Noose found in Bubba Wallace's garage stall, NASCAR says

"Now? Mike Greenberg Bristol with you this morning. And as I said right off the top of the show, I would have loved to have started with any of those today, and we certainly will get to the mall, but we begin with an absolutely despicable story coming from the world of NASCAR. In this developing story, a noose was found in bubba Wallace's. Stall at the NASCAR race in Talladega Alabama yesterday less than two weeks after Wallace led efforts to push NASCAR to ban the confederate flag NASCAR announced the news last night well after the race had been postponed due to inclement weather, and said it was launching an immediate investigation here. was there statement late this afternoon? Nascar was made aware that a noose was found in the garage stall of the forty three eighteen. We are angry and outraged, and cannot state strongly enough. How seriously we take this heinous act! We have launched an immediate investigation and we'll do everything we can to identify the persons responsible and eliminate them from the sport. As we have stated unequivocally, there is no place for racism and NASCAR, and this act only strengthens our resolve to make the sport open and welcoming to all while himself tweeted a statement last night, which read in. In part today's despicable act of racism and hatred leaves me incredibly saddened, and serves as a painful reminder of how much further we have to go as a society and how persistent we must be in the fight against racism. As my mother told me today, they are just trying to scare you. This will not break me. I will not give enor- rely back down. I will continue to proudly stand for what I believe. In Allah Marty Smith is covering this for us in the scene in Talladega. He joined us an hour ago. The News in Bubbas garage stall was actually seen by a member of his team. Darrell Bubba never saw it. He never saw it personally and win. That team members saw it. He alerted NASCAR. And Nascar immediately had a meeting of its senior executive staff, and they made the decision that they were going to remove this person from the sport as quickly and rapidly as possible. This was not a situation where a fan might have meandered in on this because there were no fans in the garage. So what you're looking at is you're looking at team members. You're looking at officials. You're looking at potential security. You're looking at maybe cleaning personnel that have access to these garage areas. Again! That was Marty Smith with US earlier. Lebron James among many who posted messages about this. He tweeted sickening Wallace, my brother! No, you don't stand alone I'm right here with you as well as every other athlete, I just want to continue to say how proud I am of you for continuing to take a stand for change here in America and sports at Nascar. I salute you as well. Well Sprint Cup driver Michael McDowell added. God help us the level of evil. It takes to do something like this is disgusting. This is enraging and heartbreaking all at the same time Dale. EARNHARDT Jr. tweeted simply a hope of a wins it tomorrow again. The race will be run today. It was delayed by weather yesterday, and as I bring Steven A. and Marcus into the conversation here I'll. Repeat that the area in which this was discovered, there were cameras all over it should be. Relatively easy investigation for the NASCAR officials to conduct, and we are standing by for any information live from Talladega Marty Smith will bring us anything as soon as there is any further news with that thought in mind, Stephen. We've not yet had a chance to say good morning to you I. I just want to give you the floor here. What are your feelings and thoughts as we see this story developed from last night? Well I. Mean I think that for me? Personally I'm a little bit different than the kind of sentiments that have been expressed by a lot of people, because obviously you find this reprehensible and disgusting, and it's incredibly sad, and we get all of that but there's a forgive the the figurative smirk that might end up covering my face or draping my face because to me. Me It's just folks displaying the ignorance, and the more they put it on display, the more it enlightens a lot of people in White. America about what Black America has been telling them about for so many years decades spanning centuries for crying out loud. This is not new. This is something that we've known existed for all time. This is something we know we'll continue to exist. And there is no way around it and so this there comes a point in time where you have to accept that reality one of the things that I would encourage everybody to go watch. If you get an opportunity, you can go on Netflix. You can watch that documentary thirteen by EVA do vernay along with others, sensational job of address mass incarceration in the United States, of America one of the things they highlighted. Is that under the Nixon? Administration where you're literally talking about you know White folks that are hippies and you associate them with marijuana and you associate black. Black folks with crack cocaine, and as a result of that will ultimately galvanize folks in your favor, because they'd be scared to death, and you'd be hearing words like law and order ad, nauseam that was in the sixties for crying out loud in two thousand and twenty, and we're hearing the same thing now. You just have to open your eyes. You have to pay attention to the parallels you have to. You have to pay attention to the correspondence. That's taking place right before your very eyes throughout history, we have had people that have been adroit at light laying low. Controlling the narrative, manipulating the narrative switching things to their favor, all in an effort to maintain or to retain power. It's something to kind of thing that has been taking place in. Usually they've been incredibly skilled at remaining in the dark and saying it's then it's not us, it's them. It's not us well guess what are coming to light more and more in this day and age I find that a cause for celebration, not a 'cause. You know to be saddened by anything. The I find these to be. Beautiful tops as difficult as it may be the fact that I nation appears to be becoming more enlightened than ever before and ultimately as a result. We're coming together. I find that to be a huge plus not a minus. If the