"End it's a bad but but there is always a start in a good. And i don't know what that is and i have no idea and i'll probably try to read to find out if anybody can answer it but it just like you've got this you've had ends and you've had beginnings so you don't have to fear some end that's coming because there's going to be fifty ends before that so it just like everything is a cycle and you gotta try to stay on top of the wave instead of getting caught up in it because it's it's scary but you've got it like everybody listening you've got you've got. You're a human. You woke up today you're alive. You're not going to do everything right. But you're gonna do stuff right or wrong and it's cool but don't stop like thinking about how you can grow in all the ways you can grow in your head in your career anything it's like. We focus so much on growth in our career. It's like grow as a person and then you'll know where to go in your career. You're wondering what's next it's like. Well what's what's happening right now. What's going on in here right now. Data let you know what's next you don't have to be like why i don't know i get their six different options. Which one's the best like nobody knows. And that's the thing that always frustrates me sometimes about myself. It's like. I'll say those things. And i know that they're true. And then i you know and then you don't act like again like what you just talked about is like i saw for years like and i said this on the last day of a golic and wingo just barked tears all over a microphone. You know with my family. All sitting there was. I got to watch for years. My dad always had a very clear line of all right when we got to high school. Me and my brother were playing high school football games on the weekend. My dad said. I'm not going to miss this so he'd been calling college football games. He's like i don't do this anymore. And part of that was our at the radio shows while enough to where he can do that and he had the the you know the good fortune to be able to make that choice but part of it was also a decision to say. All right i. I know the things that i'm not to miss. I know the things that are still at the center of all this. Like you said where it feels like grow grow grow career. And it's like no like i've got these other parts of me. That i need to make sure feel how important they are. And so i i again. I've seen that lesson for so long but just kind of reminding myself to limit is also a very different thing. Yeah thinking through how. They arrived at the thing that they say to. You is the value because the thing they say to you if you just hear it it's gonna mean something it's gonna make sense to you but it's not you're not gonna have arrived at it you're going to have just like woken up there and it's hard to a fish doesn't know it's in water so it's like you have to enter it to know like oh i get it now instead of being like. Oh he said it to me. So i know it. It's like no you just drove past a building. Go inside of it figure out how that building was built. And then you'll know it. I ask you what you were fascinated by you said ted lasso and yet we still are back here in the depths of drying to figure out what philosophy is instead of shutting up in reading. I have no idea what i'm doing. But i just know that i enjoy doing it with you. I know but i. I think that's why i was so excited to come out here because i kind of figured this is how it's going to go because any time i've consumed anything that you've made it's like all like this ends up just becoming a couple of friends kind of getting the chance to sit and quite frankly like this is also stuff that like. I am going to finish this podcast whenever it happens. And i'm gonna like. I always get post potting zaidi because i don't work in pods that ended but like it's such an inviting space to share and like to get like. There's also not a lot of people quite frankly that i could talk about the stuff with and that would have so much to offer in the way that you have in this conversation and so like getting the chance to do that is like cathartic for me like hearing. All of this is like all right. Like i've got some things that i can take away and go with it. And that's why like that's why people love what you in ashley. Built there in that this podcast and i'm sure that's why the love whatever this becomes because like you said you can do whatever you want now and it's been very valuable to me already just sitting on here because again. There aren't a lot of opportunities to do this. And i really appreciate. You are willing to do it. Because i realize like i come up with this idea. Like have a really deep conversation with michael junior and then i'm like katie. Not everybody wants to have a deep conversation publicly because of the thing you said postponing zaidi when it goes out. And you're like did i say something so dumb. Did i forget to check myself on something. But it's like i i. The goal here is like we're we're just asking questions. People were just asking the question. Okay so like. don't try to cancel. Its like knowing that if the if you get back what. I've tried to welcome it in. I've tried to be like it are you. Is this person correct. And if they are guess what you win. 'cause you to not be that again you get to learn that lesson so like irish this so much if something happened and i messed up and lead you down a bad path. I will have your back when anything happens. It's like just got all just be honest with each other and let let everybody know what we're thinking and what we think we know and like you said like maybe maybe someone hears this again me just hearing you. I'm like oh like i hadn't thought about that. That's something to think about if that happens for one person because of this. What a cool thing that happened there. Sounds like blah blah blah blah blah like. That probably means you're in a place where you don't need to hear it. So that's i'm sorry. I'm sorry but we do to a week now so there will be something that you like in the other pod. Maybe but if this can help you if you let it help you. Then that is so cool to me. If anybody's like man. I feel so much better than like. That's awesome because i want to feel better actually feel better. If other people feel better like the anxiety of the way people interact with each other now was weighing on me. It was like.

