"Group and one of them is character which is a danish design company and they were showcasing their whereas within this logic scene of space and it was pretty spectacular. So i spoke to christian elving. He is the ceo and founder of character and i chatted to him about a few new pieces. I think we might be running out of time nick. So let's just. Let's just hear the peace standing in the cooler of the casinos showroom historical showroom and via tarini so we are upstairs in the famous stone that has been decorated by potential jeweler previously by castiglioni and many of the big stars officially can give a bit of background on. I guess how character ended up here the history in of the brand itself where it's at today my business partner and i had the idea for a no nationality furniture brand back in two thousand eleven but at the same time founded a company called league reportedly so it became more of an idea something we couldn't execute and then four years ago we sold linda porcelain in order to finally focus on the design rights. We had the possibility to get our hands on and and do our brand which is based in denmark but have much more international outlook than than what we've probably used to from. Why was it so important to kind of leave behind this danish identity and create something. That was a lot more international. Because i think if you're new nordic you of course have a great possibility of have affordable luxury. There's a big focus on danish design but at the same time. I felt that what we wanted to do. Or what what the world needs is. Just good design. That's it so we didn't want to have the restrictions off being either new nordic. We didn't want to do a brand focusing on the architects off the mid century. Modern wave of denmark. We just wanted to have basically no constraints and say let's go with the design that's so the designers all the stars of the show not the story behind it not being new nordic or anything just no nationality with that was This is what we felt. We needed to do what we want to. I guess one of the key pieces that's being shown today really represents that it's by a greek british designer. Who's based in london. The pieces made in italy. But it's under your brand labels or could you explain this furniture. Auras michael and i mike lennon dusty addison. I we've known each other for handful of years and for michael was interesting. Also to work with the brand really had no nationality. Either michael. he's to sign a very much just going with with a feeling as well needs to feel right for him and for us to work with michael. He's he's one of the big stars today but he's been on a path where he was also doing his own thing. Not looking too much. At what the market wanted but going with what design needed to be so it was a perfect match. I didn't want to ask him too early. Our friendship but now being part of the lashed design group. It makes perfect sense because what they know to do is office really will for sure and like you say it's something the market needs. I mean for someone like myself. I don't live in a massive villa. Where i can have these beautiful. Huge italian couches. I still wanna lovely sofa far. But i have a limited amount of room in this piece kind of answers that right. Yes because it's the seating death sixty centimeters so we're not talking typical super sofa from italy which talking equality on a comfort which is very talion but then it also references the type of self. We have in denmark which are not these shoot. Sofas we're leaving apartment. We have smaller homes. We don't have palazzo. So so very much cater to to the way i live the way michael lifts and i guess the way most of us and then let's maybe zoom a little bit and look at celona dumber blame. Milan design week as a whole. Obviously it's been shifted to september due to the pandemic. But now we're here at the press preview lies that's important first of all to have the event in september and for you. What does it mean. I think there is people. They really need to get out and then mobile caller. You have skin hunger. You need to see people again and at the same time do feel this creative energy that has been building up inside people so i think for us to show it for us to talk about for us to engage with with people. This is how you normally work with furniture if you do it from your office and through teams a lot gets lost so being here talking to to you token to to all the other design aficionados that are going to to milan. It feels like it's a better celona than it has been for many years because you really feel people wanting to go out and experience again so i think this is why it's necessary to do it now. For sure i totally agree just finally for people that want to come and visit the showroom. What else do you have on offer. Can you give a very very quick tour of the selection for twenty twenty one so for the selection that would be voted care starved to show. Casino launched three pieces by her in that collection. We have our principal dining collection From bottle and our office desktop relaunched years back and then we also have until manatee our first piece of furniture from him. We do lighting but now we have a piece of furniture dining table and allowance table on show here which is an amazing marble table. Typical for maharaja. It's a piece of architecture. Small-scale christian elving there. Now nick wizardly going to wrap it up. But i'm just going to quickly ask you before. We go three things that people have to do and see when they come to milan or would definitely go with the space. That amazing and we're worth checking out the other one. I'm going to go see. Because it's not just about showrooms showcasing their wares like. I normally would eat about having a space that offers something more. This pride month in national was a whole new wave of love and acceptance further community. I mean i've never seen like this before. And i think the twenty twenty had a lot to do with it just because we all had a moment to like be in our own heads and go like why. Why do we have one foliage tour people. Or