ignorance has to show itself, and if the ignore, it has to showcase themselves in order for this to happen coming out of the dock to me. That's of course was celebration Marcus. Stephen. That's what I alluded to earlier man just come on out. Show us who you are, so we know how to deal with you and everybody. That's four. Right knows how to deal with you. Look listen, this is. There has been. We've been having this conversation for a long time. I mean we had this conversation we had. This conversation went capped kneeled about police brutality. We talked about racing all of them and man you. You look if you look around and social. There were people literally Oh twitter last night. Say A BUBBLE! Did this for attention? What what are you talking about like? It's not. It's not unfathomable that someone could do that. We sold Jesse's me. Make reference to that because people can conjure up things to create narratives to make people overreact. That's why saying earlier. Estimate I'm not doing this emotional. Rollercoaster I'm getting off of it right like I'm nuts and bolts to was going on. There is progress that needs to be made in this country I'm focusing on that progress that needs to be made. That's what bubble wireless is focused in on a by making his statements in Nascar. That's a lot of athletes are focused on a lot of people in society in general of focused on making sure that we draw a line between racist people and people that one good for everybody. That's the bottom line. Look for as much as this is egregious and the things that have transpired for low type. I grew up in the south light. It's not. An uncommon for me to see racist people are know what it looks like or even even be surprised or shocked about certain things that tend to happen. The bottom line is this. I'm often emotional roller coaster like if you racist just be that come out publicly and be that enlist separate that and you be a part of the minority port society that we want to get to, and we think we already are at so all of that being said I'm with Steve Day like in this bringing a lot of people to the light, and the hateful ones are fighting their battle because they see slipping away. Score you're not GonNa hear me say this very very often, but I wanNA give major major kudos to a Lotta. White folks out there in America because if it wasn't for them, protesting and marching with black individuals if it wasn't for them, you know engaging in the kind of of of you know resistance to whatever level of oppression we as black people have been feeling this nation I. Don't think some of these folks will. will be coming out I. mean listen the back. In the day. They used to wear the sheets and used to cover the identity and their faces that we didn't know who the hell they were by virtue of that now. Some black people, a lot of black people will tell you they exist in corporate America. They could be the very people that you're working for the very people that you're talking to I happen to be. Be Blessed we happen to be blessed to not certainly not have that at this company is because we've seen the actions on the part of our executives. And what have you over continuous basis? Elevated level of sensitivity that this place has shown throughout the years deserves to be commended. There's always work to do. There is no perfect place. Make no about it, but I'm incredibly proud to be a part of the Walt Disney and And specifically the ESPN family in that regard having set all of that I'm in the minority, because the reality is vast people, there's a vast number of people of African. American descent in the United States of America that feel subjugated I wouldn't go so far as to say enslaved, but feel subjugated by bosses in corporate America people that say all the right things when the cameras are rolling, but behind the scenes they engage. Eight your and the conduct. Subjugation that they devote their voiceless. They don't have a voice in that regard, green. Marcus knows exactly what I'm talking about. And so because of that because of these times that we're living, what we're seeing is a populous within the United States of America that sees the dramatic shift, and there's so appalled, and and put and taken aback by what they see transpiring that they can't hide their vitriol. They're coming out of the dock because they're being forced out of the dog. We as black people. People have to appreciate the fact that couldn't happen without a vast number of white individuals in our society standing with us and saying you know what we see where the hell you coming from. If we didn't see it before we see it now, and we're with you, so you have that other segment of the population saying wait a minute we lose some of our own here. Some of our own alternative guests and the poor in this noxious. We gotTA speak up and as a result. Of the dock again I find that a cause for celebration doesn't bother me at all. If we wore, we wore. Let's get it on. I liked that. I want to leave it there for the moment again. Marty Smith is standing by Talladega. If there is any further information on the investigation, we will have it for you immediately, meanwhile, Steven as going to stay with us here for a few more minutes, and we'll get some football conversation as we go his feelings about the Dallas, cowboys have been well documented. This should be a very big day in Dallas. We will talk about it and why and then Lebron and other NBA players have until Wednesday to decide whether or not they're going to play. What should we expect? Woge will answer that question as we continue this out. GET THEM ON ESPN. GEICO. GETS YOU ACCESS TO LICENSED AGENTS? Twenty four

