban skis hired by the browns. They announce officially on Monday. He's thirty seven. Spent fourteen seasons as an assistant in Minnesota but has never been a head coach at any level level his entire. NFL coaching career. As I mentioned has been with one organization the Minnesota Vikings Stansky took over play calling duties on offense late in the two thousand eighteen season. Minnesota ran the ball. Forty seven percent of the time with Danske asked the play caller. That's the second highest rate in that span trailing only the Baltimore Ravens was introduced at a press conference just a little while ago. I the foremost success starts with people and I know we'll talk a lot about culture but it is absolutely about the people and everybody knows the Harry Truman quote. It's amazing what you can accomplish when no one cares who gets. That's the credit and that's what I believe. We have in our building. We have great people. I know we're going to add to it will hire G. G. M. here in the next week can or two and we're going to add to this culture that that we're building here and we have the right people and again. I can't stress enough. How excited I am the be? Just a part of did you know to use a basketball terms to my dad can understand this. I want to be the point guard for this organization. I want to bring the ball up then I wanNA share the basketball and let so what else get an easy bucket though smiling over there. WE'RE NOT GONNA I'M NOT GONNA speak anything into existence right now I can. I promise you that we're GONNA work. I've already spoken to a few of our players already. And that's what I'm about I'm about working and I'm about putting a foundation together the other. We will be methodical about it. We will not skip. Step two two and three to get to four. We're GONNA start in the foundation and then we're going to reinforce foundation Shen said we can build upon it and when I'm talking about this I'm talking about schemes and technique will be diligent about working with our players so that they can develop into the the best versions of themselves and ultimately we're building a foundation for what we hope is a championship. Effort will have a culture of accountability. We'll have structures is in place the players will understand our rules. And what we're about and we're going to demanding and we're going to hold each player accountable. Because ultimately I know this about players they they May Not come out and ask you for that. But that's what they want. Well perhaps the tenth. TIME IS THE CHARM IN CLEVELAND. Stansky is the tenth full time head coach Wjr. The browns have hired since returning to the League in one thousand nine hundred ninety nine that is the most in the league over that span of the previous nine. None have posted a winning record. Heard and not a single one has lasted more than four seasons continuity and consistency has been a real issue in Cleveland. Victor certainly something they'd like to you see changes to fanciest step in the right direction. In your opinion will I believe he is and I think that consistency where it is important. And right because you put up that list of all the coaches and the coaches that they've they've pretty much funneled through throughout the years can you provide that level of stability that they've been seeking for almost a year in and year out. Can you provide that for their now. The thing I do like about Stansky a fan ski is that he has experience with creating plays for two star receivers and I think that's something that's going to have to translate over to the Cleveland. Browns obviously with Odell Beckham junior junior and Jarvis Landry and having that experience I'm sure enticed of that for an office inside bring him in and understanding that they got to get the best out of these players in the best out of all their play makers obviously nick included In the backfield now is he going to be a leader of men and he is he going to be able to handle. The Eagles and the different personalities is that are in that locker room. Desk the biggest question that still remains to be seen. It's defense gas interviewed with the browns. Before in fact it's believed that he was the first source of politics but Desta several seasons ago and and it didn't work out. Matt you spent time with him as part of that Minnesota Vikings Organization. What can you tell us right? He he was a young quarterback coach at the time. And so when I got there was actually a little bit older than he was which is an interesting dynamic but at the same time. He's been all around that building. You know he's an administrative assistant and when he started there then. He was a quarterback coach. He's I've been with the running backs he's been with the wide receivers so he's been in all the different elements of the offensive side of the ball. He's seen the ups and downs. He's seen how free agency can impact so he's got a great feel feel. He's a great leader. He's got a presence about himself in the other thing that I think that the Cleveland browns are probably drawn to is the simple fact that this is a very quarterback friendly offensive structure that he's presented presented in for a guy like Baker Mayfield that had had his struggles last year. And maybe some confidence issues. Maybe not though. Let's see the press conference the same time. It's a quarterback friendly. There's a lot of play action. There's a lot of movement of the pockets. A Lotta easy throws to be made screen. And then there's like you said that balance forty seven percent percent of the time the run the ball. There's great balance in that offensive structure in for a young quarterback and going into his third year after some struggles. I think this is a great fit for that organization Asian and going back to when they actually made this higher People in Cleveland were telling me that it was actually his run game because we see what he was able to do with Dowling Cook and how he was able to make become a good player to really a great one and he's a central part of that offense that we now see in Minnesota and that was a big part of it but in terms of now Cleveland going forward looking for GM the way it was explained to me is they really want these to head coach and gm to work as one. This is why they moved on. From John Dorsey Percy and Freddie Kitchens. They didn't feel like this was working together. So they're looking for someone who has the same vision and the analytics department obviously is of of crucial part of Cleveland. And what they're looking for a head coach and I think that's why Stefanski became that lead candidate because he's accepting of it. He wants to be part of that and You know I think I saw some reports out there about how Cleveland is demanding that their head coach presents the game plan to ownership and really the way it was explained to me. It's not so much that they want to see the game plan. They just want everyone to be in sync to go over to make sure they're all on the same page headed into the game. Well you can't blame him and and that is something that clearly was not the case. I think you make a great point. It's poor in that somebody come in and