why don't we dislike somebody because of the color of their skin like do any of us really have this energy anymore. You know like energy to hate somebody because they love you know. So i don't know i also think you know. Tj osborne of others. Osborne came out. And louis rose is new on the scene and she's out and i came out this year and it's just like this visibility of artists that the country music fans have been seeing for years. You know. I put on my first radio song five years ago and brothers osborne. Have you know been out for seven years in you fall in love with these artists who you know right your favorite songs and sing your favorite songs. And then later you realize that they're clear and you're cool levy just much as i did before sounds great or oh my god i love you even more like i feel like i know you more and i just feel like this. Visibility of queer people in this industry has awakened so many different like country music gatekeepers and just like important parts of this industry that they're like okay we're awake. We see what's happening like. We wanna be a part of this way if that's happening and introduce you know hopefully Let people know that they are welcome here. And i think that that just allowed this pride month to be something so different than ever. You made the decision to come out When when you said this year when month yeah Well you know it was. It was kind of like little by little. I put up pictures of ryan. Then girlfriend i And but in january. I honestly was just trying to figure out how to use tick talk. And they're like know. Put some stuff up a you know about your life thing kind of how you got here in just like put pictures up and it turns it into a video was like okay cool so i like started putting together like these pictures of hillary and i in of me out on the road and kind of just like explained the story of like how i got started and then the my life who still happen to be a girl and we fell in love and i was told that i couldn't we couldn't we have to keep our relationship a secret and or otherwise i'm gonna lose my career in now we're on the other side of things and she's about to be in these music videos. That are coming out. So i kinda hold your horses like you know. Get ready for this. And i did this as like. Let's just see what take talks. All about and posted it on newstalk went viral. And then i'm getting phone calls from my labeled it's like oh so we're doing this now and i was like. Yeah guess we are. You know like it's time. I'm about to put out this music. It's all centered around love and being a romantic relationship with my girlfriends. And you know we're about to put out these music videos. That is me and my girlfriends. Like very much in love so Yeah i think we should probably let the people know you know. We should probably like mourned. Warn the people who like he listened to my old songs. So i guess january is kind of you know when that video went out and then my knees started coming out in february and the music videos that went along with it. We're like you know me. And hillary in the music video so then it became like a very clear. What made you make the decision to use your actual partner for those videos Well first of all she would've like absolutely killed me. If i was in a video with somebody else you know like it just. I can't imagine being in a video with anybody other than her. And like you know. The songs are about falling in love and it was just so clear that it had to be her. I mean the other option would have been for me to kind of narrow. And then there'd be like another couple but for me it was important like there's there wasn't a lesbian artist lesbian country artist at the time and i felt underrepresented in my own genre of music. And i'm like well other people have to feel underrepresented as well if somebody's going to do it. I waited around for so many years or somebody else to do it. It's not happening so a modest will be like maybe somebody else's waiting for me to do it you know And also just felt like you know. The first time i put out music i was dating her and i wasn't really allowed to talk about that and it just affected me in every single way. I like dot really bad ulcers in my small intestine in had all these really bad health issues and etcetera. Oh terrible ended affected my life in every single way and i mean it was just toxic for my body was toxic for my mind and i just knew that this time around if i was going to put out music i had to be authentic because being somebody else wasn't working for me and i read this book untamed mike lennon doyle oakland Front oh i love her so much And just like she has this paragraph about integrity and explains it and just like a very black and white way. Now of course by the status quo is unsustainable or not but anyway those things are hard to never going to be proven and probably not the most to something that historians are gonna have to judge. Every person who tried to do something to advance social progress in afghanistan at all the stuff of the last week or two's going to be the prelude to really terrible terrible situation if it doesn't happen if the taliban decides to something they're interest if there's enough actual promise made in afghanistan that's not so easy to do now what maybe they could have done fifteen years ago if they don't make it easy for al qaeda simply setup terror training camps and so forth and expand over to pakistan. I mean there's a lot. There's a big variance of what's going to happen. So i think it's really important to this is not the end of the story in the real world at all in afghanistan or elsewhere and i think in that respect whatever we think about what happened at nine ten and it's very interesting and you guys were in the middle of it We need going forward to have the attitude of look. We do care what happens there. There's a range of outcomes which range from not great really awful do care what happens to the region. We do care about american credit and so it really needs. I hope the administration doesn't decide if maybe let's let's hope we have a great