"We never saw Michael Jordan's teams lose. We never saw them lose the NBA also went entirely different direction after that. So they could. I'm doing this from memory. But they couldn't have won sixty games in one thousand nine hundred axiom and play sixty games the equivalent of the equivalent over sixty wind pace but like that season will always have like a little bit of a weird asterisk to it right like like. I remember Phil. Jackson would always kind of downplay that when his he started winning with the Lakers the next year he would always kind of say well that one year. But that didn't really can't like there's something in its own way if all this stuff is just a story anyway if all this stuff is just some gigantic piece of dramatic Entertainment than having this unusual a ending with these perfectly written perfectly cast villains is is sort of a nice way to end it. Nobody ever beat Michael Jordan. They took it away from. They didn't let them keep going and didn't let 'em keep trying and the same can be said of fill to fill contributed to that also. Because I think Phil. One hundred percent United his players against the common enemy. That was Jerry. Krause and I think that's one of the reasons they cross hated sell so much is that Phil was fueling the Anti Jerry sentiment amongst the players not not I think maliciously but because I think he recognized it as a way of uniting them against the common enemy or in a common cause and that's the oldest trick in the book I think Phil Use it effectively and I think that more than anything was the root of the discord between those two guys. I think Jerry's feeling was. I gave you this like you were coaching the Albany protrudes CBA. I put you on this bench. I gave you the head coaching job when Doug Collins was obviously doing great and we were on a positive trajectory Here you are now. This is your big triangle. And now you're telling your sort of secretly sowing the seeds of discord in these guys disrespect me in front of me. Call me crumbs to my face on the bus and not do anything about it. You know that's That's not great co-parenting and I think it's a look at it. That way like Jerry Crafts. I think I think he had. He had a point there but to go back to Phil. One of the reasons. I think that we associated feels so much of the triangle is a little bit of not revisionist history. But the triangle doesn't work anymore for all the reasons you just described and Phil came to New York and a very high profile way and refuse to acknowledge it and made everything about the tribal so the triangle was not a dirty word in the NBA when it was winning championships the Triangle won eleven championships in the NBA In a span of whatever that wound up being fourteen years whatever it was so the triangle was not a negative thing. It was a perfect thing for what it was. It was of its time. An Avocado era and the game has changed. There's no reason to discredit what Phil did. Then because they were running the triangle it was the perfect offense for its era and for its talent the reason we look on it so negatively at least in part III is because he tried to jam it down the throat of absolutely everyone in New York in and outside of the Knicks Organization and it wound up being his undoing there and set back that franchise and just generally made.

"To ninety seven. They moved the three point line in and it like dramatically changed the game. So if you look at Michael and Scotties stats like Something like thirty five to forty percent of Michael's made three pointers. Come in two seasons and Scotty similarly. It's like a disproportionate about the NBA. In effect gave them a weapon that they didn't have by moving the three-point line in a couple of feet. And I think that compensates a little bit for the aging and declined athleticism. Like one hundred. Three's two seasons in a row in ninety two. He made twenty-seven threes. And if you watch game one of that finals which is the shrug game. Winning six three and a half marv Albert is like astonished that he's even shooting threes. Clyde Drexler is defending Michael Jordan than that game like teams defend. Ben Simmons. Now it's like you just go ahead buddy. Go ahead insurance. It's insane so I think that moving the three point line in gave Michael and Scotty a tool. That wasn't really in their toolbox which which made the boat which made the ninety six balls a little bit more verse not versatile but just as another thing they could do. You're making a very interesting case. I someone who I have not seen practically any of in the last and so far was one of my favorite people to be around during those that those runs. Everyone talks about tax winter because of the triangle offense they had an assistant coach named Johnny Bach who is an NBA life. H was his name and he was around the league. For trillion years and tax was the offense and Bach was the defense and when he would put Jordan Pippen Rodman and Harper on the floor. He called at the Doberman overnight sense and and they would go out there and they will just attack you and that's something. I really have not thought a lot about you. Know here's what I would say. Zach is that sometimes you emotion gets involved. I will admit that in ninety six ninety eight ninety five ninety sixteen I was put off by the Rodman Thing Rodman. I felt came in there. He became such a sensation in town. Like I'll tell you a very quick story about it. I don't know how will you know Chicago. But they have these expressways.

"Is that guys. Keep jumping around to play together. I have no problem with it. I don't in any way begrudge them doing it God bless them. If I were in their shoes I'd probably do the same thing but what you were robbed in that as seeing the evolution of a championship team. So when when Lebron James Dwayne Wade Chris Bosh got together in Miami. They went from zero to sixty immediately. You didn't see the knocking on the door of anybody. They just went from irrelevant to in the finals in one year and then every single year and the broad and he goes to Cleveland and they're in the finals every single year and Kevin Durant goes raw Golden State and they're just going to win the championship and there isn't going to be any thing to be said about it and they obviously would right now. Be Three TIME DEFENDING CHAMPS. If they hadn't been ravaged by injury particularly with durant but in those days you would actually see the evolution of it and toward never lost so to me. It's a combination of the two three peats. Plus the fact that once he started winning we never saw him lose so every time one of the others to whom he has compared wound up. Losing and Lebron has lost a lot in the biggest box. Most of it not his fault. But that's the easiest way to say what Michael Jordan has never freaking loss. I mean no matter what happened. That guy wasn't gonNA lose and that's a very tough thing to compete against Scotts turf. Builder Triple Action has acquired the secret to building a thicker greener lawn in return. They have taken all the hard work out of the picture. That's good to give you more time to do nothing..