be able to work and mold Baker Mayfield but also be able to be the CEO and run this whole organization and have everybody else be accountable. I think Freddie Kitchens might have had one of those two things that went by the wayside outside the quarterback with the hiring in Cleveland. What it does mean? Is that every chair on the head. Coaching carousel is now accounted for. The browns were the fifth and final team to hire a new head coach in the off season. Three of the hires tires Stefanski as we just discussed Joe Judge with the giants and Matt Raw and Carolina our first time. NFL head coaches the other two quite the contrary contrary Mike McCarthy in Dallas Ron Rivera in Washington they will get a second chance or in some cases third or fourth various established. NFL head coaches of of all the five. Who Intrigues you? The most in their new spot intrigues me is Matt Rule. I WanNa see what really transpires here right. He seven years sixty million dollar contract. That's a big commitment big commitment. I mean we might need to think about going into coach. That's it has everything else that they're also saying that they're making a commitment to Cam Newton with the type of style and the offensive structured. That they've set up McCaffrey's there I mean they've got the pieces of the puzzle there now. It's interesting to see how that that offensive structure from college translates to the NFL. which is I mean? There's been guys like chip Kelly in the past right John Harbaugh's price guy. That's been the most successful but that was more of a pro style offense with the most the most recent Kingsbury in Arizona so cliff Kingsbury. Excuse me it's been a mixed bag. There's no question. Let me ask you this just circling back to something you said by hiring Matt rule it you believe this means a commitment to Cam Newton. Can you explain why why I just think that The Baylor and watching their offense of structure and the RPO that takes place that's run pass options and all the different things that they're well versed in and that the Baylor offense has been historically historically very successful with in terms of that offense of structure I just think that that Fits Cam Newton's game very well and so I believe that that's a statement saying look. We wanted to bring somebody in here that you're going to be comfortable in this type of offense of structure and go out and be able to put yourself in a position to have success extent to intrigue you for me. Is Joe Judge my beloved giants. I think well I just think because going into it. Once I saw the Vacancy Happen at the head coaching position I was all right. The giants are GonNa come in here and get either like a Ron Rivera type or even McCarthy and get a guy that will come in and commanding presence. Once he walks into the building and I think with the hiring of Joe Judge just left me like okay I. It felt like the same cycle almost felt like coach mcadoo a couple years ago when you give a guy a shot and bring him in if he can transcend The coaching position or the year. After that when you bring in Pat Shurmur and you try to bring take a chance on another guy. Felt like we're taking another chance on another guy but granted. I must say I loved after the press conference I loved his mannerisms I love. He literally embodied what the New York Giants Football Organization is all about when he stepped up there on that podium Liam so I say that with a grain of salt because I love the press conference and I think he's going to bring something different than the other two coaches did in the past. But I still left me scratching my head in terms of who was out there here in the type of guys that could've came in that building and commanded a present these guys by the way Matt Rule and Gioja Geno. It's not about winning the press coverage but they did rule who was must see TV. I was just watching. He's missing time with the giants. Who so I knew all about? He's got does I think you know obviously recruiting such a big part of being a head coach in college. You don't mean to recruit You know when you're in the NFL. Which is why? I'm an agreement with you. I think that is the most enticing match COPA or at least the situation of the coaches just because you just look at history and making that jump from college the NFL. It's not easy and there just hasn't been a high success rate there. I think obviously he spent a little time with a giant. So it's not like he's

"He wasn't able to practice. It's really starting in training camp. And then there was a few weeks there where he didn't practice still Friday and even on Friday was just managing doing things so in fairness to him. I don't think he was at his highest and best and as a coach. You wrestle wrestle with is he toughing it out and playing when some guys wouldn't or could he just shrug this off off like it's nothing you don't really know I was once told. It's very easy to be tough with another man's body. And you Never WanNa make those determinations I player because that's how you lose guy he's genuinely fighting through things and can't give any more than he is. What right do you have to call? Call him out on that so I know I'm not really answering it but the answer is I don't have a concrete answer. I think it's a combination of a lot of different things things. And then when you're not at your best physically. Does your confidence wane a little bit. Are you that dog that you were against green being bay when you're feeling good so that's my answer. Yeah Yeah and and just to clarify when you say. He wasn't in shape. You're not saying. Are you saying that when he came to training camp he wasn't really in shape or you just saying he wasn't like peak physically clearly. Oh No let me clarify because things always taken out of context. That's all I'm asking. Yeah no he came into training any camping. Great shape okay. I'm saying when we got. What do we get a week and a half in? And he got hurt. Yes he'll so he's really out for for three and a half four weeks and if you can't run for three and a half four weeks you're always playing catch up in your fitness so instead of being able to go ten plays hard. Maybe it's down to four plays hard and then you get these nagging things as the season goes so to clarify clarify so things don't get mis-read. He came into can't be in great shape nature of all his injuries lesson. That and he battled at all season. Yeah exactly Then it'll be interesting. They'll have decisions to make moving forward. You were a big part of the third down for people that don't know that Sanjay Lau cowboys wide receivers coach joining us. He'll move on to his next Gig as the cowboys. Oh boys have regime change. You did the third down offense and You know the passing game all that and you had a huge role in that in in can you put up some really good numbers on third down. Let me ask you this though you got a brand new play. Caller he'd never done it before you've been around a you had some people you're Garrett has been a play caller in the NFL before but you were breaking in a young guy. How is that like the the operation to that? I'm not even talking about during the week when