"So. You're going to have to ask us to come in your defense and fight for on your behalf and with you and your side. Care about. So. I applaud the brother for stepping out there like that, but at the end of the day you know I, know and Roger, or hey, you know everyone does business knows that NASCAR has an image of being full of racist and having a confederate flag is a big part of that and the reality is that the CEO O. is going to have a choice between standing with the people who says black lives, matter and staying with people wearing those damned flags because they're the. The one. That's not just helping the business. They are the business and I don't feel good for the NASCAR CEO because you have the choice between Vini, CEO, of a sport or being the CEO of racism, and that is a real hard place to be, but that's where he's at and proud of bubba wallets, stepping out there like that in that environment to say things that he said you know their brothers driving a car that says black lives matter in the next rates. All Black and says black lives matter. Come on now. That's a brave brave. Play of what you believe in look at the response from some of these drivers that are richer before there was a one of these responses that was yeah. Of course we should get rid of it I. It's way overdue. Yes, it should go. It was a whatever NASCAR is deciding all roll with that I mean this is not like you said. These are not a bunch of the other drivers and teammates and managers, and all these other. Yes, he's right. This should go because they know. That that is a very small side of the aisle. and. You're right. The bubble wall succesion that he took the car that he's going to drive this this upcoming race. He's out there and the question is. How alone is he because it certainly feels like there's not a lot of people on his side. Tyson theory has weighed in on his upcoming fights and it's great. You'll hear it next on the morning. "Morning Mike good morning David Dr strong what is contact tracing now we're hearing that term a lot and how can that help well actually this is a a type of public health action the reviews for many many decades with other traditional infectious diseases particularly sexually transmitted diseases in some cases when individuals have been exposed to people and things like bacterial meningitis and so forth and it's an attempt to identify all those people who may have been exposed through whatever route the diseases transmitted as so that they can number one if they are set to become sick and seek appropriate treatment immediately or in some cases just to test them to see if they've been exposed this is a truly novel approach for use in a vote of an infectious disease transmitted by just breathing largely respiratory transmission route and so there's still a lot of questions to be answered about how this might be used and how it might be effective Dr Ostro you address this before on the show but I bring it up because it was a lead story last night on the national news and I just started here again on CBS news so that was the head of the CDC is warning that the worst of the corona virus pandemic may be yet to come what are your thoughts on that yeah this is really not new news it's amazing how somebody can sometimes get picked up again the new revelation is upon us and as you know we've been talking about this for some time best right now probably no more than five percent of the US population has been infected with this virus and so as a result that means ninety five percent of those are still susceptible to it that's important because of the fact that this will virus will keep spreading in the general public Intel probably sixty five or seventy percent are infected men will reach a stage where the transmission be reduced because of so many Indian people in the population we're a long ways from that number and so how we're going to get there is really unclear whatever we do to suppress this virus and we keep talking about you know the ideas of trying to flatten the curve and what we can do in terms of distancing is going to be with us we're going to have to deal with this virus and so the challenge is to understand how that might happen it's like a previous flu epidemic the kind of situation where we know that the virus sometimes rises in the community drops for some reason which we're not sure they come back into the big wave three to six months later and that's what Bob Redfield was talked about last night in terms of the CDC's position on those and we agree that this could be one work transmission just continues to been slow burn and we're just going to constantly be fighting it it may be somewhat disappear like this somehow we did to make it go away and then suddenly come back with the big waves and several months or maybe a whole series ways justice to curse the curse but the key messages and following one we're gonna have a lot additional cases of this infection before we're done number two is the fact that it is going to last for months and that's what people I think don't yet understand they generally think that once we get out of this current we flatten it and we get through this time period that we're trying to hold free and as I said before on the show we're just really in the second inning it most of this game Mike I was also curious on something I read last night on U. S. health regulators yesterday approved in the first the corona virus test that's gonna let people collect their own sample at home it was interesting to me is initially only going to be available to health care workers and first respondents under doctor's orders what we know about that tests and how important something like that B. well first of all you know we have right now well over forty five different tests out there in the public for testing for the virus in at least another ninety for testing for antibodies many of these tell us really provide as little to no additional information because of the fact that they aren't available to license to recruit but that we're having