"You all the way and now the Lopez. Welcome to the low post podcasts. Where it's still nineteen ninety. Eight and not twenty twenty. Twenty twenty sucks and I am thrilled to be joined by someone who is around the Chicago Bulls a lot including during the first three peat and someone who occasionally lets me go on his television show in the morning the one and only Mike Greenberg. How are you? I am terrific. Thank you very much for having me on a fan of this and some thrilled to be here. I've been living I. I wrote a big twenty Cuco story last week. A Big Pacers bowl story like I just. I have chosen to exit. Twenty Twenty. Because it's too depressing and go back and relive my late teens and early twenties. It's a great time. Like Hey rik smits. How are you doing Rick Smits? You're still really sad about nineteen ninety eight but it's fun to talk to you. It's been it's been a good time. I've enjoyed it too. I've been working so I think I sometimes jokingly say of all the people that I know from a professional standpoint my schedule and life have been probably impacted less than anyone. I know during this but but I love seeing last dance in any for different reasons. Because it's not often that we get to relive our youth like the biggest difference between Those days and now for me I was there and now I'm here. Is that one that was stuff was going on. I was twenty four twenty five twenty six years old and reminding me of the way I viewed things. Then you know in some ways. It's not that the world was simpler or better or worse but I was younger and everything seems simpler and better when you're younger so I've it has been like a trip back to my youth with whole movies that don't contain me. There's someone else's home movies but I was close enough to them that they matter to me in a personal way so I've really gotten a thrill and I'll tell you one other thing. My son is seventeen and he loves basketball and I think you and I have discussed the fact that he really has never in his lifetime. existed in a world where the Knicks were a really relevant team. That one good year they made up a little bit of a playoff. Push for the most part. He has never seen the Knicks matter. So that kind of breaks my heart a little bit as a kid who grew up going to the garden all of my childhood and he also is one of these people who will tell me that. Lebron James is definitely a better player that so I have gotten extrordinary pleasure out of watching these films with him and showing him all the ways in which. That isn't true. Well so much of how we process. Sports is and how we process. Anything is we tend to like what we saw. I and so it's it's as stupid as like every night at ten o'clock except when the landscape last dances on my wife and I are binging. This silly show called the great British bake off which is a baking competition. It's like our winedown show and I like the first version that I saw better than the most recent version that I've seen just because I saw it I it's like a lot of people who love mid-range Jumpers and don't like threes. It's just because they grew up watching mid-range jumpers and not threes and if you flip the order they might feel totally differently so for me. Michael's championship runs span aged thirteen to age twenty for me. So that's like that's your coming of age as a sports fan. That's going from like kid. Who's like dimly aware of sophisticated sports analysis into young adulthood? So there will never be anybody in sports. Who is Michael Jordan for me? As a consumer of sports they just. It doesn't matter if Lebron breaks the scoring record. It doesn't matter if he wins three more championships. He will never resonate with me and people my age the way Michael Jordan. This is not possible and that is the moment that it occurred to me at some point during this that eventually we all become our dad because my dad would be the one who was telling me. Michael and I do a terrible imitation of my dad. He would say to me. Michael if you don't put Oscar Robertson in this conversation then we're no longer having it by. You don't have any idea what you're talking about if you're telling me you don't think. Oscar Robertson was every bit as good as any of these guys. You're talking about your Julius erving. You're so excited about and anyone else. I may have liked in the late seventies. Which is what. I'm a firm a load of the you are so I felt my came of age as a basketball fan. I just missed the championship Knicks. I'm just guy. Slept in Walt Frazier's pajamas. Not Literally his. But I slept in your knicks number. Ten footy pajamas and so I just missed them. So my my knicks teams of note of the earliest ones. I remember we're like toby. Night and Glenn Ganders can Larry Gimmick and all sorts of people exact all did it came to Bernard King when Women Mixed Gut Bernard King and Huby had those teams where they played the full first unit and the full second unit. That will always be my favorite team of all time when they took the the the Celtics the legendary Celtic seven games. When Bernard King's fifty points in all those games that was when I fell in love with basketball and so to me. I'll never love anything like I loved that but I'll never see another player like Michael Jordan under any circumstances. Yeah I've been. I've been going around the house for the last three days singing. The sometimes I dream that he and my wife is like what are you. What are you singing? And I'm like it's just a soundtrack to my life and it has always been and your point about everyone being your dad. So we'll bond came on the podcast last week and did the old man yelling at cloud thing about how Michael is. The greatest in the warriors would never beat the Bulls and you know he got made fun of a little bit on twitter for it. I I will tell all the twenty year olds who make fun of the forty year olds like me for not understanding. What Tick Tock is in all of this? It's going to happen to you to in twenty years to twenty year olds are going to be making fun of you for being the old out of touch person. It's going to happen to everyone anyway so I was very excited that last night. They got into the ninety two and ninety three finals in the first three peat. A little bit because you were there for that. I repeat you are on the ground in Chicago working in the media covering the team. You told me Your every. Shoot around every practice. You're so you're in Portland for the ninety two finals. You're in Phoenix for the ninety three finals. And that's going to lead us to the sort of debate. Everybody loves to have. What's the best bull's team ever? But I WANNA set back before we get into that I just you know. I've been watching a lot of those two finals for podcast purposes in the last week or two and I just I had forgot like in my head. The Portland series unfolded like a lot of the other finals. Where it was kind of it was an easier series for the Bulls had forgotten that that was a two series going into game. Five Phoenix won. I remembered that the road team on every game except for one and they had to go back to Phoenix decline. So I just I'll open it up to you. I don't know of those two