"A lot of people in the film. Make this Jamal Hill Todd Boyd others make this point that sterling had been around a long time in this league and it was kind of known based on the Housing Discrimination Lawsuit which I would point out was settled out of court but still the the discrimination lawsuit exists Elgin. Baylor's lawsuit that there was a picture that we kind of understood about Donald Sterling was but that he had survived this whole time and people. Associate that with okay. Well it was the David Stern Ariza's Adam silver. I I I think I think there's some conclusions people draw their that. Maybe you're not entirely accurate but I'll get to that in a second. You had adam silver in this which Kudos to getting Adam who was also very honest and very heartfelt in just in the way. He presented how this unfolded from his perspective. The things he felt he had to do. Did you ask Adam at any point? Because obviously he was David Stern's deputy for a couple of decades before assuming the commissionership himself did that. Come up in your conversations with him at all about. Why did it take this tape? Yeah it did but those questions were were out of bounds on so We had to rely on the commentary from like. You mentioned Dr Todd Boy. A professor you have see who is a specialist in this area of research expertise to sort of speak to why this era of Donald Sterling was tolerated for so long and the ways in which Zairean also comments on this particularly the ways in which he ran the league at that time periods. I want to believe that if if if David Stern was still in the commissionership when this tape came out that you would have had the same outcome we'll never know of course but I wanNA believe that I think you'd probably have arguments on both sides of it really good arguments on both sides of it. It'll be interesting to see how history traits the narrative around you know the the David Stern Arab. I think he did a lot of right by his players. A lot of times and yet of course should be rightfully criticized for the ways in which he tried to sort of police the players in the League at an again when you're talking about black players and a white commissioner white ownership and his beholden to the white owners that you get in some really. You know uncountable thorny territory around what? He's actually trying to police about the players whether it's the dress code or Making sure that there's you know. Sort of a palatable emerge on behalf of mostly white audience at the time you know during the height of his era and the explosion of the NBA at the same time he should be commended for bringing the NBA to the heights that he brought it to. During that time period you know making at the global phenomenon that we know in love about the NBA. So it's not really for me to say I don't. I don't know enough about the different. You know nuances of running the League and during that time period so I just relied on those guys and and silver was so willing to be open and honest with us about how he handled this that I felt like again. Let's just shine the light on on what he did? Because you know because David Stern really wasn't a part of this you know so and it can be talked about. In retrospect when it comes to celebrate this was SORTA silver's moment to sort of say. Well this is what I did. Did you make any attempts to get David himself before We did not know so. Yeah and I can't remember if there was a reason why we stopped short of that. I think it was such a A. We were so fortunate to get Adam. Silver and we were so up against the clock time wise that it just consolidated around his interview. Yeah and I don't think David ever did. I mean he obviously was you know he was he was around he. Was You know there was a lot of things? Even more benign issues. He wasn't in addressing after he had stepped down from the commissionership. So I I can't imagine he would have ever agreed to talk about sterling. Anyway I will just say knowing David in the way that I did and also just knowing his track record and also his pre NBA experience and the fact he fought as a lawyer to end housing discrimination in New Jersey and New York. Like there's no doubt in my mind that if David had been in that chair and that tape it come out. He would have done the exact same thing for a bunch of reasons not least of which is to the point of the documentary the player uprising or the player collective voice and how powerful that was anybody in that chair. I think would have had to have moved swiftly and decisively but I also know what David was about and and when people try to reconcile that or say well he allowed sterling. There were a lot of weird things about sterling. There were stories and yes there was the this Housing Discrimination Lawsuit. That was settled. But it's not the same as a smoking gun of audiotape. And it's a distinction. I always try to make only because I think that seeing this as as being so cut and dry Adam championed the players. David protected the owners. I think is far too reductive and I don't think is is is an accurate portrayal who David Wiser. His leadership his values. I think it takes a smoking gun. Unfortunately sometimes and it's hard to get rid of an owner. Look at all the things they had to do. Just to get rid of sterling even with that tape out there in the public record. So that's a great point. That is a really great point. I mean that whole take is is really thoughtful and I think super accurate and you know you have a much deeper understanding of the different eras in Commissionership. And so you know. Thank you for that insight and yes. Let's not forget that like getting rid of an owner. I mean what he did. It's like it's not against the law and in fact what she did was technically against the law. Recording say no. You're not allowed to record someone without letting them know so like it was a real gray area in relationship to legality here it was really more about shame and then really more about you know standing up for what's right and not necessarily what you have the legal authority to do and so you know that's why. I want to believe that that the same conclusion