major shortages right now the kind of chemicals was that we need to run these tests recovery agents and so just because somebody else something license approved doesn't mean it will be available we've had other test kits come forward that were approved and there was a lot of fanfare about them and then months later they're still not even available the second thing we have to be very concerned about is a lot of these tests are given us very bad results we can find for example is testing for the virus that is high is fifteen to twenty percent of the tell us give us a false negative when you're really positive when you test for antibodies in a low problems population meaning we're less than five percent of the people expect to have it up to half of all the positives we get are actually false positives meaning you're not really positive so you know everyone is really climbed on board to testing answers and there surely are important reasons why we need to have tests and a certain kind of tell us we need but I just caution everyone were were about to hit I think attesting concurring correct here soon both in terms of an ability to get testing but when it is done the interpretation of and how it's used I think is going to be really challenging any thoughts on the southern states opening re opening you know at this point we have to understand that unlike public policy unlike all kinds of human influenced actions virus transmissions out like taking on hurricanes or earthquakes or tsunamis mother nature and physical laws are going to take over this virus is going to continue to move in so if you're in an area where you still have substantial transmission and it hasn't subsided and you open up everything again I guarantee you you're going to see a major increase in new cases and so I think the you know you as the old oil frame commercially used to say you can pay me now or pay me later I think that these early openings is premature openings we don't have evidence that the activity has been in any way suppressed are going to see very rapid spread and then I think you know the policy makers will end up one day being held accountable for you know how they made the decisions why they made the decisions and what the prevailing data were and I I can tell you right now that states like Georgia I think they're headed for a train wreck any any news on your latest piece for The New York Times yeah it's actually it's in the works right now it means it's it's coming out here shortly thereafter so backed up on the testing so I hope next time we talk you'll you know we'll talk about it well the great my calls appreciate your time thank you so much good to talk to you thanks a lot take care Dr mark Michael Stroman infectious disease epidemiologist regents professor at university also as you know director of the center for infectious disease.

"Trainer mike stidham who has a very busy night ahead of him. He has seven horses entered on this colonial downs program starting with the first maiden special weight going all the way through to the grade three new kent county virginia derby and he is with us now here on the equine forum mike good morning and happy virginia derby day hey morning. Thanks for having me your going to be a busy night for you. <hes> you know the sensational philly and the virginia oaks and then credit swap he actually have to in the virginia oaks. You you have to the kitten's joy. <hes> how you gonna keep it all straight my man well we got. We got good help over here. The horses arrived early this morning and <music>. I'm actually at the barn now. Everybody's shipped well so we're <hes> we're hoping for a big evening. You've got <hes> tasting tasting the stars. Who's of virginia brad. That's gotta be pretty cool you. You've been getting a lot of attention for that. Yeah <hes> there's been a couple of guys by the bar and wanting to take pictures pictures of her and <hes> you know hopefully she's going to be a a good representative for <hes> state virginia. You know mike she so versatile to we'll start with the ladies first during the virginia. Okay we'll start with the star of the show so to speak tasing stars who is probably gonna go post. What is the favorite. She's so versatile <hes> she's one as i mentioned going long on the dirt earlier this year at the fairgrounds dense comes comes back in turf debut in wins impressively that day what's what's impressed you most about tasting stars well. I mean the bottom line with tasting. The stars is she's. She's very talented and very athletic. Athletic and her dam was successful on on both services so when we came off a little a little bit of a layoff off from february to july we were looking for a spot for her and there really wasn't a good dirt option at that time <hes> and so we just decided that <hes> you know it was time to go ahead and test the grass and <hes> she went out there and did or thing and ran really well how on on that surface just like. She did on the dirt so she. She's one of those horses that <hes> you know seems like she'll run on just about anything. Was that a little scary to run on the turf awfully yeah it certainly was. I mean you know anytime. You're you're trying something new with these sources. You never know how it's going to go into. You actually get out there and do it. You can make all the predictions you want in the world but bottom line is they gotta go out there and show up and and get the job done and she did just that so <hes> certainly her winning. That race is giving us. You know the confidence to come back in a race like this tonight. It's been one of the hallmarks of your career not afraid to take a chance. If you think you can win the race you just go ahead didn't do it. You don't worry too much about what people think are. Are that type of thing but yet your horses are are very consistent run through their conditions and you do things the right way but you're not afraid to step out so to speak well. We've always believed that <hes> you know if you've gotta talented horse <hes> and there's a race <hes> wherever it may be if if it's real within reasonable shipping distance and you can get them there safely <hes> it's worshiping i shipping and and taking a shot <hes> in different spots around the country and that's you know we've been lucky to be successful in doing that so <hes> with colonial down reopening this year having a presence in the mid atlantic with the enabled at fair hill and mom it made sense to <hes> you know come here