playoff runs. I don't know if you have favorite memories. Favorite practices favorite conversations. Ah Game or a scene that you will always stick with you. That's your some of your favorite young Mike Greenberg Memories. So I'll start with this for me. This is probably very personal. As opposed to bigger picture. But I'm a kid from New Yorker grew up with season tickets to the Knicks. My entire family is still in New York at that time. And there are no words to describe how important the Knicks were to my family. My parents at that time my brother and I'm a reporter working in Chicago covering the Bulls and as good as the series with Phoenix was as good as interesting as the series of Portland was the series against the Knicks and ninety in the starting in ninety one ninety two ninety three and ninety four when Michael isn't fair on the Hugh Holland series. Were the most intensely competitive sporting events I've ever seen in my entire life I've never see teams like I was a little bit surprise early in the Jordan Films. Here that the vitriol remains between the Jordan teams and the bad boy pistons but seems to have largely disintegrated with the Knicks. Because I'm here to tell you that those series were every bit as competitive every bit as vicious as physical as As hotly contested and a big part of it is Phil Jackson and Pat. Riley hated each other and that was awesome. They were rivals going all the way back to their playing days. And so I mean it went all the way to the coaches. So what I remember. Most were those games between the Knicks and the Bulls were better than any of the Finals Games The year ninety three is the year that starts as the left handed dunk to win game two and it looks like holy smoke. They're gonNA throw these guys Jordan's GonNa lose and the Knicks are GonNa win. And that was one of the Dave Anderson Collins comes out of they just went through all of that in which they make a big deal Jordan going to Atlantic city. And he did he legitimately stop talking to us. Michael who was the most accessible superstar you could ever imagine who would stand there and talk to you until the cows went home At that point the cows off because not talk to anybody for weeks and that was the most it was just the most dramatic thing and I guess I had such a personal stake in it because in those days the big thing and I guess it still is in basketball was my family would never stopped telling me. Jordan is getting every call every call. This is ridiculous I Michael. I can't even watch this. Jordan gets every single call. The Ref want the League wants Jordan back in the final so badly in Chicago on my own radio station. The narrative was the league wants New York in the finals. They want the Knicks to make it so it just goes to show you the depending upon which colored glasses you're wearing everyone's nuts uth. Everyone's was my favorite. That was a very long answer to a short question. Those were my favorite memories were though series between the Bulls and the next was the most exciting competitive dramatic stuff. I've ever watched so I would like to go back once when I when I have time..

"Yeah. The one thing that should be pointed out, and and it wouldn't it wouldn't be a conversation about the jets. Have you didn't find something negative to say, the the acquisition of Moseley, and the attempted acquisition of our only go to underline that the jets in two thousand sixteen may have had the worst draft in NFL history. The person who was in charge of it is still there. But their first round pick was Darren Lee, whom they clearly have now spent a fortune of money to overcome and the second round they traded up to draft Christian hackenberg who can't play in the developmental league league. It is that is now I don't even remember the name of the league. But whatever the name of the league that isn't the NFL is he's not good enough for that. That's the name of the league the league that isn't the NFL in the second round that should be the new name of that league the league that isn't the NFL. Right. And and but it's too good for Christian. That I mean. It's just unbelievable. I listened to me. There are there's there's one St. on this show. Like, Stephen a Smith is on a rant on first aid. We will stop whatever it is. We'll do we're doing air that read the other thing. I don't wanna say it's a close second. But I'm telling you, Chris and Billy when you are doing top fives on get up. They will stop the show sometimes that we could pay attention. So with that in mind at check greeny and every morning get up on ESPN. We thought it'd be fun to ask you. We were talking about the dead and company today me-meeting, Georgia, Dr Martin and his budding friendship. He and I have we were wondering the top five concerts. Mike Greenberg would want to attend to be living axe now green. Okay, they have to be a lot. So top-five will start might you. Have you have some sound or anything? Well, my machine just broke a ROY. We'll have the fan fair. Roy's going to he's going to have the the crappy fanfare you've come accustomed to on the one hundred show. All right. So let's go let's go with number five, Mike number five. I've tried to be as creative for you as I possibly could an act that I never got a chance to see. And then I would give anything to see is. I would love to see the police who are one of my favorite bands of my youth reunite and play. I know they did tour together a couple of years ago. They didn't I didn't see it. I've seen sting. He plays a couple of police on's, and then a bunch of his other really boring stuff. I would like to see the police get together and tour as the police circa like outland us two more in nineteen Eighty-three that would be number five. Number four, my number four. I saw this band play. But no one has seen them play all together outside of I think they got together for one one of the like the philanthropic concerts a few years ago, but I would like to see the original members of Pink Floyd play together. Again, I saw Pink Floyd in at the Nassau Coliseum. God's to to be near and dear to your heart in about one thousand nine hundred eighty six or seven, but that was after Roger waters with gone. I would like to see the original members of Pink Floyd together playing all their old stuff. I would like to say all right number three. My number three. I wanna see Simon and Garfunkel one more time, I've never seen them together. I've seen Paul Simon many times when he did his what he described as his last tour and his last show, which he did in his hometown of queens. I was positive that are Garfunkel would come out, and he didn't the two of them have a bad relationship. But one more time before we lose one of them. I'd like to see them play together again. And I would like to be there when they do. Number two. The greatest Super Bowl acts without question or Bruno Mars and beyond Fe. I think if the two of them played together, it would set the internet and everything else on fire. I'd like to see the two of them play a concert together. We took my family went to see Bruno Mars last year at Barclays he was phenomenal beyond say, obviously is a performance..