"It that way. And so continuing to try and overcompensate and always being a guy that was an undrafted free agent that got cut a bunch of football like it. Is that thing where it's like. If i'm not doing something you start to feel uncomfortable because you feel like you should be and honestly one of the people i credit with me like especially in the last couple of months realizing that is meena because of my head. I'm like i hope he says meena. Just because like i watch and when i look at like what it's supposed to look like and someone who i know works their ass off in his so talented and does all these things like it's meena and then like the other day. I text her about like you know. I finally watched ted lasso. And she texting because howard. You just now watching this. And i'm like all right so me know who is the hardest working most accomplished person i know at one of them can go out and do all of this and make time to feed the other parts of her life that she likes shirley i can like humble pig can try and make that happen right which is funny because it feels like so many times. I've looked at mina been like it's easy to say like what a superhuman she is superhuman. She's not built like me. I'll never retain football knowledge. The way she does in what i've realized now is like it's easy to look at that. Feel bad but then i realized that it's like the she follows what drives her. Don't try to be meena figure out what the thing that in menas brain makes her go. Gimme those numbers. Give me this analysis like talk to me about offensive. Line's my brain. Doesn't have that for those things but it has that for other things so it's like take that lesson for meena. Meena can find time to watch all the stuff she does because she's made the other parts of her brain very efficient on the other stuff. She does so. She works quick. And then she knows to give yourself a break which is the brilliance of meena. The thing that i thought was so amazing about her wasn't that she knew stuff. I didn't know it was that she knew stuff. I also had access to in my brain. And she was applying her knowledge to what she loves and i was being like home. The last few months mike watching sports i. I had a very hard time. Admitting this myself. I didn't want to watch them and i was like what is up in the first thing. My brain thought was like everyone's right. You're a fraud. You don't even like sports. And then i was like that sounds untrue to me still. Don't know that. I love sports. So what's going on. And i realized it was because i was for some reason confused and thought that if i watched sports that the path for me now because of the the failing i was doing which is an. I'm not trying to make anybody feel bad for me. I wasn't getting to where i wanted to be in. Things kept being taken away. And i'm like i. I keep thinking i'm not doing anything wrong or i can figure out what i'm doing wrong because stuff keeps leaving and i don't know why so. Let's figure it out. And i just. I realized that i didn't i was watching sports and feeling like i needed to save the things that meena was going to say about them. I to figure out how to be meena and then it was like no you. Don't you love watching sport for what you love them for. And that's what makes you worth talking like. That's why anybody needs you. They don't need another meena. They need somebody who's gonna who's good with meena who complements meena who helps meena and who meena helps. That's the whole point of the game. And now i'm like god i can't wait. Wait to watch a game. Like i unlocked it. Finally and i felt so much better. Because i was like. Oh my god what's happening. Why do i feel this way. It is that's one of the tough things that comes like. We have a lot of really talented friends right like we have a lot of people that we work with it. Like are incredibly good at what they do and that pressure to say all right. I need to be that. Because i see that being rewarded. When it's just it's just what you said. And it's the same kind of thing that i settled in on a while ago which is all right. I know the things that are unique to me. How do i just put those out there. And then either like at some point and it goes back to the be yourself. Thing is at some point. Everyone can get this information so much of it is out there now. Like they're they're either going to stick around because they like hanging out with you or not and so all i can do at this point and just what you describe. All i can do is say all right. I'm a lean into the stuff that is unique to me that i can do really well that i can bring to the table. And if people don't like that then they're gonna fire me. And i'll figure it out like i'll figure it out you know i i i've i've kinda gotten to that point where it's like all right like again. I'm not smart enough to go out here and try and be somebody else and that's not rewarding in any way so it's i'll do the best impression of me that i can do. And if that's not enough they can fire me. And i'll figure out what the hell i'm supposed to do. Which again is the comfort. I want to make sure we know. We know that it's not like i'm just going to go to my job myself. And then i'll figure it out it's like that is a huge privilege that i have learned to be grateful for because all this time people are like be grateful for what you have i was like. Yeah i hear ya. But i don't think i did. I don't think. I heard like it took my boyfriend. I hate to keep referencing him. But he's the only person i've seen in a year and he is the best.

"They should just break away right. Yeah i mean the nc double a.'s involving with fps has decreased exponentially over the years in that. They're not organizing the sport. They're not you know coming up. With what the postseason is going to look like. It's you know we have this. We have bowls we have the data. The college football playoff. excuse me. And the instability is there to enforce eligibility rules and so college. Football has obviously grown to an astronomical places compared to other sports the nc double as big cash cow is the ncaa tournament. That's that's where they make their money now with regard to major college sports so i should say w tournaments in basketball so i i suppose it's something that we've been talking about for a long time. It's just also one of those things were just like. We're getting away from fully explaining why there's a college part of college football if the college sports governing body has literally nothing to fit. So i i mean it's one of the great and attractive and strange inconsistencies about college football which helps to make it great but Yeah it opens up interesting kanza worms. The night commission more to come on this show the night commission the commission in the night commission. That's all i got in the way of news. Reseda often enough. It sounds better and better. That's all i have to all right. Dan joining us dow it's espn college. Football analysts well known sports personality and the host of the fan exam. Which we're going to talk a little bit about here today. Mr mike golic sir. How are you. I'm doing well. How are you fantastic. We're doing well. Yeah so we want to start off. By talking about the fan exam we at the beginning of the pandemic. Dan and i would kind of make it a daily thing where we would go live twitter. We would pull somebody onto our show or onto our stream. Your son was one of those individuals and we would just play kind of like. I don't know a scrap together trivia game you are now hosting a trivia game twelve questions per game talk a little bit about the game and exactly what this entails. Well i i'm on the right side of it because i'm sure my son was horrible. A trivia and however bad he was. I'm ten times worse. I am horrible. Just like when i studied for tests in school the minute i took the test i forgot the content and i just moved on. That's kind of like my sports career. I was playing and playing and playing it. I didn't know so much about the trivia. But i was approached to do you know it was kinda like the scott i always. I always forget how to pronounce his last name again. Hq trivia. i used to play that all the time we all. Did you know ten questions or whatever was twelve but if you got it wrong were gun while this was great because a it was sports was college sports. See even if you got it wrong you've got to keep plant and there were prizes attached to itself. So i've seen all i had to do was be able to read which i've been doing for a couple of decades now on air. It's all i had to do is read in front of a camera. Which at times isn't