ESPN daily terms conditions. Exclusions apply In the piece you call the team a siren for people who are unfamiliar with mythology eighty. I believe the sirens are the goddesses that trick people and crashing into the rocks. Am I getting that right. Most of us know the Greek mythology of it. The idea is that sailor. You're out at sea and you hear these these beautiful women singing to you from the cliffs at this island off in the distance isn't and you just follow the sound of their voice and by the time you finally get there and you realize they're not singing you to this beautiful land of milk and honey in this home that you thought when you were going to build you just crash into the rocks and die. It's it's the perfect metaphor for the Knicks. So what has happened in the past to the sailors who have followed the sirens call of Madison Square Garden. There's reporting coaches in the last twenty years we've taken this job when they all come in with great reputations people take take the job feeling like I'm going to be the Guy i Mike Jen. Tony was the guy who led the Phoenix Suns. Incredible run and then my dad. Tony goes to New York and everything goes worldly. It's like easing a mess with Carmelo Anthony. There's meddling from Jim Dolan. Now he's never really able to run the system him that he was brought there to run. I think that's what's so hard. For Knicks fans is that they have legitimacy staring them in the face all the time and they just can't. Let's make it happen and I guess it's because I'm in baby lamb than I. This is my first image that came to mind but we go to this play. Play House with my son. And there's like a mural on the wall and there's like his Doggie and he always runs over. The doggy. Dog wants to wrap his arms around the dog because he loves dogs. But it's just a painting they can't do it. It's not a real dog and like I kind of thing that's what it is like for the Knicks and legitimacy like there's all these people well you see it but it never comes to life it's just a mural on a wall it's not a real dog oh my God I Really a works Ramona. It's so the painting painting his legitimacy. The baby is the Knicks Yeah. I don't know who Jim Dolan is in this metaphor but but he does appear to be the common denominator in all of this misery right over two decades since he's been the owner. New York has the worst winning percentage of any team in the NBA. I mean it's just purely the through line in all of this coaching misery. Yeah that's a through line and like I think what's hard for Dolan to understand is that he is not he actually has stopped meddling as much he has stayed out of of it. He's he's off playing with his band. His focus is not entirely on the next right now. which if you're a knicks fan? That's good you know. Want Jim Dolan completely. Louis focused on the next. You wanted him to be focused elsewhere. But he can't quite step all the way away and in those moments where he does Rian Reinsert himself into the conversation into what the Knicks are doing. It has this effect of ruining everything right so the radio interview review where he goes and boasts about how we hear stuff we hear stuff around the league and we hear from people all the time right from players from you know. Representatives is about who wants to come the the the we can't respond because of an NBA rules etcetera. But that doesn't stop him from telling US right the end they do. The and I can tell you from what we've heard. I think we're GONNA have a very successful off-season when it comes to free agents will kill them. They're still recovering from this idea that they completely oversold their chances and free agency and totally under delivered like their expectations. Were so wild in free agency. They have a chance to go get Kevin Durant. He's injured and instead of just saying we love Kevin. No matter what you gotTa five-year Max Offer Offer Jim. Dolan says I've been burned before these injuries. I'm still paying without Amari style. Meyer thing and he doesn't allow Scott. Perry and Steve Mills offer him the five-year of your bags. Now you and I both know that he probably goes to Brooklyn Anyway. But you don't even get a meeting if you're willing to offer the Max contract then this year. Ten Games in his front office is like a ten games in go. Hold a press conference like this but Jim Dolan says get out their a sense of urgency and it just starts the clock on completely do stabilizes the franchise these are not big acts but they are important ones. And they're the they're they're the common through line denominator of why he even when he's trying to stay out of it he simply can't help himself and whatever he touches it whenever whenever he goes back in it all falls apart. Mike Miller gets the extreme privilege of stepping up as the next sailor. What what is he stepping into here? They played well from the first night. He's been in that chair before he's seen as I good XS and Os guy. I whatever but he walks in and I think the question is does he get to keep the job of the rest of the year and that that is a really important question. Meaning because Steve Mills Scott Perry are now on the clock that was why they didn't want to fire fizzed ill they were trying to give him every opportunity to turn this around because the heat's coming might as well it'd be a coach but once you've either coach he's coming on you like nobody's GonNa believe Mike Miller he's just the guy who's