"They were just assuming that got in. And they probably know nothing about the the Athlon x or I could see scenario, which they don't know anything about the the complexities behind how they got in you feel bad for the kids. But it's pretty it's pretty understandable to think that they're going to get expelled for this. Like, he can't have what would you want to stay there? Anyway, if probably not be can't have this crazy illegal stuff happening and the kids just, oh, we'll let the kids. Stay like sorry kids. Even if you had nothing to do with this like, your parents broke rules, and you have to pay the price. Now, the weird thing is it's an outrageous crime. But at the same time, it is a white collar. Crime and its large. Let's be honest. It's largely a victimless crime in the sense that the only real victim here to look at it in a specific case is the actual crew athlete who didn't get a scholarship because it was taken by the rich daughter. So I only real victim. I was a bit upset disappointed with by self on Tuesday. Because I didn't I didn't think about it from that standpoint. And I'm glad you took me there because my daughter Rachel who was working really hard to do it the right way. She's a daddy. This is a really serious story. He's like she's been all over it. And she's and I said, all right. We'll explain and unless I knew where she was going, but she was saying I'm out here. Working my butt off trying to get to a D one lacrosse school. And if this is happening, and those sports, maybe it's happening in my sport. And would that be? Wouldn't it be a shame? If I I didn't get to the school. I wanted to get to because someone had more money than you did. And they paid their way it right and to which. Yeah. Had to stop and pause for a second. Because to me. That's that's that's a tricky and difficult part. I I listen I wake up many many mornings to the sound of a ball against the wall at like five thirty in the morning, and it's my daughter outside working on her legs. The schools that at your house your daughter was doing it. And it's all she does maybe get her nets which is enough that third a begins to how hasn't. Harry knives. Yeah. Refers back yards a lacrosse field. Man. Not that big also. Yes, the real victims are the faceless people that are angling for crew scholarships. Can you be angling for crew scholarship and come from an underprivileged family? I'm not I'm not really I'm not really sure how that meshes. But for the narrative, that's what's going on. Here is there obviously taking scholarships away from somebody that could really use that scholarship. You would imagine unless they're going for crew. Also, you tell your daughter, no one will have more money than me. Don't worry. I went through somebody still got. The day at time use an alias. Yes, I told. I mean, seriously she's out there working really, really hard. And I'm guessing if it's happening in crew and soccer. It's happening everywhere. Right. Yes. And so that would be. I'm guessing thirty happened in in the sport of the cross and to see your own child work is hard as my child has worked the play division one high level across which is certainly good enough to do and she is on that path. Yeah. I'd be furious. If she didn't get there because wealthy entitled parents were were paying it feels like this entire segment segments. Been you angling for scholarship. It is. Bingo, let's consider the secret life of the innermost. Nesting doll living most of her life in the dark inside the other nesting Dole's..

Dak Prescott won’t take the Dallas Cowboys to the Super Bowl

"I don't see the Cowboys ever winning a Super Bowl with that. Got a quarterback. Because once you get to the point where you're playing against the best competition in your conference, even if you were to get to the Super Bowl plan the best the other conference has to offer. He's gonna make big mistakes in a big spot. He's not going to see it. He's gonna throw the terrible interception. He's going to break. Now. He can and that past Amari Cooper where you could see him pats head a little bit. So Dan Lobski talking about this this morning on get up with Mike Greenberg. Audible to the go right down the sideline where he got the matchup. He wanted that was great quarterbacking in that. That's what you're supposed to do if you can play at a championship level. But there are times where he misses wide open guys and also throws balls into coverage where if you're in the meeting room at that Prescott the next day of the offensive coordinator, if he was a rookie you'd be saying to them. What did you say? What were you looking at? How could you not have seen ABC in thrown it here? He makes those mistakes. I don't think you're ever winner with them. At least not big you can be a playoff team. You're not going to be a playoff winning team with that Prescott a quarterback. I don't think.