you get in a game and you got a brand new play caller. What is that? What is that like did it? Did it work fine mine was that was it difficult. What was that? What was that experience like? That's a good question because when we went into the first game game I was like I wonder how this is going to go because I've been with a lot. I've been with eleven coordinators thirteen years and some very big names very established guys and some of them had great feel for calling games and some of them strengths were more on the designing plays and the play calling was not as refined or as fluid as some. Alright yeah we. We've we've hit this thing from a lot of different areas just final thoughts as You look at some of your notes. You Big McCarthy interviewed today that we've already heard talked to Steven. We got a new regime. Interesting stuff in the more in the works. Amari Cooper Free Agent Dak Prescott Free Agent Byron Jones Free Agent Win Robber quit guy who was as you know he. He obviously led them in sack late and vander h uncertain. Jason witten uncertain. Sean Lee uncertain lot of uncertainty. And you know it's interesting interesting and you kind of hinted at this when we were talking before we started the show. And that is that the higher the coaching change here with Mike McCarthy that creates new leverage for Dak Prescott Dak Prescott has more leverage now because he needs to be out here leading transition to a new offense however whatever form that takes because Mike said as I mentioned in the interview that he wants to build on what they had. So That's reassuring. I'm sure short to the players and Jerry and the coaches but he needs Dak Prescott here from day one more than ever more than if they brought Garrett back. They need their quarterback quarterback to be a part of their entire off-season and their off season starts earlier now that they made a coaching change. Otherwise would so the front office needs to get this deal done with that Prescott. I think April six is the number I saw mentioned today as when they can start two weeks earlier than most teams because they have a new regime and that is interesting and then Stephen saying on one of his various radio shows today on the flagship station of the cowboys choice. Something along the lines of before the season we got really really really close to getting a deal. Done he recognize is. We need a quarterback. We have to get this done. So so the thing is is so they need to get Dak Prescott done for the reasons we just mentioned. But DAX incentive is lacking his leverages. I want to wait and see what happens with the Shawn Watson and Patrick Mahomes who can get new contracts for the first time as NFL players and they were already top ten first round picks. No I guess Sean was a little bit later. Patrick Mahomes was ten Shawn Watson was thirteen I think is right so Dak Prescott holds all the cards now in this deal yet. He had his best season ever ever. He almost broke the franchise passing record Capability York. Whoever thought the Dak Prescott was going to break passing record set by Tony Romo honestly? And I've Ben is big data guy. I never thought he would challenge. Those sorts of records is a pocket passer as a thrower in the NFL credit to him and his coaching and coaches. But he's got all the leverage now. He had his best season ever. They made a coaching change. They need him to be involved and they probably should sign him before. MAHOMES and Watson sign their new contracts. We've never seen a quarterback with this much leverage coming off an eight eight season then rick all right. Here's my final. I think we're to the final stage. Yes here's my final. Wrap up on this higher including Mike McCarthy there have been thirty two different head coaches to win a super bowl. Thirteen of those coaches went on to take a different job with a different team. Only bill parcells and Mike Holmgren went to the super bowl again with their second teams none. The thirty two coaches has ever won a super bowl with the second team. That's the challenge for Mike McCarthy. That sounds like something you would have liked brought up to Mike but I did ask him. You heard the interview I asked him about. What makes Tim? Thank you can be the first one to do with this. Yeah true the first time to breakthrough Ed my final thought. Is that great work by you. I think that McCarthy is a safe choice is an exciting choice. Maybe nine is he more accomplished ahead coast and then then was when he was hired law Veasley more accomplished than wait Phillips. Absolutely more accomplishing Campo. You Bet Barry Switzer. That's a hard one because Berry one of the greatest college coach of all he didn't do in the NFL. Mike McCarthy's done it in the NFL with you. But I mean I don't WanNa down play that because what Barry Switzer did in college. Football's balls one of the greatest coaching jobs history. But it's just interesting. Jimmy had won a national title at Miami when he gets hired. What I've done television television doesn't make me a great podcast or even though I am it just didn't make let's tip waitresses? I yeah yeah tip your your your your waitresses. We want to thank the neighborhood services restaurant. There's a few of them in the Dallas Fort Worth area. He's had a very busy day and he's just a man who's overcome illness and all sorts of other things personal issues. He said a lot of the man's overcome a lot of adversity in life and he's just echo of a job big weekend. NFL It's going to be fun and we're glad to kind of bring you all this. If you find anywhere any more insight on Mike McCarthy era you let us know. "Pleased with the everybody be real pleased with the staff that he puts together. I think it's GonNa be a great group coaches still work to do and certainly Michael Make great choices there. And he's ready to share the directions we're headed and I know he'll be in front of you guys to to share that all right here. Is that in this redeployment game. You WanNa play this do that now that now. We actually have a fired member of this coaching staff to possibly hear from a someone who is sick packing that I was able to track down. Had A little interview. You with all my my radio GIG and so we'll get to that Sunday Lau cowboys. Wide Receivers coach will get you some interesting information on. He weighed waiting. On a Mario Cooper. Michael Gallup Kellen Moore Jason Garrett a lot of interesting things there. Let's play the game if you will in so I can play this properly. Will you go ahead. and run over the eight coaches that That Jerry Okay I got Jimmy. Let me see if I can deal berry. Hold on Jimmy. Bury Chan correct. Okay Campo Campo okay eight parcels okay in then obviously Wade Phillips Jason Aaron Jason Garrett it in now now McCarthy McCarthy okay have I missed anything now okay these are the Jerry Jones and this is going to be a little game. What we call Ed's GonNa read the quote? Ed Went Back and looked at all these news conferences. Jerry at Don awed things he said about specific head coaches. Ed's GonNa say the quote and I'm going to guess who he said it about and the basis of this is to demonstrate the level of hyperbole that typically