"There's any bit of impatience for that. It'd be there's no game that counts until April. I it really, you know, maybe March ended March whatever but the time to build rosters. How how the pace of the off season is different every year. And it's where David you trust David to to use the processes that. He's put in place. You can add meaningful players that anytime. I personally very happy with kind of where we're sitting right now. And where we go into spring training. There will be new players throughout the course of the season. They'll be challenges throughout the course, season players that we don't expect will emerge that we don't talk about throughout the course of the season. So that's what we know. That's going to happen. But we're we're we're we're sitting right now, I think we're going into a really strong place last season. I'd have to look back, and I did not do the research. But I can't imagine. There are many teams that have been within one game of the World Series that had one starting pitcher with double digit wins. It's gotten to the point Craig Ron, I'm almost less interested in. I don't mean a respectfully less interested in who the starting pitcher is and more interested in who the second guy is and what he's going to come into a game. I think what what happened last year almost changed people's thoughts on how to view how pictures are used and where infielders are used and it went from boy they're going to burn out the bullpen to Mike good is what brilliant use of the bullpen. And is that is that difficult. I mean or are the numbers really driving? You to say this is the point in the game. When we have to pick a starting pitcher out, regardless of where he is in terms of pitch count. Yeah. There's a lot of questions there. I think. First of all our usage of pitching really in September in the playoffs. We won't look like that in April. The pitching it September. There's different rules. We're we're really.

"Mike good to speak with you today. Thanks for coming on the show. Thank you. So controlled environments hi-, guess you also have teenage daughter, I do as a matter. Well, we will go there. You know, what let's let's get ready to tell me a little bit about yourself and your background in IOT. I got my starting in electrical engineering doing all kinds of product design for 'em type connectivity. Typically somewhere in some part of the industrial world in by industrial. I basically just mean non-consumer, but from their rules, and engineering and business development, some technical marketing and product management. I've always been really fascinated with the interface between people in technology. So that that's my most fun. And when when has what you're doing been called internet of things, boy, it this whole IOT thing is just gone explosive over the last twelve to eighteen months. Really? Okay. That's when that's when you've seen is that been the biggest shift for you. That's when it's like, you're starting to identify yourself as an IT guy. Now is that possible? I think it's the market starts to kind of brand you that way. Whether that's not a great term in in so many ways, but it's becoming so hyped that I think it's starting confused people a little bit, frankly. Yeah. No, I agree. It kind of has a lot of meanings. But, but it sounds like from a commercial point of view, your organization BNB is focused on on commercial industrial infrastructure is that is that fair we've always done machine to machine connectivity. So we've millions of pieces of hardware out there that are connecting everything from in in utilities spaces, factory automation, process automation, warehouses buildings vehicles, all kinds of kind of down and dirty edge of networks things things are messy. It's just a different environment than the IT closet. Yeah. Yeah. And now, I guess I'm what I'm reading into what you're saying is in the last twelve to eighteen months M to M has wanted to to kind of reach outside world and be connected to to that internet that Interweb of the internet of things. Think it's really fascinating. Dynamic going on. And I think it's a combination of a number of things one is obviously the technology. So there isn't some pivotal event that happened in less twelve months said while some nothing just got invented. Now, we can have internet of things realize we headed for a long time. But the technology is giving more cost effective. So that's that's one piece of it things that USA cost a fourteen to do or not much easier. Both at a hardware level where the lawyers law and all that stuff keeps kicking in and we can get these these great modern electrics type devices, but there's also a nights. I also at the software platform level to be a platform service provider ten years ago, and do some sort of web based platform had a pretty high barrier. Tintri were today, it's a minimal barrier to entry thing that I think is interesting is there's a cultural shift as well. So all of us have been retrained under these new generations of engineers were used to having amazing mounts of connectivity in our pocket was smartphones. And things that we wouldn't have. Even considered a decade or two ago in the industrial and the plant for also the the consumer world has influenced greatly in what in our vision of what can be done. Yeah. No. That makes sense. I think you're right. The new generation sort of looks at their phone can connect to my Bank. Why can't I connect up to my? I dunno my factory or whatever the case may be. Well, listen before we get into this more wanna I wanna learn a little bit more about you..