walking in there and keeping the seat warm but now it's about what is this the right for an office this do they have the right combination of executives. Can these guys rebuild it. So does Jim Dolan. Let them hire a new coach. I mean yeah. There's there's plenty of people in New York who would love Mark Jackson and get the job right now and a lot of ways that would win the press conference and maybe that would buy them another year or two to get the roster better better but that's also a fundamental question. Did they just by themselves a year or is the clock started on them. So Ramone I. If it's unlikely Lee Mike Miller is going to be the long term solution. Who is the next painting of the dog on the wall that are staring at and hoping Israel? Yeah so I think I think really. It's it's Messiah Jerry and it's probably always been Messiah Jerry. Whenever there's a front office opening his his name comes up and the reason being is the guy has charisma for days he has a proven track record of winning in a place? That's really hard to win. I mean dramas great city but it's hard to get free agency. It's hard to build a winner there unless you have a great organization from top to bottom and and and I think we saw the culmination of his executive talents last year when the Raptors won the title. The only question is really well. There's two would Messiah Jerry really want that job. There's a sense that he would have an interest just because the reason everybody has an interest in that it's the biggest challenge in all all of sports. And if you know Messiah Jerry and his background I mean he's he's a guy who embraces challenges however he has a really good thing going in Toronto and he can keep doing that for the restroom his career. They'll keep funding his his charities and Africa. He can he has a great global platform already. Why mess things up the second question which I think is probably the most important question overall? Is Jim Dolan. Finally ready to give the kind of autonomy to an executive that it takes to truly truly turn things around the fundamental question. He's come so close he wants to. He sees you can see he wants to but but he just can't help himself sometimes. Maybe they'll stick with the current front office. Maybe they'll go higher mark Jackson for the rest of the year when the higher the off season. We'll see if that that's the guy who can save New York New York who'd be happy about that but the holy the the the next big name.

"We love on high and and dry those plants and species uniquely happy in alpine and step environments. Mike jen curator of alpine plants <unk> at the denver botanic garden in denver colorado is a home gardener in both denver and steamboat springs today he sharing with us his is knowledge and life long passion for these plants. Stay with us <music>. Hey now oh i love that there are botanic gardens and arboretums in the world communal places designated for the appreciation of learning about out in just spending a little time with plants in otherwise very human centric spaces it wasn't until i lived in more urban environment meant for the first time which was during high school for me that i regularly went to such spaces and it wasn't until i had lived for a time in new york city as a young adult that i became heartsick for green spaces heartsick in homesick. Actually i didn't even recognize the source of my sadness this until i recognize that i felt better after being in green even little bits of green. The likes of central park were good the ideas for so many people on so many levels when i was a mother of very little girls the denver botanic gardens were our our goto outing in denver. We would all feel better just walking through the entrance. They'd be let loose from the stroller pack and i'd that'd be let loose to breathing deeply moving or running more freely our eyes and lungs and hearts and heads were more relaxed almost immediately. I remember especially needed walks in early spring after a long snowy winter inside walking with the girls under a beautiful full all delay of flowering pink and white and cream crab apple trees in spring. Perhaps you live in a city or have and perhaps you have a public garden or burrito good public park. Even a well tended university campus or cemetery that is your personal green refuge refuge and place of regeneration as we head towards the end of summer a students around the world return to dormitories and classrooms and work schedules are perhaps intensifying again after summer breaks. Pay attention to this need in yourself and pay attention to it in those around you and pay a attention to those spaces that bill this need in you notice as well the people who make these spaces possible as communal communal sources of energy and light from legislators and voters who pass bonds to support botanic gardens or maintain the protections for state and national parks and sea shores to the people working in them every day like mike to make and keep them such beautiful and regenerative communal resources. Thank you to all of you who are in this work. These spaces mean more to us than you might. No then even we might know ourselves now back to our conversation with mike alpine plant expert and advocate helping helping to keep the world green for us. All this is cultivating place. I'm jennifer joel. Mike kigen is curator of alpine plants at the denver botanic gardens in denver colorado. Oh and he sharing with us.