easiest thing in the world and and have some fun. You know moxham people got some answers. Wrong congratulates the people who says right. So it's very cool. The biggest difference is like we're all doing now. Like i'm sure you guys are doing and everybody's doing you're doing it from home. You know the last three months of of and wingo were in my basement. We had the studio set up there so that is turned into the studio for this. I've done some hits for cnn and that same room is turned into the studio for cnn. So it's just a it's a makeshift room. That you put a camera and you put some lighting in and you ask them questions. It's a lot of fun. I mean we're getting a lot of people involved in it. Like i said you get some college rivalry going so i'm having a good time with it. What is the number one tip. You have for people now working from home. What is what is the big hack. You've discovered that has major life better slash easier. Well i number one. You gotta have really good wifi unless you're up by ethernet you know you better have some good wifi. That's number one. You're going to get choppier or go off so so unless you're hooked up you know you're hardwired you'd better have some good wi fi if your tv you better. I don't care what i look like but my wife wants to say. She's married to somebody who's halfway good-looking. So make sure you have some good lighting now. I'm looking at you and any love. Horrible lighting. 'cause you look horrible. I just beautiful soft lie. I just had to say it. But i know i you know i remember that lightning renting now awful. Yeah yeah so you're going to be on. Yeah on camera the lighting ring. And if you're you're going to be air anywhere anywhere have good wifi so smart tie gopher what do you have i was just gonna say there are two more weeks of the game remaining. Oh yes shows. on december. The eighth tenth fifteenth in the seventeenth. I have in front of me. So what is it like actually being the host of a trivia show as compared to a lot of the other stuff. You've done in your broadcasting career. Well i love it. Because i was so excited when they approach me. Because it's different. I've done you know after playing football. I've done a lotta things from tv to radio a lot of different things. But i've never hosted a trivia game show. So i i really liked to kind of try some different things out there and this was fun and i think one of the best things about it is. It is different but after each question. When i give the right answer i give a little factoid about which and i see. The question is a few hours before the show. Just a proofreading over. We all go over to make sure. Everything's factually correct. But i love the little factoid after the answer those hanley cool. That's a lot of stuff. I never knew and i thought man you know what when things you know. Get back to. Normal people can take some of these factories and go in a bucket. The bar somewhere. Any ex- pretty good information. So i use the term factoid because we are going to play a game with you you are now going to be the subject. You've already said that. You are terrible at trivia. That's okay because we have a forgiving audience. The questions are very dumb. And because i i liked the name of your show the fan exam but right now we are examining you and so i have decided to call this show because we're all men of a certain age. The goal in us skopje. Are you okay with that name. The goal in ashkenazi. Yeah absolutely a little bit worried. It goes to a strange place. But i'm good with it. Okay this is a place. We all need to go at some point. sure absolutely. We're all taking that voyage so here. Here's how the game works. I have five categories. We're going to ask you five questions and we're gonna ask you follow up questions that perhaps more to do with you more have to do with college football whatever. Some of these are college. football questions. The categories we have a mike category. We have a category. We have a lick sarah. I'm going with this. We have a fan category and we have an exam category so mike go lick fan exam. You tell me where we're starting of those categories not start with the lick rate. Call here we go for no dollars no sense there's a famous tootsie pop ad campaign about the number of lick. It takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop. The question is asked by what kind of bird and you're there it is. I was going to give you a hint that there are three..

"Thank you for doing this before you begin I got to tell you the people are love you. Let me just say this that getting a trainer. On the first week of testing that's like any quarterback in the Middle Playoff I mean this is unbelievable. You know knows funnier didn't want man I got we're moving and shaking so you'd have ready. How crazy is this time for you? Real quick I actually got in today around around five thirty. This morning, we got physical physical guy guys coming with physicals today yet you're testing averaging about hundred ninety guys day of testing, turn the to you warranty to and players. Know got this huge testing regimen going on you're trying to not create this normalcy and obviously you gotta mitigation and and you know risk mitigation policies that we're trying to provide for these guys that people say ecosystem. So you know opening up front entry point and make sure that guys are you know because we're all bored them to shop near so you know we're trying to educate the all work. There's to come into the building and and so we're it's a railway, my man. Well, let me say this as we take this on Friday morning we see basketball is now underway Reggie and baseball you probably haven't even seen this had more setbacks more positive tests the Arizona cardinals butcher them tested positive the morning where or we will going forward and what do you think what are you expecting this upcoming season? Where you know. It it's hard to care right now. Obviously, you know this thing, the dynamic, a virus we're learning about it every day and you know right now our job is onboard all of our guys and really see how the process goes and see if we can be sustainable I am optimistic right now you know we're on boarding well, You know you haven't seen any use gloves yet and seems like with an NFL from what I see and so You know right now today I'm optimistic. Now every day you know Adam you. Never know 'cause is it is ever changing virus but I, do love that I feel like we've got best chance. Yeah. I really do think we've got a good policy and procedures in place it gives us our best shot to be successful. You know what's interesting to me is that a lot of people that I heard were negative. are more positive and upbeat now spoken to people around the league in their training facilities. And the common comments or that they feel safer there than ever before they feel like there's so much testing. So many procedures to go through that they believe the League is put into place the best possible. It could have to allow a season to happen if it will does that make sense at absolutely and and I couldn't agree more I really do think we've created a very safe ecosystem as people on board. You know I've been having educational components for players staff and I did one last night for all the family members of player staff and coaches and it's funny I get a lot of feedback after their education. A lot of the first thing say is I would actually say to sort at home. You know that's good feedback and they see all the things that were Dan truly trying to mitigate. Risk I would that we can eliminate this various grows try to mitigate as much as possible in terms of I'm spread and make sure we have good rapid treatment in place to take care of these guys and staffing coaches and all of us if they need to get it but you're right I think if it's early, we're GonNa have a really nice system in place, and our job is to try to make sure that we did the diligence out of the visibility but we don't bring that Vatican Reggie. It's hard enough to be a trainer in the NFL with all the injuries that go on. Can you even put a words right now? How much harder this virus makes your job this coming season and who knows how much longer going forward. at Belk that the new dot question, they're talking to a lot of my colleagues. A lot of us are taking on this ICO, which is an effective officer, and you're exactly right. It's it's a very big role. it is isn't a normal job not credited to the athletic trainers in you know in the NFL and taking on this role and they're gonNA excellent job and I it's just a credit I think to this profession and