would have been made Regardless of who was in the commissionership just because the table so regis and it was an opportunity to say. I think we have enough here. That we can get rid of this guy and we're not really sure transactional. Yeah that's GonNa work which we cover in a as well as does Ramona in her in her series But they were just a little bit in like unchartered waters around how to do it. You know it hit. It had never happened before they had never just had to remove owner and again to the complications of it that side from the legal part of it. You have to have the other owners on board the or at least a vast majority of them and you have the clip from mark. Cuban who says look too slippery slope. I'm not endorsing anything that Donald Sterling said. It was important but everybody says something behind closed doors. And that's all owners are going to think that way to an extent we. What am I going to be caught saying that was You know hopefully not of that nature but something else perhaps any particular people that you really wanted to get for this that you couldn't or any particular question that you really hope to answer that you could not you know I have great producers And really was put in such a position to succeed because of how great a job. Everybody did in getting everybody. We wanted And so I feel like there were. I mean Blake of course Blake Griffin would have been really great to sit down and talk to on but he just on Ramona's podcast and so he felt like he had he had shared given his side of the story so so he chose to not sit down with us. I would have loved to have her. You know what he had to say about this but aside from that no. I feel like you know we really did. A A my producers such a great job of casting such a wide net and getting such a great cross section of the people who experienced it firsthand the people who can serve contextualising from a basketball perspective on the people who conceptualize it from a race in America cultural perspective. So No I feel like we were able to really get everybody. Of course you could continue interview people about this all day long. I'm continue to get great stories but you know when you're packaging this into sort of ninety minutes and then cutting it into chapters. There's only so much you can do as far as getting interviews. No question and you got. You got great voices there. There's always for any of us. Who are storytellers? There's always another interview. There's always another voice whatever and yet Blake Griffin. Has a pretty big name there. But the guys you've got Chris Paul Matt Barnes D. Andre Jordan Doc. I mean they they told the story very well. Michelle Robertson and Adam Silver Silverware both excellent in this as well there was certainly very quality firsthand accounts their last couple of things. Before I let you go. There's not much basketball in this. But you do have clips of of as they're progressing through the series which they end up losing and they felt like it was one of their best chances really to to break through and they lose to the thunder and Chris. Paul had a terrible couple of minutes there with a couple of turnovers in a decisive in. I think it was in game five and I don't know if he has been on record as things before but he. He really expresses some serious. Just regret about the way that that went regrets. Maybe not the right word but he he he really he talks about how much that. Stung. So that was interesting that that there wasn't basketball going on around this too and while none of this none of them attributed the loss to sterling and at what they were going through. I don't see how from a human perspective. It couldn't have affected them and that it couldn't have seeped in somehow to to the way things played out in that series. That's the way I saw it as well. Especially you know you brought up the CNN Anderson Cooper interview that that Donald Sterling did a which was supposed to be an apology right and instead it becomes this like awful doubling down where he just says even worse things about magic and says he expresses even more uncomfortable darker truths about the way he felt about black people and it was just it was horrific. Will that interview was like a day or two before that game five and the players had been through so much just emotionally and you know the play offs right they require so much of these athletes physically and emotionally and I think when something like this happens over. The course of of a playoff run can't help but think that it didn't affect them in some way shape or form and if you WANNA take like a spiritual level of the fact that Donald Sterling although had been banned was still an owner of the team. Here he is casting his shadow or even casting his curse on the team. Still you know and I of course admire the players saying like Donald Sterling nothing to do with that meltdown in o'casey but I'm with you. There's just no way that just emotionally just with all of the distractions that it didn't affect them in some way shape or form You know so who knows it? I do and I and I really do admire how open and honest Chris. Paul was about sort of owning it and saying like I felt responsible. You know for the awesome fell terrible. Even though there were a couple of weird calls it was fluky. It's one of those weird. Fluky clipper moments yet no question Last thing th the the piece closes with Brown Wesley Morris who are great throughout this but kind of musing on the idea of if the tape doesn't exist as Donald Sterling's still owning the clippers. Today your your gut feeling on that. I think he absolutely would you know. I think it's still own the clippers. I think you know that would still be whispers. And there would still be an eye on him for sure and maybe there would be in a hopefully people waiting for him to to mess up like this in a more public way. You know maybe there would be more publications around some of his previous transgressions that get more attention but I think it would be very unlikely that he'd be gone if it wasn't for that tip coming out and they even joke about it. Ram In west that way on save the NBA..