"They measure unique visits and then they go to their handful of core advertisers, and say, see how many people saw this ad. And their core advertisers. Just give me more, and they plumped down may back up a truckload of cash to CNN's front door and they dump it. So don't be, don't be under the misguided impression that media is out there trying to provide the truth. Out there, trying to report, what is the news? They are not. They've not been in the news business probably for going on fifteen years. They have been in the content business. They've been in the business of providing something for you to consume. And whether that's a click on a website or watching their channel all day. And I'm I'm not leaving FOX out of this FOX's in this as well. They are presenting and marketing content for you to consume. Am I mean consume? I don't mean by I mean, consume to make you fired up to make you act upon something to make you go. Do something preferably by something that they advertise. Mike Jen on the love cannon, you disagree. No, I agree. And since the election campaign of two thousand and four it's been like that. Yeah. That's like I said, this fifteen years at least I think it started before that. But well nine eleven. But the kind of backed off in two thousand two, but Iraq in two thousand three which carried them into the beginning of the election campaign. I take it all the way back to Ted Turner, starting CNN lied to go back to eighty one then I am because that Ted Turner when he got an his head a twenty four hour news cable channel. His idea wasn't ooh. Let me come up with a twenty four hour cable news channel that'll report, the truth, and that will educate Americans and make them better because they know the news that is not at all. What was going on? And Ted Turner's mind, what was going on? And Ted Turner's mind was. Let me create something that hasn't been created before. That will be consumed. Let me create a network where we produce content inexpensively and believe me, it is it's inexpensive. They don't have to pay superstars to act out on sitcoms producing a news. Channel news is a lot cheaper. You're paying a reporter to go out and write stuff, and that's it. You don't have to have writers don't have unions during any of this stuff. And that's what he was doing. He was he was finding a way to market content, and it worked, and then everybody else wanted.

No foul called brackets, get the offensive rebound. Chris Paul turns it over near the sideline he gets teed up. He second technical of the game. Bogging all of that. If how it unfolded in maybe in the end, it was just how it had to happen. Warriors, one of four rockets one hundred at the podium now at oracle, Mike, Jen, Tony head coach of the Houston Rockets. It should be interesting because we're all rebounded and get a little bit of pain or anything. They could take any game two to prevent that. Yeah. We got a little bit better with our chances to win. You know, years knuckle come in to blow these ways so thanks have to go right and couple of laughs of boxing out. But overall we play well enough to win and just didn't get it done. Can't can be sports berry. Mike them reading your lips correctly. As you walked off the court. You look, and you can you give us a perspective. The last twenty seconds of this game. Well, that's twenty seconds of my mind before that. So I won't have a clue what happened last twenty seconds. Yeah. Just I don't know. Not you know, we we played hard as we could play. And and things just didn't go our way. And we did a good job last twenty seconds. Just coming up with the steel having a chance at tie on a three point two James could got hit got not who knows. I mean. I know but anyway. Whatever. But we right there greater chances to win when this couple five shots had a couple of technicals that that costs us at damn because we're only down three or whatever. So you know, we have I have to do a better job and do better by widow chance, then Tuesday, we have no chance. To mcmanis PM, Mike, clearly you felt that James in particular in Crisan, at least one occasion for getting fouled when they're closing out on free. What what was the response? You get when you discuss that with the room. Really try to be nice guy goes out really want wanna give the the amount of charity and had the money. So. "No this is the headline news all right there is a big question mark hanging over the game tonight and it is chris paul's hamstring yesterday conference call with media houston head coach mike jen tony gave a status update on c p three and a doesn't sound very good not from the trainers chris and the doctors then you'll be ready to go with probably if any of those three disagree so i think it's the jane tom decision or you know what do you call it whatever it is doubtful whatever the hell they listed it questionable say will eventually tests schiffer's any possibility whatsoever i was just thinking about this too rachel a lot of people suspect lebron is looking kind of at houston is a place he would go it's one of those places he's good friends if you're lebron and you see chris paul get hurt again isn't it like okay kevin love just got hurt d wade was injured yeah i mean lebron is looking at this thinking damn if i this is going to be next year chris paul sport year he's hurt again i mean the one thing lebron is clearly getting tired of is i'm the only one who never gets hurt when i watched this chris paul injury it really makes me think leblond would look at houston as a destination and go momma and curses my best friend but he's hurt every single year but don't you think even if you did come back tonight there's no way he's one hundred percent might hurt houston if he plays well he'll be at the bench liability that is absolutely true moving onto this next one klay thompson i think maybe you should join brad stevens in the hallmark company that we were talking about before he had a great quote appar is thirty five points the other night listen to what he said but i definitely would my points and i mean i guess you could say yes i guess everything happens for a reason when vaccines the wall is your saas not falling are you can always control your passion and how hard you play and you should not do that it trickles over expense other aspect mark games i mean he's.