people to continue to take more more work and also I. Think the credit you could empowerment of the NFL and really allowing the athletic trainers. Take this role worker team physicians we've been on a lot of different committees. Procedures and policies, and I think it's just a medical credit to show without recession's really gone and we're in the importance of who we are in the world of sports on. It's just it's been an awesome experience. It's been a lot of rare but it's been awesome experience. How does somebody like yourself? Immersed himself in this virus and learn about how do you do that? Like I would imagine you didn't know a lot about covid nineteen before marks I or so. It exactly right You know they obviously, you gotta do your do diligence and reading and and make sure that you're getting a lot of You know good evidence based articles the best you can in terms of the type of testing. Learning about different things various to antibodies and you know autumn mitigations and procedures you gotTA do your homework. You know I was really fortunate to You know be on a lot of committees with the league this year in terms of for all the procedures and positivity may where they did at Athletic Training Representative there along with team physicians. Nfl Pa, reps and obviously. NFL affiliates and and I was really fortunate to you know learn a lot and we had a lot of really you know smart people in experts in sessions disease and really helped us You know guide this and that's why you feel really good about where we're at today and with the League because of this awesome job that Dr Shields Dot Com married to. "In training camps across the League are now underway though not in the way that we're used to seeing them the common refrain, the common common from coaches and front office members across the League is that this training camp is unlike any other training camp they've ever been through it's not training camp. It's more like a science experiment where temperatures are taken every day were blood tests. are taken on a regular basis where covert tests are administered and we wait to see how people avoid each other and wear masks and socially distance and try to stay safe as the virus brings down a sport in baseball in a way that football is trying to avoid. Now before football goes any further and it's put into place a number of protocols and systems to try to make sport as safe as possible to continue on the way basketball has in the bubble Daniel Landau. The fact of the matter is football is going to face inherent dangers that baseball already has that basketball won't because basketball is not traveling, and that's why I believe it's not too late for the NFL to make a radical change that I believe would contribute to help shaving the season and an answering the chances that it will go on and that would be this can sell radical abandoning the schedule. That's now in place for the twenty twenty season tolling it to next year. So make twenty twenty schedule that Howard cash NFL schedule maker or is together. And putting it aside till next year making it work for next year and implementing right now a new schedule that would basically. Kill most of the travel it would kill the East Coast and West, Coast Games and scheduled more division games in matchups of teams in close proximity to one another so that the teams could either take a bus. To, that game were fly in the morning of and not have to stay in a hotel the night before. So the AFC east and NFC West matchups that are supposed to happen this year, they'd be out the window, get rid of them. We'd have the Patriots and bills play all the time we got the eagles and steelers play all the time the Jaguars, and Buccaneers, and so on and so forth, it would reduce travel. It would decrease the chances of virus spread in any year that you are looking to do the right thing and to keep the sport alive this would go a long way towards doing that. Now, it's hard to imagine that the leak and abandoned schedule of put together all during off season in the first week in August and implement a new schedule at this point in time. But an interest of. Save the season and enhancing the chances that it goes on it's not too late to do that at a time where coaches across the League are sending the same message that players and that is this is on you. This is about being disciplined. This is about not going out at night and know the NFL is not a bubble, but it's in its own virtual bubble where the players are in the facility will be in the facility will be tested on a regular basis will be in a controlled. Environment until they leave, and that's where you don't know what happens. If they decide to go out if they decide to go do some sort of activity if they're around their own kids who have not been quarantining, that's where there is some risk that is inherent. In the way we live our lives breath NFL could adjust the schedule and I don't believe it's too late to do that as radical as it seems, it might help the chances of the season and it would basically reinforce the message that head. Coaches across the or delivering two players that turnovers aren't the most important thing in the twenty twenty season controlling the ball limiting mistakes aren't the most important factor in the twenty twenty season. The most important factor in the twenty twenty season is a players behavior and acting responsibly and courteously, and can professionally to your fellow teammate in man so that you limit the chances that everybody gets sick for weeks on this very podcast, we try to forecast the economic gloom that was coming in how would impact the NFL, salary cap in future years, and that has come to be where the salary cap floor next season one, hundred, and seventy, five, million dollars. But it will be lower than what was projected, and now we're trying to get out in front again and we're trying to be proactive and make such football can come off this year. We are asking the NFL to take a hard look at the schedule and to do the logical thing to realign now before it's too late. All right before we get to today's..

"About forty, and I don't know if my muscles have gotten bigger, but what happens is when you lose weight all of a sudden. They come a little more define. Yeah, you could see him better. BICEP separate quad works. I don't know if the muscles have gotten bigger, but I can see them now, and they're a little more defined so happy about, and maybe one of the biggest things I'm happy about is for the first time I life. I've grown a beard. I've never gone a beard in my life. This is a quarantine beard. I try to ask one time my wife lap. I shaved it off. This beard, she loves it I like it. I want good. It's grey and Brown I want my hair to turn white. The beer. Determine what I WANNA quite. That of the sexiest man right, it's young give. Zach easel little. Sean connery it looks Nice. It's a good look for you. I I do like I'm glad she likes it. All right so keyshawn Jay and Zubin the new the new morning show three new early birds. What is your best advice? After twenty four years for those guys I know, he has done radio in L. A. and I think morning radio so I, think he'll he'll. He'll understand the early part of it, but I did talk to Jay about it, he he called me and wanted to chat about it and I would say the same thing to Zubin is is while you get to see. The way, I would go about it as and you have to learn it only by doing it, it is a grind. It is four hours every day. Not just through your specialty of Hort. You know right around sixteen segments every single day twenty hours a week where you need to be somewhat odd, and I said the I think the biggest piece of advice I could give. To any radio host but that this is a morning, but anybody is. Let, people know who you are, you know don't just be this person that talks you from six to ten or ten to noon or whatever your time slot is, and then they go away. Let them know you. Let them in. Let them know who you are. Let them know about your family. Become kind of friends with them that I. would say is the biggest advice I I would give his is. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there. Yeah, radio is very community based. And people want to know you and they want to check in with you every day, because they because of you, and not just because of your opinions on on Sports, which is sometimes tough. If you do other gigs around the industry because you're told not to make it about yourself on, then you get to radio, and you realize a lot of ways you do have to sort of make it about yourself so that people choose you over every other voice person. They could hearing from so it's very good advice from you. Always so good to catch up always great to have you on. I won't bore you with my my tales of going from getting to work the commercial break. Set your shows in Chicago to then the first time I got to be a guest on the show. Oh, my Gosh, oh, my Gosh McNeil Mike and Mike. Senior. Amazing it certainly is you you a warm in the crowd up and talking to the brakes that? It is amazing situation with your and now now look what I get to do. It's going to come full circle. I hope to be a guest on Spain. Yup Yup well, you know you know both fits and I love you, so we'll wolfer. Sure have yawn but yeah, thank you so much for always just being a good dude and I remember even just showing up at Super Bowl parties. "We bought many many of his concerts, but through that. You know we've gotten to meet. Because, we'd have Kenny on. We'd have Darius on. There are other country guys that were forced fan, so they wanted to come on the show like a Luke Bryan Jason Aldean. Like that, so we're like. Wow, this is frigging. Who and when they come on talk to their manager. You get their number. Number on the entertainers or their manager, and then hey, anytime you want, and then when you're in that city or there until you can get tickets your backstage. All those are some of the great. We have gotten to see. We've got let me say we've gotten very spoiled at. How Nice it's been in how well we've been treated. The people have been very nice to us. I'm definitely the person when they like kind of you. KNOW HALF ASS on their way out. You know if you ever need anything, never think you're going to follow up on my Gabes. I absolutely will be needing things. Advantage of that. Do you have any weird sponsor moments you mentioned going like trying to hand stuff out and people didn't really care, but you have anywhere you. You're like I can't believe. I'm promoting this or this is A. An odd kind of thing. Not. Really there was a time when there were advertisers who wanted to put. Their products on our set. And I. Don't know was trying to find a way to monetize that, or could they not do it? The one the one most interesting one I would have loved. It was a steel chainsaw that. We're going to go down this road that there was gonna be a chainsaw on. To which then would've asked Greenie Joe me that you can start a chainsaw now? And of course you know a wouldn't have been able to be. If he did would've. It would've cut him somehow so. Yeah, we had. No Hands Guy Working on. Not. The, the role, we both play, but that was that almost came to be one of the weirdest things out there that. At times we did put some things on the set, but I really thought there was going to be a chainsaw on the set and I thought. That really would've would've been. The opening to something had redone something like absolutely Okay, you're you. You keep talking about Tony Bruno and before Tony Bruno. You were actually on Morning Radio in Phoenix before Tony Bruno and before Mike and Mike so since. Six you have been doing morning radio twenty four years almost as old as I am. Yeah and I'm curious what you think. The biggest lifestyle change will be after this Friday when you will not be up for morning radio for the first time in a quarter of a century I would say one of the things I'm very proud of is all those years I set one alarm and I never overslept for never missed the side of a show. When. There's only been in the industry a couple years, and he overslept and I woke up to a phone message from you. Hey, Sarah Meier exterior. We can't find junior I. "We found out a long time ago. We when we did contests the first contest we had one winner go to Hawaii, and then we decided. We want multiple winners for contest, so we took ten winners. NBA All Star Games. We took multiple winners everywhere, but those golf trips that were set up these last couple of years were incredible golfing at some of the greatest places taken eight ten people with us to golf with us, and just spending the weekend with them, and just hanging out, we had such a great one plan. We GonNa go to the Notre. Dame Navy game in Ireland. Wing Oil winners who went there? who were at the tailgate with US before the game? And then we're going to golf with US after the game obviously. But those have been some some incredible trips over the years. No doubt yeah, that was that was a definite perk of the job. Speaking perks of the job. How would you say you best milked the position? Obviously you can show up. Places and people know you and maybe get behind the scenes at concerts or whatever, but Is there a specific time when you were like man? I really This was pretty via Manali era. Use of my. The amount of things that certainly is against the Paola Back covers your way is incredible. One thing is though it is shirts and hats and food. Sometimes I'm like. Diamonds in the cars. That WANNA. Send along something up. What, but yeah, there's probably I would say the biggest thing I would do is especially when we were on. The road is bring me donuts if there was one food, I consume the most over these twenty two year at like Sarah brought food especially pastries to the shows, and I felt like I was an animal in a zoo. They just waiting for me. Eat It. You need the door. The donut was malls in l.. Perform. You know in eating the sweets that way. But that that's probably what I got the most. Let's a Lotta perks not about it right now. You know I'm a man who loves my doughnuts. Yeah, you're actually quite full. No, eat it exactly raving. Ensure US cloud. But I'm you know when I have guests on my podcast? Sometimes I feel like we're friends. After the hour conversation and you know I, WanNa, call them up and you know, go to their show or get tickets to something or do whatever so I imagine there's gotTa to be someone that you found out was a fan of the show or that. You're a fan of and you called an advanced to see if you get the hookup. I became a and this again was the was the. White House trip? Because the entertainer who played there was Kenny Chesney and again wall group, so we all got to mingle, and that's when Jacob I meant like our first country guy and it was, and we really fell in love with the country. Music and Kenny has been a great friend over the years..

"Said the dumbest thing or who deserve to be told to shut up, and then we had great production I mean productions or the morning show man I mean. Crazy and the production for that was fantastic and I think probably that was one of the most responses we will get people giving people that should win that award, and where lack along as even after we stopped doing it where people wanted that to return way before that Bob Cousy, who had worked with me SPN for years he did the updates, but he would come on air with us every now and then and we do a Bob because he did you nosy where Bob. And, he would ask a trivia question. We will get four listeners on the line, and if somebody one, we would go to Bob's desk and take something off Bob's desk and send it to him. Could equal you know it could be their trash. Can whatever so couple of things, but if I had a big one I think just shut up resonated the most with a lot of people. Yeah, what about at least favourite was there either a topic or a segment or a sport? That every time you're like okay I gotta get myself ready to do this. They didn't love well to me to me. Whenever politics crossed into sports. I'm just not politic guy. You know so. Nobody cares what my politics are quite. Honestly I don't care what others There are other stations I always say to go to listen to that. And that thing that I never wanted to do now there are times when it crosses over into the sports world where you have to talk about it, but in all honesty, it's the least favorite thing that that I like talking about, and and that's why I just love when sports are going on so there right? Proxima, is it because of the? Uncomfortable Ness of how will be received because it feels to me when those things come up that you have very thoughtful things to say about it, you don't see Mike someone who either shies away, or who is flippant or antiquated in your opinion on those things, so is it more than just? You don't want to deal with what the listener might be feeling. We're thinking during those segments no I. Don't I don't really think that I just think that it's an area like whenever I hear news channels trying talk sports I think we all kind of chocolate times. Right you're. Part of me even though I appreciate you saying sometimes I. Thoughtful and doing it I..