takes place when Jerry Jones has one of these press conferences introducing his new head coach. All right all right. So let's do the all the wonderful things he said about Mike McCarthy's we won't even include him all right on the other coaches he hired. Here's here's the first one. He is qualified in capable. We have the right man. He's highly innovative creative mind. Here's a big kid on the offensive side of the ball. He's a proven play caller. And someone who has done it in big games okay. I can't eliminate some people people there immediately in. I'm going to go. ooh Okay. This has to be either Garrett Org gaily okay this is Jason Garrett or Gaily. I'm going to go with Chan do you are correct. Means you're going to get to. You're right because Jimmy Johnson so famous that we all know that that one next to eliminate the mystery what this coach will bring us. He says the name will be worth more than if we had five. First round draft choices and five heisman trophy winners history will show that one of the finest things that ever or happen to the cowboys is Jimmy. Johns Jimmy Johnson. But that was a great moment. Jerry's that that that we talked about. That's that was jerry very giving someone like credit norm ass- value of the head coach. Jerry would devalue on. Let's see what's next okay. This person was the most qualified coach in our sport that you could draw up if you were drawing your own Rembrandt. I don't I mean this one guys my friends. So I'm going to eliminate Kampe it's not nice eliminate Garrett I'm GonNa Eliminate Wade and I'm going to eliminate that is not that does not sound like Switzer. I'M GONNA go with Bill. Parsons you're correct three. This is amazing. You're going to get the pay this this bill. All right the guy next to me has my personal and total trust and commitment and the guy next to me is your coach of the Dallas Cowboys. And he just happens to be as talented and happens to be a special for this situation at this time for the Dallas cowboys which which is kind of Jerry Awkward Sentence. That doesn't really make sense but at this time over going to get one of these wrong I know Home Okay I'm GonNa say he for this time. Oh Gosh okay so this could be Switzer Campo or Garrett on it's very tepid type start like the Rim Brent type thing like parcels so I'm going to go with Campo Switzer got one wrong all right all right all right. Are you ready for this one. Yeah we needed to get it right in my mind. We got it right. This team is best served now next next week next month next season by an NFL head coach with experience. That knows the game. The candidly knows personnel. Playing the game right now. That doesn't help me. Because the generic too many crisis generic nature of Campo or Garrett. Oh wait wait Phillip. I haven't said wage on you. Got Three possibilities either Campo Phillips Garrett see it one more time. I'm that one we needed to get it right in my mind. We got it right. This team is best served now next week next month next season by an NFL head coach with experienced. That knows the game that candidly knows the personnel playing the game way you are correct sir. All right let's see if you can tell the difference between Kampala anyway. I'm trying to decide which is one of these. The overwhelming majority of input. I have received a very common thread right and the theme was very simple. This is perfect. You have a man on your staff who is very smart extremely talented and ready to be at go to the NFL. Both of those guys were already on the staff. Correct very nice. Though hint there so that doesn't really the overwhelming majority of input. I received had a very common thread and the theme was very simple. That it didn't ring up Bill parcells era. So I'm going to go with Campo you are correct only one Nisa Handy. So here's what he said about. I do believe this is Jason Garrett at his press conference I do believe he has the temperament he. He has the disposition to effect a culture change. I think that is important. We all know. Men's styles are different. His style is one that I feel could be very effective. Okay okay all right. So you're right. Jerry was wrong and for that he gets ten years of non winning replay off. If we three playoff appearances in a full decade Jason Garrett coach all but eight games of the last decade which goes down as as the decade in which the cowboys won the fewest playoff berths in their history with three. Were you the person you always come up with. The help of. It was not a fun game by the way I love it. I love it. I think our people loved it yes. PF stats and Info and you come up with some really good stats. What was the one? Where like the the during no during the McCarthy era in Green Bay in the Garrett era in Dallas the the plus minus points it was the plus minus takeaways? These does that. Does that ring a bell with you go but I heard a million things recently with jumped in my hair when I think is interesting. Okay Compares McCarthy's final two years in Green Bay and Garrett's last two years here one of Mike McCarthy's undoing 's in Green Bay was his inability to be hey good teams over his final two seasons with the packers Green Bay went three fourteen in one against teams. That finished the season with a winning record three fourteen in one want Jason Garrett in such games. The last two years of his cowboys coaching career went five and ten a little bit better including two in six is this year but in games in his career against teams with a winning record Jason Garrett went twenty five and forty four so he mostly beat up on bad teams or mediocre teams frequently win or not with regularity win against is the better teams in the successful type team. Now that's an interesting one. I'm going to now reach way back into my head and I apologize to anyone. I'm not crediting here but this one was one. I Love Ed I think you'll like to the football. What what Garrett talk about constantly the value of the football protecting the football takeaways? When he first got the job he was? That was a huge thing. I heard one the other day that you'll like it was during Mike McCarthy's time in Green Bay on a plus a plus a plus minus type situation and takeaways was a plus Ninety three okay Jason. Garrett was a minus five. I mean you look like why did this guy have success. Why what about this guy? Why did he not breakthrough that necessarily an enormous number in like the NFL so anyway? That was a number that Just grabbed my attention the other day that I happen to come across. Okay we get some final comments. Ed You and I need to make. Let's do one more thing. I want to hear from a former cowboys. Wide receivers coach. He got fired about the three or four days ago and on the day after he got fired officially he was hoping in fact he hoped that the new regime might keep him on. He is the wide receivers coach for the cowboys. Sunday allow the day after he got fired. He said Yeah. I'll come on with you and I thought that was very kind and generous. "To him and after hearing hit him his news conference. And what are your I'm sorta very funny to me that Jerry. For for instance said the other day that he had this quote about. If