"Lang dot com. I was just looking over at Brandon's website. And he he talked about it last week is he brings on as he is a big fan of college hoops. And he went ole miss plus the four outright, and they were a winner last night. So Brandon keeping it rolling when it comes to college basketball Brennan. Yeah, we're on. We're on quite a little tear in in college hoop, and I'm still basking in the glory of the Clemson Tigers on Monday night. So it's it's it's been an unbelievable run here in the new year. So life's good inland. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Mike Jacobs over across yonder was with you all on Clemson. Yeah. I was I was the dope. I took the bait road. I wrote Alabama into the ground, and we we've talked about it a lot. I said I'm going down with this ship. I I took them mid game plus four and a half down thirty one to sixteen. I took them at the halftime at halftime money line at plus two seventy I said, you know, what? I've gone this far Brandon. I'm just gonna go down with them. And I went down. I went down in flames. If I would have been able to talk to you. I talked to a lot of people that day who were like in Alabama. And then having after having a conversation with me, they're like, man, you're you're so right about this. The signs were there to against Georgia not being able to redefine ten of twenty four hundred sixty seven two interceptions ban the plane citadel at homeland fifty three and a half. They were tied. Ten ten at the half. That's citadel boys. That's citadel. People people didn't give Notre Dame credit for being as good. As Notre Dame was in. Notre Dame was phenomenal and dominate them. Thirty two three Jake farm in the SEC championship game two touchdowns on them. And then if you've watched Lawrence play all year, he's not a freshman. He's answered every bell. They've asked him to answer. And their receivers are incredible. You can't replace all six defensive guys in your secondary and win winning national championship the next year against those Clemson wide receivers. It's just not happening. So for me, I didn't just tell my people. Listen, they're gonna cover. I said they're gonna blow them out this. They're gonna win by double digits. If you go to brand laying dot com read my analysis. My final score was forty one thirty one. And I was sniffing. Clemson. I had forty one they had forty four. I just saw Bama in the red zone. Their offense coordinator should be fired. It was as bad. Play calling as I've ever seen get Clemson some credit, but at the end of the day to to have that and hammer that home and then Drake outright on Tuesday. Ole miss outright yesterday. Four in a row in college basketball, twenty six nine run there. It's it's it's it's solid right now, boys. January Brandon Lang from Brandon Lang dot com. Braden this is Michael Jenkins. Let's look ahead to the NFL divisional round this weekend, some incredible games and the dogs have done very, well they were four no last weekend. Most of the money right now is coming in on the underdogs again. Is there something to that? I mean, they've had a lot of success. And we traditionally we've seen it recently. But not historically what's going on there with all the money coming in on these underdogs perte parody. You look at all the teams left to a lot of people feeling that seven of the eight potentially could win the Super Bowl. The only wildcard is Philadelphia. And we'll get more into that here in a minute. But for me. Yeah. All seven last with exception. Philly could make a run here. And I think the public's buying into that. And and buying into the to the underdog hype. How much does having an extra week to prepare for coach like Bill, Bella checker, maybe to a lesser extent? Sean McVeigh plane to these lines and play into what you expect this weekend. I think for New England it's big because historically speaking they're three and six on the road in the playoffs. You give them home field advantage. It kind of really kind of douse them in. I I've always said that I think Bella check in Brady their their numbers in the playoffs are a bit skewed because of the division they plan because they get that first round by and they don't have to leave Foxborough. You know, show me a Tom Coughlin giant team that went on the road and one three straight road playoff games. And then go on to win the Super Bowl that says something to me not getting home field advantage, and then it's teed up for him Foxborough. So for them. It's huge. But everybody else, I think it's I think it's made her Kansas City a little bit because of the way their offenses, and it's a timing offense. And they may be a little bit rusty out of out of the chute, but their defense certainly needed the rest, but overall New England big time. Yeah. Brandon you mentioned Kansas City, and this is very intriguing and you're seeing tons of public money come in on Indianapolis. Just lots of tickets being written for for the colts at plus five right now. And and you know, the recent trends, you got Andy Reid you look at the chiefs history at home since the assault. This nugget since the merger of the AFL in the NFL their own nine ATS at home in the playoffs. They've lost six straight home playoff games outright, Patrick Mahomes, as a first time starter those first time starters, generally struggle. So a lot of people a lot of signs are pointing to Indianapolis and all the money is coming in on the colts. What's your field right now on the first game of the weekend with the chiefs at home laying that five? Guys. The the Clemson Tigers were two hundred timer for me. That's as big as all go on my website. I won't go any higher than that. In the NFL going back to last year. I have reeled off six straight two hundred nine releases in the NFL six in a row. The coach chiefs is two hundred diamond number.