"So. Let's talk about the last time you were on here you did not expect tears during your last Mike and Mike it her before. You knew they were going to be some surprises. In. Whatever do you remember if you ended up tearing up during that last show? I did not tear up during the last. Three years ago. On the fortunately you know, it was certainly a little different onset at that point. It was it was it was in studio number one? They had some people there. Chair set up an audience, but the vibe was unfortunately a little different on the set at that point For what transpired your toward the end of Mike and Mike, there was part of me. That was obviously sad. It was over, but glad that it was over. You know what I mean. It Got Awkward Yeah Yeah Yeah this one. This one knowing it's completely over. My my wife is going to ball. She says she's not, but she cries at a commercial me to. The problem, so I I would imagine because you know. My son will be sitting here. The family will be here. I imagine it may get someone I I wouldn't be shocked. I would take probably the over try. Not Chang I really I'm going to try not to, but I am I'm GonNa. Take the over. There are going to be two guests in my last show that I wanted on possibly in the last hour, but for sure on the last show that I wanted on for sure. Just just to talk to one last time. And in those two I I look forward to chatting with a little bit with the family and then I'll try and hold it together, and then I'll I'll I'll hold up a sign. That said we'll work for donuts. Money That's good. A radio man right till the end. IT-IT's two guests that are coming up I. Let's talk about some of your favorite guests at what you to give away anything but Do you have folks that throughout the entire tenure?.

"Nobody thought we would turn in anything. We can make all our mistakes and kind of learn on our own a couple of years before it really of took off and one of the things we learn over that time when all of a sudden. Mike and Mike started doing well. Rating started going up on radio and TV all of a sudden. It's like Oh my God. Let's promote these guys a little more now. All of a sudden, a lot of cooks gained in a kid. You off more new. York talk more, Chicago, so you try different things, and then you just realize just put on a good show if what's coming out of. Of, the speakers is good. Then people will like it no matter what market they're in and the other battle, the battle I always lost, and to the end of the show I will lose An- anybody all asked to do is look at the rundown to know the amount of guests that we have and I love I. Love Our guests, but not all on one frigging day I mean standing. GotTa be laughing at. P. Knows he's heard this from me and I. Know it can come up from higher on that and Pressure on the producer, but my God I mean two sometimes three hosts and six guests. Yeah, remember. How can you have an opinion about everything? That's six. We had seven guests. I mean and so finally I just kind of threw my hands up in the air and say I know producers are in a tough position I. Don't understand why the higher ups think that can be good at times I really don't get it. Because, you want personality out of Your House yet. Your give them no room to show any personality. 'cause you bogged down with guests again. Who are great, but God spread them out a little more. So that is one thing I'm not. GonNa lie I am not gonNA. Miss Being bought an hour that the guests are I usually like especially like if I get stuck hosting solo for three hours. I'm like every every segment I I'd listen. To many monologues. Anybody that does a own I have never had to do that. Yeah, I have so much respect for the of how you can be able to do that and I would be with you. I would say okay. People to bounce some stuff. Talk about I got to other people on sat with made about shed I. It's hard to. Ask Yourself. Why do I need shelvin yesterday? Go along with. People on set, but as a Solo I completely agree right years. This guests, my my thing that I will never stand down on his I. Hate Callers. They're always like we need more callers and I'm like Oh! I. Don't like the listeners. It's that it's tougher to talk on the radio than people think and so even someone who's probably great chatting at the local sports bar, and probably does something great to say by the time they call in, and then they forget that they're not supposed to say. How are you and then like Kay? We're great. How are you like? What do you have? Have to say then whatever they say, and it's just it takes forever, and then the people listening at home, or like you could get to the point junior and you, too many of those together, and I almost always immediately changed the channel. If I'm listening to radio show, and they have callers I it's not my jam, and they're always like definitely have more callers like no. You a completely agree the battle over the years of call of them. Wanting us to take calls are given would be. We would give topic out..

"That was the only thing that'll take away. Any kind of sexual on that Is My White oiled me down with a paintbrush. There's nothing as unsexy as being oil down with a paintbrush, and then having your then however old. He was son Mike. Take the pictures I. Believe me. Believe me, it was it was nasty, but so that was one when some would say I feel. I can say hi to you because I feel like we're friends and the others I mentioned we work. We rarely crossed the line in any of the hosts that I had is when I would have mothers. Come up to me and say you know what I appreciate is when I was driving the kids to school I. Never had to worry about turning it down or changing the channel Real. Quick that you're going to say something that my kids shouldn't here, so those are some of the things that I really appreciate was a hot take guy no. No, was I guy? Oh, man, tune into this guy, because he is going to go off the rails on something. No I wasn't that guy I just wanted to have a conversation with people on their way to work. If I could give them a little information great if I could make him laugh a little bit on the way to work man that that to me was the kicker, so that was Kinda my goal in this whole thing. Yeah, I would love to be the person that mothers had to change the Channel Four, isn't it just doesn't allow it. There's there's only I'm not allowed to say almost all of the things in my head. Given time so I don't know if that's such a choice as just a requirement of the job, but. Maybe my next outlet. Back. Yeah, I, always say the after dark version of the show. Just be a whole different vibe. If somewhere else you know you, you mentioned and I saw. Some of the many responses from fans, and from guests and athletes and people that have been on the show and brought cured, said something that I think speaks to what you just said he said, thank you for showing so many of us what it looked and sounded like to have an opinion, but still be likeable and kind. That is such a great little summary of how you did your work and also compared to a lot of what gets. Buoy up as the strength of the industry were sort of the pinnacle of the industry is so nice for people who don't like listening to people scream at each other. I have opinions Some might argue that occasionally. Or you know, go a little bit a ether on, so people but it's always tough I very deeply believe and care about, and I've never been someone who understood being able to go on and talk about how Lebron should be ashamed of himself for I. As far as really explaining things in diving into that I'm not GonNa do I leave that. We're GONNA. or or from the people who made the decision, and how they want to present it to the public. Yeah, yeah, I mean. It is kind of crazy though to imagine finding out via the media that this that this run would end in end to your point of not believing, it's necessarily the right decision certainly feels like a lot of listeners and fans would agree to sort of outpouring of affection for you and how they're mornings won't be the same and it just. Just isn't gonNA. Feel right to be listening to ESPN radio if you're not there in the morning. What is that Ben liked to hear because it's again. You sort of went through with Mike and Mike, but everybody knew they were sticking around. This is very specifically then about you, and not about this show that they hadn't affection for. You're absolutely right. This is more about you know. The twenty two years being on and and getting to know people share that's been. humbling to say the least now, certainly hearing from peers, you know who