you give other people credit you know it will it will. It'll make view the king or something you you'll remember it better than I do but basically if you'll just give other people in credit that that's that's that's what I'll make you great and that's not not really what Jerry's been known for over the years Eddie. You have come up with. I don't know if you want to call it this three alive that Jerry told it is opening news conference but but let's call them discrepancies. We've both been longtime Jerry Jones observers. Were there are a few things you heard in the opening news conference. That gave you pause about Jerry. While my first impression of the news this conference is this seem like one of the few times. The Jerry held a press conference to introduce the next cowboys coach and he seemed genuinely the impressed by the man sitting next door but hasn't always been the case and in a few minutes. We're GONNA play a great game because I've gone back and looked at the press conferences of all eight Jerry. Jones hires as head coach. And I pulled off a quo. He used to describe the man in the circumstance. And I'm going to see if you can put one statement with the right coach. We're GONNA play that okay so so you ask me a question. I'm answering so jerry. said he had a sign on his desk. That said quote. What if you're willing to give credit to others you'll conquer the world? My first observation is why did you. Why is that not still there that still be in a guiding principle and my second thought is if he's being truthful about that then? Why isn't it Jerry satisfied with the credit? That owners Robert Kraft seem to accept that are bestowed upon successful owner Super Bowl Championship. Owners in my second point is if that's true. Then why is Jimmy. Johnson the ring of honor. Those are my two questions about that. Then he got kind of emotional and he seemed to take offense about the general description and perception that that Jerry is operates on Tottenham Asli to the detriment of his head. Coach is when it comes to personnel. The Jerry uses his general manager club too liberally and he said some how this this thing has turned me into something perceived that I don't like about it because it is a real reveal it is a we deal. Well well I think during the bill parcells air that terrel owens was a weed decision. And I don't think the jury during the decade of Jason Garrett that Greg Hardy and Randy Gregory were we decisions. I think those Jerry decision so that's not always true even and then the final the thing is and I think everybody knows that he took exception to this. Jerry said he wanted Mike McCarthy to pick his own staff and allow him to do that that he's always believed believed that and then he seemed to stare down the skeptics in the audience. And I would say this. I don't think we built higher Jason Garrett Jerod as offensive coordinator and eventually paid him more than the head coach himself. I believe that was Jerry so I think in those three ways as yeah. Jerry was not entirely truthful. There may have been some elements of the truth and what he said but there are certainly early examples of that not being the way think. Yeah Yeah I think you're right. I think in every statement Jerry makes there might be an element of truth. It's not always. It's not always the full truth that it's really interesting. Some of the stuff you just said about an especially especially that final statement we. We've heard Jerry over the years. Make any statement about coaches. I thought your Jimmy thing is interesting because if you're going to literally say I used to have a saying that I looked at in my office where you give other others credit I eh I like I like the way he phrased it. It's a good quote. I don't really know exactly have we have. You looked by the way to see where that came from but anyway wherever it came from initially initially. You're totally right. I mean if Jerry really wanted to do a full circle close the loop you. He's in the hall of fame now if he if he felt truly secure as as as we've found out billionaires even billionaires feel insecure at times he would have gotten Jimmy thing dawn I mean he got freaking Gil Brandt in. I mean that that came from a previous regime. He fired the brand now. That's nice so whether it's in the hall of fame or not is a different issue. Terry controls the ring of honor. I see you in Stephen and I kind of gave you that. Look you didn't see me really but I kinda was like and then somebody he tried to kind of come in on our deal and I thought is Ed. Mike McCarthy was the guy before Jerry decided that Mike McCarthy was the guy so yeah I thought hey. Let's get Stevens funny. Hey come this whole thing like you did that. "Met with him yet? which I think is probably a little disconcerting to them Kelly Moore is going to stay as offensive coordinator but my sense is? He's not going to call the plays at something. Mike McCarthy always done he certainly certainly not going to turn his offense over to somebody who called plays once but did finish number one in the NFL based on yards but doesn't really know his system like he knew the one that was implemented or Scotland. Eoghan but I think he regards as a young promising very bright guy who has a lot to offer especially to the veteran coaching staff. I think he's assembling whether John Kitten remains I don't know I would probably lean lean toward keeping him but I'm not sure that there's a place for him on the coaching staff. So that'll be an interesting thing for him. Determine but one of the most interesting things he said you'll the interview was. I asked him about the transition that the office of players are going to have to make to a new system like all of these players have played in one system. They've all been in here with the exception. I guess a whitten Jason Witten who I've we don't know if he's returning or not None of them have played in any other system Jason Garrett Offensive System as modified by Scotland and Dan and last year killing more but he said you'll hear this IM- explain it but he said he wants to build on what they have. He doesn't want to just come in and junk what they have have and start all over with his system he wants to take what they have and merge with it with what he wants to do and build something off that that going forward so not a complete tear down start over project and he also talked about Dak Prescott. I know he said that he's he thinks he's capable. I love winning a super bowl as quarterback. He thinks he can potentially be a great quarterback. If I were him I would not try to take too much I to what they have after coming off eight I would. I would come in you. Take the talent. That's here but I would not feel bad at all about bringing being a lot of what he plans to bring. which is in? It's GonNa be fascinating and we were asking about the other day. We even talk Stephen about it. You'll hear our interview with Stephen Stephen Jones here in a little bit. How do you meld the West Coast offense with what they've been doing which was the old gym peasy a little? I mean it is a different thing. How do you meld those two or do you do a whole new