next two or three weeks. Get a lot of people out relatively not too much Trouble welcome. The taliban does go around killing too many people. Frankly and it's not too horrible. They can't just sort of heavy huge sigh of relief and say back to back infrastructure. We went there to bring to justice the The people who states that attack We did achieve those things. His argument was that we should have left when we got a bin laden that we should have wound down the operation. Then you also heard president biden said look. We should have gotten out ten years ago. We should have gotten out after they killed osama bin laden. You were there when they killed osama bin lachey where the chairman should. We've got out then i think. In retrospect yeah we should have. I don't think it was possible for us to just abruptly walk away right after we killed bin laden. Clearly we could have gone earlier than we did as i look back and In a lot of people are critical of the president right now. The president biden had it right back then. He was focused singly on counterterrorism and his advice was along those lines and he certainly said that and i give him credit for that fail. I think complete failure not clearly taking out bin laden was a huge impact in terms of al-qaeda. And what was represented there. I'm not inclined to to just lay it on. Yes it was a success or or it was a failure. I think were somewhere in between would striking is this society in afghanistan is different now than it was twenty years ago. And you know just the defiance the the the activism of women there and so on It's inspiring You know the the the issue was how much how much can we were. We willing to invest in continuing that in perpetuity. And how much more would we actually have to invest. Moving forecast binds point. I had no doubt that. They sat in the situation room. In in march or april in in some members of the military tried to get him to change that date. My guess is that the joe biden said to himself. I think it would be good to reflect on the whole twenty years of the war on terror and figure out whether it's historians or whether it's some sort of commission that kind of looks through the things that went well and the things that we did to degrade The capabilities of people that wanted to do great harm in the things that we didn't do well. I think it would be an interesting examination to educate the leaders. That are gonna come next. I'm not suggesting everybody has to be winston churchill but a a real dose of Of reality rather than Creating something that doesn't exist. We don't know what happens if we get out in two thousand ten to terrorism in pakistan and loose nukes and so forth. So you just have to have a comprehensive. ESPN will have programming around this well it leaks throughout the day Pro football talk has said that tomorrow morning that the first week of the NFL schedule will be released in the morning, right? Peter King is reporting that Tampa Bay will host the opening game. He believes it will be either with Buffalo on the road or the Dallas Cowboys on the roadside. That's a game so so we're going to get a lot of games leaked out over the next 24. Hours tomorrow night at seven o'clock. On television on the NFL network is when they will release the entire schedule. We will find out throughout the day tomorrow. Oh, yeah. Different weeks on the bears schedule. We will start to piece this together. But as a bears fan sitting in the position that we're in right now, having a quarterback on thrilled for tomorrow, if you like. What happens usually In a normal year. Is that the schedule release day is really big for those who are big football fans. But then you get a lot of skeptical people like Yeah, it's just the schedule. How could you say it's a win? How could you say it's a loss? We gotta wait until the fall. We got to see how it plays out, but really It's a day of hope. It's a day look forward to nothing really gets decided tomorrow, but we can kind of start to think about in our minds. Oh, and four. Like, how soon do they throw Justin fields in there like you had. That's what it comes down to. When you're breaking down the schedule. Yeah, it's a meaningless day on the NFL counter. They put out the schedule. Everybody looks at the games like, Oh, my God. I can't wait to see bucks in and cowboys on opening night and then I can't sit, Wait to see bears opening day against this team and then All they go to Green Bay this this week and then you know what I mean. You want to look for the tough stretch? What is this team going to be tested the most? Is it before the buy. When is the buy? Is it after the buys it towards the end of the season are the game's gonna start to pile up? Do they have a quick turnaround? Do they have like a Thursday? Ah, Sunday game into a Thursday game until, like another, like a quick turnaround game or something like that, Because, remember that year they played like If I'd like four games and whatever it was, like 15, 3 games and 15 days or something like that, and they want him all over the floor era, and that Maggie was like this is what I knew this team was for real because we put together they played on things They played like Thursday night, a Sunday night and then on Thursday night again for Thanksgiving. There's like three games within, like 11 days or something like that, because they put Yeah, they play Thursday Sunday and then they played Thanksgiving. Um and they want all those games and it was great. It was. That was the year they went to the playoffs and lost a great season. Of except that the playoff loss but The point is it's fun to look at the schedule, especially with the optimism we have here now, with Justin Fields, potentially at the helmet, So you want to look for the nationally televised games. So I said last year the Bears wanted to trade pay Teddy Bridgewater 20 million and weren't interested in Andy Dalton for little more than three mil this year. The Bears wanted to pay Dalton 10 million And not pay Bridgewater 4.5 million. It's just It's just so hypocritical and what changes from year to year. I get.