Like, you won't you won't come out and fight. Yeah. Okay. I will say all the people that had like the snake? Coming back someday is a bad day for them. Yeah. I think I was in that camp. Yeah. Yeah. That was in that camp. Does feel like a great day. No. I I definitely no I well. No, actually, I think I phrased that the story has not the the final chapter of the story is not been told. So I was right on that. You're right on that right on that the chapters are gonna be a clean like we're just moving on. So yeah. Yeah. It it for for very little for very, I I don't know if a very little for guys don't know, this has been as cryptic of show as we've ever done because everybody's you know, to the book, it'll be great when the book comes out, and all this makes sense. I can see how it's confusing with all the moving pieces won't it's also confusing. When it's people who are it's one thing when it's like Nate verse. Smitty, it's not it's a little different when it's someone who no one knows about is not a front facing person. You're not going to like go crazy about that. And it's just feel like that's been a huge contributing factor to your constraint right now. Dave is that like you? It is on the radio. You're not sure what you should say. Or shouldn't say, well, it's a combo on the guy the guy we just like, oh, it's been with me before here. Yeah. I mean it which is still the shocking bar? I'm never like I got a call him tonight. But the last time I spoke with him. I believe everything you're saying until I was presented with facts just made it and. Possible to believe. Maybe that's what the new tech people wanted. You think Hank woke the worst part is it's tax. It could be fucking. All comes back to tech. It always has this place. I won't be surprised if Faulk in what's his face was somehow involved in this rank eight. Oh, yeah. Yeah. I I heard he bought like thirteen pallets of fruity of fruity, drink interesting. It is interesting. Dan is interesting all start in two thousand it started. The dub Ness was the beginning. Yeah. It was. It was. Oh, along conned into like, my brain. Yeah. I anybody who's ever had a single proved that they've been doing this forever. If we delete all their old logs. Didn't invent the internet. Anybody who's ever had a sip of a drink? It was a mistake. Stay away from that shit. You just have to. I think it's too risky feel like it's way to risk. Yes. Social anything to. Yes. I mean, I'd say there's like really a chance where in that business like with insects. I'm dead serious say there is a really good chance where in that business and women it hard. End up coming out on top. Then can I try the fruity dress? Oh, Oh, yes. yes. Barstools? All right. We're going to do part of my take.

Well, we'll have a high this afternoon of eighty three degrees. And then for tonight under mainly clear skies. Temperatures will fall to low of sixty five overnight tonight, not too cool. And that's I will happen to be a little bit of patchy late night fog as well. We head into tomorrow. Well, it's an even warmer day on joy, plenty of sunshine on Sunday temperatures will climb to high of eighty five degrees for us on Sunday. But then we may see a little bit of the remnants of Florence on Monday night into Tuesday. Yes, there might be a shower around during the afternoon on Monday, high eighty degrees, but it's Monday night into Tuesday where we're going to see the remnants of flori- moving through our area bringing us the potential for some heavy rainfall perhaps some flash flooding. It will be a fairly quick event. I think as we get into the afternoon on Tuesday. They'll just be some lingering showers around high seventy six degrees. All righty. So then things will be okay for the rest of the week. I think so I think as far as Wednesday goes a dry day with sunshine returning a high of seventy five degrees.