thing okay? This is our chance now to hear Ed Order First and foremost of the Doomsday podcast but also of ESPN but he was doing this for ESPN. And here is is exclusive sitdown with Mike McCarthy The new head coach of the Dallas Cowboys and you talk talk about walking past the statues curly. Lambeau and Vince Lombardi. Now you're gonNA coach in a building with the statute Tom Landry outside. What kind of pressure comes with that? Well I think it's not the obvious you know this is history. Tradition is is very important. Both franchises and and I think it's something you you have to feel the responsibility and you're the steward of the psychotic franchise and with that It's just more of a focus in and make sure the organization is always represented the right way during the year. The you're fired and not coaching the packers. You stayed in Green Bay and you watch them. Acquire free agents. Who made a big difference and they went thirteen in in three? Your your way. How hard was that for you? Given the circumstances I think it's really the reality of being touched. Where where the team was that point in those decisions to to bring a free agents? He just didn't happen that day. I mean those talks that went on for quite some time so I mean I I think you just have to give him a lot of credit for. It made the moves that they needed to do. You need to make in this off on thirty. Two coaches have won super superbowls. None has won a super bowl two different teams. What makes you think this can happen here for you? I think in place and you know how you bring them together and how you're able to keep the consistency of of winning you know consistently the put yourself in position shouldn't make sure your team's ready for that playoff run so there's so much that goes into winning the super bowl and that's really where my time and energy is placed. It's just staying on top all the components honest and really bringing everybody together to make sure we stay on sale and of course the cowboys hired you. Because you're an experienced coach. You approve in winter. They think they have a team. They can go deep in the playoffs. What are your expectations? I mean really my expectations and make sure we stay focused on building the best ninety man roster we possibly can to make sure are are training camp in the off season programmers competitive as possible and there were sitting here You know at the end at the end making a bunch of hard decisions decisions for the fifty three hundred sixty three. That's really my expectations. Because there's a process that is that we have to build to get point and and then with that of start playing the real game saw I I get the rhetoric. I think it's I understand it enough. Fortunate been part of it for a long time but I've always I think it's important to keep the time and energy and focus on the process in Green Bay. There was no single owner. The president of the General Manager were pretty reclusive publicly. And so you were the dominant voice organization here. We're kind of at the other end of the spectrum. Jerry's a big presence. How different do you think that'll be for you? I'm just on a couple of days Adalah but it's it's breath the fresh air and Just really Jerry. And his whole family Just the energy that they bring to the to the workplace. Every day it's been awesome. Steven said He he he anticipates you having much influence in personnel as bill parcells and Jerry. Talk to the press conference that we decisions is that reassuring to you. Oh absolutely I think it was definitely part of the interview process and Just in a little town I've been hearing. I mean I've had oh shoot six seven seven eight conversations that they will and and you know todd's also been part of that and and Steven so it's Personnels and everyday everyday thing so I mean you have to approach that way. It's it goes on twenty four seven twelve months time so that's the focus in and I'm joined that part of it Most of the players here have only played in one system on offense. How big a transition is it going to beef? That's a great question. I I think that's really what the interview process will bring light to. And you know as we as we go through the interviews and the direction moving forward because I do want to try to build off all the positive things already in place here so I I don't WanNa throw throw out the baby with the bathwater Among the take that approach I don't I don't think that's right approach so I do want to make sure if we can take advantage of. What's in place and going off? You coach Joe Montana or maybe he coached you and your career. Joko smells quality control so coach to i. I love the credit. But it's not really I work with Joe Montana Brett right farve and Aaron Rodgers. What from those experiences to you do bring benefit Dak Prescott? Well it it just it just shows you three different body types. You know Aaron bread very similar and and really some of the things I've done from from fundamental standpoint. Maybe we can tweak in the plot to to his game but I think the mental approach From what I'm told that is is right there so I'm really looking forward to working with. That's all right there. It was in EH. You did a good job of kind of getting in getting out you you stay to your five minutes and I thought you got some interesting things out and unlike others in the TV v community. You didn't need to hear yourself talk for a long time. You get your questions in there the TV folks are known for some really long questions so some radio people that I know have been known for some someone questions but good stuff. Come in. Mike McCarthy always done he certainly certainly not going to turn his offense over to somebody who called plays once but did finish number one in the NFL based on yards but doesn't really know his system like he knew the one that was implemented or Scotland. "Taking the time to join us. Really Cool Dude I could talk about anything honestly Talking about the. NFL is great. And I really. I appreciate his attention to detail as to things like you know what Mike McCarthy does press conferences. I love talking about tiny things like that and so his insight was very much appreciated. Appreciated you can and you absolutely should follow him on twitter at Zach Rapport. That's Z.. A. C. H.. Zack Morris writes about it that way I think maybe not But a CHR. Apo Rt Zack's a good dude. And I thought that was really great invaluable insight in terms of what the cowboys and all of us should be expecting from Mike Mike McCarthy but going to be fine going to be very fun and very interesting to see how the next next days unfold. We'll see at the time of this recording. I'm recording this about nine pm on Monday night. The Dallas cowboys themselves have not confirmed the hiring of Mike McCarthy. They're the only people in the world that haven't confirm that in fact if you watch the big podcast that the Dallas cowboys dot com team did on Monday. They had to be very careful and say Fox is reported. Whatever so we'll see you know when the cowboys themselves ultimately confirmed the news and then they'll obviously be a press conference coming at some point later in