"Seven two nine three seven seven six but we do have a game seven tonight in houston warriors rockets game six on saturday night if you're a rockets fan you're thinking about seventeen point lead f for quarter for ten point lead at the half and then how everything unravelled in the second half due to a barrage of threes by klay thompson and steph curry and i'd say marvelous defensive effort especially in the final two and a half quarters from golden state just throwing bodies james harden swarming him really a tale of two games going from up seventeen to losing by twenty nine points if you're a rockets fan but you get court tonight would you don't know is the status specifically of chris paul who missed game six with that hamstring injury what about tonight here's rockets head coach mike jen tony i don't think he's all oh he's just getting treatment and trying to be sure calm down and everything and i i would think you know again this the doctors and trainers are working on in twenty four hours a day almost and they will tomorrow morning reevaluated again probably more afternoon again i don't have to say that if i get the nod from the trainers chris and and the doctors then you'll be ready to go with if probably if any of those three disagree probably not going so rockets head coach mike dantonio who was asked if chris paul had tested out his hamstring at all a lot of people are saying it's it's impossible to imagine the rockets winning game seven if chris paul doesn't play i don't necessarily feel that way i certainly wouldn't pick them to win the game but i don't think it's an inevitability that houston's gonna go down look there at home tonight here's a golden state head coach steve kerr talking about what homecourt could mean in game seven i'm sure somebody has the stat the home team usually wins you know last time we were in a home game selling the home team didn't win unfortunately it's just it's a it's a road game for us home game for them it's same advantage or disadvantage is as any other game to be honest with you we know we have a veteran team we've got guys who've been through almost everything and you got a lot of confidence got a lot of confidence as they should and when the threes all.

"The front court and advanced the ball ahead to dream on green who just looked clumsy going after they'd be it looked doomed before draymond ever touched the ball lost the handle eric gordon who was fantastic off the bench for the rockets last night picked it up a couple of free throws later the rockets had a three two series lead winning game five ninety eight to ninety four draymond talked about what happened on that possession score lawsuit was more than that you know we wanted to get the staff staff and he have fumbled the ball so nothing more than less it's just looked ugly sloppy clumsy whatever word you want to use and and that's not the first time we have felt that way the golden state warriors who you typically associated with great execution in the waning moments of each of these last two games have looked like a team that just got together an october and they were trying to figure out you know what they're going to be in the regular season not a welloiled machine that's been to a bunch of nba finals together and i know i know kevin durant was only here for one of those finals runs but still just totally discombobulated now mike dantonio the head coach of the rockets after last night's win says okay with his team on the verge of knocking out golden state dave got to deliver the knockout punch they can't depend on their opponents beat themselves view watch championship games or series and solve other than the blowouts because he gives you team off they were heavyweight fighters punching it out and they're not gonna let you win on points you got to knock them out and i thought our guys just hung in there hung in there they found a way it was isn't it won't go down as a classic lo look at all this great greatness but he should go down as a hard fall win and that's kind of where we are and where we'll be mike jen tony after seeing one last night and look he he's he's right in this regard his team found a found a way to win on a night where the guy who's probably going.