"Actually start talking about that it create a level of relevancy. So from that standpoint, I do believe in one way, shape or form. He's going to be affiliated with eighteen. No, none. None. That's a very slick thing. You just said that less is what do you mean affiliated because you could be affiliated with the team as a player personnel director scout anything like that. What are you saying? Here's what somebody's going to do. I asked that record Glasser. Somebody's going to bring him in. Slowly, they're going to hire met to be an advisor to the owner to the general manager associate coach. And then before you knew it. He's going to continue to get more opportunities with that French reason, why was questioning Jalen Mike Greenberg is because I was saying there's no way in hell. They do. Rick Pitino is going to be a head coach again in the National Basketball satiate, and it's never have. I don't think it's ever going to happen. But it's not that he doesn't deserve. What happened in college? Jalen, right. That's one of the collegiate level. Clearly he's qualified and when you consider the up temple style that we see take place in the NBA. That's certainly something that Rick Petito, situa mastered. Yeah. And not not just on the collegiate level. But in this time in the NBA as well. The problem is. Jalen bring this up, but he'll not in that formation. When I say this in my opinion, today's youngsters that are running organizations the age of the analytics and Owen, they don't want to bring in a coach who is established hall of Famer credible. Winds national champion or whatever because they're threatened that their their power is going to be compromised.

"We've had this conversation about diners all morning, and we're trying to imagine if Mike Greenberg has ever been to a diner like two thirty in the morning sitting over a plate of Freising gravy last time. Mike Greenberg has been to a diner. I go to diners all the time, but net not at two thirty in the morning, but that is I go to the diner for breakfast every Saturday and Sunday morning of my life. I am from New York in New York. We call them coffee shops and I eat breakfast and a coffee shop. I don't do it because I work so early in the morning, so I'm not going to a coffee shop before I get to my my place of work at five o'clock in the morning. But on days that I'm not working, I eat in a diner or coffee shop. Breakfast, literally every single day, where do you place your napkin? Oh, good question. Napkin begin. So so so that the napkins paper napkin that is underneath the play setting, what you've got, you've got the silverware on top of the napkin. I like to leave the silverware on top of the napkin because I don't want to put the silverware on the booth that has been wiped down with that one rag that they used to wipe down every single booth all day long and probably haven't washed since sometime in the late seventies. So I leave the napkin there and invariably will ask for, and now the place that I go regular, they're already know. They bring me a whole stack of other napkins, which sit there next to a not on my lap. They sit next to the plate and they are ready for whatever use that I require them. You hold the Gordon, that coffee shop. Don't you do a sports show? Don't you know? I mean, I, you know, I, it's usually with my kids. All kidding. Aside, my daughter, my daughter, Nikki who is going to be eighteen years old next month eight. Her first ever solid food in that diner in the diner that I eat in all the time in the town in Connecticut where we live, she had an open face Turkey sandwich. She was like, it was July fourth. So she was about ten and a half months old. And the first time she ever eight solid. Food was in that diner. So I, the diner and the whole diner coffee shop thing is very near and dear to my heart. I agree. And we missed you hear on the radio, but love and get a check it out every morning. Seven to ten AM with Michelle and Jalen of course, migrate Berg is the host, check it out on ESPN. Excuse me, Mike, that you so much for the time. We appreciate it. Good to talk to you again, guys. They'll see soon donlevatar my dad's in the baby business ready? Yeah. Down at one time. Had the number one selling baby seat, carriage, stroller, all of it at one time stugatz didn't you tell me one time that your dad really miss out an opportunity to invest in air? Yes, in air. My dad also missed out on an opportunity to invest in the hacky sack. That was, that's the one that haunts VC's live at our show with this to God's own ESPN radio. All right. Thanks to Mike Greenberg for joining us earlier. We got a sui award coming up at noon eastern. Billy did you notice during the local hour today is real good. Air is talking about a flag football tournament that he has to play, and that's not the problem. The fact that he has to travel to Denver to play in a flag football tournament seems a bit odd does. It is their prize because you're going to spend a ton of money to get there. What, what's the reward? What's the pay off some pride, the trophy. There's no money in this one. There are a lot of flack. What ball tournaments that you play just for money. This one is not for money. It's just a, it's like a national tournament, right? The national tournament. It's it do this to take your well. What do you qualified to get to Denver? Well, so there's like this National League, right? And then so under the National League or the little local leagues and depending on how you did last year in this tournament, like you can allow your group, your city, your region is allowed certain number of teams and certain number of divisions a. b. c. now..