the week as the cowboys announced their new head coach but It's GonNa be fun I'm pumped. I'm excited I'm intrigued. And we have a lot more questions to ask on a lot more insight to glean where you have some more guests coming up. We should have the two episodes dropping tomorrow throughout the day. We'll have one probably about three thirty four. PM Central Time going to be talking to Kevin Coal from PF. Kevin is great. wrote an awesome awesome article kind of getting really in depth into Mike McCarthy and his time in Green Bay and so we're going to talk to him about it over pro football focus. And then we're supposed to were said to have have y'all who's Charles Robinson on the pod. Probably I know. I said that we'll have two episodes drop on Tuesday. I don't know I said that the Kevin cold episode will drop on in the middle or in the middle of Tuesday and we'll drop the Charles Robinson episode on Wednesday morning. Maybe you know maybe twenty four hours from one. We're dropping this when so late Tuesday night you you know early Wednesday kind of like we're doing against a very busy time and got a lot of requests. A lot of tweets lot of messages. Lots of Instagram deums wondering you know saying. Hey we're gonNA keep this schedule going and we'll be talking every day throughout the off season. Hey we're not going anywhere. I am blogging. "To be honest only one super bowl is a construction of media and fans and I think. That's a a great point because Mike McCarthy is super bowl winner in. That's that goes a long way. So many people you know had talked about now. How the cowboys? I'm talking now looking at a coaching search. How the cowboys? We're going to go and and sort of try to find another bill parcells. That was going to try to reset things. And Mike McCarthy is the first superbowl double winner to be the team's head coach since bill parcells is not Wade Phillips had not won a super bowl as a head coach certainly at the time the cowhide him obviously had the great two thousand fifteen broncos where he it was a demon according to four but Jason Garrett wasn't super bowl winning head coach and so. I'm not saying that Mike McCarthy is bill parcells by means. Don't look at it that way but you know Jerry Jones went out and he got somebody of that variety because there isn't a bill parcells we'll bill parcells doesn't exist in twenty twenty but he went out and he got a guy that checks a lot of boxes as a lot of. NFL Experience has won a super bowl. Knows how to make quarterbacks play highly highly highly elite level. And believe me. I am not trying to say that Mike McCarthy is responsible for Aaron Rodgers and other talented. Aaron has an success that he's had in the hall of fame career in Rogers put together. But I'm also not saying that Aaron Rodgers did all of that completely of his own accord I mean. I think we have to acknowledge that Mike McCarthy McCarthy certainly had a hand in that and really developed him and I think that you also should look at the fact that we all should look at the fact that there's conviction in Mike McCarthy think back back to what he had to handle in two thousand and eight when Brett farve wanted to return from retirement after they lost the NFC championship game in two thousand seven. The New York giants eventual Super Bowl. Champion in New York giants Mike McCarthy and the packers committed Aaron Rodgers in two thousand and they said okay. You're the guy this is year. What four you Rifai? Seven eight and think about that you know that. That was the guy that Mike McCarthy didn't draft Mike McCarthy was on the San Francisco Forty niners staff that drafted Alex Smith Number one overall in two thousand and five but McCarthy and the packers committed Aaron Rodgers Brett Brett farve comes out of retirement in two thousand eight and they say you know what Brett you can come back you can compete. But we're not. We're not just going to hand this job. I mean Mike. McCarthy is a man of serious conviction conviction and he was right I mean he was ready to go and Rogers. We all know that obviously now twelve years later but that says to me a lot about him and who he is and I realized that a lot of details are going to be changing and moving in sort of in a fluid state all throughout the week and really for a couple of months. Because that's kind of how these things work so please consider. That don't know tweet me like Oh you said this and this is changed. Obviously look. We're having this conversation Monday about ten thirty in the morning and as of now. NFL networks. Tom Perez Sarah reported that one of the names to watch to be Mike McCarthy's defensive coordinator in Dallas. Is Mike Nolan. Mike Nolan was the head coach of the San Francisco. Forty niners Mike. McCarthy was there as the offensive coordinator Ark Nolan currently has been the New Orleans Saints. linebackers coach is coordinated. A lot of defenses across the entire National Football League is Father Coach for the cowboys was on multiple staffs assist front of the show. Bobby Bell pointed out and so there's a lot of history there. Michael Elkin from the Dallas Morning News noted that Mike Nolan's family and his mother live in the Dallas area. So there's there's a lot there that makes sense and it will be fascinating to see who the defensive coordinator ultimately if it's Mike Nolan. He's got familiarity and three four four three so hard to know exactly what that would yield. But I'm I'm excited about that but the I think biggest thing right. We're checking some things off already in the offseason cowboys got a new head coach. Check at some point is gonNA be checkoff Dak Prescott contract check off Marcus contract. We'll get to all that but one of the next big check so we have to get his. Who is this team's offensive corner going to because ultimately I think the defense quantity you have to trust Mike McCarthy and if it is Mike Nolan that'll be interesting but if Mike McCarthy keeps killing more around that will be interesting and you know? I think there's a lot of merit to Kellen Moore Think Anthony Mike McCarthy should certainly consider him and Junkin in Jane Slater have reported that he had already fielded a call to a potential running backs coach. which could mean to carry Braun is Is Out out but while we all agree there Kellen Moore showed a lot of signs of promise. Optimally this should be Mike McCarthy. Say and I think that that's the most important element here. Mike McCarthy has to have the absolute final say on. Who is offense? Coordinator who's quarterbacks coaches who is defensive coordinators who whatever is because. It's his staff. He's the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. And if you're Jerry Jones and you truly really actually honestly earnestly are committed to this being different. Have to Mike McCarthy do his thing you can totally recommend a lot of guys and there are guys worth recommending. We noted that. But this has to be Mike McCarthy's decision and I think it is worth noting in the big pro football talk peace we wrote about this serwer writing about it currently so it should be up to blog dot com at some point on Monday. Mike McCarthy talked about