"This also comes as the shutdown is now over for now bipartisan talks to begin this week CBS's. Steven Portnoy with me, Steven what exactly will be going on in just a little while the first briefing in forty one days in the first opportunity for us to ask the press secretary questions about the news of the day. And of course, at the top of the list, the shutdown. The president told the Wall Street Journal yesterday that the chances of a deal by February fifteenth on the border wall are less than fifty fifty. Let's ask this question because it's a bipartisan conference committee congressional committee, which means there's people on both sides of the aisle. Dow we've been kind of in a position where both sides of the island and been able to find. Any figure anything out before which led to the shutdown? Are we optimistic that this time around? We'll have the the magic formula. Well, there's a reason for optimism in the sense that you have veteran accomplished lawmakers sitting at the table together to discuss these issues, and maybe they can meet somewhere in the middle. But that bubble was I a bit yesterday by the president telling the Wall Street Journal that he doubts that he will be willing to accept anything less than five point seven billion dollars for a border wall. The committee meets for the first time on Wednesday. They have two and a half weeks to come up with some kind of agreement that the president will accept or not. And that'll be the decision point whether first of all whether the conference committee can reach an agreement and then secondarily, whether the president will find it acceptable. It'd be interesting is if this bipartisan by camera committee comes up with something that both Democrats and Republican leaders can settle on if the president rejected. It'll be interesting to see what Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader in the Senate does to see advance it anyway and do Republican. Pins in the Senate, despite the fact that their colleagues signed off on it today reject it because the president has said he wouldn't sign it. Or does the congress handed to the president say Mr President, it's ours to decide it's yours to reject, but we have the power to override U. We haven't gotten there yet. We haven't seen that yet. But at a certain point people start to ask if that should happen more on the lingering effects of the government shutdown still to come on WBZ. If you ride the T hold onto your hat. Maybe your wallet to Mike Macklin tells us there's a plan to raise fares NBA fears last one point nine percent back in July twenty sixteen. Now, they're set to go up again by more than six percent. Come july. Basic bus fear will go up a dime for the buck. I know fare hikes are unpleasant bit of business, but they're they are important part of the funding. Streams this is I think a modest. Fare increase. It keeps pace with inflation. I also think doing it on a periodic basis was, you know, I'm hopeful that this this this land a little bit easier. Proposed fare hike comes as the T faces the prospect of its projected deficit doubling over the next fiscal year. Mike Macklin WBZ Boston's NewsRadio coming up ahead of the Super Bowl. WBZ's Bill markets with more on our top story city. Councillor large. So she says it's based on that contribution that counselor say they want to hear from the public. We have not set a date yet. But we'll we'll do. So on Monday, the NBA board meets they're not saying anything officially about what they're going to do though the law gives them the right every two years to raise fares when we continue to make it harder for people to ride the. Not we are going against nearly every goal that we've set as a city and a Commonwealth says there's good reason to have an insulated board, especially when political cycles are so short Bill, Marcus WBZ. Boston's NewsRadio WBZ has reached out to the T for comment. But the authority is deferred comment until Monday's board meeting. We'll federal workers are headed back to work the government shutdown over, but for how long we get the latest from CBS is Wendy Gillette.