"And I wouldn't be totally uncomfortable saying he might be the quarterback of the future, but they've already, they've made the decision. They've invested in darnold and it's the right thing to do. I'm not saying otherwise, but I think Bridgewater is pretty good. So do I give them around? I feel the same way I would keep telling your all the injuries to quarterbacks. I would absolutely keep. Teddy Bridgewater water on the roster, at least for this season. We'll get to the diner in just a second, but greenie tiger came out and said, you're big golfer, you'll love golf. The way I do tiger came out and said one of his best years ever this year. I understand why he saying that even without winning a major championship, he was close to the final two. I've been on vacation for a while and he's so put me. They're put me wherever Mike Greenberg was Sunday final round PGA tiger having his best fight around ever to major, put me there screaming and the British Open was just as good. And the thing about this guy is he makes the valve Spar feel like the Ryder Cup, and he made Sunday at the PGA which is the fourth and least appreciated major championship feel like the Super Bowl. It felt like the entire world stopped and paid attention because he is the biggest and most watchable star in sports today. And there is something about this year. I understand what he's saying. There is something about this year that has been remarkable to watch. And obviously it hasn't been what he was at his apex when he won the. The Tiger Slam and actually held all four major championships at the same time. But I understand why he would say this because this is something we never were gonna get. Again. This was over you and I would have both. I'm sure we had this conversation. You and I over the course of time that will never see tiger again, being playing in a meaningful way in anything, much less major, much less having a chance to win one. And and I tell you what I believe he will win a major championship next year. And I think that if an when he does let the conversation about Jack Nicklaus start again, the stuff that we saw from him on that Sunday at the PGA was the stuff of magic that guy missed as many fairways as you do on a regular days to God's and he was five under par. So he that that was a magical round of golf, it was. It was vintage Tiger Woods, and it was probably need to give it some thought here. But I think it might have been the most exciting event that I saw in sports in two thousand eighteen. We did have that conversation by the way on the golf course. I said, tiger win. Another major. I did that while sandbagging. My handicap to beat you. It's a frustrating day. Yes, indeed it was. I love it. When I shoot eighty three and lose. Listen, Listen, I I got gotta to be be. honest. I gave my handicap in the blues. I showed up, you wanna play from the whites, and I didn't just my handicapping. That's on you. I I don't know what the diner last time you were in a diner greedy..

"You have your diner questions. You have napkin question for greenie. You have those ready is sure. Okay, great. We'll talk jet football as well. Greenie joins us right now. Hello? Eight colors. Good morning. How are you? We are. We're doing okay. How are you. I'm excellent. I'm sitting around basking in the notion that you wanted to have me onto talk jets football on this day. I think that is very exciting. Well, listen Dan's away. Otherwise, we could never pull this. Don't get me wrong. I don't wanna talk jets anything with you or otherwise list greedy. I the reason I wanted to have Janas because will Cain is making this big deal, and he seems puzzled by the fact that he's asking the question will jet fans boo after four games at the jets, get off to a one in three start and Sam darnold doesn't play well, and I said four games. We won't last four possessions. We'll start booing them then if he's not playing well greedy, can you explain the best way you can what? It's like to be a jet fan and you agree with me that we will boo inside of four possessions if darnold not very good. Well, I hope that that this is part of the reason that I have been all along on record as saying, I don't want him to play immediately. Description of being a jet fan that I would offer is imagine having someone reach into your heart, pull your heart out, throw it on the floor, stomp on it, then pour gasoline on it, set fire to it. That's pretty much how it feels to be a fan of the jet. They're not the worst franchise in sports. They're not just always terrible. But what they are is they find the most excruciating ways to lose when they have an opportunity throughout my lifetime. And so you have those moments of just despair and and excruciating pain. Now, having said that, let's get to the second part that was well set by the way greenie. Listen, I just say, I go a lot shorter. Then I simply hate being jets fan. But anyway, go ahead. Yeah, I, my father who was was a wonderful father voice said he had to bad qualities. One was that he just waited me from playing golf as a kid. And the second was we saddled me with this fandom. So so as far as the rest of it is concerned, Josh mccown is there for a reason, right? Josh mccown is on the jets and being paid ten million dollars this year. And as I frequently said, he shouldn't have a number on his jersey should have a bridge. There should literally be a bridge on his jersey because that's exactly what he is. He is the perfect bridge quarterback and he should be the quarterback. I'm not one hundred percent convinced that teddy Bridgewater isn't a really, really good quarterback to a sitting there on the roster, but I believe they should trade him because I think that there will be value in trading him. And clearly the future of the jets is going to be Sam darnold. And that brings us to him. I don't think they should be doing anybody because I don't think he should be playing. The kid is twenty one years old. He left two years of college eligibility on the table in college, and I think that it is the smartest thing to do is to bring him along the jets are not going to win anything of consequence of this year. Regardless of what happens. So the most significant thing they can accomplish this season is developed a quarterback. And if you. Throwing them out there week one when he ac- nothing. But for Nella looks and all this kind of stuff to struggle and get booed and get hit. A lot is a good idea than than than that's what they should do. But I don't think it's a good idea. They should play Josh mccown for a while and then bring the kit in when he has had some time to be more ready. And when all things that you might be thinking about a season have been lost, which is to say Faneuil boo, because we're one in three. But if the jets are two and seven and then put him on the field, then everyone will just watch it for what it is meant to be, which is the development of a young quarterback. So I'm not in favor of playing him week one regardless. I think they shouldn't do..