you know talk to Peter King about how you watched film and everything and he sat at a play. The cowboys ran that was called in run and executed by Kellen Moore. And so I think you know Mike McCarthy's clearly a fan of kill more Mike McCarthy clearly an embrace her of analytics in the world of Phoenix and Kelly. Moore's talked about how he's a millennial and he certainly Not opposed to the idea of analytics and so there's a lot of common common ground and I think it's definitely possible. Mike McCarthy could keep killing moron as offensive coordinator but again the decision should ultimately be his. If he wants to bring somebody else in for the record and Mike McCarthy is going to have a huge say in this offense overarm. He is an offense coach. And so I think mostly though you know we talked about this a lot and we have been talking about and while the new cowboys head coach had to be somebody that was going to get the most out of Dak Prescott that had to be the number one criteria because the most most important person in the entire Dallas Cowboys Organization is Dak Prescott. Why because this is the game of football and he played quarterback for your team and he does visited a very high level and Dak Prescott is really if DAX not operating at a high level? You're not gonNA have a chance. I mean you can have a roster loaded with talent and if your quarterback doesn't play well in particular moment you're going to lose I mean look at the New Orleans saints in the wildcard round. Drew brees is a hall of fame quarterback the best day against Minnesota Kirk cousins had one of his better ones kirk cousins that some of his best to those of his career. As you point out on the call. And as a result Minnesota's team advancing to take on Frisco wa New Orleans packing up potentially going to lose their linebackers. Coach should be the difference of the cowboys. quarterback play is. Obviously you know priorities number one through five thousand after that. You sort of figure things out but McCarthy has been able to get the most out obviously Brett farve and Aaron Rodgers and of Flynn and it says it says a lot about Mike McCarthy. He was able to do that says a lot about those players as well But for now the Dallas cowboys have a new head coach..

Mike McCarthy McCarthy Anthony Mike McCarthy Mike Nolan cowboys Aaron Rodgers McCarthy Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator bill parcells National Football League Kellen Moore Brett farve Jerry Jones Dallas packers San Francisco Dak Prescott

"He's kind of an offbeat player and off rhythm player. He's more like a Jasbi. He's a second reaction player and very often. There are throws that are there within the rhythm of the play and the timing of the play and he doesn't make those throws. Now, he might move around. And then make another throw, but there are times against really good defenses. Where that doesn't work. It's tough to be consistent that way against higher level defenses. And what is Aaron struggled with his career against better teams and good defenses. Because as Mike McCarthy, a classy guy said in code, he's challenging and the difficulty is connecting with other players. And the reality is it's coordinating eleven men on every play for years and years. Many of the American media members comp-. Pared Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady. And I always said they have nothing in common. They have nothing in common. They're not even the same personality. I mean errands fought with his family they've called him out publicly Brady all about family. Aaron Rodgers is Big Ben. Difficult. If Mike Tomlin ever got fired that this is what Mike Tomlin would say he's challenging and the difficulty with a hall of fame quarterback is connecting with other players on offense Antonio Brown, levian bell. It's coordinating eleven men on every play Aaron is Big Ben and Mike McCarthy's too classy. But that is code back into the compliment. "And I'm begging you to stop begging you. Packers are not mathematically eliminated made the win the Super Bowl. Anyway, Andy with the Joe Philbin here, you you raise a really good point on Mike McCarthy, look Jenny Brenta's had done a piece I think two weeks ago now looking at who the top head coaching candidates were sort of served people from around the league, and the two names that came up again, and again again, and again, which might surprise people Josh mcdaniels and Mike McCarthy Mike McCarthy is is I want to say definitely going to get a job. I think he's very likely to get a job and early reports are that that Cleveland is very interested. So letting him go now, let's get a head start on that. And let's face it the Packers. The there are no moral victories for the Green Bay Packers. And they're they're not gonna sit back and say, oh, we've been eight seven to one. Now, we have some momentum going into next season. This was it was time to reset do. You think the Cleveland the Cleveland job and they didn't win today? But let's say. Let's say finish with six or seven wins on they go two or three over five hundred under Greg Williams. And let's say Baker Mayfield keeps looking as good as I think he's looked even again, I know he had the three interceptions today. But we're going to talk further about him. Is it possible that Freddie kidney? They wanna do kind of what the bucks did with Dirk cutter of years ago and say we wanna keep the Mayfield, Freddie, kitchens marriage intact. We're going to we're going to ride with Greg Williams. I think that's a logical way to do. It the way John doors. He's been talking and look John Dorsey through everyone a curveball last raft season whenever and said, well, you can take one of the guys big arms and not that Baker Mayfield they arm but Baker Mayfield is not his style of guy. You know, a lot of whispers coming out of Cleveland or that John Dorsey wants a yellow a veteran coach a leader of men proven type of type of guy to take over that franchise. And I would boy it's tough to say I would be on board with Greg Williams getting a head coaching job that that seems to be somewhat uninspired, but I do like the Mayfield, Freddie, kitchens pairing. And I I don't know it you bring in McCarthy and have them be a CEO type or or say don't think McCarthy would do that Carthy is an offense of hands. I am Carthy calling the plays with Aaron Rodgers back there. He took back to play calling from his longtime assistant Tom Clements. He's not going to be a CEO type with Baker Mayfield young type QB. What if he's changed his mind after the last couple years what if he doesn't want? Call plays anymore. Well, we could we could see typically play callers like to remain play collars. But not all of them. I know Bruce Arians once told me he would quit coaching. If he couldn't keep Allen the place Aaronson other guy in contention for this job in Cleveland. Who do you think I'm more interested? Anyway, let's also remember the guy that had the Cleveland job. Hugh Jackson member of the year. He got that job. Everybody thought he's the number one candidate. And they've talking about him like they were McCarthy now where it's all he wears you gonna be got his trip..