"Have you here. So I saw Mike Jacobsen the building today. And I thought of you when I saw Mike Jacobs because when Mike Jacobs went away you did a series of stories on Jake and his career for a month. I think and I remember him telling me that he wanted you to do the stories because he said, you're the best storyteller. Oh my gosh. That that is the biggest compliment I could ever receive, and he was instrumental in helping me become even better storyteller. He is a legend. And just a such a good, man. So yeah. Yeah. And you know, telling those stories was an honor for me because just to see where he went where he traveled. How news was back. Then I mean, he went everywhere. He did what kind of advice? Did he give you when he was sort of a mentor when he was working with you? Yeah. I mean, gosh, everything from better writing skills to just navigating this crazy business. You know? I can't even remember specifics. But just every day knowing he was in our newsroom just made yet just felt more at ease. Because you knew you had this awesome human leading the way. Yeah. You know? I remember when I came as a young TV reporter to TM J four, and he took me under his wing and just told you how to tell a story little new lots things like how do you sound more effectively or? How do you use less words? And that the greatest lesson though was watching him because he didn't just sit at the desk. He's a great storyteller. He's a great storyteller. He's very active in the process of, you know, even the producers who who make the show and stack it, and he's very active in every aspect and even now I've become weakened anchor. And it's helped me even as an anchor to like, I'm very active in the process, and that's that's really important. Yeah. So it's nice. He's getting a nice honor. Tonight. You guys have a big thing going on. It's the debate tonight. Yeah. So talk about two huge things. So, you know, Mike Jacobs and Carol Megan's both being honored by the Milwaukee Press Club award into their hall of fame tonight. That's a dinner at powder, WADA me and then at six pm with the final debate. But for the general election between governor Scott Walker and his challenger. Tony Iverson is also tonight and getting these debates on j four we've done them this year, it's been huge. I mean where else can you find really the key candidates going? Head to head and talking about issues that are important everyone. And so, yeah, it's a big night are Shannon SIMS and Charles Benson along with Mitch Tyke from WWF will be moderating. And I know there's already it's at UW UM, and there's some people already protesting both from both sides outside of the building. And so it's gonna be a good night. And we want people to to watch and be active in the process because they can send in questions, and they're questions could be asked to live during the debates. So this is a tight race. I mean, all the polling shows most polling shows this is going to be a really tight race the last ice. I will like one point. Yeah. That's right. So yeah, it's really interesting. I think you know, and we we looked at that. Today ahead of the debate. An expert told us there is really just a sliver of potentially undecided voters it by this time, people usually have their mind kind of made up. So it's gonna be really interesting to see how things play out on November six, I know, you know, the expert was saying that, you know, maybe some women who traditionally support Scott Walker because of everything that's been going on with President Donald Trump. Maybe some of those women will change their typical way of voting, but that that was a potential opportunity the expert told us, but we honestly, you know, it's gonna be it's gonna be very very close race fascinating to watch Katie crow. Their today's TM J four. Thank you so much, Katie. Thank you so much. You guys did is five thirty nine on WTMJ the best deal.

"Start with what's trending and congratulations to the Milwaukee Brewers. They won the first NFL central title since twenty seven. I hate that. It's their first time in seven years when you say since it's got to be at least ten or fifteen years, right? Saying oh way back in the twenty eleven's. They won the federal it doesn't seem like it's really that long ago. Seven years. I think is a pretty long time especially in a stretch where it's been underscored by recently the cubs dominance. Yeah. I think so as well because in seven years, you can get a heck of a roster rollover as well. So not a lot of the same guys on the team. I don't know how many are on the team from that seven years ago. I don't imagine many. Although I guess in baseball when we're used to the when it happened stats involving guys name Ducky and and pepper and who've maybe this. I mean, the name sound a little more like what we're used to right now. Mike jacobs. Ron this is this. Okay. We talked about yesterday where the game got out of control little bit. Where would you go? How would you shut it down? Well, this one didn't this was a close one three two one yellow Christianity. Three more hits. Lorenzo Cain gets the go-ahead single in the eighth inning. So this is for the ace rate wind for Milwaukee. By the way, are now the home team throughout the number one seed. Coming off of that. And and they get to wait and play an actual series. Instead of the cubs just waiting around at home. And now waiting for Colorado as well as we'll talk about the show up but congrats to them. I mean, again a good game a three to one game. So we didn't get into that territory, but to host throughout I think is is is a great thing for them. We'll see where it goes. We'll see where they can take it. Obviously, we have time to break all that. Because we have another game tonight. And by the way, Christian yelich getting three hits in a game. And that's the maybe the most impressive thing about this wind because yelich had struggled against the on the season. I think he was batting 175 against them in the first one hundred and sixty two games in which the regular season it played. Then he comes up with the three big hits to get that offense wins the batting title. He's going to be the MVP. And after the game he talked about what it meant for this team. So proud of these guys. Here over this last month and last couple of weeks off eight in a row to get to this point in coming here and went out winner. Take all. Really? And for us to come together as a team that was really special. So now.