have been nice enough to reach out about this is great because you know the people you work with to. You know you had that equal appreciation for one another, but hearing stories I mean some of the people saying my my daughter was born. You know while you're show was on I'm walking down the aisle next week. Now a lot of stories make me feel old. I mean to hear some guy say I started listening to when I was fourteen and I had a paper out, and then I listen to you on my way to to workouts for high school football. Now I listen to you on our force radios as I'm deployed unlike Oh my God I'm aunts whole that that's the stuff that really Kinda. Goes, wow you know. Forgetting sports fighting the talking sports is fun I. I do that Shit at the corner of Bar. You know having a beer and that's kind of what I wanted to do, but I wanted I always wanted to give the the thought process that I was talking with someone not at someone and again putting up and showing that I'm no better than everybody else I got kids who do dumb things you know. And I talked bottom on air me and my wife talked about our relationship on air. I'm just like all of you. I just happened to be able. Able to say it in a microphone in front of millions of people, you know each day so that to me has really been again. Don't have any problem coming up and saying hello to you because I feel like we're all friends. Yeah very very cool thing to here and the other is one thing I was never going to be. In morning radio where it can get that way sometimes, I was never going to be this blue guy. You know crossed a line that way. "You know if trae wasn't going to be part of it or didn't want to be part of it if that was his choice, then let's put someone else in there and keep going so that was my thought that was going to keep happening until unfortunately the tough time this time around is I basically heard it was ending through the media, which which you know to me isn't the best way to find something out I. Don't think that is the right way, but they didn't ask me. What was what I thought was the right way. You know it's business at the end of the day. It's business and I've always said this about football torn anything to be careful a taking things too personally at the end of the day. It's a business you know I it can. It can seem like you have a great relationship here or a great relationship there, but the end of the day if the bosses wanted to do something different, they're going to do something different. What they have every right to. You have been pretty vocal both times about how you found out and your disappointment. That's a choice right like you could always have those conversations behind the scenes with people and not let on, say Oh. Yeah, you know I was in the meetings for this. Why was it important for you to? People know kind of a little bit more of how things went down in both cases. I am I? Am always a I will say it to your face guy. I will say it to you on the in this case I guess on the phone or her. I won't go into detail I have. Sarah the amount of time I have been contacted by. The media to comment on this or that and I I I have text back to to a number of them. Saying listen I. Understand your job. What your job you know that you have a job to do, but I have never been a locker room talking guy so I said Sunday I will tell the full stories of everything, but now is not the time, but that didn't mean I still couldn't talk about the end and how it went. Did I like the way it ended? Ended you know Mike and Mike no I didn't now as I've always said a lot about that. If you want the full story, you know that Betcha go to the other people that were involved in any Mike and Mike because it wasn't my choice and Mike and Mike. I didn't I. Didn't like it I didn't like kind of the way it went went about, but again people have the right to try and do what they WANNA do. That doesn't mean I like the process Sabat. And in this case listen I told each coach when I was cut I think they were wrong and cutting the I have no problem saying that I think I think it was wrong. Not Having me do morning radio anymore I. Don't think that was the right move, but as far as any story behind it or why management did it. That's something they have to explain. Not me I'm not. GonNa do that I'm not going talk that much outside the locker room. Room as they say, but I'll say my piece as far as I think it was a wrong move I think I should still be doing radio. College Football Playoff Rankings: UCF jumps Ohio State, moves to No. 9 as top eight holds

"Lot of moving at least as far as college. Football's concern, you look at the latest rankings the first movement that we notice as UCF moving up a couple of spots to number nine, but the top eight all the same Mike Leach coach of number eight Washington state and earlier on ESPN radio was asked how much he discusses the rankings with his team. We don't talk about it, all, you know. I mean because of. Really had any impact on our season. I mean, everybody get ahead. Head kicked in. I forget the games we play. We played eleven games survey thought, we're going to get our grade or so and and we did. So then so if we listened to that stuff, then we wouldn't have worn the games we have. And so listen to it. Now, it's not gonna help us win there. You know? I mean, the best thing we can do is just just to have a great practice tomorrow. Is we're getting ready for Washington in Washington. Yeah. Washington's a great football team. And they're loaded up, and you know, they dumped people in the NFL every year. So we gotta go out there and play good Mike Leach coach of Washington state, which hold steady at number eight in the rankings, the four playoff teams are still the same Georgia, Oklahoma number five and six then there's that bunching of LSU Washington state and UCF at seven eight nine earlier on ESPN radio Jason Fitz and Mike Golic junior and dad, I'm a little surprised that Washington state didn't jump LSU for whatever that would mean again. But I was surprised at that LSU. I think they they played rights hammered rice. It was and Washington state put it at fifty five at halftime. I resort in Washington state has been looking really good. I thought they should've jumped up at least past LSU, and this one I think to that extent. Like, this is a little bit of the committee telling us that the larger body of work they've made up their mind. They have a good

"Really excited today to talk to one of my favorite people in sports media. He doesn't unbelievable job. It's hard to actually turn on ESPN radio and not hear it went one AM when it's eight AM on it's noon. I, I swear. There's some days there where he goes for like fourteen straight hours. It's really, really impressive. He's Mike Golic, junior had an outstanding career. Nerd aim was in the NFL for a while and guy. I got to know a little bit gosh along time ago. Now, at this point, Mike, what's up, man? How are you. I'm doing good Ross. I appreciate it. Man. It's been. It's been nice. Listen, the one thing I learned and know Frank Verduci a mutual friend of ours and former coach brought us together for one thing I learned from you. Basically, everyone else in footballers can do, and I'm sure that no matter what I'm doing a lot. So it's a lot harder for ESPN to fire me if they ever start to get wise to that start to think otherwise. Yes. So give me the breakdown. So are you still doing like the cold first and last still? Yup. So I got first and last four to six. AM the last month has been sort of weird because you know in radio, the summer is not really a big ratings bonanza. So they tell everyone take their time off, which means that I end up doing it a lot. So I get to fill in for dead and trae on golick a window when they're out. I've been filling in the Dan lebatardshow for us on ESPN which is ten AM to noon eastern to one eastern. And so I kinda just find myself in a lot of different spots over the last few weeks of the summer and. Try and make myself useful man opportunities. There are few and far between so you make sure they're, they're dot apart woman. I have a six AM radio show, so I got crazy respect for you having a four to six show, but are you not? Are you not on golick and wingo with your dad and trae every day anyway. Yeah. So I do two hours with them every day. I go that four to six for me. It's so radio there. So I got two hours by myself before they get started. And then I go over there with them for the first two hours of their show sort of bridge that morning gap, you know, dead and Traer both, you know, fifty five plus year old guys.

Roberto Osuna makes Houston Astros debut, tosses perfect eighth inning against San Francisco Giants

"ESPN, app Allegra, Pilion this morning for Mike Golic junior Kennedy talk a little bit about the New York Jets and their quarterback situation. Sam, darnold get a chance to show what he can do in a real game on Friday meanwhile the big, question hovering over New York Giants camp is the contract status of Odell Beckham junior his representation leaving giants camp yesterday without a deal getting. Done because impart the giants have pegged Beckham's market value at. A total annual average salary lower then she's wide receiver Sammy Watkins according to. Our Josephine Anderson here's the latest on Odell Beckham junior's contract situation from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter got a, situation here where both sides want to get. This done before the start of, the regular season both sides are motivated, to get it done and when the deal is done assuming that they can work it out I would imagine it would make him the highest paid wide receiver in the game because you could dress up a deal to look any way you want in really come down. To the structure the deal and the guarantee Right but the big thing for the giants and for Odell Beckham mystic get that deal done to give him that long term security these sought after that the fellow wide receivers from his draft already have gun Adam Schefter on the six. PM sports, center, last night. Talking. About the Odell Beckham junior contract situation and I've I've read some some reports that people believe this is trending in the right. Direction which is which, is all well and good but I'm I'm I'm sorry If I'm Odell Beckham junior's, agent and, the giants say well we're going. To give Odell, a salary That's a total annual average salary less. Than that of Sammy Watkins I'm not just leaving I'm laughing in their. Faces and, then I'm leaving Sammy Watkins is nice player got a contract. From the Kansas City Chiefs last year Sammy Watkins had seventy catches for five hundred ninety three yards he has one account a. One thousand yard season, twenty had a really good year and thirteen games just over one thousand yards, nine, touchdowns nice player but it's Sammy Watkins I think, the Kansas. City Chiefs, overpaid him. And and yet you know to to bring him into the, conversation with, Odell Beckham junior. Who is in the conversation among those. Being the best wide receiver in the NFL that is ludicrous ludicrous and I get it it's a. Negotiation and you gotta start from somewhere and okay so the giants. Up their asking price. I mean I I get, it it's gotta start. From somewhere and you know you're probably gonna low ball the guy I. Mean I, understand but if if our motel Beckham junior Afam Odell Beckham. JR junior's age I'm sitting down I'm trying to get a deal done what would be the highest paid wide receiver in the. NFL I'm watching this, wide receiver market explode And you mentioned the name Sammy Watkins it only better be because he's, among the names whose salaries will be dwarfed by what I'm about to get or what I'm about to get for my client owed l. Beckham junior and Sammy Watkins, are not in the, same stratosphere not, even is not even in the same. Conversation. If I'm talking about best wide receivers. In the, NFL, no-one's Mel yes. Sammy Watkins that's not even. A name you, pull out to sound really, really smart. And nothing, against him. Again nice player valuable player you know maybe helps out the, Kansas City, Chiefs this year. But I'm sorry Beckham junior's agent and. I'm looking at those numbers and the comp in other the comparable dollar amount is to Sammy Watkins We are laughing at the New York Giants First and. Last on ESPN radio and the ESPN app all is last night on what was happening with the Houston Astros who have Roberto Osuna who joined his teammates on Sunday and met with them in Los Angeles and had what by all accounts was a productive meeting with his new team-mates Roberto soon as the controversial pitcher whose obtained at. The trade deadline from the Toronto Blue Jays he made his Astros debut last night in San. Francisco in a game against the giants here thanks to our. Friends at KB EMMY not a seven ninety AM is audio of. Roberto, Osuna entering the game in San Francisco one nothing giants spot them of the eighth inning and Roberto Ceuta the new Astro making his Astros debut his first pitch to Alan Hansen pinch. Hitter is. A strike on the outside corner. All right there was a smattering of boos I guess you really couldn't. Hear, him that much in the background, ozone ah for his part on the. Mound did his job pitching a one-two-three inning First pitch. And that's.

NFL: New helmet rule causing confusion for Philadelphia Eagles

"Many people. Talking about it Sam darnold, a lot of people that. Was going to be the number one pick but, he's the guy not controversial guy if Baker mayfield's doing this people are losing their minds those debate shows people are screaming at each other But it's not. As Sam darnold who's doing something I think. Kind of foolish an immature get to, camp they have to, other quarterbacks get, to camp don't do things the compromiser, availability and you won't have to worry about the money being taken away first and, last on ESPN radio and the ESPN. App it's football at five, four Mike Golic junior Philadelphia. Eagles players are, confused and I'm probably with them They had a presentation put forth by NFL referees about the new. Helmet rules new rules players they say player getting penalized fifteen yards potentially find. Or ojected for lowering lowering his head to initiate it, make contact with his helmet against an opponent during. The presentation eagles players were showed a number of clips. Or of.
